It has been quite a few years (maybe 4 or 5?) since I have been to Duck Sauce, so the hiatus is finally broken. Duck Sauce has been tucked into the Whitehall House on the end of Main street for the last 15 years or so. For all the history nerds out there, it's on the National Registry of Historic Buildings (which I am, so I find it cool... so deal). The interior is nicley done with nicer versions of your basic Chinese restaurant decor; staples such as archways, dragons, Chinese inspired art... ect. Then the menu came.... This is where I really became frustrated, because Duck Sauce certainly earned 4 stars from me because they did nothing wrong. I got the sweet and sour chicken which was good. The person I was with got one of the vegetarian entrees which was also good. Service was good, the restaurant clean. Everything to warrant 4 stars from me. I became frustrated though because it was the exact same place as when it opened. Same decorations, same menu, same everything. I understand the axiom "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", but I think if nothing else, menu's do need to updated from time to time. The food is what attracts people to a restaurant. Duck Sauce is still far better than your basic Chinese place. If you haven't been before, you should go because it is a nice little place. Plus you can walk around and look at all the neat houses of Newtown afterwards.

I ordered from Duck Sauce tonight for take out. The large "House Lo Mein" that I ordered literally did not have a single piece of shrimp....not one. It had two small pieces of pork, and mostly chicken...barely any vegetables. The noodles were undercooked- they had an al dente texture which made for gummy mouthfuls of noodles with barely any vegetables, pork, and no shrimp. I also ordered the "Chicken with Mixed Vegetables". It was more like "mixed vegetables with a little bit of chicken"- barely any chicken in comparison to the amount of vegetables. I feel like I was ripped off with my order!! This restaurant offers over-priced food that is far from authentic.

It's been about 9 months since coming back here and wow have things changed. The wonton soup tasted like they used a chicken bouillon cube in it. The scallion pancake was doughy with no flavor. We ordered the shrimp and eggplant and sent it back because the shrimp were so tough that they were impossible to cut with our fork. The only good dish was the Singapore noodles with pork. Very disappointed on this trip.

Found myself in the area for an event and needed a place to grab a bite. You certainly cannot go wrong with stopping in to Duck House. Friendly staff and the dishes have a bit of a twist on them. Had the Shrimp & Lobster Sauce that also had chicken in it. Out of the ordinary from NY where I'm from originally. BYOB is also great and I saw many other patrons doing so. If I ever end up in the area would def go back.

Just returned to Duck Sauce after an absence of more than a year. It remains the dark wooded small dining room with booths around the walls. The teapots are still heavy metal with better than standard tea. The menu does not appear to have changed at all, and that was a small disappointment. However, the Pan Seared Pork Dumplings were well made, held together, and were very tasty. I asked for a side of Hot Sesame Oil to bring up the burn, and poured it directly into the Soy/Vinegar Mix they dispense with this dish. With that, it was very enjoyable. Too, the Teriyaki Salmon was a nice size steak and was grilled just enough to leave it thick and juicy with a glowing glaze. The golden yellow Mango surrounding the salmon was both ripe and sweet and a great color combination. I was happy with both dishes. Duck Sauce is still a solid "Fusion" house, and the best Newtown currently has to offer. It does feel a bit stuck in the 90s, and could use a makeover in terms of ambiance and offerings. It will not satisfy the more sophisticated pallets accustomed to authentic Chinese, Japanese or Thai cuisine, but it does turn out tasty plates that are enjoyable for what they are. I know where to go when I desire serious Asian food. But, when I am not in the mood for a longer ride, and the comfort of home is appealing, Duck Sauce still provides the mood and flavor that keeps me satisfied.

Hello my favorite chinese restaurant. Came back several times in one week for lunch and dinner. For dinner I finally got to try the duck at duck sauce and I have to say it's definitely not their best dish. As a duck lover, I was hoping it was the duck where it's like crispy on the outside but it was more cut like a steak with a lot of cabbage underneath it. The dan dan noodles did not disappoint but definitely not as good as han dynasty, they could chill on the sodium on the sauce. The won ton soup is amazing though, with the basil and everything. Not the biggest fan of the duck roll, I couldn't really taste the duck in it. The tom yum soup though was realllly good but it's called something else on their menu like spicy thai soup or something. I have to say though, next time I go back I'm going to have to stick to my usuals instead of trying to switch things up

The food is top shelf. Was recently there with friends, and the experience was unforgettable. The appetizers and entrees were delicious. The side items were worth every penny. The portions are very generous, and the price is very reasonable. Personally, I have eaten Sesame Chicken at many Chinese Restaurants, and I must say this is some of the best. And do not forget to order the lettuce wraps to get you started, which arguably is one of the coolest and best appetizers of any restaurant in Newtown. I get excited whenever my future wife suggest Duck Sauce which has become fairly frequent. Lucky Me!

