Well they said 25 minutes but they didn't say they'd skip us for other groups to be seated. The wait was more like 35 because we got bumped yet we never left the area. I'm sorry we're not regulars, but we're still customers.

Huevos Rancheros heaven Delectable Corned beef hash minus greasy fat nuggets Homemade black beans and kick-ass salsa Biscuits (with white pepper gravy on Sundays...right??!) Real-deal grits (great with your sunny side egg) Good cup of Joe These folks hail from NOLA (New Orleans) and the cajun / southern influence is apparent with the hospitality and some select menu items. All of this located in a strip mall across from the post office in Wakefield. A great way to start a spring weekend beach day before the tourists descend upon Narragansett - or a nice drive down for a winter brunchy-poo. Weekdays I've never waited but anytime after 10 there is always a wait on the weekends. But there is a very interesting army navy surplus next door to pass the time til your table is ready. Books for the littles in the back hallway if your young ones get restless.

Holly cow bells Batman. What a great little place. So there is a just something special about cooking with a Cajun influence. God loves a good Coon Ass cook. And no, that was not a degrading remark. So what did Big Bob eat. A little bit of everything. 1) Corned Beef hash. This is not typical RI Hash, this is just a bit different. So if you love CB-Hash, go in with an open mind and you will be rewarded. 2) Biscuit . I know, 'it is just a biscuit' you are saying to yourself. Nope. I love being in RI and NE, but biscuits are not in your culinary wheelhouse. This one on the other hand is. And on Sundays, they do Biscuits and Gravy. The clouds part and the angels sing. 3) Grits. In the case Cheese and Jalapeno grits. Finally. And no, grits are not in the New England wheelhouse either. These were fantastic. So what I am saying here is if you are looking to do something different and put a little south in your mouth as Paula would say, you should head on over. I also say Jambalaya as well as etouffee. I believe it was crab etouffee and not crawfish etouffee, which I would prefer. Anyway, I believe this is going to require several trips. Oh, might I add that the service was fantastic. The place was well laid out. It is in the back of a strip mall, but that is okay.

I love coming for Friday night dinners. The Louisiana specials are typically awesome. Very casual and intimate. Many regulars.

While the location in a strip mall is unassuming, this cozy spot for breakfast and lunch is worth seeking out. Our group had breakfast and I wish I had followed other Yelp reviewers' advice and gotten the huevos rancheros. It looked great and from the bite I had, was delicious. The menu states that the tortillas come from the area's only tortillaria, and they also emphasized the other steps taken to keep their food fresh and local. I had the blueberry pancakes, which actually had the blueberries on top of them instead of in them, but they tasted good. The group raved about the breakfast potatoes and I appreciated that they also offered iced coffee in addition to hot coffee. Good service and pleasant enough surroundings.

The Bluebird Cafe is a quaint, family-owned restaurant that specializes in mainly breakfast items. A group of us were very hungry on a Saturday morning after a long night of activity and craved good breakfast foods. We walked in and the place was quite busy. We were seated right away, however, and the server took care of us almost immediately. I ordered a build your own omelet, which consisted of three fresh eggs, served with toast or a biscuit, and my choice of home fries, yellow grits, or black beans. I'd highly recommend the biscuits and home fries. You are able to pick your ingredients--ingredients included grilled onions, mushrooms, feta cheese, Swiss cheese, jalapenos, chicken, ham, tomatoes, sausage, chilies, spinach, bacon, and more. It's completely up to you! All of this for only $6. We also drank coffee, milk, and orange juice. All toast is served buttered, so if you don't want butter, you must request it without. Bluebird was exactly what I needed.

A pretty standard breakfast joint. The facility is a bit dingy, a small place but pretty loud. Server was pleasant enough. Huevos Rancheros left a bit to be desired. Nothing to write home about, but decent enough for a quick bite to eat.

Probably one of the best breakfast meals I have ever had. I made my own omelet and my husband got the eggs Benedict special. Both were served super fast and super hot. Next time I am in RI, I will be back.

This is a cute family breakfast spot that has good old fashioned egg breakfasts! Great service and would go back again!

Read that they had Huevos Rancheros so I put them on the list for the "Huevos Rancheros Tasting Tour 2013" - heavy and flavorful - a filling breakfast and not very expensive. This is kind of a dive diner in a shopping center, but don't rule it out! It is clean, service is quick and the menu is diverse. I'd definitely go back. Unfortunately, I didn't see the specials board when I walked in. On Saturday they had several variations of Huevos Rancheros as specials - and they looked even more divine than the menu version.

