I love this place!!!! Pigs pigs pigs everywhere. Such a cute and intimate atmosphere! I'm so happy my good friend Cyrielle brought us to this gem on our short visit. Even though the lunch menu is much smaller than the dinner, we loved every single item on the menu! Chez Pascal is joint with the wurst kitchen (lol!!!). We tried the frankfurter Friday (4 sausage sampler) and the bacon wrapped meat loaf. Ohhhhh so good. The drinks selection was amazing as well! The ginger ale was locally made and tasted delicious! I also really enjoyed the pear cider! Yummy. The dessert is fantastic!!! Bacon bits on brownie with caramel ice cream. Yes I would prefer more bacon and less brownie but that's just porky me. The bacon were more like crumble cookie bits. Ohhhh so delicious!!! Not too oily or overwhelming at all! Can't wait to visit again so I can try some delicious dinner at this wonderful place

I'm always hoping to be more impressed than I am. The food is okay, but not spectacular. I appreciate the intention, as it seems like they try to bring a true, authentic feel to the menu, but it's hard to compare to the French. They are food goddesses. From my last visit: The escargot was more bread than snails. The charcuterie was a little overkill on weird ingredients. Everything else tasted good, but it just wasn't WOW. I will say we had the greatest waiter we could have possibly hoped for (I'm sorry I don't remember his name!) He was incredibly helpful and kind and had a true passion for his work. He deserves a super hard high five (and really nice tips). He was a fan of the banana ice cream with one of the desserts, and after he described how it was made, I had a better appreciation for it. Overall, it's a nice break from the norm, but it doesn't quite compare to other French restaurants I've been to.* *this is not a RI specific statement

This is a cozy tiny restaurant, I wouldnt suggest to go on a weekend or holidays. Made reservation ahead of time if u have big party. I had pig of the day which is a trio pork dishes. So good. Very delicate dish. Service was great. Wine is good.

I was lucky to visit Chez Pascal frequently prior to my move to Providence. As a frequent business traveler, I certainly took advantage of the wonderful opportunity to make my boss approve expense reports filled with unique non-chain restaurants, including Chez Pascal which has very good French-influenced food w/ a New Englandy flair, i.e. farm fresh produce catering to local tastes with an eye and respect for French tradition. One particular dinner sticks out in my mind, which was a special event catering to tomato. Heirloom tomatoes were served every which way--raw, stewed, roasted, souped (is that even a verb?) etc. etc. and it was really wonderful. If I had to somewhat fancifully describe that dinner, just imagine a Tomato preparing for a royal masquerade ball, trying on all kinds of fancy garments and figuring out how to make its Tomato-ness as hotness as possible, with a goal of dressing to impress. It was REALLY good. Now that I've settled in to Providence, I treat this place as more of a special treat, not because Chez Pascal is super expensive (I think the pricing is fair for what you get), but because I've found the service can be rather Frenchy in the "you have 3 hours to spare for dinner" type of way which is a real luxury to a busy worker bee. Otherwise, the service has always been nice and the servers really do add to the relaxed south of France vibe you get here. All in all, would I come again? Yes. Would I recommend this place to someone wanting Frenchy food? Yes (especially with an expense account). I'd only note to snobby-leaning eaters that enjoy referring themselves as "foodie" (just admit it, you know who you are!!), if you're expecting Michel Gras or Joel Robuchon, you'll be disappointed. This place is more in line with the wonderful but anonymous neighborhood bistros you'll find all over France, especially the south of France, where the service is Frenchy, the environs warm and cozy, and your food undoubtedly and unpretentiously tasty.

We went here on a whim last night after Los Andes was booked up for two hours straight. I wasn't expecting much and after looking at the prices online, I figured my wallet was going to be sad for food that would probably be just okay. I was so very wrong. The food was so good it made me angry. Angry! Physically mad! Why did the food have to be so good? Why have I never put it in my mouth before? WHY DID I NEVER COME HERE? We wanted to split some sides and appetizers, which I thought might be a problem because of how upscale the restaurant was -- but without even having to ask, the waitress made separate portions for us in absolutely gorgeous mini place settings. We had a small meat parade of sausages and braised pork that were divine and ordered a cheese plate to finish. Get the cheese plate. Just get it. All the waitress asked us is if we liked bleu cheese (uhhh, yes?) and she came back with a killer selection of aged goat cheese and bleu from Vermont and something else from Massachusetts that was so good I had to ask her for a list of all the cheese later. After we finished eating, we walked over to Wurst Kitchen and bought $20 worth of cheesewurst and beerwurst because PUT THAT SHIT IN YOUR MOUTH. If you're a heathen like me and hesitate to go someplace this Fancy, don't. I definitely forgot to wear a bra before I went there and I regret nothing.

I have been meaning to post a review for Chez Pascal since my visit in April. My husband took me for my birthday and I can't wait to return. For some reason, I was expecting the place to be fancier, but I was pleasantly surprised by the warm, welcoming, and laid back atmosphere. I'm pretty sure one of the waiters was wearing jeans. Our waitress was excellent... I wish I could remember her name. I started with French onion soup and my husband ordered a warm salad special. Both were fantastic. For my entree, I ordered the duck, recommended by our waitress. My husband ordered the vegetarian dish. My meal was beyond delicious--I didn't want it to end. I had never eaten duck before, but I can't imagine it being anywhere near as delicious anywhere else. Incredible.

The Wurst by day, Chez chique by night. Chez Pascal serves some of the most beauitful food in the Providence area. Influenced by what you may already suspect... the French, the food is a delicate balance between flavor and beauty. Each dish is prepared delicately but with a force of flavor. Don't be fooled! They have a sign for both the Wurst Kitchen and Chez Pascal and they are one in the same restaurant. They only do Wurst during the day and then they do both at night (minus the hot dog buns). I went with the BF and each dish was split up for us at no extra charge and without us even asking making sharing a very doable. They have a great list of beers and wines and a menu that would make your eyes horizontally nystagmatic. We had a seafood broth with a couple added clam bellies, escargot followed by duck and dessert. Each decorate impeccably, seasoned perfectly and together tasting amazingly. Prices are on the expensive side but worth the experience! Street parking and it does fill up quickly given that the restaurant is on the smaller side. Everyone is so polite here. Highly recommend this place!

We had not gone back to Chez Pascal for over a year but felt the need to return for their pate! As always, nice staff, cozy atmosphere and great menu! My pate and charcuterie plate was quite good but I did find the chorizo too smoky for my taste. My husband had the Restaurant Week 3 course dinner. Everything was very good- especially the salad. Glad we went back!

I contacted Chez Pascal a few days prior to coming in for my anniversary. I have a very long list of food allergies and they were very kind and accommodating. They made me a couple of dishes that were not on the menu, including the BEST duck confeit I have ever had and a huge dish of braised pork shoulder. I left very satisfied and almost giddy from the delicious local, high quality food. Chez Pascal is my choice for best Farm to Table in Rhode Island.

Great hidden gem with amazing food and service. The Valentines prix fixe chefs menu was amazing. The pork pot roast with spicy kimchi of kohlrabi, oyster & celery root chowder, and the grilled marinated leg of lamb with potato goat cheese gratin were all amazing. Also great wine and cocktail selections. Will definitely be back.

I consider this place one of the gems of the East Side. Took my folks here recently, and we are all very pleased. The atmosphere is homey, comfortable and very nice. The wait staff was quick and responsive. I can't wait for another special circumstance to go again!

I dined at Chez Pascal today for their brunch that happens only once a year. I thought that perhaps I should refrain from writing a review because it would only make readers despair over the fact that they would have to wait another year to experience brunch at this lovely establishment. But I decided to review anyway. This was my first time at Chez Pascal despite living in Providence for quite some time now (don't ask me why). The place is very cozy and inviting. The ambiance is what my boyfriend describes as "French Farmhouse". The service was excellent. For our meals, we got the 1) local black beans with queso fresco, avocado, carpentaria masa cake & 2 sunny side egg 2) warm flamiche with pastrami, mortadella, prosciutto & swiss cheese with side of greens & dijonnaise 3) baked spaetzle with frankfurters, aged gruyere cheese, kale & herb bread crumbs and 4) spicy duck ragout with crispy potato cake, 2 fried eggs & cranberry grainy mustard. My favorite dish was the flamiche. It was crispy on the outside with a delectable filling of housemade meats and cheese. All the dishes were well conceived and executed. My only complaint is that the crispy potato cake was not so crispy after being plated smothered in the duck ragout. Overall, it was a lovely experience. It's a shame they don't offer brunch more!

I think this is one of the GREAT restaurants in all of the northeast. Completely impressed. Food choices? Excellent. Wine list? Even better. So well thought out. Unless you are into labels and national brands AND you lack imagination and adventure to try new things. Jura on the list? Won't find that many places in the USA. The appetizer (squid) and dinner (Cassolette) were as fine as any I've had. Anywhere. And I do travel extensively all over the US and Western Europe. The Pork Belly in the Cassolette hit all the high notes: flavor tender yet crispy on the surface. As good as it gets. If you're a foodie? If you have a sense of adventure to try new things? Hand crafted food and drink? This is a "must visit,"

My wife and i went for our anniversary on April 11, 2015. Everything was amazing, I had the pate platter and mixed grill, I was in hog heaven (all pun intended). The platter was amazing, homemade headcheese, country pate, and a duck liver mousse. My entree, smoked sausage, pork belly and a quail, with a wonderful potato cake. My wife started with a mixed greens appetizer, the a beautiful skate. We love their desserts, but had plans. Our waitress Tammy was helpful, and quite knowledgeable. We had drinks prior to dinner , next to their sausage station, and had a great conversation with Ben, one of the sous chefs. I would like to thank Matt and Kristen for such a wonderful time, and look forward to going back soon.

Man had I missed this place. DELICIOUS. I tried Beaucastel here for the first time some 8-10 years ago, was very happy to be back. Reasonably priced, unique menu, delicious food, wonderful staff.

From top to bottom, Chez Pascal can be summed up in one word: phenomenal. I recently are here with my fiancé and best friend and the experience was perfect. The staff was more than friendly and helped create a relaxing, fun atmosphere. The restaurant itself is very cozy which enhances the charm. Now the food...oh the food. Not one bite that I had was less than satisfying. From the special appetizer of the night, a twist on poutine, to my entree of skirt steak atop a bed of spaetzle, to the out of this world pear upside down cake topped with blue cheese crumbles. Yes I said blue cheese. The best sweet and savory dessert I have ever had. Hands down. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a well crafted meal without the gigantic price tag and fancy attire.

Still love this place and can't wait to get back there for my first cassoulet in 2015. It's homey & relaxed, but the food is out of this world classic French. Service is always terrific.

