Boru is exactly the kind of place I was hoping would open on Broadway. The restaurant is pretty small, but the service is quick so you usually have a couple seats opening up every few minutes. I couldn't ask more out of a location - right in the heart of Broadway nearby popular local bars, shops, and restaurants - yet Boru still stands out. The ramen dishes have outstanding flavor and textures. The menu is simple, which I prefer - you know if they only offer a few things then they are probably doing it well. The menu features 4 - 5 different ramens, and a selection of "bites". I ordered the Spicy Miso ramen with fresh corn (you could see it was cut fresh from the cob), pork, and bean sprouts. The broth was out of this world and the noodles were perfection... It was delicious. For a "bite" I ordered the Brussels Sprouts.. wow! Now these were fantastic!! A friend ordered the pork steamed buns which were also delicious. The bites seem to be large enough to share between two people, though if you have a big appetite I could see easily finishing a bowl of ramen and some bites by yourself. Its cash only, and they have an ATM inside. Walking is your best shot seeing as parking on Broadway can be limited, especially in the summer. This place is also BYOB. There are so many non-bar food businesses here that close by 9pm - I love that they are open until 10pm. Can't wait to see what future special ramens they offer up!

There is some really big flavor coming out of this little joint! The service is fast and the food is superb. The only issue I have is that I find it difficult to try the whole menu because the house ramen is *so* addictive, but that's a great problem to have. Pork belly fans of the world, unite! Stop on in for a delicious meal that's a unique alternative to what you'll find anywhere else in Newport. Do it now.

How do I start this? Went to Kens Ramen a couple weeks ago and after reading reviews on this place we knew we had to try it and today was the day. How disappointing!!!! We ordered the pork belly buns (2 in 1 order) which is a plus. They were pretty good but not better then Kens. We also got the Brussels sprouts and those get 3/4 stars in my opinion. For sure one of the best, however, the ones on top were a 5 star and by the time you got to the middle and bottom they lowered. They did include miso purée which was mostly in one spot and were well done. This was the highlight of the experience. We then got the chicken ramen and the spicy pork ramen-the meat was questionable and very salty. The spicy wasn't very spicy and the chicken had not much flavor except for being cooked with chicken feet or those parts of the chicken. The actual ramen seemed like packaged ramen you get at the market so nothing special there. The eggs in the soup were so cold as well. The best part here was the corn cut right off the cob. The soups were barely eaten so we ended up given all of our left overs to a homeless person begging in Providence. The service was good and the employees were very nice. Not much of an ambiance at least not today. The place is really small, however Kens is similarly small but with a lot of character and ambiance which is what you look for when going out to eat. Not worth the $43 I spent on this nor the drive. Will try Kens for a second time (dinner only as that's when they have they're 30 hour cooked spicy miso ramen soup). They did seem like they were struggling a little as they were understaffed as we saw another chef come in as we were almost done so maybe we went on an off day-although it is Saturday!

Food is very good. The short rib vermicelli was very tasty and the spicy miso ramen was ... Different. It was thicker than other ramen I've had. The service was extremely poor. We felt like we barged in on someone's home and they were begrudgingly feeding us. The chick with the blue tips basically slammed the food onto our table and didn't utter a single standard customer service phrase like "hello, welcome, Thank you, anything else?" ridiculous. Also the music was loud and metal. I don't mind the genre but turn it down a few notches! Not a welcoming environment.

This is our newest best place. Everything is practically homemade. Great for a quick lunch. It might be small but it doesn't matter with food this great. They can make it the way you like it. More spicy or no nuts. You must try it. You will never eat ramen noodles the same way again. The crispy Brussels sprouts are awesome, get them as an appetizer for your table. Only downside is they need more dishes. ADD MORE DISHES!!

This is a cozy noodle bar that definitely hit the spot on a cold winter's night. It is cash only so come prepared. It is a good place for a day night, not so good for a group of more than 4 people. We started with the Kale salad which was amazing with cashews and miso dressing. My husband got the Portuguese seafood bowl which was a little spicy. It was an interesting twist on ramen with clams, mussels, and calamari. I got the spicy miso bowel which had corn, pork, and bean sprouts. Also delicious.

After running around Thames St unable to find a seat Boru saved us from a terrible night. Sit at the bar and watch the chefs work...its entertaining...they have a lot of passion cooking so def awesome to watch.

Great place that is hidden in downtown Newport. Noodles are made fresh in either broth or in interesting combos. I had the curry ramen with yogurt and raisins... So yuumy! The dining area is small, would recommend a larger area as it gets busy towards dinner time. And the Thai iced tea wasn't my favorite, had more authentic.