When it comes to breakfast food- I want my plates full, the food scrumptious and certainly don't want to empty my pockets for a completely satisfying meal. With that said..... I had been here once before a couple years ago with a buddy of mine who just LOVES it, (especially the Huevos Rancheros). Although, he is very close friends with someone of the family and got that "friendly service". Also, I did not know until a recent return, a discount as well. So, upon my return a couple weeks ago with another friend of mine. I was a tad surprised when my breakfast came to about 35$. Not cool Bluebird to charge some for your maple syrup and not others. ESPECIALLY, when you charge a buck a spoonful. (very small bottles - $1 a bottle) Don't even bother if you get pancakes/a waffle. You will be spending 3$ on syrup alone. I also want to point out the fact, I clearly remember getting plates with the food FLOWING over when I came by with my friend who knew them. Oh, but now, Not only did we spend much more money, there was less on our plates. We didn't really order that much, but overall, every little thing is priced oddly. You can get 1 egg with two sides for about 3 and change. But if you want just the damn egg, that's 2 dollars? I understand family owned businesses have to do what they need to in order to stay afloat, buuuuut, I've been to plenty breakfast shops with better tasting and cheaper food. Soo, what? I need to bring by the 'friend of the family' in order to have a good breakfast? Thanks Bluebird, but no thanks. I hear you have amazing biscuits? Maybe I'll pick up a couple driving by sometime...

First off, the dining room is dim and dirty. The menus were greasy and sticky. The tablecloths were sticky and had residue from previous diners caked on. The napkin dispenser and syrup bottle on the table were covered in grime. The butter packets were squishy and the coffee creamers were left on the table. They were not dairy free and they were warm. My friend and I both ordered Belgian waffles with sides of sausage. The waffles were overcooked and dry as dust. The sausage patties tasted like charred fennel seeds. The were burned and most likely Italian sausage patties rather than breakfast sausage. We both had regular coffees. No one came to check on us while we tried to eat the mess on our table. The bill came to $21. Never again.

This is a little old school type family restaurant in a strip mall. Good food, nice staff, fast service. Got corned beef hash, grits, a biscuit, eggs, bacon, OJ, and a small order of huevos rancheros. First, grits are kinda bland and icky in general I think. I had them before elsewhere and thought maybe I had a bad experience. Nope I think that is just how they taste. Don't do it. Coffee was weak and not impressive. Everything else was good. They have eco friendly takeout containers!

So glad I found this place on Yelp when we were staying in Narragansett. Great breakfast: huevos rancheros were a hit with the husband, Belgian waffle loved by the daughter, and I had an omelette loaded with grilled onion, spinach and tomato...yum! Home fries were the real deal, perfectly cooked and delicious not some deep fried pieces like at other places. Service was excellent and friendly; just an enjoyable meal!

This place is great. If you have been to the south you will see the influence in the food. While not the same as food from Louisiana and other southern states, for RI it is pretty damn tasty for what it is. The people who work here are great too.

I'm going to break character for a second here, and just totally let loose about how amazing this restaurant it. The Bluebird is an absolute gem, and I will sing their praises to the rafters or anyone else who cares to listen. Our food (a couple of the Friday night dinner specials) was amazing, the service was friendly in a genuine way, and the prices cannot be beat! In particular I was amazed by the fact that my crawfish piquante was actually pretty spicy! In the West Bay! Who KNEW?!? It is clear that the people running this place care about both their food, and the community they serve it to. I can't wait to become a regular and I hope the rest of you will join me in working to make the business owners wealthy beyond the dreams of avarice.

Historically, this is an excellent breakfast place. I say "historically," since we just visited it today & the food wasn't so good. The Powerhouse Eggs - my favorite item - were kind of flat, salty, but tasteless. I think they didn't put enough of the special ingredient - nutritional yeast - in it, and the home fries were overpowered by garlic salt. The biscuits were still good though. Plus, something I ate there made me sick. That's the 2nd time it's happened, but that's over an 8 year period. So I figure they may have a new line cook in the kitchen. We'll still go back. Hopefully this is just a glitch and not the beginning of a downslide.

I would give no stars if I could! What happened to the huevos rancheros. Had them last year and they were fabulous. Today something was very wrong. The eggs were so not cooked that the plate turned into a runny mess. When brought to the attention of the waitress she brought it back to the cooks who gave her a hard time and cooked them slightly and threw them back at the counter. When I advised the cashier they were unsatisfactory she still charged for them after stating a canned " I'm sorry " . If you want a plate full of slop this is the place. Will not return!

This place rocks! Great breakfast spot, but I also had a dinner special here (fried scallops po'boy) that was amazingly fresh and good. I recommend the breakfast burritos, home-made biscuits or cornbread, and look for their specials. It's small, and the hours are kind of limited, but it's got a nice casual, quirky vibe.

Doesn't look like much, but oh! the biscuits!! Wasn't impressed with the cleanliness of the table (jelly goop from previous diner on my chair) or the decor (kind of dim). But OH the biscuits...will try again.

Best corned beef hash around. Very unusual menu for this area, with lots of cajun influences. Service is always excellent too.

