My family and I loved this restaurant! The food, service, and atmosphere were all top notch. We had the clams casino, stuffed mushrooms, squash blossoms for appetizers which were all super tasty! My favorite was the squash blossoms. I had the lamb chops special, which consisted of 3 huge chops that were full of flavor, a mountain of fluffy mashed potatoes, and a side of fresh asparagus, carrots, and green beans. Another had the paella seafood which was a giant platter of lobster, scallops, clams, shrimp, mussels, and rice covered in marinara, which he thought was amazing. The desserts were probably the highlight of the night. Our waiter came around with a tray of mouth watering desserts that were just too hard to turn down. Before the meal we agreed only one dessert to split for the table, but we couldn't resist and got 4 desserts: 2 slices of turtle cheesecake, chocolate molten lava cake, Oreo cake. Our favorite was the title cheesecake, which had a graham cracker crust, layer of chocolate, and topped with caramel. It was amazing! The atmosphere was also really great and made you feel like you were transported to a villa in Spain. I highly recommend coming here for dinner! You won't be disappointed!

Amazingly beautiful wedding! It was a day wedding, the ceremony was outside on the patio/terrace area. The set up was perfect for an intimate wedding. The cocktail hour featured their signature sangria (both red and white). The appetizers were perfect and diverse. Upstairs the function room had an ocean view. The meals were also amazing.. I had chicken, by boyfriend had filet. We are still talking about how delicious the meals were. The DJ was PHENOMENAL! She had a set up downstairs for the ceremony that was perfect for the space (music was just right). She kept the festivities going and got everyone up on the dance floor to close out the event.. I recommend her for future events.. MissInfinit.com

I really liked going to Spain It was busy there, lots of people, but getting a drink at the bar was still easy and the wait for a table wasn't too long. Once seated The server was very professional and experienced. I had a white sangria which tasted a little too much like orange juice. The warm rolls tasted great with the garlic butter! The stuffed mushrooms came out very quickly and were very good. My pasta dish was just ok, the shrimp tasted good but I believe the cheese they sprinkled on top may have been bad due to the smell. My husbands lamb was good but did not have great flavor. We would go back again as we really enjoyed the atmosphere but we will definitely have to order something different to try next time.

Wow!! This is the second time I have been to Spain of Narragansett and the great service and food blows me away every time. Being with a party of eight, we had several appetizers, delicious entrees, and dessert of course. I had no complaints with how the food tasted or how great the servers were. Unfortunately I do have to complain about the hostess that greeted us when we arrived. I had made a reservation the day before my party arrived and the gentleman who answered the phone had misunderstood my name and put the wrong name under the reservation. When I arrived at the host stand, I was ignored by the host for a couple of minutes while she stood there talking to a bus boy. When she finally acknowledged me and I gave her my name she was insistent that I had not made a reservation because the name was misunderstood. After a couple of minutes of her looking through the reservation book she said "Well that's not the name I have but I guess it will do because I have a table for 8." Being a hostess at another restaurant, I was blown away by this young host's horrible attitude and customer service. If there was one thing I would change about this restaurant it would be the host at the door!! She needs to learn to greet customers with a smile, especially since she is the first impression customers will have of the restaurant.

Yes 5 stars! The service is impeccable. The food is delicious. I have never had a bad meal or expeirence here. No restaurant in South County can beat the quality of food, service and atmosphere better than Spains in Narragansett. Chang, Sixto and Manny at the bar rocks!

I went to Spain of Narrangansett last night to celebrate with family and was blown away by the service and food. We were sat pretty quickly I thought for a Saturday night around 6pm. We were immediately greeted for drink orders and read the specials. They bring endless bread a mix of french and cranberry bread. We decided on two appetizers, shrimp cocktail and fried calamari. The shrimp cocktail were large and fresh and the fried calamari wasn't greasy at all and was very flavorful. I got the 16oz sirloin which was charbroiled a bit too much but cooked extremely well and had this incredible lemon, garlic, brown butter sauce. I was apprehensive to have a lemon sauce on dark meat but it really was the perfect blend. The garlic mashed potatoes were creamy and flavorful and the mixed vegetables were sauteed in the perfect amount of olive oil and cooked perfectly. I made room for dessert and got the Turtle Cheesecake and it was the best cheesecake of my life. Light and fluffy with the perfect amount of caramel on top and strawberry drizzle on the plate. I will be going back here and hope the tiger shrimp special is still on the menu as I was torn between that and steak!

It was pretty good. The main dining room was very loud so I had to repeat myself constantly to the wait staff and my husband and I had to yell at each other. The food took a long time but the place was totally packed. Overall it was pretty good food. We had the mushroom & calamari apps. The calamari was over cooked & the dish didn't have any tentacles in it. That's my favorite part so I was surprised I didn't see any. The mushroom app was perfect. We split the seafood paella for entree. It was tasty but the seafood tasted frozen. The paella wasn't spectacular. The service was good but I could tell that the servers there were all kind of old & sweaty. Our server did not have much personality but the staff met all of our needs.

Wonderful meal excellent service! We had swordfish special and squash blossom! With a 1/2 pitcher of sangria! All the best I have had and they even split the meal for us! Best place in Narraganset RI!

We live in the area and the choices available are slim so we occasionally will come to Spain. Some people rave about this place but I find the food to be mediocre at best. The service however has always been good and consistent the food just has never done it for me the last time I ordered the Paella it was dry, bland and the mussels had a foul odor.

Excellent meal with friends and kids at Spain. Service great, meals delish and the best turtle cheesecake i have ever had! Go to Spain, now.

Stayed in Narragansett for a business meeting and stumbled upon Spain. The stuffed artichoke appetizer is to die for, literally! For dinner, I ordered the stuffed veal special and it was super good. This was peak summer and I still got seated quickly and John (server from Portugal) was amazing! My food got here very quick and was thoroughly enjoyed. I would highly recommend this place!

