So, because we live so close to Delancey Street, it seems like it's inevitable that if we have friends stay with us, they run out to Delancey Street for bagels in the AM. When the in-laws were last here a few weeks back, we seriously sat and laughed at how hard the bagels were - speculating as to whether they were just a few days old, or more like 1-2 weeks. There is no way they had been made within 24 hours. The food here is so bad it makes me want to stand outside and protest. And just when I start hoping that maybe others agree and they'll go out of business, I see a "now hiring" sign on the door and a flurry of new 4 and 5 star reviews. I just don't get it...

walked into delancy street bagels with a big smile and high hopes from going there as a child. little did i know that the quality of the food has gone down. i ordered 2 bacon egg and cheeses, and a hot chocolate. i walked over to the dirty coffee machine only to find the hot chocolate was extremely watery. i asked somebody to fix it at least 3 times, but i kept getting the same cold, bitter, yoohoo tasting hot chocolate. then my bagel sandwiches came out. one was extremely undercooked, one was extremely overcoooked. really???? honestly, really???? i almosted vomited after eating the undercooked one, i do not reccomend delancy street!

Ah, the good old delancey! I have been going here for as long as I can remember, and their bagels are the best in the area. I would especially recommend the pizza bagel! It is simply amazing! This place for outscored brueggers. The service is fast and always friendly, and they have a great selection. Also, delancey is pretty clean (I mean this one guy's job, it seems, is to sort through the trash. other than that, delancey is perfect!)

If you have happened by some of my posts inthe past you know I am a sort of bagel connoisseur :) I love bagels This store is in the corner of a little shopping center I ordered a everything wheat bagel (one of my favs) with low fat veggie cream cheese. It was very average. Not that anything is wrong with average per se but it is no Hand Rolled Bagels (New Hyde Park NY) Plus it was a tad pricy . I think $4 for bagel +tea. I am not averse to going here again though.

Bagels are pricier than other local shops, but taste both fresh and homemade. I've only been going here since April 2014, but have found the staff to be friendly and courteous.

Mediocre at best. Waited over 10 minutes at the coffee/smoothie bar where the employee behind the counter failed to give me any attention, only to continue talking with someone who already had ordered. Not to mention the food is bland and coffee diluted. Gave it a shot and that's the last time.

I've been in the area for almost four years now and I have only recently discovered the wonders of Delancey's. I am a diehard fan of New York bagels-- they really do taste better-- and I can honestly say that Delancey's has the best bagels I have ever tasted outside of New York. Now, word on the street is that Delancey's gets their bagels frozen raw and shipped from NY (they are then baked on premises). If this is the case, then it explains why the bagels are so tasty! This place has a little of everything-- enough coffee and breakfast drinks that anything I want is there, a really adorable specialty coffee drink/smoothie bar/candy shop combo, and, of course, the bagel and baked goods section. The bagels, as I mentioned before, taste amazingly, authentically, New York, and I love it. There are at least ten cream cheese varieties from which to choose. The bagel place offers breakfast bagels (of course and thank God), which are the usual egg, cheese, and meat. Only one caveat when ordering-- it is all turkey product, so be prepared for turkey ham, turkey bacon, and turkey sausage. I recommend going for the sausage because you can hardly tell the difference between that and pork sausage (whereas I feel that turkey bacon is instantly recognizable). Just remember: you cannot order and use a credit card UNLESS your bill is over ten dollars. If you are eating by yourself, be sure to bring cash because you aren't going to make it over the minimum. There is ample seating and even if it's crowded, I've been able to at least find a seat somewhere in there. Even when it's crowded, the wait is no longer than five minutes and the quality of the bagels makes it a good buy!

Great breakfast option. What I like most about this cafe, is the plethora options. You can order one of their fresh bagels, with a variety of spreads, or a made to order breakfast sandwich! Love the whole wheat multigrain and low fat veggie cream cheese! In addition to the yummy bagel sandwiches, you can also order any one of their delectable looking pastries- and not all are the normal cupcakes and muffins you are used to. They have healthy options as well! And to compliment whatever food choice you make, try a fresh juice or hot cup of full flavored coffee!

SAVE YOUR MONEY - outrageous and unfair prices. I won't be going back soon. Three bagel sandwiches and 1 drink came to $35!!!! One sandwich alone - whitefish salad - came to more than $16, largely because my request for lettuce/tomato/onion added almost $5!!! (See my picture below - not even that good a sandwich). Worse, my cashier didn't offer me a receipt or even tell me what the total was. I didn't think twice until I got my email from LevelUp while I was sitting in the restaurant eating saying I had just been charged $34.71 by Delancey. When I went to the counter they explained that a each extra "vegetable" was a $1.59 .. a slice of tomato, a slice of onion, a bit of lettuce... each one $1.59! When I asked the cashier if she thought that was reasonable she was embarrassed. Perhaps I went too far when I pointed out that these up-charges weren't posted anywhere and that she hadn't mentioned my extras would cost me $5 as she started to get ashamed and defensive. When I asked how I could contact the management to give them feedback, the girls behind the counter looked at each other as though that was a problem, then assured me it wasn't necessary, that they would pass along my concern - righhht. It took me pressing to get the manager's name - "Jan". I plan to go back and speak with him so that he knows that this occurs to me as trying to take advantage of the customer... I can't imagine that is what he is striving for as a business owner.