Looked for something different for lunch on our visit to Newport and came across this place on Yelp and decided to give it a go. We're glad we did! The Wife and I came in a little after 11:30 on Tuesday. Small place, clean. Ordered the Crispy Brussels and also the Spicy Miso Ramen and the Native Squash Ramen. Those Brussels! You would like them even if you don't like brussel sprouts! I mean they were so oooo-mommy-ish! They were worth the visit alone! Then came our Ramen. Spicy Miso was spicy, but not CRAZY spicy. Nice peanut tinged broth, pork, corn (off the cob it looked like), sprouts, a little bit of radish I believe on top. SOOO good. My Wife had the Native Squash Ramen and she really liked it as well. Sliced pear, squash, tofu. The best lunch we've had in a while. Very filling as well, can't wait to come back again. I think they take credit cards now as when we ordered we had to pay later as they were working on the register at the time. Then when we went to pay, I saw the woman in front of me signing a receipt. Really a great meal guys! Thanks!

Dined here again on Saturday AM and was not disappointed.. We had the "life-changing' brussel sprouts and kim chee to start. Sprouts were carmelized and crunchy, while the chee was the perfect complement to the pending noodle bowls. Speaking of which, we had the veggie bowl and the tofu special. The corn in my veggie bowl was like candy which gave the tomato-base broth and much needed sweet partner. My husband's glazed tofu with mushroom broth was truly authentic. The earthiness of the broth could only be achieved at the hands of a skilled chef. We love this place. We recommend this place...highly. What are you waiting for?

Went here for a light dinner. We started with the pork buns, I had expected these to be like dumplings, but they were actually slices of steamed pork sandwiched in bread. Next were spicy cashew ramen and the special Thai sour noodle with chicken. Both were good and I felt the ingredients were fresh and flavorful.

I have not been able to stop thinking about this place since the last time I was in for dinner. It's off the beaten path which is nice. I got a delicious ramen soup with the pork belly in it and my boyfriend got some type of salad dish. Mine was incredible. He also raved about his meal. Maybe we'll have to take a trip this weekend. Will definitely be trying the kimchi and a couple other items on our next visit!

Well let's start off with the good thing, the staff. The waitress..... Well maybe she's more of hostess that takes the order.. Was awesome. She explained to my friend that the ramen he was ordering was broth-less. She also offered up tap water to me when I didn't order a drink. Also, when I asked for some chili paste she gave me the option of actual chili paste or Sriracha. The two gentleman that cook the food, very professional and cordial. Ok, so that's the end of the the good stuff. So let's up-pack some things that have already been touched upon above. It's really unclear what the lady who runs the cash register ( and seriously cash only? Just work the credit card fees into your pricing) does and doesn't do. I made some solid eye contact with her that said, "please come to the table so you can help me with a thing", but she didn't respond to it so I just walked up got my spicy sauce and then again for a box. I have no problem with that, but the lines just felt unclear. Typically when there isn't a real waitress you bus your own table, but there was no place for dirty dishes to go. I didn't order a drink because the prices are robbery, a Jarriots soda for $3?! Gentrification much? And ok, this is REALLY nit picking but, it's a Mexican soda, you're an "Asian" restaurant, what's your angle? Finally, the food. Boy is it beautiful! The kimchi came in a lovely little glass jar, sesame seeds and some curled scallions on top. However, it was the most bland fermented cabbage I have ever had. I personally keep a jar of kimchi in my fridge as medicine for colds. It should be overpowering and clean out your nasal passages. This stuff was more like a wet salad. I also overheard the order taker describe it as a " kind of cole slaw" to an unfamiliar patron. Come on, no. I had the vegetable ramen and I quite enjoyed it. The leeks were nice and soft, the mushrooms were nice and firm, broth was delicious. I added the Sriracha when my bowl got down to just noodles. They didn't really absorb flavor so they needed something that would coat them. Also worth mentioning again, the presentation was beautiful. My guest ordered a spicy broth-less ramen with I think daikon radishes in it. He has a super sensitive mouth and didn't find it spicy. He found it to be mega salty. He said he left full, but not satisfied. What really killed it for me was that this place has only been open for a few months and both of our bowls had large chips in them. Pull them out of rotation, your food looks immaculate, don't ruin it but giving me a bowl I could cut my mouth on. Oh wait, there is not gonna be any slurping going on because this is an American restrant, not Asian.

Okay, I may be setting the bar a bit high, but I can make the same level ramen at home for the fraction of the cost..... The service was friendly, location is great. but everything here is way overpriced. Call it a "Newportism," but still. In San Diego, one of the more expensive cities to live I'd pay half as much for twice as much. I have been twice and don't think I'll go back. I suppose if you don't have much experience visiting noodle shops or ramen places it'd be 4 stars. But meh....

