I attended an outing in their event room last week. Overall the food and beer was good and very nice and clean. The decor was confusing almost everything suggested French decor with the exception of the beer steins on the wall. Then there was the Italian music... I suppose after a few vats of beer it won't matter.

Excellent. Service was great. Food is fresh. German food is distinct and these guys nailed it. It is authentic. At the end of the bike path, a great place for a cool refreshing beer (grapefruit schofferhofer) and a perfect grilled cheese with a salad, and of course, fries. Hey even have a kids menu!

When Redlefsen's gets it right, it's really good. But other times, it can be lacking. I wouldn't drive more than 20 minutes to come here unless you're spending the day in Bristol and need lunch. Redlfesen's is a good place to eat dinner if you live in the area, and don't feeling like cooking at home. Most of the entrees are priced too high in my opinion when you take into consideration the ambiance of the restaurant. The decor is nice with a European flair but it does feel a bit outdated and it's always dead in the dining room. Also, the service is just OK. On a recent visit I ordered a hefewiezen but our waitress brought me a dark beer by the same company. When I asked about the beer I ordered, she admitted that she couldn't remember which one I wanted and the other one kicked so she just gave me this one. It wasn't a big deal and my husband ended up drinking the dark beer but still, had I been eating a $30 steak I really would've expected to get the right beer I ordered or at least be notified that it had sold out. Luckily, I know the drill now and I stick with apps and salads at Redlefsen's; this is how you get a tasty meal and leave satisfied without having spent a ton of cash. I usually always get the Caesar Salad. I really like that salad. It's nothing fancy but it is consistent. The Mixed Seafood fry is also very good. I like the calamari too but the last time we ordered it, there wasn't a single tentacle leaving me wishing and hoping that it wasn't pork bung! For a really great time here, come on a warm sunny day, sit on the patio and order a Shofferhofer Grapefruit Hefeweizen, split the Fritto Misto, order a few salads (the Red's salad is also very tasty!) and then share a plate of Spaetzle (even though it doesn't usually come with the crispy onions as promised).

I loved the atmosphere. It appeared that the owner swung by the table behind us to chat them up; I thought it sweet. It was late afternoon and had the choice to order from either the lunch or dinner menu, as a meat-avoider, there were plenty of options from both menus. The beer selection is very good as well. The reason for the two stars was the food, service and prices. My linguine with asparagus and mushrooms, I don't think the mushrooms were fresh, the asparagus could have had the tough ends trimmed off, and it was sitting in a bath of oily liquid. My husband felt his cod was too oily as well. Our servers switched off in the middle which may have contributed to having to flag one of them for a forgotten beer order and that we had wanted split checks. And for this price point, I want to be full and looking for when we can make an excuse to go back, but that was just not the case.

I'm a little torn writing this because I want to give four stars, but the price for what we got seemed a bit high. Let's start with the good - it's a pretty place inside with all of the hanging lights, so it makes for a romantic place to eat at night. Score! They have a good selection of German beers on tap and they were reasonably priced. Score! The mussels with bacon appetizer was one of the best mussels appetizers I have ever had, as the smoky bacon was the ultimate compliment to the mussels and whatever sauce they used. Double Score! So what wasn't a "score" in my book? First, there was no one in the place at 8pm aside from another couple that walked in at the same time as us, and they put us right next to each other in the bar area. A table of eight came in near the end of our meal and they were seated, yep, you guessed it, right next to us. So you have a big restaurant, only three parties, and you seat us on top of each other? The table of eight inquired of the hostess about this and she told them that they weren't seating people in the main dining room. Sigh. Also, our main dishes were good but they were pricey for what you got. For $21 my wife was expecting more than two sausages and some cabbage with her Grilled Wurst Platter, and my wife is a small woman so for her to say that is something. I could see coming back if I had a Groupon (or equivalent), but $120 for the two of us was a bit high for the overall value. It's good, but the prices stop it from being great.

I'm a fan of German food! One of my favorite cuisines, I just wish there were more german offerings on the main menu and not just Wednesdays and Thursdays. I give the Beer selection 5 STARS. The food is just average, I have never been blown away. The Wiener Schnitzel is good but I would like to order a different german entree. There are so many RI restaurants with menus similar to this, it's very meat and potato. I guess it could be that there are not enough people locally to support a real German menu. I will always recommend Redlefsen's because its the only place I can find great German beer and Wiener Schnitzel.

The food is good and the effort of creating an authentic Bavarian decor is commendable. But... $22.95 for a humble pork schnitzel?! Even with the less than favorable exchange rate of the Euro a pork schnitzel never costs more than $12USD. Across the board the pricing is a solid 70% more than the going rate for this level of every-day humble German fare. Nice recreation of the taste and sights of Bavaria but this will never be an every-day family establishment, as the intended vibe suggests, with fine dining prices. German food is by definition common simple food. The ingredients and preparation are all basic and none are difficult to obtain. My family spoke with the owner (Jeff?) during our last visit and he is a very friendly guy who made us feel at home. Nice personal touch. Customer suggestions: - Beer alone - Go whenever you get the itch. pricing is fair - Family/couple meal - Good for a once in a while visit maybe 1x every other year unless you find a coupon. If you get a meal, app and a drink you will be over $60 per person incl tip. Its a nice place but not in that price category. (FYI, common sense tells me not to use a coupon if you're on a date! :) Owner suggestion: -Please please consider a more appropriate value for the meals. Pricing is a common theme in the majority of the yelp reviews. You have a unique establishment in the area and although money is good to make your pricing very well may be holding you back from Redlefsen's becoming a time honored Bristol institution with families eagerly awaiting their next meal.