First time ever going here, and I must say, absolutely my favorite Bagels! Being from WV, I decided to buy a dozen to take home with me. This morning I had an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese. The restaurant was packed, but I was served very quickly. Everyone was friendly, and even offered me freezer bags should I want them. I will definitely be making this a regular stop anytime I come to Philly.

Perennial favorite. I love the hummus special on an everything whole wheat bagel. It's so simple but so good .. Must be the smoked mozzarella that does it for me. Try the veggie breakfast wrap too! Yes it's slightly expensive for 8.75ish but honestly... Shut up and try it.

I don't know what to say Delancey Street Bagels. I want to like you, I really do. The bagels taste great, there's a huge menu with all different kinds of delicious sounding things. The baked goods and desserts section is extremely tempting. It has a great feel to it. I can go on and on. But every time I go, my order gets messed up one way or another. The first couple of times I chalked it up to them being busy but enough is enough. Today I asked for an egg bagel, toasted, with lox and cream cheese. What do I get? An egg bagel, toasted, with egg and cooked salmon in the middle and with cream cheese spread on both sides. I guess it's close to what I ordered but to me it is not the most appetizing thing. The only thing that saved this disaster was the mighty muffin that I ordered along with it. I'm pretty sure it's the best muffin made in the entire world.

  • Grace S.

Their "bagels" are actually rolls, and not authentic bagels. They are nice and fresh, though. The pastries and sandwiches are outrageously overpriced. There are many better places nearby.

Everyone who works here is 16. Like even during the middle of the day on a Wednesday in March. This is probably my biggest complaint about Delancey St. I think it's great that they are obviously hiring the local teen demographic, but when you have a restaurant that's run by a bunch of bored main line kids, things don't always run as smoothly or professionally as possible. The bagels here are AWESOME. Probably my favorite in the Philadelphia area. But the service leaves some things to be desired. Most of the time here my order is delivered to me messed up or with something wrong. Twice I've gotten completely charred bagels when I asked for toasted, and once given the wrong bagel on the wrong sandwich. The staff is also usually extremely apathetic bordering on unfriendly, probably a side effect of teenage angst. It's a shame because I do actually think the food here is pretty good and will probably keep coming back. I just wish they would teach these kids a little customer service and accuracy. Try the everything bagels. They are LOADED with toppings and are one of the best everything bagels I've ever had.

I absolutely love this place. First of all, I'm thrilled that they have a wheat everything bagel that actually tastes good. Second, I really like the stand up coolers that have a variety of lox. FYI, if you just buy a pack of the brooklyn lox plus a bagel you get a lot more for your money than buying their lox and bagel combo. I love that they have such a wide array of pastries as well. This is my go to after working a really long shift. FYI: $10 minimum to pay with credit card

Food is good but service here sucks. Bagels are pretty good for a) being out in the suburbs and b) not being NYC. Delacey St offers eat in and take out options, as well as catering & gift baskets The stars here are really the bagel sandwiches. I recommend: - Pizza Bagel - Steak and egg bagel - Boss's special (roast beef and cheddar) - Sun-dried turkey special The service is pretty terrible though --- unorganized, slow, not very knowledgeable, and don't really clean the eating area. On the plus side, they do offer gluten-free options.

Bagels are good but it's inconsistent. My go to is a breakfast bagel with turkey ham. Sometimes it hot and delicious and sometimes it so so. Go with no expectations. Coffee is good. Service is by a bunch of high school kids which can be good or a disaster. Hard to get a table and on the weekends it's not a place to go to relax and catch up on news. Can be loud. Don't wear anything you don't want to smell like food for the rest of the day.

Recently, I received an email from LevelUp stating that I had $4 to spend at Delancey Street Bagels. So, on Sunday me and my companion decided to use the $4 towards our breakfast. After I ordered, I told the cashier that I would like to pay using LevelUp. I was met with a look of confusion. The girl did not know how to use it. After several minutes of trying to figure it out, with no success, she then asked several of her coworkers who were also just as clueless and mainly just shrugged when asked. Finally one girl stepped up and said that it wasn't working! REALLY?!!! So, you advertise that you accept LevelUp, and even have a sign on your door stating that, but then you don't train your staff how to use it?? Let alone have it working?!!! Not sure which is worse, the staff or the piss poor management who can't train their staff properly!! With the high prices, you expect better service for your money!!!!! Too bad the management can't be bothered to comment on this!

I can't understand some of the negative reviews about this place, granted, I went for lunch around 11:30am so maybe it gets a lot more hectic around the breakfast hours. Place is really clean and nice, the teenagers behind the counter may take a little long to put orders together... but that wasn't the case for me. I ordered a Turkey Club on a toasted everything bagel with Turkey Bacon. The bagel was delicious, the turkey meat was so delicious and had the perfect amount of moisture (I hate Turkey that's too dry). This is definitely the weirdest turkey bacon I've ever had, it was so delicious but it was little crispy bits rather than long strips. It was cooked like regular bacon scraps, but had that turkey bacon taste; it really made the sandwich taste awesome. That's it for this place, only had this one sandwich and nothing bad to say about it, or the service I received.

