I reviewed Galaxie only a couple months ago after a few successful visits, but after another visit where our server never returned with change (I guess he just ASSUMED he deserved a generous tip) and a couple of negative takeout experiences, I must make a change to my rating. The food still tastes great in my opinion. I don't order the sushi so I can't comment on that, but the dishes I get are good. Most recently, I ordered take out today through Yelp with the online ordering option. It took them about 35 to finally provide us with our order of Nime Chow, Tom Yum soup, and spring rolls. None of which should have taken 35 minutes to prepare (especially when they never seem to take that long when we dine in). After finally being handed our bag of food, we were on our way. Several minutes later, I get a phone call asking if we had ordered chicken chow mein. I said no. The lady said they had accidentally put that in our bad too and asked if we could return. My response was, "we're almost home. You want us to turn around and drive back because YOU made a mistake?" Fortunately, she said never mind, but even the fact that we were asked to turn around to remedy an error that was not ours was really appalling, especially considering how long we had to wait for our order. Oh, and the restaurant was completely empty so you can't even say that they were really busy and got overwhelmed. They are just incredibly disorganized. While we were there, another girl showed up to pick up a sushi order and they had no idea where her order was or even what she had ordered. She had to call her friend to find out exactly what the order was supposed to be. Sorry, but that's pretty bad. And when all was said and done, our soup was missing the mushrooms that it contained on previous visits... and no fortune cookies. I like the food here in general, or else I would simply stop dining here/ordering out from here, but with that said, I will seriously reconsider the frequency since service is not that great.

This place used to be great. I called to order takeout and was rudely put on hold them hung up on. I called back figuring it was a mistake and the man who answered was extremely rude. After ordering and given 20 minute estimate I arrive 25 minutes later and was told my food wasn't ready. 10 minutes later I asked about my food and it had been sitting on the counter the whole time. The pad Thai was super bland and the spring roles were in edible. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone. Horrible experience. Do not eat here.

We read reviews on yelp and decided to try this place whilst we were out. We were the only ppl there. Our waiter could not understand us. We ordered the love boat and it only comes with one soup and one salad. The sushi tasted fine, but it was not proper sushi rice and it was more like boil in a bag. We asked for green tea and got black tea. We asked for the desert menu and got the bill instead. We won't be going back. I was going to give them two stars, but downgraded it to 1 as I had some illness issues after eating the food. If I wan't Sushi, I'll just go to Jackie's or this place in Johnston next to the PetSmart.

It was ok. The food was ok very bland. The Chicken with garlic sauce was not spicy as indicated in tthe menu. When asked what something was. I received an attitude. Will not go back

Food is OK. Service was not so great one night. A group of us took about 15 minutes to browse the menu before we knew what to order one night, and it seemed like the waiter was getting increasingly upset or frustrated that we didn't know what we wanted within the 15 minutes. He came back to the table 3 times to check-in before we told him we were ready. Normally I know what I want right away, and they have always been friendly in the past, so perhaps they prefer fast-paced service and menu selection decision-makers? Used to have great experiences here with good food. May have gone on an off night. Won't deter me from continuing to go... Good, convenient location. Their chop suey and pad thai are usually good.

We are not going back in this place anymore.. You guys need to watch out especially when you get a SASHIMI!! They rip you off.. You always always need to count whatever you order.. The OWNER???? Freakin RUDE!! He said his CHEF KNOWS WHAT HES DOING because that what he do ALL DAY LONG!! But you know the funny thing is, the WAITRESS said hold on you mean you only have 3 Salmon? ( We ordered 2 orders of Tuna, Salmon & White Tuna) My husband explained about the missing SASHIMI.. She said yeah don't worry I believe you.. Lol, so either she knows that they used to do this with those costumers.. Lol.. Anyways I'm never coming back!! Good luck whoever the owner is.. Good luck with your business!! "NEVER CALL YOUR COSTUMER A LIAR". Not good for business you know that!! Thanks!

Awful service -there was no other customers yet they took a long time to serve us. Food was repellent. Avoid.

