Little Kitchen of Bala, is located in the Wynnefield neighborhood of Philadelphia. It is actually on the corner of 50th & City Avenue, in the middle of a commercial shopping district (ACME, Target, Bala Cynwyd Shopping Center all within a mile) and about 4 blocks from St Joseph's University. Although Little Kitchen has a huge dining room, I tend to get take out exclusively. Little Kitchen has an extensive menu - and the official name is Little Kitchen of Bala Japanese and Asian cuisine. That is because they have a Sushi bar, Japanese dishes, Chinese, 10 Thai dishes (Pad Thai, Pad See Eiw, etc) and even Polynesian Fried Rice. Thai food - my favorite Thai dish is Pad See Eiw, and Little Kitchen does pretty well with this dish. But, my fave Thai dish here would have to be Shrimp Pad Thai. They don't skimp on the Shrimp and there is plentiful to share with another person. The Sushi is fresh and tasty and there's plenty of choices - I usually opt for the Tri-color Sushi (which consists of 3 Yellowtail, 3 Salmon and 3 Tuna), plus, it comes with Miso soup. All and all, Little Kitchen prepares interesting dishes, has a good selection, decent prices and a nice family-owned restaurant. PS It's nice for me too, since it's just across the street from my apartment. Yeah, I always wanted a bar of that sort (or coffee would be good too!) at my corner!.....

I live in Bala Cynwyd, and as hard as it is to maneuver to park at this place, it is my "goto" Chinese for a quick Saturday lunch. It never seems particularly busy (which is the only reason I have never tried the sushi / sashimi) but given the freshness of the ingredients used in their standard Chinese fare, I am about to give that a try. Though I sometimes take out, I really prefer eating in, because the dishes I prefer here (Orange Flavor Beef and Sauteed Pan Fried Beef) are SO crispy, travel would spoil the experience. I usually NEVER order beef in Oriental restaurants (except Korean) because it is inevitably the cheapest round money can buy. Little kitchen EXCELS at beef, though my chicken dishes have always been quite good as well. I don't know why this was listed as "Thai" other than they have Pad Thai on the menu. This is really standard Chinese, though the chef is very competent at Bento boxes, and some Indonesian style curry, and stuff like Roti Canai. What impresses me is when I taste fresh cilantro, real garlic slivers, real scallions and fresh broccoli, bell peppers, etc. in a $10-12 dish. There is real attention to detail here, and crispy stuff is crispy, and soft stuff is soft. Food is served PIPING hot. Service is very friendly, and English is well-understood (though they seem very happy to accommodate attempts at broken Mandarin.) Portions are so big that two people can easily split an app and a single entree and leave satisfied. Maybe it helps to be recognized as a regular, but I have never been dissatisfied with a meal, and I've eaten at Yang Ming, San Kee, Suzanna Foo, Han Dynasty, and dropped a lot more $$$ and left less happy. The only complaint I have is that when I order something "extra spicy" there may be an extra dried red and slice of jalapeno tossed in. I suspect the chef does not want to offend Western palates. Anyway, I have eaten in all the oriental restaurants on the Main Line and MOST of the well-know ones in Chinatown and S. Philly and I still come here at least once per month. Maybe I've been lucky with the dishes I've chosen, but I am ready to start checking out some of the less obvious ones. I'll append this review when I do.

I feel like Little Kitchen is one of the few Chinese places around this area, mainly due to it's menu, but I can't be certain. The reason why I say this is because Little Kitchen offers the run of the mill Chinese fare, Thai food, Japanese sushi, and American selections. Wanting to try some Chinese in Philadelphia I ordered some Kung Pao Chicken and beef fried rice. It was late, but delivery was quick. The chicken was good, tender, and the sauce was a nice consistency but not spicy, almost sweet. The rice was not so great, dry and the beef was a bit chewy. Their menu says they have parking in the rear.

The first few times I ordered from this place, the food was always horrible, mediocre at best, but being quite limited in the restaurants that I can order food from, I decided to just try different things each time until I found something that I liked. However, my experience today has changed my mind about trying them ever again. Not only did this place take over an hour and a half to deliver my food, but the food was horrible. Then halfway through eating it, I found a piece off of a metal bottle cap in it. I will never, ever order from this place ever again.

The best thing I've had here is the Black Bean Chicken. It is DELICIOUS, and comes with all kinds of vegetables! I usually just stick to broccoli, carrots, onions, peppers, and mushrooms. They offer a lot of atypical chinese entrees.

I've been ordering from Little Kitchen for 3 years now, since I started working in Bala Cynwyd. I have never had an issue, received cold food, bad food, etc. I don't understand the bad reviews here. I've had the sushi and while it's not Morimoto quality, it's pretty good for what it is! The staff is always pleasant and willing to accommodate requests, the prices are reasonable and the food is always good. It's a sure shot for Chinese in this area!

just one visit. General Chicken and Sesame Chicken was ALL dark meat. That's a tell - they skimp on ingredients. Food tasted ok, but it lacked an love. ONE GOOD THING - they have online ordering, unfortunately, it went downhill from there.