This is a great little spot in Wynnewood. Being originally from North Jersey, I grew up with a certain expectation of what a bagel should be. Perhaps it was the proximity to NYC or maybe it was the high concentration of jews around the area, but my standards are high. Delancey does a nice job of coming very close. First off, when you walk it, it smells like a bagel place. The smell of baked dough, spices and salt. It's got that "bagel place smell" I always follow my nose on things like this and I'm rarely let down. Secondly, it's got good coffee. They have a few varieties brewed up and sitting in carafes waiting for you to enjoy. So far, the house blend has been my favorite. Thirdly, the space is laid out really well. They have your standard tables and a bar you can sit at. Hardwood floors and comfy chairs and a large common booth seat on the wall. The only downside is the price. I think it's pricey for what they are offering you. I have only eaten here for breakfast but in looking over the lunch menu, some of the bagel sandwiches are pretty steep. Anyhoo, if you're out this way and want a good bagel, Delancey won't disappoint.

The order was not correct and too forever to be prepared, owing to the fact that there are teenagers working the counters and the kitchen. There is a man that busses the tables that is a bit odd. He cleans the trays and then while the diners are eating fishes through the dirty trash to retrieve bottles and such. I will never go back there again. It used to be "tops" in my book, but lately has taken a noticeable dive.

Great spot for Bfast bust gets overwhelmingly crowded. Be willing to wait for an order. They have a large coffee collection for you to pour yourself. Overall one of the better places in this location.

So our sinister GPS said we were heading for a Starbucks and instead brought us here. All we wanted was coffee but instead we got average coffee and watery chai. What was pretty cool about this place was that you could buy day old pastries and bagels for half off. Overall, I wished I had gone to Starbucks...

Good bagels, even better croissants and one of the best muffins I have ever eaten! Any sandwich can also be made on a croissant. The whole wheat everything bagel is delicious. Their coffee is nothing to write home about. Try the hot chocolate made fresh at the coffee bar ( not the one in the hot chocolate dispenser).

Finally a smoothie place around city ave, fresh fruit and frozen yogurt along with bangin bagles makes this place a perfect after work out stop. They also have a bunch of sandwiches and a cappuccino bar, definitely worth stopping by

Clearly one of the better bagel joints in the area that I know of as in freshness. I do know of another bagel place in Bryn Mawr that I have yet to peruse, but Delancey has always been making fresh bagels , always replenishing their stock . This place is always mobbed with customers seeing it is in a great little shopping area. Plenty of walking traffic with customers going in and out of businesses looking to refuel. They offer all types of sandwiches from breakfast to lunch, with different combinations from bagels to baguette bread. They have a great dessert display from some of the traditional Jewish pastries to the well known. The usual suspects in muffins, filled muffins, cookies, croissants and cakes. The also have a great Challah bread that they sell in here. They also have a nice little coffee area for lattes' and different specialty blends or concoctions you might say. Their coffee is always fresh, they have a great breakfast blend along with their own. At times you might see a seasonal coffee in a Harvest which I do enjoy. Delancey also has wide variety of humus they sell with great flavors on the side. Not only that but they have lox with other assortments of goodies to purchase. Plenty of seating inside or outside when the weather is just right. They are always jammed up , but do keep things clean to the best of their ability. One thing is the employees though, it feels like you are back in high school. A lot of teenagers just come in and I guess fill the void, not really hustling to make it a little more easier. I'm not saying the whole staff is this way, but they do have a few in there that don't want to be there. There is always a line, a lot of mistakes do happen with them asking twice what you ordered , when they clearly wrote it down. The 3 stars are for the fresh bagels at all times, great coffee, and their displays of items to dessert. Everything else is a 1 or 2 at best.

Being from New York City, home of the best bagels on Earth, Delancey Street Bagels in Philly (actually a suburb of Philly) can bake up a decent bagel. The prices are through the roof for a bagel with lox spread. The coffee isn't bad, but isn't great either. Attentive staff, moderately quick service, but to get a fourth star, their prices must be adjusted, as it stands, for bagels and coffee, they're just too expensive.

Since moving to the burbs, this has been my breakfast place...the fact that I ate here both yesterday and today clearly says I have a bagel addiction. Delancey knows their bagels and I could eat them plain all day long, but they also have an extensive list of cream cheeses and breakfast sandwiches. The place is always packed, their prices are a bit on the high side and while their baked goods offerings look irresistible, they always disappoint....I am looking at you chocolate croissant! If this was a review just about bagels I give them five stars...but everything else considered, I will give them a solid 3 stars...