With so many choices of great food in Rhode Island, this is a place to put on your list. The service in the Narragansett location is very good along with the food. The Paella is out of this world, the wine list is reasonable with a good variety, and the appetizers are hard to choose from. Will go back and sit at the bar with my wife and eat three or four appetizers just to get to try more of them.

Celebrated my son's birthday dinner at Spain last night. Another success! We started with the shrimp cocktail , 3 chilled, jumbo shrimp to an order or more. Service was impeccable! The Caesar salad and the stuffed tiger shrimp for dinner. My son had the filet, cooked perfectly! I had never tried tiger shrimp prior to last night. First off tiger shrimp is probably 4 times bigger than a normal shrimp, surprise! I was served one in the shell stuffed with seafood stuffing. I loved it! It was a fun presentation in the shell, the taste was delicious! Heartier than a normal shrimp but not quite like a prawn. We enjoyed a lovely evening and it ended in a single candle lit in my son's dessert.

I was really disappointed by their chicken marsala here. Others enjoyed salmon and steak, but the marsala was very bizarre tasting to me. Maybe I'm just ignorant of the Spanish version of this dish? Seriously, it tasted like a gross Campbell's soup was topping my chicken. I can't understand it as their sangria was good and others really enjoyed their food, but my dish went horribly awry.

Very nice. Took my lovely wife for our anniversary. Best food in Narragansett. A little pricey. But nice for special occasion. Between calamari appetizer, rack of lamb, strawberry cheesecake (best i've ever had), and cappuccino ... I have a major food baby.

A friend, who lives in the area, had suggested that we try out Spain this past Saturday. We had six in our party and by all indications, it looked like it would likely be tough to get a table this time of year. We decided to call ahead and see if we had any chance. Low and behold, a part of six failed to show up and with only about a 8 minute commute to the restaurant, we arrived and were taken to a wonderful table out on the patio. This is not an open patio, in fact it is a wonderful patio with great vibes and an amazing 8 foot wall made of some amazing flat stone. Also, a wonderful fireplace was the centerpiece of the outdoor patio. The service was prompt, helpful and very friendly. The food was quite a treat. Haven't had paella for a while and I chose the seafood. It came with a lobster tail, shrimp, mussels. clams, scallops combined with a moist and flavorful rice cooked in a pan (as you might expect). Members of our party had nice swordfish, salmon, and veal dishes. A few of us chose the white sangria, which had fresh slices of fruit (in a pitcher). Very tasty and complimented our meal. The bread came quickly after our drinks and it was also very good. Our servers were very attentive and kept an appropriate distant until we needed some water or a plate pickup. So, the level of interaction between us and the server was frankly perfect. The noise level outside was fine. You feel like your in an enclosed patio somewhere in Spain. Overall a very enjoyable experience. You might ask why not 5 stars and I would say that was only due to the fact that we set the bar really, really high for these reviews and it just didn't go to that extreme. Don't let that stop you from giving Spain a try.

Easily one of the best restaurants in New England. My family and I have been going to Spain since it opened and have no plans of stopping. The service is unmatched. The menu is extensive. The garlic shrimp is the best appetizer I have ever had. The stuffed mushrooms and calamari are also the best of the best. One of my favorite meals is the twin stuffed lobsters. The stuffing is amazing and even the side vegetables are always cooked and flavored to perfection. The chicken is perfectly flavored and cooked to fall off the bone. Don't forget to get a pitcher of sangria, red and white!

We have dined at Spain of Narragansett several times but our most recent visit seemed to be the best. Our appetizers, a salad special and the stuffed artichokes were both remarkable. Regarding entrees, my husband was thoroughly thrilled with the moist tasty swordfish special and I once again savored the delicate Sole Francaise. Our waiter, Brian, along with his assistants can be defined as fabulous considering it was very busy. We truly hope this level of perfection will become totally consistent.

We went to Spains last night and again it was awesome. A table of 4 adults and one toddler. 3 of us got the twin stuffed lobster and 1 ordered the salmon. We ordered a lot of appetizers and one order of white and red sangria. Everything was so good!

We've come here many times over the years when we were in Rhode Island - I actually had my bat mitzvah reception here many years ago too - and it's always flawless. Tonight we dined with a fairly large group of people, about 9, and the service was great. I ordered the pork loin and the sauce was a little spicy but tasted good. I'm not a seafood fan so we ordered the portobello mushrooms for an appetizer. We also tried a few desserts, I ordered the Kahlua cheesecake which was great and I tried my mom's pumpkin cheesecake which I also liked, surprisingly because I don't usually like pumpkin. Love this place and definitely will be back. My only complaint: where were their mints?! I didn't see any as we left and I love them.

I have been here many times and am never disappointed. Sole francaise, garlic shrimp, stuffed mushrooms, paella - everything is perfectly cooked. The service is also great. The interior feels a little old to me, but that is a small complaint for a great place.

The best service and tastiest food in South County. Always a treat to visit. Try the sangria in the summer months with cool gazpacho. Warm hearty seafood bisque is a winter favorite. Beautiful scenery too.

My husband and celebrated our anniversary with a wonderful dinner!!! We arrived early so we had no problem getting a table. They don't take reservations for less than 6 people. The staff was cordial and very efficient. The crab cakes were good and the black bean and ham soup was flavorful. The Chicken Spain was amazing! It was accompanied by delicious mashed potatoes and farm fresh vegetables that were cooked to perfection. A combination of spinach, green beans, summer squash and carrots had a delightful flavor. The boneless chicken breast was stuffed with Virginia ham, Provolone cheese, lobster, artichokes and black olives. My husband had the veal Spain with same ingredients. Both meals were delicious! My one disappointment was the white sangria. It appeared to be just wine with orange juice and some fruit, not my fave. I will try the red next time. We want go back and sample the mussels which appeared to be a customer favorite as they were served to almost every table! This restaurant catered to several large groups with ease and enjoyment! I look forward to another visit!!!

