Kyle was our server. Service was amazing and food was even better. Living near Atlanta we eat in five star restaurants frequently. This place is five stars no doubt. The fried okra and pimento cheese are fabulous. Kale salad and grilled shrimp with Atmosphere is great! A must visit place!

Made a mother's day reservation for 12:45, but being a popular place, 1885 was absolutely slammed. The walk-up waiting list was a mile long and the reservation list, which allegedly had priority over walk-ins, was a mess. The hostess was frazzled and our large party of 3 mothers, 5 hungry kids, and 2 hungry men were immediately skeptical of sitting down anywhere close to our reservation time. The people standing next to us looked frustrated and after a brief chat, discovered that like us, they also had a reservation time - which by now was 45 minutes late. My wife grabbed the manager and asked if there was a realistic chance we would sit down within 30 minutes of our reservation time - his response was maybe. Strangely enough, I found an uncrowded place next door and our party of 10 headed out the door - and my wife told the owner to just forget it. At this point, 1885 had zero stars. However, the owner apologized and handed my wife a healthy gift card for our troubles and politely, professionally, and apologetically asked us to return. This was a great touch to a very frustrating situation - and we'll certainly give it another try. We've eaten here before - they do have great food. Today, being mother's day, was an anomaly I'm sure. We'll definitely be back....

I've never had anything bad here. Great atmosphere, service is impeccable and the food is excellent! I usually have a 1 item favorite at restaurants I frequent, however, there are so many "favorites" on their menu I have difficulty ordering sometimes. The collards and mac n' cheese are delicious! Fried green tomatoes are the best in town!

I've eaten at 1885 a number of times now and I have never had a bad meal. Service is always friendly and enthusiastic. Staff always knows how the food is prepared, which is good, because it often doesn't happen that way and there's little I hate worse than asking about preparation and having the server say 'Uh, I'm not sure.' Between my husband, my son, and myself, we have had the following amazing dishes: Appetizer: Fried green tomatoes with house made buttermilk dressing, house made chow-chow, and house made pimento cheese. Astounding combination of flavors. I could make a meal out of this alone. Sandwiches: Burgers are great (especially when you can add that amazing pimento cheese) but I love the Country Cuban. This is a riff on the Cubano, using country ham instead of roasted pork. Full of flavor! Entrees: Shrimp & grits, Shrimp Etoufee, Picket's trout (get it grilled, this is local and super delicate. Magnificent eating), Pork Chop glazed with apples. All amazing. If you're in the mood for steak, the ribeye is delicious and always perfectly cooked. The Steak Frites is divine: marinated flatiron steak cooked no more than medium rare and served with shoestring fries dusted with fresh rosemary and sea salt and garlic aioli. And if you have a choice between a baked potato and the Mac & cheese, go for the latter. Nothing at all wrong with the baker, but the M&C is just that spectacular. Desserts: I'm always too full for dessert, but I did have an astonishing chocolate thingamy on my birthday last year, compliments of the house. You cannot go wrong here. The waits can be long, especially for outside, but the bartenders are friendly and the drinks are good.

Talk about service! We were so well taken care of. One of our food orders was slightly over cooked and even though my friend insisted it was good, they made her another and brought it to the table, free of charge. The cocktails are off the chain!! And by that, I mean they were really friggin' good. I got the Pimm's Cup and it was 10x better than any Long Island I have ever had. I was very pleased. I highly recommend this place to anyone. Only drawback was the beige walls. If management reads this, I would just suggest that color is awesome!! We took a photo of us at the table and it looked like we were at a showing of a model home in a subdivision instead of a hip, delicious, lovely restaurant ;)

What a great find. Thank you yelpers. A group of the 4 of us came in for lunch after our morning at Rock City The manager was friendly, wait staff super attentive and the food was amazing. Who knew two Latins had to come to Chattanooga for scrumptious empanadas and a Cuban sandwich. We also highly recommend trying the 1885 burger and the scallops! Would definitely go back again

On my Top-5 for Nooga for sure. I've only been once but they absolutely hit it out of the park for everyone at my table. Highly recommend: The Salmon, the mac-n-cheese (trust me), anything steak! The Okra & Pimento cheese appetizer is amazing! The food, oh the food! Everyone at our table ordered something different and everyone's entrees were excellent! Highly recommend everything about this place!

