My friends wanted food before the fireworks so we chose this pub/restaurant.They have a good selection of beers and dinner. it was crowded on a Friday night before fireworks, but, we had friendly and prompt service and they thought food was very good. Also the bread and crab dip while waiting for food was scrumptious. We will come back.

I live locally and always have high hopes when I go here to eat and I'm always disappointed. Hungry, tonight I tried a burger and it seriously looked and tasted like a frozen burger patty. My boyfriend loves it here, but the menu items just aren't appealing to me. Maybe I'm missing something? My drink wasn't bad though. I'd be okay with drinks only here. Update: We got our check and we were charged more than was listed on the menu. If they updated their prices, they should update their menus too.

Met family and friends for dinner on a Saturday night. The place was PACKED- bar and dining room. It was very noisy, and very tight on room (like, you get bumped every time someone in the restaurant gets up) But, hey, good for McShea's- it's a thriving bar/Restaurant on a Saturday night! I read a bunch of reviews before going here, and I was honestly nervous about going. People called it dirty, and had a lot of little quibbles about different things. But, I was pleasantly surprised. I don't know if I would call it dirty, but it did have the feeling of being "broken in", if you know what I mean. )Maybe if the place was empty, I'd have had more chance to see the dirt.) As far as the food went, I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and thought it was delicious (crispy fries and all)! The menu is pretty much a typical bar/pub menu, and if you go there expecting a gourmet meal, you may be disappointed. But, if you are looking for bar food done really well, I'd recommend McShea's. We were really impressed with the waitress, BTW. She was so busy, and she really had it together. Although she had little time to chit-chat, she anticipated every need we could have had, and really stayed ahead of the game. Overall, everyone at our table was happy with their meals (not sure if my parents were thrilled with the noise and jostling). I'd definitely go back, but maybe on a weeknight?

This food is seriously good. Had the lamb sliders. 3 kinds of da bomb with a mountain of bomb fries. Buffalo wings, best I've had in a while and a huge portion. I was super excited the whole tim.

I LOVE this place! The 50 beer challenge is a brilliant idea, I love trying new beers and getting rewarded for it, so I am definitely a fan. The food was okay and it wasn't the cleanest, but the awesome vibe and cool bartenders make up for it. I can't wait to go back.

This pub has a brick wall and a bar that runs the length of the pub as well as a dining area in the back. McShea's definitely feels like an Irish pub. It's got the decor, and the noise level is high. The service is friendly and laid back (they won't rush you). I think the appetizers are a bit overpriced to be worth it, and if you don't get an appetizer, they'll bring you bread, crackers, and crab dip on the house, which is actually quite good. As far as the food goes, I'm a fan. Their crab cakes are really good and come with sweet potato fries (and dipping sauce) steamed veggies, and coleslaw. Their fish and chips are right up there with some of the best I've had. Wonderful fish flavor, crispy and flaky, and a good portion size. Their burgers are also really good. The beer selection at McShea's is excellent. They've got over 50 bottled beers including beers from Victory, Bell's, Avery, Chimay, Ommegang, Stone, Samuel Smith's, Smuttynose, Magic hat, Rogue, Sierra Nevada, and Anchor Steam - I'm in heaven. The only complaints I've got about McShea's are their lunch menu and dessert selection. Their lunch menu is kind of limited and boring, and as for dessert, one night I was there, they only had one dessert offered, and the other night, they had two. Both desserts were store-quality (not gourmet-quality dessert like you can find at the nearby Pub of Penn Valley). Despite these complaints, McShea's is a solid 4 stars.

I have to say reading the other reviews I thought...what? So, the first time I went with a friend it was wintertime and it was bloody cold. The heat wasn't working properly. Not easy to eat with your gloves on and I'd have to say that it may have colored my experience. So, we decided to go back on a warmer day. Headed there for lunch. Found a nice booth in the rear by the window...with a torn screen AND a dead fly. Not good. Our server came quickly enough. Lunch menu not elaborate but decent selection for pub food. We ordered - burgers & a turkey club. Our drinks came. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. It was not particularly busy. Our server made sure our drinks were filled but offered nothing in the way of food updates. Finally, 30 minutes later, our food arrives. Fries are those typical batter-coated food service type. Burgers were OK. Turkey club was served on half-burnt toast. The food was decent and the service moderately attentive however the kitchen was way slow and the quality of the food just didn't warrant any kind of raves. Combine that with one freezing experience and one dead fly experience and I'd say we probably won't bother with a trip back.

Great fries (make sure you ask for the bourbon mayo dip!!) Good beer selection.... also have some tripels and dubbels (bottled). It's usually kind of crowded, but I kind of like it-- gives it a homey feel! Definitely my favorite bar in Narberth! Although, to be honest, I haven't checked out the bar right across from McShea's (that's connected to the place that sells craft beer) but it sounds really rowdy in there when I stop by that craft beer place sometimes! Good food, good beer, what more could you ask for?

Went with the wife for date night to get a few beers and a burger (my yardstick for civilization). Ordered my usual; burger, medium, cheddar, bacon, and a fried egg. Objective review is as follows: 1. 1 star for friendly staff. Got drinks, ordered, and got food promptly. 2. 1 star for good beer menu. Craft beer selection was good. 3. 1 star for good food. Burger was huge, cooked properly, and seasoned well. 4. 1 star for the fried egg. I dont believe any establishment deserves to be in business if they cant figure out a way to overcharge a customer for an egg. There are many places like this, especially in the suburbs. McShea's didnt seem familiar with egg-on-the-burger concept, but they delivered on a properly cooked egg (could have been 2, not sure, it was huge.) There you have it folks, best in Narberth so far.

Located in the heart of Narberth, you'll find this neighborhood watering hole. Started at the bar and grabbed a bottle of Amstel Light as the draft list didn't excite me (not a fan of hoppy beers). As my friends arrived we decided to move to a table to eat. I ordered steamed littleneck clams as an appetizer(not only did they arrive late but at first they were raw plus I did not get butter. Bread to dip in the broth was not great but the free crab dip for the table was great with crackers). Had an unimpressive Caesar salad with shrimp. The people I was with seemed to like their food. Its a good bar with a better-than-average menu. Service was good considering we had a large party.

Regular hole in the wall bar (not that there is anything wrong with that) in Narbeth. Narbeth has a cute litlte twony area to walk around in. Narrow entry way which leads to an open dining area. We sat at the bar near the entrance and what was odd was that we say the service staff carrying food from outside the bar to inside to serve to the patrons. Not sure I really understand why that happened. They do offer a wide range of beer, which for me is always good :) We ordered the sweet potato fries which were delicious. They have cinnamon on them and came with, what I think, was a sour cream type dip (not all the crazy about the dip). Bar service was fast and friendly :)

Cool pub with descent food and a solid beer selection on the main strip in Narberth. Cheesesteaks are solid, I wish the wings were a little better, but they certainly aren't bad. Also, great spot to watch a game. McShea's has a great neighborhood feel and a classic pub vibe; brick walls, long bar, tight booths, dimly lit, vintage signs on the walls, very cool spot.

I love my dive bars and I'm lucky enough to be able to seek them out all over the country. Based on Yelp reviews McShea's has been on my list for a while. So I stopped in on Monday around 3 PM. It was an odd time and I was the fifth patron in the place. The atmosphere meets all the dive bar standards. It's a little beat up. It's a little dark. It's a little cluttered. The employees I spotted were a little scruffy. It is definitely a divey place. My scruffy bartender was cute and quickly served me an Avery White Rascal draft. It came from one of about ten taps. The beer list is impressive, especially the bottle selection. Beer aficionados will be delighted. Unfortunately cute was the bartender's best trait. Part of a bartender's job, especially when it's slow, is to engage the customers. At this she failed miserably and I hate that! Maybe it was because I was not a regular. She did a nice job of keeping me from becoming one. It seemed that my fellow Yelpers liked the Chicken Quesadillas ($10) so I gave one a try. It was huge, hot and excellent. It was packed with big chunks of chicken. The side of BBQ sauce was unusual but tasty. It's a good thing it was great because the bartender never bothered to ask. I liked the atmosphere, liked the beer and loved the food. The bartender turned me off so I'm going three stars instead of what should have been a four star experience.

