I love La Poblanita. When I lived in Norristown, I would frequent this place a few times a month. Since moving out, I don't get over there as much, but I still make a trip once in a while. They're food is amazing, authentic, and full of boombastic flavors that will make you weep with joy. Even better is that they turn into a nightclub at night. I'd eat everything they have.

The sister restaurant to my beloved El Primo. Sorry but it just doesn't measure up to its sibling. Go the extra 5 blocks and go to El Primo. La Poblanita's bar is happening however, if dark crowded bars blaring Tejano music are your thing. The food was just ok. Many it needs a bit more time to develop. We'll see. Live shows on the weekends. Where they set up the 20 piece Tejano bands is beyond me!

Top notch Mexican restaurant/bar on Marshall Street in Norristown's Little Mexico district. They give you a nacho item for free - chips with bean sauce, cheese, salsa, and jalopenos. A lot of good entrees: -costillas de puerco - mole poblano - carne al pastor - Their Cemitas sandwiches are awesome (Cemitas Milanesa) - Pambazo! They serve beer and alcohol plus take credit card. Enjoy! I believe they serve food til 9pm but then stay open as a bar til late.

So I've recently decided to take my own personal foray into the local mexican cuisine, due to the fact that I crave chorizo and warm tortillas approximately every 45 minutes or so. I went to La Poblanito the other night with some friends from work, on 'karaoke' night. To a gringo, it was a slightly weird, but mostly fun and friendly setup. You walk in to a room that's almost completely empty, with chairs set up all around the walls and a DJ or two up on a small makeshift stage which kind of gave it the feeling of a high school dance. As everything was in spanish, all I can figure out was that they'd have a little karaoke and then a little dancing, and it would go back and forth. Whatever the set up was, it was still pretty fun. Unfortunately, I would not really recommend people as white as myself to go alone. Not because you wouldn't be welcome, because I definitely felt welcome, but just.. it was a weird set up. But tonight, I went for food! And it was good! I ordered a cemita, which I figured to be a mexican sandwich. So I asked if it was similar to a torta, to which I was told no. However.. kind of came out looking just like the last torta I had at El Limon, just with a different kind of roll. Oh well, it was suuper delicioso. I ordered mine with al pastor - a spicy, marinated pork. It was really flavorful, definitely had a little kick, and was kind of half tender, half a little chewy depending on where you chewed. If that makes sense. Also had avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, chiles, and several other things that all melded together really well. Didn't come with a side, but the huge sandwich was only 6 bucks! My friend ordered the chiles rellenos, possibly my favorite mexican entree item. It was maybe 8 or 9 bucks, and came with two chiles and a huge portion of rice and beans and corn tortillas. It looked ridiculously good, but unfortunately we were not good enough of friends for me to feel okay stealing his fork as I was not given utensils with my sandwich. Oh, also I just reread Joey's post and it was a good thing I hadn't read it before my visit. I would have loved to have tried the complimentary nachoey thing he received; we were given a basket of the weirdest chips I've ever seen. Have you ever gotten a bag of puffed potato chips in the shape of smiley faces? No, just me? Either way, imagine a basket of those, with a drizzle of hot sauce. Really weird, but luckily our entrees were good enough that I forgot about the chips until just now. I stopped in around 6:30 on a Tuesday night, and the place was empty. So food obviously came out quick, and our server was very nice and even let me order in my stilted spanish. I will definitely be back for more!

This place is awesome! Awesome soups, tortas, plates! My boyfriend (white guy) loves la Cemita torta and I love "caldo de res" (beef stew) or any other plates. Does it have great service, not really. Is it much of an atmosphere, not really. But is the food good and authentic? Yes ma'am! I come here 1x a month! Can't go wrong. Beats El Limon any day. Plus it's cheap! For appetizers you either get free nachos or free mexican flour snacks (see pictures). Margaritas are good too. Winner!

My wife and I love this place. The food is excellent, the service is always friendly and quick, and the atmosphere is pleasant. Did I mention the food is excellent!! We intended to try all of the Norristown Mexican eateries, but after trying La Poblanita and then a 2nd restaurant on Marshall Street, we decided there was no need to try any more...

Love this place! Anything you order is good, I love their Chicken quesidialls and chicken nachos the most! The staff is friendly and quick. I usually don't have much time to eat since I go during my break but I never have to wait long for my food. Never been disappointed.