I really do like the asiago bagels here but I absolutely abhore the service. The counter is staffed mainly by teeny boppers who give off an air of affected ennui and can't even take orders correctly over the phone. I called in the morning to preorder a dozen of the asiago (this was at 8 am, mind you) and was put on hold for 15 min while the girl chatted with her counterparts (I could hear them in the background) about non-bagelry related issues. She then proceeded to get back to me with a "I'm not sure."" Um, honey, you should really find out what your employer's policies are since you DO work there. I assured her that I have preordered bagels here numerous times. She then proceeded to take my order. Okay, phase I over. I told her that I would pick them up at 1 pm. I showed up at 1:30 (to give them some extra lead time) to find the register unattended and a group of teenages gathered in a huddle chatting. I literally stood there for 10 min before one of them noticed and asked if I needed anything. I should note that it took her 10 min to locate my order and another 10 to ring it up. I did get my bagels in the end but next time, I'll just volunteer another poor soul to pick them up and deal with the atrocious service. The bagels are pricier than South St. or NY Bagels ($1 each, $12 for a baker's dozen), but it is the only non-chain place in the area to carry asiago bagels (I know that they aren't real bagels but we still love them all the same) that aren't simply steamed pieces of dough topped with a few shreds of cheese. The texture is excellent: perfectly soft on the inside with a chewy, flavorful exterior shell. The sandwiches are good, but they are pretty expensive compared to the other cafes in the area; the prices are almost as steep as Spread's but the Kosher breakfast bagel is very good ($6 for Nova, cream cheese, sauteed onions, and egg on an everything bagel) and hard to resist. It's also one of the relatively well-priced options; most lunch sandwiches are $9. There is so much potential but they do need to work on their customer service quality and maybe adjust the prices so that they are slightly more reasonable (I understand that it's about quality and taste but paying $10+ for a coffee and breakfast sandwich is kinda outrageous).

Was pleasantly surprised by this place. Stopped in for lunch and got one of their vegetarian bagel sandwiches. Quite tasty. My husband got some sort of sandwich, and he enjoyed it as well. Service was a bit disorganized, but I'll still come back.

I love this place and have been coming here for 20 years. It has definitely changed in terms of the service going from sophisticated to trendy with brain dead girls who seem to not even know what a bagel is, but I still love the bagels here.

Good bagels especially breakfast sandwich. Yummy almond croissants too. Good coffee and service. Lines are long but quick. Can pay with Level Up on phone - fantastic!

Crowded, long waits, disorganized, but still SO worth it. The blueberry crumb muffins are so good I've dreamt about them.. Seriously.

I think that their bagels are above average for the Philadelphia area but their prices are astronomical. I also really like their coffee but, once again, it's pricey. Pros (from my perspective): Bagels are generally good; everything bagel is heavily topped and the seeds etc don't all fall off as soon as they slice it (I'm looking at you, Bruegger's); they offer a whole wheat everything bagel; they'll put Moshe's soy "chicken" salad on a sandwich for you; they have chive cream cheese (which they also sell in tubs); their coffee is good and the coffee station is stocked with every sort of creamer known to man; it's also nice that it's in a fairly large space with places to sit. Cons: The prices. Most recent bill was $25 for two bagel sandwiches and two bottled drinks. Ouch. The amount of food you get for that price is also below average: the sandwiches don't come with chips on the side or even with lettuce and tomato unless you ask for it. I also don't love dealing with the staff since they're typically very young teenagers. You know, 15-year-olds who think they're too cool for everything and want to make sure you know it. Given their prices, you'd think they could raise their hourly rate and upgrade to college kids. I live in Manayunk and I currently venture out to Wynnewood for Delancey Street at least twice a month so, clearly, I like their bagels. That being said, having recently discovered the existence of New York Bagel on Haverford Ave, I'm seriously hoping to finally shake loose of my costly Delancey Street habit. I love bagels but I never thought I'd have to budget for them! In conclusion: above average bagels (for the area) but ridiculously expensive.

This is a neat and trendy little bagel shop where you can get all of your breakfast needs. Eggs on bagels seem to be the most popular but may I recommend you get a side of home-fries because they're delicious! Not too soft, not burnt, not dry, but jazzy and yummy! My complaint is that it's a little too expensive for what it's worth. You can easily spend 6-8 bucks on just a simple breakfast so be aware. (Oh, and the bagels aren't bad either, and that's coming from a New Yorker who eats bagels weekly.)

Great bagels! Very popular In the Wynnewood area. It gets very crowded on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I love the steak egg and cheese bagel. I just wish it didn't take 15 minutes to get my order. Not the place to go to if you're in a rush. But they do have great food And other baked goods!

delancey stays at a strong 4 stars, after all, i am there at least twice a week - they make a mean bagel. tho high prices & skimpiness often abound, i have finally found a way to get my beloved soy chicken salad samidge at a cheaper price!! what was once a ridic $7.35 is now a preposterous $8.29 - yet i still keep forking over the monies. not any more! instead, i have discovered that i can purchase a toasted bagel for 99¢ and a container of moshe's vegetarian chicken salad from the refrigerator section for $5.29, totaling $2 less than what they are charging for the same made-to-order sammie, just sans veggies & side pickle. oh, and the container yields way more chix salad than they ever put on the bagel, unless you're like me and you complain and make them give you more. it is also the EXACT same salad they are using in the kitchen - not a housemade variety. trust me, i eat it every week; i can tell. so there you have it. consider this my gift to you all on how to save $2 on the main line. you're welcome.

I like coming here on the weekends for my breakfast sandwich and iced coffee, which are both very good - but every time I have to pay the bill I cringe. Like many other reviewers, I often spend $25 here for two bagels/sandwiches and two bottled drinks. I like the quality of the food, but honestly I often decide to go other places now because it is out of hand. I have had two odd experiences here; the first was when I went in one time and was waiting for my order for 10 minutes. I finally went up and asked one of the girls working there, and she said that the order had never been put in. She asked me who helped me, and I pointed to the girl, but the girl didn't remember ever taking my order, despite the fact that I had a receipt. I was in a hurry, so I didn't have time to wait for my order to be made again. The second experience came two weeks ago when I went in on a Saturday afternoon at 5:30 and asked for iced coffee. Both myself and the gentlemen in front of me were told they no longer had iced coffee, despite the fact that they were open until 6 p.m. I like the spot, but the service is lacking considering the amount you pay.