Narberth has a lot of options, but McShea's was our first go-to place. I really enjoy the food, especially the complimentary bread and crab dip appetizer. My husband prefers the Greeks across the street because of their craft beer options, but if you have a group that includes drinkers that are not beer fans, McShea's is a safer choice. It's a great place to meet up with friends, but it can get very loud and crowded during peak hours; if you want a quieter experience, just go at off-hours (it's almost like a different restaurant). The only item I was unsatisfied with was their crab cakes. However, I lived in Baltimore for six years, so my expectations may be too high for a Philly suburb joint.

Came here last night for Quizzo with colleagues. It's a standard, divey neighborhood bar in most respects, but with a decent menu. I ordered pork tenderloin and it was well-flavored, though a tad overcooked. Our waitress was friendly and checked back on us often to make sure we had everything we needed. Quizzo was a blast--especially since my team won. :) I would definitely come back here for a low-key drink in the neighborhood.

I come here at least once a week now. I used to live in the area and then moved a little further away so I didn't get to come here as much, but now I'm back baby! Even though I come here so often, I definitely do have some gripes with the place. Let's start with those. Cleanliness- I'm not sure there is any really. Everything feels sticky. Layout- the dining area is fine; the bar area is a little cramped. My problem is with the waiting area, or lack thereof. You walk in from either the front or back and there's no one to seat you. The bar area is normally first-come, first-serve. But if you want to sit elsewhere, you have to walk between the bar and the dining area and hope one of the servers will notice you and take down your name. If it's busy, you have to wait right outside the men's room (which I'm told is super gross). It's a tiny area you have to wait in. The other area is right by the front door, which is also small. It's not fun. Fortunately I've never had to wait too long (and I usually sit at the bar anyway). Some of the food- I'm pretty loyal to the burger which I'll get to, but every once in a while I'll try something else. There are a few exceptions but for the most part the food just isn't that memorable. (NOTE: I'm a proud Polish person- if you ever see the kielbasa and pierogi as a special, DON'T get it- it tastes like what you'd get in the frozen section) Service- man it's so hit-and-miss here. Sometimes the employees are so friendly (they love the regulars) and other times they don't even seem to notice your empty beer bottle that you keep nudging to the edge as a hint for 15 minutes. I'm not even talking about when it's super busy. Now for the pros, and they are big! DAT BURGER- Oh my gosh, this burger. I have dreams about it. Always so juicy and cooked to perfection. The bun it (normally) comes on is made of butter and heaven. It's so soft. Without the bun the meat would be great. Without the burger, the bun would be great. Together they make an incredible gift for your tummy and soul. On that note, if you're reading this and work at McShea's, PLEASE for the love of all that is holy, stop changing the bun. What are you trying to do to me? Menu- there is something on here for everyone and their specials always look appetizing. It's not just traditional pub food, they throw in fancy dishes too. If you ever see the Irish nachos, try them. They are to die for. Their pan-fried turkey meatloaf is also amazing. The veggie panini is tasty, but messy. Their fries and bourbon mayo are absolutely perfect! Beer list- Their draft list is almost always the same (they did have Mad Elf this winter though, that made my heart sing), but they have tons of different bottles. 50-beer challenge- They give you a card with a list of 50 different beers on it (you put your name on the card and they keep it behind the bar). You have to try all 50 on it and when you complete the card, you are given a mug (that's bigger than a pint) that is also kept behind the bar. You get to have all your beers out of this mug. I think this was really smart of them- keeps you coming back AND you try a bunch of beers you wouldn't have before. TL;DR Sure it's a little gross in here and the service can kind of suck, but the burgers are amazing and there's always a beer (or overpoured glass of wine) for you!

A favorite local pub with a good mix of beers and food. I've been going there regularly for years. They have a good range of food choices from a burger to cheesesteak to a seared ahi tuna on greens. They also so an excellent fish and chips. Frequent specials keep things interesting. For drinks they have a wide range of beer choices and wines by the glass. They have a full bar too. Prices are reasonable and service is usually fairly quick. They recently expanded their kitchen and added a lunch/dinner takeout window. The owner, John McShea, sponsors lots of local events and groups, including the several times a year music festivals. Great guy and business to have in the community.

I love McShea's. This is definitely my favorite bar in the area around SJU's campus. It's so much closer than Manayunk and it's an easy train ride away (no cab needed). That being said, it's not really a college bar-- it's Narberth, I'm not surprised, but the crowd tends to be more middle-agers than young professionals. The bar has a great cozy vibe and the back room is great to bring a group of people. However, I find the wait service tends to be a little slow for larger parties-- I tend to go early and start my own tab at the bar, because that's much faster. Some of the bartenders are really quite friendly as well. The beer selection is really quite good and varied; there is a beer card called the "Full Fifty" or something-- if you finish the list, you get a pint glass with your name on it. It's a great incentive to try new beers. But the prices tend to be more "city" prices than what you would expect to find in a small town. Again, I'm not surprised-- a lot of the beer is imported (you'll find Chimay, La Fin du Monde, various Troegs etc). But remember this or you'll be extremely put out when your check comes. A final note about the food: get the fries! They're well-battered and come with their own special mayo dip. I really don't like mayo on my fries, but I do love salty fries that are crunchy on the outside and softer on the inside. These are the fries for me. Overall, McShea's is an enjoyable trip, especially with a group of friends. It has a great local vibe and a great selection of beer. Quizzo is not a must (it tends to vary, depending on the week).

This is my favorite out of the group of pubs in Narberth. It's cozy interior and spacious outdoor seating makes grabbing a drink effortless and enjoyable. If you're hungry, this is a perfect place to eat as well.

For a neighborhood bar with a dive like atmosphere (forget the food, it is mediocre at best) they commit a cardinal sin: the smallest drink pours I have ever experienced ANYWHERE! They redefine the definition of a "1 finger" drink. If you are a beer drinker I guess you won't care, but if you are out to drink booze, go elsewhere. They do occasionally get some good live music, but tank up before you go. One more complaint: TVs all over the place, but no Hi- Def.

Food was decent. But I need a shower, after leaving. Our waitress, specifically, was good, overall the staff make the place much better than what it should be. The men's room is less than tidy. I haven't seen it's equal, even considering the old college bars I used to hit. It was smelly. The place, overall, not the cleanest. The tables had a permanent stickiness and nothing felt clean.

I had heard nothing but good things about this place, which makes me wonder where the people I had talked to had eaten because McShea's left a lot to be desired. The food- The crab an corn chowder was delicious! Other then that the food failed. We got the pretzel with special cheese sauce to start (it was a special I think). Basically it tasted like stale sourdough bread and the cheese mixture was not melted or reheated properly so it was basically clumps of stringy cheese in a mixture of warm milk and butter. We then ordered just simple food my sister got a Caesar salad, which i can't comment on because she never got it. Then we ordered wings and and cheese fries. The wings were ok although the sauce was more of a tangy BBQ then the advertised hot sauce. The fries were luke warm and the cheese was a big bowl of cold cheese wiz, which as you probably know just looks like orange goop and is really unappetizing. The Environment- I'm not opposed to the old tavern feel, in fact quite a few places I enjoy have that old tavern look. A lot of wood and out of date, but it was kinda sticky and uncared for. I wasn't at all expecting fine dining so I wasn't bothered by that. The Service- Again a lot was left to be desired. I have been in the hospitality industry for over 10 years so I tend to be a little more understanding and patient when it comes to service. However this was a Monday night and the restaurant wasn't busy with 2 servers on. While everyone was getting bread service (which is actually a very decent crab spread AND bread and butter) we didn't receive any until after our entrees came out (because we asked about it). After dropping off the pretzel appetizer the waitress never came back to check on us or see how things were, when she finally did come back over she whisked the appetizer off the table and said your food will be right out. It was obvious we hadn't enjoyed our app. but she neither asked or waited long enough for us to say anything about it. Then our fries and wings, but no salad, came out. And once again the waitress was no where to be found. By the time she realized she hadn't brought the salad and she appeared with it we were pretty much done eating. Again I know I wasn't in for fine dining but some kind of service skills should be required no matter where you work. In summery I wouldn't go back, there are plenty of places closer to me with the same type of food and environment that do it better.

This is a cute little bar in the small downtown area of Narberth. There was a great selection of beers. The staff and clientele were all extremely friendly. I went with two friends to watch the Eagles/Broncos game and we ordered a plate of the nachos with chili and cheese. They nachos are absolutely delicious. The nacho chips were freshly fried giving them a crisp crunch!! I definitely ate way too much !

