Decided to check out Red Orchids China Bistro for lunch one Saturday. The location is kind of offsetting, but don't let that fool you! When you walk in, you def don't feel like you're in a worn down strip mall. The staff was friendly and made you feel welcome in the restaurant. We each ordered a soup for an appetizer and then our lunch entrees. Both the soup and the entrees were large portions for lunch! I ended up taking half home to eat for dinner that evening. The flavors were great. The sesame chicken was delicious. They are large pieces of chicken with not a lot of breading (like some places that offer it). The fried rice wasn't that great, though. It was basically just white rice covered in sauce. There were no vegetables, it wasn't "fried" and just tasted like soy sauce/salt. My husband had the vegetables with brown sauce and chicken. It was so yummy. His white rice was cooked perfectly. I would recommend this restaurant if you are in the mood for Chinese food. Their prices are reasonable, especially for lunch and the portion sizes!!

Had lunch here today and had chicken with garlic sauce ( a little too sweet), my wife had Mongolian pork (great). In the past I've had the chicken curry (great). The food was really great! Service was excellent, we've had the same waitress both times and she's super friendly and nice. The ambiance was very cool and comfortable. More than I expected being in a strip mall. The food is definitely more sophisticated than your typical strip mall Chinese restaurant. They are doing it RIGHT! If you want good Chinese at a GREAT price, this is it! Food- 4 stars Service- 5 stars Atmosphere- 4 Stars Value- 5 stars

Wait, what? Random chinese place in a shopping mall that is churning out some awesome food with an equally awesome selection of wine and a bar that is stocked. There's more to this place than meets the eye. Yes, they have all your favorite American/Chinese dishes, but you need to scratch below the service. What's Chef Tony up to? What's special today? What is the crazy sauce? Can I try it? Tony is doing some awesome stuff here.

This 3 star rating has nothing to do with the food, or even the service we received. My friend visited this place years ago, and recommended that we give it a go because she remembered enjoying the food. I am hardly in that part of West Ashley, so I never even heard of this place until the night that we went, but I love Asian cuisine so why not. The restaurant is very small and cozy with mood lighting. It is clean and simple. The food was light, filling and made great left overs. Upon arrival, I was greeted promptly, and the waiter was professional, friendly and prompt to both my friend and I. But there is a but, and after reading some of the yelp reviews of this place, I see that some share this owners bias. I didnt even notice this until after we walked out of the restaurant, but on the front window is a note to the public in capital letters: "NO BUFFET. NO PUBLIC BATHROOM" I get the no public bathroom bit. In this shopping center, all right next to one another or within reasonable walking distance is a large grocery store and 2 large department stores. To walk into a small restaurant and ask to use the bathroom doesn't make sense. Actually, I highly doubt this happens. This area/shopping center is residential and doesnt have heavy foot traffic. To bypass a grocery store and department stores, for this tiny restaurant to use the restroom is unlikely, but that doesnt matter. Why the NO BUFFET sign? Do you really get an overwhelming number of people who walk into your restaurant and ask you "Is this a buffet?", or is this more of a preventative measure? Are you just trying to weed out customers who may be used to, or dog forbid, just enjoy Asian cuisine at a buffet or to go? You dont want those customers, so you put a sign on the door telling them this is not a buffet so keep on walking? Even if people did walk into the restaurant and ask you whether this place was a buffet, which I highly doubt, why not use this as an opportunity to gain new customers in the future, or introduce them to your menu? Honestly, I was offended when I saw this note. Its obnoxious, its classist, and it definitely changed the air of this restaurant for me.

You know that saying, "aim low and overachieve?" That's not what I did here. I went in this place with such high expectations. I mean, I know it's just chinese food, but it's gotten so much recognition, I was prepared to have my socks knocked off. They weren't. We went on a Friday night around 8pm. They weren't busy and we were seated immediately. The waiter was nice, but didn't really have his timing of everything down. He got us some water, then brought us a cocktail menu and took our food order at the same time. No less than 4 minutes later, the food was delivered to our table, and we had yet to even order our drinks. It led me to believe that the food was just sitting in the back, prepared and waiting to be scooped onto a plate and put in front of us. (The sign out front says "no buffet," but I think the buffet is actually in the back, and they just serve us from it! ) We ordered the cocktails shortly after the food arrived, but we each had about 2 bites of food left by the time they arrived. When they did, both of them mostly tasted like fruit juice, and seemed like we were paying for some non-existent alcohol in them, at $9 a pop. We finished our food and then had to sit for 10 minutes while we finished our drinks, which was weird. We ended up leaving before finishing them, because they weren't that good to begin with. The food was OK---not nearly as good as I expected it to be because of all the hype. So, with mediocre food, and service that was prompt, although somewhat disorganized, I won't be trekking from downtown to West Ashley to eat here again anytime soon.

I love coming here for lunch. No matter what I get it is always good. Some times Chef Tony will have this spicy soy sauce that is totally amazing. It just depends on the season. All the food here is fresh and the service is very good. This is no buffet here it is all FRESH. The front of the building looks a bit unremarkable but once you walk in the place looks good. The portions are very large. I typically don't eat it all and take some home. If you want some Asian American food that has a bit of a twist then check it out. the BEST General Tso's you could think of. If your are West Ashley and want to have some great food then stop by you will not regret it.

We went here for lunch and I really liked it. I had the sauteed green beans with shrimp, fried rice, and a vegetable spring roll. Everything came out really fast and was delicious, with great portions as well (I had leftovers). Green beans aren't usually an exciting food, but these are cooked in a delicious brown sauce with the shrimp. The shrimp are big and plentiful as well. My meal was a part of the lunch special and only $8.50. Red Orchid has a great menu for lunch, with set prices based on the protein you want and various dishes. For the vegetarians, tofu is available as a protein option. All of the lunch specials come with a spring roll. The restaurant is in a strip mall with dollar stores and a gym, but when you walk in, it has a great atmosphere and seems like a fancier restaurant than what you'd expect from the location. So- don't let the location turn you off.

I found this place by looking up "Best Chinese in Charleston" and I have to say I'm very disappointed. I think they do very well with their spring rolls and other rolled items. I tried the Generals Chicken, trying to stay on the safe side for my first visit, and it was almost inedible. The chicken was very dry and overcooked to eat, and my rice was undercooked and crunchy! The service was great and he was very attentive and funny, but overall I wouldn't say this is the BEST chinese food in Charleston!