Food is delicious. Nice atmosphere. Go when they have their Bloody Mary Bar open! Great patio for a Saturday late lunch.

I went there with my family when we took a trip to Tennessee. I ordered the flounder and had the macaroni and cheese. They came with hush puppies. The fish was cooked to perfection. Never had hush puppies so good. My son had the wings that were excellent. My daughter had the crawfish and shrimp ettoufee. She said it was very good. My husband had the flounder like me. Said it was very very good. He had seared scallops that were excellent. The crust on the flounder was excellent. Best fried green tomatoes ever!

Best restaurant we've found in Chattanooga. We stumbled upon this place after riding the Incline Railway and we will be back every time we're in town now. Great brunch, food, specialty drinks and service. Highly recommended.

Was here about 8 months ago, average but decided to give it a second chance. A Sat night at 6PM, the hostess area an absolute zoo, 2-3 employees but not one hand knew what the other was doing. Finally after about 20 minutes and no idea as to how long a wait (hostess had no idea) we decided to sit at the bar. The bar service actually good but the kitchen, very, very slow and the noise level in the restaurant, well on a scale of 1-10 a 10, could not hear the person next to you. Just horrendous noise. I had the Empanadas, they were nothing to write home about and also the Shrimp and Crawfish Etouffee, it was good but not great. Spouse's spinach salad had wilted spinach. The mess in the waiting area, the hostess not knowing anything and the noise level coupled with average food, well, they will not get a third chance from us. The hassle just ruined any possible good dining experience. As such, would not return

I met a friend on a Tuesday evening (early) and we had not problem snagging a nice table on the patio. Lots of improvement in the decor and style over what was previously Blacksmith's. We were hungry and ordered the hummus appeatizer to share while perusing the menu. The hummus was fresh and made in-house. Delicious. The garnishes were skimpy. There were 3 slices of cucumber and a miniscule bit of slivers of roasted red pepper and grilled corn. A decent serving of grilled pita saved the day. After enjoying our appetizer, our server asked if we were ready to order our dinner. I asked if there were any specials of the evening. There were, but we would not have known it unless we asked. She had a hard time describing the specials. Not real polished or knowledgeable. My companion chose a special (shrimp & crawfish with rice) and was happy she did. I chose to nosh and ordered the fried empanadas (with beef) and the scallop appetizer. Happy with the presentation, preparation and flavors of both. Once finished, the server asked if we were "all set". "Do you have desserts???". Yes, they do. Only 3 were offered. A NY style cheesecake, a peanut butter-chocolate confection, and a key lime cheesecake. Again, the server stumbled over describing the desserts. Not too much to choose from. We shared the peanut butter-chocolate dessert and it was wonderful. A dense, crunchy chocolate crust topped with a smooth, almost "mousse-like" peanut butter layer and drizzled with a caramel sauce. It would have been too much for me alone, glad my friend was happy to share with me. The wine list was small, but enough variety. A bottle of malbec hit the spot with us. As we were leaving, a musician was setting up on the patio. Wish we could have lingered! Another time! Summary: Service was friendly and we were well attended, but our server was not particularly knowledgeable about the food. We had ask a lot of questions. I think this is a simple management issue and a bit more training needs to happen. The food was fresh, prepared well, and presented nicely. No "wow" factor, but that's okay. I like consistency and quality. I won't know about the consistency until I visit a few more times (and I definately will go back) and then I will update. 1885 is a nice addition to the Chattanooga restaurant scene.

