This place is a cute little restaurant that has been around for almost 20 years. It's sort of hidden though, Cafe Con Leche is in the basement of the blue building near Isaac Newtons. They share the same parking lot too. It is small, but the place is worth it. They have a section right by the front door with high tables, and your standard tables in the back. The food is really good, especially for any vegetarians and vegans out there. The different seitan entrees are all pretty remarkable (I think they call it cheitan there because of someone named Charlie... but don't quote me). I am not a vegan, but I think I like that part of the menu better than the regular portion. All in all, Cafe Con Leche is a nice little spot in Newtown if you are looking for something a bit different.

This was a tasty bite. My meal started with a sweet potato/jalapeño soup, followed by orange duck, and finished with an Argentinian Chocolate Cake accompanied with a Café con Leche. This dinner stop did lived up to its reviews. The restaurant is a cute quaint establishment. Their menu has numerous traditional choices, vegetarian dishes, and gluten free options. The soup was hearty, the entree was well executed, to include the potato mash and grilled vegetables. This chocolate cake slice was massive and pretty unique. It had layered puff pasty and dulce de leche. I'm kind of picky with my coffee and this café con leche was spot on. So sad I'm in town for only a few days, I would love to go back and try other item from their menu. Good Job Café con Leche!

Great menu and awesome fresh food! The vegan options are plenty and the daily specials menu has several vegan offerings. I had the mole vegan burrito and it was an absolute mouth orgasm! Sandi had the stir fry with Blackened Seitan and linguine and Sis had Penne and Broccoli. Rave reviews from all. Will definitely hit here every time I visit my Sister!

With a vegan husband the search for places to eat to please a group have been tricky, so we were thrilled to find this gem in Newtown. I ordered off the specials menu and had seared tuna that was bold (zingy) and perfectly done. My hubby orders the Seiten and he says it was really good...great marinade, pleasant texture (not dry!) We had two vegan desserts, a chocolate cake that everyone said "that's Vegan?!" And a berry cobbler that was ok - good but nothing special. We will definitely be going back.

Absolutely LOVE cafe con leche. My wife and I go there at least once a weak including tonight. Their soups are delicious and hearty. Sweet potato jalapeño, sweet potato energy are among 2 of our favorites. Chilean salmon with pico de gallo with rice and grilled vegetables. This is a home run spot for a family or date. Never had a bad meal there. They also have the most rich and yummy Cesar salad with blackened chicken or shrimp. Also recommend fajitas and vegetable stir fry. You won't be disappointed. It's a BYOB so you can also bring a bottle of wine if you like. Make this a regular!

This place has excellent food and many people don't even recognize where it is giving it a really cool small town exclusive feel. It's BYOB which is a plus, and although it is tiny, they have a great menu featuring a lot of interesting dishes.

I love food from here. I love their vegetarian options. And the soups are great, definitely something to try. Averagely priced for this area. Food is always fresh and delicious.

How lucky are we to have been taken to this little hole in the wall (literally) by our Pennsylvania cousins! Not many places can please both vegetarians/vegans and "others", you know who you are :), but this place does just that. This review will only discuss the vegetarian items, but I can tell you the meat-eaters were plenty satisfied as well. We started our meal with the Sweet Potato Energy soup. It didn't particularly taste or look like it was made with sweet potatoes as the color was much darker than I had expected, but it was packed with flavor and perfect for a cold night. Mr. M Bethens had one of the specials - a tofu butterfly something or other - that was a work of art: black bean encrusted tofu served with mushrooms and caramelized onions over mashed potatoes with a crispy tortilla on top, drizzled with balsamic vinegar. I opted for a simpler dish - pasta with kale and mushrooms - that was very garlicky and delicious. No time for dessert but we'll be sure to stop by again when we are in town.

As a vegan with an Meat eating fiancé I was so excited to go to a place with a full vegan menu and a "regular" menu. I've been dying to try it and I finally got a chance last night. The special vegan saffron pasta with cashew cream sauce was amazing. And the energy sweet potato soup was delicious. The service was fast and courteous. I only wished I lived closer and I'd there all the time! Can't wait to go back!