I rarely find myself in the Bristol/Warren area - but Yelp! guided me here when I happened around town one weeknight and it sounded very appealing. Having been to Berlin - and finding out the Wiener Schnitzel had nothing to do with wieners, I thought it would be a nice change of pace. The outside patio was full, but the main dining area was empty. I found out later that they had a drink & paint event in the rear bar area (the space is actually much bigger than it let's on) which was full as well. Looking over the options, there were several menu items I was interested in trying - but in the spirit of keeping it safe, I went with the Wurst platter and a bowl of gumbo and washed it down with a Shofenhoffer grapefruit wiezen (I've been looking for this on draft and was psyched to find it). The gumbo was decent but I wasn't a fan on the large veggie chunks. Most gumbo I have had has much smaller, diced veggies added in. Namely the okra put me off - but it was still tasty. My wurst platter was served with spatzle - which wasn't for me, but the wife loved, sauerkraut, one brat and one Bauer. I was disappointed with the meat portion size - especially for 21$. The wife had the baked stuffed cod - which she enjoyed, but again I found the portion size small (27$). Each kid played it safe with an order of spaghetti. All in all it was decent - but the bill in relation to what I ate was too rich for my blood. It's a rather casual place and I didn't see the value. Would I return? Possibly. The roasted half chicken sounded fantastic and the Shofenhoffer - though low in alcohol content is a fantastic shandy style beer.

Came here on the way to Cape Cod for an off-season getaway. I was trying to go to the seasonal fry shop, Quito's, down the block but it was closed. I was hungry and Redlefsen's menu looked pretty inviting. It was lunch time and there wasn't really anyone around. Just a few tables. Quiet. Didn't matter though because the food was still decent. Tried the clam chowder, misto fritto (fried seafood platter) and the wurst platter. Everything was pretty good. The clam chowder had a bunch of bacon in it and was pretty chunky. Yum. The wurst was good but I was expected more tart bite from the sauerkraut. The mustard that it came with was awesome. The fried seafood platter was fine. Nothing to brag about, really. However, the shrimp was very good. Fried to perfection. It still maintained a elastic bite. I guess it's a good thing there weren't too many people otherwise the seafood might have gotten left in the fryer too long. Best thing was the Shofferhofer beer. It's a mix of grapefruit and hefeweizen. True nectar of the gods. I eat a fair amount of German food so I'm surprised I never had this before. It was really good!

I am native German, just came back from a visit to Germany where we experienced wonderful food. I was excited to visit Redlefsen's and pre ordered 2 Haxen for us. When we arrived it took forever to get a drink. Waitress was super nice though. Food came and I was very disappointed. A true Haxen is soft on the inside and has a very crisp skin that is cut cross wise while still cooking to a crisp. This Haxen had a sauce on top of it and while tender it had zero resemblance to an original Haxen. I had a few last year in Bavaria as well and they are always crispy this is what makes them so tasty. The prices are outrages as well ..very expensive. Our dinners were served wrong, my husband ordered French fries and instead it came with mashed potatoes . We asked for the missing French fries and also the missing mustard which took forever to arrive at the table. For 2 Haxen , Spatzle 1 beer and one non alcoholic beer we paid almost 80 dollars. And we waited 22 minutes for the bill to arrive. Never again that's for sure.

My husband and I bike in Bristol and always wanted to try this place. So we drove down today. We arrived and was seated by an excellent waitress. Highly recommend cozy table by the fireplace in the pub part of the restaurant. It happened to be restaurant week and we tried the Caesar salad, brat special, that came with Apple strudel or German chocolate cake. Delicious! We met the owners and they were very welcoming. Did not try any beer because it was a little too early for us to indulge, but we will next time. Great selection. Thank you for a wonderful lunch.

I like a lot of things about Redleffsens, good beer selection, great authentic German food, from spaetzle to all types of wurst to delicious schnitzel. But it is a bit pricy and my family has been coming here and the menu is exactly the same as a handful of years ago. I guess German food never changes... Right?!? But it is all very good food and although side options are limited and sometimes don't match what is advertised on the menu, they too are all very delicious.

My wife and I have been here twice.. The first time we were early for a wedding in Bristol and just stopped in for a drink and appetizer. The bar is huge. They have a great selection of beers on tap. We ordered the Jonah Crab Cakes and they were simply scrumptuous. Perusing the menu gave me a craving for some German food, something I haven't had in years. All in all a great first impression. It was several weeks, while we were on vacation that we were able to return. We went on a Friday afternoon and sat at the bar. I ordered a Warsteiner brew and the wife ordered sparkling wine. We ordered the calamari appetizer. My wife's opinion of the calamari was "This is the best, most tender calamari I have ever had." and she knows her calamari. Usually I don't eat calamari if it isn't cooked with peppers but t came with two sauces, a red pepper relish which was excellent and a yogurt/dill sauce that my wife preferred. I happily ate mt share. For entrees my wife ordered the Fettuccine a la Bolognese that has perfectly prepared and offered plenty of nice chunks of pork and beef. This was a major plus of the restaurant which is that they offer more than just German cuisine. I ordered the traditional Weinersnitzel (Veal, you can substitute pork if preferred) which was served with spaetzel (a potato based pasta like knocci with a creamy sauce), grilled squash and marinated red cabbage. Although my wife claimed not to be partial to German food I had to sacrifice a great deal of my dinner to her once she had a taste. The Weinersnitzel was perfectly cooked with a yummy bread crumb coating, super thin piece of veal. It was served with lemon, capers and anchovies on the side. I had never had spaetzel before and was highly satisfied. The grilled squash was OK (basically I don't like squash much but the wife loved it) and the red cabbage was extremely tasy. Next time I will likely order the Jaeger sauce but first time I wanted to experience the naked Weinersnitzel. The service was excellent, the owner Jeff spent quite sometime talking to us after we had finished our meal and didn't seem to mind answering all of our questions. I really appreciate a restaurant owner who knows what he wants to be and is happy making customers have a memorable experience. I will likely make a point of returning during their Oktoberfest celebration where they have Bavarian dancers, an accordion player and an expanded German menu. The hardest part of this dining experience is deciding what to order because the beer selection is so extensive and all the food looks and sounds so good. We highly recommend this restaurant and although it is quite a trip for us we will definitely return. Maybe the sauerbraten next time......

