Been on a road trip from Texas to Pennsylvania, and due to reviews decided to stop in Bristol. The dinner was great and the shrimp and grits were to die for. Also the beer was shockingly cheap. If you're driving through this town and need a quick meal, don't stop here because the food will make you want to see the town. Definitely making the trip out here again. Oh and service as well as ambiance was also amazing.

Great service. Soup was great. Entree was also very good. The sushi was a little too light on the sushi side.

What a pleasant surprise! We were in town on business and this was recommended by a local that we were working with. After having driven through some of the more downtrodden areas of Bristol, State St. was bustling and looked energetic. The restaurant's reasonably broad menu was unexpected--some interesting variations, and again, not what I expected to find. We had a large group and the waitress was personable and efficient, and had a good working knowledge of the menu. My fish tacos were outstanding, and the various burgers, noodles, salmon and appetizers were all top notch. Very reasonably priced for the quality of the food. Highly recommended.

One of the best in Bristol. We have always had good service and food. The rib eye is great and so is the crunchy shrimp sushi roll.

Checked this place out after leaving another establishment ( the Chinese buffet down the street). This place has an interesting menu as I was not expecting sushi and other Asian foods. Overall, the food was pretty good. I had the firecracker shrimp and cucumber sushi. The sushi rice was a bit bland, not like my usual sushi rice in the DC/VA area... but it will do for Bristol with my limited options. The waiter was also nice and they had live music in the inside. It was very packed on Friday so I guess the locals must really like this place.

Would never expect a restaurant like this in a town like Bristol... but so very pleased to find it! Fresh, modern big-city cuisine with artful interpretation more reminiscent of Asheville than Bristol. Unique selections of sushi and Thai dishes paired with more traditional fare. Unique takes, flavors, and everything well seasoned and prepared. Was impressed with the drunken noodles and would certainly return. Outdoor seating is very pleasant and a nice view on State Street. Inside is massive with a gigantic stage for Live events. Service was prompt and very modern facilities. Will be back and highly recommend!

There are not a lot of good places to eat in Bristol, Tennessee. 620 State is a treat, however. The bar is a thing of beauty, and the dining area is attractive. They have a good selection of beers and a good enough selection of wines, and a few creative cocktails, which are well done. The menu is ambitious, with a wide variety of offerings, but I have enjoyed everything I have tried. The service also has always been very good.

This place is off the chart! Don't know where to begin! Sat at the bar vs. waiting for a table. Adam took care of me explaining the local brews on tap and recommended a few IPA's and made a few menu recommendations. Excellent choices and prices on both the local IPA and food. Had the Firecracker shrimp very tasty but could have been a little hotter after all it is "firecracker shrimp" - but I like it hotter than most. It did have a delayed bite, excellent appetizer. Had the Peppered Tuna roll. - excellent! I totally enjoyed the Drunken Noodles for the entree EXCELLENT ! Adam warned me it was a lit of food and an excellent choice, it was fantastic! Have to admit I got a to go box... Can't wait to enjoy again. This is one of the few places that you can't wait to come back to! Five stars is not a high enough rating! Everything - service, attitude, choices, atmosphere and prices. 620 State is one of those rare gem! Will be looking for a reason to return to Bristol to enjoy 620 State!

We've eaten at Stirfry in JC and Kingsport so we are familiar with the mixed menu genre. BTW I do not think a sign beside the door leading to the restaurant would be asking too much. A meal should not start with utter confusion. We were just ahead of the crowd so were seated quickly. We were craving Asian and my husband really enjoyed the Hot and Sour soup (it was hot and strange to me but what do I know--actually I make a very good h&s myself). His Sesame Chicken was a bit dry but a manager discounted it. My Drunken Noodles were very good with tons of shrimp and lots of leftovers. I think the place was stark with little ambience except the multiple TVS all tuned to.......sports of course. So is it a Sports Bar or a nice restaurant? You decide. Very good wait staff.