I'm not sure what happened to this place but it is truly not good anymore. The parking lot is always empty and now I know why. I ordered chicken Pad Thai that was bland and cold, and it almost seemed like it was old and reheated. Bleh! When you ask for tea you think you were asking them for a million bucks - I got hesitation and a dirty look....OK, sorry I won't ask again, better yet I won't be returning at all! All of the people working there were unfriendly and the place was totally empty. I truly feel sorry for them, but my hard earned money can be spent at far more places with better food and service.

Don't judge the exterior! Go inside and check out the beautiful interior! Comfy seats and dim lights are my fav qualities for a restaurant. Delectable crunch and a crisp freshness on the sushi. Would definitely come back again

I wanted sushi since I was in Chicago, but I was lazy. Now I'm on vacation in RI, I decided to go with my friend. Well, we ordered Rock n Roll, and lunch special (3 rolls consist of shrimp tempura, spicy crab, and sweet potatoes), there are other rolls you could choose from. The sushi was good, and the service wasn't bad either. Overall, it was a good experience.

I MADE A YELP ACCOUNT JUST TO LET EVERYONE KNOW ABOUT MY AWEFUL EXPERIENCE HERE I used to come here every night with my father 10 years ago when it was under different management. We loved it. ordered take out there yesterday. When I went to pick it up my stomach dropped because I thought I was walking into an abandoned building. The entrance was pitch black, and the glass doors were all shattered. No music, nobody eating inside. I should have walked out like I wanted to but I picked up my vegetable pad thai. When i ate it at home the vegetables were very old and overcooked. The broccoli smelled. I gave it a try. FOOD POISONING ALL NIGHT. I JUST FINISHED THROWING UP THIS MORNING. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!!!! unless you like throwing up

The establishment looks like a dive inside and out but that does not affect the quality of service nor the quality of the food that they serve. The service was very fast and the food was pretty good. Everything came out hot and smelled and tasted very good. This place won't blow your mind but it is a nice Chinese restaurant.

Ordered lunch from galaxie today and I Am pleasantly surprised. Living not to far I am always passing by so I decided to check out the menu . I got the lunch sushi combo I order a spicy tuna and a Philly roll which came with a huge miso soup and I order a side of salmon sashimi all that for $13!! The sushi is so fresh and delicious it is my new go to sushi place in Rhode Island ! I really don't know why this place is not more common . I have yet to try other items but the sushi alone is enough to keep me coming back ! Being a sushi snob I would recommend this place to another sushi snob (:

We hadn't planned on eating at Galaxie today but our planned destination was closed for lunch on Sunday. We were on our way to Plan B when we spotted Galaxie and thought we'd give it a try. We wanted sushi and we were not disappointed. Our rolls - Salmon, spicy tuna and a special roll - were fantastic. The chicken teriyaki and calamari tempura appetizers were also great. I really liked the light batter on the calamari. The service was very friendly. In fact, when I questioned a price difference on the receipt vs. the menu (more to test my own memory than to argue about a quarter) they corrected it quickly. Will visit again the next time we're craving Japanese food.

There's a brand new menu and a fresh coat of paint over at the old Galaxie. So I stopped in for the Grand re-Opening last week, I guess the official opening reception is tonight. They have added a Sushi Bar, and with it a few pages of Japanese fare, and removed a few tables from the dining room, really opening the space up. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the biggest change, Galaxie now serves drinks. Truthfully, I am a bit less enthusiastic about this one. Left a really nice bottle of champagne in the car because of it. BYOB no more. Thankfully, the drink menu includes a few Japanese beers, with a dozen or so $6.75 martinis thrown in for good measure, and a unique take on a scorpion bowl, I forget what it's called. One thing they forgot, how to make the same old food I am used to. The spring rolls were great, and steaming, piping hot, but the peanut sauce was replaced by a sweet and sour sauce of dissapointment. The Pad Thai noodles were overcooked and gluey, and the peanut sauce was missing once again. The Lo Mein dish was just as good as always, with an atypical vinegary finish that brightens up the normally greasy dish. Next time, maybe I'll be more adventurous, and try the new menu out, because the same old dishes just aren't the same.

