A great local coffee shop on the square in Summerville. I believe this is locally owned and operated, and they seem to care about their brews. They have a good selection of roasted beans for purchase (that includes Brazilian peaberry-thumbs up!), and their brewed coffee is good. Much above several chain stores that claim great coffee. So far, my favorite thing here is the espresso. While I'm a huge fan of Americanos (they are good here), the espresso shots are full and flavorful (fruity actually) without having a massive "bite" to them. Well done, guys! The interior here is like a mix between a cluttered store, a kitchen, a house, and a coffee shop (obviously). Very eclectic, but you feel right at home. Definitely doesn't feel like a "cold museum-type" shop. They do have a very small stage set up with a mic for music, readings, open mic night, whatever. There are also a couple of small tables outside with a couple of chairs each. Not a lot of outdoor seating, but enough because you usually won't have a hard time getting in here nor should you have much issue finding a close parking spot.

I used to love this place! The staff went out of their way to be helpful and give great advice. I went in a couple weeks ago to have some tea and snack with my book and the owner greeted me at the countertop with her mouth full of food and actually as she was speaking, splattered me. That time I took my tea to go and did not get anything to snack on as the scones were gone. I went in there last week to get afternoon tea and again the owner met me with a mouthful of food and when I ordered the afternoon tea she said unless I could finish it in an hour she would not advise me getting it because they were closing early. If I'm going to order something I shouldn't be told that I have a specific time to finish it. With them being in a business, they should be happy to have the business, not tell me i can't have what I ordered, unless of course, it is out of stock.

Such a cute little store. But the desserts weren't very fresh and the staff wasn't friendly at all. The honeydew bubble tea with blueberry pearls is so good but most of the other flavors are pretty displeasing. If you don't like what you order they will tell you that if you want it replaced you have to buy another one.

Probably my favorite place of all time. It's a romance novel like no other, I met Chai tea here, and we fell in love. It was love at first sight until I met the Almond Croissant... Then I had a love affair with the Chicken salad Croissant, then on to the Lox on Bagel. Flash forward, I spend a lot of time in this cafe- mostly dwelling and wallowing in self pity, but at least I've got great service, great food, great music, and great scenery to keep me company. This IS my favorite place. Ever.

Our go-to cafe! Current fave is the blended pumpkin harvest bubble drink!! So happy to find boba bc it's rare down here in the south. More expensive than I'm used to in Cali, but just happy to find it. Taro bubble tea, mmm :) nice little atmosphere. Hubby and I enjoy the open mic nights, tho it can be difficult to find a seat.

The tea and coffee are both great!! I love the local feel to the store. It seems to be a great place to study, work, or just hang out. I went a couple of weekends ago and they had a chocolate fountain. I don't know if this is a usual thing on the weekends, but it was pretty unique and cool! I will be going back for sure!

Probably my favorite place in town, and I've lived here for 22 years. I used to go to this adorable cafe once if not twice a week, up until money got extremely tight. Their prices are only a tiny bit more than a cheap cafe, but much higher quality. The staff is great, they even remembered what I'd order when I went in. It's great for anyone looking to take your friends for an afternoon coffee or tea.

Love this place. Beautiful and quaint decor. Always go for the Bubble Tea and I am always satisfied. The scones are yummy as well.

Really enjoyed eating here during my visit to SC. It's a very quaint shop and both our food and drinks were very good. The staff was friendly and personable. The decor is truly from years past, I loved it. Fits right in in downtown Summerville.

The service is OK but they are not very friendly its almost like their name is very true to what you experience, a single smile is all you will get so you better be on the look out! With that being said they do put out a decent product. I had one bad food experience here and it was a while back and it was She Crab soup out of a jar and heated in a microwave and I got sick shortly after eating it. I don't go here any more for food, I go here to get a good cup of Joe and to support a good local business.

I absolute adore bubble tea. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Single Smile Cafe served bubble tea. They offer popping jelly, tapoica pearls, and rainbow jelly in their drinks. I first tried the green tea frappe with strawberry popping pearls. Delicious. I decided to venture out and try 3 other flavors of blended drinks and was not pleased at all with the flavors. There was no distinction in the flavor differences between the blended drinks and the taste was chalky and bland, like from a packet of powder. The only thing I get from this cafe is the green tea blended drink with strawberry popping because I am afraid to try anything else for fear of wasting my money on a bad tasting drink. I've only had one thing to eat from here (a piece of pie, maybe? It was not memorable) and I was not impressed. I think this cafe has great potential if the product was revamped and had a bit more flair. I was not pleased to see one of the staff members eating a bite from the food assembly fridge and return to work without washing his hands. That turned me off to eating anything else from there. The atmosphere is nice. A little cramped, but I can understand them wanting to fit in as many customers as possible. I think, however, the hundreds of coffee cups and products for sale in the windows detract from the appeal of the cafe. A cluttery feel inside a coffee shop isn't really my idea of a calming and welcoming atmosphere. They offer Open Mic night on Tuesday nights and it can get a little crowded in there some weeks. However, it's worth it. Supporting local musicians of all ages and talents is something I can get behind.

