The NEW Majolica. Hadn't been since they closed for renovations, but glad I went back. To be honest I don't see much of a difference between now and then, but like most BYO's you go for the food and not the atmosphere. Split an order of escargot flat bread which was really good. Actually, it seemed like every table ordered one or more of the flatbreads. They all sound good , but I can tell you the escargot was excellent. Seafood stew was brought in a bowl with a nice spicy chorizo broth. The dish had calamari, shrimps scallops and a piece of whitefish. The short ribs also were served in a bowl. While they were very tender, I wasn't crazy about the lemongrass cream on top. I would have preffered another topping, but outside of that meat was very good. For dessert we split the beignets with a chocolate cardamon pot du creme. It was good and not too large. Just about the right amount after dinner. Bill for 2 was only $66 including tax. They were JAMMED, so make sure you call ahead at least 2 weeks. They only take Visa and MC so leave the AMEX at home. Parking is getting harder around that area with all the places open, and when Pepperoncini opens soon its only going to get worse.

A cozy BYOB is Phoenixville with unique and flavorful food. Don't be talked into the chef's tasting menu because although good, the portions are very small and the price is very high. We were in a crowd of 7 and we all had to take part . . . our waitress basically said that we were foolish to even consider ordering from the menu snce the chef tasting was such an amazing experience. The food was good (not great), but all the courses put together would not have matched the portion in a regular entree, and it cost us $90 per person . . . . and it's a BYOB! The highlights were the snail flatbread and cucumber sorbet.

Lives up to its excellent rating! We came in on a Thursday night before 7pm and the place was mostly empty so we were skeptical. However, we were quickly impressed by the friendly service and especially the freebies the chef gave us: quail eggs with cavier and shots of cappuccino mushroom soup. I had the Prix Fix entree surprisingly priced at $30. This included a beef toungue appetizer, very tender, the grilled mackerel served over a bed of mussels which was so incredibly tasty. The dessert wasn't bad! My only slight annoyance was that there was only one waitress serving the entire restaurant which made the service slow although friendly. Not the best French food I've had but excellent for the price.

I loved majolica. The owners are nice people, the food was spot on, the ambience was satisfactory...although I don't like when restaurants play the same cd over and over. Hit the shuffle button! The chef is really talented, although clearly adheres to the "simplicity" mantra of so many philly area chefs these days. I just prefer one or two more dimensions on the plate. But what he does put on the plate is stellar. All in all, one of the best restaurants in the burbs.

My husband and I have been trying to get ourselves into Majolica for brunch all summer, but there was always something coming up, hurricanes and such! But we finally got there last week, and loved every single bite! I had the peach flatbread, rabbit hash with poached eggs with hash browns, and earl grey Ice cream, it was all delicious! My husband had the cream corn soup (he let me taste it, and had a hard time getting it back, yummieeeee) and steak and eggs, perfect steak, perfect eggs! He also had the chocolate torte with caramel ice cream, he loved it! To start us off they brought 2 oysters now I've never been a fan of raw shell fish, but these were fabulous! If all shell fish tasted like this....well the world would be a better place. The sorbet they brought to cleanse our palate, before the entree came out was also wonderful. We have been to Majolica for dinner many times and have always loved it, I knew the brunch would be wonderful but I was pleasantly surprised. I am very particular about my Sunday morning breakfast/brunch which if I do say so myself I can whip up a pretty good one so when I choose to go out I expect a perfectly cooked egg. It is amazing to me that "good" restaurants cannot cook a perfect poached egg! Not the case at Majolica the eggs were in fact perfect as was everything! Can't wait to go again!Soon!

OK, seriously now, this place is something really special. I've eaten at some of the finest and most famous restaurants in the country and the world, from Paris to Cape Town to Queenstown, and the reality is that they're usually in big or fancy touristy cities. Small towns aren't blessed with many places like this. Also, even when they exist (Inn at Little Washington), they're usually extraordinarily expensive. This is a small town restaurant, with a big time chef (although he is a local) serving wonderful food at reasonable prices. And, while I feel badly that they don't have a liquor license for their own bottom line, it definitely can help yours. We brought in excellent wines for dinner, and weren't even charged a corkage. That's some small-town kindness if there ever was any. I expected an $8-12 fee per bottle. And, for the low low price of $0, they brought out the appropriate glasses for each wine (sparkling, white, red), and were willing to switch glasses for the reds when we switched styles. And, yes, they chilled and poured them throughout dinner. And while I didn't see it, they had to wash something like 30 or 40 glasses after we left. A bargain? I think so. We did the Farmhouse Table tasting menu (8+ courses), which was one of the best tasting menus I've ever had. Actually, I can't think of a better one... at least not right now. The dishes were all brilliantly simple. They weren't overly intricate or dolled up. But, they were beautiful and delicious. The flavor combinations were innovative and fresh, but never weird or misguided. The courses were nicely timed and brought out to all 7 of us in unison. Many of the ingredients were locally sourced, including 2 delicious cheeses in the pre-dessert course. I think we ate for about 3 hours. I was absolutely blown away. I think the chef is something of a genius. He's been trained, but I've eaten plenty of mediocre food by chefs trained at the best schools. This guy's got "it." Everything was cooked just perfectly as well. The server, Cheryl, with help from Sarah and one other woman who's name I missed, were wonderful. They were knowledgeable and down-to-earth. A rare combination. I can't stand snobby servers. In fact the overall sensation of the place is relaxed and casual, warm and friendly, professional and competent. The decor is clean and simple. Maybe slightly too clean. But, it's all tasteful and comfortable and relatively cozy. People in the area have a jem of a place to go for dinner all week. And for those who are willing to drive on the weekends, the food will be well worth it (well, based on the tasting menu anyway). We drove up from the DC area. I can't wait to go back for their regular menu. Enjoy.

This is a great BYOB French restaurant. Nice, comfortable atmosphere. Casual, but I would not wear jeans and a t-shirt. Food is always great. We have brought many other couples along for dinner, and everyone is always surprised at how good and city-like the restaurant feels. Great for a date, or a nice dinner with friends.

We had a great dinner here month ago. But Easter brunch was terrible Still sitting 2,5 hours waiting for the dessert course. Our very apologetic waitress was sympathetic but could do nothing to move the kitchen along. The food was tasty except for the lamb which was fatty and undercooked. They took it off the bill. The place wasn't packed so it's unclear why the kitchen couldn't keep up. A shame to have wasted a beautiful afternoon in a dark corner listening to endless apologies.

Very good BYOB date night. Excellent tapas place, service was very good. The staff was excellent. The decor and ambiance was like eating in a vintage farmhouse

    (5) ~ Excellent Overall Food & Service!:) Chef Andrew is a true "Foodie"! OUR TOP (5) "KAIZEN" SUGGESTIONS: 1.) Go Back to (3) Courses(Appetizer; Entree; Dessert). 2.) Replace the (4th) Course, with some Shareable Sides... 3.) Seasonally Update Desserts, but keep (1-or-2) Favorites... 4.) Always include your "soon-to-be-famous" Sorbets on the Dessert Menu;) 5.) Offer French Press Coffee...just to appease the Coffee snobs(like me;)lol * BONUS: Sell your Sorbets by the pint!;)lol

One of my favorite restaurants in the area! If you're a foodie like I am, they have a fantastic menu with creative specials. If they ever bring back the special with the scallops with pork belly (not sure what it was called), it's a must try!