I happen to love Delancey St, I've been coming here for probably 20 years. Yes, the staff is young and sometimes not the most knowledgeable or helpful, but I've never had extraordinarily bad service. Then again, I don't require much. I don't think I've ever had a bad bagel here. It's easy to bring my two kids, order some bagels and coffee for myself and sit for a while. It is pricey, that's for sure. You can probably get a cheaper bagel elsewhere but I enjoy the atmosphere here and the location which is close to other stores I frequent. As long as Delancey St in Wynnewood exists I'll probably be a customer. Call me weird, but I like being able to purchase a bagel, a chocolate covered pretzel, coffee and froyo all in the same location.

UPDATED APRIL 2014 The good: Wide selection of teas and coffees, large menu, prepared foods (pricey) case you can buy things to take home, quality of food is very good. Baked goods aren't made in house but are relatively good quality. Why only 3 stars: sandwiches can be inconsistenly skimpy, some things overpriced (this is the Main Line after all) but the main reason.... 9 out of 10 times (no exaggeration) I've eaten there the "kids" putting the sandwiches together get my order wrong. I know for a fact the order is being taken down correctly, it's the back who's getting it wrong. I stopped going here for about a year, came back and still my order was wrong. For this reason alone Delancey street isn't a regular stop, not to mention that on the weekends the service can be slow which really slows down everything when you need to get an order remade.

The food at Delancey Street is pretty good, but the service is indescribably awful. Every time I get food from Delancey Street, it either takes an obscene amount of time for me to get the order, or it is wrong, or both. For example, today I ordered a turkey bacon BLT sandwich. The order was provided to me relatively quickly (but, then again, it wasn't crowded), but when I got to my office to eat my lunch I discovered that they forgot the mayo. A few months ago, I ordered two bagels, toasted, with cream cheese. It was taking them so long to bring my order that I told them to just give me the sliced bagels and I would toast them at home. When I got home and opened the bag, I discovered that they put cream cheese on the bagels but did not toast them. I would love to know how they thought I was going to toast a bagel that already had cream cheese on it. Although the food is pretty good and it's convenient for me, today was the last straw. Unless there is a big improvement in service, I am done with this place, as it is just not worth the hassle.

Bagels are great if you're here first thing in the morning. Rock hard by 2 in the afternoon. Also the place is falling apart. Hasn't been painted in years. Half of the seats are torn or worn through. The staff is friendly, but the guys in the kitchen are incompetent. They are in such a rut, every bagel is toasted even if you specifically say not to.

I'll give the frozen yogurt 5 stars! The sandwhiches are solid, I like lox on a bagel or the tuna melt, but I think it is too pricey for what it is. having said that when I am in town I find myself going every week for the yogurt and some coffee and to sit and read a paper. Def. worth checking out and the bagels are good!

    (3)
  • Katie P.

Well the bagels and coffee are good but $11 for a bagel with cream cheese and lox is highway robbery!!! That price doesn't include a tomato slice or coffee. So I will stick to buying my bagels at the chain that starts with an "M" and the lox, tomato and cream cheese from the store and make my own. If I really have a hankering for a bagel with lox, cream cheese & tomato then I will go to the Satellite cafe in West Philly . They charge less than $5 for the complete bagel sandwich WITH coffee.

this is actually a review on the city ave location...wow...incompetence runs wild in this place. Confusion a knocking and customers with an unpleasant look standing all over. I waited 20 minutes for two sandwiches and then had some crazy customer come and say it was his food and proceeded to leave without even making sure. After realizing that he had taken the wrong food he walked the food back. TO THAT PERSON: maybe you should have taken the time to check after I ask you. You might not have looked like such ass. This is a bagel place right? hmmmm...I would have never known since more then 1/2 the bagels on the shelves were gone by 10am. The food is decent even after some grubby ass opens your food, but the moody service, no apparent line/order organization and lack of basic bagel inventory on a Sunday morning is enough for me to make a trip to Manhattan bagel. oh damn!!!! no he didn't!!!!

The bagels here are delicious!!!!!!!! Always soft and fresh, and the service is fine. I love their varieties of herbal teas and pastries as well. I 'm there at least once a week. I have ordered their turkey special, an egg and cheese onion bagel, apricot pastries and cheese danishes, and all have been superb. It is a little crowded on the weekend, but in comparison to the brunch spots I USUALLY go to in Center City on the weekend, the wait here is NOTHING! LOL A good spot for a quick bagel on the run.