My husband and I finally tried the Wurst Kitchen and it was a wonderful experience. We were there early enough to discuss some of the options with various attentive staff (mid-August on a Thursday and they were bustling). All staff were knowledgeable and helpful. We shared Bratwurst and the Knockwurst. Since we lived in Europe near the Alsace-Lorraine region, we observed that the owners have captured the essence of the true flavor of A-L food and the charm of the experience of a traditional bistro--while still making it "their own." Pear upside cake and cafe au lait were incredible! Can't wait to go back! TIP: try to sit at the Wurst Kitchen Bar on your first visit to the WK so that you can see prep work and ask questions. If you sit at the main bar, you can order off both the regular and WK menu.

It was an amazing experience from the second we walked in the door. The staff couldn't have been better, their execution across the board was impeccable. They made great recommendations and knew the menu inside and out. The duck was the best I have every had and the pear upside down cake was otherworldly. Not to mention the sausages at the wurst kitchen. We look forward to many more meals!

I went here for restaurant week while on business in Providence with a bunch of colleagues. I didn't try it, but my colleagues loved the escargot. Overall the food was good. For the restaurant week menu, I got the soup, the cod, and the cranberry tart thing. The cheese soup was good. The cod was excellent. The cranberry and chocolate tart thing was very tasty. Overall, a pretty good restaurant.

Reliably excellent food, warm atmosphere, great service... Chez Pascal is always a nice evening! Other reviews have addressed all the reasons why this place is excellent, so I am only going to give my reason to keep it at four stars: its focus on tradition sometimes verges on the conservative (nothing wrong with that, but that means I've never been wowed by a dish), and on two occasions (out of 5-6?), listed ingredients were hard to find on the plate. I WOULD give 5 stars to the Wurst kitchen, however, which is always spot-on and a perfect lunch or bar spot. Try everything you can there!

Like a souflee prematurely released from the oven, Chez Pascal left me très dégonflé. After pouring over rave reviews, we booked Chez for my birthday dinner (...woops). On a Wednesday evening a reservation wasn't necessary (it was comfortably full without being crowded). We were immediately seated with menus....and then we waited... After about eight minutes we had decided what to order, and now sat patiently for our server whom was chatting with a couple neighboring patrons. Overall I felt that the service was professional and organized, and without being overbearing (extra points!). As for the food.... *Sigh* I know, what business does a vegetarian have dining at a meat-centric kitchen? I couldn't help it! Chez Pascal seemed to be a PVD staple, with carnivore dishes enough to make my date's mouth water, and since they had an entire section of their menu FOR Vegetarians....I figured it would be a safe (and delicious) option. ....eiy. We began with two starters: a potato bisque as well as "the wurst" with blue cheese bread pudding (what the kitchen is *known* for - and with local ingredients!). The bisque (with sour cream and chive) was delicious! The wurst - I felt it was rather tasty, but my seasoned sausageur date said that he found it unremarkable (not incredible, and certainly not terrible....just "ok"). My date's "bistro entree" (3 courses $35 is a GREAT deal...if you don't mind the 100% set-in-stone menu, which is NOT veggie-safe) of pork over potatoes with a pork-mushroom reduction was savory and delicious. My order of the spring vegetable tart with wilted greens and carrot puree (emphasis on the fact that this was the ONLY veg option...and it was $22) arrived and was GORGEOUS.... unfortunately the tart crust was practically impossible to cut through, the vegetables were bland, and the overall composition (once deconstructed) was an elaborate jenga tower of rando veggies in various stages of firmness. It was so unmemorable that I practically forgot to ask for a to-go container (...for the food I didn't really need to have again). Overall impressions: nice service, meh food, overpriced. Maybe the "Wurst Window" is "wurth" it....but I'd rather spend my bonus bucks where flavor is celebrated and inspired.

Chez Magnifique! NYE 2013 - Prix Fixe Menu - wonderful selection of dishes for every palate, Chef Matt even made a point of calling me after I made the reservation as I had mentioned my dairy allergy. Chez Pascal is the perfect place for a romantic dinner with someone very special. I feel the pricing is very reasonable. The NYE dinner was 3 course for $65. Appetizers: I knew it was going to be a good meal -- they were perfectly sized and delicious. Chorizo and potato stuffed local squid with a stew of spicy chickpeas, chard & garlic Entree: The cod was so light a flaky that I was almost unwilling to share with my date. Cod filet with baked local cornmeal cake, wild mushroom broth and charred green cabbage The entire meal was perfectly paced - 2 hours including our time sitting and chatting while enjoying our coffee. This was a great way to close out the year and I won't wait a year to return.

Had an outstanding meal here this summer with our friends who know and love this place. I was a tad taken aback by the pork emphasis, since I am basically a vegetarian (not for moral reasons, but because I just don't like meat and never have--I stopped eating red meat when I was 16). Anyway, I managed just fine with the menu, and since I'm *not* a strict vegetarian, or god forbid, vegan, it didn't matter to me if there was pork flavoring in something I'd ordered--although I realize it would matter very much to others. So just pointing that out, because this is not a good choice of a restaurant for anyone who is morally/ethically opposed to consuming meat, especially pork! (Orthodox Jews, turn around and run!) Anyhow, we had a great meal and a great time, ambiance was just right for us that night, and while our waiter was a bit on the prima donna side, he was amusing (at least to us in our happy frame of mind that evening; can definitely see how he could be highly annoying at other times). We will most certainly be back. Well done!

This is one of my favorite date night restaurants. My favorite menu item is the escargots!! They are so flavorful and done just right! I ordered the duck confit for my entree. It was very good. We also split the cheese and charcuterie tasting. It was way better than the charcuterie at nicks on Broadway. The service was perfect! Dessert was wonderful as well!! Oh! On a separate occasion when I dined here, I ordered the soft shell crab appetizer!! This was a showstopper! Damn good and not greasy! Chez pascal

We finally made it here after driving by many times a day for the past two years. It was definitely worth the wait. The service was great- the drinks were unique and different and the food was phenomenal. I had the bistro menu-- calamari appetizer was TO DIE FOR and the dessert was equally amazing. I would go back for the dessert again in a heartbeat. I LIKED my fish- didn't love it although I had it for leftovers the next night and loved it!! So weird. This is my take on the dessert-- caramel, apple, and cranberry all mixed together with a little powdered sugar and homemade cinnamon ice cream. Are you salivating?? Seriously, I need that powdered sugar deliciousness again. ASAP.

My boyfriend and I went to Chez Pascal for date night last night and we were both beyond impressed! Everything from the food to the service was perfect. We had been to the Wurst Kitchen several times for lunch and were always more than thrilled with our delicious choices, but last night's meal was beyond our expectations. We shared the escargots and pork confit crepe for appetizers and both were fantastic! The snails were perfectly cooked and the crepe and watercress salad that accompanied it were different from what I would have normally ordered but absolutely delicious (I especially loved the chopped pickles in the salad!). For entrees I ordered the duck and my boyfriend ordered the pork trio special. Both were cooked perfected and beautifully plated, we couldn't have been happier with either dish. The waitstaff was friendly and very attentive without rushing us or hovering over us. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

An out-of-the-way corner of culinary paradise. We arrived on a Monday evening, sans reservations. The venue wasn't packed and we were seated immediately. While we suspect we were purposefully placed in an awkward table behind the menus cabinet, it ended up being quiet, away from other tables, with a clear view of the kitchen door. The food was complex and layered, with each flavor playing its role in the well-composed dish. The half duck was moist, the skin crispy and unctuous. Underneath it was a bed of fluffy, airy polenta. There were tart berries, bitter broccoli rabe, and sweet sour cherry sauce. The pork of the day was a trio tasting: juicy leg, fatty belly, and creamy head roulade, drizzled with variations of bbq-like sauce. The potato au gratin was warm and comforting, the outside layer crisped like well-done hash. This massive portion of potatoes, coupled with the sweet sauce literally and flavor-wise hid the swiss chard underneath. Dessert! The blueberry tart with vanilla ice cream was a substitute for the rhubarb tart with mint & honey ice cream. While the blueberry tart was good, we very much wished the rhubarb was available. The pear upside down cake with blue cheese, walnuts, caramel sauce and creme fraiche. Oh goodness. It took many, many, many bites to understand the multiple components of this dish and how they fit together. The pear upside down cake remained the faithful structure. The caramel was the sweet note, and the blue cheese crumbled on top was its salty complement. The walnuts added crunch, but how does the creme fraiche fit into this? Why of course: To temper the demanding, salty personality of the blue cheese. It was an exciting journey through this dish. The service was quick and pleasant (if not a bit awkward). Overall, we left full and satisfied.

This is my favorite restaurant. Everything is delicious and imaginative and I've never had anything here that isn't excellent. The menu changes by the freshest ingredients of the day. What I often do is order the least likely thing that I will enjoy. What happens is they never serve anything that isn't fantastic and I'm always happy even ordering in this unlikely way. The building is small and cozy so its best to make reservations. You won't be disappointed.

My wife and I went to Chez Pascal on New Year's eve, 2014, to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was simply a gastronomic feast with a prix fixe offering which included many, many choices! Our starters, a braised beef short rib crepe with kale, wild mushrooms, hazelnuts and bacon jam was superb! My wife had the sauteed squid with a crispy potato & chorizo croquette, caramelized onion sauce & aioli which she loved! Our entrees were equally unique and so good we both savored each bite! I had a date and chilpote pepper marinated leg of lamb cooked medium rare with soft polenta, braised greens & a golden raisin compote. It was perfect and the lamb was succulent and tasty! My wife had a stuffed Cavenish farm quail with a cornbread and fig stuffing...she generously offered me a taste and it was memorable. The serving sizes were generous for a french restaurant and the service was exceptional and personal particularly since the wait staff worked together. All said, this was a memorable experience for our 47th anniversary!

Pitiful.... just sad and it is truly shameful to refer to this place as anything French. Food plus atmosphere= 1 stars waitstaff ups it a star. Staff=awesome Will pass on this next time. Given the price this as far below average. This venue with dated decor that presumably yearns to fit into a French restaurant design, goes to lengths to employ every single 'homey' embellishment possible, including miss matched throw pillows. It attracts an older crowd, and the dress is second tier upper casual. The food was quiet one dimensional. Pâté was coupled w/ some fairly strange and nontraditional selections, including a mayo spread causing my French BF to raise an eyebrow. Main courses: Fairly one dimensional, with sparse attention to seasoning. roasted boneless half chicken with roasted root vegetables & yukon gold potatoes: submerged in oil, and the crispy coating became a sponge for chicken fat. It was placed atop potatoes, causing the entire dish to have an overly bland, oily composition that rendered it quite boring. It was most akin to eating the top skimmed portion of Thanksgiving gravy. There is nothing 'roasted' here. slow roasted half duck: Same taste as the chicken, but this was more or less traditional in the way the duck was addressed. The presentation, while very large, was shockingly lackluster. It could have used a green of sorts, and even those provided were doused in an oily glaze that took away from the fresh appeal of vegis. Both suffered from this lack of presentation. dessert- One was a ginger bread sort of offering (don't recall the name) that was in the form of two pieces of 'cake'. It was overly dense, burnt on one side, and otherwise sad. The custard (specials? not on online menu) was a highlight of the meal, and was quite yummy. The wait staff was incredibly awesome, and the youth and humor they brought to the table was in direct composition with the stuffy decorations.