This is a pretty neat place, and it definitely has that homey local feel. I've had a few of the frozen teas and they all tasted good, but I can go get 2 good beers for less than I paid for the teas. I took my mother and little bro there a few weeks ago for breakfast, and I honestly can't remember what I had to eat, which usually isn't a good sign. My brother had the quiche and he liked it, but he is also 15 and has two hollow legs. I would remember it if my food was great, but I would also remember it if it was bad so I guess it's about middle of the road. I can't deny that the drinks are good, but with not so stellar food and high prices, I had to dock a few points. The service has been hit or miss, but I do think its cool that they have a shelf for the regulars' coffee cups. I'd say it's worth a try if you haven't been before.

This is where you want to come early Saturday morning on your way to the Farmers Market. A large selection of breakfast pastries and goodies. Coffee and other drinks aplenty! There was live local musicians playing a variety of songs on several stringed instruments. My wife, daughter and I plan to make it part of our Saturday morning route!

The chicken salad sandwich....AMAZING and I rarely like chicken salad. I'm a sucker for cute little coffee shops and this one is definitely one I those I'll be visit regularly when I move into town.

A quaint little place to grab a cup of coffee or tea in Old Summerville. This is the place my (now) husband asked my parents for their blessing so it has a bit of sentimental value to us.

My friend told me about this place this weekend. Since we were in the area we decided to go and get a tapioca pearl ice tea. We tried the Taro, Green tea and Thai Tea. All of them were delish. The taro did taste a little bit like ube which is a flavor known in the philippines. It was very good. This shop is very homey inside. We will be back! Staff was wonderful.

Love this place! For me, it's like that neighborhood place you go to where everyone knows your name. There's no alcohol, so I'm always to happy to bring my family, and the music is out of this world. I love to bring my guitar and participate in open mic, and it is truly one of the most encouraging and welcoming environments I've ever played in. It's a place where professional and beginner are welcomed to take the stage, and everyone is better for it. It's in a historic corner in town square, and it has started a renaissance in the local music scene. If you've never been here before, be sure to check out the Tuesday evening open mic and spotlight music on most Thursday nights. I've been coming every week for nearly three years now, and I can say that this place is more than a cup of coffee...it is a vital artery to the heart of Historic Summerville.

Worst boba tea in the world! Tapioca pearls tasted like they were cooked the previous night not soft and chewy more like hard and disgusting. Then we had to listen to some Asian lady at the cash register tell her co worker she didn't charge someone something for a good 2 min. Before she offered to help. On top of that she did not seem very nice/cheerful to help us.

A nice family owned coffee and tea shop has come to Summerville! I like that there is a whole selection of teas (tevanna brand loose leaf tea, some bagged teas, and really good loose leaf chinese teas)! There are different gourmet coffees too you choose the beans you want. My parents are coffee lovers and my mom orders the French press which is a way to make amazing strong coffee that is freshly ground and pressed to order. There is a very nice clean, kind of contemporary style atmosphere to sit and enjoy a pot of tea or coffee if you are alone, with a date, or even a large group (have taken the whole family here! We sat at the big table) Their pastries are from Saffron, everyone likes them (but we all know I don't support saffron!!) and there are soups/sandwiches (I haven't tried yet). I think it's the perfect place to get a cup of tea or coffee for anyone who is visiting downtown ~ and I can actually afford to go here regularly ^__^

Awesome little surprise in downtown Summerville! Fun, quirky latte blends, high-quality expresso and coffee, lots and lots of tea, a small compact food menu, and an assortment of baked goods. I always get the Lox Bagel, but am recently loving the Orange Salad. Also, they have a bacon latte that I absolutely love! Please note that this is a cafe, not a restaurant. Trinity M's review is a bit deceptive; of course they don't make their own baked goods! Most of the pastries come from Saffron and other famous Charleston establishments.

Their pimiento cheese sandwich is tasty as all get out! This really has a local coffee house feel. If i lived in an apartment or was a college student I'd probably schlep here to study.

  • Mackenzie Q.