There was construction in the area, so the location was slightly off-putting. We were expecting a slightly upscale, well-endowed ramen house. So when we got in, and it was more like a small hole-in-the-wall, we started questioning the yelpers. Then we tasted their brussels sprouts, and our fears dissipated immediately. We knew, it would all be perfect. The pork buns were ridiculously good. We loved their pork ramen and the rice noodles. The staff were extremely kind and helpful. Good people. The chef was there, and we thanked him for a fabulous meal. He said that if we loved ramen we should try Meyers and Chang in Boston. We did, and Boru wins the ramen contest.

Spicy Miso Ramen was filling and had a depth of flavor I enjoy in a Miso Ramen broth. The broth had a buttery texture which paired well with the kick of chili oil infused into the broth. The noodles were chewy and held up to the thicker broth (vice shoyu base). I enjoyed it! However their Kimchee was inedible (way too sour!! and I'm used to eating Kimchee)!! This is the kind of Kimchee one would use to make Kimchee stew! (very fermented!!)... [I eat Korean food very often (and am part Korean) and have eaten all over Korea....] I enjoyed the Yacht Club sodas which are made in RI!! Root beer definitely hit the spot!!! The staff (of 2 - host and chef) was very friendly and I'm hoping they add a few more choices of ramen broth... But I would go back to Boru if I was in RI again. Maybe Boru will consider making a Tan Tan mein (it's a spicy sesame based broth)!! ASIAN FOOD IN MIDDLETOWN, RI IS VIRTUALLY NON-EXISTENT!! So I was so happy to find this place!! There are about 15 seats (which includes the table and stools right next to where the chef is preparing all the meals)... Parking is limited but if you go at the off peak times that shouldn't be an issue.

I have had better ramen but I guess context is important. Sunny and diverse Newport cannot be held to the same ramen standards, and by most standards of food in general, Boru is a great place to grab a quick lunch or dinner. The ramen ranges between $10-20 and the portion size is medium veering a tiny bit towards small; enough to fill most people, but might just leave you wishing for more if your current trendy diet happens to be "eat things until youre full". I had the pork belly noodles and I must say i thought the pork belly was delicious. It was incredibly tender; alas there were only two pieces of pork which I guess ends up being better for my cardiovascular health- thanks boru for watching out for 40-years-from-now me! The noodles were unremarkable and in all honesty run of mill asian supermarket dried egg noodles in all likelihood. the broth and sauce for their dishes in general veer to salty, which I guess ramen often is, but it makes the soup mostly undrinkable. the line seems to get longer past 6, but we were there at a little past 5 and it was nice and chill Oh and the place is not very vegetarian friendly, which i guess is just a tip, not a knock.

Quick and tasty, don't leave Newport without visiting Boru Noodle Bar. Good ramen is hard to come by around these parts. Quaint and intimate, Boru makes satisfying your cravings easy. Bursting with addictive flavor, these bowls come with crisp veggies and perfectly cooked meats or fish. Lately I've had an intense love affair with the "chicken sesame noodles". Spicy sesame dressing, blistered tomatoes, and scallions -- it's the perfect snack during these dog days of summer. The "seared tuna ramen" is another favorite. The chilled noodles, gochujang, and wasabi slaw make it the spicy and savory. You can never go wrong with the "house ramen" --a floating half-egg atop sliced pork belly and chunks of napa cabbage? It goes down, oh so well. Pricing ranges from $11-15. Seating is cozy but by the end of Summer 2015,Boru plans on adding 20 seats after expanding into an adjacent space. They also plan on adding a proper bathroom in which "an average person can actually fit". Escape the annoying tourists and show these guys some love.

You had me at noodles Boru. I ventured out on my first trip to Newport and found this gem. I walked in around 2pm on a Saturday and there wasn't a seat but it only took about five minutes for a two top to open up. The place only seats 16 but anytime after 2 on the weekends it clears out pretty quickly. Also, it should be noted since it is such a small place there's no bathroom but one huge perk of this place is it's BYOB. You go up to the counter to order and the staff are very attentive to helping you find something you'd like and bring you water while you wait for your meal to be prepared. The music is alternative and some featured some nice throwbacks. I wouldn't suggest going here with a large group since seating is limited. I got one of the specials, pan seared cod with roasted garlic, red pepper confit, and fingerling potatoes. It was a generous portion of cod cooked so perfectly that it fell apart as I ran my fork through it. The fingerling potatoes were incredible. They were filled with flavor and not overly fried. Robust flavors and not too much oil was used. I also tried the Chicken Shio Ramen made with parsnip broth, mushrooms, and eggs. A massive bowl of noodles and again a huge portion. I had never tried parsnip broth but it had such a hearty and rich flavor I would definitely have it again and head here in the near future.