Excellent food! Extremely sub par service, long wait for food. My family of four came in for a 7:00 pm reservation on a weekday: fairly primetime slot. We ordered 4 courses off the menu, as suggested. The first course took approx 30 minutes to come out, after which things came out about as expected. We needed to call the waiter over to cork our byo wine, refill our water, order our food. Multiple other tables seemed to have the same experience. The waiter prioritized setting up other tables instead of attending to customers. At a less expensive restaurant, this would be forgiveable, but this restaurant was clearly aiming at something better. 2 stars because this restaurant performed below expectations. The quality, variety, and creativity of the food was quite good, worth the money.

Andrew is without a doubt one of the best chefs outside of the Philadelphia scene. We were seated for a Chef's tasting and selected the 8 course -- it did not disappoint. It started with a sashimi fluke in a beautiful white sauce, followed by oysters and a parade of increasingly sophisticated morsels. The English pea gazpacho with cream was subtle and reeked of summer. Follwed by oysters, and a amuse bouche of cantaloupe sorbe. A framed egg made with porkbelly and trumpet mushrooms ? Get outa town! Anthony Bourdaine would have been proud. Grilled octopus that melted in our mouths. The coup de gras was lamb served over a chickpea and pearl pasta - uniquely delicious. Desert was made up of not one but two chocolate dishes that made my eyes roll into my head- decadent, rich and luscious, We complimented the meal with a bottle of good french Cotes de Rhone and a 2010 VaLa Cedar (nebbiolo) from my cellar. (Good wine from Avondale? Yup and I not crazy) Enjoyable from start to finish- Majolica is bringing some of the sophistication of center city dining to an area parched by pizza shops and sports bars. Keep it coming.

The food was delicious, just I'm not sure that 4 recommended courses is really needed when the same satisfaction could be achieved with 3 meals. This sounds like a way to ask for more money. Other than that, I loved every dish. The octopus, whole fish, and of course tuna are highly recommended!

What a great little BYOB in Phoenixville with excellent food and great service. My wife and I decided to have dinner here one Sat evening to celebrate her promotion at work. We wanted to go with the tasting menu and so I booked reservations thru Open Table. The verbiage that came back from Open Table indicated the tasting menu on Saturday wasn't available until after 7:30, so we changed our reservations to a later time. Little did we know, the tasting menu is not offered at all on Saturday's. Their web site is correct, but OpenTable was not. Anyway, just a heads up. So with no tasting menu available for us, we had the hard choice of deciding what to pick from the menu! I started off with the Cauliflower soup with Maryland crab while my wife went with the Pork Belly with scallops. My soup came out with lumps of crab and then they poured the soup into the bowl at the table. I'm generally not a big fan of scallops, but I actually liked the ones my wife had. Next we shared the pear and fig flatbread, which was simply delicious. I could have ate that all night long! For my entree, I went with the Scottish salmon, which was a special that evening and my wife had the grilled beef short ribs. My salmon was good, but my wife had the better meal that evening. Although we were both full by the end of our dinner, we still went ahead and ordered dessert with myself getting the hazelnut cake and my wife with the chocolate soufflé with salted caramel ice cream. The dry hazelnut cake had multiple flavors including lavender and the soufflé and homemade ice cream was scrumptious. Once again, I think she got the better dessert. Throughout the meal, we got a few complimentary items including fresh baked bread, tuna tartare, and this yummy honeydew sorbet with fried prosciutto on top. I think I could have made a meal out of that sorbet! Service was excellent throughout our 2.5 hour meal. The small place was packed and everything seemed to be hustling throughout the night. In summary, an absolutely wonderful meal and we can't wait to go back with friends of ours. Reservations strong recommended if coming on a Fri or Sat night.

Our party had a reservation for this past Saturday evening from Open Table for 5:00 PM. We were just getting ready to leave at 7:25PM when our waiter politely told us to leave. They needed to get ready for the second seating. After 30+ years of dining in fine restaurants, this was a first for me. I don't care if the food was orgasm inducing, served on gold-leaf plates and presented by angels. I will NOT be returning to Majolica. I only wish the server did this prior to getting his $40 tip. The couple we were dining with just had their first child 17 days prior and were blessed to have an adults-only evening out. We even brought champagne to mark the occasion. The kicker is that there was a open table right next to us. Why couldn't the party waiting for our table sit there? It was a lovely evening until the very end. This was an abomination and with so many other options in the area, I have no need to ever return.

Amazing find in Phoenixville. This is definitely a stand out for miles around. It's a great BYOB that has items on the menu which you won't find on a normal pub's around the corner. The food is great, service is good and deserts are also well thought out.

Dinner last night was awesome! From start to finish the food was great. The little amuse and a nice surprise. My octopus was tender and the accompanying chickpeas with feta made me wish I had a huge bowl of them. Spinach gnocchi was off the charts amazing! Artic char for dinner was light and delish. The desserts we ordered were ok. Chocolate soufflé was a little dry. Only feedback I wish to provide is about the way the menu was presented to us by our server He let us know that they reccomend we make a selection from sections 1-4 and that entree and portion sizes are on the smaller side so we could choose from all categories. It's ok that portions aren't huge but I would like to be the one to decide which sections I order from for dinner. Felt a little like he wanted my bill to grow. Kinda a turn off for us. We will be back! With friends!

One of our favorite restaurants in the area! The appetizers, soups and salads are always great! Had the tomato with balsamic appetizer tonite. Fantastic! My husband had the pork belly and scallop app-could have been a meal! My short ribs were delicious. The duck was so-so....wish they had better cuts of duck like they did back in 2006 when we found this place before the re-did their menu to offer lower pricing.

The chef, Andrew Deery, offers the most inspired cooking in the Philly suburbs. His combinations of flavors are awesome and intelligently used, and he always brings out the best qualities of each ingredient in every course - appetizer, entree and even dessert. Favorites: raw oysters, Spanish octopus, veal sweetbreads, incredible soups, artic char, king salmon, butternut squash agnolotti, berkshire pork, chocolate souffle, coffee-cardamom pots-de-creme. (this review is making me really hungry)... too many great things to describe. After all these years, Majolica is still the best in the burbs!

The food is above avg but I wouldnt call it excellent. I am sad to say that as another review said we were asked to leave after being at a table for 1 hour 45 min and it really ruined the night esspecialy because we were celebrating a birthday with someone that we only see a few times a year. If your looking for a place to get a good meal and are willing to spendsome money its not a bad choice just make sure you dont take to long to finnish your meal.

Majolica is our go-to place for special occasions. This place is the absolute gem of the p-ville foodie scene. Trust me when I say go for the tasting menu. Put your life into the chef's hands and enjoy. He can do no wrong, everything he makes is amazing. My absolute favorites are the soups, sweetbreads and his sorbets. Seriously, I can't believe a restaurant of this quality exists so far outside of the big city. Make a reservation, you will not regret it!

I have been to this restaurant for so many times now, the food is amazing. The first time we went to Majolica was for our 2 years anniversary. We had a 5 course tasting dinner. The chef (Andrew) gave extra course when he knew it was for special day. Majolica uses fresh ingredients , all the vegetable is local organic picked. I love how everything come is reasonable size. The staff is really friendly and wonderful service. I must mention about their amazing bread which freshly make every day. **Fish Demo: Learning about sea food, I highly recommended. This Demo session following with all the sea food that the chef shows. After all I would rate Majolica a 4 start restaurant for BYOB place.