Had dinner here last night, a quiet Sunday night. It took nearly 20 minutes to get the draft beers we ordered (no water offered while we waited). The food was okay except the salad on my plate of fish and chips was drenched with dressing. I wanted lemon for my fish but no one ever came near us to ask during the meal. Disappointing.

We visited Redlefsens recently and had a very poor experience with the service. We were a party of 8 with a reservation. We arrived on time and ordered appetizers and entrees. The appetizers came, but then the food never arrived! An hour passed and we were still waiting. Finally, I asked the watiress where the food was, and she said she'd check. Almost immediately, the manager appeared. He had many excuses, and complaints about the chef, but it seemed clear our order had been forgotten. He offered us drinks, whihc we declined. He promised to deliver our food in five minutes. Fifteen minutes passed, and I again had to ask about the food. He promised me the food was coming. It finally came after another 5-10 minutes. All in all, we waited about 90 minutes from the time we ordered to the time the food arrived. The manager appeared while we were eating. He apologized again, made more complaints about the cook, and said he would not charge us for the four meals our kids had ordered (an offer he should have made when the mistake was first discovered). These kids were aged 10-14, and had ordered regular entrees and even appetizers. Since entrees are about $20+ pp at Redlufsons, this should have meant a sizeable discount. However, when the bill arrived we found that he had simply deducted $15 per child. I think that if the order was forgotten, he should have just admitted that instead of making excuses about the cook. And he should have offered us a discount without waiting to see if free drinks would be good enough. And he should've given us the true discount he promised us, not a cheapened version. So that was disappointing, and it kind of ruined our evening's plans. However, the food was good, particularly the appetizers.

We visited for lunch on a Sunday (6/22/14), having made a reservation requesting an outside table we were seated quickly at a table on the sidewalk patio. There were several other parties outside but only a couple of people inside, so fairly quiet. The service was excellent with all staff smiling and readily available. The menu offers something for everyone, with seafood appetizers and entrees, as well as several German specials. We started with beer, of course! A Warsteiner and a Dunkel, both on tap, each special and refreshing. Appetizer: Fried Calamari - fresh, light oil making this dish very easy to eat. Entrees: "Red's Wurst" dish - combines both Bauernwurst & Bratwurst - was outstanding. Having previously eaten in Germany several times I deem the wurst here at Redlefsen's to be truly authentic. The Schnitzel Sandwich was very good as well. Our daughter enjoyed Pasta a la Bolognese. The sauce was vodka-style and filled with plenty of pork and beef.

I've only visited the bar a handful of times and never had anything off the menu. Redlefsen's is one of the best joints in Bristol to get a drink or two and kick it. Between the excellent beer selection, top notch bartenders and just a really laid back atmosphere, nothing beats coming here for a couple of cold ones or a few cocktails, no matter the time of the day. Plus, I'd have to say bar wise, they probably have one of the most ornate and nice looking bars to cozy up to and have a few drinks. The menu looks fantastic though, I really need to make it a point to eat here next time I come in for a brew!

I was with a friend for lunch who, when I asked what he recommended, stated that everything was good. So, I ordered the crab cake sandwich. Let me say, and I hardly say this, it was gross. There were other people at the table, so I politely ate it. When asked about it, I mentioned it wasn't very good. And my friend said, "yes, their crab cakes are terrible." Ugh! Apparently he didn't want to say anything at first in front of the others. Since this is the only meal I've had here, I can't speak for anything else. But, if you don't know how to make crab cakes, then don't have them on the menu. They were tasteless and greasy, and the grease was sopped into the bread. There was nothing else in the sandwich; no lettuce, no sauce, just a greasy crab cake and a soaked bun. I agree with others that the place seems to try to do too much. Their decor suggests Hofbrauhaus, yet they only have one or two German dishes on their menu. The rest is a blend of Italian and want-to-be-Rhode Island fare (hence the crab cakes). If people like their German dishes, I suggest they stick to that and put a few more selections on their menu. There are far too many Italian restaurants around and other Rhode Island seafood places that do it better. ....Or, perhaps I'm giving bad advice a la Seinfeld to Babu. "You're a very, very bad man!" Anyone? Anyone?

What a charming restaurant with great food and a delightful atmosphere. Jeff, the owner couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. We had a party for almost 60 people and everyone raved about the great, delicious, gourmet food and the lovely twinkle lights. The German beers and the bar atmosphere are authentic. Even for such a large party, the food was hot and had a perfect presentation. My husband and I had eaten here twice before our party and had great German meals. The German chocolate cake is not to be missed. I recommend Redlefsens with 100% satisfaction and we can't wait to go back.

