My wife and I are just down for the night. I asked the front desk manager about good BBQ and he recommended this place. It is such a tiny place, (5 tables.) We ordered the baby back ribs slab. It was excellent, it was a dry rub, with sauce on the side. We got so many recommendations from people and from yelp, but we decided to try this. The service was attentive and courteous. We had fried okra, fried mushrooms and French fries and two soft drinks. If they had beer it would have gotten the extra star.

So glad I took a chance to stop in here and try the ribs.. I had a full order and they were AMAZING. I am a self proclaimed rib expert and in my opinion these were excellent slow cooked, fall off the bone tender ribs. The small old charm inside makes you feel like you are at home and the staff and owner were very nice. I would definitely recommend it and will be back!!

Fantastic baby back ribs! This is the place to go for BBQ in Chattanooga! Matt and Dana were great! Good food, good service, I will be back! Two thumbs up!

Delicious beef, same with the ribs, but you gotta try the pork cause it's even better

Avoid this place. Odd bbq menu and food is far from authentic bbq. Had the loaded potato with beef and nothing to write home about. Loaded with gross bbq sauce and not much else for flavor.

Regular, good ol' bbq. It's not a fancy place, but the food is homemade and real good. We had spare ribs, a loaded baked potato, baked beans, and fried okra. The bbq sauce is just right, not too thick, with the perfect level of sweetness. The baked potatoe had just the right ratio of meat and sauce to sour cream and cheese, and was a meal itself. The baked beans are the kind that make you feel like you're back in mama's kitchen, and the okra was lightly battered and fried to golden brown deliciousness. For dessert, we tried their homemade apple pie, and banana pudding. Thumbs up all the way. We will definitely be back when we're back in town!

Service was awesome!!!! Food was freaking delicious. Stopped in after a trip to Atlanta. Dining room is a bit small but being from a small town with small restaurants it seemed pretty homey.

Great little stop just off I-75. Very friendly service, tasty sauce. Had the chicken bbq sandwich and a side of slaw.

Absolutely delicious. Good old fashioned BBQ with some down south service. Don't count on it being fast, but do count on it being delicious. Reasonable prices and very kind and helpful staff. Can't wait to go back!

Seemed a little shabby for the high reviews people have given, but Hickory Pit BBQ is delightfully friendly, charmingly small-town, and refreshingly original. I began with Dynobites: deep fried broccoli and cheese bites. I can safely say I'd never seen deep fried broccoli before, but they were quite tasty. Well worth it to split for the table. For my main course I enjoyed the chopped pork plate with fried okra and baked beans. The pork was tender, with good flavor and a dry rub, and smothered in the house bbq sauce. Fried okra was lightly breaded and fresh, and the beans were lightly sweet with brown sugar. Everything was excellent. I would definitely come back if I were in Chattanooga again.

Great chopped pork and beef, both very tender and flavorful. High note side was the coleslaw, vinegar based slightly sweet, complimented the pork wonderfully. The "chop chop chop" sound of the cleaver was music to my ears. STOP what you are doing , and go here TODAY!!!! Very friendly, welcoming and outgoing staff. Very clean sitting area and spotless bathrooms.

Saw the reviews and stopped in. I had Brunswick Stew Sm chopped chicken plate w green beans and coleslaw. All good. Nice hickory smoke and tender juicy breast meat. The coleslaw was exceptional. Not sweet. Not mayo based. Green beans were flavorful. Tasted the chopped pork and fried okra from my dads plate. All good for a good price in a cute little place.

We stopped here on the road to Orlando. Good sized portions and great taste. We'll probably stop here again when we're back in Chattanooga. Two thumps up!

Great little old-school BBQ joint located right off both i-24 and i-75 on us-41 aka "dixie highway." Place is very cozy with just a handful of tables indoors and another handful out. The owner and staff were super friendly. Plates are classic from the chopped pork to the slaw and potato salad. Prices are quite reasonable too. Lot's of regulars appeared to be stopping in. There's a drive-thru too if it gets too crowded.

If you like a good BBQ, a small town atmosphere and friendly service than you'll find it here at Hickory Pit. Don't bother trying to find somewhere else, I highly recommend this smokehouse joint.

The Hickory Pit Bar-B-Que was recommended by a friend. We ordered two barbeque sandwiches and an order of onion rings and found them very tasty. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We will return when the urge for BBQ returns.