Average food, really not worth the wait (ours was 1.5 hours, after being told 45 minutes). Drinks, which we had at the bar while waiting, were strong as they should be for that wait. Food was just OK, very underseasoned, as in not even salt and pepper. Waiter was professional. Vegetarian offering (the grilled vegetable plate) is pitiful; most of the vegetables aren't even grilled and they are served without rice or any other starch-y filler. Bar was deafeningly loud and upstairs dining area almost as bad. Been coming to Narragansett for annual vacations since the 1990s and this is the first time I've tried Spain. No desire to repeat the experience.

It was a very busy night as to be expected during the summer months, however we were able to get a table. Our server was very friendly, very knowledgeable of the menu and very patient with us as we did more chatting than looking at the menu to decide what to eat. I ordered the swordfish that was absolutely delicious even if it was slightly overdone. My friends ordered the stuffed veal chop that was also fantastic. After dinner we went to the bar for an after dinner drink the bartender (Manny) was hilarious and he too was very knowledgeable. I met some very friendly regulars and had a blast.I will definitely return!

I have been coming here for 10 to 12 years and was never disappointed . The garlic shrimp even to this day is to die for (jefe and papaya are still great). BUT, over the last two years I feel the food quality has gone down. There are less elegant menu items and more popular items popular with the family and kids, like veal/chicken parm, and pasta. 5 years ago you never saw that on the menu. I think the economy has forced them to offer more "family friendly" items to keep business up. I can understand this and I'd probably do the same if I owned it, but this change just made me more open to going and trying other places, like Basils, down the street

We celebrated our 45th anniversary here recently and both of us thought we had one of our best meals out in a long time. We started with the calamari which was surprisingly tender (served with hot peppers, some pickled vegetables and a marinara sauce), and followed it up with sole franchese and a rack of lamb - both were delicious and a great value (the rack of lamb had six ribs and was only $29). Finished with a shared piece of turtle cheesecake which was topped with real whipped heavy cream. We had heard about long waits at Spain, but they said 10 minutes when we arrived and it was less (tip - if you call ahead they told us they will put your name on a waiting list).

Service was impeccable. Seated in the promised wait time. During our wait we had sangria that was perfectly mixed. Unfortunately there was no tapas menu, but the standard menu was far from lacking. Black bean soup was slightly bland even with added salt it seemed to be lacking. We had the lamb chops, filet mignon and veal special which were perfectly cooked and extremely flavorful accompanied with perfectly cooked vegetables. Dessert was fantastic. Overall this is a lovely resturant.

On the evening of my visit to Spain of Narragansett, black sea bass was just delivered. I ordered it, and it was a true winner. It was served with spinach sauteed in olive oil and with a rice seasoned with saffron and a homemade stock. The blend of flavors was absolutely a treat. I truly look forward to my next visit at Spain.

By far the best of the two locations, even though they are no longer connected. The service was outstanding, by everyone - from the bus boy to our waiter, and everyone inbetween. They were professional, courteous, genuine and just plain nice. The Paella Marinara was not only delicious, but gorgeously presented. It was packed with fresh seafood cooked to perfection. It can easily feed 3, especially if you choose to add the grilled asparagus or a salad (which can feed 2). The outside dining area is lovely, comfortable, relaxing and worth the wait.

my husband and I come to Spain every year over the summer. We were looking forward to a nice meal on the patio last evening. We were told to pick any table out there. I think this restaurant should invest in patio furniture that goes along with the rest of the decor and prices. Something a little classier than plastic. We sat and waited for someone to acknowledge us and take our drink order but all waiters just kept walking by us. A party of six sat next to us and were immediately waited on for cocktails while we were still waiting. After 12 minutes, my husband called over a young man from another table to ask who our waiter was and that we had been waiting over 10 minutes. He apologized, took our drink order and said he would send our waiter, Jose, over. Jose was taking the drink order at the table of six! He had walked by our table several times and completely ignored us. Not a good way to start off. When be finally came over, I told him we had to call someone else over to order drinks and he didn't even blink. No apology. Nothing until the end of our dinner saying there was confusion when we got there. Jose wore a polo shirt that was unbuttoned completely with gold chains. Not something we should see in an upscale place. Food was OK. My husband had the filet and I had baked stuffed lobster. Neither meal was anything we would have to go back for any time soon. They weren't bad, just nothing special and we've both had better at other places in the state. Previous visits had been better than this but last night was disappointing.

Superb food. Understated, attentive service. Consistently for more than twenty years. I first dined with Spain Restaurant when it was located at Narragansett Pier. Back in the day, it had sweeping views of the ocean and the servers were all male and all Spanish (and freakin' HOT - did I write that?) Since then, they have moved down Ocean Road to a place that has not changed much since their circa 1990 relocation. The decor is clean but dated (think 90's modern stucco). The servers are no longer strictly Spanish but they are all still male (hmph). They are mostly atttractive. Not white hot as in the days of old. But let's review the food. Top notch, fresh and bountiful with every dish. I must order the paella when I come here and it is always more seafood and meat than rice. Plenty for my meal and lots left over for lunch - and dinner. My husband enjoyed a chicken dish lightly coated in egg batter with capers and lemon sauce. Three generous, tender chicken fillets were delicious accompanied with the garlic mashed potatoes. Every item was served piping hot and with style. My paella was served up table side with a smile. Go for your own personal pitcher of red sangria. A litte weak and watery this time 'round but still far above average with three personal pours full of fresh cut fruit. I think prices are super reasonable for the service and food quality. I would highly recommend this place. How can you go wrong with 20+ years of consistently great food and service?

