You want an old school steak house? I mean a real old school steak house. Not one that's been around for 24 months but made to look like old school Chicago....no, you want a place that's been around for 50 years, where the grill man has been at his post for 30....where the martinis are served dirty and the blue cheese stuff olives are stuff on site. Where 'ill have a wedge, filet, medium rare and baker' is all that needs to be ordered. And if you close your eyes you can imagine Sammy, frank and the rat pack sitting in a corner booth holding court. If this sounds like your kind of place, make the 5 minute drive from downtown for one of the best experiences you'll have in Greenville. Say hi to jimmy the owner...I suspect he's there every night and will treat you like you've been coming for years....knowing that once you've been once you will be a fan for life.

Never again. I have been here several times over the course of several years, and have never been a huge fan. Our most recent visit was our last. We were meeting for a family celebration and somebody else made the call on the venue. When we arrived with our baby in tow, the hostess had the audacity to tell us we should have asked for a private room if we were going to have a baby. He's a 6 week old infant. He does nothing but sleep and eat. If I had made the reservation - it would have been somewhere else anyway. The grumpy old man up front (who I have since found out is the owner) made no effort to his his disproval that somebody had brought a baby to his restaurant. If he's so freakin worried about the ambiance in his establishment he should start by updating the rotting, dated, skeezy-70's-strip-joint decor and update his "specials" that have never changed. The food: It's simply not worth the money. The steaks are always dry and *rarely* cooked to your requested temperature (pun intended). The "specials" -as I stated above- have not changed. Ever. I suspect they are just part of the regular menu but the owner is too cheap to redo the decaying menus. The service: I love the lady that waited on us. She was friendly and accommodating, even if she did mess up 3 different orders. She was quick to correct her mistakes. Recommendations: If you want a *good* steakhouse try Rick Erwin's (more expensive) in downtown Greenville, or The Strip Club (similarly priced) in downtown Greer.

First and last for us. Felt like we were dining in a senior citizen dining hall. We were meeting friends at 7pm and they arrived first. They text us and told us they had been seated and were in a back corner. Not hard to find as it's a fairly small restaurant. However, as we started walking to the table, we were stopped by the hostess that told us, she'd sit us. We saw our friends, even waved at them but had to wait until the hostess sat a party of 7 before we could go. Odd, but oh well, just a hostess that takes her job seriously. Once we were seated, our waitress arrived. Told us the specials and took our drink order. The steaks were dry, tough and were probably the special deal at the local market. Salads and potatoes just ok. The service was good, friendly and have no complaints with her. Overall, this restaurant was built in 1952 and is stuck in 1960. We called it Heavens waiting room. The average customer looked to be 82. Seriously. First and last for us.

This was our second visit. The first one was very good. I think the problem with this visit was mainly due to the waitress. One of the specials for the evening was bacon wrapped scallops. I asked how they were broiled and I was told they were broiled in butter. I asked if I could get them broiled with olive oil and was told "I guess so". So I replied you guess so or they can be. She said they can be. My husband said he's have the same thing but with a baked sweet potato. Well out came the dinners. My scallops had no bacon his did and he had a white potato. When I asked what happened to the bacon on mine she said I only ordered broiled scallops and she said look that's what I wrote down. We were with another couple and I just dropped it. , We'll probably return but not sit where this woman is the server

Truly a five star dining experience. This Greenville Landmark has someone of the best food you can find around Greenville. Their Lobster Bisque soup is phenomenal and is definitely worth a try. The staff is friendly and the owners are their on a nightly basis. We recently moved from South Carolina to Nevada and miss the ability to go to the Open Hearth!

We love this restaurant. Great atmosphere, great food, great wine selection. I have never had a bad meal here, everything is delish!

This is an old-fashioned restaurant where the salad and side are included with the entree, which we like. The atmosphere is nice, the lights are dim and the clientele is mainly seniors. We both ordered the ribeye because we were told the steaks were good. The ribeyes were $26 each, so our expectations were high. My husband and I were both surprised when they turned out to be segmented and thin. Like you could buy a better steak at Publix. It was extremely disappointing.