Chose La Poblanita on my trip up Marshall St. to find the best tacos in Norristown. I thought the meat was FAT-TY. It was a lackluster experience. We tried the cemita, which sounded awesome, but was fatty. The tacos were underseasoned and not exciting. This is definitely more of a restaurant that the other taquerías, and has alcoholic beverages if that interests you. If you are looking for the best food though, I'd go across the street to Los Compadres.

So pleased with this place. Had a margarita, and chorizo flautas... So good... My gf got a beef torta, which was absolutely delicious. I plan to return... Especially bc it's around the corner, and the staff was extremely friendly.

The fiancee and I killed a few hours here while we waited for her car's windows to be tinted (with about 6 hours of delays) - totally random stop. However, the menu was huge, the food was good, and they had a nice bar selection. Service was friendly, too. Drinks were overpriced, and the restaurant was EMPTY at 7:30pm on a Friday. It seemed a little strange, but maybe the party starts later on (?)

I'd go again in a heartbeat. Very clean and staff was very attentive. Best chicken caesar salad and chip. Dressing made on premise. Chicken was season slightly on the spicy side. Loved it Christine Sherbert Fort Washington, P

Their drinks are way overpriced. The food is okay but it's annoying to have your food come out cold when there is no one else in the restaurant. I've been to their nightclub and I won't complain too much about this because it's simply not my type of seen. They mostly have Banda music and the crowd is kind of seedy. Their drinks are horribly overpriced.

MexiQuest continues tonight with a trip to another West Marshall Street Mexican restaurant, this time the biggest place on the strip, La Poblanita. Billing itself as a restaurant and bar, La Poblanita is physically the largest place on the west side of Norristown for Mexican food, and I can safely say it also the most "restaurant-y." Sadly, while it is good, it is outdone by some of it's local competitors. The place is very clean and neat, with an extensive menu written in both English and Spanish. Similar to Los Arcos, the restaurant has a large selection, but nothing overly "exotic." La Poblanita also has many menu items quite obviously designed to cater to the non-Mexican diner... in fact, they have a dish quite literally named "Tacos Gringos". For these reasons, La Poblanita would be a good choice for someone looking to try authentic Mexican but who may be intimidated by the more traditional places. I ordered a Tijuana Burrito with chicken. I'd never heard of a"Tijuana Burrito" before, including while I was physically in Tijuana, but the description billed it as a classic burrito. (As an aside, I've been trying to stick to simple, common menu items like tacos and burritos in order to more effectively compare each Mexican restaurant I travel to. I mention this so that the reader won't think I'm boring and lame because I order the same stuff over and over.) While waiting, I was given the best complimentary chips and salsa I think I've ever had. The warm tortilla chips were covered in spicy roja salsa, refried beans, peppers, and tomato. It was practically a nacho dish, but complimentary. The burrito itself was okay... It was a little smaller than anything else offered in Norristown, with pretty simple ingredients. Lettuce, tomato, peppers, cheese, sour cream, beans and rice, with a side of either verde or roja salsa. It was very similar to the offering from Los Arcos, only a smidge smaller and possibly with a little more meat... or perhaps it was just packed tighter. Hard to tell. It was also a little more expensive than the offerings from other spots, at $7 for the burrito, with no sides. Finally, while the service was not bad, it was not as friendly and welcoming as some of the other Mexican spots in the area. At night, La Poblanita turrns from restaurant into nightclub and bar. I can't comment on how good or bad it is, because I've never been to the bar portion, but I do know it can get a little rough amongst the locals when the alcohol starts flowing. Unless you're from Norristown and know what you're doing, I would recommend staying away from La Poblanita after 10pm.

This is my favorite Mexican place. I was shown this gem by my good friend pack a native Mexican and at the time he lived in Norristown. The food is excellent and each entree comes with a 6 salsa spread, which can be spiced up with the myriad hot sauces on each table as a standard. I highly recommend their jar riots sodas and the al pastor, a spicy and sweet carnitas taco. There is also a full bar with a fairly impressive, yet certainly well thought out tequila selection. This place is a gem and well worth traveling to.

Well, La Pablonita ... where I have spent numerous sunday nights dancing to music I dont know and having a blast! I have eaten lunch here one...it was forgetable honestly and i want to go back to gert something besides chicken tacos. The bar/dance nights are pretty fun... caution: they do charge a cover when they feel like it. and gentlemen be prepared to be frisked by security!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
