Haven't been here since it was Greek! My loss! Great place and I will return. Good take out menu beyond just pizza. Had lasagna, veal parmigiana and antipasto salad which were all good. This is not a gourmet restaurant but for comfort food on those nights you don't want to cook, nothing could be better. Good value meals and open on Mondays!

This place is amazing. I wondered in here and felt like I was a regular from the first minute I stepped in the door. The only thing better than the ridiculous garlic knots is the friendliness of the staff. Definitely try the BBQ chicken pizza!

  • Christina L.

Garlic knots! Yummo. My favorite pizza and alfredo in town.

  • Sarah G.

I always get their antipasto salad with their house dressing. Their house dressing is awesome. I love it. Ive also had some spaghetti that was good too. My fiance always likes his dinners too. We get the garlic bread with cheese and that is very tasty. Service can be slow at times, but the place has a good atmosphere. Price wise it is also reasonable. The only reason it lost 1 star for me is there are always flies. I have yet to go and not see a fly or multiple (one time I think I counted around 7). They really turn me off. I would give them 4 stars if there were no flies. Edit: Last two times there we didnt see any flies, so I would say its up to 3.5 stars now.

Awesome pizza! We've recently moved to the area & went to Rocco's on the recommendation of a friend. It usually takes us a bit to find "THE" pizza place in town - glad that this time we didn't have to search for too long! Try Rocco's & you won't go anywhere else for pizza!!

  • Josh T.

As always they deliver great food and on time, and the staff are always friendly and personable. This has become our go to pizza place in Portsmouth.

  • Matt M.

Roccos is extremely convenient for us, so its disappointing that the pizza is so bland. Really nothing doing in that department and I recommend looking elsewhere on the island for your pizza fix. The hot sandwiches and strombolli are good though. Several times Ive decided to be lazy and ordered one, have not been dissappointed yet in that department.

  • Katherine G.

I recently hired Rocco's to cater a family event. We ordered 4 pizzas plus veal marsala, eggplant parmesean, and baked ziti. Everything was delicious. Delivery was on time and everything arrived hot and ready to serve. The staff at Rocco's is very kind and was helpful in planning the menu. I highly recommend Rocco's catering services and will definitely be using them again.

If you are looking for a romantic high end italian experince - stay away. If you are looking for a down-home, simple dining experience with a no kidding true mom and pop italian dining experience, then this is your place. The family and I really enjoy visiting Roccos. The food is outstanding, made when you place your order with a nice italian flare. Dining at Roccos quite simply is an enjoyable, fun and pleasing experience.

Really good pizza if you're in the area! The staff is also very friendly, and the prices are very reasonable.

It's easy to win me over with crushed ice and this place has got it. The outside of this place looks like a take-out pizza place, but if you stop in you'll see that it's actually a very cute little Italian restaurant, playing the Rat Pack and having a random giant fishtank in the middle of it. Their Italian dressing was wonderful, a classic mix of oil, vinegar, spices and some Parmesan cheese. I'm a big fan. We got pizza and they do the "serve you your first slice" bit which is cool. I don't know whether it's really "New York style pizza" or not, but it was good. A little too heavy on the toppings, but better too much than too little!

  • Ryan K.

The owners are from NY. They know what they're doing when it comes to pizza. You won't find a better pie in RI. I haven't tried anything from the rest of the menu but its because I can't get past the pizza!

  • Rene A.

I LOVE Rocco's!!! The cheese on the pizza is just right. I've only had the Alfredo pasta, but it was just as I would want it. The specialty pizzas are delicious, the balsamic glaze...YUM!! We've recently moved out of state and I miss Rocco's most of all...

So I normally get tired of pizza. After a while it all seems to taste the same. We went to Rocco's for pizza and ordered the Florentine. Best pizza I have ever had. The tangy artichokes and the smooth cheese was an awesome combination. Let's not forget the sundried tomatoes, they threw the pizza over the top. We have lived many places and this is the one pizza place I keep craving. The staff is friendly and attentive. They make you feel like part of the family.

Rocco's is our absolute FAVORITE for pizza/Italian food!!! We order delivery from them every weekend and are never disappointed. Everything we have ever ordered is hot and delicious!!!! I highly recommend Rocco's!!! You can't go wrong!

What a welcoming place that is family owned and the pride is shown in the food. The food portions were plentiful and all about quality ingredients. The owner thanked each guest upon departure and mentored each employee with a smile. I truly enjoyed my first visit and look forward to many more! My new favorite Italian spot on the rock in which I was born.

The traditional pizza crust is perfect. Currently, this is in my top rankings for pizza in the area. We tried the pepperoni pizza, vodka sauce pizza, and the ultimate roll. All three things were really good. You should check it out!

    (4)
  • Jeff G.