This is a very nice, easy going coffee house. The pastries and desserts come from Saffron's Bakery which is a downtown staple! Coffee beans come from a local roaster called Charleston Coffee Roasters. They carry over 80 local and international teas. The menu consists of light fare such as salads, sandwiches, soups, bagels, etc. They have free wi-fi, entertainment several nights a week, and a super friendly staff! Check them out on Facebook or just go in and see for yourself!

I love to work from this place. I am a very mobile individual, and I make this one of my regular stops. The coffee is very good, as is the food. I also love the fact that they serve a wide variety of teas -- I am a tea guy when I'm not in the mood for coffee. The owner is a very sweet lady who always welcomes me in.

Had I been writing this review 3 years ago I would have given it 4 or 5 stars. I am an avid small business supporter and want nothing more than for places like this to thrive. However, recently SSC has not been a place I feel I can support any longer. Customer service (which I believe is the key to a successful business) is not a priority for them from what I can tell. I have heard several accounts from friends and family of the rude service they have received and I have witnessed it first hand more than once. I just cannot support a business that does not value their customers.

The staff did not seem to know very much about coffee when I asked questions the answer was usually um.. I don't know my wife did that. It takes a long time to order a drink they right everything down and there pricing does not make any sense. I think it is really overpriced for what kind of product they are putting out. That seems to be the case with most of the coffee places around here. They also dont offer a tripple shot if you ask for one they will charge you a quad price and throw the other one away with out telling you. I dont think they know there is a tripple filter.

My husband and I stopped by here one afternoon and were very disappointed to find that the bagels were from Atlanta Bread Company and they were nearly twice the price.

Very neat coffee & tea shop open 7 days. Light breakfasts-bagels, sweet rolls, Jimmy Dean sausage sandwiches, big, robust cups of coffee. Lunch menu looks good w/ soups & sandwiches. This is the kind of coffee shop where you could go & spend hours reading or chatting. Would love to try the afternoon tea buffet.

Very nice staff, friendly service, they always have hot fresh coffee (even in the afternoon, take note Summerville!) Nicest coffee place in Summerville.

We are locals and have been to this little coffee shop five times over the last year. Three of those times, we've had food items and all three times, the food has been so stale that it's almost inedible. (A scone, a muffin and a half dozen macaroons). I don't believe any food is actually made in the shop, but rather all brought in from elsewhere. Perhaps frozen or next day items? All but one time, the owner was working, which you'd think would be a good thing, but no. That being said, because the coffee is always fresh and the bubble tea is pretty good, I never wrote a review because I hate giving such low ratings, especially to fellow small business owners. But after today's experience, I just had to let people know. The owner is the least friendly, least professional person you will ever meet. I'm OK with not being chatty or even smiley, but if you're in the food industry and trying to keep people coming back, you at least say hello when people walk in. She often is eating or drinking behind the counter while we're there. The young cash register girls are always sweet and helpful, but if she sees them make a mistake, she fusses and embarrasses them right in front of all the customers. If you ask a question, she answers you as curtly as humanly possible, usually without even looking your way. The incident that led to this review. Yesterday, I met a friend here for coffee. I saw that they had macaroons and since my husband loves them, I decided to buy 6 to take with me. They were all jumbled together on a cake plate, but the register girl assured me they were fresh from a 'french bakery downtown.' When she couldn't tell me the flavors, the owner stepped in and reiterated that fact, all while making the girl feel like an idiot for not recognizing the flavors. I asked if there was a price for a half dozen and the owner snapped at me that the price is set per one, no matter how many. OK, fine. So I spent $11 on 6 macaroons. Fast forward to dessert after dinner and we sit down with our macaroons. So stale and rock hard that we couldn't eat them. We tried bites out of 4 just to make sure it wasn't just one flavor that was bad, but no. All of them. Put them back in the box and to bed with no dessert. This morning, another friend invited me for coffee at Single Smile. I thought, 'at least I'll get to tell her that the macaroons she's selling are inedible.' I'd sure want to know! So we got there, ordered our drinks and I showed her the box of 4 half eaten macaroons and 2 remaining full ones. She was FURIOUS. I couldn't even get out the part that I just wanted her to know that the macaroons are old and need to be replaced before selling more- she just told me that I was mistaken and that they came from a fancy bakery. She finally snapped that we'd 'obviously enjoyed half of 4 of them since they were bitten.' WHAT?! How else would we know they're stale? She said she'd refund us for the 2 unbitten ones because they could be re-sold. Again, WHAT?! I asked if she heard how ridiculous she was sounding. She never spoke another word- she pounded on the cash register, refunded my full amount, and slammed it into my hand before stomping off to the back of the kitchen. So unfriendly, so unnecessary and beyond unprofessional. There is no excuse for anyone to behave this way, especially a business owner! It's a shame because the other staff members are usually friendly and the drinks are pretty good. Alas, we will never set foot back in the shop, nor will we recommend it to anyone. Owner should be ashamed of her behavior.