This tiny little noodle bar might just be my new favorite Newport restaurant. My boyfriend and I stopped in after a long stroll down Cliff Walk, we were chilly and hungry. This was the perfect solution. The menu is small but diverse, I enjoyed the Squash ramen bowl, it's had squash (duh) kale, pear, scallion, and super crispy tofu. The broth was sweet with hints of cinnamon and a little spicy. Boyfriend had the Shio Chicken bowl, which along with the chicken included mushrooms, and Napa cabbage, and an egg. This broth was a little more traditional chicken stock flavored. There Thai iced tea wasn't half bad either. I was so full but very tempted to try the steamed pork buns and calamari. At least I know what I'm going to order next time I'm in town.

5 stars for the pork buns, 1 star for the spicy cashew ramen. Seriously, these are the best pork buns I've ever had. I wish I would have ordered two orders of them as my meal. Soft buns, juicy pork, a little bit of cucumber, scallion, and hoisin sauce, what's not to love? I ordered the spicy cashew ramen because all the reviewers here seemed to love it, and I like dry ramen, but it was not good at all. Some flavors were good, but it had this burnt flavor that permeated throughout the dish and was just not pleasant. I'm not sure exactly what it was, since there's nothing in the dish that could burn really, it was just weird. If I find myself back in Newport ever, I'll probably just order two orders of the pork buns and maybe those delicious looking brussels sprouts.

  • Chris L.

Ramen was ok. The noodles had a weird texture. Maybe they just weren't cooked long enough. They messed up my order, so I didn't get what I ordered. I was hungry and ate it without complaint. After living in japan for seven years it's been hard to find good ramen. This is definitely not the place.

  • Linda F.

I wanted to give a glowing review, having been before and having a great meal, but this one wasn't up to the same level. I had a ramen bowl with cashews. The cashews had no flavor and didn't contribute any flavor to the dish. The noodles had a good consistency, but the flavor seemed as if too much hoisen sauce had been added. Overall, disappointing.

Definitely try the Spicy Miso Ramen. The broth is very rich in flavor! Love it!

I would give this place 3 1/2 stars if I could. Not great, not bad, decent service. Here's the thing... if you were raised on Japanese food, you're probably not going to come here for your noodle fix. It's "fusion" and it's okay, but I'll take a well-done, basic miso or shio ramen over a mediocre fusion dish anyday. I had the house ramen and edamame app. Something was missing--maybe the depth of flavor I'd expect from a good ramen broth that's been reducing for 15 hours. I was intrigued by the cioppino ramen, but the house ramen didn't impress me so I doubt I'll be back.

So excited to find a ramen/noodle bar in this part of the town besides just seafood, seafood and more seafood. Like most ramen joints found in NYC, Boru offers the usual miso and shio ramen with few added twists. But Boru will not be defined by just the usual, they also serve Portuguese shellfish, squash and spicy cashew ramen. I think the chef/owner is very brave and creative to think outside the norms. Though I've yet to try these interesting creations, I'd be wiling to give it a shot the next time I'm around.

I ate at Boru twice this past week, visiting Newport. First I had the vegetable ramen, then i had the clams (Alejante) ramen. Both were pretty impressive. The broth in the vegetable raman was really rich and tasty, i thought i might want to have more protein but the tofu completely satisfied me, as did that broth. I finished every last drop of that broth and the noddles which were perfectly cooked. Tonight I had the Alejante ramen, which seems a bit 'local' to me and for $12 I was game. there were clams in the spicy, flavorful broth as well as three whole little necks steamed open floating on the bowl. The spice was a perfect medium and the broth so unique and kind of zesty, and worked well. The buns - insanely good. I could have eaten a second order, although one was enough when a big bowl followed. Pickles are super refreshing, just like the kimchee, which i had a bit of (from my friend's serving) The place offers a few beverages and no liquor, but that was fine. In true ramen fashion, it is a comfy place to grab some quick and tasty noodles, watch the chefs do their thing (from the open kitchen), and then be on your way. Prices, more than fair; staff super friendly; the setting informal, relaxed and tidy/streamlined. I've eaten ramen a lot in more urban areas and it is nice to know that this little gem is on offer in Newport now too. Can't wait to see what these guys do next with their offerings.