Average minus. Great atmosphere and that's where it ends. Server failed to inform us about specials. Shrimp and grits had no Tasso, not even bacon to fake it. Flounder was so salty that it was inedible. Would not go back

  • Martin K.

First time going, we were told it would be a 20 minute wait, turned into over an hour because the servers wouldn't let the hostess do her job. While we were waiting the servers were taking the food and drinks out the front door because the roll up door was closed. One server dropped a tray full of drinks and glass was everywhere. One lady had her feet covered in drinks and glass and the manager Miguel the manager did not even apologize to her or any of us who were sitting there with us. They need to seriously think about having regular doors installed where the roll up door is so the people waiting do not have to dodge them when bringing food out. Once we were seated we informed our server about our wait time and our appetizers and meal came pretty quickly. The food was amazing but that would be about it for our experience. I suggest a reservation to anyone.

Great southern food. Shrimp n grits. Hush puppies. Collard greens. Mac n cheese. Blueberry mojito! All very good! Empanadas were great too!

Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. I've between looking forward to this place for a while since I love Tremont (which I think had the same owner). The most noticeable thing for me was the service. We didn't have anything crazy but everything was very slow coming out (ie. over thirty minutes to get food). The food was very fresh, but I don't think it had a lot of flavor. If friends want to go back, I'd join them. However, there are plenty of other great restaurants in this price range that I'd prefer.

Food is excellent, service is friendly and fast, prices are reasonable, décor is great; hence 5 stars!

  • Mark R.

Excellent! The staff was very attentive and eager to please. I had the shrimp and grits, the shrimp were cooked perfectly and the dish was very flavorful. My wife had the BBQ Chicken, it is prepared with dark meat and was very tender and tasty. We shared a cheesecake, it seemed to be a New York Style Cheesecake. It is probably one of the best cheesecakes I've ever had, and believe me I've tried a lot of them. We were both extremely pleased with our meal and our experience.

This was our first visit and we were excited to try it... the line has been out the door since it opened so we waited for a Wednesday night... still, almost every table was filled. I really wanted to give this place a higher rating but mostly, I want to be honest. The point to this review is I will go back and give it another try, and hope to give more stars next time. I give the service a B to B-... The server (who I don't believe said his name) had to be reminded about waters and silverware, after the hostess took too many away from the table that was set for 6. He was sweaty (not appetizing) and looked like he needed some down time. I give the food a solid B... I started with a specialty cocktail, a Lookout, and it was very good. We ordered the Pimento Cheese and Okra appetizer. The okra was by far the star of that show, not to say the pimento cheese was bad, b/c it wasn't... the okra just stood out. They sent only 4 pita wedges with the pimento cheese which was definitely not enough, but the server did bring more (unprompted). A member of our group ordered the Crab Cake Appetizer as their entree... it was much too small for that... lesson learned, but it was tasty. The Crab Cake Sandwich was pretty good and the Mac & Cheese side was good but a little dry. The Burger tasted like one of the best backyard grill-cooked burgers you would ever want to have... definitely want to come back for that. The biggest disappointment was the Shrimp and Grits. It was absolutely nothing special and don't think I would ever order it again. The grits had NO flavor on their own... coupled with small-ish, slightly undercooked (in my opinion) shrimp with NO flavor, everything was left to be brought up by this sauce that tasted and looked like butter, chicken stock, flour and salt. The highlight on the plate were the fried capers. A big let down... I want to end this on a good note so I will commend them on how reasonably priced everything was... a definite plus.

Fried okra and pimento cheese appetizer was great!! My wife loved her spinach salad. The crab cake was very good and the house made potato chips were very, very good. We'll be back

1885 burger was pretty spot on. I love that they had an option for Gouda cheese. The fried green tomatoes were amazing! The pimento cheese that came with it was out of this world! However, I should warn you that their Cuban sandwich is a rendition of a Cuban sandwich. Being from South Florida we know what a real Cuban is like. This was not a Cuban, but still tasty. Also, we were traveling with a dog and they were very pet friendly and allowed us to sit in their patio area with him. They even brought him a bowl of water and let us order from the kids menu for his chicken and green beans.