For fancier Chinese takeout, please try this place! The food is delicious and on repeated trips has been served very fresh and consistent. The cod is flakey and juicy and one of my favorites. Scallion pancakes are always crispy and flavorful but not too greasy. Prices may make this place not your go to for everyday Chinese but definitely worth the reach every now and then!

They only take reservations for five or more! BTW I kept reading in the reviews that this was the best Asian spot in Newtown. Me thinks ya'll need to go outside of Newtown for your Asian cuisine. Because if this is the best you've got here.... UGH! I ordered take out last night for four of us. I always order my sushi with rice paper instead of seaweed. The very pleasant person on the phone assured me this was no problem and that it was actually how my order was regularly served. Wrong! Got back to the house to find it all wrapped in seaweed. There went my dinner. Veggie spring rolls were good. The kids had sweet and sour chicken-typical of most other Asian spots. White rice included. They included two fortune cookies for a large order of sweet and sour chicken, two appetizers and a sushi order. I couldn't care less, but three kids had to split two fortune cookies? Good times. Will not be back. Parking is on the street. Front door is chaos to get in and out of. Good luck!

For what it is and location, Duck Sauce is delicious. They have bottomless crispy noodles which I love and the sauces are always replenished. Depending on the time/day you go, be sure to be patient. You are greeted with friendly faces and then when your table is available, you are promptly provided menus and their specials are always listed on the table. If you have dietary restrictions, the staff is well educated to go through their recommendations. I ordered the pork with snow peas. It literally feeds at least 2-3 servings. Their portion sizes are generous and full of flavor and very fresh. Service is very attentive and they are also a BYO. Can't complain, never had a bad meal here.

This is the best chinese food I have ever had. I have lived in cities, traveled to china itself, and I currently live in Newtown. The staff is great, friendly, and accommodating! The owner is also very nice! I recommend their beef pad thai (yes I know it's not true chinese food but it's to die for), chicken lettuce wrap, and sesame beef. SO GOOD.

Mu shu rolls....mmmmmm! Shrimp in tequila lime cream sauce were perfectly grilled shrimp in a light but delicious sauce. I wanted to lick the plate!

To be honest, I had fairly low expectations for Duck Sauce. While I currently am spoiled for choice in NYC, I did grow up in the 'burbs and was expecting the usual American Chinese grub. Duck Sauce impressed me by having good American Chinese food. The complimentary crispy noodles were fresh. The cast iron teapot was a nice touch too. Pan fried dumplings were a bit too oily for me and not crispy enough, but the wrapper was delicately thin & the pork filling was flavorful. The General Tso chicken wasn't spicy for me even though I saw a chili pepper - tasted more like sweet & sour to me but the texture and quality were good. Would go again.

Duck sauce is good but not the best. I order from here whenever I'm craving Chinese because it's my favorite in the Newtown area but it's also one of the only places in the Newtown area. I love their wonton, fried rice and their pan fried dumplings. I've had their Hunan shrimp which didn't have much flavor and their egg rolls are ok. I ordered General Tso's one of the first times I got take out and it was delicious. The chicken was all white meat and it was strips of chicken instead of the roundish chunks of chicken you usually get. So I ordered it again the next time and it was different. It was the round chunks of chicken w brown meat here and there and just wasn't that good. I ended up trying it again to see if they resorted back to the delicious strips but they didn't so I won't order it again. I usually order take out but I do enjoy dining in there. They have a cozy/cool atmosphere. It's byob which is great. Service is good.

Torn. In the area, this place appears to be one of the better places. On the other hand, it isn't very authentic - very american-ized. Heavy sauces and saltiness permeated every dish. I see potential in their menu and was actually fairly optimistic, but things seem to just fall short. Oh, and our waiter wreaking of smoking didn't exactly help. He was polite and attentive but the odor made me cough. On the positive side, the environment was nice and friendly. Very laid back. Obviously, the place is popular with the locals...