This is a small hole in the wall place that serves Ramen noodles that opened up recently on Broadway. They have five different types of Ramen dishes. I've been here twice and tried the House to go and the Roasted Chicken eat in, both of which were very tasty. The House Ramen was topped with crispy pork belly and a soft boiled egg. I have not tried any of their other side dishes so I can't comment on them. When you come in, you place your order and pay up front. There is limited seating so you may want to grab a seat when you can. They only take cash but there's an ATM on the premises. I thought the price was reasonable for the area. They do not have alcohol, but I believe you can byob if you want to. I don't know of any Ramen noodle places like this in the Newport area. I would definitely recommend and will be coming back to try the other types of Ramen on the menu! Also, I didn't see it, but I think it would be great if they added gyoza to the menu.

Cash only! Yummy cozy meals at a great price, always satisfies my ramen craving. Their tea and limeade is great, as well as the chicken wings! The house ramen is amazing, the pork just melts in your mouth.

So we heard about this place from a coworker and decided to check it out. Walking in its pretty small, maybe seating a little less than 20. The menu is short and sweet, but oh so good. We started with the kimchi and crispy brussels. The kimchi was perfectly flavored with the right amount of chili sauce, spicy but not overwhelming. Please please PLEASE do yourselves a favor and get the crispy brussels. The soy caramel sauce on them is heaven. Next we had both the house ramen and the spicy miso. For both the pork was tender and flavorful. I found the broth in the miso to have a pleasantly creamy consistency. The staff is attentive and very approachable. We will be coming back very soon!!

This place rocks. I had lunch here for the first time today, and I will definitely be coming back as often as I can. Not only was the food beyond amazing (I had the spicy miso ramen), but it's clean, the staff is helpful and friendly, food comes out fast and everything is well priced especially for a hot (and quick!) quality meal in Newport. I also met one of the owners, Steve, who couldn't have been more approachable or welcoming. I literally cannot wait to go back!!

Tried this place for the first time. I was happy to see a ramen place in the area - something different from the norm. I was glad to see it wasn't all about trying to be super trendy, but still a cute atmosphere. Prices were ok with the typical portion for a ramen place. We got the wings which were decent, not too dry and coated in a typical chili/Thai sweet/spicy sauce. I got the house ramen, which I was happy to find that the broth wasn't too salty and the pork belly was tender (although I'm pretty much a sucker for any pork belly : p ). I thought the plating could have been a little cleaner since the outside of the bowl had some gunk all over it. Overall seems like a spot for college students to stop for a quick bite. If they step it up a bit this place could last.

Love, love, love! What a wonderful addition to the Broadway food scene! As a ramen-o-phile, I was super excited when hubby told me about the newly opened noodle bar. We walk in on a snowy Tuesday evening in much need of steamy bowls of noodle soup. We walk in and nearly all 18 seats are taken. But luckily, there one was more table available for the two of us. We quickly scan the menu, which is small, but interesting and focused. Hubby decides on the Roasted Chicken ramen with chicken confit, egg and kale. I order the Spicy Miso ramen with minced pork, corn and bean spouts. And we both get glasses of Thai iced tea. We order at the register and pay about $30 in cash. Boru is cash only, but they have an ATM machine on site. Very quickly, the flannel-clad server brings us our Thai iced tea. The tea is disappointing - too dilute and not nearly sweet or creamy enough. In another ten minutes, our bowls of noodles arrive. Oh happiness! The presentation is perfection. The goodies are piled up on top, garnished with scallions and finely sliced radish. First bite, double happiness! The noodles are chewy, and the minced pork is well flavored in the thick miso broth. The corn kernels are freshly cut from the cob, not frozen, which was a nice surprise. Hubby's chicken ramen is just as good. The chicken confit is wonderful - melt-in-your-mouth tender and flavorful. The only negative is that both broths are just a bit too salty. Once they fix that broth, I will be happy to change my rating to five stars. Overall, delicious food and I can't wait to go back to try the other varieties and the Small Bites! Some other useful info: There are 6 seats at tables, 12 bar-style seats, so Boru is not really good for large groups. A bonus - this place is BYOB!

House ramen is the best!!!! Though I have to admit the only other thing I have had are the crispy brussel sprouts - I can't seem to make myself choose anything other than those two items, they are SO delicious!!! The cooking crew and cashier/servoer/hostess woman are super nice. My husband an I eat here once a week it's so yummy! A perfect pre-movie dinner (Jane Pickens theatre a couple minutes' walk). So glad these guys are here!!

This is my new place for healthy comfort food. This is the best ramen I've had since the Japanese place I used to go to in Sydney. I recently had the kale salad, pickles and house ramen and was impressed with the freshness and flavor of everything.