Always a good time at Redlefsen's. The food was excellent, and they have a very good selection of quality beers. Schnitzel, Sauerbraten and a stuffed cod served over pasta were all excellent! Went to Redlefsen's for the first time on a Sunday evening. Slow service to begin with, but very friendly. Ordered calamari to start, which was tasty, but a little greasy. Had fettuccine with mushrooms and asparagus. Vegetables were overcooked, and the light sauce very watery. The apple strudel was nice. Would entertain the idea of going back, but not for a while. Food was very average, and I really disliked the decor. A mish mash of styles, and paintings that look like they were purchased from Job Lot. It's in serious need of a makeover. The 90's are calling and they want their faux finish walls back.

I've been to Redlefsen's twice now and will definitely be going back. I got to try both lunch and dinner and was very impressed by both! I studied in Germany in college and this place brought me back! Beers - both times I had the Schöfferhoffer weizen because I was obsessed with it in Germany. Amazing grapefruit beer (yes, a bit fruity but I'm into that). I couldn't believe the number of German beers they had available! Warsteiner, Hofbräuhaus, König Ludwig, etc. Food - for lunch I had their grilled cheese which was awesome because it wasn't typical. It had goat cheese and fig jam in it. A little sweeter but ugh delicious. For dinner I had the sole picatta which was so flavorful and the potato cakes and greens were really tasty too! My husband had the sauerbraten which is a traditional German dish and he loved that too. The ambiance is really cool and if you sit outside there is such a nice view of the water but inside it's nice and cozy too. The servers and people were so friendly we just had an amazing experience!

This restaurant is very solid in what it does - German Fare! I went for their Oktoberfest dinner which was FUN and had an array of typical and lesser known German dishes. I really enjoyed myself amidst the festive, jovial, and warm atmosphere; and am glad I made a point to get to experience that eve. I know they also have other themed nights which I'd love to check out. I've also been on a non-celebratory night and the food has been tasty, and the ambiance inviting. Reliable and repeatable :).

This restaurant was recommended by friends and we were not disappointed. The hostess and server were both friendly and welcoming. We had a reservation and were seated on time. The place was busy and had a nice atmosphere. My wife and I both had the Weiner schnitzel and thought it was very good. There was a nice selection of wine by the glass and draft beers. The wait for our food was fine. The menu has foods at various price points so if cost is a factor one can control it. It did seem a little pricey however that is probably more my being behind the times than the restaurant's issue!

This would have been a 4 star rating but was with Lyle ( see other review) when we visited this place. Its a shame, because my food was fantastic (Filet mignon cooked black and blue to perfection) and the server and experience was great, until the end of the night. Funny, even still to me is how when we asked at the beginning of the night.... we were told we could use both deals I had purchased, because if we had been told otherwise, we would have sat at the bar, as we often do. Oh well, C'est la Vie ! Great food was had by me, however.... I simply can not justify a higher rating.

Food is OK. Service is great! Some of the dishes are quite good and some are just so-so. Great location, but I have always felt the the old location on Main St (way back when) served better food. Now some dishes seem fried just for the sake of frying and not b/c they are authentic to a German recipe that calls for frying.

I got married in Bristol over the weekend, and had my rehearsal dinner at Redlefsen's. Having my rehearsal dinner at Redlefsen's was one of the best decisions of my wedding (and my wedding was pretty darn amazing if I must say so myself). It truly was one of the most wonderful dinners that I have had in a very long time (how many people can say that about a 28 person dinner!). Everything was amazing from the service, the setting, and the ambience, to the food. We chose to forgo sitting in the private room in the back, but rather we sat in the dining room with the view of the water. All of our guests raved about the food. Example: the calamari was the best they have ever had (they truly were pan fried, fresh, soft, little bites of heaven), amazing chowder, the white bean vegetable soup was smoky and delicious (true!), rib eye was perfectly cooked and tender (true again), the service was wonderful (true) and so much more. (As an aside I must add that the chocolate mousse and lemon sorbet was also pretty heavenly). The staff was fun and accommodating. All of our guests left raving about Redlefsen's as a whole. We didn't get rushed out the door when we were done eating and had paid the bill (in case you are wondering, the bill was reasonable. My FI actually said "wow, that's great!" when he saw it, and was serious. Based on the service and quality of food, one would imagine the meal to be much more costly and I'm sure my guests did). We truly could not have been any happier! We cannot wait to come back, and certainly plan to in the next few weeks. Their wiener schnitzel is definitely next on our list of things to try! A few other things worth noting: 1. We had an infant and a 5 year old and I forgot to to tell them, and they quickly got the 5 year old a more appropriate meal (I didn't even inquire, they just did it). 2. They are very flexible with the way you do the bar-we did wine service to the table and soft drinks, and the rest was cash bar. Servers didn't make it awkward or uncomfortable. 3. They have a rewards program and send you a gift certificate for your birthday and for every certain number of dollars you spend (we signed up) 4. Jeff the owner is laid back and kind and will not stress you out. He also has great communication with the servers and they knew everything we had discussed. Also, the owner's father is awesome. 5. It's a family owned restaurant (which happen to be my favorite kind of restaurant) so they genuinely care and want you to enjoy yourself. Some of the staff are family members (bartender is a grandson, I think?) so they have genuine interest in your enjoyment at their place, which seems to only increase their attention to detail. And finally (in case you couldn't figure this out from my review) if you are getting married in Bristol, you should have your rehearsal dinner here. Or if you're in Bristol in general, you should eat here. Even if you're not in Bristol, drive here and eat here. That is all.

