Today was my second time visiting for breakfast, and it was so good I kept eating well past the point of being full. The pancakes are easily the best I've ever had. Not sure what they put in the batter but it can't be legal. The service is very friendly, and the atmosphere is casual and inviting. I'm just sad I don't have a place like this near my home!

My husband and I were running errands near the intersection of Bees Ferry and Savannah Highway and decided to venture down to Ravenel for dinner since it was only about 9 miles away and traffic was light. We had a great time. The service was quick and friendly, and the food was delicious. I had fried chicken and the breading was just the way I like it. One piece of my chicken was thicker than the other so I'm afraid a small bit of the center was slightly undercooked but I cut around the more translucent part and didn't have a problem. I'm not dumb so I wouldn't eat it and then complain later. I've cooked chicken before and had the same thing happen and my role in life isn't to shout Gordon Ramsay style at people. So I want the chicken noted, but I won't say it ruined the night or anything. I would love to come back to this restaurant again because it really did feel like a home away from home, and offered great customer service. Plus it was easy to get into their parking lot and find room to park. Those are big pluses if you're at all familiar with the city of Charleston. So there you go. If you find yourself in Ravenel and you're hungry then I highly recommend this place. Enjoy!

Always freaking awesome! Consistent, friendly and just GREAT FOOD! I'm so glad there's a restaurant that I can always count on to go to experience a great meal... Breakfast lunch or dinner, all great!

Thanks to previous reviewers, we tried the fried corn. It was worth the caloric content!! Start things off with a cup of shrimp chowder and you'll be set for the day. Wait staff was personable and attentive. Next time we are in the Charleston area, "we'll be back!"

For the price this is the best food in the low country. I have eaten there several times and I have never had a bad meal. If you like good old town country cooking, this is the place to go!

Stopped here with our family on the way out of town. You can tell when a restaurant cares about the food they put out. We had an array of brunch dishes-and all were delicious--from eggs and grits, to meat and three. Highly recommend!

We were on the road and decided to stop for lunch before reaching our destination. After checking on Yelp for places close to where we were, we chose this place based on reviews. So glad we did. Small cozy place with paper menus loaded with yummy sounding offerings. Also, there were lots of items listed on a white board. I don't think I've ever seen so many sides offered. There had to have been at least 30---wish I had counted! We both chose sandwiches. Mine was pulled pork and as a side I chose Mac and cheese----I don't think I've ever chosen that before anywhere and I'm not sure why I did that day because it's not something I ever cook or eat. Whatever the reason, it was a fantastic choice for a side. It was so good and obviously homemade---cheesy, but not runny---perfect in my eyes. The sandwich was very good too. Nicely cooked pulled pork on a toasted bun with a thin layer of cole slaw. Husband had the BLT and he said it was the best he had had. It was loaded with bacon that was think and cooked perfectly. Neither of us have ever seen that much bacon in one sandwich. He chose potato salad as his side that was homemade and good too. Portions were more than ample---couldn't eat it all! Prices were very reasonable. Would love to go there again, but it is very far away from where we live.

Fried Boloney sandwich, omg it was fabulous, also had the fish and scallops with Limas and fried grits. You would think fried!!! But it was great and not grease. Oh my goodness the apple pie is enormous and good! The ice cream taste like old fashion vanilla.

Great Food! Super fresh seafood. All seafood can be ordered grilled or fried. Very delicious side dishes. My favorite black eye pea salad, and red rice. Good portions, very reasonable prices. The absolutely best ever Bread pudding. Kudos to the chef! Would recommend this place highly even to those who don't think they like southern country cuisine.

Aahh, it was okay. Typical southern lunch menu with liver and onions, okra, and country fried steak. Simple menu, laminated, with writing on it. It looked like it was going to be delicious and a great find. It was super busy, probably cause there isn't many restaurants in Ravenel. What was most disappointing was the mac n cheese was COLD. Mac n cheese cold just doesn't cut it.