My new favorite Newport restaurant. I had the chilled sesame w/chicken, husband had the kimchee (small bowl) and the spicy miso. Everything was delicious, very flavorful. We will be back very soon and can't wait to try the other dishes.

Boru is my new favorite Newport restaurant! It opened in December 2013 and my husband & I have been going there ever since! It's run by 2 local chefs that use the freshest local ingredients to create the most amazing ramen dishes and "small plates". But first, let's start with the drink options. They don't serve alcohol, but I promise you won't miss it! They make home-made Thai iced tea, home-made lime-aid (sometimes with cilantro or ginger) and a watermelon/jalepeno punch. They also have a few sodas & Perier, but I would recommend the lime-aid or watermelon punch! Now to the "small plates"! First of all, ALL of them are delicious! I always get the fried brussell sprouts with soy caramel & kimchee. Sweet, a little spicy, and crunchy! The Thai basil chicken wings are also a favorite...a little spicy, sticky, and so tender! The home-made kimchee is great too...not as "stinky" as the usual stuff. Very bright flavors. They also have pork buns, an edamame salad, and the occasional summer salad or civeche. Just the small plates are worth a visit!!! And now the ramen...the star of the place! Each bowl is made to order with extremely fresh ingredients like pork belly, chicken confit, and local seafood. The noodles are cooked perfectly, the vegetables (baby bok choy, char, corn, spring peas) are crispy, and the broth...oh the broth! Such depth of flavor in the broth...I've never had anything like it!!! You can tell that these chefs aren't fooling around with this food! I found myself saying "How did they get that FLAVOR?" I think you will too! And for dessert? Green tea ice cream with sesame oil & a little sea salt! A perfect end to the meal! They are now open for lunch every day (except for Monday) and dinner. Yes, the place is small, they only accept cash (there is an ATM on-site) & you may have to wait for a table, but it's worth it! I PROMISE YOU that you will never EVER eat those packaged (nasty) ramen noodles again!

Amazing depth in the flavors i had the spicy miso ramen it had scallions radishes bean sprouts Clark and lots of other things but the flavor was just amazing will definitely go back again I think I'm going to have to try the house ramen and brussel sprouts since everyone else seems to love it

Had very high hopes since I read such great reviews. Not that it's terrible but also not impressive enough for us to return. We had the house ramen (standard), chicken wings (over seasoned), and calamari (best flavor of the three).

This place was so good! I was in the taste from something that was filling but not heavy and healthy with enough flavor to satisfy and I found it here! I had the Native Squash Bowl and it was wonderful! It was a little later on a Friday night and people were still coming in for carry out or just to sit and dine. The atmosphere is nice, simplistic. You can tell that the quality of the food is what makes this nice little spot. It is very clean but not over the top with decorations. What a wonderful find! I will be coming here a lot while I'm in Newport!

Can't review it cause it's NEVER open! The hours are awful. At this point, after we decide on getting food here, we just run to stop and shop for a Cup O noodles. Please get regular hours. Opening at 5pm is for places that specialize in dinner only (Salvation, Noreys, 5th, etc). You would make a ton of money if u were open for lunch!

I came in with some pretty low expectations just because I'm pretty picky with my ramen and hardly ever find a place that I loved. Turns out this place was amazing (not because my expectations were low!) The service was probably the most friendly service I've ever experienced. The menu is pretty limited which I really don't mind because all I wanted was the house ramen. There were definitely less than 10 ramen choices but they all sounded really good. You order at the front and then take your seat. It's a really small place so thankfully we beat the rush and got a good spot. The ramen was delicious. It had everything I love in a ramen - pork, egg, bean sprouts and sliced bamboo shoots. Everything paired well with each other, it was so delicious. I would definitely come back! Do note that it's cash only - however, they do have an ATM inside so it's not a big deal.

Casual spot with delicious noodle dishes. We shared the crispy brussel sprouts which were fun, she had the seafood ramen and I had the spicy cashew. On a cold spring day these hit the spot. Service was friendly. Highly recommend when you're craving an easy, comfortable stop for mouth-watering noodles.

Boru has a little something to suit a variety of tastes. The presentation is beautiful and the food itself is fantastic. For those who enjoy a little spice they have several dishes that will awaken the senses.

Ate here and the food was alright. Large serving size was nice. Broth on the house ramen was okay- I added pepper and it was better. The chashyu (pork belly) was good- had good crisp skin. I wish the cabbage in it was Japanese or something with milder flavor. This is not a toddler friendly place. The staff was accommodating, but there were no high chairs or kids menu. Also disabled individuals will not be able to use their restroom.