My review will most likely go over like a fart in church, but my followers have come to expect nothing but honesty with a touch of humor - so here goes nothing! First of all - there really is nothing much to impress you by the looks of this place from the outside, but that impression begins to climb as you open the first set of doors to this 52 year old establishment. The daily specials are tactfully written on the chalkboard as you enter and we were quickly taken to our seats - no reservation was needed on a Wednesday night. We were given out menus in a timely friendly manner and glassed of ice water were poured - no need to ask for water like so many places today. After looking at the menu and having our drink orders taken - we waited a few more minutes for the "third-wheel" of the group to show up. We had already been told what the special were and listened again as they were explained to our colleague. And he convinced me to order the bacon wrapped scallops. So let's start with those delicious perfectly cooked little gems. Fantastic - though I think they could have added one more so that we each could have had two instead of one of us only getting one! On to the meal - one colleague ordered the special, which not only looked great, but she commented on how great it was. The other two of us ordered steaks - and trust me - they couldn't have been cooked better nor could they have had better flavor - we were both impressed. However, that's where the fantastic ended and the mediocre began. The salad was ok - nothing to write about, the sweet potato was cooked ok, but lacked that scrumptious brown sugar and butter topped - though they offered a shaker of cinnamon and brown sugar - it just wasn't the typical yummy stuff you normally get, which was very disappointing after such great steaks. Not wanting to end the night on a bad note - we decided to split the only desert they claimed to make themselves - baklava (not sure I am spelling that right) - however, our desire to end on a good note continued to go down hill. It was the very worst baklava I have ever had - maybe my Greek friends are superb chefs - not sure but this place stinks at making this fine desert. If I add the fact that our waitress wasn't the best - this 5 star rating quickly plummets to a 3 star and a place I won't be going back to any time soon or ever. It just isn't worth another trip when there are so many places to try out in Greenville. I'm sure they are doing enough right to stay in business for 52 years, but they didn't do enough to get me to go back. If they truly want to be remembered and pack the people in - they need to improve on those waitress skills and definitely offer better deserts. Everything else was GREAT! I must also comment that the place was clean and the value was ok - slightly high, but certainly not outrageous.

Great food and drinks!! Try the cucumber martini. I had the 16oz Porterhouse it was ok, my wife's 8oz bacon wrapped filet was a lot better. Also, try the bacon wrapped scallops.

Words cannot begin to express how much our family loves this restaurant. It is always a very special treat to eat there! My wife and I took our kids there for the first time recently, and when we drove up and they saw the outside, they were wondering why we had brought them here. It is located in an old strip of shops, and honestly, the whole area looks quite run down. But trust me, just walk inside the Open Hearth and your whole attitude will change. It is absolutely beautiful inside. The owners are always so incredibly polite. They're the kind of people who make you feel very special and very welcome there. And the food... oh man... where do I start? Let me just say that I'm a filet mignon lover, and the filet here simply cannot be beat anywhere! I just wish they would serve sweet tea. I don't know why they don't, but hey, this is the south... sweet tea is mandatory. Still, I will continue to eat here because of the wonderful atmosphere, the delightful owners, and the fantastic food! I hope they never decide to change the winning formula they've kept going for longer than I've been alive. (I believe it's been in business for more than 50 years!) This place feels like stepping back in time -- in a good way -- where the waiters and waitresses actually know how to take care of their guests. If you have an anniversary or some other special occasion, I would really encourage you to give the Open Hearth a try. I think you'll be as delighted as we always are. It is our go-to place for all special dinners.

I'm always weary buying a livingsocial, but I can see why they need more customers... Terrible service. 15 minutes to get drinks from the bar. Fruit fly in the bourbon from the bar. Dirty martini was under poured. Calamari was not fresh, likely frozen - very chewy. Steaks over cooked and under seasoned - medium well when we ordered medium rare. Steaks look like they were bought at publix (less than 1/2" thick and stringy). Potatoes brown/over cooked. Onion rings were gross, chewy and tasteless. That plus poor service... Clearly a one time deal.

This restaurant is a landmark in Greenville, and has been in business for 52 years, with Chef William Brown as the Head Chef for 35 years, so that should tell you they are doing something right. The steaks the best you will find anywhere; cooked to perfection and melt in your mouth tender. The seafood is always fresh and delicious. Every dish is absolutely as good as it gets. The place hasn't changed much over its life, but why change something that is so good. The owners greet you and make you feel very welcome, and the staff are all attentive and very friendly. They have an extensive wine list and full bar to complement your meal. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and casual but classy. You cannot go wrong with The Open Hearth.

Not much to look at from the outside, but the best fire grilled steaks outside the weber on my deck.