  • Sisley C.

I can summarize this place in four words: pricey, delicious, and bad service. I came in here and it took about 15 minutes for a host to show up and take us to a table even though the place was not busy (about 8 tables were filled). The reviews were good for this place and there aren't many choices to choose from in the Narragansett area! I ordered the seafood paella and a pitcher of sangria. The seafood paella was everything I dreamed of and more! It was seasoned perfectly and the seafood was not over-cooked. The paella can feed two people so share with someone or prepare for leftovers. The sangria was delicious... Probably some of the better kinds I've had. Oh, and their calamari was awesome. The appetizer, two entrees, and pitcher of sangria came out to be about $90. Not cheap. The service was lacking as well... Not sure what the issue was. The food was great though so for me, that trumps over the service.

Service is superb. Sangria is superb. One of my favorite spots in Narragansett, especially during the warmer months when you can get a spot on the patio. I don't think you can do any wrong choosing anything on the menu. The best part about this restaurant is the consistent Old-World European service between the bartenders and waitstaff. I have friends who live out of state who still say they wish they had a restaurant like Spain near them.

Called ahead to see if we needed a reservation on a Thursday evening (not peak season), but they only take reservations for parties of 6 or more. Arrived and had to wait at the bar for 20 minutes or so for a table, so we ordered some sangria. The sangria was watered down but okay. The host came to find us in the bar area to show us to our table but forgot to bring menus, so we had to wait for those. The waiter arrived shortly thereafter to give us the specials and left to give us a few minutes to decide. He was gone for so long that they ran out of the fish special I wanted to order. We placed an order for two appetizers, a caprese salad special, and a paella. The waiter returned to finish pouring the rest of the half pitcher of sangria in our glasses and asked if we wanted anything else. I requested a wine menu. The appetizers arrived several minutes later, and the waiter never returned. We had to flag down another guy to get the wine menu and lemons, both of which arrived promptly. After about 20 minutes, the main course arrived, but the waiter still had not returned. After a significant period of time elapsed, the waiter finally returned to take the drink order. We were never asked if we wanted fresh ground pepper (didn't know they had it until another table asked), and the food was disappointing. The calamari tasted like it was previously frozen and thrown on a plate, and the paella was mushy and tasteless. I was nearly done eating by the time my glass of wine arrived. In short, terrible service and mediocre food....yelp reviewers should be more honest when rating. We had one night in town for a fancy dinner, and it was wasted at this place. Don't spend your time or money here.

We had a grand time at Spain, we ate out on a Friday night on the patio. 4 people. Between my father, mother, husband and myself, 3 app, 4 meals, bottle of wine, 3 drinks came to a surprisingly low 170$ I had the veal chop with asparagus and carrots, cooked perfectly, juicy and simply great, the vegetables were lightly steamed to perfection. Husband had a veal cutlet that he declared *wonderful* Paella and Mariscada for the parents, which they greatly enjoyed. Our waiter was great and friendly, he knew his stuff, very attentive without harassing us. We will definitely go back soon.

  • Jenna C.

I have never had better calamari. It's always melt-in-your-mouth, and the paella is excellent. The sangria is good, and they have a decent wine selection. Their veal dishes are also very good. It's pricey, but the ambiance in the summer, on the outdoor deck, is really quite nice. Parking is sometimes an issue, but there is a big lot across the street. I wouldn't bring young children here, unless they're foodies and can behave well. This used to be my family's go-to restaurant for celebrations, but my brother and I were quiet kids and liked seafood and exotic cuisines.

Enjoyed eating near the beach. Outside was unavailable, due to a wedding, but the inside was pleasant. Waiters were attentive, and knowledgeable (of menu items/specials). Choose a pretty thick cut of steak, asked for it well done. The middle was med. pink, tips were a bit charred, and lacked flavor. The mashed potatoes and seasoned veggies were fresh and flavorful. i believe I will return, to eat outside, aside the beach.

Amazing food, superb service. I can honestly say that I've never had a bad meal here. The food is always consistently delicious as are the drinks. It can get very busy in the summer and on the weekends so be prepared to wait, but the wait is worth it!

This was my first time here and I absolutely loved it! My boyfriend had decided to come here for lunch and it was so beautiful inside.. I bet at dinner with the dimly lit lights and fountain it's extremely romantic... But anyway I was recommended a stuffed salmon with crab cake stuffing it was out of this world.. My boyfriend had got a meal with veal in it which was simply amazing.. Even the bread was incredible.. I will defiantly be back again, this is our new spot!!

Had dinner here the other night with my wife and a couple of friends. We sat out in the patio which while very nice was not as nice as it should have been. Plastic chairs don't cut it in a restaurant like this! I know it's a detail, but for a fairly upscale joint like Spain, they should ditch the plastic chairs and invest in something finer. The food was very good. I got a rack of lamb, cooked a delicious med-rare. The wine sauce was tasty and the sides were fine as well. It was good, but not great. My wife had a salmon entree, also very good. The apps were fair. I was a little disappointed in the calamari - I know, it's a cliche dish, but I do like the damn things. Could've been a bit more tender. The stuffed artichoke app was fair, but I suppose there was nothing technically wrong with, I just wasn't in love with it. Dessert was poor. I ordered a slice of lemon-lime pie, which looked much better than it tasted. Lastly, our waiter was one sweaty bastard! Seriously, dude, go to the bathroom and friggin' towel off. Also, lose the ultra-dark sunglasses. When you speak to me, I want to see your eyes. I'd go back, but would probably prefer to sit inside, and get a waiter without a gland issue.