Well, I was ordering a to go order and the way she picked up the phone was just saying hello, that threw me off but no biggie. The Brussel sprouts were tasty minus the 3 huge hairs we found in it, the pork buns were very good and the house ramen was ok - the hairs ruined it for me.

Thank you Boru! You just made my lunch, literally! I stopped in on this very warm day were having & had the yummiest cold rice noodle soup! Toasted cashews, sliced carrot, mint, dash of chili & sesame oil ~ happy ~tummy! It was exactly what I was craving which was the cold summer rolls you get at thai places - BUT BETTER because it was a whole lot more! You guys rock!

Four stars! The food was great. It was rich and flavorful and generous. I ordered the Cioppino ramen; it had a ton of various seafoods (mussels, littlenecks, etc.) and had a very seasoned broth. The atmosphere, however, was little bit slow and awkward. There was no music playing and we were the only customers inside. The system itself is also very awkward (you order yourself and the cashier also functions as a waitress?) -- other than that, the food was great!

Nourishing, creative, flavorful food. Very vegetarian friendly- they offered to make non-veg dishes veg by substituting ingredients and the dishes turned out delicious. We had the spicey cashew ramen and the Brussels sprouts. Yum! Very friendly staff

With this cold temperature, I was really wanting some Ramen. I came across this place by accident and on the next chance I had to eat out...I wanted to try it. I'm so used to many Ramen places (living in Japan and in CA) and I wasn't the biggest fan of it. I do like that the selection isn't overwhelming but with that....the ramen has to be GREAT and I would say it was only SO SO. The broth seemed like it needed something. But the size was great for the price and I have to say the Brussel Sprouts is SUPER YUMMY! Seating sucked. If you had more than 4 people in your party...you would have to wait to find seating. I was with 2 other people and luckily we got seats. There is a handful of bar seating. Service however was quick and the staff was friendly and on top of our needs! I'm not sure if I would go back but glad I was able to try it.

Absolutely. Ridiculous. This place was MUCH needed in Newport. A fast, delicious, and fresh lunch option....and everything tasted amazing. The menu is very small, about 5 different types of bowls and I think 6 starter options. To start we had their take on pork buns ... holy heck, so GOOD! Next time I may order these as my meal. Bf had the house ramen bowl, with pork belly- very very good. I had the chicken ramen bowl which was outstanding. We will absolutely be returning here frequently. Hooray for Boru!!!

After reading the reviews on Yelp, I was really exciting to try something new. I went to Boru with a friend for dinner with high expectations that included a burst of flavor. However, that is not exactly what I got. We ordered the spicy pickles- which actually tasted more like cucumbers and weren't really that spicy. My friend got the spicy chicken ramen and I got the spicy miso pork ramen. I also ordered a Thai tea. We were unimpressed with our soups and did not experience the flavor others claim to have. My pork ramen tasted like noodles boiled in pork juice- nothing else. I did not enjoy my meal and had to stop after 10 bites. My Thai tea wasn't made correctly either- it was very bitter and tastes like it was instant. I also find it interesting that all the staff were Caucasian and not Asian. Maybe that explains the lack of authentic Asian herbs, spices, and flavors... I would save my $15 next time and get Ramen Noodles from the grocery store and add meat and vegetables- it would have more flavor than what I experienced here. Very disappointed.

I really liked this little place! It felt cozy and tucked away, and the ramen hit the spot on a chilly night. We were really just looking for a snack, because we were eating our "real" dinner in a couple of hours, but in Newport, I feel like I need constant refueling because there's just so much good food. We shared a ramen that is no longer on the menu, but I'd recommend it if it comes back. It was almost mediterranean in style, with tomatoes, zucchini, and string beans. We also shared their crispy brussels sprouts which were out of this world. I kept sneaking extra bites when I thought the BF wasn't looking. It is small, so I would not come with a large group. Also, we were moved from a table to the bar-type seating on the side after we were seated (to make room for other people), which wasn't terrible, but don't be surprised if it happens. The ramen-getting is not a super fast process (which maybe translates into better food, in this case), so just don't expect to run in, have a bowl, and dash back out.

Small, cozy atmosphere. Place was kept clean and neat. Hostess/waitress very patient with us. (We were a big group, big order. Could get confusing.) Everything we ordered was delicious. The ramen noodle soups came in big bowls, big portions. Excellent dining experience!