The food gets 4/5 but these chefs need better front end support. At least better than our guy whose name I don't recall (say anything?). He was rude, pompous and pushy. He rolled his eyes when we passed on dessert. And I really did try to overlook the way he weds the specials even after I asked for water to subdue the coughing fit (literally coughing up a storm) I was having. He held up his finger and said "just a moment I only have one more special to tell you about". Really?!! And he was the same with every other table. I really think he believed we were waiting on him! We won't be back

décor is ok nothing special BYO is great glasses are nice they do have larger red glassware if you ask service very good the soups were great with a mini grilled cheese sandwich that was wonderful my chicken was spectacular and a large serving with some kind of toasted bread side that was great prices are fair all in all a fun experience and excellent food we would return a little of a drive to get to from the Main Line but worth the trip read some reviews that were not positive not sure what they are about read some that stated they were rushed through their meal we sat for a long time and no such rush oh well

Majolica definitely lives up to its online reputation, mostly. For starters, the service was casual, but very attentive. I would have expected that the servers would explain any specials or recommend a particular "favorite" but that was not the case. No minus points for that, just an observation. The menu offered was NOT the menu on the website. A small note that the two should always be the same. If you are going to have a website, update it, PERIOD! Now onto the dinner. The bread served with dinner was way to salty. I wonder if anyone in the kitchen actually tasted it. We tried several slices, all were the same. Probably a minor error with one of the line cooks, but it demonstrates the need for constant quality control by the executive chef. This fact will rear its ugly head later in the review. We started with the oysters and the scallops. Both were well prepared, but the oysters with the champagne shallot dressing stole the first course. The scallop carpaccio honey melon with prosciutto was well balanced with flavors and a bit of savory after-tones. Both should be on your list to taste. Our second course was highlighted by the veal sweetbreads. Very flavorful and tender, yet it was a seemingly close cousin of hot chicken wings. The "hot" element over-powered the tenderness of the sweetbreads. A certain misstep, but not a complete failure. The main course was both incredible and completely forgetful. My course was the braised short rib caramelized onion with smoked potato veloute and baby leek. All I can say is WOW. This was simply amazing. My only critique is that the presentation could be far better (see picture). Serving this in a bowl hid some of the ingredients and made eating the dish difficult. When I was almost done the short rib, I realized that there was an ingredient left under the greens (the dimly lit setting didn't help the presentation). Once I did, my last few bites of the short rib with the other ingredients was amazingly well balanced and flavorful. Very savory with a touch of sweetness. But for goodness sake, serve it on a flat plate. On the other hand, my girlfriends dish was completely forgettable. So much so, I have been looking for my receipt to remember the actual menu description (because the website has not been updated). A pic is available in my posts. It was handkerchief noodles with a protein, rabbit or pork (but it's irrelevant anyway). The dish was completely flat almost offensive in taste. It lacked any distinct flavor. Where the opening bread was way too salty, this dish lacked any salt, pepper or other savory flavoring. As noted earlier in this review it would rear its ugly head and this dish was proof there was a problem in the kitchen. For dessert we had the warm Nutella crepes with roasted banana and tarragon, also a coffee and cappuccino. The dessert was mostly sweet with a nice tone from the tarragon. A nice finish to our entire meal. Although the topic of our conversation was my girlfriends entree. The aftertaste simply left too much to be forgotten, and that was not a good thing. Many people may say, why not complain, raise a concern at the time. The reality is, as diners, we often decide to speak with our wallets, and not make a scene. I do it so I can judge an experience on the entire service and menu. Allow the restaurant and chef to SHOW ME what they are made of. My review and feedback should present no surprises to an involved chef and staff. For a restaurant with such great reviews and history of delivering savory, sweet, homegrown unique flavors, our visit was clearly hit or miss. Having said that, I encourage you to try Majolica. Every restaurant has an off-night. This chef is clearly talented and has certainly earned his online reputation. The staff was friendly and helpful. And finally, I think our experience may have been an anomaly. I will visit again in a few weeks and post an update. IF YOU ENJOYED MY REVIEW, PLEASE RATE IT AND SEND ME A COMMENT!

Truly delicious flavor combos! Everything we had was wonderful and flavorful. Our reservation was a Wednesday night, and we enjoyed our meal and conversation for over 4 hours! I'd recommend Majolica on a weeknight if your party wants longer than the restaurant's 2-hour seatings.

A perfect restaurant for those who truly appreciate fine food. Those who just want a casual burger have plenty of other places around that would be better. In a nutshell - the best meal I've had out in a long time. The chef is clearly passionate and masterful in his art, serving up innovative yet extremely satisfying dishes. It's not the kind of place that serves you a tiny portion and you go home hungry, but portions are not the oversized doggy-bag size that are so common when a restaurant tries to make up for quality with quantity. Everything from appetizers to mains and desserts was really stunning. I highly recommend the octopus starter - unreal. Perfect for a romantic night out.

If fine food is your passion and you haven't been to Majolica, get your butt in your car and head for Phoenixville right now. Well, you might want to make a reservation first. But do it now. If you are in the restaurant business and you want to learn how it should be done, go there and watch, listen, taste... pay attention. This place is all about food for people who love food. Chef Andrew Derry is some kind of friggen insane maniacal food genius. I like food that surprises me with vibrance and creativity. Food that makes me smile. On several occasions, the food here has given me a permagrin that I worried would have to be surgically removed. On one occasion I had a steak that was among the best I've ever had. And it was served with the most amazing mushrooms I've ever had the pleasure to consume. We were the last to leave the restaurant that night, so I stopped to thank the chef and I asked him about the mushrooms. He not only told me where he got them, but he gave me the web address where I could buy some. Oh, and then he put a generous portion of those delicious fungi in a bag for me to take home. I not only had a memorable dinner that night, but the next morning I had a most splendid mushroom omelet. The wait staff is exceptionally knowledgeable of the menu and enthusiastic about it. As they should be. And the huge bonus for oenophiles? Majolica is BYOB with no corkage fee. God I love BYOB! Not only can I enjoy the finest food in the area, I can bring a ridiculous bottle of wine to enjoy it with. So dust off that special bottle in your cellar and bring it to Majolica, knowing you've finally found a place worth pairing it with. Five stars for Majolica. I wish I could give it six!

It's not a coincidence that, when you sit down at one of the casual tables at Chef Andrew Deery's Majolica, you might hear strains of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, the Grateful Dead or some other beyond the mainstream musical genius... because, in the kitchen is another artist that defies categorization and whose work commands ooos and aahs from foodies far and wide. Majolica is different like those musicians are different because Andrew Deery is an amazing creator. I've been to Majolica dozens of times and the experience never fails to absolutely amaze me. Some things are menu standards, some are experimental specials... it's all so quintessentially perfect - from presentation, to service, to flavors and tastes. Deery is curious in his experimentation and careful in his local and organic selection but so adventurous in his art... I just love it there and, if you sit down with an open mind and better than average BYOB, you will too!

Our table of four had a reservation and appeared at the door on time. We were seated immediately...BY THE KITCHEN DOOR. Our waiter appeared to be flustered for some reason. We asked for some olive oil to accompany the home made focaccia bread. He was curious why and explained why they don't bring butter or oil...just bring it and shut up! Appetizers were great, especially the salmon with purple mustard. Entrees were all good except the short ribs which were dry and needed seasoning. All in all, dinner was good, but service was mediocre. Just OK.

Legitimately legit. This place is real. I actually had to pinch myself sometimes when I was in this place just to make sure I wasn't in a dream. Some of the things that I had during the five course tasting seemed to good to be true. Oh, the tasting is definitely worth it by the way. Another bonus, I came with a friend who knew the owner (she got her bill waived), maybe he also told the chefs the make the food extra yumtacular for us as well. It all started with a tuna tartare, a small little cracker with minimal pieces of fish on it, I'm not gonna lie when I saw the portion I was like, "Ohhhh, it's one of these places huh." Well, the tartare didn't count as a course, so that was refreshing, the ice cream the served as a palate cleanser after the 5 course didn't count either. I honestly can't remember everything that we ate that night, but I was easily filled to a proper weight by the end of the night. The standouts I do remember, and which are worth the visit in and of themselves had to be the veal sweetbread, white corn soup over the lobster(OMG), and finally the braised short rib. By the way, it is a BYOB so don't be like me and come there with out anything to drink. Water is fine and dandy though if you really wanna get lost in the flavors of what can only be described as food that has transcended to something greater.