Last Friday, I was planning to reconnect with a friend from junior high, who lives in Media, and we decided the Main line was probably the best spot because it was about equidistant from Media and Glenside. I did some searching on Yelp for a pub in the area, and discovered McShea's which had a near perfect 5 star record. My husband and I got there a little early and sat at the bar with a couple of bottles of beer. My coffee porter was tasty and my husband preferred it to his Christmas ale, so we traded. My friend came in with her husband just as we were finishing at around 7pm. They beat the rush by about two seconds and we grabbed the last available booth in the front. Our waitress was harried and she plopped down a basket of bread and crackers and ambled away. I grabbed her attention and asked her about the crab dip, which I've read so much about, and she apologized and brought a small dish of the hot dip to our table. It was very tasty! We all ordered,: two of us got the crab cake sandwich, which my husband said was quite good, I got a cheeseburger and my friend got the fish and chips. The fish and chips was a ginormous dish and was said to be quite good. My cheeseburger was fantastic - perfectly cooked to my request, and on the tastiest roll I've had in a long time. It was a soft roll with a tasty egg wash that made it sort of taste like a soft pretzel with a much softer texture. It was heavenly. The fries that came with the burger were not that plentiful, but in my opinion the perfect amount, so you didn't feel like you were ready to burst by the end of the meal. There's not much going on in little sleepy Narberth, but I could easily see coming out again for the crab dip, some beer and a sandwich.

McShea's is bar-none the most welcoming pub I've ever been to. If you live within 5 square miles of Narberth you should make this your local watering hole. Teresa's great--if in doubt, let her be your menu navigator because she won't disappoint. The Spooner wrap is incredible, although they won't tell you what's in it.... Great food, good beer on tap (Bell's Pale?!), and friendly people. What more can you ask for???

I absolutely love McShea's-mostly because I can walk here lol. But the owners and staff are very nice and attentive. The guests are young but not too young and there is a nice diversity of types of people that go here. There are tvs but not too many. Cozy bathroom but it is well kept. The drinks are affordable and bartenders are amazing. It has a nice, welcoming atmosphere that invites you in and makes you feel like you are in a bar similar to Cheers. No one rushes you or makes you feel uncomfortable, and it is so nice and laid back. Super great beer selection, too!!!!!

Wow, what a great selection of beers in this little neighborhood bar. Stopped in there for lunch. Pretty basic fare for a bar, but with a slight twist. Prompt service, very courteous staff. Would definitely go there again. Especially when thirsty!

McShea's is an awesome find in a small town like Narberth. The service is wonderful and very welcoming, and the food is great too! I go there at least once a week and enjoy the local bartenders, great selection of beer, and their menu. Usually on Friday and Saturday nights they also have some really great specials, ranging from Tuna steak to seared Sirloin to more casual fare. McShea's has casual menu options, and full meal traditional staples for a great price.

I've only been here once (so far) but I was far and away impressed. The SO and I came for lunch one day during World Cup (quite possibly the best day to come ever) and enjoyed the atmosphere, the game, and the food. I had a veggie wrap, and it was quite excellent. I'll definitely be back!

Wandered in McShea's, never having been there, and not sure what I was getting myself into. What a great surprise. Had just taken my mom to a movie at the Narberth Theater and was looking for a place to grab a bite to eat and some coffe for her, maybe a beer for me. We ordered soup, a chicken quesadilla, and some fries. The soup was amazing, the quesadilla was huge and probably the best I'd ever had. And the fries were a huge portion as well. They had schmiticks on tap whic was nice and coffee for me. It was a wednesday so I don't how it is on the weekend but it seemed like a throwback. Like a old traditional local bar that hadn't changed in 60 years. It definitely seems like a bar that may have that "Cheers" atmosphere for the locals.

Very attentive bar help, fantastic selection of beer, especially that cooler filled with probably 50 or 60 micro brews. Oh yeah, that's a great feature. Food: Got a burger once for lunch and as far as burgers go, it was memorable. Large and juicy. Don't think I finished it all. Once I was there on a very cool evening and they were putting free hors d'oeuvres on the bar, and they were very tasty. Would most definitely go there for another meal. It's kind of rustic looking, but it adds to the ambiance. Will definitely be going back again. The other good news: you won't find any hipsters. Yay!!!!!

If I could give McShea's 4.5, I would. I'm almost tempted to go "5" for the content of the menu and the awe-inspiring beer choices, but not everything on the menu is always prepared well (although a LOT of the food comes out very, very good -- much better than I ever would have expected) and the service is pretty up and down. Some of the servers are on top of their game and friendly, but some only have friendly going for them and a few seem to have neither. Still, it's a great place to take the family where the kids are ecstatic about the food, we are quite pleased with the food, AND we get a great beer with dinner.

I was amazed by burgers they have. I ordered Irish B.L.T $9. That was AMAZING. Staffs were nice too. I went there during the daytime on Saturday, so nobody was inside and it was very easy to find the parking lot but I bet you will have hard time finding a parking lot if you visit here at night. They have coin-only operated parking meters around this restaurant but if you park on Windsor Ave, you don't need to pay for parking, although you need to walk little bit.

McShea's is a terrific little dive bar in the heart of Narberth. The food is regular bar fare; however, they do a very nice job on St. Patrick's Day with Irish standards ( and they even host local Irish dancers to entertain!) Great beer selection.

Erin M and I went for dinner there 11/20/09. Her review has great details. Let me add: The guys behind the bar where very friendly and patient. Erin and I were very deliberative about our beer selections. We asked plenty of questions and the bartender was happy to talk to us. I had the crab cake sandwich. I highly recommend. A very, very full crab cake. And not deep fried at all. I would have it again in a heartbeat and not even consider the other options. The roll it and my wife's cheeseburger came on was fantastic. My wife let me finish her cheeseburger and that bite or two was very tasty. Very nice job on the burger. My wife's friend cut me a large piece of her fish and chips. Decent but not anything to kvell about. And it cost twice what they charge for burgers and crab cake sandwiches. To sum up: nice beer selection, get there a little early to beat the rush and order the crab cake sandwich or burger and you'll be happy.

I really wanted to like this place and the other reviews of the food seem fairly positive. On my first visit I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was fishy smelling which might sound obvious - but it smelled like fish in a bad way. I tried to eat through it (I don't like to make a fuss)... Many weeks later my thoughts continue to go back to how just how bad it was. The beer helped.

Another restaurant in town lost our reservation for 18 one sat night and Mcsheas accomodated us very quickly and with great service. Ive also been there a few times with my teen who loves the quesadilla's. If you have only one choice in what to order there on a cold , winter's night--- go with their HOT TODDY. Only complaints regarding food from our party were: corned beef VERY fatty & far too much pepper in clam chowder. Specials looked interesting but we ordered from regular menu. our waitress was very friendly & seemed to be making an effort but failed miserably. i got the impression she had been urged by management to turn tables quickly. she forgot our apps then when reminded brought everything out at once. she then seemed to be rushing us to finish. I'm an out- of- towner, not a regular, so they score no points for familiarity. That said, if I was a local I'd give it another shot. One last observation: bathroom was filthy & that's never a good sign.

This is the bar I go to when ever I visit friends and family back home. It's not a very big town, but places like this instantly make you feel welcome. the bartenders are always very friendly, the drink selection ranges from inexpensive to moderately priced. It's also not every day that you find a beer selection that provides you with PBR, Chimay, and everything in between, especially for the suburbs. It also has an exceptional menu. I recommend the crab cakes. McShea's also has a fun open mic night every Thursday evening. it also has a quizzo night, and the occasional music performance.

This really is my go-to pub on the Main Line. When I first moved into the area about 2 years ago, I made it my goal to find a local pub with a cozy, personable feel, and of course; a great beer selection. The first time I ate at McShea's was during a day Villanova basketball game (which, by the way- this is a great place to watch sports/meet people) and it had a complete Cheers feel to it. I remember some people singing along to some song that was playing while watching the game. Everyone is always so nice here, the food is great (my favorite- the surprisingly flavorful veggie panini), the bartenders are knowledgeable about beer and approachable, and they've always got something fun going on. They also have this great bourbon mayo dip that they serve with fries, and they serve a FANTASTIC horseradish-crabby dip with bread to accompany dinner. Yum!

It had been years since I set foot in McShea's and, fortunately, it is just as great today as I recalled it to be. The oversized chicken cheesesteak makes for a filling, enjoyable lunch. McShea's uses thick cuts of chicken and the cooks know how to properly season it. So many places overuse black pepper like it's a weapon to protect the meat from your menacing mouth but the conservative approach here is much more inviting. The prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly, and both the food and drink are plentiful. As far as neighborhood bars go, McShea' is Narberth's shining star.