Hands-down one of my favorite places to eat in Chattanooga! Great appetizers and meals. Food is always fresh and they never disappoint. They use local ingredients and beef! Nestled at the foot of the mountain and the Incline, it's a very nice place to enjoy dinner. An ice cream shop across the street and not to mention the incline as well. I recommend the pimento spread appetizer and ribeye steak.

Dinner with one of my closest girls. She had eaten here several times, but it was my first. The menu is fantastic! So many choices, even for this vegetarian (95%)/pescatarian(5‰). We chose the fried green tomatoes, with pimento cheese, as our appetizer. The best I've ever tasted in a restaurant!! The tomatoes were cooked well, and the coating was super crispy. The pimento cheese was mild, and delicious. We easily could have made a meal of this scrumptious dish... If we each had our own order. Alas, we split it between the two of us. I chose the shrimp and grits as my entree. My friend made her own meal, choosing a salad (with grilled chicken), a crab cake, and cheesy grits. The grits were very tasty, but a little lumpy, on my plate. Her side dish appeared smoother. The sauce/gravy with my shrimp and grits was almost excellent. I would have preferred a little spice. The shrimp was tasty, but overcooked. The one disappointment. My friend loved her salad and grilled chicken. We both agreed the crab cake, and sauce, was delicious. The atmosphere and the staff are excellent. Some of the best service I've had in local restaurants. I will definitely go back for another meal.

This place deserves a sixth star! If you want wonderful food, a unique experience and you admire innovation, 1885 is a must-eat-at destination. Definitely at the top of my favorite restaurants list and I have eaten at great places all over. The staff was extremely busy but made sure they were attentive, friendly and professional. The bbq chicken with Carolina Gold bbq sauce was literally finger-licking good; I'm not dark meat fan but it was charred perfectly and I think you could put the sauce on a shoe and it would be delicious. The macncheese was great--usually I am not impressed with restaurant macncheese, but 1885's was sharp, baked perfectly and delicious. The greens were also some of the best I've eaten and I am extremely tough on collards. They were cooked perfectly with a bit of tang and a great meaty broth. I wish this restaurant was in Memphis so I could enjoy it at my leisure; however, I will definitely return and I vow to enthusiastically spread the word on this fantastic restaurant.

We stopped by 1885 for lunch on the way to check in to our bed and breakfast and the food and service was so excellent that we went back for dinner. The crab cakes were so delicious and I highly recommend the blackened NC trout. The Citrus Seasonal Sangria is so refreshing on a hot summer day you have to try it!

On our return to 1885 the food was good but the service was bad. It was at least 10 minutes after being seated that anyone acknowledged us. Our waiter finally appeared smelling like he had been out smoking. He never offered us refills on our drinks and also did not seem very interested on waiting on us. My husband had the flounder sandwich and he said it was nothing exceptional. He said he will probably not go back. I would but one thing that is needed is to bump up the customer service. So different than my first. The first waitress was great.

For about two months I have been worried . I hadn't been eating or even wanting to eat, I thought I was going through depression. Until BAAMMM , shrimp and crawfish étouffée . This restaurant food has me at a hold off with the folk and my mouth. I could not stop eating. The good made me immediately just want food . It's flavor is distinct and the service was amazing. I drunk a dirty Elmo, the strongest drink they have of course. And it was like cherries in my month. If you are ever in this area take the time to stop and have anything from this tasteful place . Never have I given any restaurant five stars but this one deserve all the stars . ;)