Went on Christmas day, so can't say much about normal conditions/atmosphere, but it was initially OK at 3pm, then got really busy, crowded and loud, as it's an older building without a very large seating area. (Think it used to be bigger in other incarnations of this restaurant.) Tea was on the table when we met our party, but we were never asked if we wanted more. Just constantly being asked by no less than 5 runners if we wanted more water. Fiancé couldn't get a Diet Coke refill to save his life. The menu is one black and white laminated affair with no photos and vague descriptions. When I asked what kind of sauce was on the Wok-Seared Beef, I was told "brown". Uh, thanks? That kind of service is useless. (And there was no language barrier, so... ) I was expecting more, based on the prices. The steamed pork dumplings were good, with a nicely seasoned dipping sauce. The shrimp/crab shumai were sort of boring, but tender, and the bell pepper flavored dipping sauce was a little weird. The duck spring rolls didn't have much flavor - the duck was totally ground up and nearly undetectable. There was no dipping sauce, but a drizzle was present. The slaw on the side was really good. Didn't meet expectations, though. Bummer. We got plates for apps, but not for dinner. Just our giant entrée platters parked in front of each of the 5 of us, with four small rice mounds on a stainless dish in the middle. Really strange. How were we supposed to share? Were they hoarding dishes somewhere? Was it because our table was too small? I sat at a small, very slanted table shoved on the end of a four-top, personally. Pretty uncomfortable and awkward. Wonton broth was good. Cashew chicken looked good. Didn't taste. The shrimp in lobster sauce... shrimp were good, the sauce was pretty salty, and it has chicken in the dish, which makes no sense to me. The wok-seared beef... nice cuts of beef, well cooked, but didn't seem seared in texture or flavor. It was served with crispy potato strings on top. They looked pretty but didn't belong. The large pile of beef was sitting on top of a bed of raw baby spinach? Also, the "brown" sauce was sweet and I don't understand why. Eew. The House Singapore Rice Noodles with curry didn't meet expectations. It had hardly any meat and featured mini-shrimp, and an almost-indiscernible curry whiff. Meh. The shrimp with asparagus looked very nice, and the asparagus was fresh and pretty. The accompanying sauce was good. We had an unfortunate "eat it and beat it" moment when we were finished our dinner and were asked if there would be anything else. We said, uhm, yeah. Dessert. WTF, are you kidding? It's Christmas - what kind of treatment is this? My guess is that the rude boy was worried about rolling reservations. The desserts that they actually had weren't great. They were out of more than half of them and it wasn't even 5pm. Again, WTF? The crispy cookies were tasteless tubes, the green tea and ginger ice creams were authentic-seeming, but a little strangely flavored and not very sweet. The restroom was a pee-smelling hodge-podge of decor and stinky potpourri beads. The beautiful blown-glass ceiling art feature in the rear dining room was CAKED in dust that I could see from the front room. The front door was slamming and letting cold air in the entire time. The super-busy take-out involved the phone ringing often and loudly, and a cluster of people milling around the reception/host desk. There will be no hurrying back.

This was our second time I always give a second chance before saying anything negative. Way to "Foo Foo"! It's fine and dandy to try and put your own spin on things but straying to far from the base line you will vanish with the fad! I just came back from the west coast where just about every place is putting their own spin on thing and the west coast seems to have it mastered this place doesn't ! The vegetables in the dishes were fresh but barley cooked if at all and the seafood seemed to be on the verge of spoiling. Seafood should never smell like a low end fish market. Both visits the service was non existent and the cleanliness of the place is lacking and probably why it's so dark and not for atmosphere. I may seem very critical but when you have something to compare it to this place has a long way to go before it approaches good.

this is a fantastic BYOB. Atmosphere for dining in is nice and relaxed. On a busy night you will wait, so call ahead. Wait staff is very nice and its small enought that you do not get lost int he mix. We do takeout regularly and can not complain at all, there are many solid selections on the menu and specials that are always pleasing.

I was attempting to enjoy a nice authentic Chinese cuisine when I took one bite of my food and suddenly had to rush to the bathroom. My IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) was in full effect and causing me to twist in pain. I had to lay in birthing positions to try to alleviate the stress. Finally I layed on the dirty bathroom floor to stretch out my intestines. This was all due to the undercooked chicken I ate. I clogged the toilet and despite the sign telling me to notify a worker in case that happens which means it clearly happens a lot, I was too embarrassed! Throughout my meal my waiter stared at me as if he knew I almost broke the bathroom. I was sure he was going to jab me with his chopsticks.

The pan seared pork dumplings were very good. We were sadly sat next to the wait station and could still get the gust of wind from the front door every 30 seconds. The children banging around and annoying me at the tables practically touching eachother didn't help the experience. So basically I would eat their food again as take out... Not dine in

I am very confused as to the price point of this place. While, yes, they do serve the best Chinese food in the area, why the heck does it cost so much?! I would steer clear of the more traditional Chinese food only so I can pretend like there is a reason for the high price tag. The reasons for coming here is the ambiance and the less traditional Chinese food. They have some interesting concoctions. I am so disappointed in the Chinese food -- it is about as standard as what I expect from a cheap (but good) Chinese restaurant in NYC's Chinatown, but has the price tag of a high end Chinese restaurant in Shanghai without any of the high end ingredients you'd expect to find.

    (3)
  • Dennis B.

This is not your traditional Chinese restaurant. This is located in a old historic type building without the bright lights and glitz of a traditional Chinese restaurant. The service is always good and the food is very good. I usually tend to order the fish entree. The name may confuse you but is a good stop.

Everyone raves about this place, so we gave it a try. I wasn't too impressed. For the price, I don't feel like you get enough food, and the quality didn't blow me away either. The Shrimp were very...bouncy...? The texture freaked me out. Ew, I'm cringing thinking about it actually. The wait staff wasn't the most polite either. I kind of felt like I was annoying them when I got up to try to find the Soy sauce that never made it to our table? Nice outside seating though on a Spring Day.