This is in an unremarkable strip mall/ plaza but it's pretty good. Nice decor and a step above the typical take out- though similar fare. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here again, but everyone at our table enjoyed our meals. We tried the steamed veggie dumplings and money bags and we liked them both. The veggie steamed buns weren't very flavorful but fair enough. I got the buddha buddha vegetarian dish with tofu and it was good. The portions were good and everyone left full. They did have some trouble with our cards, swiping them twice, and made some awkward jokes. I appreciate the effort, but it was getting to the point where we just wanted it done. Overall, I think this is a nice sit down option when you want chinese but don't want crappy take out.

My first time to Red Orchids and I was torn between a 3 and 4 star mainly b/c of how the experienced ended but I am opting for the 4 since, 1 - I just realized why the evening ended the way it did, 2 - I'll go back, 3 - my friends love this place, and 4 - it was my friend's B-day so we made the experience ourselves earn another star. With six in our party we got there at 8PM and ordered a number of apps and meals. I tried the crab wonton and money bag. The spring roll wraps around the money bag is extremely crispy and tasty and the ginger sauce is great. The actual pork meat ball inside was really dry for my taste. The crab wonton was the flavor I'm looking for in a good crab wonton. Crispy with the warm cheese filling then dipped in a traditional sweet and sour sauce. Always a favorite app for me when eating Chinese food. For my meal I opted for their Shanghai Fettuccini b/c it sounded fun and definitely is not something I would make at home. My friend said it was her favorite dish there, so I was even more excited. The list of ingredients to accompany the noodles included "ground pork, diced broccoli, bell pepper, string beans, mushrooms, and cilantro in a zesty yet peppery spice". If you take a look at the pic I posted, those other ingredients were far and few between. When I did get a bite of noodles with some cilantro it was very satisfying, but a lot of the bites I had were all noodle and nothing else. I would have really preferred more veg, less noodles. I ate about a third and brought the rest home and plan to re-heat and add more veggies! The gin fizz was great, our server was nice and I will definitely go back to try a rice dish, and some of the lighter options like the egg drop soup and lettuce wrap. So after paying and getting our fortune cookies we sat and chatted for a few more minutes. The entire staff disappeared and went to the back. We were left alone out front for a while and I was really confused when I yelled back to say bye, still no one came back out or replied. Turns out we're the rude ones! I just went and looked at their hours and they close at 9!!! I had no idea they closed at 9 and it was almost 10 when we left. No wonder they were all in back. They wanted us to get the BLEEP out of there so they could go home!

This place has nothing too fancy or out of the ordinary. It's your typical Chinese food place, EXCEPT they are super unaccommodating and pretentious. Any Asian place should be able to add eggs to their plain fried rice for a small extra cost. It's so simple to do, but the hostess asked her boss (I was getting carry out), and the boss said really loudly (not even looking at me, mind you), "Any time you change or add something it's $6-7 dollars because of the extra work involved." Really? To crack one or two eggs into your fried rice? Won't be coming back here anymore.

Red Orchids is a solid restaurant for Chinese food. It's located in a shopping center wedged in between Big Lots and Burlington Coat Factory. Once you get inside, it's pleasantly tranquil with a dark moody atmosphere. Most of the entrées I have tried are really well done with a healthy twist. For instance, General Choo (Tso) is lightly breaded with huge chunks of white meat. The Pepper Steak and Onions is really good as the green and red peppers are still crunchy. Other noteworthy mentions include the Shanghai Fettuccini (entrée) and the Money Bags (app). If you are looking for a sit down Chinese restaurant, give this place a shot. You won't be disappointed.

I'm not sure why this restaurant is so highly rated. I feel bad for this review already, only bc the ppl were so nice, which is the only reason they got 2 stars. We got the sampler platter-everything was extremely overcooked to say the least. General chu's chicken-giant balls of dry boneless skinless chicken-the sauce was the only decent quality there. We also got the sweet and sour chicken for our boys(which took a couple bites and said no thank you)-it was like purchasing breaded chicken strips from the freezer section in a supermarket and frying them. Again, the sweet and sour sauce was good. The fried rice was brown looking flavorless, clumpy muck. Worst I've ever had. The white rice was yellowish appeared old and was also clumpy. We threw 60% of our food in the trash...and what we didn't throw away is now sitting on my mid section like a 3 month along Chinese baby pregnancy from all the sodium. So so so disappointed and beginning to think there is no good Chinese food in Charleston. We will not be eating here again. And I also forgot to mention very small portion sizes for the high price you pay. There was absolutely no value there especially since we threw most of it away.

On January 21, 2015 Zulfiqar K., Shannon M., and I, Dante G., responded to the Red Orchids Chinese Bistro located at 1401 Sam Rittenburg Boulevard in reference to lunch. We entered through the door on the A-side of the building and were seated centrally in the restaurant. I immediately noticed another table that was occupied by several CCSO personnel. Seems to be a popular spot. Sadly, I remember nothing about the food. It was good and I would like to go again, but I waited to long to do this review. :( End of Report.

I consider this place tied with Dragon Palace for quality, taste and presentation, and switch between the two places when I want the most delicious Chinese food. Chinese bistro style- no buffet. I love the tangerine chicken dish. Yes this restaurant is in a strip mall but still way better then the typical buffet or mall style food. Full bar, love the cyanotype photos on the walls. Super friendly waitstaff.

My office is located within a few miles from Red Orchid, so stopping by for lunch when I can is a real treat! I love that I can always count on friendly service and a delicious meal at a very reasonable price. The spring rolls are amazing and every other dish I have tried has been made with fresh and tasty ingredients. The hot and sour soup is another one of my favorites, and they definitely don't hold back on quantity! A bowl of soup for lunch is perfect, especially on a chilly, rainy day! Don't overlook this little bistro----It is wonderful!

The trips to Red Orchid have been numerous and I cannot recall a single visit being less than sublime. I know what you're thinking, "what? sit down Chinese?" Yes, silly. Now put down your fried chicken and okra and live a little, this is a true gem in the sea of Charleston southern comfort cooking. It is our lone, step up from take-out Chinese, and it is delicious. I lovelovelove Red Orchid. The pancits, the tangerine chicken, the sesame chicken or shrimps, the anything really. Everything I've had has been delicious and the service is prompt. Prices are reasonable and plates are a good size. My only gripe is that the seating is a bit odd and you can easily nose into a stranger neighbor's conversation without even trying, you're that close. Still, I don't even mind.