Worst bagels. Worst service. There were so many things wrong with this place that I won't even go into. However, my biggest issue was that I got a bagel that was stale. I couldn't bite through it and it was pretty much like baked bread gone wrong. I would have preferred frozen bagels from the grocery store. It was so bad I asked for another bagel, which is something I never do. The cashier tried looking for another bagel while another employee (whom I'm guessing was the manager) thought it necessary to tell me that "they're all like that" and was apparently annoyed by my dissatisfaction. Hm.. Smart. Let the customer know that ALL of your bagels suck, not just the one I received. Defeated, I went back to my seat. Then, I realized how absurd that was, as someone who works in customer service, and went back to ask for another bagel. The same cashier was trying to be helpful while the same manager, again, thought it necessary to make a passive-aggressive remark in my general direction. "Just give her whatever the hell she wants." As a result, I got another stale bagel. Pissed off, I took the other damn stale bagel and decided to leave it at my seat, uneaten. I've never directly experienced such terrible service. If I lived in the area I would have reported that one manager... or else asked what in her 20 or so years of life could have caused such a miserable existence to have her feel the need to share her unfortunate state of being with innocent bystanders such as myself.

I think that this particular Delancey Street Bagels has an employee turnover rate of 300%. No one seems to know what they are doing behind the counter and are usually seen gossiping or milling around behind the counter in groups of three or four. I guess despite that, the bagels are nice and big and pretty damn good. Nothing really compared to bagels in NYC though, but it'll have to do for Wynnewood. I had their Turkey on Everything before, and it wasn't bad at all. Fresh lettuce, onions and tomatoes, bagel toasted and cut in half. It definitely filled me up before class. I kinda wish that well, there weren't that many chatty Main Line mommy types there (although, yes, I may be a mom one day, and yes, I am chatty). It seemed like a cool study spot at first, but I've since opted for Borders (except for the weekends when Borders is pretty insane). The peeps behind the counters are of no help at all. Why can't they hire some quality people?

Here are four main reasons to skip Delancey Street: 1 The Coffee: I'm a big fan of good coffee and this place just doesn't have it. 2. Space: It gets so overcrowded on the weekends that it is just ridiculous. 3. Organization: They fail in this category too. I refer to it as "unorganized chaos". 4. Twins: It seems like everyone behind the counter looks alike...seriously... and are under the age of 18. The only kudos I give is for their breakfast sandwiches which are pretty good but definitely not worth waiting for.

I just got home from Delancey Street, full and happy after indulging in a toasted whole-wheat bagel with hummus, lettuce, and tomato--so, so good. Today it was nice and quiet--we were the only group there--so it was highly enjoyable with fast service and no rambunctious kids running around, as there frequently are. Unfortunately, I don't like everything I've had there--the soy chicken salad is horrible, and sometimes the pastries are dry--but the things I like are very satisfying and yummy. The bagels, which are their staple, are great, the hummus fabulous, and several of the cookies and cakes to-die-for. Also, their coffee is really good, not bitter like many cafés' (ahem, Starbucks). Enjoy!

wow i dont know how delancey street has such a bad rating. i moved away from philadelphia but now every time i'm back visiting i have to hit up delancey street at least twice, if not more times. (and on a side note, i used to work here - it's not often people continue eating somewhere 10 years after they worked there...). sure, i'll admit, they have expanded their menu a lot and there is definitely a lot of stuff on there i wouldnt try... but as for the other stuff: the best thing is the pizza bagel, hands down. i also love the turkey special, breakfast bagel, soy chix salad, veggie sandwich, veggie melt... i could go on! they have delicious low fat veggie cream cheese (i like it better than the full fat one). in the bakery case: the croissants are good, all the muffins and the mini muffins. love pockets too! they also serve delicious, relatively good-for-you columbo frozen yogurt. YUM! i was just in town last week, now i can't wait to go again. the perfect place for your lunch break, i often wish i had it out in california!!!!!!!!

I don't know why a lot of people don't like Delancey street Bagels, I drop by here almost everytime I pick up my wife at the Mainline and we get their Croissants which is so good. The Cheese croissants last for a short time they sell like hotcakes but the plain croissants is very good, the Hot Coco is perfect and the Bagels are pretty good. The staff are nice and do sometimes remember you and what you usually order but all in all this is a bagel place I love. The only problem was the washroom and it is crowded but like they say it must be good bagels thats why it is crowded. Check it out

I just had two bagels: an everything and rye. the rye was great, the everything was very mediocre. but the coffee selections are plenty and the whipped cream cheese is a winner so I'm a fan.

I have been going here for years. I live 3 minutes away and enjoy the bagels. The problem is that Jan, the owner, is a real jerk! Customer service is not in his vocabulary. This past Wednesday at 3:30 pm I placed an order for 75 sliced bagels to be picked up at 6:45 the following morning. The women that took my order checked in the back to be certain the order could be completed and ready for a quick pick up. I even pre-paid to expedite the pick up on Thursday AM as I had a time issue. I was told it would be ready. When I came to pick up, the staff reacted as if they did not even know the order existed. I understand mistakes happen, but I expected more. It took 10 minutes to get the order ready and I was 10 minutes late. I stopped by today to speak with Jan. I expected a simple "I'm sorry, I should have done better". What I got were excuses about young, inefficient, slow staff that does not know what is going on. I was shocked at his lack of accepting responsibility and understanding. He said I should have placed the order earlier and it was an unrealistic expectation to expect my order to be ready. I told him the women checked and cleared the order. He did not care. What a miserable guy!!!

When we moved here Delancey was THE place for breakfast. But over time and many meals dining on real NYC bagels, we came to realize that this place is awfully average at producing their signature item. For the best bagels nearby, try Metropolitan Bakery bagels. You can get them in Narberth at the The Cheese Shop.