Ooh, ooh, ooh! Now I know there is some great fine(er) dining in Chattanooga, beyond Alleia. No, Hennan's doesn't count because, well, y'all who consider it a fine steak house haven't been to a real one. Anyhoo, three numbers: 1885, 1976, 2015. The restaurant name, the year my co-diner and I were born, and the time we enjoyed a lovely repast. Three good numbers. Somehow relevant here. He wanted good food; I'd bookmarked the place so I jumped at his suggestion - and I recommend any of you who've not been should go as well. Highlights: Interesting (in a good) way semi-upscale décor. Somehow, the craft paper over the tables doesn't seem kitschy. Nice feel over all. Our server, Abby, was great - attentive, friendly, and dealing with us as diners just after 9p when they close at 10p (bar open til 11p) when I imagine she was ready to close already - enough! Never got that vibe which says a lot to folks like us who work in restaurants, too. The food was great. The scallop app was absolutely delicious - two scallops so, really, each of us could have gotten our own - delicious orange liquor. Love, and would definitely get again. My friend got the etouffe, which he'd had before, and enjoyed - note that this dish has a good bit of kick so keep that in mind if you have a milder palate. I got the steak frites, something I love to order when it's on a menu, and it was a great choice - very generous, perfectly (at med rare, just under) cooked skirt steak. The fries rock- thin, crispy, just enough rosemary. Yeah, I let him have a few. This is a great place to go for a date, a good place for a group (and Abby was nice and observant enough to let us know a party of 12 was about to order, and asked if we could decide so ours would be ahead of theirs - the kind of thing that can make a HUGE difference in how long it takes your food to arrive) and a perfect place to take parents or other visiting relatives. Very pleased, and look forward to returning.

Crab Cakes were the best I've had, and the Rosemary fries were nice!! Shrimp and Grits were savory and tasty. Wait staff was excellent, too. Nitrogen infused cold coffee was interesting and worth trying.

  • Natalie C.

The wings were to die for. The house salad with Lemon Rosemary Vinaigrette was delicious. We ordered the Pimento Cheese and Fried Okra to start with, the pimento cheese was very creamy and the fried okra was delicious, and that's coming from a southern ;). Their house made drinks is where it's at though. Make sure to get one of those they have so many good ones to choose from. The service and atmosphere was wonderful. We will absolutely return when visiting again. They have another restaurant that they just opened called The Feed Store.

  • Patte E.

Did not live up to the hype! The Pimento Cheese and Okra appetizer was delicious. However, the Shrimp and Grits was nearly unedible. The shrimp was muddy and well past cooked. The grits we're good, but without the shrimp it was not a meal worth bragging about. The waitstaff we're very nice, but brought a salad to the table 3 times because they kept putting croutons on it for someone who made it very clear they had a gluten intolerance right from the moment we were seated. All in all not the meal I had driven an hour to have.

  • Leandro C.

The food tasted great. I had the empanadas for appt. and the steak frites as my entree. The server forgot a side dish for someone on the table even after being reminded, but besides that she was great. The Rosemary fries are awesome. Must try: The Mac and Cheese, Empanadas.

We stopped in for lunch after a (disappointing) day at Rock City. None of us were able to decide on what we wanted, but 1885 looked like it could satisfy us all - and did it ever! I'm a fan of burgers, and the burger I had, topped with Pimento Cheese and Bacon was to die for. The rest of the table was more than happy with their choices as well. Prices were fair, the service was good and we'd definitely return.

Great food BUT Father's Day brunch is a bust!! Can call ahead but does no good! Still waited over an hour and was talked down to by the staff when asked. Sad, again great food but needs to get front hosting and seating done better!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Stopping in Chattanooga as a half way point while returning home from vacation had a very pleasant surprise. The 1885 Grill. With its instantly cool vibe and super nice staff, we knew we had made the correct dining choice. I opted for the Filet with blu cheese butter accompanied by Mac & Cheese. I ordered my steak medium rare and that's exactly what I got. The most tender steak with a nice warm pink center. I could literally cut it with my fork. The meat melted in my mouth. The Mac & Cheese was perfectly creamy, noodles just right, and the expertly browned top was my favorite part. As for my wonderful boyfriend, he chose the 1885 burger with gouda and bacon. The burger was ordered medium and was the juiciest (not greasy) burger he has ever had. The wonderful mix of bacon and gouda was pure happiness. As for the homemade chips, those were good too. Although maybe something to dip them in (BBQ sauce perhaps?) would have kicked them up a notch or two to make them more memorable. Overall our experience was absolutely delightful! We will be returning to Chattanooga to enjoy this culinary wonder again!