Simply put: amazing. We came after 9 on a Saturday night. We got seated right away. Drinks in our hand in the first 5 minutes. For starters, we ordered the lettuce wraps and the philly roll. Both were out of this world, and I would order them time and time again!. Next, the main dishes. I had the pad thai that was amazing and mild with a kick. The grilled chicken dish was also great. I'd come back in a heartbeat. Great food, Great Service!!

After this place was recommended to me, I took to reading through yelp reviews--I was excited to try this great place. The atmosphere is beautiful once you pull yourself through the tight fitting entrance, and the takeout food my husband and I ordered was cooked extremely fast. The food smelled amazing on our drive home, and we couldn't wait to try it. However, that's where the excitement ends. I ordered Pepper Steak and Wonton Soup, which is what I always order to mark the quality of a restaurant (weird, I know, but the cut of steak is so telling, as is the flavor of the sauce, and freshness of the vegetables). I was so, so disappointed. The soup's broth was like warm water, the wonton texture was floury and dry (how?), and the filling wasn't edible. The quality of beef (you cannot consider what I received to be steak) was subpar. It was so chewy and fatty, I couldn't do just that... chew it. The box was filled with red peppers and eggplant(?) pieces, but you'd never have guessed it. There was literally no flavor. It tasted like oily water... no soy flavor, no pepper flavor, no flavor of any sort other than beef. I poured the sauce onto my white rice to try and salvage some food, but it was the same--the sauce was utterly flavorless, and this is coming from someone who loves rather bland food generally. It was just that awful. My husband's dinner, General Tso's, had a good flavor for the sauce, but the chicken quality was again, subpar. He tried the soup and asked me how I even managed to eat as much as I did. Chinese food is my favorite cuisine. My husband's in the military and we've eaten at tons of places all over the country--Duck Sauce isn't at the worst of the list, but it was just not good. I hope it was a fluke, considering the high praise from so many, but if you're going to charge that much for a meal, try not using the scrap bits of meat that get thrown out.

This was the second time that I've tried Duck Sauce and both times I have been disappointed. First, when I called to order take out the hostess did not know much about the food. I ordered extra white rice and she assured me that it came with my meal (when I got home there was no rice) and I ordered the mu shu pork and when I asked how many pancakes it came with she told me 4 (when I got home there were only 2 and way too much pork for only 2 pancakes). Obviously I would have ordered more pancakes if I knew that. The food itself is alright. I've had much better, and when Asian restaurants are a dime a dozen the most important thing is to stand out with exceptional food. Unfortunately Duck Sauce falls short. When I called to speak to a manager in regards to my missing food there was none available so I left a message with the same hostess that took my order. Honestly, I would have left it at that because I don't usually complain and I rarely post reviews. I would simply just never return. But then I received a call back from the teenage hostess stating simply that next time I order that I need to ask for white rice separately (which in fact I did prior to her telling me it came with the noodles I ordered). There was no apology. There was no speaking to the manager. There was no compensation. Obviously, I will never return here and I urge you not to either as there are multiple more authentic and tastierAsian restaurants with better service within a 5-10 mile radius.

If you're a fan of Asian fusion cuisine, then you'll enjoy the way that Duck Sauce prepares and presents the food on your plate. This is certainly not your typical Chinese restaurant. It's nice when you don't need to drive all the way to downtown Philadelphia to enjoy some Chinese fusion. They do a good job balancing the traditional tastes of Chinese food with modern flavors and presentation styles. I like how they add a lot of different vegetables to their main dishes. Brown rice is optional.

This is such a beautiful, clean place. The food is wonderful, there is quite a variety. The staff is incredible, and they make you feel welcome. I enjoy going to Duck Sauce a great deal. It is by far one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Prices are a relative thing, one would expect to pay more for the caliber of food and ambiance you get here. As long as your taste buds are in working order, they will delight in the joy of experiencing what Duck Sauce has to offer.

We order take in from Duck sauce 3-4 times a month. We love the wonton soup, house fried rice and wok-seared beef. The staff is very friendly and service is fast. When you eat in the restaurant, I am always impressed with the food presentation. The food may be on the pricier side, but believe me, it is worth it! They also have some great lunch specials.

Duck Sauce has a bit of a fancier look to it than your average Chinese place, but aside from that I would describe it as thoroughly average. My experience is primarily with take-out orders, so this is all about the food rather than the ambiance. I've found the quality of the meat to be sub-par, which seems to be the way of things with a lot of Chinese food. I suppose because it's heavily sauced, restaurants think they can get away with this without anyone noticing. Well I notice, restaurants, I notice! When encountered with such a problem at a Chinese restaurant, my workaround is to stick to the apps, and this has served me well. It seems to be a thing with Chinese places to have crappy, overpriced entrees and decent, reasonably priced apps. My go to is the hot and sour soup, which is quite good, some crab rangoon (good, not incredible), and egg rolls or spring rolls. By doing this, you can get a ton of good tasting food for two people for about $15. That means this place is A-OK with me! One caveat, I have noticed that the food can be a little inconsistent week to week, but overall it's good.