Had dinner at this location 6-21-15. We were sat in a section were the waiter was tied up with a wine presentation for like ten minutes. About seven minutes in another waiter finally came over with waters for us. When our waiter came over he took our order and it took like 15 mins for our app to come out. Which was okay. Then food came out after and they brought us extra plates for some strange reason and they took up most of the space we had on our little two person table. My food was normal my husbands food sesame chicken was too big of bites and wasn't battered completely. Our waiter was nice. You can feel every step any makes in your chair. Our rice came out like five mins after entrees because they ran out or got behind? Plus no one besides the waiter thanked us for eating there. Won't be coming back.

Definitely the best Chinese in West Ashley. The appetizers are all delicious. I highly recommend the money bags, the lettuce wraps, the dumplings, and the crab wontons. I've never had a bad entree there, although my favorites are the tangerine chicken, the general chu's, the sesame chicken, and singapore pancits. The only thing I don't love is the fried rice. But everything else is so good, it doesn't even matter!

Have been here a handful of times in the last year and it has been great everytime, but my last visit everything thing that could go wrong did. Wouldn't be so dissapointed but there was no management to even help the situation out or the actual owner that was sitting at bar didn't notice anything but his cell phone and his buddy at the bar. As I asked why there was no management or why do I still have to pay for a the mess ups I got told by the server "but I have to pay for the food I put in wrong. Being in the business I have never heard of an employee having to pay for a mess up. Seems kind of inappropriate for an owner to ask for that. Get it together you were the only great restraunt of your kind in the area now I have to search for another place to dine as I am scared to come and dine there now

We have tried this place before but decide to try it again to see if it was going to be a better experience. The place is clean and dimly lit. Nice mood lighting even for lunch. The staff was friendly and very accommodating even though the waiter didn't laugh when I made a joke. I'm pretty funny. Now to the food. The dumplings had a dark look to them which I usually associate with a dimpling that is not fresh. I was surprised to taste that it had a good flavor especially when paired with the dumpling sauce. I got the Wonton soup as my appetizer. So glad that it wasn't just the dumplings put into a soup. The Wonton was square and tightly wrapped. It was the same meat and flavor as the dumplings but not as heavy. So it added nicely to the lightness of the soup. For our main entrée I had the Sesame Chicken and Danny had the Hunan Chicken "spicy". My meal literally had 6 giant chicken meatballs! They were fried white breast meatballs. Did I mention the giant chicken meatballs! I love to eat Chinese food with chopsticks but those meatballs were not having it. Danny specifically asked for his dish to be hot. It was not. It did look delicious and very compatible with chopsticks. He said it had a good flavor bit world have rather spent the money at any other restaurant. As I was uploading my pics I realized of all things I forgot to takes picture of. I forgot to take pics of the ginormous chicken meatballs!

Three words - Chicken Lettuce Wrap - I literally can't get enough.. Their special peanut sauce beats any other similar recipe! I've tried many chicken lettuce wraps in my day, and I have to say Red Orchid takes home the prize. Friendly knowledge staff, who doesn't mind sending me home with an extra peanut sauce in my to-go bag. Thank you, you generous human; these special meals make my day!

I'm not really understanding the hype about this place, its not very good. I was in the area, and decided to get lemon shrimp and sesame shrimp with fried rice for takeout. The lemon shrimp was cooked too long,it was so chewy! The sauce has an OK flavor and it says it comes with red peppers and I thought they would be slices but they were so tiny and cooked that it was like they weren't even there. The sesame shrimp was fried regularly, which did not suit the sauce, but it was a little better than the lemon shrimp. The fried rice was bland and greasy. Overall, would not come back, I'll stay downtown for my Asian food!

Do not let the strip mall fool you, Red Orchid is delicious! The wonton soup is simply delicious and the cup is just as big as most restaurants bowls. They definitely don't skimp on the amount of wontons the drop in either. My favorites are the chicken lettuce wraps and the Mongolian Beef.

2nd time there. Not exciting. I asked for no mushrooms in my Hunan chicken. Was told no problem we cook on order. Guess what was in my Hunan chicken? However, place is clean, food,is good. I was told that the chicken was hot and if that was ok. Prices are ok also. I was given one drink free due to my small issue, good move. All in all, I will go,again. Better than most places like this. FrankG

First off, this place is hidden, in a strip mall area and from the parking lot, a "Hmmmm, I'm not so sure about this" type. Forget all of that and go inside! Hidden treasure, folks! It's clean, warm and has inviting decor. My wife and I decided to visit for the first time last night - Halloween night. The place was eerily decked out, the staff was in costume, and the music playlist contained the good rock and roll with creepy undertones (Don't Fear the Reaper, Werewolves of London, Rock Lobster, etc.) Now for the food: Amazing!!! FINALLY! A Non-Buffet, sit down and ORDER FROM A MENU Chinese restaurant! The only thing that bummed me out was that we hadn't heard of this place until now! The special Halloween cocktail menu was to die for. Get it? Very interesting and "cutting-edge" in the ingredients. Infusions, special syrups and herb flavorings... wonderful and delicious. We split an order of lumpia (5 large rolls) and each had a cup of egg drop soup. You can tell that things are freshly made and not from a bag/can. Yum. My wife had the sesame chicken with HUGE pieces of chicken (too big for her liking, but not for mine). The chicken was tender and moist. The sweet/sour sauce was fantastic. I couldn't decide, and I ended up ordering the Korean Beef (via a suggestion from our AWESOME waitstaff, Nicki) and it was the best I've ever tried. Tender beef, smoky, charred, sweet, sesame... very, very good. The rice that accompanies dishes along these lines never seems to get the attention it deserves. It's usually the round, ice cream scooper version that takes some fork work to break up, and get to your plate. Not here. Yes, ice cream scooper shape, but perfectly cooked, tender and fluffy. Funny how the rice rarely gets the proper treatment and goes unnoticed, until you actually come across good rice. :) For dessert, homemade ice cream. Yes, the real deal. I make a darned good homemade ice cream, if I do say so myself, so I know the real deal when I taste it. When the fat from the heavy cream coats your cold spoon, and you can feel it on your lips after a few bites, you know it's the good stuff! It's ice cream - so if you're wanting something "healthy", go grab a sorbet or something. I had ice cream "shots" (which are shareable). I tried Lychee berry, coconut and the "seasonal" special, which was honey bourbon with a caramel swirl. All were so good. My wife had a scoop of traditional green tea and it was fabulous. We kept hearing about the "she" in the kitchen. "She" makes the organic homemade ice cream, "she" made the main courses. I'm guessing that "she" is the owner?! Not sure, but between the knowledgeable and friendly staff, amazing food and great drinks, "she" will be seeing us again soon and often.

