    Stopped here after a visit to Middle Creek. We ate in the tavern side, which is rather small and doesn't have the best arrangement for the staff and patrons to enter and exit(one small door that can easily be slammed into someone coming from the other side), but we liked the hometown atmosphere nonetheless, and my cheeseburger and fries and wife's turkey burger and chips were all exemplary. We did view the dining rooms, and thought they were very quaint and offered a very pleasing atmosphere as well. Service was prompt and pleasant, though drink refills were never offered. It's a neat old building, and we wouldn't hesitate to stop again or recommend.

    Cute and cozy. Very historical building with rich history. They have great specials through the week. Their burgers are black angus and absolutely delicious. Their house beer is also very good.

    Wanted to try this place after driving by and seeing it so we did. We sat upstairs out back...had an amazing awesome view of the parking lot and dumpster. But it was quiet. The service was fine and it was just typical pub food. It wasn't bad at all, what I would call a good place for a group of friends. Everyone there seemed friendly. And the parking was adequate.

    Food was very mediocre. Chicken breast sandwich was undercooked and the fries where not very crispy. The other dinners we got were ok, but not for the price we paid. The house beer was decent and service was good. I would not repeat based on price and quality of the food.

    Came here for a business lunch. Had the surf and turf burger which was a special, and it was amazing. Burger was cooked exactly like I ordered and the fries were tasty. Service was good and the building is old and all kinds of awesome. I've stopped in here for a pint before and the barkeep was friendly and my wife and I enjoyed the experience as well. Eat here.

    Wanted to hate this place when I walked in and saw the mismatched furniture and cobbled together accent pieces. They redeemed themselves with the prompt service, pace of course service, and quality of the food. Had the crab cakes as an app. They were good but pricey for the portion. We had the pecan encrusted salmon and the ahi tuna as entrees. Both were cooked to perfection with great sauces to compliment. Will likely be back in the future.

    The tight fitting dining room was probably the most negative thing about the evening. The food was above average and the service was mediocre. (I had to ask for water refills Twice). I tried the lobster pie...it was good but not a lot of lobster in the filling. My husband had the prime rib which was good.

    I have lived in this area for more than 3 years and have passed the Franklin House many, many times. After discovering coupons on restaurant.com for them, we dined there last night for the first time. From the outside, it's a quaint, old-looking building and having been in enough similar type buildings, I wasn't sure what to expect. Inside, it's still a quaint, old building but it's been impeccably kept and beautifully decorated. The restaurant is a series of connected rooms. The walls are lined with enlarged photographs from the structure's earlier days. Each of the large, low windows has a tall candlestick with a mercury glass candleholder on top that casts a beautiful glow. The lower portions of the wall have antiqued wainscoting and the upper portions are painted a deep color that I couldn't distinguish as black, brown, eggplant or burgundy. Either way, it's beautiful. The menu is fairly limited, but that's standard for a small, fine dining place in the area. There's a range of appetizers, salads and entrees that seem to focus on seafood. Something odd I noted... in other similar places in the area, you're permitted to choose between the fine dining menu and the pub or tavern menu which usually has sandwich items and other lower-cost, comfort food items. I like being able to choose and often end up with a fine entree, if you know what I mean. I knew they had a tavern menu because we'd ordered to-go from FH previously. Not being allowed to look at it kinda rubbed me the wrong way. It all comes out of the same kitchen, right? Anyway... We skipped appetizers and went straight to entrees which came with a house salad. The salad was a beautifully arranged, if somewhat typical garden salad: mesclun, grape tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers. It was fresh, crisp, cold and delicious. The perfect amount of dressing was served on the side in a small cup. I had a vinaigrette. BF had blue cheese. With the salads came a basket of warm, crusty rolls and a dish of balsamic vinegar and olive oil for dipping. For dinner, I had the Franklin Delmonico-- a 14-oz. blackened Delmonico steak smothered in sweet caramelized onions, sliced mushrooms and Gorgonzola, served with mashed potatoes. I ordered it medium rare and the server repeated "medium rare" back to me. It came out rare. It wasn't an issue because that's actually my preference but whenever I've ordered a rare steak out at a restaurant, it comes out pretty much raw. There's a difference! the toppings were delectable but heavy on the onions and light on the cheese. I would have liked the cheese directly on the steak so it could get a little melty and mix with the jus of the steak and then have the onions and mushrooms on top of that. Still, it was incredibly delicious. The mashed potatoes were pretty basic but good. The meal came with the vegetable of the day, sugar snap peas, which looked and tasted exactly like the steam pouches I make in the microwave at home. BF was had the Crab Stuffed Flounder which is described on the menu as having a lobster tomato champagne sauce. The stuffed fish seemed like a smallish portion to me, served on a large plate. It was served on top of rice pilaf and also with snap peas. It looked pretty dryish on the plate to me so I don't think there was any lobster tomato champagne sauce. The bite I tasted was moist and flavorful. To finish off the meal, I had an extremely yummy creme brulee. The portion was a little on the small side. BF had a chocolate lava cake that was served with a big scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. We ate out desserts and then sat and waited for awhile for our check. Our waitress never came back to the table so we had to hunt someone down to ask for the bill. When the check came, I was in for a little sticker shock. We used a $25 coupon and our total was $53. That includes an 18% tip which wasn't indicated anywhere on our bill. I asked the server if the gratuity was included because I know that's restaurant.com's policy and she said yes. I feel like she should have struck out the tip line on the credit card receipt or should have said something about it without me having to ask. So to sum up, excellent food, excellent atmosphere. Perhaps a little pricey and a little pretentious for tiny little Schaefferstown, PA. Service was okay bordering on mediocre but we'll go back.