I just moved into the neighborhood and my girlfriend was showing me around town, and we decided to stop into Cafe con Leche for a light lunch. Now, I come from the dining metropolis that is Collingswood, New Jersey - so I warned her, that I was used to only the finest cuisines available to man, Cafe con Leche had better be on point, or else my palate would not be satisfied. I ordered the pear and walnut salad, which was good - unfortunately the chicken on it was extremely, (how should I put it?) GRODY. I chewed on it and spit it out, it seemed raw but was not pink. It seemed as if it were frozen and / or microwaved. The server noticed this and asked if the chicken was not good - she was nice and managed to get it taken off of our check. My lady friend never received her Cafe con Leche, due to the owner (who was the only one who knew how to make it) being on the phone for the entirety of our dining excursion. Bottom line.. Our server was nice, but the food was fairly gnarly, and we felt ignored.

This is definitely a hidden gem in Newtown. Tucked away behind some shops, it's hard to find but definitely worth the effort. The soups--absolutely incredible. Flavorful, unique, inviting, and certainly homemade; you can tell. Fajitas--on-point and well-executed. Definitely try the steak. Salads--get the blackened chicken! The salads are loaded with quality fresh veggies and are served with the house-made balsamic dressing which is to die for (I've even taken a quart to go on occasion). Desserts--carrot cake is out of this world. Definitely worth it. You get a massive piece and it is extremely moist. Have to dock a star for occasional slow service, dark environment, and cramped seating. This isn't exactly a place you'd want to bring a bunch of people, as there's just not a lot of room. Food, though, is 5/5.

I'm a vegetarian, basically a vegan. It's difficult to find a restaurant where both vegetarians and carnivores can eat. No, French fries doesn't count as vegetarian. I got kale and portabella mushroom with pasta from their entirely vegan menu, and my parents got fradiablo with chicken and shrimp and rice, shrimp, and vegetables. We all liked our meals. For any vegetarians, you have to come here! You have so many options! And you can come with meat eaters. I had never been in here before, and I wasn't sure where it was but my friend said it was great.

Cafe con leche is awesome. I'm not a vegan but love that they offer a vegan menu as an option. Their black bean burger salad, soups, and chai teas are my favorite things to get here. Would highly recommend this place to anyone!

I've lived in the Newtown area my entire life and can't believe it took me so long to find out about this place! The atmosphere is pretty unappealing-it's in a basement and feels like one, but the food and service makes up for it. That being said, it's casual and BYOB. They have an extensive all vegan menu and a lot of vegetarian options as well, in addition to meat and fish options for the omnivores. I ate from the vegan menu and everything was great. My boyfriend had a tilapia dish and enjoyed his meal just as much as I did mine. Will definitely be returning. This is a must visit restaurant for vegetarians and vegans! You'll be amazed at all the choices!

First time here and it certainly will not be the last! Had a delicious caesar salad followed by a phenomenal cajun tilapia sandwich. Excellent service as well!

Good attempt at a Vegan menu. They have some meat/seafood dishes, too, which veer to Mediterranean palette. The location is a little quirky, but that adds to the charm. The service, however, is pitiful. Servers literally will come back giggling that they've forgotten your order. Most have no clue as to the nature of the menu, and will leave glasses unfilled, plates unremoved, etc. Orders take a while to come through, too, which is a little unusual. So, a decent option if you're looking for good food but not necessarily pick on the totality of the experience.

Great food and cosy atmosphere but the service is consistently bad...don't go here unless you have time to sit and wait but want good food. Make sure you try their house dressing, it's excellent

This is a small, quaint wonderful little place that serves flavorful foods that you're not likely to find elsewhere in Newtown. If you enjoy trying some new flavors and are conscious about your health, then you'll want to check out their menu and give this place a try. Not ideal for huge parties since the restaurant has fairly limited seating.