I wish it was just about a delicious bagel, because the bagels here are top-notch. So much so that I was willing to regularly pay $3.38 for a toasted bagel with cream cheese, which in my opinion is grossly expensive for a strip-mall bagel shop in the suburbs staffed by teenagers. However, when I went in for my regular order this morning I did a double-take when the total was $4.19. Just for a toasted bagel and cream cheese!! I noticed a sign on the counter apologizing for the "3-8%" price increase and blaming it on the bad economy. Bad math is one thing, but the sign went on explain that the owners had been doing us customers a favor by keeping the prices down in the past, which in my opinion is just rude. Their prices were NEVER low - they've always been comically high. And this place is always PACKED in the mornings - sometimes up to a 20 minute wait for a toasted bagel. I've never seen it empty. It simply boggles my mind that a strip mall bagel shop in the suburbs staffed by teenagers that is always packed and sold overpriced food to begin with can't keep up with the overhead. The money is going somewhere, and its not to the business.... sadly, I don't think its going to the generally polite teens working the counter either. They've just lost a regular (and I've lost one of my favorite bagel places). Sad day.

Hot mess. I think that accurately describes my perception of this experience. Walking in was a pleasure! The pastry and muffin selection literally excited me, and the atmosphere gave the vibe that this was going to be a stellar find. However, it quickly went down hill. The associates were completely in over their heads to handle the modest crowd that had come by for dessert and coffee after lunch. There was no line or natural que for customers to jump into. Instead, it was like a rush of cattle trying to fight for attention. I had assumed I was 2nd in line, since I was directly behind the person currently ordering. However, after 4 other people went before me, I decided to speak up to get my dang muffin. I ordered a mini blueberry muffin, which I envisioned being the perfect compliment to my lunch from Sabrina's (a great spot btw). Literally 2 second after ordering, the attendant asked me to repeat my order (which was just a mini blueberry muffin). Thank goodness it wasn't anything more complicated. 7 minutes after walking in, I leave with my $2 muffin and an impression that the mini bite snacks found on the grocery store shelf would have been equally or more satisfying.

While the pastries and treats in the case looked very appetizing I opted to get a wrap specifically the American style which consisted of eggs, turkey sausage or bacon, potatoes and cheese. I selected egg whites, turkey sausage, potatoes and cheese. Of course it was an additional cost for the egg whites which wasn't unexpected but I felt like what I received definitely wasn't worth what I paid. It was $10+ for a simple breakfast wrap. It was about $8.50 without the additional cost for egg whites which is too expensive for what it was but I was hungry and there was no where else to grab and go. Delancey is lucky no other breakfast place to grab and go is in the area because they would definitely be given a run for their money. I doubt i'll go back but if I do it would just stick to the pastries/treats in the case. I guess that's what I get for going to a bagel place and not sticking to bagels.

As far as quick serve breakfast places go, Delancey Street Bagels is just okay. I've been a few times and the food is always good, not great by any means but always serves the purpose of filling my growling tummy. I've had bagels and even opted to try their burrito the last time I was there and they were both average, nothing stood out to me as something I would want to come back for. What stands out is the lack of knowledgeable teens working the register; they struggle to answer basic questions about the menu and in general do not understand customer service. The lines are usually long, and the teens working are definitely not trained properly on how to expedite a line (a little work would go long way). Delancey Street Bagels fits a need, and is probably as busy as it is just based on being in a convenient and family oriented location. Location is key after all and I think they won the lottery in that area. If I had a choice I would choose a different place for breakfast or grab and go like items.

Don't bother stopping here for breakfast if you don't have cash. $10 minimum to use a debit or credit card. I never understand why a business owner will choose to say no to a customer because he doesn't want to pay a three to five cents fee on a $3 dollar sale. It's 2015.

I heard this was a great bagel sandwich shop and my leads were correct. Good casual breakfast spot and decent coffee. A good spot for a meeting as well. In the plaza with Sabrina's (which is a little more pricey and not as much of a drop in spot.).

Nice baked goods but the staff is very confused. It's a case of "Too many cooks spoil the broth." The sweets we ordered were packed nicely but took forever to get. The coffee order took over 10minutes and we had to remind the team about the order a few times because they forgot. The coffee selection was confusing and the staff wasn't certain which of the fancy names stood for "dark roast." Perhaps just put "Dark Roast" on the one that's dark roast.... Many of the coffee vats were empty, forcing customers to skip coffee or order the pricier stuff. Even getting milk for the coffee seemed like an ordeal.... Sorry Delancy, but you seem to need an executive revamp. Where's Gordon Ramsey?

The bagels here are always fresh and delicious. I can't believe I have a bagel place like this within walking distance from me now, I'm so lucky! Some of my favorites include: sourdough, everything, poppyseed, onion, garlic, marble, pumpernickel and sesame seed. I love to get a bunch, grab some vegan cream cheese from TJ's, slice up some cucumbers, and toast them up at home.

Generally speaking, I have been satisfied with my experiences at Delancey. But one thing recently has caused them to lose a star: this busboy that they have. He's a middle aged man who cleans the restaurant who seems to have some sort of OCD. The other day, I was prepping my coffee while waiting for my whole wheat everything bagel with lox and lite cream cheese (a 10 out of 10), he was staring at me from behind. After I moved, he proceeded to clean the counter. I could feel his eyes on me and it really creeped me out. It's a sad thing what he suffers from, however, I do not feel comfortable eating at a place where somebody is waiting to clean the table you're at. Other than this guy, the service is a bit slow, but the food is worth it in my eyes.