This is a truly good looking restaurant. Across from Independence Park in Bristol - it looks nice on the outside, even better on the inside. Great looking bar w/ a good selection of German beers (along w/ some Belgian and Eastern European options.) Notice no mention of the food - isn't really worth it. Average. I'd say 2 1/2 stars - but Yelp doesn't give me the power of the 1/2 star. Their lunch menu does surpass the dinner options - I wish they'd offer those selections all day (better value AND better tasting.) Do stop by when they're having Oktoberfest or "german night" - the singing and dancing is great (and seeing the older "performers" in their lederhosen - slamming back Jagermeister shots is a blast.) Just be prepared to sing incoherently (unless you speak German - then I suppose you'd make sense - at least as much sense as the average German drinking song makes on a day to day basis.)

I don't know how it's taken me so long to finally make it to Redlefsen's. I used to work down the street from them and I've been to most of the restaurants in Bristol over the years. Somehow Redlefsen's was never among them! So last night that all changed. My in-laws offered to take my husband and me to a Weisenstephan beer tasting there for our anniversary. I'm not much into beer, so I just played the role of supportive wife during the tasting portion, but it was a really cool setup. They had all sorts of German food offerings (pretzels with mustard, potato pancakes, sausages, sauerkraut, breads, etc) to go along with the tasting, which included five different Weisenstephan beers. We're vegetarian, so we didn't tackle the meat dishes, but I can say that the pretzel and the potato pancakes were wicked good. After the tasting was finished, we went on over to the dining section of the restaurant and grabbed a table. My mother-in-law and I both ordered the Asparagus Pfannkuchen, which was a little crepe-type thing filled with asparagus and leeks and topped with a creamy parmesan sauce. It was good, but really quite small considering the price. It was literally about five bites of food. My husband ordered the pasta of the day, which was a mushroom ravioli in a creamy sauce topped with peas. That was really good, but again on the small size. My father-in-law opted for the pasta puttanesca, which he could barely eat because it was so spicy! Puttanescas don't tend to be spicy, but this one had lots of serrano chiles in it, and it appeared pretty intense. We split an apple strudel for dessert, and that was light and delicious. The atmosphere is really cool and New Englandy - there's a big fireplace, lots of white Christmas lights strung from the ceiling, and a very nautical feel to the place. So good food, good beer, good atmosphere. My only complaint really is with the portion size/price ratio, but I'll overlook that and return to Redlefsen's anyways.

Not sure how these other diners had such awesome experiences but from start to finish, this place missed the mark. Our family of 4 arrived for an early Sunday dinner, and the service was severely lacking. The prices were way high for the food they served us. The calamari appetizer was good. That was it. My husband had a half chicken dinner that was nearly $20 for what could have easily been a grocery store rotisserie chicken. I had a chicken wrap that had cold fatty bacon, and a mayo slime on the outside of most of the wrap. Our kids ordered mac & cheese which was clearly the stuff from the microwave, and the person prepping it did not even stir it so there were powdered cheese chunks throughout. And a $5 bowl of microwave easy mac didnt even include a drink. Other tables were offered bread, we were not. We left feeling like we wasted our hard earned money on a restaurant that does not appreciate that people have a choice in spending their dining dollar... We will not return.

We always love going there. Very friendly staff and upbeat. They have premium beer on tap and in bottle, you can't go wrong at the bar. Food was very good and tasteful. The managers are always willing to help out if you got questions. I would recommend this place to everyone.

"They have an identity crisis," was the quote of the evening as we sat down for dinner at Redlefsen's. Don't get me wrong, it's a great spot. Somehow having German dishes on the same menu as Traditional Seafood plates and Italian dishes does make it a bit confusing as to what Redlefsen's is good at. We decided to try a little bit of everything: -Da Beers: You have to try the awesome beers they have on tap - Warsteiner, Dunkel and Leffe' Blonde to name a few that we enjoyed -Grilled Wurst Platter (Bauerwurst, Bratwurst, w/ Sauerkraut & Bavarian Mustards) - Admittedly, I'm not a wurst guy or a mustard guy, but this was great. Mustard was excellent; Sauerkraut (yes, somehow Sauerkraut) was great, and the Brats were solid. -Native Sole Picatta (with lemon, capers, sage, served with water cress & potato cakes) - really good and the potato cakes were incredible -Linguine Bolognese - classic dish that they have a unique take on. Perfectly cooked pasta, but the sauce didn't wow me. Definitely a solid "good." Overall, I'd recommend Redlefsen's. It's slightly on the pricey side for the area, but worth trying. Lauren W, our server, was excellent and made sure to course our plates appropriately. Overall, a great restaurant worth trying. I would have given it a 3.5 if I could, but my 3-star rating is a direct result of Redlefsen's not being a place I'm dying to get back to, but glad I tried.

I agree that Redelefsen's has a bit of an identity crisis, but I'm OK with that because they have the cutest little place. I love the hanging lights, makes me want to do it in my own house. Also, they're supposed to be a German restaurant, but my boss talked to the guy last summer and he said that "nobody likes to eat German food in the summer", so now it's "European themed". Anyhoo, great little place to come, especially in the winter when it's not busy. They have a great little lunch menu, which has... wait for it... WAIT FOR IT.... Grilled cheese w/ goal cheese and fig jam. Yeah, sounds like heaven on bread, right? They also have a steak sandwich which is pretty OK. I don't like mushrooms, and I think the majority of the "sauce" comes with the mushrooms, so if you get it without, it's pretty dry. It does come with bleu cheese in it though which makes it mighty tasty. My only real complaint on that is that the bread is great, but too big for the sandwich. Made my mouth hurt. Lunches come with fries AND a salad which is pretty sweet. The salad dressing (a balsamic I'm guessing) is very good and so are the fries. For lunch, prices are decent ($8-10 or so), dinner gets a bit more expensive. I remember getting dinner here a long time ago, but all I remember is that I didn't think it was worth the money. Take it as you will. For lunch though, definitely. Also if you're into beer, you can sample a bunch of them for $20.