I really like the atmosphere here; it's very laid back. The food is pretty good and staff is very nice. The cheese fries are good. The black bean burger is odd (not necessarily bad) - it's like loose black beans held together with what seems like refried bean paste or something. I'm making it sound gross, but it's actually alright, although I will probably try something else on the menu next time. My friend got a huge Irish coffee that I could smell from across the table (and it smelled great). The location in downtown Narberth right around the corner from the movie theater and down the street from the train station is great too. I will definitely be making this my pub-of-choice in the Main Line.

Ah, McShea's. It's the best pub in Narberth (and there are four, which is a lot for a small town). McShea's is welcoming, has really good food (although I'm not so sure about their "Irish sushi"), and a decent beer selection on tap and in bottles. The servers and bartenders are friendly, and if you're a local, you'll probably know most of the clientele already. And if you're Irish like me, you'll love the decor. McShea's is just an all-around good local watering hole. My favorite part about McShea's (aside from the fact that I can walk there) is its involvement in the community. During the fall and spring Narberth music fests, when Haverford Ave. is closed to vehicles, they open their doors wide to sell seasonal drinks and beer that you can take outside to enjoy the music. They also hold seasonal events like a pumpkin carving contest, and they started a dinner of the month club, which has a rotating seasonal fixed price special menu one night a month. This last month's dinner of the month special was a three course meal using pumpkin as the main ingredient. How cool is that?

To be avoided. Greasy, fatty sandwiches, although if you like fatty meat and greasy fries, you'll love the portions. Horrible, rude service. Wear a coat in winter in the back room--it's a meteorological and hospitality Siberia there. I really can't understand how this place gets any positive ratings. Maybe if you live a block away and you don't want to drive to have a beer, this place might suffice. But there are literally dozens of better options if you live outside of Narberth. And why is this place regarded as a beer mecca? It had six or seven draft beers at most.

This is my favorite out of the group of pubs in Narberth. It's cozy interior and spacious outdoor seating makes grabbing a drink effortless and enjoyable. If you're hungry, this is a perfect place to eat as well.

I love McShea's. This is definitely my favorite bar in the area around SJU's campus. It's so much closer than Manayunk and it's an easy train ride away (no cab needed). That being said, it's not really a college bar-- it's Narberth, I'm not surprised, but the crowd tends to be more middle-agers than young professionals. The bar has a great cozy vibe and the back room is great to bring a group of people. However, I find the wait service tends to be a little slow for larger parties-- I tend to go early and start my own tab at the bar, because that's much faster. Some of the bartenders are really quite friendly as well. The beer selection is really quite good and varied; there is a beer card called the "Full Fifty" or something-- if you finish the list, you get a pint glass with your name on it. It's a great incentive to try new beers. But the prices tend to be more "city" prices than what you would expect to find in a small town. Again, I'm not surprised-- a lot of the beer is imported (you'll find Chimay, La Fin du Monde, various Troegs etc). But remember this or you'll be extremely put out when your check comes. A final note about the food: get the fries! They're well-battered and come with their own special mayo dip. I really don't like mayo on my fries, but I do love salty fries that are crunchy on the outside and softer on the inside. These are the fries for me. Overall, McShea's is an enjoyable trip, especially with a group of friends. It has a great local vibe and a great selection of beer. Quizzo is not a must (it tends to vary, depending on the week).

I haven't seen it's equal, even considering the old college bars I used to hit. It was smelly. The place, overall, not the cleanest. The tables had a permanent stickiness and nothing felt clean.

I had heard nothing but good things about this place, which makes me wonder where the people I had talked to had eaten because McShea's left a lot to be desired. The food- The crab an corn chowder was delicious! Other then that the food failed. We got the pretzel with special cheese sauce to start (it was a special I think). Basically it tasted like stale sourdough bread and the cheese mixture was not melted or reheated properly so it was basically clumps of stringy cheese in a mixture of warm milk and butter. We then ordered just simple food my sister got a Caesar salad, which i can't comment on because she never got it. Then we ordered wings and and cheese fries. The wings were ok although the sauce was more of a tangy BBQ then the advertised hot sauce. The fries were luke warm and the cheese was a big bowl of cold cheese wiz, which as you probably know just looks like orange goop and is really unappetizing. The Environment- I'm not opposed to the old tavern feel, in fact quite a few places I enjoy have that old tavern look. A lot of wood and out of date, but it was kinda sticky and uncared for. I wasn't at all expecting fine dining so I wasn't bothered by that. The Service- Again a lot was left to be desired. I have been in the hospitality industry for over 10 years so I tend to be a little more understanding and patient when it comes to service. However this was a Monday night and the restaurant wasn't busy with 2 servers on. While everyone was getting bread service (which is actually a very decent crab spread AND bread and butter) we didn't receive any until after our entrees came out (because we asked about it). After dropping off the pretzel appetizer the waitress never came back to check on us or see how things were, when she finally did come back over she whisked the appetizer off the table and said your food will be right out. It was obvious we hadn't enjoyed our app. but she neither asked or waited long enough for us to say anything about it. Then our fries and wings, but no salad, came out. And once again the waitress was no where to be found. By the time she realized she hadn't brought the salad and she appeared with it we were pretty much done eating. Again I know I wasn't in for fine dining but some kind of service skills should be required no matter where you work. In summery I wouldn't go back, there are plenty of places closer to me with the same type of food and environment that do it better.

This is a cute little bar in the small downtown area of Narberth. There was a great selection of beers. The staff and clientele were all extremely friendly. I went with two friends to watch the Eagles/Broncos game and we ordered a plate of the nachos with chili and cheese. They nachos are absolutely delicious. Last Friday, I was planning to reconnect with a friend from junior high, who lives in Media, and we decided the Main line was probably the best spot because it was about equidistant from Media and Glenside. I did some searching on Yelp for a pub in the area, and discovered McShea's which had a near perfect 5 star record. My husband and I got there a little early and sat at the bar with a couple of bottles of beer. My coffee porter was tasty and my husband preferred it to his Christmas ale, so we traded. My friend came in with her husband just as we were finishing at around 7pm. They beat the rush by about two seconds and we grabbed the last available booth in the front. Our waitress was harried and she plopped down a basket of bread and crackers and ambled away. I grabbed her attention and asked her about the crab dip, which I've read so much about, and she apologized and brought a small dish of the hot dip to our table. It was very tasty! We all ordered,: two of us got the crab cake sandwich, which my husband said was quite good, I got a cheeseburger and my friend got the fish and chips. The fish and chips was a ginormous dish and was said to be quite good. My cheeseburger was fantastic - perfectly cooked to my request, and on the tastiest roll I've had in a long time. It was a soft roll with a tasty egg wash that made it sort of taste like a soft pretzel with a much softer texture. It was heavenly. The fries that came with the burger were not that plentiful, but in my opinion the perfect amount, so you didn't feel like you were ready to burst by the end of the meal. There's not much going on in little sleepy Narberth, but I could easily see coming out again for the crab dip, some beer and a sandwich.

It's usually kind of crowded, but I kind of like it-- gives it a homey feel! Definitely my favorite bar in Narberth! Although, to be honest, I haven't checked out the bar right across from McShea's (that's connected to the place that sells craft beer) but it sounds really rowdy in there when I stop by that craft beer place sometimes! Good food, good beer, what more could you ask for?

This pub has a brick wall and a bar that runs the length of the pub as well as a dining area in the back. McShea's definitely feels like an Irish pub. It's got the decor, and the noise level is high. The service is friendly and laid back (they won't rush you). I think the appetizers are a bit overpriced to be worth it, and if you don't get an appetizer, they'll bring you bread, crackers, and crab dip on the house, which is actually quite good. As far as the food goes, I'm a fan. Their crab cakes are really good and come with sweet potato fries (and dipping sauce) steamed veggies, and coleslaw. Their fish and chips are right up there with some of the best I've had. Wonderful fish flavor, crispy and flaky, and a good portion size. Their burgers are also really good. The beer selection at McShea's is excellent. They've got over 50 bottled beers including beers from Victory, Bell's, Avery, Chimay, Ommegang, Stone, Samuel Smith's, Smuttynose, Magic hat, Rogue, Sierra Nevada, and Anchor Steam - I'm in heaven. The only complaints I've got about McShea's are their lunch menu and dessert selection. Their lunch menu is kind of limited and boring, and as for dessert, one night I was there, they only had one dessert offered, and the other night, they had two. Both desserts were store-quality (not gourmet-quality dessert like you can find at the nearby Pub of Penn Valley). Despite these complaints, McShea's is a solid 4 stars.