I had gotten my hopes up, garlic knots were awesome but the pizza was average and not as ordered. Could have used more sauce and the crust was kinda boring. Great value though 17 dollars out the door with three toppings and the garlic knots.

Tried everything from spaghetti and meatballs to pizza, garlic knots are fantastic! Would definitely recommend.

We will make this our go to pizza place! We just moved to Portsmouth a day before and after a long day of emptying boxes we were starving. This place hit the spot! The garlic knots were delicious, as someone previously recommended. The whole family loved the pizza!!!! Our waitress was friendly and sweet and very attentive. The atmosphere was cozy and smelled delicious. We played cards until our food arrived and it didn't take too long. There were a lot of people getting take away which we may do, but dining in was pleasant too!

This is a good, solid pizza and italian joint. I live in Newport and they're seriously lacking in the pizza department, so I made my way to Portsmouth to try out Rocco's due to the reviews. There was some trash under our table but we're not too picky. We just got a plain cheese pizza but it was definitely good. As close as you will get to NY pizza in Rhode Island. The garlic knots were okay but needed salt in the dough it tasted a little bland. The real star for me was the ziti with vodka sauce. By far the best vodka sauce I've ever had, I was in heaven. I can't wait to try some of their other pasta dishes. They have a very creative selection of pizzas also, I will definitely be back to try one. I definitely recommend this place!

The most reasonably priced pizza I have eaten in ages! This restaurant is a must when we come to the area. We read about the garlic knots when we visited last year and they were nothing short of amazing. I love the amount of garlic they put on. No fear of vampires getting you after you eat these!

  • Average J.

There's very few places to which I would give 5 stars. Rocco's is one of them. They have the best pizza around. The 18" XL pie is also the best deal. The garlic knots are superb, but beware all vampires they are loaded with fresh garlic. The staff is friendly, which is also a key to a great dining experience.

  • Jessica W.

Yummy pizza, calzones, stromboli, fries & yup the garlic knots. Do not order the "crispy crust" pizza it's a weird texture - not good - but the regular thin crust is really good and they make awesome, creative speciality pies. Love the eggplant & red pepper calzone! Plus the staff is always super friendly. Happy to have them down the street.

Me and my boyfriend went for the first time tonight on a quest to try a new place. We were very happy we decided to go to Roccos after reading the yelp reviews. We tried the garlic knots and they were amazing, very garlicky but so good. I have only tried clam chowder once since I dont like clams but it was great, and my boyfriend, whom actually eats seafood verified that it was close to the best hes ever had. We had spinach and pepperoni stuffed pizza and it was also amazing. It was very different than the everyday pizza I get so tired of. We also tried the chicken parm and the chicken was just the absolute best, the sauce just slightly more salty than I would like but it didnt matter to me... The food is absolutely the best around! Our server Melissa was super nice and so helpful. She had great energy and she made our experience even better! I couldnt have asked for better service! I would definitely recommend this place to everyone i know!

Fantastic staff and stellar food, I was immediately impressed w the prompt friendly service. Great flavors, I had a slice of taco style pizza, which was fantastic. Also, a steak n cheese, argueably the best I've had. Which is saying something given thats my "go to". Absolutely a great bang for your buck

My family and I love coming here for dinner or takeout. Everything is prepared fresh and it's all delicious. They have a great crew and friendly service. They know the importance of repeat business and always strive to make the customer happy. I never knew about this place until I stopped in one day on a whim. I lived in the area for years and feel like I cheated myself out of a real treat. Now I'll come over from Tiverton just to get food. Excellent hand tossed pizza with perfect crust. Everything's so good here and they're not pretentious at all. You never feel uncomfortable and always feel welcome. The garlic knots are a real guilty pleasure too. There is something to satisfy everyone from pizza to grinders, salads, pasta, and desserts. Even have a beer or wine with dinner. What's better than that?

  • Rita C.

Garlic knots were delicious and the dipping sauce was excellent. Then came our subs, one veal parm, one sausage and peppers. We made pigs of ourselves and ate everything. These folks serve quality ingredients and do not skimp at all. We were so impressed we ordered a pizza supreme to take home and have for dinner. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. This was truly a find amongst so many mediocre restaurants. We plan to stop here every time we're on the island.

So delicious!! Garlic knots, stuffed rolls, and pasta were all awesome. Fantastic value--I vow to visit this place any time I'm in the area. Staff members are friendly.