A friend and I came here for lunch and were absolutely blown away! I've been eating General Tso's Chicken for over 15 years and I'm not joking when I say this is the best I've had. I also had an order of wonton soup which was delicious. The warm broth was perfectly soothing for such a cold day. My friend had the Wok-seared Beef which delighted him as well. All in all, the best restaurant if it's kind locally.

This place has the best Chinese food in Newtown / bucks county area. The pan fried dumplings are amazing. Really good for lunch cause the menu is basically half the price and you get the same amount of food. Hope this helps!

It's definitely more upscale than your standard "Chinese take-out." The presentation of the food and the atmosphere is equivalent of a 5-star place, but the food is still heavy, and makes you feel fat and bloated, none-the-less.

  • Noah R.

The good is awesome. It is a treat once on a while. You can't go wrong. This is not your typical chineae food. Be prepared for Asian fusion and to spend more money. My fav is the black and white sesame seed chicken. Great staff. Usually we get to go, often ask for extra sauce. Try their sweet and sour sauce they call duck sauce. It is red. My girls love it. Friendly folks. It is a Byob and parking on the street or in the white barn is your best bet. Barn is a tight squeeze.

It's typical Americanized Chinese food here. As a Chinese, not a big fan of their food. Portion is big, but the sauce is just too thick and salty. Don't know why Chinese food here in America need that much starch in the sauce.

My boyfriend and I tried this out on 1/23. Standard tea and won ton crunchies were ok. Same old same old. Won ton soup was light but good, 4 won tons per small bowl surprisingly. I had the Grilled Citrus Soy Chicken - flavors were good but boring. Not worth $14 He had General's Chicken - large globs of dough covered chicken dripping in sauce. He only at 3 of them. Service was slow and it seemed like all the employees were eating while we were there at 2:30pm right after opening. Overall, it wasn't a complete failure but we won't be returning. Our check came to about $35 for 2 soups and 2 mains. If you want inventive Asian dining try Elements Asia in Lawrenceville, NJ!

Not just an average Chinese food place. The wok beef was excellent and chicken w lemon and capers really good also have tried the orange beef with sundries tomato. Was starred as spicy but I would have asked for more spice. A little noisy because of close quarters but food is good have been there twice Calamari is excellent

High Quality! That is the first thing that comes to my mind when describing Duck Sauce. I ordered fried rice, chicken and broccoli and pork steamed dumplings. The pork dumplings were by far the best I have ever eaten... (getting hungry just thinking about them). The chicken and broccoli was different than what I am used to, and was a touch on the bland side. Both the chicken and the broccoli in the dish were very fresh tasting and real! (Chinese place with real looking and tasting chicken...WOW) The fried rice was very tasty. I look forward to trying more dishes here and will be back soon!

Hands down the best restaurant in the burbs. The hot and sour soup is fantastic and the orange beef is a must for first timers. The pineapple fried rice with smoked shrimp and scallop is awesome. The grilled chicken in citrus sauce is delicious. I have honestly not had below-great meal here. The service is great as the staff is very friendly. Plus it's a byob! I wish this restaurant was in the city!

Hands-down one of the best places to eat in Newtown. First, it's BYOB, score. They've got two menus: Chinese and Eurasian. Chinese, you know what you get. A massive plate of food, and all of it's good. But the real stars are on the Eurasian menu. Here the food is beautifully arranged on the plate with delicious sauces. My favorite is the shrimp and scallops combo with pineapple rice. Delicious. They've also got a mean wonton soup. If you're in Newtown for lunch, this is a great place to know. You get a pot of tea, fried noodles, soup, and entree for about $13. Insane!

I never knew Newtown, PA was such a happening place (or maybe it's the lack of happening that leads everyone to go out on a Saturday night). Anyways, on a recent trip to the 'burbs to visit a friend we were left without reservations and plans and looking for some place to go that could fit in a group of 5. We had a preference for BYO as that's the way we like to roll in the Quaker State of PA and after being turned away by an hour wait elsewhere we were happy that Duck Sauce was able to fit us in. My friend had driven by before and thought this place might be closed but it seems it just sends off that vibe as they keep the lights in the dining room dim to heighten the mood. This place was any place but closed though as despite the dim lights it was hustlin' and bustlin' in there. Our waitress was funny and very helpful. I asked her what the best tofu dish and she pointed me to the pine nut tofu which she advertised had a good amount of veggies and was very tasty. I was real lucky for the recommendation as this was exactly what I was looking for and would have passed over the seemingly boring idea of pine nut tofu for what I would think would be more exciting options. The dish though was flavorful and served over a bed of spinach and if it's good for Popeye it ought to be good for me. The meal came out to a very affordable amount for 5 people which probably comes again from the benefit of BYOB.