I really liked this restaurant. We went for dinner with my in-laws because it is one of their downtown favorites. I ordered the salmon entree that comes with cheese grits and asparagus. I also added a side of burgundy mushrooms and a cup of vegetarian tom kha soup. For shared appetizers, we ordered the firecracker shrimp and the big orange roll. Big orange roll: awesome. I normally shy away from soy wrapped sushi rolls, but this was so good. Tempura shrimp roll, topped with a spicy crab salad and chili sauce. Yum! Firecracker shrimp: delicious. Crispy and the sauce was tasty. This was one I wish I had ordered for myself as an entree. Tom kha soup: really good. It had quite a bit of heat to it. I like spicy food so it was alright by me but it may be too spicy for some. It also came with crispy noodles for dipping. Burgundy mushrooms: I personally didn't like these because they tasted too much like wine. More wine than mushroom. I ate a few and pushed the bowl aside. Salmon: this was really good and different. The salmon was served on a bed of grilled asparagus and cheese grits and was topped with a sweet chili sauce (maybe the same as the sushi?). The salmon was cooked perfectly. It had a little char to the exterior but was tender and perfectly cooked inside. Asparagus and grits were good too. Our server was friendly and attentive. Nice decor inside. Loved the lighting and the fact that one of the TVs was playing 90s ESPN with Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan. I would definitely visit this spot again next time we are in town.

There I was on a quiet Tuesday night in a nice pair of jeans and a button up shirt, nothing fancy and heading to 620 State fully expecting to be underdressed but to my pleasant surprise I was clearly not the most underdressed and fit right into the subtle yet classy enviroment that welcomed a wide array of people. We were greeted by a young smiling gentleman that informed us of a 20min wait..and on a Tuesday! This place was worth the wait and the service was prompt and prefessional and the food was more than what I expected, exceeding my standards. What I most enjoyed about this place was that while it was crowded and loud, and with the random sports channel on the big screen TVs, it still felt personal enough to have dinner and conversation. Can't wait to stop in again.

What a gem. Had dinner one evening and went back for lunch the next day, it was that good. The chef select sushi roll was top notch for dinner and the shrimp with grits was heavenly for lunch. The cucumber margarita was the highlight of my trip to Bristol this year! It will be a must stop whenever we go racing in Bristol.

Very friendly service!! Loved Kegan! Food was very tasty. Get the lava cake for dessert. It's awesome. Shushi roll was amAzing! Husband had the meatloaf Wellington, also good. Firecracker Shrimp for an appetizer. Yum! Even though yelp offers two deals for this restaurant, they will not honor them both. Don't get them thinking you can use them both tonight. You cannot.

620 is a mix between a bar and a casual cafe, the wait staff is really polite and on target each time I had visited. The restaurant's menu was unexpected--some interesting selections. Nice atmosphere. A little pricey for some things like the crab ragoon which is delicious, and accroding to the waitress that served me is made by the kitchen from scratch. I would reccomend this place.

The few times I've come here, I feel like their menu is having an identity crisis. The sushi is pretty good for being in the middle of the country. I will say that their sushi is better than their fish dishes. Their steaks are good. This restaurant is nothing to rave home about but it is consistent in presentation and flavor. if you're looking for a place that will appeal to everyone in your group - this is definitely it. And they have nice outdoor seating.

The atmosphere was very welcoming and our server was friendly. It felt like a comfortable sports bar. The crab rangoon was very large and cheesy. The firecracker shrimp was slightly spicy and delicious! After great appetizers our expectations were heightened for the dragon roll and paradise found roll. The rolls reminded me to avoid sushi when I'm away from the coast. They just didn't taste fresh. They tasted like the ingredients were left out most of the day. I'd go back for appetizers and to try some hot dishes.

I rarely give a one star to a place, but I really wanted to do that for 620 State. First of all, it's definitely not new. When it first opened it was really very good. But that was a few years ago now and the food has just gone downhill since. The meals I have there when folks who haven't been want to go check it out (and won't listen to my advice) haven't been horrible, but they haven't been good enough to finish. I was at a shop in downtown Bristol and the owner had just picked up lunch from 620 State. She said her sushi was terrible. She couldn't eat it. My hairdresser, who swaps good restaurant tips with me, said he couldn't go there anymore because it was so disappointing. He'll only get an appetizer because "they can't screw that up too much." So please take my advice if you read this, 620 State: Get new chefs, a new menu, hire a cleaning crew, and get back in the game. With other restaurants coming in downtown and near town, you're going to have to compete with more than the incredibly boring and mediocre competition you have been like Macado's and State Line Bar & Grill. I'd LOVE to come back, but every time I do, it's just worse than the time before. Go back to the food and service you had when you opened. Please. I don't like writing bad reviews of hometown restaurants. Bristol is changing and you need to step it up.