I have to say reading the other reviews I thought...what? So, the first time I went with a friend it was wintertime and it was bloody cold. The heat wasn't working properly. Not easy to eat with your gloves on and I'd have to say that it may have colored my experience. So, we decided to go back on a warmer day. Headed there for lunch. Found a nice booth in the rear by the window...with a torn screen AND a dead fly. Not good. Our server came quickly enough. Lunch menu not elaborate but decent selection for pub food. We ordered - burgers & a turkey club. Our drinks came. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. It was not particularly busy. Our server made sure our drinks were filled but offered nothing in the way of food updates. Finally, 30 minutes later, our food arrives. Fries are those typical batter-coated food service type. Burgers were OK. Turkey club was served on half-burnt toast. The food was decent and the service moderately attentive however the kitchen was way slow and the quality of the food just didn't warrant any kind of raves. Combine that with one freezing experience and one dead fly experience and I'd say we probably won't bother with a trip back.

McShea's is welcoming, has really good food (although I'm not so sure about their "Irish sushi"), and a decent beer selection on tap and in bottles. The servers and bartenders are friendly, and if you're a local, you'll probably know most of the clientele already. And if you're Irish like me, you'll love the decor. McShea's is just an all-around good local watering hole. My favorite part about McShea's (aside from the fact that I can walk there) is its involvement in the community. During the fall and spring Narberth music fests, when Haverford Ave. is closed to vehicles, they open their doors wide to sell seasonal drinks and beer that you can take outside to enjoy the music. They also hold seasonal events like a pumpkin carving contest, and they started a dinner of the month club, which has a rotating seasonal fixed price special menu one night a month. This last month's dinner of the month special was a three course meal using pumpkin as the main ingredient. How cool is that?

To be avoided. Greasy, fatty sandwiches, although if you like fatty meat and greasy fries, you'll love the portions. Horrible, rude service. Wear a coat in winter in the back room--it's a meteorological and hospitality Siberia there. I really can't understand how this place gets any positive ratings. Maybe if you live a block away and you don't want to drive to have a beer, this place might suffice. But there are literally dozens of better options if you live outside of Narberth. And why is this place regarded as a beer mecca? It had six or seven draft beers at most.

McShea's is bar-none the most welcoming pub I've ever been to. If you live within 5 square miles of Narberth you should make this your local watering hole. Teresa's great--if in doubt, let her be your menu navigator because she won't disappoint. The Spooner wrap is incredible, although they won't tell you what's in it.... Great food, good beer on tap (Bell's Pale?!), and friendly people. What more can you ask for???

I absolutely love McShea's-mostly because I can walk here lol. But the owners and staff are very nice and attentive. The guests are young but not too young and there is a nice diversity of types of people that go here. There are tvs but not too many. Cozy bathroom but it is well kept. The drinks are affordable and bartenders are amazing. It has a nice, welcoming atmosphere that invites you in and makes you feel like you are in a bar similar to Cheers. No one rushes you or makes you feel uncomfortable, and it is so nice and laid back. Super great beer selection, too!!!!!

Wow, what a great selection of beers in this little neighborhood bar. Stopped in there for lunch. Pretty basic fare for a bar, but with a slight twist. Prompt service, very courteous staff. Would definitely go there again. Especially when thirsty!

I've only been here once (so far) but I was far and away impressed. The SO and I came for lunch one day during World Cup (quite possibly the best day to come ever) and enjoyed the atmosphere, the game, and the food. I had a veggie wrap, and it was quite excellent. I'll definitely be back!

Wandered in McShea's, never having been there, and not sure what I was getting myself into. What a great surprise. Had just taken my mom to a movie at the Narberth Theater and was looking for a place to grab a bite to eat and some coffe for her, maybe a beer for me. We ordered soup, a chicken quesadilla, and some fries. The soup was amazing, the quesadilla was huge and probably the best I'd ever had. And the fries were a huge portion as well. They had schmiticks on tap whic was nice and coffee for me. It was a wednesday so I don't how it is on the weekend but it seemed like a throwback. Like a old traditional local bar that hadn't changed in 60 years. It definitely seems like a bar that may have that "Cheers" atmosphere for the locals.

Went with the wife for date night to get a few beers and a burger (my yardstick for civilization). Ordered my usual; burger, medium, cheddar, bacon, and a fried egg. Objective review is as follows: 1. 1 star for friendly staff. Got drinks, ordered, and got food promptly. 2. 1 star for good beer menu. Craft beer selection was good. 3. 1 star for good food. Burger was huge, cooked properly, and seasoned well. 4. 1 star for the fried egg. I dont believe any establishment deserves to be in business if they cant figure out a way to overcharge a customer for an egg. There are many places like this, especially in the suburbs. McShea's didnt seem familiar with egg-on-the-burger concept, but they delivered on a properly cooked egg (could have been 2, not sure, it was huge.) There you have it folks, best in Narberth so far.

Located in the heart of Narberth, you'll find this neighborhood watering hole. Started at the bar and grabbed a bottle of Amstel Light as the draft list didn't excite me (not a fan of hoppy beers). As my friends arrived we decided to move to a table to eat. I ordered steamed littleneck clams as an appetizer(not only did they arrive late but at first they were raw plus I did not get butter. Bread to dip in the broth was not great but the free crab dip for the table was great with crackers). Had an unimpressive Caesar salad with shrimp. The people I was with seemed to like their food. Regular hole in the wall bar (not that there is anything wrong with that) in Narbeth. Narbeth has a cute litlte twony area to walk around in. Narrow entry way which leads to an open dining area. We sat at the bar near the entrance and what was odd was that we say the service staff carrying food from outside the bar to inside to serve to the patrons. Not sure I really understand why that happened. They do offer a wide range of beer, which for me is always good :) We ordered the sweet potato fries which were delicious. They have cinnamon on them and came with, what I think, was a sour cream type dip (not all the crazy about the dip). Bar service was fast and friendly :)

Cool pub with descent food and a solid beer selection on the main strip in Narberth. Cheesesteaks are solid, I wish the wings were a little better, but they certainly aren't bad. Also, great spot to watch a game. McShea's has a great neighborhood feel and a classic pub vibe; brick walls, long bar, tight booths, dimly lit, vintage signs on the walls, very cool spot.

It was very noisy, and very tight on room (like, you get bumped every time someone in the restaurant gets up) But, hey, good for McShea's- it's a thriving bar/Restaurant on a Saturday night! As far as the food went, I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and thought it was delicious (crispy fries and all)! The menu is pretty much a typical bar/pub menu, and if you go there expecting a gourmet meal, you may be disappointed. But, if you are looking for bar food done really well, I'd recommend McShea's. We were really impressed with the waitress, BTW. She was so busy, and she really had it together. Although she had little time to chit-chat, she anticipated every need we could have had, and really stayed ahead of the game. Overall, everyone at our table was happy with their meals (not sure if my parents were thrilled with the noise and jostling). I'd definitely go back, but maybe on a weeknight?

For a neighborhood bar with a dive like atmosphere (forget the food, it is mediocre at best) they commit a cardinal sin: the smallest drink pours I have ever experienced ANYWHERE! They redefine the definition of a "1 finger" drink. If you are a beer drinker I guess you won't care, but if you are out to drink booze, go elsewhere. They do occasionally get some good live music, but tank up before you go. One more complaint: TVs all over the place, but no Hi- Def.

Erin M and I went for dinner there 11/20/09. Her review has great details. Let me add: The guys behind the bar where very friendly and patient. Erin and I were very deliberative about our beer selections. We asked plenty of questions and the bartender was happy to talk to us. I had the crab cake sandwich. I highly recommend. A very, very full crab cake. And not deep fried at all. I would have it again in a heartbeat and not even consider the other options. The roll it and my wife's cheeseburger came on was fantastic. My wife let me finish her cheeseburger and that bite or two was very tasty. Very nice job on the burger. My wife's friend cut me a large piece of her fish and chips. Decent but not anything to kvell about. And it cost twice what they charge for burgers and crab cake sandwiches. To sum up: nice beer selection, get there a little early to beat the rush and order the crab cake sandwich or burger and you'll be happy.

One last observation: bathroom was filthy & that's never a good sign.