What a delightful way to end a spectacular day in Narragansett by having dinner at Spain. As it was a clear and beautiful evening, we opted for outside seating in the courtyard. Our table was next to one of the fireplaces which was generously stoked with huge logs throughout the evening. The ambiance couldn't have been better. The food was outstanding. My husband had the traditional paella and thought he had died and gone to heaven. I had the veal and portobello mushroom dish and our grandson had the pasta and shrimp. We couldn't believe the generous amount of shrimp that were in this dish. A yummy flan, shared by the three of us, finished off our delicious meal. The waitstaff was friendly and efficient especially our waiter Ryan. I rate Spain a 5 if you are eating outside but question whether I would like the dining room which was quite noisey. I highly recommend this restaurant. Cindy M

Made reservations for Father's Day/50th Anniversary celebration and everything was fantastic! Service was superb. Halibut was superb. I've only eaten here once and it was not nearly full, during the week for supper. The prices are not cheap but this place seems perfect for a special occasion or celebration. I would go back to Spain.

Paella for two is definitely worth ordering here. Bisque of the day was spicy and full of flavor. Pound cake with marzipan is also recommended. Portions are large -- plan to take home if you want desert. Good value. Service was very good and prompt. Decor is ok -- go for the food not ambiance, but they set us near the waterfall so our experience was a bit nicer. No view from the dining room. Bar looked inviting, as did outdoor patio. Very popular, plan accordingly -- we came early.

Favorite of the over 60 crowd and/or lots of blingy RI'ers. I have to say the food is solid. One issue: The Sangria. They're supposedly known for it. Upon further inspection I did notice the bartenders using pre-made Carlo Rossi jug wine sangria mix. Unacceptable. The decor also definitely needs a makeover. Just dated. Lots of stucco and wicker. Feels like I'm at a Florida restaurant catching the early bird special. I would push it up to 4 stars if they could work on the drinks (no booze in them) and the decor.

Spent last Sunday afternoon sitting at the long, well-lit bar watching the NFC Championship football game. Our bartender, Chang, fabulous as ever, was and always is super-nice, a terrific bartender and just seems to be a really decent person. I started with the shrimp cocktail. Perfectly done. Large. Chilled. Delicious. Then on to my lunch which was the Picasso Salad - Seasonal lettuce, artichoke heart avocado, red onion & endive in a balsamic, olive oil & basil vinaigrette. I added grilled chicken and asked them to grill the red onion which they did. The salad was fresh and big. Perfect for my healthy lunch. My wife had salmon and steamed vegetables. Simple. Plain. Fantastic. Of course, my wife and I split a bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc then I had aother glass (maybe two) of a different sauv-blanc so I am not sure how much the salad helped. The five of us had a terrific time as we always do. Try the coffee martini. Excellent. Or, for a twist, get the espresso with espresso sambuca. (I did). A.W.E.S.O.M.E. The espresso is always ground fresh and yes, you can tell.

Are you looking for fine Spanish cuisine? Spain of Narragansett has definitely upheld their prestige reputation when it comes to fine dining, fresh seafood, paella, and their sangria. Beautifully located next to the ocean and woods, Spain of Narragansett offers a great ambiance that almost makes you feel like you are walking into an old Spanish hacienda or estancia. The restaurant is simply adorned, yet still remains elegant and striking. The building is kept very clean inside and out and plenty of parking is provided with a full parking lot located across the street just south of the main entrance. Making reservations is highly encouraged, but not required. You see many local residents attending this establishment many times throughout the week for their moderate priced meals that are definitely worth every penny in quality, taste, and portion. They have a full size bar with a wide arrange of beers, liquors, and wines. The service was immaculate and very tenacious when it came to making sure our glasses where full, that our food taste and quality was up to par, and in answering any questions or concerns we had. Ask for Jose, he is the best server at this place; he is actually from Spain and has been working with the restaurant since they opened. I started my evening with a small pitcher of their sangria. I must admit I was a bit disappointed. The sangria wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best either. It seemed to be lacking citrusy and fruity flavor that sangria is supposed to have. It also lacked alcohol and after a short discussion with our server Jose, I had a freshly made pitcher of sangria with more fruit and alcohol in it making it a lot better. I also ordered their calamari as an appetizer and I must admit that it was outstanding. I have tried calamari in various different styles and in many different places and this was by far the best. They serve it with a delicious side of sweet marinara sauce, topped with a little bit of lettuce, cabbage, hot carrots, and jalapenos. For my main course, my dining companion and I shared the Paella Valenciana. It includes an abundant amount of shrimp, sea scallops, clams, mussels, chicken, chorizo, and calamari all mixed with mild spices and the best saffron rice you will ever have. The menu says Paella serves two but you could really serve three to four with this dish. Our night ended with Jose bringing out a tray with a wide arrange of deserts on it. While we were stuffed beyond belief from the delicious main course, I liked seeing the desert with my own eyes and letting me determine what I would like. Overall the place was exceptional, the food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. I strongly recommend giving this place a try.

I have to admit I was expecting much better, so my ratings may be a bit lower than if I didn't expect a better meal and dining experience. First of all, the waiter greeted us by saying, "How are you....I have had better days", with a rather dour expression, then adding, "Can you tell?". He was kidding of course, but it was an odd way to connect with us. He shared the specialties with more expression, but not much. After hearing about the Black Sea Bass special, I ordered it, only to find out that they were out of it. This was odd, given that the restaurant was half empty on a friday night. Then after encouraging me to try the beer on tap from spain, they returned to say they couldn't get the tap to work! On a positive note, we shared a tasty calamari appetizer (that could have had more calamari and I enjoyed a chicken vegetable soup with white beans and pasta. The swordfish special (a substitute for the sea bass) was overcooked and a bit mushy, but well seasoned, and the accompanying vegetables were perfectly cooked and delicious. My wife enjoyed her seafood paella and we shared a cocounut sorbet, served in a shell, drizzeled with chocolate, a nice touch. All in all, a disappointing meal, with below par service.