It's always a great day when you can work from a local coffee shop rather than the office or home. I found Single Smile Cafe on Yelp (imagine that) and promptly made my way there to settle in and get some work done. The location itself is really cute- tucked in an older looking building. The inside has this really cool blend of coffee shop staples and Asian fusion- VERY cool stuff to look at. Side note: They have two long tables that have power strips in the middle- the perfect setup for someone who is looking for a place to land and work on a laptop! I went with a dirty chai latte to start off with, after reading reviews of it being heaven on earth. Did. Not. Disappoint. This might have been the best chai I've ever had. It was that good. I also ordered their breakfast sandwich- it comes on a croissant and holy moly was it massive! I couldn't even eat all of it, with the egg and bacon and cheese. So much cheese. Oh- did I mention that they use adorable home-y mugs and cups? It's like they brewed your latte in your own kitchen. If you're a tea-lover like myself, then this will also be the place for you. After my chai, I had to go back for something else. I ended up getting a Blueberry Green Tea that was a great way to wrap up my morning. If you're looking for a spot for breakfast, lunch or anything between, go check them out!

Not a place where I would recommend Bubble Teas. Their tapioca pearls (boba) was hard. Maybe it wasn't prepared the right way. If you want Boba or Bubble Tea, I'd recommend Tapio. This place would be my last resort if I want Boba and don't feel like driving, since it's the closest where I live. On a positive note, they have decent pastry selections. I was hoping I could try the chocolate croissant, but unfortunately they didn't have it. I tried the velvet cupcake instead and it was delish! Not too much frosting, just right! The ambiance was good too. It's just a small coffee shop where people can relax, hang out and drink some coffee. Customer service was just okay.

Great little coffee shop that sells coffee, espresso, boba, pastries, and even whole bean coffee by the lb. I love that they have boba (bubble tea). The coconut bubble tea was a bit sweeter than I like but it was good. I'd go back again but would probably try a different flavor. My daughter loved the strawberry bubble tea! The lady behind the counter was very helpful & took the time to answer any questions I had. We will be going back.

I really enjoyed having coffee here the other day. Friendly folks, good joe, and plenty of space to feel comfortable. Shoot, there was even a guy there playing live music when I visited. Really nice ambiance. The menu had lots of options, and the prices were right on par with most coffee shops. The girls working behind the counter were very friendly and seemed to be working relatively hard. It's pretty easy to strike up a conversation with a stranger here, as it seems like a lot of patrons come here to hang out and relax; as they should with any good neighborhood coffee spot. I don't often get over to this side of town, but when I do, I will surely stop by again.

I've never been too impressed with this place. The owner isn't friendly and some of the staff are rude too. It's just a little frustrating. I mean most people are coming here at the start of their day and want to be greeted with a friendly hello, not a grumpy person! Anyways, I'm not a huge coffee person, but I do enjoy a good ice coffee to which I had to stop coming here because an ice coffee took longer than 5 minutes sometimes. Not to mention stupidly expensive. Not a great start to my morning.

Green tea bubble tea (tapioca bubbles) with skim milk over ice. Love it. This place just belongs in downtown Summerville, and it offers many great events to be a part of. Tuesdays are open mic night starting at 6, but make sure you get there early for a seat! Single Smile has been my Summerville café of choice for some time now! The only problem I have with Single Smile is the weird hours. They open and close at very random times which can be disappointing at times! Single Smile also has great coffee drinks, but since this is one of the only places to get bubble tea in the area that's what I always get. They have a vast variety of teas you can buy by the tin, and you can also purchase fresh, local coffee beans. Single Smile does lunch and desserts, so don't think you can only come here for coffee! Bottled sodas and fresh snacks are just another perk!

In Charleston for Navy Graduation and found this little Coffee Shop in Summerville after enjoying a great hot dog at Perfectly Franks. What a nice surprise definitely tasty coffee (try the German Chocolate Latte! )

Ever.

The chicken salad sandwich....AMAZING and I rarely like chicken salad. I'm a sucker for cute little coffee shops and this one is definitely one I those I'll be visit regularly when I move into town.

Really enjoyed eating here during my visit to SC. It's a very quaint shop and both our food and drinks were very good. The staff was friendly and personable. The decor is truly from years past, I loved it. Fits right in in downtown Summerville.