This restaurant was recommended by friends and we were not disappointed. The hostess and server were both fireindly and welcoming. We had a reservation and were seated on time. The place was busy and had a nice atmosphere. My wife and I both had the Weiner schnitzel and thought it was very good. There was a nice selection of wine by the glass and draft beers. The wait for our food was fine. The menu has foods at various price points so if cost is a factor one can control it. It did seem a little pricey however that is probably more my being behind the times than the reataurant's issue!

I've been here a few times and never walked away impressed. This past Saturday was no exception. The place is busy enough, but the food is just average, and on the bland side, and expensive for the amount of food you are actually served. The actual service was achingly slow,and it took forever to actually locate our server when it was time for the check. And it's nice to get butter when you get bread btw.... I'm told the German food is very good, so maybe that's the draw. I had steak, my friend had chicken, and neither of us were blown away by the meals, the service, or the overall experience. Still, they do draw quite a crowd, so they are doing something right. Bottom line i guess : German food, this is the place. American dishes? Try elsewhere.

We've been going to Redlefsen's since 1995. This is one of our favorite RI restaurants. The food is spectacular, the ambiance is inviting, and Walter and Jeff go out of their way to make their guests feel special. Try the Littleneck Clams and Chorizo appetizer and Wiener Schnitzel entree. You won't be disappointed.

The location is not directly on the water, but within walking distance of both that and a few of nice little shops. This restaurant is a gem!

I had the absolute best experience ever here. My wife and I booked Redlefsens for our rehearsal dinner in July. We booked it nearly a year before knowing that so many places in the Newport area book up very quickly. I had the pleasure of working very closely with Jeff to make this event absolutely amazing. From the choosing of the food, to the choosing of what beer we wanted to feature everything was so easy and incredible! The decor is amazing and the staff is top notch. The food was very very good and we could not have been happier with what Jeff recommended to have for food. My mother is from Germany so choosing here was easy. We wanted to make it as authentic as we could so Jeff hired us an accordion player, gave us boots of beer and had several sing alongs. All in all this made our wedding weekend the most memorable time of my life. Thank you to Jeff and his entire staff for making this so amazing. I highly recommend this to ANYONE looking for a party, rehearsal dinner, or anything else.

After living in Bristol for 2 years and driving past this place countless time I decided to give it a try. I tried the grilled cheese and my friend got the chick wrap. The wine and beer selection was nice and the outdoor seating was fantastic! The food was all very good HOWEVER the service was veryyy much lacking. We were promptly seated outside and asked what we wanted to drink. We said water to start off, the waitress left and while we looked at the menu. When she returned a few mins later there was no water to be found. We ordered, our drinks a few mins later were brought over. When our food was brought over I asked for ketchup for my fries, she retuned with a small thing of ketchup and neglected to ask my friend who also had fries if she wanted. We then didn't see her again till our meal was completely gone. Please keep in mind there might have been 5 other tables of people seated in the whole place. I've waitressed before and I know how hard it can be but I found myself unsympathetic due to the lack of diners at the place. Over all I would consider going back but it wouldn't be my first choice, I would rather go up the road to Aidens where the food is good and the service is great.

This place was a family dinner gone wrong. We showed up a half hour early for our reservation and assumed that we would have to wait by the bar, but we were surprisingly able to be seated right away on a Friday night - and no wonder! This place is terrible. It began with the service. Simple drinks took 10 minutes to arrive at our table, at which time our table asked for a round of waters and some bread. We were told the bread was in the oven but would be right out. Fifteen minutes later, still no bread and still no water. We inquired about them with our server, and were given the same excuse that the bread was in the oven. Meanwhile, every surrounding table received a bread basket while we sat there bread-less. After ANOTHER rather angry inquiry we finally received the bread and water, and the bread that had been delayed because it was "in the oven" was cold. Then our dinners arrived - and I'm sorry that they did. The schnitzel was coated with heavy, soggy breading, while the accompanying "wild" mushroom sauce tasted as though it were made from a processed soup mix. The wurst plate's sausages were edible, but then again it's pretty difficult to screw up a sausage. The sides on the plates were miserable. The sauerkraut that accompanied the wurst was dry and had no flavor; I was longing for the sauerkraut from a jar sitting in my fridge at home that I bought at the grocery store. Not good when I was hoping for delicious, authentic German kraut. The spatzle was absolute mush (pasta-orderers beware!) and entirely inedible. The beets were swimming in juice which contaminated the rest of the plate. The red cabbage on some of the other plates was probably the best part of the meal. My family and I will never return here. If you are searching for authentic German food I would steer clear of Redlefsen's. We should have probably seen it coming given that they can't decide whether to have a German or Italian menu. Good places don't do both. If you're looking to get some beers and an appetizer Redlefsen's is probably fine, but for a nice meal dine elsewhere.