At Spain of Narragansett, you'll find a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, delicious food and great service at a price that doesn't break the bank. My family recently celebrated my grandparents 62nd anniversary and an aunt organized the late lunch on a Sunday. The restaurant is very large, with a good-sized bar area, an outdoor patio, and two floors for dining. I was told that the view from upstairs is gorgeous. We were seated on the ground floor, as some members of my family are not in a condition to ascend the stairs and there is no lift. The do have a ramp at the front of the building for people who are physically disabled or in a wheelchair. The food was very good. For appetizers, we ordered a couple plates of pan-fried calamari and a dish of mussels. The calamari rings were very tender, and though they were supposed to be spicy, the were quite mild. The cocktail sauce served on the side had a bit of a bite, so perhaps that was the spiciness they intended. The mussels were cooked in a butter, garlic and white wine sauce, which was also tasty, but be warned that they were very heavy with the garlic. Also as an app, I ordered a special salad with spinach, endive and walnuts in a honey mustard vinaigrette. The salad was a good size and could easily be eaten by one person or even shared with no problems. There was too much dressing for my taste, so not a bad idea to ask for it on the side if you don't want your greens swimming in it. There were a variety of main dishes ordered. There was paella, a special of stuffed salmon, another special of veal chop, stuffed chicken breast, filet of sole and others. Although I didn't try them, most everyone was very pleased with the quality and taste of their meals. I ordered the Basque style filet of sole, which was accompanied with clams, mussels and shrimp in a white wine and garlic sauce. The sole was tender and flaky, but didn't have much taste, but then again, that's the type of fish it is. The portion was sizable - enough for me to take some of it home for a decent second meal later in the day. The service was top notch, with the captain of our table being gracious and patient. The other staff members did a great job keeping our glasses full of water and sangria, as well as taking any odd requests. Overall, I really like Spain of Narragansett and would definitely dine there again. The food was very good and certainly a good deal for the price. Perhaps next time I will vie for an upstairs table to capitalize on the view.

Spain is one of the best restaurants in gansett. That secret is out though so if it has one negative aspect it's the crowds. The food is amazing. Great seafood dishes. Perfect for a nice date night.

This restaurant is near the shoreline in Narragansett and offers beautiful views. There are two levels to the restaurant, plus a bar, and the atmosphere is wonderful - fancy but still inviting. I'd dress as "business casual" for this restaurant, which has prompt, attentive service and much parking across the street. My partner and I ordered the paella for two, which was incredible. The rice was perfectly seasoned, and there was a lot of seafood along with chunks of sausage and chicken. It was a huge bowl - more than enough for the two of us. The other dishes (and specials) all sounded wonderful, but we will have to save those for next time. But there will definitely be a next time!

Such a very disappointing dinner at Spain this evening...although our waiter, Adam was wonderful, the rest of the wait staff could care less about customer service. We were so looking forward given all the great feedback it was nothing less than shock and awe with the level of noise required shouting to be heard. Worse yet was the profanity amongst the completely over the top drunks that were adding to the lovely back ground noise. We choked our food down and huddled out as quickly as we could. I tried to express my unhappiness at the front desk but sadly she provided a uninterested apology. Will not be going back, ever...

I think in the area this is as good as it gets. When we are in the area, this is a must have for us. Had dinner here the night we got engaged, and make it a point to always come back. Love the paella and always have a lobster on our table. Charlie is our go to waiter and he can tell you just about anything you need to know. We take our family and friends here. Sat outside for the first time this year (7/13/12) and loved the scene. Wash everything down with at least 1 Narragansett beer!

My husband and I dined at Spain on the 4th of July. We had been to Spain once before and had a pretty good experience so we decided to give it another try. We shared the artichoke heart appetizer and the salad special to start. Both were good but not out of this world. I had the sole francese and my husband had the basque style filet of sole. My husband thought his entree was good but could have used a bit more flavor. I took one bite of my fish and had a mouthful of bones. Our waiter happened to be walking by and noticed me spitting bones out on my plate. He was apologetic and offered to get me something new. Since I had lost my appetite for any type of fish I decided to try the pasta de vigo, basically a shrimp and linguine dish with vodka sauce. The vodka sauce was good and the portion was quite large. Unfortunately, the shrimp in the dish tasted awful. My husband and I each tried one shrimp and we both agreed that the shrimp had an awful metallic taste to them, a sure sign of old shrimp. After that I was ready to go and I won't be back!

Five stars across the board... Food, service, ambiance. Worth the wait on the most crowded of nights. If only all (or at least a few) Narragnsett restaurants would follow Spain's model...