We trucked out here for Father's Day brunch, and the food was the best part of the experience. It wasn't as far out on Hwy 17 as I thought it was going to be, and it is nestled in a pretty nondescript location right next to an O'Reilly's Auto Parts. The parking lot is sand and gravel for the most part, I guess that adds to the rural southern vibe (?). Inside it is a claustrophobic's nightmare. The tables are simply packed together, with varying sizes and heights making up the population. Must be a southern home type thing with the mismatched tables. Also, the A/C in this place simply does not cut the mustard. It was set to 77, but it was struggling to maintain 85. Not to mention they had the ceiling fans on backwards, and one of them was broken. There is one unisex bathroom for everyone. To the food... It was better than decent, but not something I have to return for on a weekly or even monthly basis. The majority of the menu is fried, although I was impressed with the amount of sides they offer. They are written up on the board along with the specials (no description, must be a down home southern thing, or is it "thang"?). We started with the fried pickles and the corn fritter/fried green tomato appetizers. The fried pickles were fine, they were crisp without losing all of the moisture of the pickle. My wife thought the tomatoes were "okay" and middle of the road for what she is used to. The corn fritter was really wonderful, fried to a crisp and cooked through, but moist on the inside. With chunks of corn and pepper inside, it is certainly something I would order again. Since we had a large party, there were a few different entrees ordered. I ordered the fried shrimp and scallops, because I completely forgot what a diet was for the day. Again, well done on the fryer, but I couldn't discern the shrimp and the scallops without breaking the crust. The crust was light and brown, but was also really one note after all of the other fried options we had so far. The slaw was decent, maybe a little to heavy handed with the mayo, and the red rice was better than 90% of the red rice I have had in SC. Wasn't dried out and had some tomato chunks in it to liven it up, although the ice cream scoop presentation was less than ideal. Wife had the grouper, and she actually ate more than a few bites, so a win there. Mother in law raved over the fried chicken, which looked alright and seemed to be popular among the other diners. The gravy that came with one of the sides looked like chocolate pudding, which was not so hot. Dessert was the bread pudding. It was good, but unusual in that the bread was so dense, it was almost as if I was eating pound cake. The caramel sauce used could have used something unusual to the liven it up, maybe bourbon would have worked? Or something else to not be so cliche? The servers were relatively prompt, somewhat curt, and definitely overwhelmed. Between the heat and the amount of people, let's just say I hope they were being tipped well. In summary, this is a place for the locals. They serve non-pretentious and competently prepared (mostly fried) foods, at a reasonable price point with portions trending toward generous. The atmosphere is late 1980s, with 1960s or earlier amenities. I'm sure the staff is more cordial when they aren't swamped. But this isn't a destination place, there are other places more local to me that do the same thing, at the same price, just as well.

I used to love eating here. The last three times I have been I have been very disappointed. A friend and I both had entrees that were so overcooked as to be inedible. They did take 25% off the bill so that was good, but I will not take the chance again.

After several successful lunch visits, we've decided to try the breakfast. It was average, at best. Eggs Benedict "special" - wasn't. I got boiled eggs, thin and watery hollandaise and the thinnest Canadian bacon I've ever seen. It came with under seasoned home fries and rancid canned mandarin oranges. The egg&cheese biscuit was OK, but Hardees biscuits are better. Corn beef hash was OK, didn't taste like it was made there. Reminded me of a good canned corn beef hash. Grits were awesome, rich and creamy. Service C+. Overall - disappointing. Based on the previous lunch services and food, I had a much higher expectations.

Delicious! We stopped here on a whim and I'm so glad we did. I had the crab cakes, and they were delicious! They came with a sauce that is slightly spicy -- nice touch. My husband had a shrimp po-boy that he enjoyed, too. Prices are very reasonable. We'll be back!

Found on Yelp and so glad we did. Driving from Charleston to St. Augustine and needed lunch. Clean friendly space, good service and allergy friendly. So many yummy choices it was hard to choose. Everything we ate was delicious and super value! Huge crab cake and 4 grilled scallops with 2 generous sides all for $12. That is the high end of the prices. Hubby's pulled pork was incredible with equally good green beans and fried corn for only $9. Not too often my husband and I and our 3 & 5 year old kids can all be so satisfied. Definitely go if you are passing by!

Delicious home-style cooking and good service. It's worth the drive from Charleston. Everything we had there was delicious. The menu has a nice selection and lots of different side dishes to choose from. I had the shrimp Po-boy sandwich and it was delicious.

This is a little bit of Heaven on the side of the highway. The decor is very simple, with butcher paper on top of the tables, but plenty of imagination goes into the food prep. Meals come with a tasty cornbread muffin and your choice from a list of two dozen sides. Luckily for me, one of the daily specials was Trout El Paso, prepared with fajita seasoning and topped with black bean and corn salsa. The dish was delicious. A previous Yelp reviewer was enthusiastic about the side of Brussels (shredded and stir fried with a bit of onion), so I tried that and was not disappointed. Service was fast and friendly. If I lived in the area, I would happily return repeatedly.