Four people: four different entrees--vegetarian, fish, duck, pork. Everyone was thrilled. And the two desserts we shared were wonderful as well. We experienced both outdoor seating--quiet in a mostly residential neighborhood-- and indoor after a few raindrops fell. We were charmed by both.

I meant to write the review the next day after having dinner there, but it was a busy week on the road, so my memory is fading on the exact menu items we had.. however the 4 in our party had 3 excellent dinner choices - this was definitely the best dinner in Providence and one of the best French ones I had outside France. Excellent, friendly service, delicious food. If back in Providence, I will definitely go back there.

Restaurant Week Review: Definitely a good deal for an excellent restaurant during the famed Restaurant Week of RI. The service is always top notch and the food exquisite. I ordered the wild mushroom bread pudding goodness and enjoyed a very succulent swordfish steak. Being a family endeared to sharing of food, I also tried the pulled pork shoulder (which was super delicious). I don't really recommend the chicken soup or the peanut butter dessert...since they were really spectacular (delicious yes, special...not really). Overall, definitely come here if you've never been to Chez Pascal before and you will not be disappointed. Food: 4 stars Service: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars Price: 5 stars (for restaurant week)

I was rather impressed by the food here at Chez Pascal. A friend of mine had seen a glowing review on TV in Boston for the place, and asked if we wanted to check it out together. I insisted on a drink across the street, (and one after dinner), and I was in. The salad, with a potato and cheese filled crepe on top, was a great start. The richness of the egg batter crepes, and the soft cheesy potato, a perfect pair siting on warmed greens. Our waiter got flakier by the second. By this point in the meal, there was even money betting he was majorly stoned. The southern Rhone blend I had ordered was no longer available, the crazy waiter stepped up and brought a different, and truly enjoyable replacement. Speaking of enjoyable, the special of the evening was Pork Belly and Loin. Drizzled in a slightly sweet and smoky two part glaze, normally not my thing, but this one was delicious. Dinner was great, the nightcap across the way even better.

This place knocked my taste buds into submission. I don't eat out at "fancy" places very often and this place made me wish I could. We went here on a Tuesday night at 6pm, 2 tables occupied. They have a deal on Tues, a 3 course meal and a glass of house wine for $42. It was cool because we were able to taste a lot of their flavors by going this route. The flavor pairings were so interesting, like squid on-top of a bed of lentil beans, feta and what I think was fennel on top (amongst other ingredients) and it was devine. Only flaw, our server... He was fine, not too eager during dinner, only when it came to the tip. He made sure he came right over to our table immediately upon us getting up so he could grab the credit card receipt and ring in his tip (not the remaining plates and glassware). That really annoys me. To me that says "I don't think you tipped me enough so I want to check before you leave". I mean, if the place was packed and they needed our table I would understand, but that wasn't the case. And no I don't think it was the end of his shift as he had other tables still eating. Waiters take notice... It isn't just the food that is important, it is your courtesy and not coming across as tip starving.

Amazing every time. Best duck I've ever had. I eyed this place for a few years before finally stopping in for the first time. So glad I did as I have yet to be disappointed. I'm not able to go often, but it may well be my favorite restaurant in Providence.

My husband and I celebrated our first anniversary at Chez Pascal last night and had a wonderful experience. We started out with appetizers, hard shelled clams for him and a special tomato soup with yogurt and basil puree for me. Both were delicious. For our entrees, my husband had the pork of the day (POD as our server called it) and I had sea scallops. Again, both were amazing. I order scallops a lot, and it is rare to find them so fresh and perfectly cooked as they were at Chez Pascal. They have that soft, sweet taste that only comes from scallops that haven't been "plumped" with chemicals, as of course I'd expect at a restaurant of this level. We sadly skipped desert, but the options looked amazing. The service was friendly and paced "just right." We enjoyed a leisurely dinner without it feeling too slow. The atmosphere is warm and quiet, not overly formal, with great artwork by local artists on the wall. I would wholeheartedly recommend Chez Pascal for anyone celebrating a special occasion or looking for someplace for a fancy date night.

Have only had lunch here, brats are amazing, i don't eat hot dogs but I've had them here and they're wicked freakin good, service is awesome, very friendly staff, all their food is local and fresh, made from scratch! Who does that, not too many others, would eat here every week if it were closer, a friend showed this place to me, can't wait to try dinner here! Would give 10 stars if I could! Pure awesomeness

I heard about this place both from a friend and from the NY Times. Both were right to recommend it to me, I had a lovely dinner here! Not only are the ingredients Rhody local, (or house-made!) but the food is scrumptious and creative. My skirt steak was not served like every other skirt steak I've had in my life (and without complaint, too) but instead sliced and arranged flower-petal style over mirepoix and a potato square crunchy pancake-y thing. To start I had some yummy bread, and escargots Burgundy-style, garicky and buttery, with some toasted breadcrumbs and Pernod. And cinsault by the glass? Pretty cool.

If you only order 1 thing, order the charcuterie plate. If you only order 2 things, order the charcuterie plate and the Pork of The Day entree. If you only order 3 things, order the charcuterie plate, the pork entree, and another charcuterie plate. As you can probably tell, I love charcuterie, and Chez Pascal's is made in house and absolutely amazing. Pork is their specialty, so you can't go wrong with any pork products. Drinks, service, and atmosphere are all great as well. Still have yet to try any desserts...

Sparse portions. Inflated prices, attracting a homogeneous clientele. A very limited menu. And no wine list to speak of. Very disappointed on my first visit. I so looked forward to it. Excellent waitstaff made the experience tolerable.

For my first stop on my Restauraunt Week 2012 tour I went to Chez Pascal after having heard about it from my friends since I started coming to Providence. We were seated outside quickly without a reservation, and ordered our options from the RW menu. I got mussels in broth for an appetizer, while hubby got the chowder. While I enjoyed my selection I have to say, the best mussels in Providence are being served at Louie Fuller- which isn't to say my CP mussels were bad, I just prefer how they're prepared (with a pink broth and crispy frites) at LF better. I also got stuck with a barnacled mussel, which I've never gotten across town (or at any other restaurant for that matter)- while I was assured there was no harm in its presence, I would've rather not had that mussel (along with the five that were closed) at all. Besides that, the rest of our meal was terrific. The vegetable entree was tasty and the blueberry crepes were very satisfying. All in all, I would definitely go back to Chez Pascal in the future to hopefully try dining in the main room and maybe try something off their normal menu.

I went in on a thursday night with a friend and ordered the artichoke heart salad and chicken breast, my friend ordered the burger. I got a Pazcal sour (grapefruit and whisky) This place is, fancy for the sake of being fancy. The chicken breast was extremely over seasoned, the cocktail tasted like a pretentious version of the jungle juice you'd get at a college party, in other words of harsh rotgut vodka and rotten fruit, the salad was texturally imbalanced, and my friend's burger was extremely overcooked. The only thing they managed not to screw up was the polenta, and fried cheese and corn meal is frankly difficult to screw up. All in all, this place seems to be well reviewed due to the "emperor's new clothes" phenomenon in reviewing, where people are frightened to come off as "too unsophisticated to appreciate" a restaurant as absurdly over priced and "fancy" as this one, while the chefs know nothing about balancing flavor, the bar staff uses fashionable ingredients without understanding what ratios to combine them in, and the entire thing comes down to an embarrassing petite bourgeois display of pretending to enjoy the unpalatable because it makes them feel like they can appreciate "complex acquired tastes" The only upsides were the kindly waitstaff and pleasant decor... now if only they'd fire the chef. The only other explanation for this utter disaster of a meal was the possibility of my friend and I perhaps not fitting the description of desired customer (me with my pink bangs, outlandish makeup and long silver acrylic nails) though in the city which houses RISD I suspect this is not the case.

I really wanted to like this place... And I did! In fact... I loved it! This is my most favorite restaurant... The décor is cozy yet classy... They service was VERY friendly and helpful (which is good in a French restaurant!). The prices were decent considering the quality of food at this establishment. I had the duck confit and it was awesome. Great cheese plate too. Do not miss out on this gem!

Wonderful waitstaff ,delicious food served promptly dessert was heavenly. Only complaints their menu online is not up to date so if you look on that see something you want it's possible that they will not have it once you get there.

How have I not reviewed Chez Pascal yet?? An emphasis on local ingredients and always a refreshed menu, great wine selection and lovely atmosphere - what more do you want. Perfect for a weeknight date, celebratory birthday outing or just any time you want a little romance in your life. The waitstaff are always helpful with meal choices and wine pairings. Favorites are the cheese plate, escargot and any of the chocolate dessert offerings. **If you go for a birthday, let them know ahead of time and they'll put the classiest little candle in your dessert!

I came in to Chez Pascal looking to be impressed and boy was I. I made a reservation for four for a Tuesday night via a phone message (they were not open yet when I called) and they returned my call that evening. When we arrived the following Tuesday, we were met by a very pleasant young lady who was more than happy to accommodate us even when we were about a half hour early. They took our coats and hung them up, handing us a number to retrieve them later on. We were sat at a very lovely table and were given our menus and the beer/wine list. They only have one draft beer choice and a few bottles, but I figure that a lot of "nicer" restaurants are more leaning towards the creative cocktail and wine crowd. I ordered a left hand Fade to Black (bottle) because I am a die hard beer lover, although I admit I ordered a glass of red wine later. We were there for restaurant week and therefor ordered off their RW prix fixe menu. I ordered the pork terrine for my appetizer, skirt steak for entree, and the chocolate cheesecake for dessert. When the appetizers arrived we were all delighted by our choices. The pork terrine was accompanied by a scrumptious bacon salad with a tangy Dijon dressing. My husband's chowder was quite amazing as well. My father-in-law had this to-die-for squid salad that was perfectly prepared and not too chewy. When our entrees came out we were wowed by not only how beautifully executed the dishes were but the overall flavor and freshness of everything. The steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked and was set atop some of the best tasting mashed potatoes I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. The scallops were marinated in fresh citrus which made them tangy and mouth-wateringly awesome. My husband did complain about the small portion but I was a little bit more understanding. The braised pork that my mother-in-law had was all absolutely delicious. The polenta that it came with was superb. Everything from the presentation of the meal, to the flavor, and the perfectly paired garnishes was overwhelmingly good. They definitely have the kind of food that has you dying for your next trip back. Now for the sweet stuff. Ok, so for the desserts we were a little bit boring and all ordered the same one. The pineapple upside-down cake just didn't sound as appetizing to us as the cheesecake. Now I assume that since it is a french inspired restaurant that they do the cheesecake a little differently. I am not complaining because I found it to be quite tasty, but it isn't as rich and well...cheesy, as American style cheesecake (NY style?) It was still really good and I was actually happy that it wasn't as rich as I was quite full already. If you haven't quite figured it out yet, I was a huge fan of Chez Pascal. If I were a rich woman, which I am not (aka social service worker), I would eat here every week. They were really that good. The atmosphere is classy without being pretentious. I really felt comfortable there and was really pleased by how friendly and efficient the service was. All of the staff appeared to really enjoying working there. I really can't wait to go back, especially once it is a little bit warmer and I can walk there. Then again I would walk ten miles through a blizzard for food that good.