Not bad but not my favorite asian in the area. I like my chinese food to not be so heavily covered in a pool of liquid, I opt for it to be more lightly sauced, just a preference. The Lumpia was not too flavorful.

Some great chinese food. The garlic shrimp is fantastic!!! My husband loves the General Chu's chicken. Unfortunately the fried rice is quite bland but one of the owners, Tony, more than makes up for it. He's hysterical and makes an awesome drink!

My best bud wanted an oriental fix.. So we wondered in...she had had take out from this spot and thought it was okay. We were seated quickly... she pondered over the menu...sesame chicken caught her eye... I just ordered an unsweetened tea...ha... Had no taste...she ordered sweet tea...and asked for something else...she said it tasted like sugar water... When her food arrived I giggled..BIG...only 2 pieces of broccoli wee ones...she was offered fried rice...haha got white rice fried in only soy sauce THAT WAS It! Chicken was uniform round...as looking frozen prebreaded... then fried... swimming in a sauce she said was like bland...her entire plate was Brown ugly...with sesame seeds sprinkled upon...with 2 wee green broccoli on one side......she could not finish... Service was good...atmosphere boring...Will not return...

Imagine your run of the mill Chinese food. Got it? That's what this is. Will there be fried egg rolls and sweet and sour sauce? Will there be that thinly sliced braised chicken and baby corn? Yes! Typical and uninspired, but not bad, per-se. The up charge for whole grain brown rice was pretty unnecessary, I thought. Service was really good, quick, and the place was clean. I think next time I want really typical Chinese food, I'll just call it in.

Easily one of the best sit down Chinese restaurants in town. In fact, I will say that it is the best. I especially like going there for lunch, when you can get some high quality Chinese grub (I usually get the sesame or general's chicken - it's all white meat) for a really good bargain (~$8). Dinners are a little more expensive ($12-$15), but that is to be expected. In the nearly 2 years that I've been going to Red Orchid, their staff & food has been EXTREMELY consistent; which says a lot about how a restaurant is run. I don't think I can remember a less than excellent experience here. A top notch restaurant all around. Protip: Tangerine Chicken...try it.

Went today for lunch, it was terrific! We got spring rolls, potsticker, money bags and pork fried rice. Everything was really good. The place got pretty busy while we were there and all the entrees we saw looked awesome. Service was excellent and the place was very clean. Looking forward to our next trip to try some of the other things on the menu.

I love Red Orchids. It is our go-to for Chinese food in West Ashley. If you can look past the fact that it is located in a strip mall next to a gym and a Big Lots, you will walk inside and think you're in a fancy place. The servers are friendly, the food is great, and sometimes there is even a piano player. We get the crab wontons, fried dumplings, tangerine beef or chicken, and fried rice. There are other choices that are great, too, but those are the defaults. Very happy every time I go.

The best Chinese food in Charleston. Locally owned and a "must visit" for Charleston. The food is fresh and they have live Jazz music some evenings. This place is clean and lit dimly to offer a romantic feel even though it is rather small. It can get a bit loud but it has never been "too much" for me. They offer food TOGO and have a great bar. I have yet to have a poor experience and can't get over the food. Tangerine chicken (I like to get it extra spicy) and the Koran Streak are my two favorites! I hope you enjoy!

Best Chinese food in Charleston! Understand this is real order off the menu, not a buffet. So it is nice to find a wide selection of choices, and to have the appetizers and entrees made fresh to order. My suggestion, try something new. We have visited 2 times now and enjoyed many new items. We were very pleased with the food and service, we have been on Saturday nights and find the restaurant gets filled up with many customers. The service staff was attentive, and very friendly both nights. Our server also gave good suggestions and explained her favorites. Don't let the location deter you, it is worth the trip, even from Mt. Pleasant. Overall we had good service and enjoyed delicious food. Our appetizers were crab wontons, lumpia, money beg, and steamed dumplings. Then we enjoyed entrees of honey glazed walnut shrimp, Korean steak, Indonesian curry pasta, and sesame shrimp...all just so good! Check out the Red Orchids and try some good Chinese food.

Growing up in the northeast, I was surprised by the lack of decent Chinese places in Charleston so I was excited when I read the reviews for this place but have to admit I was disappointed. Now, that's not to say I thought the place was bad. On the contrary, the food was pretty good. It just was not worth all of the 5 star reviews it's getting in my opinion. But again, it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of competition for them around here so maybe it's just a matter of relativity. It's located in a strip mall, which isn't uncommon at all for Chinese joints so I don't fault them for that like some reviewers inexplicably seem to. Once you get inside, it's pretty nice. Decor is relatively minimalist but it has some oriental touches and it's very clean and comfortable. I ordered a plate of dumplings and General Tso's chicken which they just call "General" on their menu. The dumplings were very good. They were well steamed, not overly doughy and were filled generously. The chicken, which they serve in balls, was good but not great. It didn't really have the spice that you expect from General Tso's and although most pieces were cooked very well I had a couple that were kind of dry. The fried rice that came with the chicken was underwhelming. It came plain with nothing in it and was kind of bland. They threw 3 very tiny pieces of broccoli on the side of the plate which weren't bad but weren't particularly good either. Didn't taste fresh. Finally there was a spring roll served with the chicken but it was also sort of bland. It tasted and looked like they put nothing but cabbage inside it. I see that other people have mentioned portion size, but while you'll certainly get more at some cheaper Chinese take-out places I found the value to be solid. My lunch was a little over $20 including a beer and I was full when I left, so that's not too bad IMO. This place is good for what it is, which is a highly Americanized Chinese restaurant that puts out better food than you might expect from a place sandwiched in between a Big Lots and a Burlington Coat Factory. If I was craving Chinese take-out, I'd probably go with Red Orchid. But again, being the best Chinese place in Charleston sadly doesn't make them worthy of 4 or 5 stars right now.