    I want to state for the record that I have NEVER had a bad meal at the FHT. Everything is so excellently prepared and fresh. Service is amazing. Atmosphere and decor is first rate (how many chances do you have to eat in an 18th century tavern?) and prices are reasonable. Lunch menu is crazy good. Stopped in for supper tonight and awesome as usual (chicken Chesapeake is delish!) Great place to bring your date or friends or the whole family.

    This is our 'go-to' date night spot. Get the bar menu in the dining room and you will not be disappointed. Service is always good and the bathrooms are always clean. The grilled caeser is fantastic.

    If you like pub food, then you'll want to try this place. There were 6 of us when we arrived. They sat us near the bar area fairly quickly. The room was small but cozy. Our waitress made our lunch experience even better. She had a great personality. We tried the Tavern Burgers, Umm Chicken Sandwich, Philly Steak, Sweet Potato Fries, Onion Rings and the house chips. Service was quick. Everyone was satisfied with the meals and prices. The coffee was a little weak, but if you order tea, they come with a variety box for you to choose from. This restaurant is in the middle of Amish country. You'll see plenty of horse pulled carriages in the area. The only downside is the traffic they cause. Not to mention the manure all over the roadway.

    Found this place thought a coupon ad and a relative who was there before. Old decor of the 1800's with i think the food of that era on the walls and table. Not an inviting atmosphere with with little rooms and needing a good cleaning. Tried to use coupon but was told i could not use it except for the dinner menu. tried to order off the dinner menu a salad with salmon but was told no unless i ordered a appetizer also with it and then was treated with a song and dance about how much money they were losing on this coupon and that's why they have to do this--yada, yada, yada ! Embarrassed by this experience we got up and left and will "NEVER" go back again ! We go out to eat to experience need and exciting places and food not to feel like we made a mistake in offering them one of "THEIR" coupon deals ! So you got none of our money but believe me lots of of ill will for your deal !! By the way the company i bought the coupon from was more than happy to refund our coupon cost !