My stars are based solely on their fantastic import draft beer selection, hands down the best in town. And served in the appropriate glassware, which may not seem like a big deal, but it's a little detail that makes a big difference. My only complaint, M-Thurs their early closing time means we've been turned away when trying to get a drink after 8:30 pm, which stinks.

Jonah Crab cakes with wasabi mayo for a light and flavorfull entree,the Traditional Wiener Schnitzel or the Grille Wurst Platter with mustards are my favorite from the German culinaire...all with a good bottle of wine.... For desert? Warm apple strudel of course is my favorite.....and espresso to top all off... Not up for dinner? Just meeting friends before going out dancing? Try the seats next to the fireplace, some drinks and appetizers during our cold days...or for a summer happy hour drink try the tables outside overlooking Mt Hope Bay. Great way to start and infuse the spirit with the necessary warmth to last for the rest of the night....

I called last week on a Tuesday to reserve a table for 9. My Mother's birthday is coming up and she's been wanting to come here for years. When we lived in Bristol we always said we'd come back when Redlefsen's was still located in the Harriet Bradford. Time moved on and so did we. We seldom came back to Bristol. This restaurant was too tony for my Father's tastes. I read all the reviews and almost regretted making a reservation. Still it is my Mother's birthday and to try a place that she normally wouldn't be able to go to with my Father would fulfill a long standing wish she had. So we went. Mom and I came an hour earlier to Bristol and walked Hope Street past the Post Office down to The Pick 'N Pay. We've enjoyed the lights here almost every Christmas usually trying to arrive when Bristol gathers for the lighting. The huge blue snowflake hangs near the Episcopal church and lights decorate each side of the road down to what used to be the florist shop and is now a convenience store. We arrived at Redlefsen's at 7 pm. I brought a cake without telling the staff because I had called around 2:30 pm and no one picked up. 2 of the guests were already seated at the table near the kitchen. The waitress asked if she could take the cake into the kitchen almost immediately which was very helpful. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, dim like a tavern. The walls were decorated with a small Germanic mural and some assorted decorations like a cuckoo clock over the fireplace. The ceilings are high and behind us was a beautiful stained glass window that is open to the heavens. The wall that holds the fireplace divides the lounge and bar from the dining area. Our party took some time arriving and the waitress was patient and attentive. She took drink orders as we arrived from 7 until 7:30 pm. I had brought a Restaurant.com gift certificate and gave it to the waitress at that time. As we waited for the rest of our party we decided to order two delicious appetizers: The fried calamari (with a wonderful hot pepper relish and creamy dill dip,) and the Asparagus Pfannkuchen (a thick crepe with asparagus and a creamy sauce and I believe onion strips). It arrived once our last guests joined us. The service was slow but our party was talkative and a bit boisterous. The restaurant had only a few tables full other than ours so it felt like we were the only ones there. These are the dishes that were ordered (to the best of my knowledge,) Fettucine a la Bolognese, (B said it was delicious,) Pasta with Asparagus and Mushrooms, (P ate all of it but didn't talk much about it,) Chicken BLT no bacon, no mayonnaise, (S only ate half of it but is a light diner anyway,) New York Sirloin, (the steak was tender and flavorful and C adored the mashed potatoes,) Fig and Pomegranate glazed Duck Breast, (Mom savored them and we agreed to share a bit of our dishes because she originally was going to order my dish but the duck was a special and sounded to good to not order, it didn't disappoint,) Jumbo Sea Scallops, (looked wonderful and J ate them all,) Grilled Wurst Platter, (I LOVE sausages and these were reminiscent of the spectacular sausages in Germany, the dish had a side of spaetzle and sauerkraut with a creamy sauce that toned down the tanginess of the sauerkraut, and carrots, zucchini, onions and green beans in a glaze,) and a Hamburger (I am guessing, K usually is not very daring when it comes to restaurants and orders the most American meal on any menu). I was pleasantly surprised to find that the entree dishes were not small as I worried from other reviews that they would be. This is not Marchetti's Restaurant where you should expect to eat half a plate and bring home about the same as you ate. This is not an Italian restaurant even though they have pasta dishes. If you are coming here and expecting to get tons of food you will be disappointed. I wasn't expecting tons of food, I was expecting a froufrou boutique type place with miniscule portions of over priced artfully arranged plates. It was not that either. This restaurant was wonderful, a real treat. The staff was patient, the atmosphere was warm and inviting and the night was everything I could have hoped for. At the end the waitress handed my Mother 2 envelopes and instructed her not to open them but if we came back that waitress would and a savings between $5 to $50 would be revealed. Everyone in our party enjoyed themselves. I am hoping that someone will be able to accompany my Mother here soon. My advice to anyone coming here: come for the beautiful ambiance, expect delicious food that comes in a regular size and enjoy a night that is special here. And walk before or after your dining experience. Bristol is a very beautiful New England town with tons of history and gorgeous views. Redlefsen's is almost at the very end of the East Bay Bike Path and across from Independence Park. If you can't find romance here you are blind or not interested in it.