Best heuvos ever created. They also have incredible biscuits and all sorts of other great breakfast foods. If you go there on friday nights you'll have the opportunity to eat foods you've never heard of. It's definitely worth a couple tries.

Dirty mugs and no condiments and wasn't impressed with food or service; I've only been here once before and it was good...I don't know if today was an off day but I won't be returning anytime soon

Bluebird is great! Food is always fresh, well seasoned, and filling. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. The bluebird veggie melt is one of my favorites, it's filling and covered with cheese. I always get it no mushrooms add jalapenos. Be careful of the jalapenos, these will burn your mouth off, but in a good way. The venduras/juevos rancheros (whichever you prefer) is also very good. Their homemade salsa is fresh and delicious. Lastly, Bluebird can get pretty pricey for breakfast. Usually for two people we spend around 25 dollars. I never expect it to be that much, but it always is. Also the juice, don't bother with the small. Get a large or just get bottomless coffee. A friend of mine described the small orange juice as being served in a shot glass. They ended up getting a few of them which ends up costing you. All in all a great place to go if you're in Wakefield.

I guess I'm a tough grader, looking at the other reviews of the Bluebird. We went there last night, which was probably the 7th or 8th time I've eaten there overall. There are some dishes that they do very well, and some others not so much. I think for the best experience, you should stick to the breakfast menu. The good items - Waffles! They make delicious, huge Belgian waffles, and thankfully don't smother them in butter, whipped cream, or heaven forbid margarine *shudder*. The great - Corned beef hash. Yes, this is as good as it gets. I've been a fan of hash forever, and the Bluebird makes probably the best I've ever had. Truly tops! The not so much - syrup. Yeah yeah, you're saying "geez Dave, syrup...really?" Well yes - this is just the ersatz Aunt Jemima stuff. If it isn't 100% maple syrup, it ain't syrup! Sorry. The home fries are not very good either. They use red bliss, chopped into fairly large chunks. Unfortunately, they are rather greasy, and not at all crispy. I'm a bit of a home fry snob. When I think of the perfect home fry, I think of small, consistent cubes of firm potato with a crunchy crust, onions, and a bit of salt and pepper. They should be crispy, not mushy. Sadly, you won't find that here. On Friday evenings the Bluebird serves dinner as well as their breakfast menu. They specialize in New Orleans style dishes, some of which are very good. I like their jambalaya a lot. Last night I tried the New Orleans style catfish. It was two fillets of breaded catfish, a pile of delicious fries, and a Cajun "tartar" sauce. The sauce was more like a remoulade really, and very good. The catfish itself was, eh, catfish. The breading was ok, but had a flavor I didn't really love. It was crispy and coarse, perhaps a bit too coarse. The fish was cooked nicely, but I guess I'm not so fond of catfish. I'd rather have cod or haddock prepared this way, which is no fault of the restaurant's. It maybe that as a New Englander I'm just too predisposed to the traditional fish & chips that I can't really dig on the catfish, but oh well. The fries though were excellent. There's some sort of long explanation of how they prepare their food, and the process of making the fries, on their menu. Whatever they do, it's worth it. Really good! The service is pretty good. Pleasant waitresses, the food arrives quickly and we didn't feel ignored ever. This is basic stuff, but not every restaurant can do it. Bluebird gets it. Decor is a bit shabby and worn. Overall the place looks a bit tired, and could use more lighting. I know it's "just" a diner, but an update to the interior would go a long way to improving it. I want to like this place more, as it's one of those rare family run places that is doing something different and interesting. If they made some small adjustments here and there, it would make the Bluebird great. Lots of potential here, but ultimately a little too hit or miss.

I love that they have grits! Not a lot of places around here offer that for a side! I always end up having the same thing when I go there, tomato & ch. omelet, rye tst, and grits. Huevos Rancheros are also VERY good. Staff is very friendly, though not very attentive. Does that make sense???? If you are not too concerned about getting your coffee refilled, or being asked how the meal was, but getting to enjoy some REALLY good food cheap...go!

I had the best corned beef hash I have had ANYWHERE. One of the problems with hash is usually they make it too salty. This had just the right amount of salt. I would definitely go here again! I wanted to keep eating the hash until I exploded. My buddy did have hair in his water, so I guess that takes a star off :)

Super accomodating and friendly. They even offer items vegan if you ask. Only recommodation would be to offer soy milk for coffee and oatmeal! Otherwise four stars and super cheap :)

The best home made corned beef hash anywhere. As a single guy who eats out for breakfast all the time, i'm a snob when it comes to hash...but this place blows any other breakfast joint away. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Their prices are all very reasonable .The service is friendly and if you go a few times remembers your order...another lost art among waitstaff. They are closed on Tuesdays and open up for dinner on Friday nights.