My biggest regret after living in Portsmouth for three years - not going to Rocco's sooner! What I love most - definitely the food! Dine in or drive it home yourself, it fails to disappoint. Although I have failed to try everything on their extensively generous menu, I have these thoughts. The garlic Italian bread has been brushed with love of buttery, garlicky and cheesy goodness. The kids loved the mozzarella sticks, but what kid wouldn't? Antipasto salad is killer; great to share. The calzones are an art form within themself; just knowing that someone took the time to put what you want in a house made pizza dough (on this island) is phenomenal. The stuffed pizza is fun, again, you choose the fillers and it is sandwiched between the most succulent crust around. Oh did I mention they serve beer and wine? Skip the bad pizza with no booze at other establishments- have a glass and relax! The straight up NY style pizza comes in great sizes - large and larger; ok I'm exaggerating but they do give you more than what you pay for. This is the way to go if you want the honest experience; order a pizza your way and make your own opinion. If you want a great show, order it at the counter and watch the fine young lad make it right before your eyes! If you get bored, you can watch the fish in there bigass fish tank... they're pretty awesome too. This may be Portsmouth's little secret; as I'm not so sure the locals want the younger locals to know about it. The staff is friendly and work their tails off. If I have to wait a few moments longer for my delicious pie, it is well worth it. Rocco's has the NY original, if you have a taste for grilled pizza with liquor, venture to the grape room in Middletown, they fail to disappoint also. I'm just a pizza whore, my apologies. Thank you Rocco's, for not sucking. I'll be back every week!

My favorite pizza place on Aquidneck Island. It's great for take out pizza and delivery, but also a pleasure to dine in and enjoy all of their Italian dishes. If dining on Tuesday Night, be aware that the local "Clam Jam" with muscians from the area takes up about 50% of the dining space and can be extremely disruptive.

  • Charlie H.

The garlic knots are incredible. The pizza is New York style. They put a lot of garlic in both the pizza and Stromboli. Too much for my tastes but the other person I was with did not think so. Portsmouth does not allow the chain pizza places to operate. The best in the area.

  • Adam R.

I moved to Rhode Island from New Jersey. I lived in New York City for 18 years. I know Italian food. Rocco's is good. Some things are great. Some are okay. But it's the best pizza on Aquidneck Island and the best garlic knots I've ever had in my life. Pizza is not great in Rhode Island. If you want to drive up and get Providence style, that's an interesting thing, but it's tough to find good pizza of the more traditional kind. Rocco's makes decent traditional pizza. The sauce is good. The crust is fine. There's cheese and they deliver. Faint praise, I know, but mercy, the rest of the island is garbage pizza. The margherita is your best bet for plain pizza and the chicken parm pizza is my favorite. The entrees have some ups and downs. Stay away from the alfredo and carbonara. The chicken parm is decent, veal parm is better. I like the baked ziti a lot. Good meatballs. Anything with tomato sauce is going to be good. I really like their antipasto salad and the clam chowder is good. You're wondering why this review is four stars. There are two big reasons. The first is the service. They really treat you like a regular in the neighborhood. We get the same teenage guy as our waiter. He's friendly and charming. The main chef is friendly and helpful. Everybody is always talking about high school sports and intramural softball. Families come in and linger after a little league game. It's a wonderful environment. And there's those garlic knots. Their secret appears to be a ton of oil and garlic. They are amazing. Eat in and get them complimentary. Get them delivered. Dip them in the marinara. Eat them plain. The best I've ever had. Ever. If you want NY style Italian food, this is the closest you're getting in the Newport area. It's not spot on, but it'll scratch that itch. But wonderful service and amazing garlic knots turned me into a regular.

While visiting the area, we decided to take out Italian. Our host had never tried Roccos, but had heard good things. They made her a special cheesless pizza and she raved about it. And ate an extra piece it was so good. I had the stromboli. FRESH! This wasn't something sitting around waiting to be cooked. I could tell it was made to order and was the very best stromboli I have EVER. EVER! eaten. The sauce was perfection! I used to miss lobster rolls between visits. Now I miss Roccos Little Italy. If you are in the area: you MUST try this place! If I could give it more stars, I would!

  • Joe C.

Very disappointing. Waited an hour and 15 minutes for our food. When order started to arrive to the table, only 2 out of 4 orders. Waited another 20 minutes for the rest to come out. The eggplant parmigiana - was all mozzarella.

I was in Portsmouth for other reasons and needed a quick bite....Boy am I glad I stopped into Rocco's! I asked about pizza by the slice and he had pepperoni, cheese, veggie and a spicy peanut thai pizza. I chose the thai pizza with pineapple, chicken, thai peanut sauce and sesame seeds. Oh my goodness. Delish. It wasnt spicy enough for me but I saw the red pepper flakes, it was a sweet cheesey lightly spiced slice. The crust was by far my favorite part. I have no idea how they did it but it was hot and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I would have eaten a plain pizza for the crust! It is a small place and like other reviews it doesnt look like a sit down place until you go inside and its a classic italian diner. Not too mamy people there on a tuesday afternoon but thats just the way I like it. I will definitely stop at Roccos Pizza next time im in town :)

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