My husband and I visited for lunch today after hearing the news that Hickory Pit was ranked #5 in the nations best BBQ joints. We were not disappointed at all! The building is a traditional, unassuming BBQ shack with about 5 inside tables for dining in. The service was fantastic and it was cozy. I felt like I was dining at a relatives home. It's an atmosphere much appreciated by this southern gal. The BBQ was indeed amazing and we will definitely return. Easily the best in town with "fall off the bone" ribs and seriously smokey pit flavor. The BBQ baked potato was out of this world and the fried okra is the best I have ever had locally. Great experience and awesome food. I can't wait to return for more. I have heard the Brunswick stew is quite amazing!

Spectacular BBQ joint right off the freeway. Was passing through the area looking for a true BBQ place to have lunch. Was so lucky to find this place! Had the pork plate with beans and tots, amazing! Would recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious BBQ!

Another fine barbecue meal at Hickory Pit. Consistently excellent ribs and BBQ pork, with sides showing exceptional care.

Great little place. Super friendly staff. Food was good, hot and fast. Prices very reasonable. Worth the mile drive off the highway!

Stopped here for lunch on our drive back to Nashville. Both the pork and beef bbq were excellent. I had coleslaw and tots for my sides, and my husband had fries and baked beans. Texas toast was also included. Everything was cooked just right and was fresh, even though we arrived around 2 pm. Friendly staff, quick service, great food. Definitely worth the stop if you're in town or passing through--just about 1.5 miles from I-75.

Awesome place with an awesome staff. This is one of the better bbq places I've been to and it definitely had the best price-to-deliciousness ratio I've ever experienced at a restaurant. I was surprised there wasn't more people eating inside, because the owners (and their son) are incredibly friendly and fun to talk to. It's a shame we were just passing through, because I would definitely make this a regular lunch spot. I had the pork sandwich combo, which was delicious, but my friends all loved their food, too; I don't think you can go wrong ordering anything from this joint.

We have lived in Chattanooga for 8 years. I wish we found this place sooner! It is the best BBQ in town!

Stopped for dinner. Very cheerful, pleasant staff, clean cute and convenient to I-75 but hardly a serious barbeque place. My ribs, though "rubbed" as I like them, were drenched in a sauce totally devoid of character, robbing them of all the crunchy goodness on the outside. The chopped pork sandwich my wife had was overflowing with meat and the pork was closer to being pulled than chopped--a good thing. Overall, considering prices were quite reasonable, service excellent and food acceptable if not remarkable, this place was a good value.

After all the reviews...we thiought we HAD to try. Very dissapointing. Ribs were tough, and it took 45 minutes to be served. In all fairness, the staff was very friendly, and the catfish was good. One word of caution....the Lindsey steak....is NOT steak, it is hamburger patty.

This place is small but has BIG flavor! I like trying new places and found this family owned dive. I have stumbled on a gem. I'm afraid I will not try any other bbq after this. Pork plate, beans and stuffed killer potatoes are the most succulent things around!

Seriously the best bbq in Chattanooga. #5 in the nation and it should be #1! The ribs are to die for, please go here if ur in Chattanooga!

Food was great. The place is small but sandwich was huge! My beef tasted great and Brunswick stew was good too! The coleslaw on sandwich went very well with beef not too sloppy but sloppy good!

The ambience is very "bbq pit" the servers are super nice and helpful. But the bbq isn't special. I really wanted it to be good but it was just barely average. The ribs were well Cooked but lacked any character and soul. They tasted like salt and smoke with a little dash of sweet. But no bark or bite or even savory sweet profiles. The chopped pork was also just cooked plain pork. The sauce wasn't special it tastes out of the jar. It's not bad but it's just lacking any depth and love. No passion in the food. The kids grilled cheese and the tator tots were staples and cooked great. Slaw is a minced slaw and it's good. Liked the potato salad as well even with a heavy mayonnaise base.

Well... Yelp let us down on this one. We were on vacation in Georgia and wanted some BBQ. Of course we asked Yelp for its recommendation and we got Hickory Pit Bar-B-Que. So we made the trip to Tennessee. We should've gone somewhere else. The joint is small with limited seating. The service was just fine. We ordered the BBQ baked potato, pork sandwich and chopped beef plate. The potato was bland and the toppings were an amalgamation of uber-sweet BBQ sauce, bland pork, and chives. The pork sandwich was bland. The meat tasted like it had been reheated. The chopped beef would have been decent, but it was flooded with that super sweet sauce, drowning out any flavor the meat could've had. In the end, BBQ is a very hard thing to do well. We have only found 2 places that serve good 'Q. This is not one of them.