Not too happy with their food and service today. The sweet potato fries were cold and dark brown, received the wrong salad, soup was luke warm and the sushi was crammed on a plate and not looking to appetizing. When we asked for the bill the waitress kept forgetting to get it. If this is the norm, no thank you. Why does a restaurant serve you cold fries with your hot hamburger. Do they think you will not notice?

  • Jerry H.

When the restaurant is obviously slow and the service is slower-red flag. When the main course is served right after the lukewarm appetizer was served-red flag. What was also a red flag was the unique ability to create an almost completely flavorless dish-they called it Chicken Pud Thai. I cannot recall the last time a dish had absolutely no flavor-good, bad or indifferent. I finished about a third of it and didn't want the rest, but it didn't really seem to matter to the server. A complete waste of time and money.

A little underwhelming. Waitress was super nice. We had egg rolls, stir fry, potstickers, and shitake mushroom chicken with roasted potatoes. The roasted potatoes were delicious, a real highlight. The stir fry was ok, but the chicken was way overdone, and hard to chew. Not sure why they called it "shitake". There were four tiny slices of mushroom. Seemed like your standard button mushroom to me. The potstickers were fried, but served in liquid , so were gooey , instead of crispy. They took the chicken off our ticket, which was a nice surprise. Kind of pricey for what you get. They are known for stirfry, so that's prob the best choice if u go here. Again, staff was super nice.

Good food doesn't taste the same when the people behind it are rude. Manager called my husband a dumbass (to waitress) for showing a photo of this coupon. The gift option did not work.

Came here for my 16th birthday and it was SO GOOD! I had the crunchy shrimp roll and it was to die for! If you haven't been here already you need to try it. ASAP! Will definitely come back for more.

Tried this dimly lit and very open eatery for lunch while passing through. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. We shared a sushi roll as an appetizer. Half price sushi on Tuesdays too! It was very fresh and if I hadn't already ordered an entree, I would have ordered another one! I had the state street salad with chicken option. YUM! Get the warm ginger dressing with it! It's sooooo good and really completes the salad. Try it. Hubby had the black and blue burger with sweet potato fries. He took off the second burger since it was too much to eat all together on one small bun. He did like the fries and the savory honey mustard dipping sauce. Lunch was so good. We enjoyed our meal and would go back.

Will not return. I will drive to kingsport and just eat at stir fry next time. I ordered drunken noodles with chicken. They brought it out with steak instead. I decided to just eat it because I hate sending food back. Would have been good except the meat was either dry or fatty. It was full of huge chunks of fat. My husband ordered kung pow chicken and it was not spicy at all which is the point of ordering it. The kicker was finding a piece of wire in his food which he nearly ate. So I showed the waitress and she took it to the manager who came out to profusely apologize. We got our meal for free which was OK considering we barely ate any of it. By the way, the wire as it turns out, came from a Brillo pad used to clean the wok. Food quality was poor but the service was good, as was the atmosphere. I'd go again for drinks but that's about it.

OUTSTANDING! Great cocktails (I had a Pims Cup) using high quality liquor and fresh flavors. No pre-made mixes here! We had the seared ahi tuna and the pork pot stickers to start. The tuna came with a tasty sauce. It was super fresh and had a great sear with a pink center. The pot stickers were perfectly cooked and had a nice texture (not too doughy) and the filling was tasty with subtle asian flavors. For dinner my daugher had the kids fried rice with chicken. It tasted excellent and was a large portion for a child. Impressive dish though. Fresh vegetables, good seasoning. I had the Drunken Noodles with chicken. I am a noodle snob and these noodles were some of the best I have had. I enjoyed the wide noodle, fresh vegetables and LOTS of well seasoned chicken. It is spicy but I enjoy that My husband had the blue burger. He said it was excellent. Lovely toasted bun, flavorful double patties and grilled onions. Would definitely drive out of my way to come back here!