**** 3.5 stars (knocked for awful service) **** I expected a lot from this restaurant that it just plain did not deliver on. The food was good, but a far fetch from Spanish flavors. I will give it the credit that the paella looked pretty amazing, but since I was dining alone I didn't want to waste half of the giant pan since my hotel had no refrigerator. One major caveat, they don't take reservations here, and if you go on a weekend night expect to wait 30 to 60 minutes for a table, even longer if people are just sitting around talking after dinner as was the case with 3 tables while I was waiting. The service here puts on airs of being very professional and attentive, but as you'll read it was far from that in actuality. Once the leather skinned couple who was wasting the table ahead of me finally decided to depart I was seated and not longer after greeted by what I thought was my waiter. Turns out it was just my waiters assistant, "Bradley", who must have been moonlighting away from his daytime job as an Abercrombie wanna-be model. I still have no clue what this guy's actual role in my dinner was, other than sweeping up my crumbs and getting me my check. Some other guy eventually came around and brought me some mediocre bread and water, but again vanished before I could give him my order. Jose, my waiter, or as they called him for some reason, my captain, was the third person to visit my table, and finally I was able to order dinner. I really liked the sound of the special, but mainly because I think it was something I wanted on the actual menu from the Cranston location. I decided to start with the artichoke hearts, because I just freakin love artichokes. They're served here stuffed with smoked ham, spinach & fresh herbs in some kind of slightly spicy tomato based sauce. I really loved them, except the quality of the ham was a little off, but overall they were really good and something I highly recommend anyone ordering. About halfway through finishing this dish however is where the real trouble began. Yet another waiter brought out my main course, after I had eaten about two and a half of the four artichoke hearts, and set it down on the table. He said "sorry sir, but they already made it." I didn't say a word, but the look I gave him must have been indication enough that this was not acceptable, because after standing there like an idiot he offered to take it back, which I obviously said yes to. Since it was the special of the night I expected a pretty quick turn around on my entree once I was actually ready to eat it, damn was I wrong. I waited at least another 20 minutes before they brought back out another plate, pretty inexcusable considering the number of them I saw going to other tables. Once it finally arrived I was taken aback by the sheer size of the dish, a mammoth heap of veal ( yelp.com/biz_photos/W74q… ) stuffed with ham, lobster, cheese, peppers, artichokes and mushroom, and served with a side of julianne veggies and mashed potatoes. This dish suffered the same ham problem as the artichokes, but at least the lobster ( yelp.com/biz_photos/W74q… ) tasted like it was slightly better quality. The veal itself was a bit tough, which is pretty hard to achieve, but the overall flavors were pretty solid. Once I was done it was yet another 30 minute wait just to get my check, which was really pissing me off since I was trying to make it to Brickley's ( yelp.com/biz/brickleys-i… ) before they closed at 10 for some of their highly praised ice cream. This was pretty much inconceivable to me, considering I had close to half a dozen different people stop by my table at various points of the night. This place could easily be a 5 star restaurant, and I'm sure it is to some people who've had better experiences. In my opinion they need to have much more consistent service, as well as actually incorporating more traditional Spanish flavor across their offerings.

We decided to go to the beach yesterday and wanted to get dinner locally before heading back to let the traffic subside. This place sounded good from the reviews here on yelp so we decided to give it a go. Maybe we just made some bad choices as it did not live up to the reviews. I would have given it two stars, but the seafood was so extremely fresh that I felt it still deserved the third star. Here are my complaints: Gin and tonics at the bar: we make them better at home. Also, I think at a restaurant bar, a G&T should run more like $5-6, not $7. This is a small point. Air conditioning in the main dining room: TOO STRONG! I had to take my hair out of braids to create a "hair blanket" so I wouldn't freeze to death. Paella: NO FLAVOR. Ick. Although my boyfriend reminded me that much of Spanish food does not have flavor, it was as if they had never been introduced to salt. And two lemon wedges were not enough to add a nice touch to the giant pan of paella served to us (I should have just asked for more). Granted, if you want bang for your buck, go for the paella, it was only $36 for a giant pan that the two of us could not finish and we did really enjoy the shellfish. The chorizo was pretty alright as well. My biggest complaint was at the end the waiter placed the bill directly in front of my boyfriend. I'm sorry, is this 1940? How chauvinistic! Granted most of the clientele in this place were teenagers in that era, but still, most restaurants place the bill in the center of the table. I was really annoyed that he assumed my boyfriend was paying. That said, the calamari were super fresh and tender, not chewy at all and the breading and frying was nice and light. I also appreciated that we could show up in our daggy beach clothing. There were a lot of other things on the menu that looked interesting, however, I will find another place to eat while waiting for traffic to subside for the next go because the atmosphere is enough of a deterrant that it's not worth it for fresh seafood.

This is a really great place. The food is consitently good and some items are super. Nice place to go to celbrate a special occasion or just a nice night out. Our waiter on our most recent visit was great. It was a terribly slow night (probably very depressing when you work for tips!), but he was funny and pleasant. Good bets: the clam and marinara appetizer, the beef wellington appetizer special, the black bean soup, the salmon entree, any of their steaks, and the scallops in the champange cider vineger sauce- all super. I'd pass on the paella if you are looking for that crispy rice bottom, theirs, while good, is more liked seafood with rice. Overall, very nice!

This is our go to babysitter worthy restaurant. We love it! My husband always gets the fish special here as it's fresh and usually prepared better than I can do at home. Limited appetizer menu if you do not like fish. I prefer the main dining room to the outside, bar or upstairs. I think the year round staff is in the main dining area and the summer help everywhere else. Specials are usually very good, sangria yummy, and I have never had it but the stuffed lobster looks amazing but a big portion. They are also usually very flexible. I have gotten the shrimp appetizer with rice and veggies as an entree and seen them do jeje for one. Service is always excellent in the main dining area. Always at the top of our list.

I was part of a party of ten after the URI commencement on Sunday, May 20th and the graduate made reservations at the Spain Restaurant. We were seated upstairs where other graduate parties were also held. I had one of the veal dishes and it was excellent for only $20. Others had rack of lamb, sirloin steak, scallops and another veal dish. Portions were plentiful. We had pitchers of sangria along with wine and beer. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portions presented. Everyone said their meal was very good. I shall return on my next visit to Narragansett.

The layered flavors are amazing in most of their dishes. Many are fans of their baked stuffed lobster. Others find the swordfish to be the best. I find their roasted chicken competes with the New Orlean's restaurant K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen (the best roasted chicken I have ever had). I was more in the mood for sushi the last time I went, which was vetoed by my gang. So I ordered double shrimp cocktail and had some of the best shrimp. They snapped. The flavor was perfect. The presentation and the ambiance around me was top notch. And the all male wait staff worked as an orchestrated team and was a show in itself. Yet the average age in the inside dining room is older than I would have expected. I will try the outside area this summer to see if the crowd is a little younger out there.