This is a decentPF Chang's/Americanized Chinese food establishment. Is it authentic? Not quite but the dishes here are okay. The steamed sea bass with ginger and scallion was fresh (although the soy-sesame sauce was a tad bland) and the rack of lamb was tender and well-seasoned. The roast duck was overcooked though and the sauce was almost sickeningly sweet. I'll stick to Sang Kee for my duck next time, thank you very much. The chicken lettuce wraps were on par with Chang's. We also decided to try a spicy tuna roll, which was just okay. The spicy sauce was a little off. Service was friendly if a little on the slow side.

I like Duck Sauce. 4 of us had a very nice dinner tonight. I especially enjoy a BYOB! Appetizers are all very good! Shrimp with lime cream sauce was good but not good enough to order again. I suppose if this restaurant were in the city...I may have given 3 stars but it works well in Newtown. My Hubby ordered the crispy golden chicken and that was delicious! I would order that again! My egg roll was excellent! Service was a little sloppy...3 out of 4 dishes came out but we waited for the 4th. We got up a few times to take a place setting off another table and an extra tea cup too. This should not of happened since the restaurant was not busy. Atmosphere is very nice, more of a trendy Pan Asian restaurant...not your typical local Chinese restaurant. I do recommend if you are in Newtown.

WISH THIS RESTAURANT IS IN NEW YORK CITY!!! I am a serious foodie and LOVE this restaurant. I can eat here every day... It is super tasty and clean, not like your standard greasy Chinese food and the decors are not bad. I am a small dish "tapas" eater, so most of my favorites are the apps... from the thin-skin wonton in gingery chicken broth (heavenly) to crispy seafood spring roll, to plump and juicy shrimp/crab shumai w pimento dipping sauce, Chicken lettuce wrap and pine nuts and the unbelievable spicy salmon sushi rolls (and they do brown rice when it is not so busy), tuna sashimi salad is another hit...and I do love fish, so when I have more friends with me, I'll go for the super fresh steamed sea bass with ginger and scallion or the miso glazed Chilean sea bass, also rack of lamb is sublime. They also have a creamy but not too sweet creme brulee that they make in house, a perfect ending. If you are near this place, just go and EAT!

Duck Sauce is pretty much the only Asian fusion place I've been that was worth a damn. The decor is nice, about what you'd expect, but rather than bland japanese food or gussied up takeout fare, the food served at Duck Sauce was well prepared, unusual, and flavorful as all get-out. I started with the spicy thai seafood soup. It was rich, spicy, and excellent all around. The spice built slowly, it wasn't noticeable at first but was exactly right by the end. My entree was the roasted duck in port wine plum sauce. This was by far the best duck I've ever had. The sauce was a tad sweet, but the duck was cooked so well I didn't care. They even asked me how I wanted it cooked, which, I mean, how often does THAT happen with duck? This place is tremendous, in my opinion. The whole menu was varied, inventive, and exactly what I wanted. Large portions, too!

The food is amazing. The best chinese asian fusion food in the area. Prices are good. Service is good. Overall experience was excellent. I would definitely go back.

Best chinese/asian food in the area! My fiance and I have our go-to items...calamari, beef and garlic, and the sesame chicken. Duck Sauce is a great place, BYOB, and the food is awesome!

As far as asian fusion, this place has it all. Order the pine nut tofu, you won't be disappointed. The hot and sour soup is the best that I have ever had. The service is good at it's BYOB. You can't really beat it.

"Upscale" Asian dining that tries but falls a bit short. If you like PF Chang's, you will probably like this establishment. If you're looking for more old school Chinatown authentic, then perhaps this is not for you, at least not so much for me. The Shrimp Spring roll as an appetizer was passable in that the cabbage stuffing with a few shrimp was well seasoned, the wrapper was the typical thick egg roll. Entrees: Roasted Duck from the Eurasian menu (duck was cooked well but primarily based in soy sauce without much depth to the sauce. While it was plated with a cabbage-- the cabbage was also cooked in soy sauce, so lacked balance." Chicken with Eggplant (Chinese menu)-- oh dear, another brown sauce. Hoisin this time. The chicken breast slices were stir fried perfectly and the eggplant was good well. It was stir fried with scallions which were not quite strong enough to balance the hoisin sauce. The straw that broke the camel's back...the service that was indifferent and abrupt on a Sunday evening. Didn't stay for dessert, are you surprised?

Spent thousands over the years holding birthday parties, ordering 30 dollar lamb chops and all that, and they got the nerve to question my tip one time and try to embarrass me in front of my party on why I gave a tip they weren't happy with: "That's all you're leaving me?" was the quote..and the times when they didnt have enough wine glasses for us, without any reason..come on now..way overpriced, nothing special..3 stars cause outside of those incidents the food is ok, but again, whatever, nothing special.