Well my only comment today is geared towards bar. They are always out of stuff. Several times I ask for Patron XO and told someone finished the bottle; do they only order one bottle at a time!

Best food I've at in Bristol! We came for the shrimp and grits for our anniversary and they are the best we have ever had. Manager also offered us free dessert for our anniversary. We will be back.

Sushi was solid, spicy mayo was placed on a hot plate making the mayo hot. That was sad. Prices get two thumbs up. Shrimp was shrimp with just the right amount of shrimp.

  • Angie A.

Drinks were great. Appetizers left more to be desired. Fried pickles had a good spice and batter but menu said "spears" and they were chips. Minor detail. The lettuce wraps were virtually inedible. The lettuce wraps were served with a wedge of iceberg lettuce which was difficult at best to "wrap". The mixture itself had an ok taste but had unevenly sized vegetables and chicken. The combination of tiny vegetables, large chunks of chicken and iceberg lettuce made it nearly impossible to eat, even with a fork.

I was in Bristol for 3 days and ate at this place twice. First time had the 620 burger, which was a burger with bacon, avocado, and a jalapeno sauce. Possibly one of the top 5 burgers I've ever had. Then, on my second visit I ordered the meatloaf wellington. Imagine meatloaf wrapped in a pastry, sitting in mash potatoes and onions and gravy. Incredible. This place is a must if you're in Bristol.

never have i encountered a place so confused about its own identity. 620 stretches too far without enough effort. it tries to be neither asian nor fusion, instead coming off as a very, very american attempt to capitalize on the lack of sushi in bristol. the menu feels distinctly disorganized, and while im aware that "fusion"cuisine means im supposed to expect american and homogenously "asian"dishes, looking for rolls right after hamburgers and meatloaf turns me off. ive not experienced their american options and its not in my plans. alongside that, ive not tried the drinks, as they dont sound very appetizing to me but my fiance has been nothing but disappointed every time she has. the sushi is often soggy-wet and chewy, surprising considering how much it costs. their noodle dishes are underwhelming and greasy, often overzealous on one particular ingredient at a time (usually sprouts or egg). the wait is incredible and the service horrifying, and out of seven or eight desperate visits (many the choice of newcomer friends; id long given up) six of them involved being told "we don't have x ingredient for that, what else can we do for you?" three of those visits invilved this being said over multiple dishes. id never comment on this if it weren't absolutely constant. 620 is more ambitious than is safe for its own wellbeing, and ive never been so repeatedly disappointed.

Who woulda thought- what a gem in downtown Bristol . Had the rainbow roll & calamari salad- wow! They were out of saki but that would have been trouble anyway. Sushi was awesome, great scene, and service was spot on! I'll be back!!!

First off, let me say that I loved Bristol. I find it so awesome that we parked in VA and ate in TN... but I guess that's how they get most of their tourists. Anyways, 620 State is a classy place. It feels hours away from TN... very clean with lots of etched glass and uplighting. The menu is all over the place, from chinese and thai to sushi to steak and burgers. M had a salad and salmon roll (both ok) and I had the drunken noodles (pretty good). Service was very relaxed-- normally nice except that we wanted to get back on the road and I don't think the waiter cared. If we ever pass through Bristol again, I'd like to have a more leisurely meal and watch some live music... but until then they're a-ok.