This BBQ place has figured it out. I ordered the killer potato plate, with baked beans and potato salad. The pork was cooked and sauced perfectly. The beans were very good. The potato salad was ok. The killer feature was definitely the BBQ pork. It was pulled and defiantly had a nice crust going on. You could see evidence of a good smoke ring. The potato itself was alright, I felt it could have used a little help, I'm not sure how. I also tried the Chicken salad sandwich which was amazing. It's definitely different than any other you've ever had. On grilled bread. I loved it.

Excellent service. Friendly & wonderful staff. Feels like you're in a family dining room! We stopped on our way from Indiana to Georgia and shared a table with two sweet older women. It was so much fun! The Dinobites were delicious and my husband really liked the Chopped Pork Plate.

Some of the best BBQ in town! And my favorite cheeseburger anywhere. Staff is always friendly and the guy that owns it is a nut.

At one time, this BBQ was the best around, now not so much. A small, popular, family run BBQ place that may be a victim of its own popularity. It happens sometimes. Business takes off and then begins to fall short. The Hickory Pit BBQ now offers average BBQ at best and the sides are nothing special. Table cloths in the dining room are old, torn vinyl which are sticky. The waitress seemed distracted as we had to repeat our order a couple of times and they are slow on drink refills.

This place is amazing!! The ribs were amazing! The pulled pork was incredible! We felt like family on our first visit, the owner even even gave us tips for attending the Bristol Night Race.

Some of the best bbq I've ever had! Everything was a good price and tasted great. Came down from Wisconsin on a road trip and couldn't have met any nicer people! Great food and Great service!!

Had the barbecue pork sandwich and tater tots. It was delicious. The pork has the right amount of smoke mixed with the right amount of sweet tangy sauce. Probably the best pork sandwich I've had. This would pair well with a red Zinfandel but alas there was no wine so I settled for sweetea which was a winning combination.

We were driving south through TN and found this little gem. There is nothing at all fancy about this place... just great food and wonderful service. We ordered a chicken chopped bbq sandwich, a pork chopped bbq sandwich, cheese sticks, a side of fries, and some drinks. Everything was delicious, and the service was great (attentive but not intrusive) The dishes come with no garnish or anything else that you did not order. By the time we were done eating, all of our plates were completely empty. The owners are the chef and waitress, and their attention to your satisfaction shows. We will need to plan another trip to Chattanooga just so we can eat here again.

Good overall barbecue joint, well worth the drive over. I had the loaded baked potato which could have been bigger for price but still great tasting. Also the beans and tatter tots are great. Stool great eats for the price, plus friendly staff and good atmosphere

Great BBQ at fair prices. The ribs were amazing and the slaw was some of the best I've had. Do yourself a favor and try this place out!!

Great Service and Fantastic Food. We (husband, wife, and 3 young boys) ordered chopped pork plate, chopped chicken plate, and a slab if baby back ribs. All items were delicious along with the sides!

Came to The Hickory Pit after reading the reviews posted on Yelp and have to say it lived up to everything has said. I ordered the Brunswick Stew, not knowing what it was. It came out hot and bursting with flavor. The young man, who was super nice and very attentive to every table in the restaurant, offered up Texas Toast or crackers with it. I also ordered the Killer Potato with pulled pork, folks, that pork was almost a religious experience for this Texas boy. Quite possibly the best I have ever had(other than mine, of course). I've never been a huge fan of BBQ sauce, but the sauce they put over the tater was pretty amazing. I will definitely be coming back to The Hickory Pit when I come back to Chattanooga. Also, 2 of the 3 other families that were in the restaurant had driven up from Atlanta to partake in some of this glorious grub. That says a lot for the wuality

Found this place based on Yelpers while I was visiting Chickamauga National Military Park a few weekends ago. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich and some tater tots and savored every bite of it! I'd definitely stop by again if in the area. It's just a mile or two west of the interstate.

What a find - looking for excellent BBQ in Chattanooga and we found it. Big portions and slap your Momma good ribs. Southern Sweet Tea made right and hearty chili made to warm you up in no time at all. Banana pudding had real banana chunks and Nilla cookies as one would expect in any quality Southern establishment. This is real BBQ not the bland chain fare and the hosts are friendly, entertaining and full of witty banter - don't pass up an opportunity to eat here.