My husband and I chose Majolica for our son's rehearsal dinner and we couldn't have chosen a better spot. The service was perfect. We had several different wines to go with the meal along with champagne and the delivery was on time and flawless with each course. The food had all the guests talking about how wonderful it was. Starting off with an egg custard with American sturgeon caviar and then Andrew's white corn soup with lobster the evening progressed and finished with equally delicious dishes. Five stars to Andrew and crew for a magnificent night.

birthday dinner with 2 other couples. copious bottles of wine, including whites and bubbles, which our server failed to place in the community ice bucket - a detail that our usual server would never have forgotten...we have gotten spoiled here with more attentive service in the past. food is stellar...as a matter of fact, i am right now craving my entree of halibut in a light chowder flecked with sweet corn and flavored with tarragon (?)...what i would do for some of that right now, instead of my hard-boiled egg lunch...mmmmmm, halibut....but, i digress. everything that came out of that kitchen was spot-on. the espressos that capped our meal, however, were terrible. i don't know if they are using a roast that tastes burnt, if their grinder is massacaring their beans, of if there is operator-error involved in pulling the coffees, but it was terrible. we let our server know, but as i was wine-happy, and not paying, i don't know if they were taken off the bill. will this stop me from coming back? hell no! i will just avoid the espresso next time

Ate dinner here recently with friends. The menu at Majolica on the week night we were there was very limited, and unlike their on-line menu, which lists many more menu choices I got the short ribs, which came in a bowl, were a bit greasy, and had some bread and cheese on top to mimic the look of French Onion Soup. The entree was nothing out of the ordinary and certainly not the treat I expected from a fancy restaurant.. The entree did not come with any sides at all, and the entree cost was $26. I got a bib lettuce salad which was not good. It consisted of bibb lettuce, 3 small pieces of radishes, a few wedges of hard boiled egg and 2 sardines of all things on top. The sardines ruined the salad for me. The salad dressing was laying in the bottom of of the bowl, not tossed on the salad. This was not a mistake, because two of my friends got the same salad and said her dressing was also on the bottom of their salad bowl. Cost of the salad was $9. The waitress had to bring salt and pepper (which wasn't on out table), and it made me feel like I was insulting the chef, which I wasn't. I just like extra pepper on food. Majolica sould increase the menu selections, and offer a well-balanced meal by adding a side of vegetable, starch, and/or a side salad for the price they charge. This restaurant's atmosphere and the limited menu choices did not impress me, so I won't be back!

Maybe this place is nice for Phoenixville, but I really don't get all the good reviews. In short, weird atmosphere, mediocre food, tiny portions, way overpriced and service that is entirely too casual. A few highlights... 1) Oysters. If you have oysters on your menu for $3 each, you damn well better know how to shuck and serve them and you should know what a real mignonette is. These people serve a mignonette in the form of a salsa complete with a spoon to drop big dollops onto the oyster. Wrong. Not the point. And, they served the oysters on a plate with just a little bit of seaweed. Attention Majolica: The reason oysters are served on a bed of ice or a THICK bed of seaweed is so the liquor (oyster juice) doesn't spill out. They way they serve them, half of the oysters on the plate were sitting on their side, all the liquor gone. We didn't even finish them. 2) Boring flatbreads. Boring. 3) A $23 short rib that consisted of one....one slice of a short rib. I almost started laughing. I'm not some big fat fatty who needs every meal supersized. I can appreciate the small plate, classic French thing. This is not that. This was ridiculous. Plus, it wasn't even that good. It was...boooorrrriiiinnnnggggggg, I know good food. I like good restaurants. This place has good reviews because it is in a small town with not many restaurants. I'm definitely not making the 45 minute drive from Philadelphia again and if I happened to find myself in Phoenixville...I would go somewhere else.

For years I have intended to go to Majolica but never got around to it until this weekend. I am kicking myself that it took so long. The atmosphere is sophisticated, relaxing, and unpretentious. This is a beautiful restaurant with adequate space between the tables and professional service that is never familiar or silly. No one will ask you "How are the flavors this evening?" We went with another couple however Majolica is perfect for a romantic dinner or a family celebration. My son has an appreciation for great food so I will not hesitate to include him. There were a few children in the restaurant when we visited. It is neither casual, loud nor inexpensive but children who enjoy fine dining and are well behaved will love this place. I had a very difficult time selecting a first course because they were offering so many of my favorites. The current menu features sweetbreads, oysters, frogs' legs, pork belly, and some very appealing salads. I chose the chilled English pea soup because the season it so short. The soup was velvety, bright and garnished with crisp prosciutto and creme fraiche - just delicious! My husband had the pork belly and scallop and it surpassed my expectations. Often pork belly is just too fatty and chewy to be enjoyable in my view. I know it is trendy I just don't care for it. Majolica was able to get the pork belly crisp enough that it was really delightful. The scallop and apricot was a great addition. Another diner at out table selected the cheese board. It included a number of my favorite cheese along with honey comb and some almonds. I love cheese and it was a very substantial portion if you are very hungry. For entrees we had a pasta special with uni butter and crab, short ribs, halibut and lamb. Each of us was delighted. The short rib was particularly good, a perfect luxurious braise and very flavorful. Bear in mind that the menu is designed to allow diners to enjoy several courses so entree portions are modest. Dessert highlights included the lemon curd and the goat cheese sorbet. Like many of the other dishes, the desserts were comprised of a series of little jewels that the diner can combine at her whim. The presentations are so pretty and appealing without being fussy. Remember that Majolica is BYOB and that you do not want to rush through your meal. We were heading to a show afterward and finished just in time. We sat a little before six pm and were finished at about eight. You will need a reservation on the weekend. Mode of dress is smart casual, you could certainly go dressier.

Dear Chef Deery, I must say, Majolica is the reason why Phoenixville is a rising star on the culinary map. Your fazzoletti was heavenly. Bursting with flavor. I never had rabbit taste so incredible. Next, your staff is amazing. All the words that could describe an excellent staff can be used; attentive, engaging, funny, friendly, professional. I bow you you, Chef. your restaurant has earned 5 stars from me. I rarely give 5. Keep up the amazing work! John Rizzo