Living in the SF area and dating a girl who likes good food I eat at a lot of very nice restaurants; I have to say that this is one of the best meals that I've had in a long time. I had called ahead and they put my name down on the list. When we got there they still had to setup the table so we sat down and ordered a pitcher of Sangria. I found the Sangria to be a little too sweat for my tastes, but my parents and brother enjoyed it. My family started off with a couple of the appetizers: the Calamari, the Spain Salad, and Pipirana Salad. The calamari was absolutely delicious! Super tasty, very fresh, and practically melted in your mouth. They were a little bit spicy, which was perfect! We had calamari at a couple other restaurants on our trip and none compared to Spain's. The Spain and Pipirana Salads were also delicious. I had the White Zinfindel dressing on the Spain salad and I really enjoyed it. For dinner I split the Paella Valenciana with my father (Seafood Paella with Shrimp, sea scallops, clams, mussels, chicken, chorizo, calamari, saffron rice and mild spice). The spices were not spicy, but they were extremely flavorful. The fish was all perfectly cooked and my father and I had to keep swatting hands of the rest of my family away because they kept trying to steal our meal! My brother had the Shrimp Paella, which he also really enjoyed. My brother had the swordfish, which was on special, and although he enjoyed it, he didn't absolutely love it. We had a chocolate mousse thing for dessert (I think? whatever it was ...) that was delicious! The portions were incredibly huge. We all came home with leftovers, which sadly got wasted because we were on vacation and kept eating out at other restaurants. The one nitpick thing that I didn't like was our waiter. He just had this very strange mannerism to himself, he spoke kind of weird (it was hard to understand him), very slowly, and almost like a robot. At one point he took our bowls for fish shells away in the middle of our dinner! We didn't know if he was emptying them or taking them away for good! Sure enough, he brought us back clean bowls, but he could have said something to us. Overall though, the service was great (just because I didn't like our waiter didn't mean that his service was bad)-- our water was refilled often, they had several waiters checking up on us and making sure everything was alright. If I'm back in the Newport area I'll definitely be going back!

The food at Spain of Narrangansett is much better than Spain, Cranston. The paella was delicious and the swordfish, cooked perfectly. The only thing that needs work is the decor - it's outdated.

Our wait was much longer than they originally told us and the waiter was distant and unfriendly. The food itself was good enough though the restaurant lacked atmosphere. It was perfect for an out of towner but on my next visit to RI, I'll definitely be looking for something different.

WOW, what can I say! was there at restaurant week with specials to die for! Started out with sangria... Sixto is the best! Then we had the garlic grilled shrimp with shrimp so fresh it had that "snap" to it. It was tasty and absolutely delicious. A salad was had by a friend that was amazing. The grilled salmon was flakey, wonderful, and as fresh as could be. The pork chops were juicy and thick with a pile of garlic mashed potatoes and a mix of vegetables. The pasta viggo was superb. The best for last... creme brule that was the most creamy, dreamy, and delicate presentation I have ever experienced. Amazing bar staff, excellent food, a true go to place for a special treat, special occasion, or when you want to experience the extraordinary.

Highly recommended if you're looking for a nice dinner with a casual atmosphere (jeans, shorts, and t-shirts are OK as are blazers and skirts). There is full food service at the bar - just in case you want to watch another glorious Red Sox game while enjoying your meal - it's also a bit more relaxed than opting for the standard dining room. My dining partner and I started with the calamari appetizer. Perfectly breaded and extremely tender - there was so much of it that it could serve as an individual meal. We then split the paella and it was a bargain at $32. Very generous amounts of seafood - shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams, and calamari as well as chicken and chorizo. There was plenty of food left over - so this dish could easily serve 3-4 people without problem. The pitcher of sangria was super fruity but disappointingly weak on the alcohol scale (Hey, I wasn't driving! You'd be a little bummed out too!). Regardless (or "irregardless" as they say in some parts of RI) Spain is still a great place to hang out after a day of sun, sand, and salt.

My fiance and I came here with his parents last weekend. They had said it was 'very tasty food' - definitely not an understatement. It was a very relaxing atmosphere and great waiter service. Our captain made sure to inquire about everyone at the table. For appetizers, we ordered calamari. Perfectly cooked (for once!) but a little on the blah side in terms of taste. The fried jalapenos and hot peppers that came with it were amazing though. I ordered a special: veal with ham and cheese on top and stuffed with artichoke hearts, ham, and more cheese. My fiance ordered the lamb and everyone else got the sirloin steak. Food was cooked perfectly with very generous portions and our glasses were never empty. The only thing that I was a little surprised about was that they did not have a wine list (maybe because it's RI?) but they had an alcohol list. Next time I come, I'm going to order the sangria since I've heard it's good.

Spain has always been our go-to special occasion restaurant when we are in Narragansett and it has never disappointed us. We recently went for my father-in-law's 65th birthday with a party of 12 and both the food and service were exceptional, as always. Although you can't go wrong with whatever you choose, some must haves are the calamari, clams casino, mussels in green sauce, veal chop, lamb chops, and Block Island swordfish when they have it as the dinner special. I have yet to have a bad meal here or at their sister location in Cranston. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

This is the restaurant that my family goes to for any big family event (anniversary, birthday, etc). The service is outstanding...very attentive, helpful, and courteous. The food is equally as impressive. There are usually four or five specials, and I have yet to order a dish from the regular menu that I disliked. The sangria is a nice treat, too. The portions are pretty big, but the prices aren't outrageous for such fine dining. Plus, the location down in Narragansett is nice for people who don't make it down to the shoreline very often. Highly recommended.