Great prices for lunch. We had Hunan Chicken, The General, and Lettuce Wraps as an appetizer. All 3 were fresh and full of flavor. The lunch items even came with a lumpia roll (smaller than an egg roll) that was also very good. All in all, it was a great value.

By far, the best Chinese food in the city! Chicken broccoli w/their brown sauce is amazing! Food always comes out hot and fresh! Servers know the menu very well and one of the owners appear to always be on hand. You can't go wrong by visiting Red Orchids!

The wait staff was very knowledgable. I had the tangerine chicken, gf! It was breaded in a rice flour base and I had a side order of broccoli to cut the sweetness of the dish. It was delicious! The piano player also added to the wonderful dining experience as well. Definitely will return on my next visit to area.

We are a bit biased when it comes to Asian food as Hawaii has a rich and diverse culture. The simple fact is, that if you want traditional Chinese food--not Americanized, buffet pseudo-Chinese--in this area, just make it yourself. We went into Red Orchid on a Saturday for a late lunch. It was not all that busy and the server was friendly. We ordered the money bags (aka Chinese Nut Sacks). They were so deep-fat fried crispy that they were literally painful to eat. The won ton soup was nothing exciting. The won ton was okay, but the broth tasted liked watered down canned broth. The sesame chicken was very dry and might as well have been frozen chicken nuggets slathered in hyper-HFCS duck sauce. This might be voted the best Chinese restaurant in Charleston, but that isnt saying much.

I had high hopes after reading the positive reviews online. However, it is located in a shady shopping center with low-key businesses. I wasn't thrilled about leaving my car in the parking lot. The food was descent, but nothing spectacular. Also, I found the portions to be small and the prices were on the high side for the quality. I wasn't impressed.

The food was a step above Chinese take out. Service was very attentive and pleasant. We had the money bags - meatballs wrapped in won ton skins and deep fried, general's chicken and Sichuan beef. The beef I asked for with green beans instead of celery and was up charged. Such is life.

Love, love, love this place. The korean beef was to die for. The staff was lovely- Tony is awesome. We will definitely be back.

Absolutely one of the best Chinese food in the Low-country competing with Dragon Palace over on Daniel Island! You'll be pleasantly greeted and sat. All the food her is delicious and authentic. The black pepper beef, tangerine chicken, and for dessert a spicy chocolate chipotle homemade ice-cream are things I recommend! I've been here about 7 times now. A little more on the pricey side for Chinese but the food and atmosphere are great!

I don't know why I waited so long to review this place, but it is one of my favorite restaurants in Charleston. Like the name suggests, it's a BISTRO. Not the typical Chinese restaurants everyone thinks of. IMO, there are 3 types of Chinese places: Traditional and authentic mom n pop venue where English is a second language and most of the menu is steamed, lightly fried, or fresh--unattractive, yet delicious; then theres the cheap greasy americanized places that think adding soy sauce to anything makes it Chinese; then there are the fusion types that base their recipes off traditional dishes and add ingredients that Americans are familiar with, and make them look appetizing. Red Orchids is the latter. The Ambiance is cozy and intimate. The owners and staff are super friendly and the food is delicious. The menu features different asian dishes, not just Chinese. If this is your first time, I suggest the Tangerine Chicken. If you hate it, you probably ate a rind piece and not the chicken, otherwise you're crazy. It's Amazeballs. The Korean style steak is another favorite of ours. It's not traditional bulgogi (hence the name Korean style) but it has similar flavors at a better consistency Lol. The lumpia is soOoo good, but it's not what traditional lumpia tastes like. I'm filipina, and I've had it 27154636381826 times in my life...maybe even more. Red Orchids twist on it is different, and I like it. Their House fried rice could be a meal in itself and their featured wines have never let me down. There are other items on the menu I would love to try, but my cravings for what I know I already love are too strong.

We went there on Christmas eve. The decor is soothing and our waiter a really really nice and accomodating young man. We are "special" vegetarians i.e. no eggs, onions, garlics or mushrooms. Now go with this to a typical Chinese place, and you will be lucky to get a decent dish. But here they readily customized their Lo-Mein and Kung Pao Tofu to our requirements. The waiter was gracious to apologize several times for the delay in our custom order, but the wait was well worth while. The food was fabulous. Highly recommended!!

For the best Chinese food west of the Ashley, you can't beat Red Orchid. The cuisine at this bistro is so much better than the typical take-out fare. The service is great too. Enjoy!

Those people who didn't give a four or five star are crazy. The prices are good considering the portions and great quality of food! The curry is amazing and crab wontons flavorful. I go here about once a month as a treat for myself. Oh... The pianist is a nice touch! Love!

The other night my husband and I came across this little bistro while looking for a place to have dinner. At first when we saw it, it looked like a cheap little Chinese joint but, boy, were we wrong! We walked in and were immediately seated at the window after being given the option. After about a minute of looking at the menu our waitress came over with glasses of water and to take our drink orders. My husband ordered a sweet tea, and when we got it it was unlike any other tea we've tried. It has a wonderful herbal flavor! We then ordered our appetizers. We got the Lumpia, which are fried spring rolls filled with beef and vegetables, served with a sweet and sour sauce. These were fantastic! The flavor wasn't overpowering and they were small and crisp. We then ordered our entrees. He ordered the Tangerine Chicken and I ordered the General Chu's Chicken. The tangerine chicken was AMAZING! Hands down some of the BEST orange/tangerine/sweet and sour chicken (whatever you want to call it) I've ever had. The General Chu's is also very good too. It's just a little spicy and they are served as large balls that need to be cut up to eat. With the entree they serve you with your choice of fried or white rice (for a dollar more you can get the special brown rice). He got the white and I got the fried. I recommend the white because the fried is just a little too salty. They give you a fair portion of rice too. For the desert I HAD to try the Ginger Ice cream. They make their own homemade (restaurant made?) ice cream. They serve the ice cream in shot glasses ($2) and also in two scoop servings ($5.95). I was NOT disappointed. The ice cream was fantastic and just thinking about it makes me want more! The atmosphere and service were great! I love this place and I can't wait to go again!