Came here mid-week w a couple of girlfriends. It's been on our list of places to try for a while and in all honesty, I was a bit skeptical coming in, having heard mixed reviews from others. Decor was a nod towards Provençal as far as I could tell. It was chilly indoors which was unexpected since it was one of the first truly beautiful days of spring. Actually really enjoyed my cocktail- the French Lilly. Refreshingly lemony w a creamy finish simply served in a martini glass. I knocked it over w a few sips left and was so sad to see it wasted. Oh well, I'll be back for more! We shared the escargot starter. It was my friend's first experience w snails but she quickly became a fan. They were drenched in garlic pernod butter and perfectly cooked. The escargot themselves were large and tender, no sand or fishy flavor present. Sweet buttery brioche toasts complemented the crustaceans well. They were out of scup so I begrudgingly substituted cod. I still think scup would have been a better complement to the dish but the green butter sauce and wilted pea tendrils? I could have had that as a dish alone! I assume my friends loved their dishes (seared scallops and skirtsteak) because we didn't speak for eating and each of us cleared our plates without sharing! To complete the evening we shared the orange scented arborio rice fritters in rhubarb soup. No words necessary, just please go taste for yourself. Mmmm. Fears allayed, experience well worthwhile.

I was here with 3 friends earlier this week for restaurant week. We sat at the bar for a bit before our reservation. The bartender was very nice and chatted with us for a bit. When we sat down at our table at 7 it was not very busy but picked up soon after. We all really liked our food. I got the potato soup with kielbasa, beef en croute, and banana cake. it said tart on the menu but it was not anything I would recognize as a tart. The molten chocolate cake was very good. The entrée was good but needs a side of vegetables. It was very small, not much to it. The restaurant itself has nice décor. Our server was very nice but service was a bit slow. We asked for separate checks when we sat down and it was all put on one bill so that had to be fixed. Mistakes happen and that's fine but after 2 hours we were antsy to leave as it was late on a weekday. Overall it was an ok visit and we may give it another try sometime.

The vegetarian plate was creative and unlike anything I've ever tasted before. It was a pudding and root vegetable mix that left me full the rest of the evening. Great place for conversationalists. Little to no music, and not so busy that you can barely be heard across the table. Wish they had vegetarian hot dogs at their food truck, as I've heard their hot dogs are delicious.

Oh. My. Goodness. I do not know what took me so long to try out this gem! I've been meaning to go for years but alas there are so many good restaurants and sadly, only so much time. Well, last night was my birthday and earlier in the week I told my hubby I wanted to try somewhere new and (surprise!) he actually was listening to me when I said "I really want to try Chez Pascal" every time we drove by. We had 7:30 reservations and were promptly greeted upon arrival. The venue is definitely warm and inviting and it felt cozy on such a cold night. Overall the atmosphere is very relaxed and home-y. Not fancy but nice enough. We were quickly greeted by our server and I ordered the Chez Cosmopolitan which was really, really delicious. There were some bold flavors in there, and they were blended perfectly. Hubby ordered a half-bottle of wine and we were good to go. For starters we ordered the Cheese Plate. OMG, the cheese plate. Seriously, I think we scraped every possible bit of goodness off that board. The cheeses were absolutely wonderful with a variety of tastes and textures, but the real star of this dish was the accompaniments. Each cheese came with a house made chutney, relish, or jam and the homemade breads, flats and mini cheese crackers were just awesome! One of our cheese was served with a pear honey that was just out of this world. Honestly, I could make a meal out of that cheese plate no problem! For dinner I had the seared flounder with celery root puree with truffle oil and a squash, olive, brussel sprout hash while hubby had the skirt steak entree. Seriously, both of these dishes were absolutely superb! I am still thinking of how good they were today, which is a true sign of a good meal. I would have been happy with either dish as both were really, really, really delicious. So good! Did I mention I really liked our entrees? We ordered two desserts, even though by this time I was stuffed to the brim. I didn't want to order dessert which, for the record, may be the first time in history I thought "nope I'm good" when it came to dessert. We had the pear upside down cake and the chocolate-filled pastry. Both tasty and decadent, but I couldn't fit more than a couple of bites. Overall, we really enoyed our meal and look forward to going back! Service was pleasant and our waiter was very excited to hear it was our first time dining there. We spoke to a couple other employees as well and everyone was so friendly, welcoming, and just very nice. It added to the joy of our evening. I am hoping to try the Wurst Kitchen soon, and cannot wait to go back for another meal. Chez Pascal might not be as fancy as the other restaurants I have rated as 5-star, but their food is most certainly just as good!

I think I just found my go-to winter comfort food: cassoulet from Chez Pascal. It is so so good. Slow-cooked and piping hot beans + pork + duck + crispy bread crumbs for texture = food heaven. Pair it with a nice glass of red wine and before long, you will forget all about how cold it is outside. If you're looking for something that will warm you up but is a little bit lighter, the butternut squash chowder with potatoes + bacon is crazy delicious. Atmosphere isn't stuffy, but it's not exactly a bustling brasserie either. This is a place you'll want to linger at.

I stopped by Chex Pascal to sample the Bucket Beers they have on tap. The beer was great and it made me wonder why more restaurants don't carry such local fare with integrity. No offence to Blue Moon or Shock Top - but how much of the same thing can you drink? My first time there they asked if I wanted to go to the "Wurst Bar" which I thought was funny but followed their lead to a bar of sausages. I talked to the "bar tender" (chef) who grinds and cases the sausages in house and works at a local high end butcher shop. He knew alot about meats, freshness and cuts of meats and I enjoyed the conversation. Price points for lunch sausage were arounf $7.50 so that was better than I thought I would pay. I will definately go back for lunch as it is local food, fresh, homemade, and very reasonable.

First time caller, as they say. The meal, the experience, was so wonderful that I'll have to return and test if it was merely the serendipitous mix of the right mood with the right folks at the right time. The drink list seemed a bit over the top but we were ripe for a bit of whimsy. I was quickly reassured; the waitstaff was pleasantly down to earth, and the menu seemed unpretentious without much detail regarding the provenance of the parsnip. So, as we slowly enjoyed our lubricants and the exquisite cheese plate (each selection with a paired jam condiment), we were informed of specials. Just a few. Pork is a specialty but I'm not a big meat guy, until I heard "cassoulet" and the country French warmth of the evening seemed destined to last. It was a very special night.

Went to chez on a Saturday night with old friends. Made a reservation for 7:30 thinking that we would be able to enjoy a leisurely dinner over a wonderful French meal. I had read about and heard a lot of good things about the place, and was very excited! I am an avid cook with a food-related business and couldn't wait! Having said all of this... The food was good but underwhelming. Maybe I gave the place too much hype. Ok fine... What I did not imagine was the atrocious service and snarky, put off attitude of our server, and the lack of attention to our table even though the place was not busy. At the end of the night, which was around 9:30, we were made to feel like we were inconveniencing the staff by being there. Needless to say, I will not come here again. Even if I choose to ignore the shortcomings of the food and decor, the way the staff in the dining room made us feel was a crime considering the price we paid to eat there. Very disappointing although it could easily be fixed by replacing the ogres dressed as servers. ...

I ate here for the first time several years back with a really good friend. We were about to graduate and decided that we needed to celebrate. Getting great food seemed like the way to go. I don't remember exactly what I got, except for the dessert (bread pudding), but I do remember how I felt afterwards ... I didn't want to eat for at least the next 24 hours because I wanted to hold on to what I had just experienced. I did not dare taint that. Chez Pascal continues to be my favorite restaurant in Rhode Island. I've never quite gotten the initial feeling back, but it still never disappoints. Always a very delicious experience.

Having been to Chez Pascal several times, I have found myself on more than one occasion slipping into auto-pilot when it comes to ordering. It's because I know how good it can be, and I want to recreate that experience with each and every visit. Appetizing myself with either the exquisite escargots that are broiled to buttery perfection in their garlic and herb glory (and served with the shells removed, which makes things a whole lot easier for Yours Truly), or the fresh and always delightful goat cheese salad (which happens to have friend goat cheese on it, but whatever) I am always off to a fabulous start, and almost too full to fully revel in the gloriousness of what comes next... ...Which is usually the trio of pork, or the pork special, or anything that is pork-oriented. You see, kids, Chef Matt Gennuso is absolute genius when it comes to preparing pork, so I stick with him through each and every iteration he's inspired to execute. And I'm never, ever disappointed. For desert, I order something chocolaty and Frenchie. Their desserts are really not to be missed - and I am honestly not a huge dessert person, kids. But there is something about sharing a thick, creamy mousse in a dimly-lit French restaurant that feels right, so I go for it. The one thorn in my side about Chez Pascal would be the service. It can be terribly slow, or unfortunately spacey. However, they're great at helping you select your wine, and always very friendly.

This restaurant is indeed my favorite restaurant in greater Providence. I'm NEVER disappointed. The staff (which hardly ever turns over) is super knowledgeable from the bartender to the runner, the ingredients on each plate or mixed drink can be poetically described to the point of mouth watering want. The mussels special with white wine and house-made sausage and Maine rock shrimp was phenomenal and the 5-cheese plate is always served with appropriate accoutrements and the cheeses are either local or small batch artisan beauties. The entrees always scream french with the beautiful sauces and slow cooked braised meats - the charcuterie is best here comparatively. They do a wonderful job all around - Chez Pascal is a perfect date spot or foodie haven.

I've been twice. The first time was at a table in the dining room. The server was rude and dismissive towards us, as if we were a nuisance, but the food was excellent. The second time was in the Wurst Kitchen and everything was perfect. Great server, to-die-for food, good drinks, and excellent company. I will come again for the Wurst Kitchen, and possibly for the dining room as long as I don't so the horrid server who ruined date night.

OK, I have to start out by saying I had high expectations. I've heard from several reputable sources that this is one of the best restaurants in the PVD. Considering the difficulty getting a reservation on a Friday night, this sounded right. My cocktail was great (I got something with gin) and my appetizer was also great. I had the escargot which was drowned in garlic butter - yum! The cheese plate was also wonderful. What was disappointing was my entree. I got swordfish which was room temperature and served with cold tomatoes that appeared they were supposed to be warm. I rarely tell the server that something is wrong with my dish, but I couldn't not say something here (actually my brother did, sensing my disappointment). The waiter explained the tomatoes were not supposed to be hot -- but if this was truly the case, it should be explained on the menu or when the item is ordered because it clearly does not appear it SHOULD be this way. He explained the fish would be taken back and heated moderately, as the chef did not want to dry the fish. It was lukewarm when it came back. I can appreciate not drying out the fish, but I've never had cold, dry swordfish anywhere else. Other establishments have figured out how to cook it, so I'm not sure why CP wasn't able to? Finally, I am choosing to believe it is my own, because otherwise I would not be able to go back... but I found a hair both on the outside of my cocktail glass as well as on one of my plates. I haven't found a hair in my food in years, it seems impossible to have happened twice in one night at such a reputable location. So, nothing was said because again, I am choosing to believe it was my own. We were full by the end of the meal and my two dining companions were happy with their meals. I'd like to go back for drinks and desert at some point, because the desert sounded amazing. I'm just not sure I'm willing to give this place another shot at full meals.