Thick oily food. Some of it tasted okay, but nothing special. Not a great meal for the summertime. Our meal was interrupted by some ridiculously loud customers at a large table that apparently management could not control, even after multiple requests. Would not return.

Went back tonight (NYE 2009) and decided to dine in - had the house fried rice again, the chili smoked shrimp and scallops, and the jumbo shrimp in garlic sauce. I've already commented on the house fried rice. The chili smoked shrimp and scallops we phenomenal. It was on the higher side of the price board for Duck Sauce, but it was very well executed. The smoke flavor imparted was strong, but not overpowering by any means. The shrimp and scallops were cooked perfectly. The jumbo shrimp in garlic sauce was also very good. Spiced just enough to have attitude, but not replace "flavor" with just heat. The veg mix was OK, mostly zucchini and onions, with a hint of red pepper, snow pea, celery, and scallion. Oddly, there was a single 2" piece of asparagus. Unfortunately, when we first arrived, there was a YUPPIE mom berating her daughter about her """life choices""" at the only other occupied table in the place - the one next to us. But they soon departed. My only complaint about the interior is that it's a bit dark for my liking - I prefer to be able to see more of what I'm eating. The staff was courteous and attentive, and the young lady manning the front counter recalled my last visit. Once again, a great visit. I am trying to get some pics up, but Yelp* is complaining that my PNGs are not a suitable format o_0 The dining room: twitpic.com/w3j28 The dining: twitpic.com/w3jqx Groovy chandelier in the back dining area: twitpic.com/w3jzd

One of the most successfully executed and broadly appealing Asian fusion menus in the area, mated with a casual, din-filled family-style atmosphere. Certainly not Susanna Foo's, but that's not the intent - and critically measured beside other Chinese in the area, head-and-shoulders above. Well-located at the foot of Newtown borough near the bypass, Duck Sauce could easily be an almost daily lunch or casual dinner spot.

Duck Sauce is located on a very quaint street in Newtown, in an what might have been an old home long ago. They have a very tight parking lot behind it, as well as street parking. I am not a fan of Asian food, but this place is quite good. The only times I have been there has been with large groups and they accommodated us quite well. The service is good. The decor needs some updating. You can bring your own wine and they will assist you with it. I do suggest that you make reservations, as they can get quite busy.

Not all Chinese eatery's are created equal and this place is a cut above the rest for the tasty cuisine they serve up! I'm very partial to the Gen. Tso chicken either as a black sesame serving or the traditional type and both are available. Not really comparable to PF's in any sense but to each her own. I have been dining here for the past 7 years and found every dish to be full, meaty and the the vegetables crisp. My litmus test is the chicken dishes fat content which if you eat out for Chinese you will Inevitably get those fatty pieces, but not here for some reason...and that's a good thing. I recommend lunch for the best prices as the dinner menu can giddy up and go without too much effort. Ohh and it's BYOB. FYI: the wine store is across the street, down through a little alley way which leads to a parking lot....which is actually a good place to park as the lot at the Duck Sauce is a bit tight. Beer store also there as well.

This place is really good! Actually one of the beat chinese places in town. Since all the other ones are horrible! The chicken corn egg drop soup is amazing! The corn is so fresh and the soup is flavorful! Also the shrimp egg roll is one of the best I've ever had! I have gotten the duck spring rolls ( which were overcooked and greasy and has 2 little strands of duck neat in it. They should of just called it veggie roll) My only complaint about Duck Sauce is that they are WAY to expensive. If they were a little cheaper I'd be coming Here more often.

Call me crazy but I like Duck Sauce. Nice size portions and tasty sauces. I like the duck and wok seared beef quite a bit. The dining room is ho-hum. This is a "lets put the kids to bed and get some good take out" spot.

Hadn 't been here in a few months...just seems to have slipped off the weekend rotation. Food and service were both great. I had a nice Pad Thai from the specials menu and my wife had a noodle dish with curry from the regular menu. Enough left over from both for at least two more meals. BYOB.

Love this place! I hadn't been there in about 8 years, but I suggested it for a family dinner. Everyone (even the pickiest amongst us) LOVED it! The atmosphere is a bit fancy, not exactly a jeans n tee shirt place, but the prices are very reasonable. We ordered from the Chinese menu, but the other side of the menu is Eurasian. Everything we ordered was delicious. The standouts were the Shrimp Tempura Roll and the Spicy Pineapple Rice. I shared my meal with my daughter and we still have enough for leftovers. The service was friendly as well. I really can't wait to go back and try more of their dishes. I definitely recommend this place for anyone who's looking for a pleasant surprise.