I've heard good things about this restaurant and of course the Yelp reviews are solid so I was thrilled when my best friend picked this place of the three options I gave her. We went for dinner at the Red Orchid Bistro last night. We arrived around 6pm and our waiter's name was Tim. He was FANTASTIC and the food was DELICIOUS! Before we were even done with our dinner we were already planning on "the next time". I had to order the money bags because they'd been mentioned numerous times in reviews and my friend ordered the lettuce wraps. While the money bags were good, I wasn't blown away and will order something different next time. Now the lettuce wraps?? That's a different story. SO GOOD! That will be a "must order" for sure. For our entrees we ordered the Korean beef and the Tangerine chicken. Again it was due to the numerous mentions in reviews. My friend *almost* ordered the lemon grass beef but chickened out at the last minute and went with the Korean beef (which is what I intended to order). We were both very pleased with both of our dishes and the fried rice. Everything was sublime but I promise you the next time I will be getting the Korean beef... my mouth is watering just thinking about it! We also split the 7 layer chocolate cake based on the encouragement of a neighboring diner. It was VERY rich and the ganache between layers was ooooohhhhh so good. My friend thought the cake part was too soft but if you are a choc-o-holic, you'll enjoy it. I think next time I'll try one of their ice creams as they had a whole array of interesting flavors like chocolate & cayenne or vanilla & black pepper. At about 7-7:30 some live music started and it does get loud but we loved the whole atmosphere. Can't wait to return!

I honestly dont understand the rave reviews. I went with expectations based on the reviews and didn't care about its "sketchy" location. The food was mediocre american chinese, we had lettuce wrap that were really simple and bland, and the potstickers which were like heavy dumplings. The other food was completely forgetable, bland and boring. I wanted to like this place, but was stunned at how poor the food was. It almost made me mad. I will say the service was great and the ice cream was worth the trip. Sorry I will try this restaurant again, and order different items.

Best Chinese in Charleston, but mainly because it's the only Chinese in Charleston. I always get a chuckle walking into this place and seeing the sign on the door notifying patrons that it is not a buffet. Apparently Chinese food in the South in synonymous with Chinese buffet? But yeah, there really aren't any true Chinese places in Charleston that aren't buffets or take-out type places. This is really the only one of which I am aware. The food is pretty good, if not more Americanized than what you would find at a typical Chinese restaurant. The service is usually top-notch. It can sometimes be difficult to find a parking spot since the lot is very poorly designed and usually quite busy. If you're looking for a nice night out and some pretty good Chinese, you can't go wrong here.

I was not impressed at all. The tea tasted like water, not good for a restaurant in South Carolina and the food was blah. Rule of thumb, Chinese restaurants that have no Chinese works is like Italian food with no oregano, not authentic.

I visited this restaurant after reading online reviews since I'm not from Charleston. I'm so glad I did as the experience was wonderful. I had the flounder with a black bean sauce and it was fantastic. The service was excellent and while I wasn't thrilled there was a live piano player tucked near the front, it created a wonderful ambiance. I would highly recommend this restaurant oddly tucked in next to a Big Lots store.

Definitely a let down, and not the best Chinese food around. We got spring rolls, pancit noodles and hunan chicken. I think there was ONLY cabbage in the spring rolls, so they were terribly bland and greasy. Same flavor profile for the noodles- I kept wondering if they forgot the sauce! And the hunan chicken was ok, nothing fab. I'm gonna return to my cheapy yummy options.

Nothing special. What this city really needs is a decent Chinese restaurant. This isn't it and neither is PF Changs. So disappointing. Red Orchid is slightly better than most of the other Chinese places, though.

Having worked in Boston for the last ten years prior to our arrival into Charleston in June, I am no stranger to Chinese take-out. The weather can be so inclement that you don't dare venture out for lunch during many months of the year. When in the office I resorted to our "menu file", a place where take-out menus were stored. "Good" Chinese was an oxymoron. We ranked our selections by speed of delivery and "not as bad as others". I am not that big of a fan of Chinese food and can honestly say that I've avoided it here. I've only seen Chinese take-out places that have not interested me. So when a recommendation came for Red Orchids, I was the first to say, "I'm in." First, let me say it is located in the oddest of strip malls, but easy enough to find in the Ashley Plaza Mall. Typical of most Chinese restaurants that I've frequented, it was sparsely decorated with red lanterns and a few black and white pictures. About a dozen Christmas ornaments were also suspended from the ceiling to compliment the lanterns. But what was most prominent were the many awards recognizing Red Orchids as the "Best Chinese Restaurant" from many sources. I was intrigued and excited to have lunch. Our waiter, Will, could not have been better. He was helpful, informative and in no way intrusive. This was very impressive as there were about 8 tables off and on in the restaurant and as a server - what do you do to keep busy during a slow lunch? We ordered an appetizer - "Money Bags" because they looked interesting. They were described as tender pork meatballs wrapped in a crispy Chinese spring roll. They arrived and were very eye appealing. They did look just like a money bag. The tie for the bag we found out later was a scallion. It was a creative dish and served as a very clean presentation with ginger sauce and a lone broccoli floret. They were terrific. They did, however take well over 10+ minutes to arrive, which I thought was a long time to wait for an appetizer considering the low volume of customers. As we waited for our lunch a very tall gentleman walked around the restaurant. It would be my guess that he may have been the manager. He was also the person that seated us. EVERY time he walked by me he bumped my chair, which caused me to move my chair in a bit, by the time lunch was served I was squished and had to move the table as he had bumped me so frequently. Remember that there are 8 tables seated - could a different path not have been taken... Lunch, when served (which also took some time), was off the hook. At first I thought the Kung Po (as in Pao?) Chicken wasn't that warm, but moving it around a bit made me realize it was piping hot. There was a heaping serving of white, steamed rice and a light dipping sauce. Although I had asked for it "extra spicy", it wasn't and Will quickly brought us some chili sauce that accented it perfectly. And although very, very flavorful it was more chopped green bell peppers than chicken. But in the end the flavor won out. The Hunan Beef was served piping hot with its order of "plain" fried rice. This was new to me. "Fried Rice" usually has eggs, peas and a few other ingredients, but this one was plain but tasty. When we were presented with our check a basket of fortune cookies for our own personal selection, which I thought was a nice touch. All 'n all Red Orchids has erased the "bad Chinese food" stigma that I've had and I am certain that we will be back. I am psyched we received the suggestion as I would never have found this place. And this little gem, is not one to miss. The only improvement I would make would be to the ladies room. An exposed, not so clean drain and an overall very dirty restroom was my last impression, unfortunately.