Incredible southern style food. Super friendly staff and chef. Even though the power went out after we ordered, they were able to make and serve our food with minimal delay. The fried green tomato Blt with jalapeño bacon and pimento cheese was our favorite! You must try the fried corn...incredible. We are vacationing on Edisto about 25 minutes away and will visit again this week. Worth the drive.

Amazing!!! I had a burger (hand pattied) with fried egg, bacon, and Swiss. AMAZING!!! Brussels on the side. INCREDIBLE! They are shredded and delicious! Service was fantastic! Waiting on warm bread pudding with house made caramel sauce. I'm sure it will...AMAZING!

This place makes me wish I could eat here three times a day, every day. Found on Yelp on way to Charleston. We are foodies and this place ROCKED the comfort food. Fast, friendly service, complemented by upbeat decor with a collection of owl figurines and inspirational phrases. But THE FOOD. Oh, the food. Hubby had pulled pork sammy with red sauce AND yellow sauce, he did halfsies. Neither of us Yankees had ever seen yellow before, evidently it's mustard based instead of vinegar based. Mmmmmmm. I had fried catfish that was spiritual - fresh and lightly cornmeal battered. Gawd!!!! We shared four sides: mashed taters with brown gravy, collard greens, Lima beans, and pickled beets. Could easily have eaten forty servings of each without guilt or regret. So absurdly DELICIOUS that I'm getting sad not being there right now. Nothing I tasted was anything but a foodgasm. Torn between getting more sides or a dessert, even though we were satiated by the healthy sized portions. Took a bread pudding to go - it's the classic homemade pan-style that comes out like a flan texture versus the commercialized "we crushed up some old stale cinnamon rolls and hid them in sugar sauce" crap you get other places. I'd become a diabetic if it meant I could have this dessert every day. PLEASE STOP READING AND GO EAT HERE!!!!

Decent food, and good service in a casual atmosphere. Harvest moon came highly recommended to us from a lady working nearby, and the timing was right to stop in as we were enroute to Charleston. The experience was fine, all around. Nothing wrong and nothing particularly noteworthy, except the service was really quite good. The sides were better than the entrees. The apple pie was quite good. We felt just a bit let down that the food wasn't better. The fried chicken was a bit dry. The pulled pork was good but not quite what it could have been, especially with how the place had been recommended. We aren't sorry that we went but probably wouldn't go back. Just a decent average place. When traveling in the South we want and expect just a bit more.

excellent meat and 3! also some other creative entrees and veggie plates. I would travel that way, just to go to them, and if you are down Ravenel way, they are convenient! Lousy wine selection, but that isn't their forte so just get a beer!

We were on our way from Beaufort to Charleston and wanted some good southern low country food. We were both thinking that some fried chicken would be good. I went to Yelp and the Harvest Moon Low Country Grille came up with good reviews so that's where we decided to stop. We were happy to see fried chicken on the menu. I ordered dark meat fried chicken and my husband decided to go with the quiche, it was the special of the day. Shortly after the waitress took our order she came back and said they no longer do dark meat friend chicken, only white meet friend chicken. I really don't care for white meat as it tends to be dry. I was very disappointed and decided to go with the fried shrimp. It was fabulous and my husband quiche was excellent. We saved room for the apple pie and all I can say is OMG! It was soooo good. If you don't normally eat dessert give in just this once. You will be happy you did. Overall the service was good and the waitress was friendly. This is definitely a great place place to grab some good southern food.

On a road trip from Hilton head to southport NC and checked out yelp for a nice lunch stop. Found it! Loved this nice little place conveniently located on 17. Great, friendly service by Megan. Summer salad with shrimp had more shrimp than greens....excellent. Crab cakes with two sides were huge and pretty meaty, wonderful flavor. Don't stop at a chain...try this nice local restaurant.

I was raised in the South, and was fed by my mama's cooking as well as her mama's. Their recipes evolved from the deep South, working up the coast from Mobile, & eventually migrating to Tuscaloosa Alabama. My mama would've loved this restaurant. The other day, on the way to Myrtle Beach, I had the fried scallops, and my partner had a shrimp Po boy. The scallops were the best i've ever had. They were just perfect... soft, succulent, juicy. The shrimp brought back memories of my youth in New Orleans. Today, on the way home, we Had to stop for lunch: Grouper Cheeks, Chicken Livers & Onions, wonderful sides. We had to try the Fried Corn (half a cob, rolled in flour), but the novelty wore off after the first nite. Everything else was consistently Wonderful -especially the shrimp gumbo! Stuffed with tomatoes and okra and just a little chunk of corn here and there, it reminded me of my youth.... If you're anywhere near this little Gem, don't miss it!