I really wanted to like this point, so much so that I ordered an entire two dozen of bagels ahead of time before walking in (WHAT A MISTAKE!) When I get here at 11 in the morning, I ask for the oatmeal. The respond that they're out of it. Eventually, I settle for an egg bagel with cheddar cheese. I pick an orange juice out of the case, and start drinking it while I'm waiting for my food. The juice tasted a little funny, and then I check the date: IT'S EXPIRED BY AN ENTIRE WEEK!! How could a restaurant reasonably serve juice that was expired! The server then comes over to my table, telling me they are out of cheddar cheese. I was tempted to ask the question of what they weren't out of. I get it with provolone instead, it comes out 5 minutes later cold. Later, another person in my party had a partly cold cinnamon raisin bagel without the cinnamon raisin butter she requested. When she asked for the cinnamon butter, they threw it onto her already half eaten and cold bagel. The place only gets a second star because the management was nice enough to come some things in our order. Still, the experience was a complete letdown!!

Delancey Rocks! I've been coming here for 15 years, best in the neighborhood by far! Bagels are fresh with lots of options for sandwiches and it's always s sense of organized chaos when ordering ;) Get in early to avoid the crowds especially on the weekends!

I have been going to Delancey Street Bagels for at least 10 years. I love their breakfast sandwich, its one of the best in town. I especially love this place because they are the only place around that I know of that will "scoop" my bagel for me. My favorite! The coffee selection is also varied and delicious. Also, if youre looking for lunch, try the pizza bagel. It's SO good! I hear the staff is underpaid and overworked - but they all seem friendly and give good service, so what do I know.

Since New York Bagel increased their prices and Bruegger's was out of Everything bagels, I figured I'd give this place a shot. The bagels keep longer if you put them in a sealed bag when you get home rather than leaving them in the paper bag (that was my fault - oops). Unfortunately I think they're still the kind of bagel you need to toast for it to taste really good, but they're passable. I can't say the same for their disgrace of a beignet, which was more like a mini chocolate croissant with powdered sugar and a chocolate drizzle on top. Not even close to a real beignet. Also, their butter croissants look strangely undercooked. They lack that golden brown color that I see in places like Buy the Dozen and Le Petite Mitron. At least they're generous with the toppings on the Everything bagel. That's more than I can say for Acme and Superfresh.

Delancey Rocks! I've been coming here for 15 years, best in the neighborhood by far! Bagels are fresh with lots of options for sandwiches and it's always s sense of organized chaos when ordering ;) Get in early to avoid the crowds especially on the weekends!

Great place to sit and have a coffee. Service is very good. Baristas strike the perfect balance between being professional and friendly. Megan is especially great.

As a former employee I wouldn't recommend it here. I hated the people I worked with and its just disgusting. They hire anyone. My foot is so big it's actually slightly concerning. It's cool though because this place sucks. Foots still big.

That's more than I can say for Acme and Superfresh.

walked into delancy street bagels with a big smile and high hopes from going there as a child. little did i know that the quality of the food has gone down. i ordered 2 bacon egg and cheeses, and a hot chocolate. i walked over to the dirty coffee machine only to find the hot chocolate was extremely watery. i asked somebody to fix it at least 3 times, but i kept getting the same cold, bitter, yoohoo tasting hot chocolate. then my bagel sandwiches came out. one was extremely undercooked, one was extremely overcoooked. really???? honestly, really???? i almosted vomited after eating the undercooked one, i do not reccomend delancy street!

Their "bagels" are actually rolls, and not authentic bagels. They are nice and fresh, though. The pastries and sandwiches are outrageously overpriced. There are many better places nearby.

If I lived in the area I would have reported that one manager... or else asked what in her 20 or so years of life could have caused such a miserable existence to have her feel the need to share her unfortunate state of being with innocent bystanders such as myself.

wow i dont know how delancey street has such a bad rating. i moved away from philadelphia but now every time i'm back visiting i have to hit up delancey street at least twice, if not more times.

Enjoy!

I'll go with the unpopular view here and just say that everythings always been ok whenever I've been here - like, the absolute total definition of ok. Ok food, ok service, ok prices, ok atmosphere.

Sad day.

delancey stays at a strong 4 stars, after all, i am there at least twice a week - they make a mean bagel. tho high prices & skimpiness often abound, i have finally found a way to get my beloved soy chicken salad samidge at a cheaper price!! what was once a ridic $7.35 is now a preposterous $8.29 - yet i still keep forking over the monies. not any more! instead, i have discovered that i can purchase a toasted bagel for 99¢ and a container of moshe's vegetarian chicken salad from the refrigerator section for $5.29, totaling $2 less than what they are charging for the same made-to-order sammie, just sans veggies & side pickle. oh, and the container yields way more chix salad than they ever put on the bagel, unless you're like me and you complain and make them give you more. it is also the EXACT same salad they are using in the kitchen - not a housemade variety. trust me, i eat it every week; i can tell. so there you have it. consider this my gift to you all on how to save $2 on the main line. you're welcome.