Went from really good to really disappointing within a mater of months... I've been going to Galaxie since it was Galaxy -over 20 years. The quality fell off years ago when the original chef moved on. I was excited to see ownership change and decided to take a chance. We were amazed at the quality of food. The sushi cake was addictive. (I've even served it at parties at my home.) The nime chow was fresh and well rolled with some new options like teriyaki chicken inside for none fish eaters, etc. Bee bong and loc lac we're wonderful as were some of the more pedestrian favs like shrimp fried rice, chicken wings, crispy beef. We told all our friends and went often. Then something changed. Don't know what happened, but the quality slowly faded. First we thought it was just an off night. The next time was off too, but it had become a favorite place of ours so we weren't ready to give up. Last night was our last visit. The special was toro. It had a faint odor and was really not good. It was even slightly icy as though it wasn't completely thawed. I sent it back. The owner came over to the table and told me that just yesterday "a customer loved it and ordered 3 more orders". I replied, "well maybe it was still good yesterday, but it's not good today." We're done. Beware of quality. (Also, I agree with the reviewer that had a problem with the restroom. Even the Women's restroom has it's own quirky space issues.)

I dont know what the hype is. I didnt think the food was excellent. The rice was a little bland. The last time I went, it was close to closing time, but that doesnt mean you only need to fill up my glass once. I left satisfied, but i didn't think i should have paid that much for eh food and meh service. Maybe it was just a bad night...

We went to Galaxie because we were in the area and hadn't been in a long time. to our plesant suprise we found the exterior freshly painted and the interioir completely redone. It has a nice new look and feels more open that the previous setup. They now have sushi on the menue too. We didn't try any this visit but there were a few unique looking roles that I want to go back and try. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Even wait staff for other tables made sure things were going well for us. Everyone had a smile and was in a good mood. The fried rice had a good consistency and great flavor. Many times you find a dish like this hides behind too much soy. This was light in colour and drew its tastyness from the ingredients. I had the chicken mooshi. I am always on the quest for the best mooshi around. While I have had better, this made the short list of places I would go for my mooshi fix.

I've heard a lot about the Galaxie/Jacky's restaurants and have heard this one of the "better" ones. It was kind of quiet while we lunched so our food came out very quickly. I opted for sushi, which arrived before my dining companion's meal, which wasn't orchestrated well by the server. My salad's dressing was kind of bland and the sushi was ok. It tasted fresh, but slightly fishy. I chose a Philly roll as one of my options; the cream cheese had a very distinct flavor, which I wasn't so sure about. It didn't taste "bad" just "strong". I'm not sure how else to describe it. The prices were very reasonable and my friend very much enjoyed her nime chow, pad thai and veggie "delight" - but I tried the later two and didn't think they were anything to write home about. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about with this Rhode Island "chain" of Asian restaurants, but I certainly won't rush to return when there are so many other wonderful dining options.

Galaxie, how I miss you so! There is nothing like going to a restaurant and being remembered; it gives my tummy warm butterflies and just makes me order more food! As a vegan, I usually stick to the places I know best because its a little difficult trying to relay your dietary restrictions to every place when all you want to do is sit down and scarf down some soup. It has been about 6 years since I first started coming here and the before and after of their renovations can make anyone think they were at a whole new establishment. And the food selections? They got bigger, better and more healthy! Galaxie's owner and their amazing waitresses never fail to make me feel like I'm right at home. I've brought and referred so many people here because when the food is A+, the service is A+ and the prices are A+++, how can you not want to share this place with your loved ones? Thank you for providing world class service, you guys are awesome!

The reason why i'm giving this place a three star rating is becuase the food is very good and in-expensive for what you get. However, the service is awful. The entire wait staff appears to have no concept of service and seriously needs some training. It's always the same scenerio where after they serve you your meal you never see the waiter again until you're ready for the check. You have to wave them down if you have questions, complaints, re-fills of water, etc.. My last visit was very interesting where you could hear the workers in the kitchen constantly yelling at each over God knows what. Also, after the bill was handed to us the waiter stood behind our booth waiting for the money. It was a very uncomfortable experience. Until they fix the service in this place i suggest take out is the better option.