I'm going to admit right off the bat, I had a coupon. Bought a $50 LivingSocial coupon for Redlefsen's for $25 - - - - We went on Memorial Day figured it wouldn't be too busy. Outside dining area was busy, however, inside was shared by us and 4 other people - - - very quiet. We chose to sit in the bar area at a window cause it was such a beautiful day. The only reason we decided against sitting outside was because of the noise. Bristol was busy that day . . .lots of kids, commotion, etc . . . . Lunch was on the menu. Great selections and we noticed an extensive wine list, also. There were so many delicious items to choose from that we really had a hard time deciding. So, we ordered the Jonah Crab Cakes for appetizer . . . they were fried light with scallion and tiny red pepper bits and the drizzle appeared to have some cocktail sauce (with hot sauce mixed in?) absolutely handsdown amazing! We also got soup -Clam Chowder, just thick enough with a little something unusual in there (I thought a touch of cheese?) but, we couldn't quite figure out what it was. Very creamy, YUM YUM. I had the Roasted Red Pepper soup that arrived with a generous dollop of sour cream. Very, very good. I even threw some Roasted Red Pepper Soup into some of the Chowder and that was great tasting also. For lunch I had the Ultimate Grilled Cheese - - goat cheese and fig - - toasted, too. As wonderful a taste sensation as this was I really felt like I was eating dessert. A bit too sweet for me . . . I couldn't help wondering if throwing a slice or two of Prosciutto in there would have balanced out the sweetness. But, I'd order it again to share with someone with some black coffee . . . He had the Fritto Misto - fried shrimp, calamari and cod - -- this was fried food done wonderfully. Both meals were accompanied by a light salad of mixed greens with oil/vinegar - - perfectly light. My sandwich came with french fries that were perfectly thin and just crunchy enough. He ate all my fries! It did take a bit to get out food but since it was a holiday and we had nowhere to be we sat back and enjoyed. Not sure how dinner is but lunch was grand, though we probably wouldn't go back without another coupon. Lunch here could be expensive.

If I could give this place no stars, I would. I have never been treated so badly in my life. We purchased two Yelp vouchers which say they are applicable per person. We informed the wait staff when we arrived. After having appetizers, dinner and dessert, we went to pay and were informed by the "owner" Walter that we were trying to scam the restaurant by using two vouchers (separate checks) and that we were not to ever return. I felt like I had been dropped into an episode of Punked. My companion is a local business owner and I am retired from the computer industry. Obviously this couldn't be more outrageous or insulting. Please do not patronize this place. Go to DeWolf Tavern in Bristol instead. There you will get great food and excellent service with warm caring owners.

My husband and I went for lunch during the week. We were seated quickly and service was fine. My husband ordered the special ravioli of the day and I ordered a chicken and red pepper sandwich. No water or bread was put on the table. Our food came and I was shocked. My husband had a fairly large bowl/plate which literally had 4 ravioli's on it with a cream sauce. I'm sure our surprize was noted by the waitress who asked if we would like some bread. We ended up sharing my sandwich which came with a side salad and no dressing. The price for my sandwich was reasonable but the ravioli was $10 which I thought was expensive for what you got. We aren't very picky but we won't be back.

I gave them ONE star only because I could not choose anything lower. They do NOT even deserve a single star! I have celiac sprue and called the restaurant to inquire about their menu and possible gluten free options. The manager/owner said that he had to ask his chef about a certain item and asked me to hold on the phone. He then proceeded to tell the chef that "today is a day for weirdos..." before he asked about gluten. I DO NOT APPRECIATE AN ESTABLISHMENT THAT IS NOT UNDERSTANDING OF OR SYMPATHETIC TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES. They clearly have no respect or regard for customers if they can be so callous and rude. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT IF YOU OR YOUR LOVED ONE HAS ANY FOOD ALLERGIES - AVOID THIS PLACE BECAUSE THEY WILL LIKELY INSULT YOU OR DERIDE YOU OR WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE.

Redlefsen's is an absolute "go to" establishment in Bristol. For both dinner and lunch they serve really good food for a reasonable price. The dishes tend to be simple and straightforward, nothing all that fancy. But, that being said, I don't want it to seem like they don't have fantastic offerings. All of their dishes are great. Their crab cakes steal the show. The fact that you can order big steins of beer is just icing on the cake.

This place has a great atmosphere and wonderful German food! The asparagus crepe is a favorite, and the Redlefsens house salad with their homemade dressing is a must. A few dishes that our family always gets are the weinersnitzel, and the scallops. It is a small place, not much of a hang out, but great for a dinner date. On another note if you make reservations and go on an Octoberfest night, it does turn more into a hang out and you may want to stay a little longer. It's like being in a small restuarant in Epcot's Germany...OK maybe not as good as disney, but still, it's different and fun and worth it!

This is a great place to eat with a great ambience. The inside is very cosy and nicely decorated and I imagine it would be a great place to enjoy some German beer on a cold evening with friends. In warm weather it is nice to be able to sit outside there and enjoy a delicious meal with a beautiful view of the harbor across the street. The menu offers a wide selection with German and European-inspired entrees as well as typical local fare. The portions are huge and the price is reasonable for what you are getting. On my last visit I got the native sole picatta and it was a mountain of delicious fish. The clam chowder is good, too. And of course the German specialties are absolutely worth a drive, the schnitzel is huge. A lovely place to visit if you are looking for a unique eatery with Old World charm.

Nice ambiance and an interesting menu make this a worthwhile trek. The traditional Wiener Schnitzel is a must, as is the sole picatta. The yogurt dill sauce was a good addition to the otherwise average calamari. Prices are on the high side, but not egregiously so. Our service was VERY slow on the Saturday night we visited, but I suspect that our waiter was new... We will definitely go back.

Excellent German beer choices on tap. Lunch was absolutely perfect! I had the greatest grilled cheese sandwich ever. It consisted of goat cheese with a fig spread on sourdough bread. Wow!!!!!! My wife had one of the best crab-cake sandwiches served a freshly baked roll. Interesting interior decor and a choice of outdoor searing. Very friendly staff. Looking forward to my next visit. Very good value for the dollar.