I liked it a lot. Was a little hard to find and parking kind of sucked. The shimp tempura roll was a little wierd. Very good taste and presentation, but it didn't seem like it was a tempura batter. Seemed like the shimp was breaded and fried. Missing the crunch that I love so much. I got the house Pad thai. The meat and shimp were of really good quality. Noodles were cooked well. The issue I had with it was the sauce. It seemed pre-made. Like it was out of a can. You can go to any asian market and get better sauce. My wife got fish that she loved. I wish I could remember more about it.

Duck Sauce is one of the best restaurants in the area, and there are not a lot of those. + Great contemporary and traditional menus. + Every appetizer is great. No joke, I've had most of them and not one has disappointed + I haven't seen a bad entree yet, but that may be because I so often cave and get the General's Chicken, which is terrific and a bit different from what you typically get + The table tea is great + Presentation is creative + Prices are reasonable - Service is often on the slow side - No liquor license (but you can bring your own bottle) - Limited seating; parking can be annoying

I had such high hopes for this restaurant. But it let me down as the meal progressed. Sitting on State Street in an unassuming location with no lit sign, Duck Sauce is a cute, well designed restaurant inside. Not casual; kind of like a PF Chang's fusion place, but on a family-owned non-chain scale. The menu is huge. Maybe too many choices. I got food to go for 3 of us on a recent business trip. The hostess was very helpful and friendly. Once I got the food out though, there were mixed reviews. Appetizers: 1) Pot Stickers: Good. Big portion and fresh, good pork filling. 2) Won Ton Soup: Also good. Good wontons, nice broth. 3) Chicken Wraps: Looked good but were blah. They were barely nibbled on. Entrees: 1) Broccoli Beef: Looked good but it was very blah. No flavor. Good quality meat and it was fresh, but it was just way too - well, blah! Came with a huge thing of rice. 2) Chicken with Vegetables: Looked OK. My co-worker ate it but didn't give any real feedback. I didn't try it. 3) Spicy Tuna Roll: not spicy and not very interesting. Only touched two of 8 pieces. 4) Chicken Chow Mein: Wouldn't know because my order got messed up. I got some sort of Chicken with veggies only it was mostly onions and it was slimy and gross. Duck Sauce is definitely a wannabe. Unfortunately. Nice restaurant atmosphere and (somewhat) good appetizers. But just plain BLAH.

To quote Kurt S., "Duck Sauce is pretty much the only Asian fusion place I've been that was worth a damn". The food is not the usual fare and that's a good thing. While I don't love all the flavors, I do love the fact that each ingredient is fresh. Never bored with Duck Sauce. Oh yeah, the staff is always friendly and accommodating.

I like this place! First walk in it looks like an upscale Asian restaurant, til you look at the menu and prices. Looks a bit like any other Chinese restaurant, complete with good prices. But WOW when the food shows up at the table, the presentation can rival any NYC or LA top of the line cuisine! The portions were not family style, but plated for one person. The portion size was just a smidgen smaller than if you got it in a white to-go container, but you didn't miss the extra few bites. I'm thinking dress is a bit more than casual, although my husband and I walked in wearing jeans - they did not kick us out! I also think the prices are reasonable, with more simple dishes falling under $12 and the chef specials a bit more.

Better takeout spot than out to dinner spot as the dining room is small, cramped during peak hours, and in need of a makeover. That being said, dynamite little find in the 'burbs. If you are a local, I recommend calling in an order of the Chile Smoke Shrimp & Scallop ($22), getting yourself an additional small order ($6)of the spicy pineapple rice as the amount that comes with the above dish is just a tease and it's delicious, and then getting the wok seared beef or orange beef sundried tomato ($14). That's right, bitches!.. you just went Surf & Turf for 2 for $36 bucks!!.. now on your way over to pick up your choice eats, make a stop at the Newtown Liquor Store and get a $12 bottle of Chateau St. Michelle Riesling (perfect chinese/asian takeout wine).. Now you're about 50 bucks lighter, but you and your wife or significant other are having a nice meal at home w/o having to cook, having a couple glasses a wine each, and there's hardly any dishes to clean up.. so ya know, shit bodes well.

Duck Sauce is probably my favorite Newtown Restaurant. I've never had a bad meal at this place, and I can always find something different on the menu to try that I've never had before. Plus the room is nice inside (even if its a little small, be prepared for a wait on the weekends). The great thing is that they have all the traditional Chinese stuff (The Won Ton Soup is fantastic), but they also have a more contemporary fusion type menu that will please most suburban foodies who don't feel like travelling to the city to get quality food. One of my favorite dishes is the Shan Shien Sizzling Rice dishes that come out smoking hot with your choice of Shrimp, Beef, or Chicken with mixed veggies. The basic Chicken and Broccoli is also really good and comes with a better quality of Chicken than most Chinese places usually have. Also be sure to try the Duck Spring Rolls, they kick ass. It's all so good! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