I love my dive bars and I'm lucky enough to be able to seek them out all over the country. Based on Yelp reviews McShea's has been on my list for a while. So I stopped in on Monday around 3 PM. It was an odd time and I was the fifth patron in the place. The atmosphere meets all the dive bar standards. It's a little beat up. It's a little dark. It's a little cluttered. The employees I spotted were a little scruffy. It is definitely a divey place. My scruffy bartender was cute and quickly served me an Avery White Rascal draft. It came from one of about ten taps. The beer list is impressive, especially the bottle selection. Beer aficionados will be delighted. Unfortunately cute was the bartender's best trait. Part of a bartender's job, especially when it's slow, is to engage the customers. At this she failed miserably and I hate that! Maybe it was because I was not a regular. She did a nice job of keeping me from becoming one. It seemed that my fellow Yelpers liked the Chicken Quesadillas ($10) so I gave one a try. It was huge, hot and excellent. It was packed with big chunks of chicken. The side of BBQ sauce was unusual but tasty. It's a good thing it was great because the bartender never bothered to ask. I liked the atmosphere, liked the beer and loved the food. The bartender turned me off so I'm going three stars instead of what should have been a four star experience.

Narberth has a lot of options, but McShea's was our first go-to place. I really enjoy the food, especially the complimentary bread and crab dip appetizer. My husband prefers the Greeks across the street because of their craft beer options, but if you have a group that includes drinkers that are not beer fans, McShea's is a safer choice. It's a great place to meet up with friends, but it can get very loud and crowded during peak hours; if you want a quieter experience, just go at off-hours (it's almost like a different restaurant). The only item I was unsatisfied with was their crab cakes. However, I lived in Baltimore for six years, so my expectations may be too high for a Philly suburb joint.

A favorite local pub with a good mix of beers and food. I've been going there regularly for years. They have a good range of food choices from a burger to cheesesteak to a seared ahi tuna on greens. They also so an excellent fish and chips. Frequent specials keep things interesting. For drinks they have a wide range of beer choices and wines by the glass. They have a full bar too. Prices are reasonable and service is usually fairly quick. They recently expanded their kitchen and added a lunch/dinner takeout window. The owner, John McShea, sponsors lots of local events and groups, including the several times a year music festivals. Great guy and business to have in the community.

It's not a very big town, but places like this instantly make you feel welcome. the bartenders are always very friendly, the drink selection ranges from inexpensive to moderately priced. It's also not every day that you find a beer selection that provides you with PBR, Chimay, and everything in between, especially for the suburbs. It also has an exceptional menu. I recommend the crab cakes. McShea's also has a fun open mic night every Thursday evening. it also has a quizzo night, and the occasional music performance.

I come here at least once a week now. I used to live in the area and then moved a little further away so I didn't get to come here as much, but now I'm back baby! Even though I come here so often, I definitely do have some gripes with the place. Let's start with those. Cleanliness- I'm not sure there is any really. Everything feels sticky. Layout- the dining area is fine; the bar area is a little cramped. My problem is with the waiting area, or lack thereof. You walk in from either the front or back and there's no one to seat you. The bar area is normally first-come, first-serve. But if you want to sit elsewhere, you have to walk between the bar and the dining area and hope one of the servers will notice you and take down your name. If it's busy, you have to wait right outside the men's room (which I'm told is super gross). It's a tiny area you have to wait in. The other area is right by the front door, which is also small. It's not fun. Fortunately I've never had to wait too long (and I usually sit at the bar anyway). Some of the food- I'm pretty loyal to the burger which I'll get to, but every once in a while I'll try something else. There are a few exceptions but for the most part the food just isn't that memorable. (NOTE: I'm a proud Polish person- if you ever see the kielbasa and pierogi as a special, DON'T get it- it tastes like what you'd get in the frozen section) Service- man it's so hit-and-miss here. Sometimes the employees are so friendly (they love the regulars) and other times they don't even seem to notice your empty beer bottle that you keep nudging to the edge as a hint for 15 minutes. I'm not even talking about when it's super busy. Now for the pros, and they are big! DAT BURGER- Oh my gosh, this burger. I have dreams about it. Always so juicy and cooked to perfection. The bun it (normally) comes on is made of butter and heaven. It's so soft. Without the bun the meat would be great. Without the burger, the bun would be great. Together they make an incredible gift for your tummy and soul. On that note, if you're reading this and work at McShea's, PLEASE for the love of all that is holy, stop changing the bun. What are you trying to do to me? Menu- there is something on here for everyone and their specials always look appetizing. It's not just traditional pub food, they throw in fancy dishes too. If you ever see the Irish nachos, try them. They are to die for. Their pan-fried turkey meatloaf is also amazing. The veggie panini is tasty, but messy. Their fries and bourbon mayo are absolutely perfect! Beer list- Their draft list is almost always the same (they did have Mad Elf this winter though, that made my heart sing), but they have tons of different bottles. 50-beer challenge- They give you a card with a list of 50 different beers on it (you put your name on the card and they keep it behind the bar). You have to try all 50 on it and when you complete the card, you are given a mug (that's bigger than a pint) that is also kept behind the bar. You get to have all your beers out of this mug. I think this was really smart of them- keeps you coming back AND you try a bunch of beers you wouldn't have before. TL;DR Sure it's a little gross in here and the service can kind of suck, but the burgers are amazing and there's always a beer (or overpoured glass of wine) for you!

Narberth has a lot of options, but McShea's was our first go-to place. I really enjoy the food, especially the complimentary bread and crab dip appetizer. My husband prefers the Greeks across the street because of their craft beer options, but if you have a group that includes drinkers that are not beer fans, McShea's is a safer choice. It's a great place to meet up with friends, but it can get very loud and crowded during peak hours; if you want a quieter experience, just go at off-hours (it's almost like a different restaurant). The only item I was unsatisfied with was their crab cakes. However, I lived in Baltimore for six years, so my expectations may be too high for a Philly suburb joint.

Came here last night for Quizzo with colleagues. It's a standard, divey neighborhood bar in most respects, but with a decent menu. I ordered pork tenderloin and it was well-flavored, though a tad overcooked. Our waitress was friendly and checked back on us often to make sure we had everything we needed. Quizzo was a blast--especially since my team won. :) I would definitely come back here for a low-key drink in the neighborhood.

A favorite local pub with a good mix of beers and food. I've been going there regularly for years. They have a good range of food choices from a burger to cheesesteak to a seared ahi tuna on greens. They also so an excellent fish and chips. Frequent specials keep things interesting. For drinks they have a wide range of beer choices and wines by the glass. They have a full bar too. Prices are reasonable and service is usually fairly quick. They recently expanded their kitchen and added a lunch/dinner takeout window. The owner, John McShea, sponsors lots of local events and groups, including the several times a year music festivals. Great guy and business to have in the community.

I come here at least once a week now. I used to live in the area and then moved a little further away so I didn't get to come here as much, but now I'm back baby! Even though I come here so often, I definitely do have some gripes with the place. Let's start with those. Cleanliness- I'm not sure there is any really. Everything feels sticky. Layout- the dining area is fine; the bar area is a little cramped. My problem is with the waiting area, or lack thereof. You walk in from either the front or back and there's no one to seat you. The bar area is normally first-come, first-serve. But if you want to sit elsewhere, you have to walk between the bar and the dining area and hope one of the servers will notice you and take down your name. If it's busy, you have to wait right outside the men's room (which I'm told is super gross). It's a tiny area you have to wait in. The other area is right by the front door, which is also small. It's not fun. Fortunately I've never had to wait too long (and I usually sit at the bar anyway). Some of the food- I'm pretty loyal to the burger which I'll get to, but every once in a while I'll try something else. There are a few exceptions but for the most part the food just isn't that memorable. (NOTE: I'm a proud Polish person- if you ever see the kielbasa and pierogi as a special, DON'T get it- it tastes like what you'd get in the frozen section) Service- man it's so hit-and-miss here. Sometimes the employees are so friendly (they love the regulars) and other times they don't even seem to notice your empty beer bottle that you keep nudging to the edge as a hint for 15 minutes. I'm not even talking about when it's super busy. Now for the pros, and they are big! DAT BURGER- Oh my gosh, this burger. I have dreams about it. Always so juicy and cooked to perfection. The bun it (normally) comes on is made of butter and heaven. It's so soft. Without the bun the meat would be great. Without the burger, the bun would be great. Together they make an incredible gift for your tummy and soul. On that note, if you're reading this and work at McShea's, PLEASE for the love of all that is holy, stop changing the bun. What are you trying to do to me? Menu- there is something on here for everyone and their specials always look appetizing. It's not just traditional pub food, they throw in fancy dishes too. If you ever see the Irish nachos, try them. They are to die for. Their pan-fried turkey meatloaf is also amazing. The veggie panini is tasty, but messy. Their fries and bourbon mayo are absolutely perfect! Beer list- Their draft list is almost always the same (they did have Mad Elf this winter though, that made my heart sing), but they have tons of different bottles. 50-beer challenge- They give you a card with a list of 50 different beers on it (you put your name on the card and they keep it behind the bar). You have to try all 50 on it and when you complete the card, you are given a mug (that's bigger than a pint) that is also kept behind the bar. You get to have all your beers out of this mug. I think this was really smart of them- keeps you coming back AND you try a bunch of beers you wouldn't have before. TL;DR Sure it's a little gross in here and the service can kind of suck, but the burgers are amazing and there's always a beer (or overpoured glass of wine) for you!