Ohhhh Galaxie. We have quite the love/hate relationship, don't we? In some ways, I miss the old days with the crappy tables and cheap chairs. The Nime Chow was AMAZING back then and I loved the soups. It seems like these days the menu has become a little more complicated and the attention is given to sushi. That being said, I do love your sushi. I am embarrassed to admit that I ate here 3 times in 2 weeks, but just keep reading. The lunch deals are too good to pass up. 2 sushi rolls and soup for $8? Add an order of spring rolls to split with a friend and it is the perfect lunch. 3 of us had lunch for $25. Not too shabby. I do love the Bento boxes as well. If you want a little more variety, this is the way to go. My favorite has dumplings, a tuna roll, 3 pieces of sushi, avocado salad, and a soup. We ordered take out recently for dinner. I had the beef Pad Thai and a tuna avocado roll. I'm a tuna fan, big time. Anywhere I've ordered sushi, I have to try theirs and I will judge a place for it. Galaxie passed my test. The piece of fish was enormous. It had that deep pink color that screams fresh. Two weeks later, I am still impressed and craving that roll again. Hopefully it will be just as good next time and restore my faith in Galaxie.

The quality of the good was better before the remodel. The waitstaff doesn't speak any English and can't communicate. Service is rude!!!!

A gross experience. As we waited 20 minutes for someone to come over we sat and talked, then ordered our food, then noticed a big roach climbing the wall coming from under the booth. I cant even imagine how many were in the dark space in or under the booth. When we told the owner he grabbed a napkin and smashed it. He apologized and said that they had an exterminator come every two weeks but now summer is here he will be here once a week. We asked if he has a problem with roaches and he flat out said they come in the food from the distributor. Can you believe he said that like that made it any better. Its gross, saran wrap over the sushi which is weird and maybe now we know why. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Any restaurant who has to admittedly spray for roaches every week is not somewhere I want to eat. Anyway we told him we lost our appetite and left. I wish there was a no star rating.

Just ordered for $70 of food, and when we arrived home, $20 worth of food was missing and most of it was the main entree. Very upset and disappointed.

Ordered from this place twice before. The third and last time I went there this happened. The lady couldn't speak English or understand it. I was going to order about $25 worth of food. I just wanted my chicken wings to be sticky on the platter, she wouldn't do it. I told her you can charge me extra she said no you have to order a individual order for that. I have never had this happen before. I just told her fine I will order from some place else and left. I should note the other 2 times the food was mediocre at best.

Not too shabby- surprisingly so! First time around (that right there means it wasn't too bad.. there was a second time), my husband and I both had pad thai. The noodles were cooked perfectly & there was a nice garnish of fresh chopped peanuts on top. Mine had vegetables mixed in which were cooked nicely- al dente, not complete mush. Second time around, the husband didn't enjoy his fried noodle entree but his appetizer - the pu pu platter - had great classic chinese-american favorites.. nothing was too greasy and the flavors were right on. They give pretty large portions, so you get what you pay for!

It's disappointing to see such a negative rating. Now that I am closer to the area I've visited Galaxie more than a handful of times. The food is always on point. They have amazing fried vegetarian chive dumplings which I love! They really get a fantastic twist on them. I was a little skeptical when I heard they added a sushi bar, but its great! I've always enjoyed the sushi here! The rolls are good and inventive. Sometimes they are a little small, and definitely expensive. However, it's totally worth it. The food is definitely traditional, homemade, and tasty! The only qualm I have is the service. There is definitely a language barrier. We have made our requests very simple and specific as to not be incorrect but sometimes they bring the wrong thing and act hostile when you ask to have the correct thing. However, for the most part I've never had bad food or a bad experience! I'd definitely recommend it for anyone who enjoys eclectic Asian cuisine!