Wow. Talk about hitting the spot after a trying week. Like everyone in the area, we've been cooped up in our house since Saturday due to the snow. Today, our lot was cleared, the roads were clear, and I needed to get back out into the world. For whatever reason, I had it in my head that I wanted to go to Majolica since so many people have raved about it. And now I know why. We're not the most adventurous eaters so I was a little nervous going in. The menu is small and there are a lot of items that we had never tried before. My goal tonight was to try things I had never had before and I have to say mission accomplished on that front. Our meal started with a small piece of rosemary bread sprinkled with sea salt. Nice, simple, and delicious. Next, a server brought out a little sample of salmon tartar with mustard seed on what can only be described in my simple mind as a potato chip. Again, simple and delicious. So much flavor for such a tiny little dish. I was already impressed. Next up were the appetizers. I had a buffalo style veal sweetbread with celery ribbons and blue cheese wedges. Oh man, it was scrumptious. The veal tender. The blue cheese and celery a perfect compliment. My lady had the carrot soup with toasted marshmallow and cilantro. I had just a taste. Afterwhich I needed to change my pants. It was aaaahhhmazing!! I could have eaten another bowl. I don't know if it's normally on the menu but if you go and it is, GET IT!!! Now, we move onto our entrees. She had the smoked chicken with swiss chard (potato's sliced thin with what I assume was swiss cheese). A simple dish. Nothing earth shattering. But the chicken was tender and moist, not overcooked. I had the boar cassoulet. Boar meat, boar sausage, white beans, potato's, onion, carrot and a sprig of fresh thyme with a light broth and some crumbles on top. Wow, wow, WOW!! The boar was tender, the beans and the rest nice and hearty. A perfect choice on this cold night. I'll give credit to Dave F for the recommendation since we popped in to see him prior to our meal. Good call mon amie!! The meal was finished off with some simple dessert. I had the chocolate torte with caramel ice cream topped with sea salt and pistaccios. Very rich and decadent. The salt was a nice touch. She had the shortbread cookies with lemon curd and earl grey ice cream. Again, the earl grey ice cream was a pleasant surprise. Flavor of the tea was subtle, yet fit so right with the cookies and curd. If you are in Phoenixville and looking for meal that will knock your socks off, definitely stop in!! Reservations are a must on the weekend, but during the week I think you could squeeze in without too much hassle. The ONLY downside to our meal was our server. She wasn't bad, but a bit aloof. The other server in the room had a little more personality. Normally, I'd knock a star off for this, but the food is THAT good!! Check it!!

This place is amazing! Got the swordfish and white corn soup with lobster. They had only one server with more people that expected and she was doing her best but every time she got held up they brought out another little sampler as an apology they never even needed. THAT is amazing service. To top it all off the food was insanely good, one of the best places around, suburbs or city!

I am really not sure why all the hype for this place. We had an absolutely mediocre and disappointing dining experience at fine dining prices. First of all, we came explicitly for the tasting menu only to arrive and be told they were no longer serving it. Two months later, they still are advertising the tasting menu on their website. Ala carte items were disappointing. Lobster cauliflower soup was thin and laden with overpowering dill; one chunk of lobster at the bottom of the bowl was still quite cold despite BEING IN SOUP. Seafood stew was average at best. Shrimp were unpeeled, so I'm not sure what the reasoning for that was, like I want to go rifling through a stew to peel my own shrimp. Gross. It didn't come with a spoon or bread (traditionally served with seafood stew) or any way to actually consume the broth and when I asked for bread I was brought a small piece of ice cold focaccia. It seems the trend here is that everything is prepared and comes straight from Majolica's refrigerator. The dessert was completely forgettable, as in, I forget what it was beyond the point that it was dry and bland and served with ice cream. The cheese board was fine, I guess, so good job on putting some cheese and accompaniments on a board. Maybe it's just me, but when you're paying well over $100/couple at a BYOB, I really just expect not to be let down after the meal. If this is just what constitutes "good" upscale dining in the suburbs, I'll stick to the city.

I cannot believe that this place gets such great reviews. My wife and I had a very mediocre meal to say the least. We dine out regularly, and consider ourselves to be well versed in cuisine. I rarely send back food, however my dish (short rib) was utterly tasteless and dried out. My appetizer was almost as bad. My wife had a slightly better experience with her dishes, but the prices are far too high for the quality provided. We will not be back.

Thursday's dinner was proof once again that this is a very very good restaurant, serving delicious food at a reasonable price, making it a top choice in the area. Opted for the pre-fixe they offer on Wed, Thurs and Sundays and at $25 for 3 courses, it is a real bargain and had the combination I wanted to order anyway. Amuse - Yellow watermelon w/30yr balsamic vinegar and micro cilantro 1st comped course - Raw Oysters from Massachusetts, vibrantly briny and creamy Wife's first course - Heirloom Tomato Salad, topped with a tomato sorbet My first course - Corn soup w/Crayfish butter and popcorn 2nd comped course - Buffalo Veal Sweetbreads. The buffalo sauce may seem overpowering at first, but this course is all about the texture - who needs buffalo wings when you can enjoy the super creamy goodness once you bite into the crispy outer texture. Palate cleanser - Cantaloupe Sorbet w/crispy pancetta and cinnamon oil Wife's entree - Steak frites - hanger steak & frites with a generous dab of truffle butter. Perfectly seared to medium rare and topped with fresh flat leaf parsley. My entree - House Smoked Chicken, white corn and almonds. This was one of the best smoked chickens I have had in a long time. The skin was nice and crispy, while the meat was succulent with a not too overpowering smokiness. Dessert - Pineapple Sorbet, Coconut tapioca, Macadamia nut brittle Service was super friendly and attentive. Thanks to Chef Andrew for the extra goodies. By 7pm the place was full with patrons who know that meals like this make a mid-week day special. I am just glad that Majolica is not far from me.

For Phoenixville! Far beyond fantastic! This was a perfect spot for a nice dinner with the family. Proper lighting, noise, table space - I was already a fan. The host and server were both friendly and told us all about the specials in an unhurried manner, which I appreciate. Ordered the cheese plate - good as a light appetizer between 4 people. I had the char ( a northern fish similar in taste to a salmon) - it was accompanied with blood-red orange, it was delicious. Prime rib, duck on a waffle, Monk Fish were all ordered and devoured. There were no complaints at the table. I had the coffee donut dessert, soooo good. Three other desserts were ordered and also didn't go to waste. The portions are a bit small but I still left full after splitting an app, eating a meal and dessert. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant if you're looking for fine dining in the Phoenixville area.

The escargot w/ risotto and their onion rings were bothgreat, but the rest are average or less for the price & portion. Rib-eye steak for two, nothing special, grilled octopus is slightly tough. Not sure about the good reviews about their service. We arrived very early w/ an empty place, but food arrived 1 hr later. Glasses were not refilled with water. Place is way too casual. Hostess need to stop tapping on the reservation console...unless they move the display screen hidden from everyone's view.

My biggest gripe with this place was their approach to beverages. Yes its a BYOB but we don't like wine so we can empty handed. You would think that seeing as how we didn't bring any wine, it would make sense to bring water to the table at a minimum. NOPE. We were never asked if we wanted water or drinks. After ordering the apps I finally asked for some soft drinks and we were brought glasses of coke. They never came around checking for refills, and since they are charging $3/glass you'd think it would be in their best interest to keep bringing us drinks. I had to specifically ask for more soda. I have NEVER been to a restaurant that did not provide water. I was absolutely floored by this. Overall the food was very good though. We started with the cheese plate and scallops with pork belly and apricot jelly. Both were fantastic. Pork belly was tasty and crispy in the right spots. Scallops were high quality and perfectly cooked. I had the pork chop as an entree and it was one of the best chops I've had. Wife got the sweet potato with mushroom dish, and enjoyed it. Desserts were solid as well.