We found this place by accident on a trip to Charleston. The fried oysters and collard greens were among some of the best I have ever had. This little roadside cafe is excellent. I rarely give 5 stars unless it is someplace I would make a point of visiting again. If in the area I am definitely going to Harvest Moon.

Great place!! On our way back into Charleston, my boyfriend and I were starving and decided to patronize this little joint. We typically don't go out to Ravenel at all, but we needed a hot meal and stat. Not only were we delightfully surprised at the fact they served beer and wine (and that it wasn't just Bud Light and Coors) but also at the steady (but not too crowding) amount of customers, their massive list of sides including everything from collards, bacon ranch salad, and fried okra to bacon cheese fries, red rice, and hushpuppies (and everything in between), and lastly, how incredibly sweet and sociable our server was. She was an eclectic young lady who checked on us just enough to let us know she was there if we needed her. The atmosphere is bright and cheery with cute little words and wooden signs up everywhere. The oysters and shrimp are local catches and they have paper tablecloths with crayons at every table!!! (A HUGE plus for those adults who love to tap into their inner child every now and again) Food was pretty darn good, live music was entertaining and not too overbearing, and overall it was an outstanding place right outside Chucktown. My guy and I will DEFINITELY be making the 20 minute drive from West Ashley to frequent this place more often :-)

I love diner food and often order turkey because I rarely have it at home. Yesterday, hungry for lunch while travelling north on US-17 toward Charleston, I stopped at the Harvest Moon and roast turkey was one of their specials at $8. I asked for dark meat which came with cornbread stuffing, cranberry sauce and collards. ~~Delicious~~ Probably the best I've ever had in a restaurant. I would even serve it for Christmas dinner if only I lived closer. The turkey was remarkably juicy and tasted like turkey should, the stuffing was really good as was the gravy and the seasoned greens were nicely cooked (not grey and boiled to death). The meal was enormous so I had the left-overs boxed and also ordered a piece of Boston cream pie which reminded me, that evening, of how much I used to enjoy this "pie" as a child. Service was professional and smooth -- thank you Adrienne.

My wife and I eat here at least 2 to 3 times a month. We have NEVER had a bad experience. You must try their daily soup. I must have tried over 50 of their soups and have always been glad I ordered the soup. The jambalaya is the best I have had anywhere. You will not get a better meal for the money. The staff and owners are so nice and caring.

YUMMY! This place is rockin' awesome...my boyfriend and I have such counter-active tastes in restaurants that we always keep going back and forth about what and where to eat in the Charleston area; what a fantastic happy medium we found at Harvest Moon! We stopped here around 7pm as we were heading to Beaufort to catch a drive-in. The place is adorable: clean and fresh with cute knick-knacks, mason jar drinking glasses, and brown paper tablecloths. He ordered the steak; I got a few veggies, and neither of us were able to speak a word until we were done (a good thing!). Afterwards, we decided to try something a little different and order dessert for a change. He got the apple pie, and I got the bread pudding. My bread pudding cost $2.50, but his apple pie cost double..."why so much?" we wondered...and then it came... LORD HAVE MERCY; we didn't expect to be tasting the BEST apple pie to ever grace BOTH of our mouths COMBINED! It was something out of a dessert-induced dream...in fact, BF commented that it was even better than his celebrated great aunt's apple pie, and that's nothing to sneeze at! Flaky, buttery, delicate, sweet, succulent, fresh, saucy, and topped with a generous scoop of cinnamon-y ice cream...that stuff's worth the trip all by itself! Okay, so they have a bunch of veggies and no "veggie plate" option, the service was a tad sluggish, and the bread pudding was a bit dry, but no biggie! Considering the fact that BF and I have finally stumbled upon an affordable place to eat that serves great food and keeps a friendly staff, Harvest Moon is doing way better than most more expensive places we've tried. We will most certainly be back.

Stopped here with our family on the way out of town. You can tell when a restaurant cares about the food they put out. We had an array of brunch dishes-and all were delicious--from eggs and grits, to meat and three. Highly recommend!

When we recently visited Charleston, our friends suggested meeting here for dinner. We LOVED this place! Super kid friendly with their menu and the paper table clothes & crayons but adult friendly enough that it could qualify for Date Night. Great service. Delish food. We'll be back!

excellent meat and 3! also some other creative entrees and veggie plates.

Enjoy!