Have visited twice so far... Both times were excellent. First: full dinner, everything perfectly prepared and delicious. sat inside which was nice, and we had the whole "place" to ourselves. 2nd visit: dessert and drinks at the bar. Had the Tasting of 3 French custards. Sooo good! Especially the salted caramel. Everyone was friendly and provided great service on each visit. Love that we live so close by!

I always had the impression that Chez Pascale was very upscale, but the prices are pretty reasonable, even with appetizers and wine thrown in. The main dishes were good, but I really loved the bread they served (fresh and tasted homemade!) and the cheese plate was awesome- I love that they put little pairings together. It's worth going for the plate with 5 different types of cheese. Walked in earlyish on a weeknight and had no problem getting a seat.

I could expend myself charming you with mouthfuls of well-seasoned confessions from Chez Pascal, but their reputation for fine French food using local ingredients and deft preparations is already ironclad. But where their inventiveness in the kitchen ends, their entrepreneurship is just beginning, and that's where their real strength lies: Starting first with their high-end hot dog cart, then sidewalk seating, followed up by almost criminally delicious sandwiches served from their Hewtin's Mobile, Matt and Kristin are pushing the envelope again with the "Wurst Window"--feeding eager Providencers right through a hole in the side of their restaurant. Rolling their hot dog cart and food truck offerings into one snappy little menu, you can chomp down on anything from a Rabbit-Dijon dog to their supremely well-crafted meatloaf sandwich. And why stop there. While the Wurst Window serves the East Side tadpoles during the day, the owners have their eye on attracting more night-dwellers too by constructing a mini dining bar right inside their restaurant, complete with a standalone kitchenette, a butcher block counter that seats four, and two tables for six lined with low bar stools. They obviously understand that most aren't in the market to spend $100+ on dinner for two and that by serving their daytime menu in-house, they stand to attract more locals looking for a tasty, affordable lunch or dinner. Paired with a drink, you can expect to get an amazing meal for under $20. It's very smart. Bien fait.

My first visit to Chez Pascal left me feeling heavy and oily, but last night I had a delightful dinner there. Some dos and dont's (admittedly based on a small number of trials, but here goes): DO order wine from the "unique and wonderful" category, asking for the waiter's recommendation. Our dining companions have had good luck with this, and last night's red was extremely fun and tasty. DO order the fish. Last night there was a great John Dorie, rich but light. DON'T get the meat, if you want to leave feeling like you didn't just eat a baby. DON'T get the Sauterne. A good Sauterne is the best dessert wine out there; this stuff was what gives dessert wine a bad name. The local greens salad and cheese plate were very well-composed. I love that PVD has such great cheese plates!

Chez Pascal is definitely is one of my favorite place in Providence. After we had made the reservation, we studied the menu and went there by knowing what to eat. And it was a good work. Let the tasting ceremony begin.... We started with legendary escargots with garlic. The garlic was so strong that you could smell before it reached your table. But it was so good. Then we shared half duck and it was very well cooked, nice combination of the ingredients. Literally, amazing is the word that describes it . The difficult part was the desert, since I wanted to taste all of them But I decided to have the pear upside down cake. It was absolutely delicious but it was too big for me after I had eaten the escargots and the duck. But the blue cheese went well with the cake. The wine was terrific, the service was good, all people in the restaurant were very friendly and the ambiance was allright. And 4 star go to Chez Pascal...

Dined here on this past Saturday evening. We were the last guests for the evening (9:30 reservation), but the staff were cheerful and fantastic. Nice, cozy atmosphere great for couples. And the food was great as well with very generous portions. - Starters: onion soup, and a special (roasted mussels in a soffrito with aioli). Onion soup was among the best we've had and the roasted mussels had great flavor. - Mains: really wanted to try the roasted sea bass, but it was no longer available. Had the roasted chicken instead, which was crisp on the outside and incredibly juicy and flavorful on the inside. We also had the seared scallops, which were very nicely cooked, though the accompanying corncakes and diced tomatoes didn't seem to work quite as well. - Dessert: trio of French custards-- amazingly creamy and delicious. I called ahead because it was my partner's birthday and asked if the staff could put a candle in his dessert, and sure enough, they made sure to bring out the custards with a lighted candle. The other staff working at the bar also wished my partner happy birthday as we were leaving... very nice touch. In all, terrific people and good food makes Chez Pascal definitely worth a visit in Providence. Thanks to everyone there who made it an enjoyable evening!

This may be my new favorite restaurant in Providence. I really don't know where to start. I went for a friends birthday party and was blown away. If I've ever had food with such attention to detail then I don't remember when. It started with some Pork Croquets (they occasionally have these on their food truck!) which were really good. Then I had a cured salmon appetizer of some kind because I never get that sort of thing and I was in heaven. My main course was a "Pork Duo" of Pork Belly and Pork belly. It was amazing. I really liked the atmosphere too. I'm not usually at a loss for words in a review but I don't know how to capture the total experience. It was the kind of meal that makes you feel like a celebrity. Unexpected and delicious.

There aren't enough superlatives for me to use to describe this place. First, let me talk about the comfort I feel whenever I go there. We are always greeted warmly by either the owner or a host/hostess. We usually sit at the bar and the bartender is perfect - chats with us enough, but is never intrusive. He (and seemingly all of the other employees) is very passionate and knowledgeable about the food. It's so wonderful when a server or bartender can recommend their favorite dishes and guide you towards something delicious. OK, on to the food. This is food that's prepared with love. I would recommend getting the pork special of the day. The sausages are all homemade, and typically the special pairs that along with another pork preparation. Everything is always seasoned and cooked to perfection. Our favorite dessert embodies this restaurant perfectly - the pear upside down cake with caramel and blue cheese. You might be thinking that blue cheese in a dessert is repulsive, but believe me, the combination of the salty cheese and sweet caramel with the cake will blow your mind. Even the salads are beautifully presented and creative. Another thing to note is that this restaurant gets almost all of it's meat and produce locally, and if you subscribe to their email newsletter you'll begin to learn exactly where. It's great to know that the meat you're eating was raised locally and not shipped in from somewhere a thousand miles away. Hands down, this is my favorite restaurant in Providence.

My poor husband- sometimes he is just so deprived. What I mean by that is he is restaurant-deprived. Specifically, he is deprived of dining at restaurants that I deem as totally vegan-unfriendly. My husband is a meat-eater, big-time, but he is so good as to not ask me to go to places where it is unlikely I will get a good vegan, low-gluten meal. Therefore, there's a long list of Rhode Island restaurants my carnivorous hubby is dying to go to but hasn't had the chance to because his vegan wife won't let him.:) But every once in a blue moon, the stars align in just such a way that my husband is able to go to a restaurant that I wouldn't necessarily approve of due to the lack of vegan options. This rare occasion actually occurred on a recent Saturday night, when my husband and I joined a group of friends at well-reputed Chez Pascal, a French-American bistro in Providence. Whenever my husband and I toss around restaurant options, my husband doesn't even dare bring up Chez Pascal because of the simple fact that most French restaurants are not vegan or even vegetarian-friendly. However, since friends of ours invited us to join them there, my husband was all over it because he has been dying to go there and try some of the things they are most known for- escargot and duck. I wasn't sure how I would fare but was up for the challenge of working with the existing menu to craft myself a decent meal. As expected, there were no explicitly vegan options on the menu, but my eyes spotted a butternut squash salad with cabbage, feta and croutons. I figured I could easily veganize and de-glutenize it with a few small changes. I asked the waitress if they could prep the salad without feta and the croutons, and add beets and walnuts (which I spotted on a different salad on the menu). At first, she hesitated, saying she had to check with the chef if the flavors would work together. In other words, she was unsure if the chef would allow his salad to be altered. Then, she sort of changed her tune and said it shouldn't be a problem. Personally, I understand that oftentimes, chefs have a vision for their food and don't want that vision to be corrupted, but at the same time, I thought it was a bit strange such a request could not be accommodated without hesitation since the additional components were things on other salads off the menu. Chez Pascal's menu did not have a section of sides, so I asked if they had fries, or frites. They weren't listed on the menu, and it turns out they have no fry-o-later- therefore, they had no fries. I then requested a side of roasted veggies (which I noticed were part of another entree) and the waitress said it wouldn't be a problem. I have to give props to the waitress- I could tell she wanted to do the best to accommodate me but that she was unsure as to how the kitchen would react to my requests. When the salad came, I was visually blown away. It was a gorgeous mound of red and white cabbage, butternut squash, beets, candied walnuts and greens. Fortunately, the salad lived up to its image in the taste department. All the veggies were in their ideal state: the beets were tender, the squash perfectly roasted and the cabbage nice and crisp. The dressing was sweet and tangy, and the nuts added the right amount of crunch. Just like the salad, the side of veggies presented was gorgeous. And like the salad, the veggies tasted as good as they looked! Not only were there onions and a bunch of root veggies, but there were what I believe to be pumpkin seeds in the mix too! Delicious isn't even enough of a word to describe how good they were! I had a great meal at Chez Pascal. . . I would certainly return there with friends, but I don't think I would ever choose to go there myself only because vegan and gluten-free options are limited. I don't blame the restaurant though- obviously it never intended itself to be vegan-friendly. . . I mean, it's a French bistro after all!

This is my favorite restaurant in Rhode Island. We ordered the charcuterie and cheese platter to start and it was great. It is truly amazing that all of the items are made in house. That makes the selection and flavor even more remarkable. Also huge points for everything being local (apparently EVERYTHING is locally bought). I had the duck confit and it was so amazing. My mouth waters just thinking about it. It was cooked perfectly and had a great sweet/savory factor (I believe there was a fig component that was to die for). We also had a trio of mini creme brulee, which were apparently seasonal flavors. The tomato basil, and sweet corn flavors were surprisingly delicious. The only complaint was that we couldn't order another, larger sweet corn creme brulee (believe me, we asked). The waiter was a bit curmudgeonly, but as my friend from LA said affectionately, "It makes us feel like we are in a great restaurant in LA or NYC, not RI." And Chez Pascal is certainly a great restaurant.

The food is phenomenal. You can taste how much love the chef puts into every plate. I left feeling wayyyyyyy too full since eerything tasted so delicious and I overate. My advice is this - SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT! If you need to forego the apps, do it, because the dessert is eclectic and worth savoring. The scallops are unreal and the duck is hands-down the best ever. And if you believe you can handle apps, main and dessert, I recommend the escargot or the charcuterie plate.