Going to be a strange review. This restaurant seems so well regarded, but our experience was rife with disappointment. Attractive interior and service is solid. We opted for the a la carte over the tasting menu, though they informed us that the tasting menu is supposed to only be for the second seating. They still would have let us do the 6 course, but I dislike that this was not mentioned anywhere on the website. The bread was not great, outer crust very salty, and the inside very dense and bland. We received two amuse-bouche courses, wheee, but neither was particularly good, boooo. Tuna tartar on a pomme frite (read potato chip). The chip was so salty the tuna was overwhelmed. Pumpkin or Squash soup, I forget which, served in a champagne flute with a topping of pumpkin seed oil and cilantro. Not as good as it sounds, the cilantro was out of place. Mackerel appetizer was ok once the skin was removed, it's a very strong fish and pretty much dominated all the other flavors. The buffalo veal sweetbreads were exactly as advertized. What that means is it pretty much just tasted like buffalo wings. The sauce is so strong that the sweetbreads were irrelevant. I like buffalo-ization of foods, but this seemed like a waste. It came with celery and blue cheese, not really any twist on the status quo accompaniments. Escargot flat bread was the best part of the meal. Really well cooked and the flavors were excellent. This was pretty much the level I expected everything to be at. Sorbet intermezzo was excellent. Carrot flavor was wonderfully savory. Basil was the perfect complement. For entrees I had the skate wing. Cooked well, but uninspired flavors. Golden raisins were the main contributors, while the cauliflower did its salty best to ruin things. Wife had the Arctic Char with capers, orange, and fennel. She was kind of silently not enjoying her food, and when we switched I immediately said "These olives shouldn't be in here", at which point she emphatically sprung out of her depression with an exasperated "Thank you, exactly". We also realized every dish seemed to be sponsored by the Big Caper interests. Why are there so many capers in everything? Desserts were quite good. Panna Cotta with roasted strawberries and balsamic was right on, as was the earl grey ice cream with shortbread cookies and lemon custard. Way too many misses to justify a good rating.

First off I would like to thank yelp, and it's yelpers for finding this place for me. I work in oaks, and have for 7 years, got bored one day and decided to see if there were any hidden food gems in the area for lunch. I stumbled upon a french place with rave reviews, with a good amount of reviews for being where it is... so I wanted to get here ASAP. I went this past weekend with my girlfriend, and we had read about the tasting menu on the website (and here), so that is what we were dedicated to. When we arrived it was not advertised on the menu, so we asked the waiter, he asked us if we were allergic to anything, we said no... and the parade of delishness started. Now I'm a sucker for a tasting menu, especially one where I don't even get to pick what I get, I love the surprise, and hate the pressure of ordering with so many good choices. We had the pleasure of having some amazing house made focaccia bread, a cream of cauliflower soup (with lobster!), a small salad, a nice lil amuse bouche, some arctic char with a deep fried smoked salmon mousse stuffed squash blossom, "buffalo (yes, like the wing)" style sweetbreads, escargot and asparagus flat bread, a celery sorbet palette cleanser, a wonderful short rib dish, and then 2 different deserts (a crepe with bananas and nutella, and seasoned doughnuts with a chocolate coffee pot de creme).. at 55$ a person, its a deal that is hard to beat especially for the quality of the food and service, easily one of the better meals I have ever had. Certainly a center city style restaurant that's tucked away in phoenixville, with great food, a great atmosphere, and on a street you can wander about afterwards to walk off the calories. Go there, and go there soon, especially if you want to try and impress someone, and be sure to make a reservation !

I love this restaurant! It's a cute little BYOB that makes you feel like you're in your family's living room but has amazing food. I am a pretty picky eater, and have not found one thing on this menu I haven't loved. Saying this, you have to be open minded to things you may not have normally eaten or think go together. The Chef makes the oddest pairing a symphony in your mouth. I would recommend making a reservation, and plan on taking your time to savor your dinner. Save room for dessert cause they are incredible. If you're looking for a Philly quality restaurant in the 'burbs, this is your place.

If you're looking for a five-star restaurant and expecting five-star prices, you won't be disappointed. My bf took me here for V-Day dinner (I know, it always takes me forever to get around to actually writing a review), and it was pretty phenomenal. I was not expecting to like the "southern greens" (collard, mustard, etc) because I'm not typically a fan, but they did them perfectly and I gobbled up every bite. We had the roast-for-two, which was delicious. For dessert I had the Nutella crepes (I am a Nutella fanatic) and it was awesome! Our server was extremely friendly and attentive, without being annoying, and it was generally a very enjoyable experience.

Unbelievable! The combinations and flavors are unique and wonderful. Try the chef's choice, 6 or 8 course and enjoy the many surprises. The service was great and the plates arrived with perfect timing.

A fine touch. The chef clearly has something to offer. Good value. Pros: Delicious chef surprise at the beginning The bread with escargots was good The duck was outstanding- one of the reasons I would come back Exceptional dessert. Cons: Too much vinegar in the oyster sauce; had to ask for lemon The liver pate was not good The lentils were undercooked and somewhat hard The vegetables served with the duck had little to offer

Majolica was the setting for my 28th birthday dinner this past January, and it didn't disappoint, although it wasn't one of my all-time faves. Love the decor, the warmth, the artwork on the walls, and our table which provided us a direct view into the kitchen so I could pine over the chefs. The service was great, but a little over the top. I don't have to hear "excellent choice," plus the adjective-of-the-day after each person's respective order. Is that mean? Don't answer. Seeing as the very next day was to mark my return to some semblance of health, I took on the great challenge of consuming every carbohydrate Majolica had to offer, starting with their kick-ass focaccia crusted with sea salt and rosemary. My companions (how dorky does that sound, why did I just write that) ordered several appetizers, including a pastrami-cured-salmon over mini rye toasts with mustard (fantastic, and so cute on the plate) and the sweetbreads (delicate.. evil... delicately evil). I had the mushroom soup, but I was a little bit sad to taste more creme fraiche than mushrooms. It was still good though. For dinner, I had something boullabaise-ish (monkfish, calamari, andouille sausage), two of us had the steak frites, and I think the other person had pumpkin ravioli that was just unbelievably sweet and savory. All very good, just not the best meal I ever had. For dessert, I had a chocolate souffle with a ginger anglaise... This was probably one of the best desserts I've had ever in life, so I was pretty psyched about that. I don't know what everyone else had, though I feel there may have been mini-donuts of some sort. Yeah, there were definitely beignets/donuts. I was too entranced by my souffle to take note of anyone else's anything at that point (classic only child), but I seem to recall positive remarks. I feel like I should go back and try to experience the five-star-rating everyone else is raving about, but I have so many other places I want to try, so... We shall see!

Visited Majolica the other night and was very disappointed. No clue what was going on in the restaurant this night. The service was very slow. The food presentation was poor. The tomato appetizer looked like it was just thrown on a plate. My main Salmon dish was so bland it was almost Un edible. My husband's main course was equally disappointing. Our water glasses were only filled if asked. After 2 hours when we got to dessert we really wanted to leave and got dessert elsewhere. It was sad to see such a great restaurant go downhill like this. I used to consider this place the restaurant to go to for a special occasion or to recommend to a friend. I don't think we will be doing that Anytime soon.

Some of the best food I've ever eaten. Their tasting menu is absurd -- I've done it twice, and both times gone with the smaller 6 course menu and left the restaurant completely stuffed. I've had a number of standout dishes here -- the foie gras, white corn soup w/lobster, and short ribs. But I think I knew this place was truly amazing when I had a roasted beet salad and it was delicious. Because I hate beets, I think they taste like dirt. Except at Majolica. Then they taste like heaven.

Phoenixville is lucky to have such a wonderful restaurant in their midst. The warm atmosphere lends itself to such a rich dining experience. We stayed for 3 and a half hours and no one was waiting to kick us out. In fact, the service was so incredible. Just the right amount of time between courses. I wish that I was a little more adventurous with meat items, but that's ok-- there was stuff there for me too :) I ordered the Mushroom Soup and the Chestnut Anglioti- Both nice. I must admit that the cream sauce was a little too rich for me, but amazing flavor. It was a good thing that I followed my entree with a light and refreshing desert of Pineapple Sorbet. Both my husband and my friends thoroughly enjoyed what they ate. And it was nice to kick back and drink our wine and laugh over some great food!

