Our first visit to RD American Grill did not disappoint! Friendly, bright atmosphere and friendly staff but most importantly, really good BBQ! It will definitely NOT be our last visit!

Because my boyfriend lives very close by, we were incredibly excited for a potentially good restaurant to open in the area. Both having worked in the restaurant industry for years, we know places can just have their bad days so we tried RD's several times to give it a fair chance. Visit one was over a weekday lunch hour. We had a decent server, good food, nice atmosphere and we were very pleased. Visit two was during a weekend dinner shift. The place was pretty empty for the time of day. Our server, "Bean" seemed pretty disinterested and although the crab fries were a fantastic appetizer, the actual meal was mediocre. Our drinks went without refills and food went untouched for at least 15 minutes before we even saw her again. Finally, on our final visit, we arrived at the very empty restaurant during a Friday dinner. Sitting at a booth right beside the salad bar, we were pretty disgusted by all the flies swarming our table, although we credited it to the nice day and the fact that we were just working outside. We had a server from a previous visit & of course we ordered the crab fries. The flies only got worse the longer we sat & at one point we counted 7 at our table alone. In the midst of a check back, the server noticed the flies and apologized but proceeded to tell us about the numerous fly traps through out the kitchen, suggesting a real problem and definitely several health code violations... My boyfriend's food came out perfect, while mine was the wrong order all together. Again, being a server myself, I said it was no big deal and I would just eat it to save the trouble... Thank god I opened the sandwich to see what all was on it, because there was a dead fly INSIDE. After 15 more minutes of waiting for her to return, she took the sandwich back & did take it off the check, but seemed very disinterested in the matter. An "oh, sorry about that. I'll take it off your check. Do you want something else? ...no? You sure? Okay. Well enjoy the burger then" was the extent of the conversation. She then disappeared for the duration of the meal, dropped the check and walked away. No manager visit, no real concern. Needless to say, we will not be returning. The convenience is simply not worth it.

Ok food and good service. Got breakfast and the hash browns were a little burnt. Wasn't able to get waffles the machine was broken. I got the eastern shore omelette and it was ok. I would definitely go again if I'm in the area.

We've been meaning to try RD's for awhile and it did not disappoint. White Chicken Chili was a great way to warm up on a cold day. The sliced brisket Southern Ruben Jr. was very good with a nice char on the meat. Skip the chips and go for the hand cut fries. Pork BBQ and BLT were also favorites at the table.

Returned and tried the BBQ brisket. This time I was very pleased with the food. Had a BBQ sandwich and enjoyed it so much I got a pound of brisket to take home. My wife loved it (another native Texan). They also indicated they would start allowing BYOB in 4-6 weeks.

Always a hit! I can't get enough of this place. Great good, friendly service, and a pretty handsome owner! Get there at a decent time, anything out of the smoker is excellent. Pulled pork, ribs, you name it, I'll order it again. No, this is not a staged promotion, I just really enjoy the place.

My husband and I have driven past this little building that used to be Valley View diner for years and have talked about what a good spot it would be for a bluegrass/bbq joint. Looks like the folks at RD's had the same thing in mind, minus the bluegrass. We stopped in on a snowy day at an off time (between dinner & lunch) and we were the only customers there. The service was exceptional. I know we were the only customers but I got the feeling that it wouldn't have been much different with other people there. Our server was friendly and welcoming and very helpful when it came to pointing out house specialties and making suggestions. I had the pulled pork sandwich with an order of fries, and my husband had their specialty sandwich (had a name but I can't remember it) that was beef brisket, pulled pork, american cheese and probably some other things I'm forgetting. The food arrived quickly and was excellent! I am a fan of barbecue and I always order pulled pork the first time at a restaurant because it's my measuring stick at bbq joints -- if the pulled pork is good, the place can't be too bad. It wasn't as sublime as the authentic wood-smoked pork from a backwoods shack down south, but it was pretty good. The meat had a good pork flavor and a few burnt ends and the sauce met my standards, and our server brought an extra bottle of barbecue sauce for the table. It was also served with coleslaw, which I put on the sandwich. My husband's sandwich was very good as well -- he thoroughly enjoyed it and said the meat was perfect, although he did think that it might have benefited from a more assertive cheese. The hand cut fries are evidently a thing of which the restaurant is proud, as our server made a point of mentioning them to us. They were good, nothing wrong with them but basically adequate. Better than chips, but not the greatest fries I've ever had. I had a caramel nut tart with whipped cream for dessert, and that was very good. I would give this place five stars but we were only there once and during an off time. If it's this good when we go back I'm editing this review and bumping it up to five stars.

We have seen this place as we have headed back to Md. and now that we live here we decided to try it after a co-worker mentioned it. The meatloaf is the best I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy and my wife loved the hamburger she had with bacon and sauteed onions, even the fries were home made. They were out of ribs when we got there (no biggie) I will just have to try them next time. Return visit soon to come.

My wife and I visited. We had good meals. I had the 1/2 rack of ribs that came with cole slaw and mixed beans. A very good meal. Tasty and filling My wife had the sirloin steak. Unfortunately they put it over potatoes with gravy. She wasn't expecting that. She didn't like the gravy on her steak she was expecting a grilled steak. But they did say it would be served over potatoes with gravy in the menu. And the horseradish potatoes were a bit too spicy for her. But there was lots on the menu. And a previous commentator mentioned lots of 'flys' on their visit. I didn't see one the whole time and the hostess and the waitress were both very friendly and very helpful. Give them solid As

They have some issues with service, and should probably be more focused on hiring service industry professionals. On one occasion the girl at the hostess station, who was obviously a teenage relation to the owners, panicked and ran away when we walked in, too shy to great or speak to customers, let alone seat us. On another occasion we ordered soup and the waitress served us a dripping sloppy cup of it from the salad bar. The food is alright though, not the best barbecue you've ever had but it's in the middle of nowhere so it's the best you'll get here.

Decided to check the place out for breakfast. We only live a short distance but have never been there. It turned out to be one of the best breakfasts I've had. Will go again to check out the BBQ.