I'm always leery of a restaurant, especially an Asian one where they mix several kinds of food together. At this place you can get, Japanese, Thai, and Chinese from what I've seen on the menu. From what I've gathered of places like this they do all the food ok, and known really good, this place falls into that category. This is a Chinese restaurant that pretends to make other food. The Chinese fare is good and standard, but the Thai food i got was terrible and i could not finish it. I got the Pad Thai which was basically a Chinese dish called Pad Thai, and because i was expecting Pad Thai like you get in a real Thai restaurant i was very let down. Don't be shocked if you order something not Chinese from this place and it comes tasting like Lo Mein.

I was really impressed by the delivery service. My food came promptly, far before Grub Hub estimated, and they threw in some free egg rolls. The sushi was very good- better than many sit-down restaurants I've been to. I'll definitely be trying Little Kitchen again.

They make delicious sushi! I have ordered it from them multiple times and since they have great coupons right on their grubhub order page I always wind up having leftovers! I highly recommend it! Also their seaweed salad is worth the $6!!

Not only do they take FOREVER to get here (they are right up the street from us) But this is the second day IN A ROW that they messed up our order and forgot parts of it. The Sushi is amazing...but have herd bad things about the rest of the food. Our office will no longer be ordering from them. Menu removed!

I used to order from Little Kitchen fairly often. I always ordered take out since the ambiance of the restaurant isn't great and the place is usually empty. I would get the General Tso's and various kinds of sushi. The food was actually pretty good and for a while I was a loyal customer, but the last time I ordered from them, they gave me spoiled sushi. It smelled pretty bad and I really don't see how they could have missed that. It's really a shame - I haven't been back since.

The delivery is unbelievably slow. We ordered 1 hr and 45 mins ago and the driver is still not here despite the owner's insistence that the order is "on the way". It's past 9pm and our exhaustion outweighs our hunger. It's a Tuesday night so even if they really are busy like they say, they should really apologize for their tardiness or do something so that their customers are not kept waiting. We will definitely not be ordering here ever again!

This resteraunt is great for everyone love it would really recommend for Chinese people they have a lot of variety and most delicious cuisine. Pad tai is very good and so is their general tso chicken very big fan of their food. Lo mein is also very good and their sushi is absolute heaven i love little kitchen it is heaven to me. The best Chinese place in philly by far tops all of the chinese places nearby and always is friendly when i order. They also gave me free egg rolls or general tso chicken if i order 30.00 or more awesome place!

Extremely slow delivery and dishonest on the phone. Stated that the driver got lost on a delivery of 2 miles away. It's difficult to see how a 40 minute delivery delay be attributed to getting lost when we have a gps in each of our phones. Once the food arrived it was decent with a decent price however the trip it had made certainly spoiled it. There are plenty of other options in the area.

Just ordered a large rib for for and coworker. the ribs were completely dried out and it was not barbecue sauce it was some kind of syrup. I called they restaurant and the guy refused to replace order or give me a refund saying everyone else like it like that. Totally will never order from this place again. had bad experiences with this place in the past. Should have learned my lesson. Well lesson learned.

Delicious food. Well prepared. Courteous service. I had mixed vegetable egg foo young. It was fried light, crisp on the edges, not greasy and chock full of fresh vegetables. On the Japanese side, I had the seaweed salad and it was terrific! Included julienned cucumber, pickled ginger and sesame seed garnish. Well pickled, not soggy. BY FAR, THE best Asian cuisine for delivery in my neighborhood. This will be my go-to from now on!! Great Job!!!

On time delivery, food in general was delish, friendly service; truly no negatives other than I've had more flavorful sushi from my hometown, and that's the only reason it got a 4 star rating.

Probably the most disgusting food I have put in my mouth. The miso soup was powder chicken bouillon that reminded me of wet socks. The sesame chicken, what can I say? "Chicken" reminiscent of pineapple. Not even close to sesame chicken. I was sick for 3 days after eating here. Customer beware. Run!!!

Lil weird! Walked in to place an order for take out and there were three young children at three different tables coloring, playing on a comp etc. ! Additionally, there was what appeared to be a 12 or 13 yo at the register taking orders!!!! Food was decent at best. Would prob visit again IF I was unable to get Asian cuisine elsewhere

Food took almost two hours to get here and ended up being soggy and every roll I had was falling apart. Also the miso soup tasted like lukewarm watered down chicken broth. Will never be ordering from there ever again.

I ordered delivery over the weekend. A mix of sushi and Chinese food. The portions were certainly enough, if not plentiful. However the flavor was some of the most bland Sushi and Chinese food I have ever had. The spider roll had almost no spices to it and the tuna in my tuna roll tasted like it was out for the entire day and had its flavor sucked out. It is also slightly overpriced overall for sushi, especially for it's location. Then the Chinese food. The egg rolls, again, were bland. Huge for sure, but I needed at least 2 duck sauce packets to get some tiny iota of flavor. I ordered the Sesame Chicken, which had authentic sesame seeds, but the flavor is just nothing in comparison to China House. My girlfriend ordered Buttered Shrimp. It was advertised "with vegetables". The only vegetable it came with was a bed of lettuce. It's safe to say, I will pass on Little Kitchen in the future.

The food was simply not very good. Tried a mix of Japanese and Chinese. The tempura was very soggy.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