I've dined here four times now. Once was the best meal I've had in Chattanooga. Hands down. Two other times were good. On my most recent trip I left very disappointed as they'd changed the recipe on the specialty drink that kept me coming back in the first place and turned it in to something truly horrid and the food and service were just completely underwhelming. I think that if they can find some sort of consistency they'll be amazing but they're not there yet.

My husband and daughter and I ate out 1885 Grill in the spring, before I started a blog with restaurant reviews. So, my photos were taken with my phone, taken reflexively as a food blogger, because when something tastes good, I take a photo of it. And let me stress, everything we had was good. Better than good, it was fantastic! We had gone to St. Elmo so that I could preview it for a photo shoot that I had coming up for my photography business, Pamela Greer Photography. As usual my daughter and I were hungry. We are always hungry. We are especially driven by the clock. We could have had breakfast at 10:30, but we are still ready for lunch at 12:00! We decided to try 1885 Grill. We had eaten there when it was Blacksmith's, but hadn't eaten there since it transitioned to 1885 Grill. Since it was a beautiful afternoon, we opted to eat out on the patio. The outdoor section manages to feel cozy and yet you have a view of a pretty busy street. Lots to look at. We found a table that was shaded under a tree. Our waiter came by almost immediately, took our drink order and commented on my camera, very friendly. (And yes, I had my big camera with me because I took some test shots for the photo shoot, but didn't use it for the food!). We oohed and ah'd over the menu. It also sounded good. I wavered between the shrimp and grits and Steve Pickett's trout and settled on the trout. My husband also got the trout and my daughter got the steak frites. What I really loved was the ability to choose my sides with my trout! Mr. Grey chose a loaded baked potato and I chose mac and cheese. The trout was insanely good, cooked perfectly, with just a hint of lemon. Nothing to mask that wonderful trout flavor. My mac and cheese was also amazing. Rich and creamy with a nice crunchy top. My daughter's Steak Frites were also fantastic! The steak was tender and cooked perfectly and the fries, thin and crispy, seasoned beautifully with rosemary. We loved everything, ate bits from each other's plates, and vowed that we would be back!

Holy crap! I don't think I could say anything bad about this. The wings. Let's start there. Get them. Don't think about anything else. I got the burger, and it was perfect with slaw. Not too heavy. Not too light. The waiter was so friendly. Parking was super easy to find. The atmosphere was great and prices were really affordable.

Had the crab cake sandwich, husband had the Cuban. Both were delicious and service was great. Only critique would be that the house made potato chips had more seasoning (didn't appear/taste to have any), and that more Rosemary be used in the fries (there was just a hint of taste).

Amazing service. The staff works so hard to make sure you are well taken care of. The food is simple and amazing. The fried green tomatoes are the best I've had in sooooo long. The burger was perfect and the okra was fresh and yummy. I highly recommend it!

I'm a foodie and not easily impressed. I'm passing through town and decided to try this place. The blackened trout was recommended and it's awesome. I also had the grilled corn and it was fabulous.

Great last minute choice for us. It's at the bottom of the incline railway with outdoor patio and indoor rustic decor. As for the food, the grits cake and the shrimp and grits were awesome! Perfect blend of creamy goodness. The rainbow trout was fresh, seasoned well and a great tribute to southern style cooking. However, the BBQ chicken made the night. Fantastic spices and sauce that made my mouth water for more. I will return.