Absolutely beyond sucked! I completely understand we ordered on NY Eve. I completely expected to wait at least 2 hours for my "to go" order... hence ordering 2 hours before I wanted to pick it up. Then to wait in line for an additional 1 &1/2 hours to pick up my order was ridiculous! Almost no choice since by that time the only things open requiring no reservations were KFC & BK! Now, let's chat about the food... a definite high point was my husbands seafood delight. Too bad I don't eat that because it looked and he says it was fantastic! Everything else you ask? SUCKED! All the (6) apps were clearly cooked much earlier in the day and stone cold. The duck was as dry as if it had been cooked last year, frozen, then microwaved... it too was cold. The Pad Thai? 1 big pile of stuck together noodles, cold & no flavor. I will never, ever, ever eat there again. PS... while 25 or so of us were waiting in the 2 hour line (everyone ordering much earlier in the day), the freakin' place kept taking orders! Shame on them. BTW, thanks for a memorable 2nd anniversary dinner... at least our champagne will be good at midnight! Can you tell I'm upset? I logged on to complain on NY's & on my anniversary!

Great food, good service... I have been visiting Galaxie for over 10 years now and I must say that they are consistantly above average. I have to admit, I order the same thing every time... but what I order is always fantastic. My order is Chicken Pad Thai with an appetizer of Spring Rolls. The Spring rolls are the best I have ever had here, in Boston, NYC and LA. They are always served piping hot, with a perfectly thin flaky crisp outer shell. The peanut sauce is a mandatory accoutrement (both for the Pad Thai AND the Spring Rolls.) Complimentary tea is served to all patrons. The restaurant is in need of update, but it is always clean and presentable.

The nim chow was okay. Tried another dish that was the ma po tofu and the flavors left a bit to be wanting. Nice servers and that was definitely a plus, but I didn't see quite enough to really be wowed.

Ever since this place changed owner's it is now practically a new establishment (they should've just changed the name). I actually felt tricked when I went in there after they reopened. The place is run by Chinese people now instead of Cambodian and the menu and food reflects that. The food itself isn't bad, I was just taken back by the change. I went to a Cambodian restaurant expecting Cambodian food and instead had a Chinese meal. Now knowing what this "new" Galaxie had to offer, I went again and was sadly disappointed. I went in a small group, 4 adults and 3 young children, everything was as normal until we were leaving. The server stopped my sister-in-law who just happened to be the last one to walk out and told her that we had not left enough for tip. We had left approximately 15% (give or take, I don't remember exactly) as that is the amount he deserved based on his service. He then proceeded to tell her that large groups had to pay 20% (I think that's what he said). Regardless, it wasn't stated on the menu that "large" groups were required to pay a certain gratuity % as it usually states in restaurants with this policy, we were not in a large group, if gratuity was required, why was it not included on the check, and how dare they tell us we didn't tip enough!! Tips are optional. Unbelievable. Needless to say I will not be returning.

We have nearly stopped looking for competition in Chinese and Asian cuisine in Providence. We are big fans of the food at Apsara (South. Definitely not the other Apsara on the East side.). We've gone past Galaxie Chinese on Reservoir Ave. in Cranston a hundred times and one Sunday night finally decided to test it out. Our experience there was fairly un-unusual. It's a big, bright unpretentious space that could easily have once been or someday be an Applebee's. They had a tall Pan-Asian menu, replete with all the familiar choices, but no surprises. The list of so-called "specials" might be longer than the regular menu itself. We tried the Lemongrass Shrimp and the Shanghai Noodles; the former slightly more remarkable than the later. We also ordered the crab wontons which I would recommend for an appetizer. It's a clean, if non-descript atmosphere and perfectly friendly service. They did charge us a $1.75 for an additional bowl of rice which I frankly found less of on inequity than just an embarrassment for them. Galaxy doesn't present anything memorable for your special night out or as a place to take your out-of-town guests (by the way, I wouldn't take anyone I want to impress into Apsara either). Galaxie is probably good enough to recommend for take out. Unless you live nearby, it's not a convincing reason to go to Cranston.

This place serves crap on a plate. Seriously, it's gross. I thought it was related to Jacky's Galaxie in North Prov, but apparently not. Don't ever go to this place, the food is dripping in grease, it's dirty and it smells inside. The only good thing I guess is that the prices are fairly cheap.