I should say first that I am not a expert of ramen. Not that I don't like it, but I must have been eating something different in college instead of the dollar ramen packages (not that I am comparing that to this place). So I am not an expert-ramen eater. On this same note, I was glad I was with a friend and her son who knew what they were doing. I always worry I will make a fool of myself eating ethnic food with broth. I had the house ramen and it was good. Next time I will probably get the veggie as it wasn't that long ago that I started eating meat again. We also got the Brussels sprouts. NOW THESE WERE DELICIOUS!!!! Get them. The friend who I was with said "mom wouldn't like this place." It sounds like mom is a pretty die-hard authentic ramen expert-so take that as you want. This place was good- nothing to write home about for me (well, except the Brussels sprouts). Also the mango drink looked yummy-but I didn't get it. And this place is TINEY! I think three two-seater tables and about 10 bar style seats. We got a table right away and service was quick. Actually, the waitress was super great and attentive-that should probably get an extra star. I will if it is the same next time. Happy eats!

Service was friendly and fast. The noodles were just okay. They had decent flavor but have a lot of room to improve. I was hoping for noodles more like miyakerestaurants.com/pa… . I would recommend for lunch over dinner because if this reason. I would try again because the were so nice.

Maybe after living in Japan for 3 years I'm spoiled by real ramen but the spicy miso ramen is one of the worst bowls of ramen I've had. The broth was bland and way too thick. I wasn't expecting amazing but I was expecting a lot better for a $12 bowl.

I see alot of people on here complaining about the wait and complaining about the fact that the dudes cooking aren't Asian. The last one I won't even touch with a ten foot pole in this day and age, but as for the wait time, I have never had an issue with time here; besides, it is just two guys cooking back there, be patient America. As for the food; the pork buns can not be beat and should be ordered by the dozen. The Spicy Miso Ramen is also suburb and try and ask for it extra hot if you can. What I love about this place is it is something different in Newport, which has a great food scene but can get stale, and it is done right. The food here is evolving as we eat it and that my friends is wonderful.

Ate here in late January 2014 and just getting around to reviewing. I had heard good things about Boru from friends who had gone right after it opened and was really excited for a noodle bar right in Newport. We ordered a house ramen and roasted chicken ramen to go and ate them at home about ten minutes later. Both orders were extremely bland and salty, to the point of being completely unenjoyable without hot sauce. I was starving so I was willing to forgive these early sins by dousing my noodles with Sriracha until I found a hair deeply embedded in my to go carton. The flavor of the ramen, or lack thereof, was more than enough for me to not come back; never mind the hair (black and about an inch long, I assume from one of the chefs).

We were soooo excited to try out this new noodle shop and were sadly very disappointed. I will start off by saying we aren't super adventurous eaters however we have been to Noodle shops in NY and Miami that were delicious, so were expecting the same level of taste at Boru. Once we placed our order and sat down, it took 30min to get our pork buns and then another 30min to receive our two Noodle bowls, too long for this style of eating. Noodle dishes just had very little flavor and a lot going on. We ended up abandoning our barely eaten dishes and headed out of there. Hoping they add some additional, simpler menu items and drinks options and can get the food out quicker. We will try again in the summer....

After digging myself out after snow storm Hercules, I was cold and quite famished. I needed something to warm and filling to re-energize me! Boru was perfect for that. I was happy to see that they were open for lunch. The menu is simple which makes deciding what to have easy! We had the House Ramen and Pork Steam buns. While we waited just a few minutes for our food we enjoyed a Thai ice tea. This was refreshing but I wish the flavor of the tea was a little stronger. Our steam buns were ready first and they were so good and being only 2 to an order I wish I had more. Our ramen came over piping hot and smelling great. We dug right in. All of the components of the dish were done well. Perfect soft boiled egg, flavorful napa cabbage that was pickled or may have been house kimchi?( not sure on that one but it was good!), flavorful rich broth, decent amount of pork belly ( wish it had a little harder sear before braise or more flavor/seasoning) and nice quality of ramen noodles( not like the ones in top ramen at all!) Having spent time studying abroad in Singapore I have ate some good ramen in my day and I am happy to see someone bringing this to Newport! I will definitely be back to try more!

Really amazing! Great food, fun, quaint, and a SUPER NICE staff. The Spicy Cashew Ramen, after the first bite, I knew in my heart that it was the type of food that you wake up in the middle of the night craving. Really. It's 2 a.m. was that a bump in the night? Is there an intruder? No. Something is wrong somewhere. I can feel it in my soul. Should I call and check on my parents? No. That would really piss off Mom. What's wrong?!?!? OH. MY. GOD. I know! I know! I need some Spicy Cashew Ramen! Seriously folks, it's that good. By the by...there's an appetizer called Crispy Brussels. Even if you typically hate brussel sprouts. Just get em', you'll thank old Lucy.