I love McShea's. This is definitely my favorite bar in the area around SJU's campus. It's so much closer than Manayunk and it's an easy train ride away (no cab needed). That being said, it's not really a college bar-- it's Narberth, I'm not surprised, but the crowd tends to be more middle-agers than young professionals. The bar has a great cozy vibe and the back room is great to bring a group of people. However, I find the wait service tends to be a little slow for larger parties-- I tend to go early and start my own tab at the bar, because that's much faster. Some of the bartenders are really quite friendly as well. The beer selection is really quite good and varied; there is a beer card called the "Full Fifty" or something-- if you finish the list, you get a pint glass with your name on it. It's a great incentive to try new beers. But the prices tend to be more "city" prices than what you would expect to find in a small town. Again, I'm not surprised-- a lot of the beer is imported (you'll find Chimay, La Fin du Monde, various Troegs etc). But remember this or you'll be extremely put out when your check comes. A final note about the food: get the fries! They're well-battered and come with their own special mayo dip. I really don't like mayo on my fries, but I do love salty fries that are crunchy on the outside and softer on the inside. These are the fries for me. Overall, McShea's is an enjoyable trip, especially with a group of friends. It has a great local vibe and a great selection of beer. Quizzo is not a must (it tends to vary, depending on the week).

This is my favorite out of the group of pubs in Narberth. It's cozy interior and spacious outdoor seating makes grabbing a drink effortless and enjoyable. If you're hungry, this is a perfect place to eat as well.

For a neighborhood bar with a dive like atmosphere (forget the food, it is mediocre at best) they commit a cardinal sin: the smallest drink pours I have ever experienced ANYWHERE! They redefine the definition of a "1 finger" drink. If you are a beer drinker I guess you won't care, but if you are out to drink booze, go elsewhere. They do occasionally get some good live music, but tank up before you go. One more complaint: TVs all over the place, but no Hi- Def.

I haven't seen it's equal, even considering the old college bars I used to hit. It was smelly. The place, overall, not the cleanest. The tables had a permanent stickiness and nothing felt clean.

I had heard nothing but good things about this place, which makes me wonder where the people I had talked to had eaten because McShea's left a lot to be desired. The food- The crab an corn chowder was delicious! Other then that the food failed. We got the pretzel with special cheese sauce to start (it was a special I think). Basically it tasted like stale sourdough bread and the cheese mixture was not melted or reheated properly so it was basically clumps of stringy cheese in a mixture of warm milk and butter. We then ordered just simple food my sister got a Caesar salad, which i can't comment on because she never got it. Then we ordered wings and and cheese fries. The wings were ok although the sauce was more of a tangy BBQ then the advertised hot sauce. The fries were luke warm and the cheese was a big bowl of cold cheese wiz, which as you probably know just looks like orange goop and is really unappetizing. The Environment- I'm not opposed to the old tavern feel, in fact quite a few places I enjoy have that old tavern look. A lot of wood and out of date, but it was kinda sticky and uncared for. I wasn't at all expecting fine dining so I wasn't bothered by that. The Service- Again a lot was left to be desired. I have been in the hospitality industry for over 10 years so I tend to be a little more understanding and patient when it comes to service. However this was a Monday night and the restaurant wasn't busy with 2 servers on. While everyone was getting bread service (which is actually a very decent crab spread AND bread and butter) we didn't receive any until after our entrees came out (because we asked about it). After dropping off the pretzel appetizer the waitress never came back to check on us or see how things were, when she finally did come back over she whisked the appetizer off the table and said your food will be right out. It was obvious we hadn't enjoyed our app. but she neither asked or waited long enough for us to say anything about it. Then our fries and wings, but no salad, came out. And once again the waitress was no where to be found. By the time she realized she hadn't brought the salad and she appeared with it we were pretty much done eating. Again I know I wasn't in for fine dining but some kind of service skills should be required no matter where you work. In summery I wouldn't go back, there are plenty of places closer to me with the same type of food and environment that do it better.

This is a cute little bar in the small downtown area of Narberth. There was a great selection of beers. The staff and clientele were all extremely friendly. I went with two friends to watch the Eagles/Broncos game and we ordered a plate of the nachos with chili and cheese. They nachos are absolutely delicious. The nacho chips were freshly fried giving them a crisp crunch!! I definitely ate way too much !

Last Friday, I was planning to reconnect with a friend from junior high, who lives in Media, and we decided the Main line was probably the best spot because it was about equidistant from Media and Glenside. I did some searching on Yelp for a pub in the area, and discovered McShea's which had a near perfect 5 star record. My husband and I got there a little early and sat at the bar with a couple of bottles of beer. My coffee porter was tasty and my husband preferred it to his Christmas ale, so we traded. My friend came in with her husband just as we were finishing at around 7pm. They beat the rush by about two seconds and we grabbed the last available booth in the front. Our waitress was harried and she plopped down a basket of bread and crackers and ambled away. I grabbed her attention and asked her about the crab dip, which I've read so much about, and she apologized and brought a small dish of the hot dip to our table. It was very tasty! We all ordered,: two of us got the crab cake sandwich, which my husband said was quite good, I got a cheeseburger and my friend got the fish and chips. The fish and chips was a ginormous dish and was said to be quite good. My cheeseburger was fantastic - perfectly cooked to my request, and on the tastiest roll I've had in a long time. It was a soft roll with a tasty egg wash that made it sort of taste like a soft pretzel with a much softer texture. It was heavenly. The fries that came with the burger were not that plentiful, but in my opinion the perfect amount, so you didn't feel like you were ready to burst by the end of the meal. There's not much going on in little sleepy Narberth, but I could easily see coming out again for the crab dip, some beer and a sandwich.

This pub has a brick wall and a bar that runs the length of the pub as well as a dining area in the back. McShea's definitely feels like an Irish pub. It's got the decor, and the noise level is high. The service is friendly and laid back (they won't rush you). I think the appetizers are a bit overpriced to be worth it, and if you don't get an appetizer, they'll bring you bread, crackers, and crab dip on the house, which is actually quite good. As far as the food goes, I'm a fan. Their crab cakes are really good and come with sweet potato fries (and dipping sauce) steamed veggies, and coleslaw. Their fish and chips are right up there with some of the best I've had. Wonderful fish flavor, crispy and flaky, and a good portion size. Their burgers are also really good. The beer selection at McShea's is excellent. They've got over 50 bottled beers including beers from Victory, Bell's, Avery, Chimay, Ommegang, Stone, Samuel Smith's, Smuttynose, Magic hat, Rogue, Sierra Nevada, and Anchor Steam - I'm in heaven. The only complaints I've got about McShea's are their lunch menu and dessert selection. Their lunch menu is kind of limited and boring, and as for dessert, one night I was there, they only had one dessert offered, and the other night, they had two. Both desserts were store-quality (not gourmet-quality dessert like you can find at the nearby Pub of Penn Valley). Despite these complaints, McShea's is a solid 4 stars.

I have to say reading the other reviews I thought...what? So, the first time I went with a friend it was wintertime and it was bloody cold. The heat wasn't working properly. Not easy to eat with your gloves on and I'd have to say that it may have colored my experience. So, we decided to go back on a warmer day. Headed there for lunch. Found a nice booth in the rear by the window...with a torn screen AND a dead fly. Not good. Our server came quickly enough. Lunch menu not elaborate but decent selection for pub food. We ordered - burgers & a turkey club. Our drinks came. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. It was not particularly busy. Our server made sure our drinks were filled but offered nothing in the way of food updates. Finally, 30 minutes later, our food arrives. Fries are those typical batter-coated food service type. Burgers were OK. Turkey club was served on half-burnt toast. The food was decent and the service moderately attentive however the kitchen was way slow and the quality of the food just didn't warrant any kind of raves. Combine that with one freezing experience and one dead fly experience and I'd say we probably won't bother with a trip back.