Probably my new favorite restaurant in Providence. Just wished I had tried them sooner since they've been around for years. These guys work miracles with pig!! I'd recommend them to anyone who really enjoys French cuisine.

I can't write a positive enough review of Chez Pascal. The food is outstanding. I've never eaten anything here that wasn't totally delicious; in fact, everything is so good that I'm stumped to recommend a particular item off the menu. My go to entree tends to be the steak, but it's not unusual that I forgo the incredibly delicious steak for another delicious entree, and I'm never disappointed. Definitely don't pass up the house made sausage (assuming there is one) in the appetizers; it's always outstanding, no matter what is in it. Also, I'm not big on dessert, but it's always worth getting here...I agree with the previous recommendation for the pear upside down cake...Also, anything containing seasonal fruit will not disappoint. The bourbon list is great, and the cocktail list has something for everyone and offers surprisingly inexpensive options. But unquestionably the best thing about Chez Pascal is how friendly everyone there is, and how unpretentious the space feels. Fine dining is a very occasional treat for me, and I often feel like an imposter in nice restaurants. Walking into Chez Pascal feels like walking into an old friend's house - everyone is greeted with a big smile, and conversation between diners and employees (and owners) is never awkward. I really can't write enough nice things about the people there...It's the best food you've ever eaten combined with the comfort of your favorite neighborhood pub.

Oddly, I had exactly the opposite experience of the earlier reviewer, when i went in at 9pm on a Monday to Chez Pascal. And Monday's are notorious for days service industry workers don't want to be there! Walked in, was greeted promptly and taken to a table. Was poured water and offered drinks. Waiter didn't seem put off when we just stuck to water. Ran through the features of the night, and gave us time to order. We ordered the charcuterie board, the escargot, and the duck all the split. He nicely asked if i wanted it in 2 or three courses. I gave him the option, and he picked the 3 courses, which was nice because it gave us time to enjoy each course. The charcuterie was all amazing. The things that the Chef can do with a pig is impressive! I love how each came with its own personalize accoutrement to really bring out the flavors. My fave was the pork rillete, with the duck liver mousse being a close second. So silky! Escargot were boiling hot and covered with crunchy, garlicky, buttery goodness. And the duck came out split on to two plate for me and my gentleman to share. I love when restaurants do this. After finishing we were offered a dessert menu, and choose the chocolate tasting. AMAZING! The banana dome thing was phenomenal. And the molten chocolate cake was gooey and amazing. Probably left around 1015, never being made to feel rushed, and really enjoyed a fabulous meal. I don't know why i don't come here more often. And the truck just opened u p, so now can get hot dogs across the street in the park!

This place was not good. I went during restaurant week. My friend had a piece of hair in her dessert. Again hair in dessert during restaurant week?!? The dish I had was just ok, not great. I would not want to go back.

I noticed this place and passed it by many times. Finally one day I gave it a shot. It wasn't great and it wasn't bad. The food was a little on the bland side. Our waitress gave all her other tables more attention. I'm guessing they were regulars. All and all not horrible, but there are way too many great restaurants in this town for me to return.

I can't say anything that hasn't already been said; Providence is so fortunate to have Chez Pascal. Fresh, bright flavors, seasonal ingredients, excellent execution and attention to detail- everything is always perfect. The end result is so much more exciting than the menu description leads me to believe - it's so often the other way around. The service is friendly and competent, but not the speediest, so don't come if you're in a rush. Sometimes your water glass may go unfilled, (and sometimes the waiter will flirt with your mom- ewwww) but that's a minor quible and really the only negative thing I can say. Vegetarians will be very well taken care of here. The mid-week prix-fixe is an outstanding deal.

I ordered the lamb shank on the specials. It was slow cooked in low temperature - meat was so juicy and just fell off the bone. Very well balanced dish with the sides and sauce. Some reviews here said the dishes are heavy and oily. Not true with the lamb shank. Mine was simply delicious. House wine was also a worthy mentioning compliment. For dessert - I ordered pear upside down cake with blue cheese, walnuts, caramel sauce and creme fraiche. At first I was hesitant about blue cheese on my cake? But wow - I was so glad I tried. All ingredients just worked. Cake was soft and warm; sauce sweet and buttery; creme fraiche creamy and cold; and blue cheese made everything pop. Way sweeter than my taste but if I want to indulge myself, this cake is a great choice. Romantic and cozy atmosphere. Friendly staff. What a pleasant surprise to my Providence trip! Will definitely go back again.

I finally got to try Chez Pascal during restaurant week and I am so glad I did! I absolutely loved everything I ate and drank during this meal. Every flavor was delectable and I found myself stuffed but wanting more! The restaurant is a cozy little space that would be good for a date or out with a couple of friends. When one of my companions was unsure of which wine she wanted to order the server gladly offered her a sampling. Our waiter was kind but a little bit in his own world. I would definitely go back. Especially now that I know I need to try some of their pork.

Why 5 Stars? *The Restaurant strives on getting locally grown foods (some of the cheese is from Farmstead) *The pork is out of this world (be brave, the tasty stuff is in the marrow) *The waitstaff is super friendly as well as the bar staff *When I think French cuisine this place sticks out *They even have a sandwich truck. Enough Said. Check it out on twitter. **** twitter.com/chezpascal**…

What a pleasurable evening. The meal took a while - of course, it's not a fast food restaurant! We savored a bottle of wine and loved the beet appetizer - next time I will have to try the cheese platter - it looked awesome. There were only a few dishes on the menu, and as I ate, I realized the care that went into each detail of each dish. I love it that this is a small restaurant owned by a couple and that each dish is a labor of love. I had the vegetarian dish (I forgot its name): an open pastry with lots of veggies inside, and my lover had the to-die-for scallops (Ha! Yes, I did just say that!). And we finally had the oh-so-gosh-darn-delicious chocolate platter for desert. Yums!

I went to this restaurant because it came highly rated from a friend who frequently visits the establishment. Upon reading the classical French menu, I knew it was a must try for me. This restaurant was great... It was cute, homey, and generally felt warm. The dining room wasn't overcrowded or loud. There was a nice mix of interesting people seated around us. This is a place for DINING, so if you are looking for super fast and impersonal service, do not come here. The menu has a variety of different proteins offered. I am particularly fond of the cheese and charchuterie starters. Be sure to check out the cheeses featured f the day, you can preview them on your way in. they come with a lot of yummy accoutrement's. A lot of the appetizers are seafood, which is not something I order often, but classic escargot, and other French standards are on the list. Entrees are varied, and the Restaurant is known for its pork products. They buy whole hogs and break them down to make fresh cuts of meat, particularly popular are their homemade sausages. I ordered the duck, and my boyfriend ordered the steak special. The duck came out perfectly cooked, with a great crispy crust (if you don't eat med-rare duck breast be sure to indicate a temperature) and was accompanied by a lovely berry reduction, and classic French potatoes. The steak special was also delicious, as my boyfriend ate every bite. The wines are well selected. The service is timely and servers are generally knowledgeable. I recommend making reservations, especially on weekends. Parking is limited in the area so give yourself some time to find a spot and walk over. We ended up spending roughly $70pp, with 2 courses and 2 drinks each, so if you are on a budget, I'd recommend limiting your drinks or cutting a course. If you have a weakness for French cuisine, I would certainly recommend this place. It was a great meal, with great company...

As we entered the cozy little restaurant, I laughed over the crazy rabbit placard above the door. Welcoming atmosphere and delicious food. The roasted littleneck clams were a bit overly salty but still tasty with some wine. The fresh octopus and calamari salad was the highlight of my meal and I totally recommend it! The skate wing was too salty; the pork of the day was decent but not write home worthy. The highly recommended braised red cabbage salad with blue cheese Flan was a burst of flavors and lived up to its reputation. Go for a date or with a group of friends...or with your toddler as the couple next to us did.

been here a few times so the 5 star rating is an overall score for just being one of the best and most original restaurants, not only in providence, but anywhere south of boston (not that they couldn't be included in bos. just closer to a lot of the southcoast). but i really want to emphasize the new addition, the wurst kitchen, in this review. this addition has 16 seats, 4 at the bar/counter, and 2 communal bars with 3 seats on each side. if you're familiar with their food truck, hewtin's, then you already know some of the items available. on my visit we had the saeurbraten with veggie cakes and horseradish cream. awesome. one of their sausages, with sweet mustard and remoulade. again all very tasty. their pig in a blanket with mustard. yup. and someone had the crepe dessert with candied carrot and quince paste or something. the plate went back empty. great service too. sit at the counter and watch everything being cooked and plated. if you've ever been to DBGB's this is your place. oh, and i heard they get packed on saturday afternoons, so get there early.

Oh yum! We recently discovered them, and were very sorry to have waited so long to go there. Delightful, suave French atmosphere, impeccable service, and phenomenal food, from appetizers right to desserts. You must eat here. Right up there with Al Forno and La Laiterie in my book. Desserts are good enough to stand on their own, including pear upside down cake with Gorgonzola and marscapone, rosemary custard, and molten chocolate cake with sea salt. nice looking bar also, though we did not sit at the bar. They are right across the street from a park where the Sat AM Farmer's Market is, and every monday they have a special menu using items based solely on what they can get directly from the Market and/or the farmers themselves. also, they have a HOT DOG CART in the same park, yummy dogs with all relishes and condiments made in their kitchen. Not expensive, but delightful to grab a couple dogs, sit in the park, and contemplate how wonderful life can be. The Chez Pascal Hot Dog Cart, Hewtin's Dogs is located in the park across the street from the restaurant. It is out Monday - Saturday, 11:30am - 4:30pm, weather permitting