The staff was nice enough and the place was cool looking. Loved the little town. My boyfriend had the salmon and really liked it. I had the pork chop and it was good. I don't recommend the shoe string fries because they get cold within seconds.

Fantastic little find. Visited Chattanooga for a few days over Spring Break with my family. We always try to avoid chain restaurants during our travels, and this restaurant is the perfect reason why. From a great atmosphere (sat on the sunny patio each time we visited - perfect views of the Incline Railway and a very quaint little area) to excellent food (at very reasonable prices; oh, and they even carry gluten free beer!), we loved this little gem. If only it was in Atlanta! This place also made us break our rule of only eating at the same restaurant once while vacationing (so as to push us to explore other options). It was that good. Great service from Jacob both times. Ask for him!

One of the best local restaurants in town. Great food. Great ambiance. Often have live and local music outside on the patio. Friendly to kids, great for just an after work meal with friends, also great for a date. I enjoyed my crab cake sandwich. Full of flavor. Cooked the right way so that it was loose enough but not falling apart. Topped with the spicy remoulade aatmd lettuce and placed on Neidlov's bun. It was paired with homemade potato chips, which were perfectly salted in case you were wondering. I'll definitely be back to try out the 1885 burger that my mom and sister both enjoyed. Don't forget to ask for Liz! She's a great server.

1885 is one of our favorite places in Chattanooga! Whether we are eating "light" or are wanting comfort food, 1885 has it all. They even transform ordinary things like green beans into one of my favorite dishes that they serve. Our favorite time to go is when the weather is warm and they have live music on the patio!

1885 is not to be missed! You have to try the shrimp and grits and the pimento cheese. Best trout in town hands down!

All I have to say is Fried Okra and Pimento Cheese appetizer! Went here with my dad and it was a great atmosphere. Live music outside on the patio and the staff was fantastic. Everyone was so happy and singing around everywhere! I will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

Delicious food! The grilled chicken and crab cake sandwiches were great! Get the fries, which are thinly cut and tossed in a garlic sauce. Service was good too.

Today was my second visit here, no doubt the second of many more to come! This place is such a great addition to our growing dining scene in Chattanooga. From the decor (urban warehouse but with a warm feel) to the food & service, 1885 is a gem. I had the shrimp & grits and unlike the previous reviewer, thought my shrimp was cooked perfectly (though, I don't like any seafood overcooked. Ever.) The grit cakes were flavorful and piping hot, as were the shrimp and sauce. My dining partner had the salmon, also cooked perfectly. I indulged in the Sunday Bloody Mary bar, made my own concoction from all the choices laid out and had a lovely accompaniment to my lunch (if I do say so myself!) I also shouldn't be remiss in mentioning our server, Casey. He was outstanding. He was ultra-knowledgeable about the menu, made some great recommendations, as well as proactive and efficient in his service delivery. It's obvious that the owner and staff are committed to giving an overall outstanding dining experience. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

After a long day exploring Lookout Mountain, I came here with my family and I was not disappointed! Everything we got was amazing. I don't have a bad thing to say about this place. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, Mac and cheese, shrimp and grits, the cheeseburger, and cole slaw. Everything was made in house, even the chips that came with the burger. The food was great and they are very family friendly.

Start with the pimento and cheese with fried orca appetizer. End with the banana pudding cheesecake. Can't go wrong.

Great beer selection and easily one of the best burgers in town. That's no surprise when you consider they're owned by the Tremont Tavern folks --home of the other best burger in town!

This is a new place and we checked it out for lunch on a Saturday. The decor of the place is pretty cool and it looks like they used old stuff as well as new when decorating. It has its own style. We were seated pretty quickly after waiting for a few minutes. When seated our server arrived and was professional and personable, Erock or E-rock, something like that. He provided feedback on menu items and was on top of things. The food we had was delicious and I won't go three paragraphs about fried shrimp. I am always suspect of long reviews. Here's what I'm looking for: was it good or bad if bad then why. I digress. There was a very nice outdoor seating area but it was too hot to enjoy it. Parking was plentiful in their overflow lot across the street.