I hadn't been to Majolica for a couple of years. We wandered in on a 'First Friday' in Phoenixville without a reservation and were able to get a table with little wait. That would have been impossible in the old Majolica. Despite changes at Majolica, our dinner was outstanding. We were served a smoked salmon-cream puff as an amuse-bouche. It was very smokey with a hint of sweetness. First courses: Heritage pork loin with fennel and parmesan, and bibb lettuce salad. Both excellent. Second courses: Hanger steak with parmesan mayonnaise, and monkfish and calamari in a chorizo broth. The hanger steak was superb. The monkfish was fresh and cooked to perfection. The chorizo broth, while flavorful lacked pizzazz and didn't successfully infuse into the fish or calamari. Yet even so the dish was good, but not great. We also had a side of grilled asparagus which was fresh, bright and delightful. Desert: Coffee cardamom pots de creme with little fresh spiced donuts, which had floral/aromatic undertones contrasting deep, rich coffee flavor. In a word, fantastic. The service at Majolica is exquisite. What else needs to be said. We will be back soon to take advantage of the $30, 3 course pre-fixe. What a deal that should be. I prefer their new style and approach to the former, more formal one. I'm so happy that Majolica's owners decided to revamp rather than close in this new economy. They have made Majolica even better. Bravo!

Went there with the intention of having a delicious meal. Instead we got mediocre at best appetizers and very bland entrees. After our apps and entree disappointed we decided desserts were not worth our time or money. Service was okay and the restaurant was extremely loud. Thought I was going to find a gem but instead found a piece of coal.

Went to Majolica for the first time on September 12th. After conversing with other yelpers and reading reviews the restaurant exceeded my expectations. The watermelon with 30yo balsamic was a nice start. Was unexpected and complimented our wine nicely. For an appetizer my wife and I split the Grilled Octopus. It was the first time I have ever had Octopus so I can't really say it's the best or worst Octopus I've ever had, but it certainly hit the spot. The seasoning really made me forget that I was eating tentacles. For a main course I had the smoked chicken and my wife had the hangar steak. I normally don't like to eat something as simple as smoked chicken when going out to eat (hence the octopus as an appetizer) but this certainly wasn't boring. The chicken was very tender and not overdone (skin on too, which is the best part). The hanger steak was also done to perfection and was pleasantly surprised to eat the rest of my wife's french fries that she couldn't eat. For dessert we had the Pineapple Sorbet and a coffee. All in all it was a great dinner and a great way to spend our anniversary. Only downside is they don't accept American Express which sadly is my credit card of choice, love the points, so had to swipe the debit instead.

The staff, the location, the menu, the ingredients, the service, the ambiance. All are spot-on when you visit Majolica. It is a great place for special occasions but also perfect for a "date night" too. In previous visits I have enjoyed: Steak Frites, the Cassoulet, Mussels, Carrot Soup, Tuna Tartare, Earl Grey Ice Cream, Coffee Cardamom Pots de Creme. We bring our favorite selection of beers with us when we visit Majolica--Stone Brewery, Dogfish Head, Great Divide, Green Flash, Weyerbacher. We are usually the only table with beer in our glasses, because it is a very popular place with wine aficionados. We are looking forward to attending their special dinner event with Sly Fox Brewery.

Terrific across the board. Strong and welcoming greeting at the door, polished and knowledgeable service throughout, three delicious and innovative courses. And what a value! Saving on the wine mark-up by bringing our own made this dinner very affordable. I live hundreds of miles away and look forward to a return visit if I'm ever in this area again.

Food tastes amazing, and is so creative. Always love a BYOB. Portions and prices are very manageable so you can do a few courses with ease. Menu is limited though and tough to pick from, but you wont be disappointed with any choice you go with.

My wife and I went to Majolica for our Anniversary last September. We are minor league foodies and were excited to try out tastes and flavors. The two appetizers we had were amazing. Before they came out we were presented with a complimentary amuse-bouche that jump started our taste buds. The veal sweet breads are one of Chef Andrews specialties and I would get them again when we go back. The fresh fruit and cheese salad my wife had was also fantastic. Our main course items were awesome. I had the wild boar stew. We split a dessert that capped off a five star dining experience. Being a BYOB make Majolica affordable fine dining. As a caveat we have not dined at Majolica since the menu and set up changed. Though I have absolutely no doubt the food is still out of this world.

I am so glad Majolica remained open and revamped their business model. With the extended hours we were able to pop into Majolica for dinner, something that was impossible before with the limited seating options and waiting list. I think they're new menu is fabulous and the price points are excellent (not that I ever thought they were overpriced). Before we even received our first course the chef complimented the table with a Amuse-Bouche that just tickled our senses with fresh cubes of grapefruit and fennel atop a black olive oil....... Wow! For my appetizer I ordered the Select Oysters with a shallot mignonette that was fresh and tasty. Some of the best oysters I've ever eaten. In between our appetizer and entree we were complimented with a fresh spinach, cubed bacon, and quail egg salad......... a tasty little dish. After that our palate was freshened with a cucumber sorbet over top a dab of olive oil that was light and savory. For my main course I had the Scottish Salmon and asparagus overtop a buttery hollandaise sauce that was light and fluffy, and quite satisfying (cooked to perfection). I even had room for a dessert and I opted for the Malted Barley ice cream with crispy sesame tuille and a caramelized banana. The dessert was rich, smooth and creamy with the perfect crispy texture from the sesame tuille. Again Wow! I am still in love with Majolica and is easily one of the best restaurants in Chester County and definitely ranks with the best in Philadelphia. It's a party for the senses, with textures that will envelope you, and colors that will fill your eye. My hat is off to Andrew, Sarah and the staff for making the effort to keep Phoenixville relevant in the Philadelphia food scene. It's a "foodies" dream for sure. A must try!

MUST go here...and I'm not even a foodie! My husband took me here for Valentine's Day and I cannot believe how wonderful the food was! When we walked in there was some tasty candies on the table and we were greeted with some delicious herb bread with sea salt. It doesn't sound as nearly as great as it actually was- the chef should market this stuff!! I don't what the heck was in that but I LOVED it and would go back for the bread alone. For starters we had the grilled calamari. I usually liked mine fried but we gave it a shot and ...hit #2!! It was grilled to perfection and the flavors were well marinated into food. Grilled calamari is my new preferred method of squid now :) Main courses: Sweet potato Agnolotti and Braised Boar Cassoulet. I don't even know what "Angolotti" are but these were super savory. I would describe it as the most satisfying sweet potato soufflé in a ravioli type outside wrapping. There was a rich crème surrounding the entree but it wasn't overpowering the dish. My husband's boar didn't seem as wonderful as my dish but he looked like he enjoyed it. Honestly, it tasted like pot roast. Dessert: Flourless Chocolate tort- we weren't stuffed because the portions are normal, which helped to appreciate the flavors and not just the bulk amount of poor ingredient food, (I appreciate this!) so we had room for something sweet at the end. This dish came with a salted caramel ice cream...salt?! yes, salt! The chef puts together some amazing flavors and it was a perfect blend of salt and sweetness...the flavor really complimented each other to be a pleasant surprise. Some surprises: I am not sure if it's because of valentines' day but we were given a complimentary appetizer of the tuna tartare and then a melon palette cleanser with fried pancetta. Millions of compliments to the creative chef back there! He/she is simply the best and deserves laud for everything...I am not kidding. It must take a lot to be as creative with food flavors as the chef here was. This restaurant is a MUST!