Most of the time when we dine out we are simply patrons of a restaurant. We sit down, order our nice food, maybe chat with some friends or loved ones, pay our bill and then we head home, happy for the meal we've just had, but often indifferent about it one way or the other. Other times the restaurant takes on a personality of its own, it transports you to a different place or time, and your experience with the place is just as satisfying as any company you could have. For me, Chez Pascal transcended the typical restaurant experience. The food wasn't the best, but was very good, and only a part of what made this one of the most memorable dining experiences I've had, even though I had to do it without my favorite dining companion. The only thing that would have made it better would be to see her face as she enjoyed the dishes alongside me, because I have a feeling Nicole would have loved it even more than me. The atmosphere was incredibly charming and welcoming ( flickr.com/photos/wedoit… ) with beautiful little decorative accents spread throughout. It was relatively quiet the night that I went, which was apparently just one night after a big 5 course special dinner they had put featuring different types of tomatoes, bummer. The bar area however was very lively, and the owner Kristen repeatedly bounced between there and the dining room to chat with people. We talked for quite a while several times, and it felt like she was genuinely interested in me as a guest rather than a customer. She even shared her playlist with me that had been going since I walked in, featuring some great songs by Carla Bruni, so fitting for this place. My waiter, Seth, was also extremely helpful in assisting me with my course selection, as literally everything on the menu sounded like something I would love. I ended up starting out with the Escargots à la Bourguignonne with warm garlic and parsley in Pernod butter served with scented brioche ( flickr.com/photos/wedoit… ), because if you can't get great escargots in a French restaurant, where can you? They absolutely did not disappoint. There was a generous amount of the wonderfully flavored butter, the snails were a really plump size, and the brioche was toasted perfectly ( flickr.com/photos/wedoit… ). Normally a dish this rich can get repetitive quickly, but I wholly enjoyed each and every bite. There was no question what I would be ordering as my main course when I read the description of the duck ( flickr.com/photos/wedoit… ). They slow roast a half duck, part of it filleted and part done confit style, serve it with a shoe string potato gratin, buttered corn and hericot verts in a sour cherry sauce. This was at the time, and is still to this day, my favorite preparation of duck, from any restaurant. Both preparations were fantastic. The filet portion was cooked perfectly, with a sizable amount of rarity still on the bird, and one of the best skin / fat layers I've ever had on any meat. The confit half though blew me away. Duck confit is generally speaking one of my favorite things in the world to eat, so to have it done so expertly made me happy inside like a kid getting a new toy. The accompanying parts of this dish were no afterthought either. The potato gratin was particularly good, and when paired with the confit made an unbelievable bite of food. The corn surprised me, as I'm not usually a fan, but I liked this version, and I've always preferred haricot verts to traditional green beans so it was a nice surprise seeing them included here. The sour cherry sauce did a great job of tying all the flavors together, providing just a hint of fruitiness, but overall just a rich dark flavor that was pervasive in each bite. Deciding what to have for dessert was probably the most difficult choice of the night, because everything sounded not only creative, but delicious. I usually love to try uniquely flavored ice creams, so that was the deciding factor for me when I picked the local plum crumble with sweet dough, strawberry sauce and lavender ice cream served with fresh blackberries. It was advertised as rhubarb crumble, which would have been even more appealing, but apparently they had just gone out of season, and the plum still served as a nice substitute. Much like everything else that night, the presentation was somewhat whimsical ( flickr.com/photos/wedoit… ), while still maintaining the most basic aspects of the ingredients. I adored the ice cream, it was playful but still true to the flavors, and it could stand at both the forefront, but also act as a nice companion to the crumble, which also happened to be cooked to perfection. I finished everything off with a delightful cappuchino ( flickr.com/photos/wedoit… ), a rare treat for me after dinner. The biggest shock of the night? It was all under $50, wow.

Wow! This was definitely better than expected. Service was great (though we were early in the nite and our waiter didn't yet have the specials down, we laughed through his explanations). We did have a reservation, and we were glad that we did as the place filled up very quickly. Atmosphere: Cozy. They do art installations/showings for local artists, so the current decor wasn't really my style (was a bit loud for the restaurant's atmosphere) but not so discordant as to detract from the meal. The tables are small and very tightly packed, not a big deal, but also not a lot of elbow room. Check your coat when they offer. Starters: We had the selection of 3 cheeses. They were very accurately described, Served well (though I think that the tomato chutney would go better with something non-cheesy) and ultimately well enjoyed. Mains: DH got the pork special, I got the duck. The pork was served 3 ways: roast loin, braised rib meat and pan seared medallions. Served with house-made spaetzle and oven roasted broccoli. The pork was perfectly cooked, and the broccoli WILL be emanated at home. The duck was served 2 ways: a roast leg quarter with crisped skin and a beautifully prepared breast. Served with a red-wine balsamic, potatoes and a glazed brussel sprouts-turnip medley. The duck was absolutely mouth-watering. Of comment, there was something extremely odd about the texture of the potatoes, as though they had forced them through a seive or added raw flour for consistency...they were strangely flat in a very vibrant tasting meal. Dessert: Though thoroughly full, we opted for the trio of custards. While I don't think I will repeat coffee custard, or chocolate espresso custard, the caramel custard with sea salt was amazing (I wish I could get 3 of those). Wine/beverages: The wine list was so-so. The by-the-glass selection was short (which is a letdown for a date nite when you don't agree on wines) and the spirits were just short of top shelf (no Hendrick's for example). Overall, the experience was wonderful, and we plan to return.

Call me trashy, but I like their wiener mobile almost as much as their high class french restaurant. OK, so the Chez Pascal on wheels has delicious gourmet sandwiches that kick the asses of those Del's lemonade joints anyday, but can one restaurant be good at both fast food and uh... slow food? The answer is.. yeah.. pretty much. Our first visit was on valentines day. I've been to pretty much all of the french joints around the city, at least the reputable ones. As it turns out, everyone you know ALSO goes to chez pascal on valentines day. So consider it a romantic hotspot. There was a special menu for the night and I got steak, my boyfriend got chicken. Our vegetables and purees were all cooked to perfection. My boyfriend loved his chicken, I thought it was OK. My steak however was pretty top notch. Everything on the menu sounded completely amazing, it was very hard to pick, and since it was V-day, the whole place was jazzed up romantic-like with little hearts on the tables and whatnot. Our reservations were late-ish and we ran way past closing time, but they didn't boot us out or rush us in the least. Chez Pascal is certainly one of the top and most reputable restaurants in Providence, so it's worth trying it out and expanding your palate.

Just finished a pretty perfect evening at Chez Pascal. The service was wonderful, and the food was incredible! We started with the cheese plate - each was served with a different complementary compote/jam - and couldn't help but finish every last bite. I had the beet salad which was incredible; my husband had the butternut squash chowder which was also fantastic. For our main courses, my husband had the monkfish and I went with the duck. it was basically the best duck I've ever had....made me pretty sad that I was getting too full to finish the whole dish. The desserts sounded so unique we couldn't help ourselves....the pear upside-down cake with blue cheese, caramel and creme fraiche, and the carrot cake terrine with dill ice cream were both really great. They definitely leaned more toward the savory side of dessert than we were used to, but you just can't help but appreciate the flavor combinations! Definitely check out Chez Pascal - you won't be disappointed!

Each time I eat here a leave feeling disappointed. Although the chef is skillful, the cooking and menu are formulaic. Once you realize there are several basic templates and ingredients are simply shifted in, depending on the season, it is quite boring. Don't go on a weekday evening after 8:00 PM if you want to have a leisurely meal. They begin taking down the tables as the time goes on (something that would never happen in France) and you begin to feel that the staff is counting the seconds until you put your fork down. Service rushed. Waitperson unfriendly and unhelpful.

Yes. yes. yes. I could hardly decide what to try, everything sounded amazing. The dishes are seasonal and creative, but also they didn't taste like poo, and for a simple palate that's all that matters. Perfect if you want to impress a date or visitors, or if you want to embarrass your friend who doesn't know how to pronounce "ragout". Yes to everything we ordered, but especially dessert... better than Pastiche. This is definitely the best place I've been to in Providence, and I appreciate the vegetarian options which were equally inventive as the meat variety. The only no was the awkward waiter, but he was mostly harmless. I wouldn't even take away a star. Tucked away on the East Side means not having to deal with downtown parking, earning an extra point in my mind.

THE BEST FRENCH CUISINE YOU HAVEN'T HAD YET. That's the only way I can describe the food here. The chef, Matt Gennuso, is a mad genius when it comes to his dishes---especially the desserts---and his talent and creativity in the kitchen are unrivaled: a pristine lemon chiffon torte topped with avocado ice cream, anyone? Or how 'bout creme caramel with basil and sweet tomato compote? Can't decide? No worries. Both are magnificent! The seasonal menu and wine list are perfectly curated and the staff knows them well (try the reds Hochar and Poulsard if and while you can). Note: This restaurant takes GREAT pride in its local farm fresh cuisine and ALWAYS puts in the requisite time to make and serve it properly, so take the opportunity to slow down and relax while your food is prepared!

It's not the best restaurant in Providence, but it's close. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. The food is well prepared nicely presented and delicious. The menu is somewhat limited - not offering a great deal of variety, but everything we tried was very good. The wine list is fairly extensive. Unfortunately, although the ambiance is welcoming, the service we experienced was rather frosty. Our waiter and his colleagues would not win any awards for congeniality. Not to mention - picking up the signed check to presumably review the tip while your guests are still sitting at the table is a big faux pas. We'll be back, but we'll make sure that we don't have the same waiter.

In short, Chez Pascal makes my heart skip a beat and always has. From the very first time my fiancee and I ventured through the doors to expand our restaurant repertoire to every subsequent time following, it has always remained tops in our book. It's one of those places that I love so much that I want to keep it all to myself - but the food here is too good to not share! The menu changes with the seasons and the chef & lady of the house are intimately involved in the local food scene by way of farmer's markets, cooperatives, and local artisans. They strive to keep their food honest and top notch and do so by making a lot of stuff in-house: chacuterie, sausages, pates, pickled items, relishes, mustards, etc. The chef, Matt Gennuso, gets a whole hog each week and does the butchering himself - he's quite passionate about the pig and if you're a first timer to the restaurant then I recommend trying his local pork of the day; the waiter or waitress will fill you in on what it is when they come to tell you about the specials. My favorite item on the menu is the duck and it just about brings a tear to my eye every time. The skin on the leg confit is crisped to perfection and the fat layer underneath is liquified and explodes with flavor in your mouth! The duck breast is sliced into perfect rosy medallions that are both tender and flavorful. The reduction sauce on the duck changes from time to time to keep the dish relevant to the season; the accompaniments also change. The salads and soups on the menu change seasonally and are always worth a try as are the desserts. The wine list is excellent and the cocktails are very well made (the bartender is really amazing!). The waitstaff are incredible and serve to enhance the atmosphere - they are knowledgable so don't be afraid to pick their brains if you've got a question about a particular item or bottle/glass of wine; they have never steered me in a bad direction. In closing: The food is honest, thoughtful & prepared with great care, and the dishes are consistent from one trip to the next. A must for sure if you're a foodie! Try the pear upside down cake for dessert, you won't be disappointed! extra credit: The hot dog cart located across the street in Lippit Park in the afternoons is run by the restaurant as is the lunch truck called Hewtin's Dogs mobile - give them a try as they are both delicious!

I hate to disagree, but everything seemed to be a near miss on our recent visit. The Selection of House Pâtés and Charcuterie was all Pâtés and Terrines, lacking the texture and contrast of a few selections from the cured family of Charcuterie. The pork of the day was well prepared but the sweet sauce overwhelmed its natural flavor. The grilled fennel which came with it, while lovely to look at, was cut long wise and not quite young enough to escape being fibrous. Finally, our dessert of crumble-topped tart was a bit too much crumble and pastry dough for the half inch of fruit sandwiched between. The chef is talented, but it all just felt like it needed a bit of editing and restraint: half the Pâté, half the sauce, and half the crumble would have made for a far better experience.

food like this would easily be in the $30-50 price range per entree in NYC. the menu is creative. the bistro menu/sampler is wonderful with good wine, tasteful presentation of entrees and an interesting selection of desserts. beautiful pork dish, wonderful bisque, i had the profiterole which i was not entirely crazy about but it was certainly good. the bistro menu changes every week and seems to have nothing to do with the regular menu, and it's only $35 for everything -- i think $40 or $45 with a glass of wine. it's totally a steal. atmosphere is old school/old wealth classy, which is fine, and should not detract from the overall experience, even if you're new skool and hip like all the cool kids are these days.