The Tri-Cities (Kingsport, Johnson City, and, of course, Bristol) have a surprising variety of dining choices for a small population center. However, there's no such thing as too much variety, so I'm happy to welcome 620 State to downtown Bristol. The owners have an excellent history in the area, having opened Stir Fry Cafe in Knoxville, and One 12 Downtown in Johnson City. The former is a varied Asian-style eatery, and the latter offers American and pub fare. 620 is a bit like a love child of the two themes, and it works quite well especially if your group has some with more staid tastes and other more adventurous palates. The menu offers American fare (burgers, fried appetizers), multiple Asian options (sushi, specialty sushi, Thai curry), and destinations in-between (fish tacos). As I have a condition that limits my diet, I enjoy a restaurant such as 620 that allows me a wide variety of meal options when I want to go meat- or wheat-free and the staff is willing to modify items that don't have variations posted on the menu. On this visit, I had the Drunken Noodles with tofu and a spring egg roll. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy. The sauce was savory with only a hint of a tingle. In future visits, I'd probably take the option of turning up the heat. My girlfriend had sushi with Tom Ka soup and seemed to enjoy both. The interior was furnished with dark woods and brass and had a pleasingly warm feel. The staff was fast, friendly, and kept our glasses full. Altogether, it was an excellent experience and bodes future visits.

Probably the hippest spot in Bristol. Food is good. Beer selection could be better. Service is great.

In the heart of downtown Bristol, this restaurant venue features an extensive menu to please any palette. If you are into Sushi, they have an extensive selection. Every time we have been, we try something new and have been pleased with every meal. Live music almost every night. Although the restaurant is only open for dinner currently, they will begin serving lunch in February 2012. Restaurant only been open since December 12, 2011 and they have been spot on since day one! Congrats to Allen and Rafael for a job very well done in every way! A true new gem for Bristol's day and night scene. Especially awesome that they embrace the important of live music celebrating Bristol as the Birthplace of Country Music,

620 is great no matter how you look at it. Great atmosphere, great food, & great service. We love sitting outside in the spring and summer enjoying their wonderful mixed drinks. This place is upscale for Bristol and is a must if you if you haven't been. Parking is not an issue either because there is a back parking lot with a back entrance.

Very open. Nice atmosphere. We had never been but decided to go ahead and give it a try. Turns out, it's StirFry, basically, with a couple of extras. It's even suitable for those not entirely committed to Asian cuisine. So it works well those that can't make up their mind as to whether to have sushi or steak. You can have both. We enjoyed it and will go back.

Driving cross country and will not eat at any chain restaurants. Yelped this one and boy are we glad. Food is great. I had the drunken noodles my friend had spicy noodles. Both cooked to perfection with very fresh shrimp. Portions are humongous! It didn't hurt that the wine was 1/2 price per bottle. Service was more than great.

First visit to 620 State bit not the last. The service was The Best. Clean refreshing environment. Quick service food was at table within 15 minutes of order. Spinach dip was best I've had. Meatloaf Wellington was very good and the dessert also rocked. If you like Asian food with a twist this is for you.

Our family enjoys eating here on a regular basis. The menu is quite eclectic, but I don't mind since we have picky eaters in the family. It allows for everyone to find something, whether it is a burger or sushi. There has only been a few items that I have tried from their menu that has left something to be desired. I also love what the owner has done in restoring the historic downtown building. It is a nice change from the chain restaurant scene. I would have given the restaurant 5 stars, but the service is always hit or miss. Some servers are wonderful, but more than not, we get a server who is complacent and inattentive. Outside of this, if you are in the Bristol TN/VA area, this place is definitely worth the try.

We're traveling cross country and stopped for lunch in Bristol. I have to admit that I didn't have high hopes for this place as we've found that the reviews in small towns have been limited and mostly inaccurate. However, we were really happy with this meal. Service was friendly and the dishes we ordered were well prepared and good tasting. We had an avocado roll, the salad with salmon and the chicken nugget salad. Each one was good and made with fresh ingredients. The only complaint is that both salads had cheese and bacon on them even though those didn't go with the Asian style preparation of salmon/ginger dressing. If you're stopping in Bristol for a meal I think this is a good bet.

  • Alex A.

They say good things come in small packages, and this holds true with their sushi. A tad smaller than your average roll, but I highly recommend the volcano roll. Somewhat stingy with the ginger and wasabi, but the design and taste of the sushi is phenomenal. We also had the dragon, spicy salmon, and tiger rolls, which were all tasteful. To our surprise, the tacos were actually the best item; we had the blackened salmon tacos, and they were spectacular. So much taste, and flavor in a simple item such as a taco.

great burger - the 620 was cooked perfectly, tasty jalapeno sauce and fresh avocado - nice, friendly southern service to boot!