I don't normally write reviews about Chinese places because frankly, good Chinese is hard to come by when you have had the pleasure to wade through the hanging chickens and cheap electronic stores in Chinatown, NY. However, I do feel it necessary to recommend Red Orchid, if not for the good, for the service. Tony is great guy. He is always greeting his guests, and his wait staff is also excellent. Their food ranges from average to excellent. The cheaper items are just average put you to sleep general tso's chicken, but if you decide to drop a few dollars, which I strongly recommend, you'll probably order the red snapper. And after you order that, please thank me.

Hands down best Chinese Restaurant in Charleston. Where do I begin! Must Haves: Lettuce Wraps, Teriyaki Chicken on a stick appetizer(forget the name), tangerine chicken, sesame chicken.....and I never have room for dessert but hear the icecream is to die for!

I love Red Orchid. I would drink shots of their general gau's sauce. My favorite dishes are general gau's tofu, vegetable mu-shu, and tofu and broccoli. If you go at lunch time, it's cheaper, and they give you a spring roll! The service is great. The chinese food is quality, not like the greasy stuff that you get delivered on New Years Eve. And they have a vegetarian friendly menu! A++++++

This unassuming restaurant stuck next to a Burlington Coat Factory and behind a Publix is one of Charleston's best little restaurants. On a Friday night, this place was hoppin', and with one taste of the food and a sip of one of their own signature cocktails, it's no wonder why. Friendly "bar neighbor" or "bar/anesthesiologist" Tony set the tone for a fun evening. His own Nirvana cocktail with Kraken spiced rum, chai tea and cream has a kind of Mudslide vibe to it and was a great foil to the slightly spicy and sweet tangerine chicken, which is the best I've ever had. If you're by yourself, take a seat at the bar - this is The South, so your neighbor at the next stool will chat you up, Tony has great suggestions.

TOGO: I called in my order: lumpia & pepper steak. They don't normally take phone payments but they made an exception & I told them my baby was sick so i was in a hurry and they brought itbout to my car! Great friendly service both times I called and the food was OK. Ive had better lumpia & pepper steak. DINE IN: I really liked the ambiance and the class of the inside and of the service. Servers are dressed formal and there are candles on each table and nice music. It would be a great DATE night spot. I had the Sesame Shrimp and Azian Twist drink. The shrimp were a little over cooked but good flavor and the drink was pretty delish! I heard from 4 people while I was there that the dumplings were to die for. Im gonna go back and try them and the crab ragoons (recommendation of the server).

Plenty here have discussed the entrees and appetizers at Red Orchids - I agree completely that it's the best Chinese in town. But be sure to check out the home made ice cream for dessert - the owners like to dabble in unusual combinations of flavors and it's all delicious.

First off, I have to say for the first time in my entire life as a consumer, I was totally blown away by the amazing customer service of a man that works at this restaurant named Tony. I take good customer service REALLY seriously and he really set the standards for making an enjoyable time. We will definitely ALWAYS eat at Red Orchids when we visit Charleston in the future. So here is the story: Husband and I were out in Charleston visiting it for the first time. After a VERY long day of walking and enjoying the town, we wanted to just veg out in our hotel and we were in the mood for some good chinese food. We yelped the area and saw that Red Orchids had some of the best reviews and did take out orders. We tried giving it a call but the line was busy every time. Assuming they were probably just getting a lot of call-in orders, we took a leap of faith and just headed over instead. So we go inside and we're greeted by their host and told him we just wanted to make an order for take-out. He told us to go to the bar and place an order with Tony and so we did. After placing an order, Tony immediatly thanked us for still making the trip and choosing to eat at Red Orchids amongst all other dining choices. Then, while waiting, let my husband get a drink on the house and kept us in a great and entertaining conversation the whole time. In fact, we stayed there for a whole hour just talking instead of eating. During that time, Tony greeted other customers by name and just flat out had extraordinary service. I can't thank him enough for making that evening randombly enjoyable. Not to mention our food was delicious! I got the mandarin chicken and a side of brown rice (i loved having the option of getting brown rice BTW) while my husband got pork fried rice and an appetizer of pork dumplings. It really hit the spot and we were SO FULL. Overall, the food could've tasted like garbage but their service was still the best I've had in pretty much FOREVER. Why can't everyone be like that? Like I said before, we will definitely come back here. We really enjoyed this place in every aspect. Thank you!

The best Chinese food in Charleston. Not your average run of the mill Chinese restaurant. The facade is very unassuming but it is the best kept secret west of the ashley. The food is consistent and the staff is very inviting. I've only had take out but everything is fresh and delicious. You must try the appetizer sampler and the ice cream!

Just enjoyed a wonderful dinner at this great family owned restaurant while in town visiting. It is a gem! Would definitely return!

This was a great little Chinese food hole in the wall. It's in a strip mall but don't let that deter you. The atmosphere was nice and the food was delicious. Add in the fact that the host / owner??? was really cool and personable, makes me want to recommend this place to anyone I know visiting Charleston. Thanks Red Orchid!

Good solid food. Typical egg drop soup. Korean beef was good, similar to PF Chang's mongolian beef, but with broccoli, way too much sauce and sesame seeds...seriously swimming in it. The beef was plentiful, but not cut into small enough pieces to eat with chopsticks. They need a better beer selection. Service for lunch was pleasant, but sluggish.

We eat at Red Orchid often and every time our service and food is amazing. They also have an unexpectedly great chocolate cake with 7 layers or deliciousness. It is hands down my favorite dessert/cake of all times. This is one of my favorite places to eat in town!

The food at Red Orchids is excellent but what truly makes it a great experience is the service--Top notch; an unexpected level of service for a moderately priced restaurant. At our table we had the steamed vegetable buns and the soothing lettuce wrap as appetizers. For entrees, the duck breast and the signature red snapper. Everything was just delicious and the snapper was particularly amazing. For dessert, house made doughnuts with a caramel sauce and a whipped cream made with Members Mark bourbon. Excellent, excellent, excellent! We'll definitely be returning.

Came here a few times on recommendation of a friend since I've been trying to find something in Charleston as close to an authentic dim sum place. However, it's been dissapointing. The food was either overcooked, cold, or just simply not good. While I applaud them for having a larger selection than most other chinese restaurants, i'd rather them focus on a select few and make them right. Being Fillipino, I know I can be a tough critic when it comes to Pancit, but it wasn't even cooked all the way. Same for the stir fry: the rice was chewy and bland and the service was poor (probably due to the popularity and lack of coverage) Thanks for trying Red Orchid, but I think I'll try somewhere else.