This place was really awesome. I had dinner with friends and we sat outside. The service was great and the place was very clean and the food was really great. One of the people I went with to eat here recommended this place and I would come back and tell others about it too. I had the fried shrimp and they didn't even require any type of dipping sauce, or cocktail sauce. They were fresh and the breading wasn't too much.

We came down from lookout mountain incline rail and we were hungry. The staff was amicable. The Okras were very greasy so was the fish sandwich; and I understand is the south...! However, food had good taste. The waitress took quiet long bringin us the bill so we had to call the manager.

Visited while in town this past Friday night. Place was packed and people were not leaving after they were finished eating. Many groups stayed for over an hour and a half after eating which to me is rude when there are numerous people waiting to be seated. Was finally seated after 2 hours and the waiter and food were both fantastic. Manager was very apologetic and insisted that they take care of everything. I tried my best to pay but they insisted that it was taken care of and asked that I just take care of the server. Needless to say he was very happy with the tip. Will definitely go back because the food was worth the wait.

It could have been a solid four stars, and since they've only been open a month, they have the potential to reach that point. Our visit was a shaky three stars because of inconsistencies. The owner stopped by our table and we learned that one of his guiding principles is to keep the dishes simple and fresh. I have no problem with "fresh," but sometimes "simple" just means bland. I had the Shrimp & Cheese Grits (and I chose the Grit Cake style). The shrimp were plump, not overcooked, with a subtle sauce, and the grit cakes had a minimal crisp shell. But it was a small serving and nearly flavorless. The cheese in the grit cakes was barely noticeable. My daughter's corn-on-the-cob was overcooked, dry, and also lacking flavor. However, the fried flounder was perfection itself. The two spinach salads were also excellent. We were divided in opinion on the hushpuppies which ranged from "okay" to "excellent." My mother-in-law's trout was tender and very good and like the flounder, an excellent portion. The empanada that we ordered as appetizer was also quite good. Service was a bit of a disappointment as we had to repeatedly ask for refills. Looking at the timestamps of my photos it was a clear 30 minutes from the time we arrived until we got our appetizer. It was another long wait from that point until we got our meals, over an hour after being seated.

What a joke. I am stunned how people can find such a place to be good. Chattanooga must have low expectations. Sure, the ambiance is fine. The mimosas are OK. But the food? It reminded me of the odd flavors and textures of a Morrison's chain, or the kind of food you get on a flight. The barbecue is a mystery, and the turnip greens were flavorless. I'm come to expect most places to not care enough about making cornbread to get it right, but if you're hanging your sign on southern food, well.... it needs to not taste like it came from Jiffy mix. Perhaps I'm being snobbish, but if mediocre diner food is what you serve, expect to take your lumps if you try to package it bistro.

My Ribeye was cooked perfectly and the horseradish sauce that accompanied it was delicious. Unfortunately, it was a distant second to my Wife's Lamb shank over mashed potatoes and green beans. Not many meals melt in your mouth, but this one truly did. Cooked perfectly and smothered in a creamy sauce, I found myself offering my steak as a trade knowing that there was no comparison. The steak was excellent by the way. The meal was finished with their turtle cake. I would definitely eat there again. Next time I would take the bus so I don't have to search for a parking spot.

Just ate at 1884 and the food was great! Loved the menu and the freshness of everything we ordered. The kale salad was so good! Definitely give this place a try! Today was a beautiful warm day and sitting outside was so nice. Can't wait to come back my next trip through Chattanooga.

Good stop on road trip. Crab cake was good and I am picky. Homemade potatoes chips are a plus. Pretty pricy for what you get. Nice outdoor dinning.
