I love when I see people come to the USA and "make it" on their own ingenuity. The owners at Kam Shing did just that. There is a reason they have been in business for 20+ years..the food is fresh, made to order in an open kitchen, where you can watch their magic, and reasonably priced. This is not an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant and seating is limited. The interior hasn't change since they've been in business. It's just two hard-working (husband and wife) proprietor's pumping out the best Chinese food in the East Bay.

Tried the sweet & sour pork here today. After about 5 minutes, they brought out a plate with bland fried rice, a "fried" spring roll, and a pile of battered pork bits. This was accompanied by a soup bowl of sauce. While eating, I listened as they took take-out orders...all "ready in five minutes." Since my "meal" (I ate only half--as it had a bad after taste) did not show any signs of having been recently fried (and because I saw a bucket of similar fried bits in the kitchen), I would guess that it was a microwave cooking process. You just can't fry and drain fresh food that quickly. So, after that experience, I won't be back.

At first I was going to leave this restaurant a 4 star review, but then changed my mind. let me explain: I've ordered from Kam Shing probably 3 times (currently waiting for my 4th order to be delivered) since moving to Bristol in September. Twice I ordered delivery, and once opted to just pick up and save a little on delivery charges. The food has always delivered VERY fast. I mean one time I ordered and literally within 15 minutes the food was at my door. My jaw literally dropped when I heard the knock on my door. The food was hot and tasty enough for me to order again and again. Oh, and of course there's the price. I spend $15 on food + delivery, and that's enough for me and my husband, as well as leftovers. The complaints I have that bring my rating down to 3 stars instead of 4 are mainly due to the service I receive when I call and place my oder. The workers don't sound too friendly, and often hang up on me before I've confirmed they have my order correctly. In fact, they just hung up the phone before I could ask if they can bring change for a $100, so hopefully there will be no issues there. Lastly, the food is good, but it is not great. I once lived in Quincy, MA, which is essentially a Chinatown in a suburb of Boston. The Chinese there is so good you don't even feel guilty for eating it often. Let's just say the food at Kam Shing is good enough to order again, but not good enough to not regret afterwards. It will satisfy the craving.

We had takeout from Kam Shing tonight. When we picked up the food, the people at the counter were friendly even though they were very busy answering phone orders and distributing takeout orders. The restaurant has two areas for people to dine but both were empty. I surmise that they are more eat there customers during their lunch buffet...that is if they really have one (their menu says they do but since I don't live in RI, I don't know for sure). Our fried dumplings were well made but had thick skins of which I personally am not a big fan and the filling could have used some scallions, ginger and garlic. The General Gau's chicken was mildly spiced which is okay for customers who do not specify, so it is not their fault I did not ask for extra spicy. Our Szechuan chicken was a bit heavy on the baby corns and broccoli and like the General's chicken, a bit too mild for my taste. Now all of that said, this review is based on my personal taste and if Kam Shing's customers' are happy the way they make their food, then they are doing what the should do. Their kitchen looks clean and as stated earlier, they are quite friendly.

This is my family's go to for take out. Very reliable. The staff is very friendly and the food is great. Sometimes there are inconsistencies with the food depending on who is in the kitchen that day. We can never tell how spicy something is going to be until we get home. The prices are very fair and even dining in is a nice experience.

We have been looking for good Chinese food since moving to East Bay and tried Kam Shing for the first time this evening and it will be our place. The fried dumplings were very good as was the General Tsao chicken. The chicken fried rice had a very generous amount of chicken. The only disappointment was amount of onion in the fried rice and next time will order without the onions. The person who took my order was very helpful and friendly.

Reliable Chinese American restaurant we usually order takeout at. The staff is super nice and provide great customer service. Our kids love the food because it is consistent. Its not a fancy meal, but for Chinese takeout, its the best in the Bristol/Warren/Barrington area.

This is the only place in the area that I will eat form for Chinese food. I've called take out so many times they know who I am by my voice on the phone.

The old menu we had at the office said "no MSG, no sugar, no salt, no oil" on it. I was looking forward to a more healthy dish of chinese. Not so much. When I got the new menu after delivery, they'd taken it off the menu, so my guess is that the place is perfectly fine with MSG, salt, sugar and oil these days. The prices were also old, so my $11 meal ended up being $18. Crap. Anyway, about the food. The crab rangoons had a lot of crab in them, but they were dry. Don't chinese places know by now that it's about the CREAM CHEESE, not the crab? Chicken teriyaki was just weird. It was pink like a sparerib and was cold even though the rest of the food in the same container was warm. Chicken Lo Mein (an extra $1.75 to substitute instead of rice) was GROSS. All dark meat chicken and soggy as hell. Barely any noodles either. Boneless Spareribs were actually really good, and the chicken fingers were as good as you'd expect. Jackie's Galaxy is still the place to get Chinese food around here (or anywhere). They're hardly even more expensive than these cheap gross chinese shacks. Just drive a mile or two further and go to Jackies.

I have ordered from this place regularly for about 2 years now. However, after tonight's experience I will not be ordering from here again. I called for delivery, placed my usual order, gave my address and phone number and was told 45 min- 1 hour. After an hour an a half, I decided to call and check on the status of my delivery. The woman who answered the phone( same one I placed my order with) immediately told me the orders were very slow in going out, and everybody was calling looking for their food. Ok, fine. I understand that stuff like that can happen. She asked what my address was, and what I ordered. At this point, she told me I never called, she didn't have my order, and she would remember because she was the only one answering the phones. I explained that I simply hit redial on my phone, and as a matter of fact I had spoken to her. The reply? "You still want? Will be long time". At that point I simply hung up the phone and ordered a pizza. Time to find a new Chinese takeout place.

Absolutely amazing Chinese food can be found here. The food is generally cheap, of high quality, and also of high quantity. The staff are average and the restaurant itself provides an overall average atmosphere I would say, but I generally view chinese food as a take-out food and not so much for eating in. Definately worth your while if you are in the east bay area.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