    (2)
  • Josh A.

This is one of the few places you can find Dim Sum in Charleston. The fact that they have that on the menu earns major cool points with me. Their other items on the menu aren't bad either. My grandparents love coming here and think it's the "bee's knees". I like China Dragon a little more, but this one is still nothing to pass on.

When you see this place, in the strip mall in West Ashley next to BigLots, you think...oh shit. I don' t want to eat there. WRONG! Looks are very deceiving in this case because Red Orchid packs quite a punch for a small Asian bistro. It's hard to find good Chinese food in Charleston. They have a VERY INEXPENSIVE and tasty variety of choices, ranging from typicals (General Tso and Kung Po Chicken, with huge portions of white meat chicken) to Singapore Noodles. All in all its pretty good... However, they have the absolute BEST DUMPLINGS I have ever had. No joke, every time I come I get 2 orders ($6 each with about 6 or 7 huge filling pork dumplings). They are steamed or fried- steamed taste fresh and lighter while the fried are a little crunchier but theyre both really tasty. The asian sauce they serve with them is TO DIE for. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place just for their dumplings. Not a place to pass up. The waitstaff is also very friendly and the owner comes out to greet his guests almost every time we have been there.

I love Red Orchid! Yes its in a strip mall as others are saying, and the decoration/interior is not amazing. The food is amazing, the pork buns are actually amazing, as are the money bags...oh man love this spot when I'm home.

This is a go-to lunch location for people at my office. The food is good (though not super authentic), well priced, relatively fast, and the service is excellent. Everyone seems to have a favorite dish they eat each time and all of ours are different so I can safely say it's hard to go wrong (personally I usually get the curry or the noodles).

The only date-worthy Chinese restaurant West of the Ashley. That's right, they have ambiance! And contemporary decor! Formerly thought incompatible with Chinese food... glad that they've proved us wrong. The lunch menu is "express," which is great if you have to be back at work. But the full menu is well worth the evening trip. I like the MuShu Vegetables, one of the many vegetarian options. They have also offerred to make other dishes vegetarian upon request. Friday nights can be busy, but I've never waited more than 20 minutes for a table. Great service too!

For the price you can't beat it. I love the Genghis Khan! drink, which is a bit sweet but really fun to yell as an order. The snapper and duck are both excellent.

Don't let the location of this restaurant fool you. It's a hole in the wall of the strip mall. But the food is great and the staff are friendly. You may want to make a reservation, because it's no secret to the locals that the food here is top rate.

The best Chinese food in all of Charleston. probably the best Chinese food I've ever had, and I used to live a few blocks from Chinatown in Philly so that's no small feat. The Char Sui Bao and steamed vegetable buns are both excellent dim sum appetizers. Anything on their menu can be made vegetarian and their treatment of tofu is excellent. Their stir frys are always fresh and loaded with the standard Chinese vegetable mix, accented with asparagus, black mushroom and green beans. They have a great bar and super friendly service. For once, I have NOTHING negative to say! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Updated 8/22/07 Well, I've taken away a star. I have to say that I've eaten there several times in the bast 6 months and while its still quite good. Its fallen a bit. Mostly in the vegetarian department. Their tofu is still crispy on the outside and silken on the inside, but their sauces are cloyingly sweet. The General Tsao sauce must've been honey and corn syrup based. It was tasty, but a bit overwhelming. Sorry Red Orchid, I am fast becoming a Palais De Jade girl!

What can I say. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't very good either. Extremely Americanized (which is fine, I love General Tsao's Chicken as much as anyone else), but not very flavorful or well executed. The service was good and the owner actually chatted with us after our meal. They pride themselves on their homemade ice cream, but again it wasn't anything special. If you are in the neighborhood and are hungry, Red Orchid Bistro is fine. However, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here for a meal.

went there with my mom and aunt for a late lunch and it was awesome. great ambiance and great service, food's great too! the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because it's hidden away in a strip mall and I Know that's the way it is in this area but I Just Despise it. Anyway. Mother and I had jasmine tea, came out in a cute pot for two just as I'd hoped. Crab rangoons and edamame to start, both delicious. Can't remember what the others had but I had the Pancits, which was a menu item I had never seen before in my life and it didn't sound very Chinese. The waiter informed me that it's a Philipino word, and a traditional philipino dish. It was just what I wanted - kind of like a pad thai just in the way it looked, but different flavors. We ordered dessert but then realized we were running way late so we made the poor waiter rush like crazy and then we wolfed it down - but even eating quickly it was AMAZING. mother and I shared fried banana rolls (pared with fudge ripple ice cream for some reason, not what you'd expect but still good), aunt got jasmine ice cream. yummyyy! If I lived down in Charleston I'd go again and again.

As others have said, don't let the location fool you. This may well be the best Chinese fusion restaurant in the state, and certainly one of the top restaurants in the Charleston area. What to try? I've never found anything bad on the menu, but the crab wonton is the best I've ever had, and the snapper special is to die for. Also, save room for the ice cream. As with everything else on the menu, it's made right there in the restaurant, and the flavors are awesome. If green tea, jasmine, Coconut, ginger, etc are too tame, perhaps the watermelon & basil sorbet will tickle your tastbuds, or maybe the coffee with bacon icecream. But no matter what you choose, it will be top notch. And in addition the staff are very well informed about the entire menu as well. Plus, the location keeps tourists away, so what's not to like about it?

Went back a second time and the same sesame chicken that I wanted to be burried with, was dry, tough, gamey, and lacking in flavor. It almost felt like it had been cooked the day before, not used and re-woked for the lunch crowd. We had some young Northerner as a waiter and he was condescending and rude. Actually, kind of a smart ass. Not such a hot idea when you work on tips.

I have been going here for years. Hands down, the best Chinese food in Charleston for the best price. Quality ingredients, small quiet atmosphere, and outstanding service. This not your "commercial" Chinese Buffet. Everything is made to order. If you have a special request, no problem. They are there to accommodate and please and always do!

FrankG

The best food around. It smells good but not overwhelming.

Best Chinese ever! I took a friend mine here who had been to China and he said this was as close as you could get to the real thing!

Great place to take a date. The food tastes great. The staff is helpful. My wife and I will usually ask the owner to choose a wine specifically for the meals we've ordered. So far he is batting a 1000.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