    This is my 3rd time here and was not disappointed, I had a doubletakedeal coupon i just asked what my restrictions were n bartender said as long as it was off the dinner menu. I started with the Ahi Tuna it was seared perfectly n the spicy tai sauce on the side paired well. The chicken cheasepeak was more of a chicken bacon cheese cause those 2 flavors masked what lil crab was on it but it was good none the less. The rice was a chicken flavor n the veggie fresh green beans with carrots, again it tasted good. Service was very good but we were only 2 of 6 people there at around 2pm. Not a huge beer selection but what they have is worth mentioning ( du claw, leinenkugels, sammy adams, in bottles Yards, Flying Fish, dechutes.)

    This is honestly one of my favorite restaurants. The pub menu has great food at a good price, and the full restaurant menu has amazing meals that are a little pricy, but definitely not overpriced.

    The Franklin House has been around for a long time...a bit of an historical site. We've been here numerous times and always enjoy the experience. The food is always satisfactory, even if it's not a gourmet experience. Decent food at a good value. Certainly we'll return and have recommended it to friends.     Like most great places to eat, it's been too long since I'd been to the Franklin House. Once for a rehearsal dinner 14 years ago, another time for a visit in the bar. However, I was anxious to try it out after it had changed hands 4 years ago, and my wife's resturaunt.com gift card provided the reason to go! We arrived on a Monday night, and were seated in the dining room, not the tavern, as we had three kids with us and I'm sure their high chairs wouldn't reach the 4-foot high tables. We were allowed to order from the tavern menu (in contrast to the previous yelper's review), which we did. The food, for tavern food, was very good. The only reason I'm not giving a 5-star rating is because I can't evaluate the food on the main menu, but it had a good selection, for what it's worth. The cheesesteak ($12.99) won out over the vodka lobster ravioli ($20.00), but I can attest that I've already settled on my selection for the next visit. The home made potato chips were outstanding! The service was good, the food was prompt, and the portions good. The decor of the dining room was fantastic. The previous yelper's review can go further than I will with the review, but much attention had been given to the prevailing "winter" theme of lights around the windows, clear plastic snowflakes, and the like. Very tastefully done. Perhaps the best part, for me, was the building itself. Not only has it been well maintained, but it smacks of a grand era. The grand staircase that rises to the additional eating areas on the second floor, the beautiful bar, the tall windows, and the fascinating pictures of the Franklin House from the 1890's all allow the diner to experience a different era and allow one to wonder "if these walls could talk..." This is a wonderful feather in Schaefferstown's cap, and it has been not only well preserved, but well executed as a dining experience.

    We came here because we had a two groupons, and the server (who was fantastic) told us we could order off of any menu and use both groupons. So we did. After $86 worth of food and drin ks, the manager, Jenn, told us we couldn't use both of them. Leaving is stuck with over $46 to pay out of pocket. After the server and we argued with this coward of a manager, she still refused to keep their word in allowing us to use our groupon. We will not go back.

    They have way too many restrictions on the use of coupons. Can't use it on specials or holidays or anytime near a holiday or on anything but an entree. There are even restrictions that aren't in the fine print, like not using it on a take out entree. Their food is also overpriced for the quality. Frozen dinner rolls and packaged rice mixes are not worth $30 a plate. Their mediocre food and unwillingness to work with us on the coupon will definitely keep us away and not draw in more business like I assume the coupon was intended for. Sounds like their coupon nazi is keeping other reviewers from coming back as well. I guess I lost $15 on a $30 coupon that I'm not going back to try to decipher what I am allowed to eat with it.

    Food was wonderful- one of the better restaurants on the Lancaster area (coming from a foodie New Yorker). Service was warm and friendly and we had the option of both the tavern and dinner menu. Hubby's turkey burger was great, my meatloaf was moist and extremely flavorful. Would definitely go back again and again.

    Been going to the Franky for years. Great pub menu and full fine dining menu that I have yet to order from. It all looks great coming out of the kitchen. Great sandwiches and fresh cut fries. They also make their own seasoned potato chips. Great atmosphere with a lot of the original wood work from the 19th century. Draft selection is a little weak but I always seem to find something. Never mind the bottles, your typical domestics. Overall we always have a good experience. Does get packed on the weekends so get in there early or call ahead. Id have to give it another star if they had some more great craft brews to choose from. At least in bottles.