It's funny, I don't disagree with many of the negative reviews, but it is still, hands down, one of my favorite places. I really wanted to like this place and the other reviews of the food seem fairly positive. On my first visit I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was fishy smelling which might sound obvious - but it smelled like fish in a bad way. I tried to eat through it (I don't like to make a fuss)... Many weeks later my thoughts continue to go back to how just how bad it was. The beer helped.

Great neighborhood bar, sure to bring in people from other communities. A little far from where I live, but when I visit my Narberth client, I make sure I stop in. Very attentive bar help, fantastic selection of beer, especially that cooler filled with probably 50 or 60 micro brews. Oh yeah, that's a great feature. Food: Got a burger once for lunch and as far as burgers go, it was memorable. Large and juicy. Don't think I finished it all. Once I was there on a very cool evening and they were putting free hors d'oeuvres on the bar, and they were very tasty. Would most definitely go there for another meal. It's kind of rustic looking, but it adds to the ambiance. Will definitely be going back again. The other good news: you won't find any hipsters. Yay!!!!!

If I could give McShea's 4.5, I would. I'm almost tempted to go "5" for the content of the menu and the awe-inspiring beer choices, but not everything on the menu is always prepared well (although a LOT of the food comes out very, very good -- much better than I ever would have expected) and the service is pretty up and down. Some of the servers are on top of their game and friendly, but some only have friendly going for them and a few seem to have neither. Still, it's a great place to take the family where the kids are ecstatic about the food, we are quite pleased with the food, AND we get a great beer with dinner.

I was amazed by burgers they have. I ordered Irish B.L.T $9. That was AMAZING. Staffs were nice too. I went there during the daytime on Saturday, so nobody was inside and it was very easy to find the parking lot but I bet you will have hard time finding a parking lot if you visit here at night. They have coin-only operated parking meters around this restaurant but if you park on Windsor Ave, you don't need to pay for parking, although you need to walk little bit.

Erin M and I went for dinner there 11/20/09. Her review has great details. Let me add: The guys behind the bar where very friendly and patient. Erin and I were very deliberative about our beer selections. We asked plenty of questions and the bartender was happy to talk to us. I had the crab cake sandwich. I highly recommend. A very, very full crab cake. And not deep fried at all. I would have it again in a heartbeat and not even consider the other options. The roll it and my wife's cheeseburger came on was fantastic. My wife let me finish her cheeseburger and that bite or two was very tasty. Very nice job on the burger. My wife's friend cut me a large piece of her fish and chips. Decent but not anything to kvell about. And it cost twice what they charge for burgers and crab cake sandwiches. To sum up: nice beer selection, get there a little early to beat the rush and order the crab cake sandwich or burger and you'll be happy.

One last observation: bathroom was filthy & that's never a good sign.

This is the bar I go to when ever I visit friends and family back home. It's not a very big town, but places like this instantly make you feel welcome. the bartenders are always very friendly, the drink selection ranges from inexpensive to moderately priced. It's also not every day that you find a beer selection that provides you with PBR, Chimay, and everything in between, especially for the suburbs. It also has an exceptional menu. I recommend the crab cakes. McShea's also has a fun open mic night every Thursday evening. it also has a quizzo night, and the occasional music performance.

This really is my go-to pub on the Main Line. When I first moved into the area about 2 years ago, I made it my goal to find a local pub with a cozy, personable feel, and of course; a great beer selection. The first time I ate at McShea's was during a day Villanova basketball game (which, by the way- this is a great place to watch sports/meet people) and it had a complete Cheers feel to it. I remember some people singing along to some song that was playing while watching the game. Everyone is always so nice here, the food is great (my favorite- the surprisingly flavorful veggie panini), the bartenders are knowledgeable about beer and approachable, and they've always got something fun going on. They also have this great bourbon mayo dip that they serve with fries, and they serve a FANTASTIC horseradish-crabby dip with bread to accompany dinner. Yum!

It had been years since I set foot in McShea's and, fortunately, it is just as great today as I recalled it to be. The oversized chicken cheesesteak makes for a filling, enjoyable lunch. McShea's uses thick cuts of chicken and the cooks know how to properly season it. So many places overuse black pepper like it's a weapon to protect the meat from your menacing mouth but the conservative approach here is much more inviting. The prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly, and both the food and drink are plentiful. As far as neighborhood bars go, McShea' is Narberth's shining star.

Another restaurant in town lost our reservation for 18 one sat night and Mcsheas accomodated us very quickly and with great service. Ive also been there a few times with my teen who loves the quesadilla's. If you have only one choice in what to order there on a cold , winter's night--- go with their HOT TODDY. Irish whiskey and water with a little bit of sugar and clove-studded lemon slices. It was to die for and I've told at least 25 people about this drink. Enjoy.!

I really like the atmosphere here; it's very laid back. The food is pretty good and staff is very nice. The cheese fries are good. The black bean burger is odd (not necessarily bad) - it's like loose black beans held together with what seems like refried bean paste or something. I'm making it sound gross, but it's actually alright, although I will probably try something else on the menu next time. My friend got a huge Irish coffee that I could smell from across the table (and it smelled great). The location in downtown Narberth right around the corner from the movie theater and down the street from the train station is great too. I will definitely be making this my pub-of-choice in the Main Line.

Ah, McShea's. It's the best pub in Narberth (and there are four, which is a lot for a small town). McShea's is welcoming, has really good food (although I'm not so sure about their "Irish sushi"), and a decent beer selection on tap and in bottles. The servers and bartenders are friendly, and if you're a local, you'll probably know most of the clientele already. And if you're Irish like me, you'll love the decor. McShea's is just an all-around good local watering hole. My favorite part about McShea's (aside from the fact that I can walk there) is its involvement in the community. During the fall and spring Narberth music fests, when Haverford Ave. is closed to vehicles, they open their doors wide to sell seasonal drinks and beer that you can take outside to enjoy the music. They also hold seasonal events like a pumpkin carving contest, and they started a dinner of the month club, which has a rotating seasonal fixed price special menu one night a month. This last month's dinner of the month special was a three course meal using pumpkin as the main ingredient. How cool is that?

To be avoided. Greasy, fatty sandwiches, although if you like fatty meat and greasy fries, you'll love the portions. Horrible, rude service. Wear a coat in winter in the back room--it's a meteorological and hospitality Siberia there. I really can't understand how this place gets any positive ratings. Maybe if you live a block away and you don't want to drive to have a beer, this place might suffice. But there are literally dozens of better options if you live outside of Narberth. And why is this place regarded as a beer mecca? It had six or seven draft beers at most.

I absolutely love McShea's-mostly because I can walk here lol. But the owners and staff are very nice and attentive. The guests are young but not too young and there is a nice diversity of types of people that go here. There are tvs but not too many. Cozy bathroom but it is well kept. The drinks are affordable and bartenders are amazing. It has a nice, welcoming atmosphere that invites you in and makes you feel like you are in a bar similar to Cheers. No one rushes you or makes you feel uncomfortable, and it is so nice and laid back. Super great beer selection, too!!!!!

Wow, what a great selection of beers in this little neighborhood bar. Stopped in there for lunch. Pretty basic fare for a bar, but with a slight twist. Prompt service, very courteous staff. Would definitely go there again. Especially when thirsty!

McShea's is an awesome find in a small town like Narberth. The service is wonderful and very welcoming, and the food is great too! I go there at least once a week and enjoy the local bartenders, great selection of beer, and their menu. Usually on Friday and Saturday nights they also have some really great specials, ranging from Tuna steak to seared Sirloin to more casual fare. McShea's has casual menu options, and full meal traditional staples for a great price.

I've only been here once (so far) but I was far and away impressed. The SO and I came for lunch one day during World Cup (quite possibly the best day to come ever) and enjoyed the atmosphere, the game, and the food. I had a veggie wrap, and it was quite excellent. I'll definitely be back!

I've only gone here for food--the food is my favorite in Narberth. The salads are SOOOO good. I've never had a bad meal here. It can get loud as the night goes on, but it's a typical pub--loud people, good drinks, excellent food. And huge portions. Doesn't disappoint.

Delicious $20 16oz prime rib with great mashed. Drink a RayRay. Be happy.

Just the best place to watch phillies playoff games, they give you free hot dogs and its a great, tight knit atmosphere.