My quest to try all of the best restaurants in and around Providence took a turn for the fantastic! Chez Pascal is everything you expect from a fine dining experience without being stuffy or uppity. The entree menu is straight forward, you seriously cannot go wrong. A vegetarian dish, a few seafood selections, a pork, a duck, a beef and a chicken selection. The food is second to none and the service is very courteous and attentive without being intrusive. You should go. I will be back!

Delicious, scrumptious and yet delicate. The pork of the day rarely disappoints. Avoid the cheese or cold cut platter as it tends to be just OK and rather overpriced. The decor is nice but somewhat lacking in personality. The beer selection is usually very interesting. All in all, a very solid choice when you are looking to celebrate a good time and are willing to be pampered a little bit!

Lived in Providence for 5 months but only managed to make it once to Chez Pascal. The wait staff was attentive without being overbearing. The decor is lovely. My meal was pleasant enough but not memorable. So all in all, an a-ok meal but not the outstanding experience of other reviewers. Side note: My friend with whom I dined had eaten at Chez Pascal on two separate occasions: the first, she said, was amazing and the second (and the third, the meal with me) was average.

Wonderful food, excellent service, and terrific ambience make Chez Pascal an absolute gem. For appetizers, the selection and presentation of pates and cheeses were expertly prepared, as were the littlenecks. We sampled several entrees, including the duck in cherry sauce, bomster scallops with polenta, and The Bavette steak. All were absolutely flawless. Finally, the Pear upside-down cake with bleu cheese (yes, bleu cheese!) was out of this world. This is the type of restaurant where one can be comfortable in formal wear or jeans. Great for dates and friends alike.

A group of 6 of us went one evening and it was fabulous! Service was perfect. Our appetizers were good, everyone was happy with their entrees and dessert was out of this world. Can't wait to go again!

Food and service is always top notch. Do yourself a favor (unless you're a vegetarian I suppose?), and swing by the Wurst Window and order a Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf Sandwich. One of, if not the best sandwich of all time. Seriously.

This restaurant is simply fantastic - definitely a place for a special occasion. French food without the ridiculous pretension that is associated with it. The menu is limited, but this is because the chef works with only fresh and local ingredients. We had an appetizer of pâtés and charcuterie that were extremely tasty (though pâté is not my thing). My partner and I wanted to try the local pork of the day specialty, but apparently they did not have pork that day. Instead, we got duck and steak, which were cooked to perfection. Beautiful plating, amazing taste - exactly what you would expect from such a high class restaurant. The waiter recommended an excellent beer that paired well with the meal, and it was all just too delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and warm, the service was great, and the parking was plentiful (street parking in a cute Providence neighborhood). Will definitely be back again - special occasion is not even necessary.

Made it to the annual brunch today. This year I got aggressive and tried the housemade knockwurst patty sandwich with sauerkraut, Dijon and some awesome sauce. It was AMAZING. Food is the star but props to the bar - amazing warm port toddie to start and a German beer to pair with my sandwich. 10/10.

Lovely dining experience. Cozy and elegant decor. Excellent escargot and the fish entree I had was very good. I recommend this restaurant for a special occasion.

Great evening. Started with wine / cocktail (my wife's mixed drink had amazing blend of pineapple and pear), had delicious heirloom tomato salad and 3 cheese plate appetizer. For main course, had the duck, which was very nicely presented and tasty. Since the duck they had was small, they doubled my portion! Ended with 3 balls of sorbet - fig, pumpkin and raspberry - YUM! Service was very friendly, though a little slow at times (speed that up a bit and you get 5 stars!) Ambiance was warm and inviting. Would definitely go back!

Just had my second meal here- and it was as good, if not better than the first! My mother and i waited for a little while, but the girls on the desk were so nice and did not seem the least bit put off that we had decided to wait , as some seem. We shared a cabbage salad, a rabbit croquet and a pork casserole, and all i can say is YUMMMMM . Really i am at a loss for a better description. You should go-now, service was attentive, friendly and the food was perfect. I can't wait to go back, and wish i lived next door

An amazing French restaurant. First the staff is amazing. Personable and professional. For my appetizer I had the warm sautéed squid with feta and cucumber. Divine with the squid cooked perfectly. For my entre I had the seared bluefish with vegetables. Yummmmy! I may not live here, but I will remember!

Food - very good. worth returning for. Decor - mostly good, but won't make you return. I am, however, excited to try their 'Local Mondays" menu.

We tried this restaurant during Restaurant Week. It was ok, but just ok. I've had much better French food at other places. We felt like the staff treated their 'regulars' much better than us. The dessert was yummy, but otherwise the food was bland and 'just blah'.

Excellent menu and wine list. The vegetarian option was a lentil cake with roasted veggies, cooked to perfection. Cozy, inviting atmosphere in a small, busy restaurant.

I'm going to have to join the dissenters. I went here Saturday night for a pre-Valentine's day dinner and left sorely disappointed. It's never a good sign when you feel robbed when you get the bill. There were two good things about the meal - the service was impeccable though I wasn't overly impressed with our actual waiter and my sorbet cocktail was yummy. I cannot imagine ever giving Chez Pascal another try. The Saturday night before Valentine's Day should have a restaurant putting its best food forward, not mediocrity. I honestly think I would have been happier with a burrito from Chipotle. I started with the rabbit croquette, which was a bit bland. Hubby had the onion soup, and that was our first indicator that something was terribly wrong. A French restaurant with subpar onion soup is a bad omen. Hubby's steak was okay, and my cassoulet was downright bad. The beans were incredibly undercooked and the rest of the dish was bland. We finished with the sorbet, which was nowhere near as delicious as that I have experienced at La Laiterie or Gracie's. I won't be back. I am more inclined to give a restaurant with great food and poor service another whirl than a place with great service and bland, mediocre food.

I loved the atmosphere, the restaurant is located in a quiet neighborhood and we scored seats by the window. Great friendly service. The specials were out of this world, a beet and native Westport cheese salad started the evening off right. The pork was like little slices of salty heaven in my mouth. The duck was incredibly moist with a crisp skin. This was all washed down with my first negrini, excellent! The dessert was perfect for the season, a pumpkin flavored something or other! HA!

Your wallet might be a little soar when you leave but this is probably the best restaurant in Providence, maybe even the state of RI. Definitely in the top 5 and probably the best French place between Boston and New York. At least that I am aware of or have ever been to. Add in their focus on using local, seasonal ingredients and wonderful service and you are in for an amazing evening any time you go. If you or anyone you know really loves fine cheese or pork, they are also in for a special treat. They always have wonderful cheese selections and a daily and ever-changing pork special because the chef gets a full animal in on a regular basis. He uses the entire thing to make unique entrees and sausages that are out of this world. One other criticism about french restaurants can be tiny portions but this is more of a rustic/country french place that will not send you home hungry. Desserts are also fabulous! There is some VERY LIMITED outdoor seating but it is right on a main street, with relatively quick traffic and the park across the way is nothing special to look at.

Hands down some of the best food you will find in Providence, in one of the least pretentious environments. Kristin, the front-of-house portion of the Kristin-and-Matt-Gennuso married team, is one of the most welcoming people you will ever meet in your lifetime. Plus she knows her wine like you wouldn't believe. Stop by and you are in for a night of a knowledgeable and able waitstaff, top-notch wine, and incredible eats at the forefront of cuisine today, all in an atmosphere where you feel right at home. You'll surely want to go again, and, by the second time, Kristin will probably already be greeting you by name. A must-go-very-often in the ample Providence culinary world.

Amazingly delicious pork all the time. They have a pork du jour entry which has never dissapointed, as well as a sausage dujour, and a charcuterie platter that is the best in Providence. Their duck confit is also quite good and if you can get your hands on it in their cassoulet i would go for it. They also have a bistro menu that has some delicious additions to the menu for a reasonable price. One of my favorite places to eat in Providence, and again, don't miss the charcuterie.

This place has become a family obsession. My 22 year old brother had the rabbit pate 4 years ago and still hasnt stopped talking about it. I cannot stress it enough- this place is superb. Honestly, the best French food Ive had outside of France. It blows every other fine dining restaurant in RI right out of the water. Pot Au Feu, be afraid. The only other place that can hold a candle to it is Le Central in Bristol and thats really a different class. Le Central is your neighborhood bistro, Chez Pascal is fine damn dining. If I ever get married Im having my rehearsal dinner here. Heck, every major event in our family has been celebrated here- graduations, birthdays, etc. It just does not get any better than Chez Pascal. And for such a fancy dancy dining establishment they have a great sense of humor about themselves as well. Its family friendly and doesnt have that austere silence-in-reverence-of-food thing that some other restaurants have. Its noisy, and cheerful and everyone in the building is clearly having a great time. They also run the hot dog truck in the park across the street and a mobile charcuterie-mobile.

I'm not really a French food expert, but I LOVED this place. Staff isn't overly friendly, but professional and quick (all I really ask for...). Food was so good! The best thing is they really work hard to use local ingrediants. Great food with a conscience- what's better than that?

I agree with all other reviewers in saying a resounding, "Wow". We had tried to get into La Laitiere and Al Forno, but both had 1.5-2 hr waits. Chez Pascal seated us instantly at 6:45pm on Saturday night. The specialty cocktails were original and very well mixed by the bartender. Appetizers were awesome--the pate was some of the best I've had and the super garlic escargot were delicious. They don't skimp on the bread and actually kept bringing more with each dish. We had a wonderful Petite Syrah from California that paired with the patte and our entrees perfectly. My mom had the duck and couldn't stop talking about it. I had the pork special of the day--a medley of three different pork dishes--absolutely amazing in flavor. It came with a cheesy polenta which is the only way i can handle polenta. Serving sizes were perfect. I will absolutely go back again. This place should be in the top 5 for providence on yelp, hands down.

I've been to Chez Pascal several times (both at the Wurst Kitchen and at the restaurant) now and always had a good meal there. I went for brunch today and it was great! Providence has a lot of great brunch places and I might prefer other places for brunch but it was great to go to a different place on a Sunday morning. Service was friendly and food came out quickly. Overall it was wonderful!

Wonderful MS Walker wine. Had an amazing bouillabaisse and duck. Amazing beet salads delicious chocolate cake and sorbet. The service was incredible. Attentive yet not all over us. Very nice that they include the artists names in the menu that they represent. Also liked the romantic lighting.

From the owners to the bus staff, this place has top notch, friendly service. The atmosphere is intimate and cozy, without being cramped. Each room hosts original art by local artists. The sound level is just right. The food is not inexpensive but is worth every penny. The apps are delicious and varied. Tonight, I had the grilled squid special. The flavors were balanced, the portion size was sufficient to share with 1 or 2 others, but I ate the entire thing myself. My entree was the pork cassoulet, with house made sausage among other things. This was a heavy dish, perfect for the winter months. It paired well with a red wine.