After a several year hiatus we decided to return to this restaurant, and it was good ,but not great.First of all they were a half hour late in seating us.It seemed as though the wait staff was rushed and stressed. To their credit we received some munchies to hold us over, along with some beverages ie: sparkling water , ginger ale.As for the meal, creatively is was adequate and presented in a nice way .But for the price and the tardiness of the reservation,it will be awhile before we return.Perhaps maybe they will honor their reservation times better and not let the diners who are through with their dinner linger.

Loved the atmosphere and extremely good service. I definitely recommend the braised short rib caramelized onion. Melts in your mouth. I loved the little extras the chef prepared inbetween dishes as well! They were nice surprises and so creative. The earl grey tea ice cream and shortbread cookies were delicious. Only gripe is the bread served with dinner was too salty. Otherwise a really good experience and the staff was very knowledgable, friendly, and attentive. I'd definitely like to come back for the chefs tasting!

Majolica is perfect for all levels of foodies: aspiring, budding and experienced. I went with my friends for girl's night out and had such a wonderful experience that I had to go again and take my husband. The first time I was thrilled with all three courses: an unbelievably smooth, creamy cauliflower soup; moist and mild chicken with a deliciously crispy skin; and the Earl Grey ice cream with shortbread cookies and lemon curd which may be one of the best things I've ever eaten. If you want to know how good the food is, let me say this: when I went the second time, I ordered the salad with cow tongue. I've never eaten offal in my life. I trusted the chef so much after only one meal that I became adventurous the second time. I even had my first oyster for an appetizer and it was wonderful (it had a touch of champagne). I'm thinking we'll go for my birthday dinner later this month. I can't imagine a better way to celebrate than to kick back and enjoy a wonderful meal in a beautiful and relaxing restaurant.

What can I say. This was the nicest fancy restaurant I have ever eaten in. When I went with my wife were were one of two couples in the place. It had a nice quiet romantic atmosphere and it was BYOB so I grabbed a bottle of wine from the state store across the street (now closed). Now what made this such a great experience was the dinner itself. They offered a multi-course sampler of the menu. It was fantastic and introduced my wife and I to some of our new favorite foods. The service was attentive but not overbearing. The chef here prepares a fantastic feast that still allows room for the last course, dessert. I cannot recommend this place enough and would love to take my wife here again (if we can only get a night to our selves)

This French-style BYOB is an absolute find. The atmosphere when I have been here is intimate, quiet and romantic. The service is extremely attentive and friendly. As for the food, Majolica even outdoes its excellent atmosphere and service. The carrot soup is out of this world. The tuna steak entree is among the best I have had anywhere in the world. The prix fix menu which offered on Sundays (and I believe Tuesdays) for $30 is exceptional value for the quality of the food. This is a must visit BYO when in the area.

Dinner at Majolica had a few ups and downs which made it hard to decide between 3 or 4 stars. I eventually settled on four just because the food really is a work of art at this place. Nevertheless, for the prices, I am holding them to a higher standard, which almost made me pick 3 stars. For starters, the veal sweetbreads were amazing but the portion size left something to be desired. The lobster corn soup was also delicious, as was the tomato mozzarella salad. Things definitely went downhill with the entrees. Not to say they were bad, but they weren't great either. I had the Arctic Char, which the waitress warned had bones in it (and she didn't lie). I'm not a fan of picking fish bones out of my mouth in the middle of a nice restaurant. My fiance had the Beef Short Ribs which were also mediocre. We finished the meal off with a chocolate torte dessert that was so good and nicely paired with salted caramel ice cream. The biggest problem with Majolica, in my opinion, is their ambience. It was too quiet and the lights were VERY bright. It made things awkward to sit under glaring lights and be able to overhear every word at the table next to you. For the money diners are spending in there they should be able to relax by candelight and hear some nice music during their meal. All in all, you can't deny that their food is pretty good, but I'd rather go somwhere with some atmosphere.

The chef's tasting was beyond good. Eight courses (or nine) of absolute deliciousness.

My wife and I went there last weekend and came away less than impressed. This was our third visit and we keep waiting for it to live up to its hype, sadly it never seems to. The Island Creek Oysters were delicious (maybe it was because I haven't had oysters in awhile) and the Cauliflower soup was amazing. We chose the Bartlett Pear and Gorgonzola flatbread and was blown away by it. Unfortunately, the main courses, Grilled Swordfish and Fideua, left alot to be desired...not much taste. Other than the starters, the meal was very average. Service was great though!

I really loved the atmosphere. this place has a very cool vibe going. The staff was friendly and the food was really good. I really suggest the lamb carpaccio minted fava beans as an appetizer.

Finally made it back to Majolica after far to long (my absence was due to circumstances far beyond their control). As usual, they did not disappoint. Fantastic food and service as always and a very nice atmosphere. And it never fails -- every time I visit Majolica at some point I remark, "I couldn't even imagine a place like this existing in Phoenixville when I first moved here."

When I called to make reservations, the chef answered the phone and we had a conversation about the tasting menu - and he boasted that his tasting menu was better than those at Becca's or Birchrunville Cafe - both outstanding in my opinion. So my expectations were high. Our reservations were for a Wednesday night at 6:30pm. We were seated promptly but in a corner table by the kitched which had loud vent/air conditioner blower noise. Oh well. There were only two servers working the entire restaurant - one efficient, polite, and competent, the other frazzled, tossing food and dishes, clearing dishes and dropping something most of the time. We opted for the 8 course tasting menu in order to have the cheese course. The first course, oyster shooters with bloody mary mix served in champagne flutes, came out right away. And then the wait began. It was a full 30 minutes before the second course, a lovely omelet with charred mushrooms and parmesan cheese. There were lovely courses but mediocre ones as well. The inconsistent service was a problem. Unfortunately the poor server served the soup, which was poured tableside out of a small pitcher. The first person to be served got at least two-thirds of the entire portion, the second person got about a quarter, leaving not quite one spoonful for the third person at the table. There may have been more but there were considerable drips on the table ... Another problem was the plating - the omelet came on a long narrow plate - pretty, but not functional, while the short rib (that required a knife a fork - it was dry and tough) was served in a very small bowl - difficult to cut. We finally finished the meal at 9:45pm. And that much anticipated cheese course? Not worth it. Dessert was different for each person - my flour-less chocolate cake was dry and tasteless ... Bottom line, there is some good food here. But the chef and staff are overwhelmed and can not pace a meal or deliver as promised. The tasting menus mentioned above at Becca's and Birchrunville Cafe are much much better than the hit or miss dishes offered at Majolica. I will not dine here again. Much too dissappointing!

I went to Majolica with my husband for our first wedding anniversary. Everything we had was spectacular, and the pre-fixe option (this was a Sunday) makes dinner here an excellent value for the quality of food. We will definitely be back!

Living in the suburbs, I find it difficult to replicate a Philadelphia-grade restaurant experience, but I finally found one in my own town! My husband and I have been to Majolica dozens of times over the past 6 years, and it very rarely disappoints. We love that it's BYO and that the service is well paced and very welcoming. We typically go during the week and have the same server every time who is wonderful in all ways. But the best thing about it is that the food is fabulous--tasty as well as inventive. Our absolute favorites are the chicken liver pate and just about any soup (but especially the butternut squash soups and corn soups). To me, portions are great. But if you like a family-sized, 5lb portion of food a la TGI McDooligans then you will be disappointed. Actually, if you like anything about a TGI McDooligan-type place then you probably won't like Majolica. The only negative things I can say about Majolica is that there was a time when they seemed to be always closed (inconveniently on the days when we could get a babysitter) and the weird shaped bowls/serving vessels can be annoying.
