I've stopped here for lunch twice on weekdays in the last month. The service is quick, the food is priced fairly and the atmosphere is welcoming. It was nice to see so many families in the restaurant. I've gotten two sandwiches here so far and the grilled cheese with pulled pork has been my favorite. The pork was fresh and shredded perfectly. The rice pudding was good and the fries were pretty eh. Being able to sit down, eat semi-quickly, have dessert and a salad, and get back on the road for under $15 makes this a good place in my book.

Best bet is for breakfast. Full typical diner menu. Even if its full they don't have to wait too long.

I live nearby and will eat here on occasion. The breakfast is decent, but not spectacular. The chicken corn soup is good to very good. The rest of the menu is standard diner-style meals, executed competently, but again nothing special. The place is badly in need of renovation, or at least a good cleaning, and the service can be great, and it can be awful. It really depends on who's working and what mood they're in.

On a weekday afternoon it wasn't busy but it took forever to a waitress to sullenly take our orders. Waited 30 minutes for below average food. Container on table with sweetener was sticky from not being washed for a long time. Prices way too high for quality of food. Ladies room had trash strewn all over the floor worse than any bad truck stop bathroom I've been in. We used to think of this as a go-to spot on the way to Reading. Never again.

This is the worst place ever! Food is horrible. The service even worse. Don't waste your time

Promptly greeted, and seated. Waitress was very knowledgable of the menu and helped us with our choices. I had a phenomenal roast turkey dinner, my husband had a patty melt which was just ok, and my son said his cheese omelet was the best ever. Leave room for dessert because it looks great!

My grand father used to take me here when I was a little girl. We came back to visit an old memory and im so glad I did. The menu seemed kinda pricey... At least the dinner section... I got a chicken windmill sandwich and my fiance got the windmill burger. Both were absolutely delicious! We were seated quickly and the waitress was wonderful! We well definitely be back!

I found the food and service at this restaurant to be disgusting. The best thing you could do is keep driving.

Last weekend, my husband and I were traveling to visit family in Harrisburg and didn't feel like rest stop fast food so got off the turnpike to look for a restaurant. We spotted the Windmill and decided to give it a try. We were seated quickly and our waitress was just as prompt. As I'm catholic and couldn't eat meat on Friday because of Lent, I went with the crab cakes and they were delicious! For dessert, we had the apple dumpling to share which was equally as good! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area

We're never greeted, takes forever to be seated... as my husband says- "I never feel welcomed here." The waitresses look like they haven't showered in days or just got out of prison (maybe both).... and better yet, you LITERALLY get sick as soon as you receive your check. Seriously, had the worst food poisoning the last time a few weeks ago and trust me when we say, it will be our last time! So gross.

Windmill is great for the whole family. Breakfast served all day helps to please the kids, as well as a great kids menu. The appetizer of French bread with lump crab and cheeses was delicious. Also the down home favorites of chicken and salads. The wait staff was wonderful! And the ice cream is smooth, creamy, fantastic! They also own the winery Kog Hill which is literally right across the street. So if you want wine with dinner you can go across the street and grab a bottle.

Won't be back. Was waiting by the door to be seated. The hostess rang someone up behind the counter right next to the door, and just walked off. No greeting, no "with you in a minute," nothing. Waited with 2 other parties for about 5 minutes while the passing waitresses avoided eye contact. Finally the hostess returned, curtly asked "how many" and said "follow me." Not pleasant. Seemed like a real intrusion into her day to seat us. The waitress was efficient, but far from friendly. Didn't get coffee until after we had placed our order for breakfast. Food was nothing special, although the "eggs benedict" with creamed chipped beef on top wasn't bad. My wife's omelet was typical. A little pricey for the attitude and the food. Had I read any of the other reviews, I never would have stopped.

I hate to give a local place a bad review when it's in my home town, but please save your money! My family stopped going to this place years ago for anything other than breakfast, we figured how can you screw up eggs! Well they found a way! Service was poor, they forgot half of the order and the food just sucked!

Our usual stop on the way to Shady Maple Farm Market. Gotta eat before grocery shopping.

Stopped in for Sunday breakfast on the way home from Lancaster area. I'll admit I was a bit nervous base on some of the other reviews. Obviously the kids thought the windmill was very cool, speculating through breakfast which parts of the Resturant were powered by the windmill. I found the Resturant to be clean, and furnishings in good shape. We were seated quickly at a table for five. The staff was very pleasant and brought drinks/food in a very timely fashion. It was a solid breakfast. Nothing fancy but that's not why we were there(with three kids under 12 ; ) We had omlettes, French toast, pancakes and cinnamon buns...everyone cleaned their plates : ) coffee was refilled quickly, was brewed fresh and hot. The only negative- the bathrooms really need to be freshened up. While clean, they were very dated. All in all solid breakfast experience.

When people give it 3 starts. There's a reason behind it and I found about it, the not so tasty way. I read reviews after i ordered my food and it was too late to walk out. On my way to Jersey hopefully i find a better place for Diner.

Morgantown serves as the "gateway" to Amish country, but also an affordable bedroom community for commuters to the Western Philly burbs. As a matter of fact, this place was originally called the Gateway. As a small town has a bit of a mixed personality when it comes to food. I won't comment on any specific other reviews, but let this serve as a warning to yelpers from a local that this isn't the place to come and enjoy local PA Dutch Food. I understand why people like it - it's cute, the people are friendly, etc. It might taste how you envision it should, but it really is quite terrible, dirty behind the kitchen door, and is generally avoided by the locals. If you want good local PA Dutch food, Claire's is a better alternative, though nothing worth traveling to Morgantown specifically. Head deaper into Lancaster County to find better options.

Well, the food definitely wasn't "home made". It was cold and didn't have any flavor. We tried the empanadas which were hard on the outside and so greasy on the inside we poured out the grease... tried to send them back but the waitress brought them back stating " the owner said this is how they are supposed to be". My kids tried to eat one and ended up getting sick before there meals even got there. The meals looked like they were sitting under a heat lamp for awhile. The turkey tasted like lunch meat and was covered in canned gravy. Also the "famous" chicken corn soup was gray and the chicken tasted like rubber. Does all of there food come out of a can? I looked at the desserts and most of the "home made" pies said thrift on them which means they are seconds and they expect you to pay like $4.00 per piece. That's crazy!!! Also the apple dumplings looked like the kind you get in the grocery store. They are probably about as homemade as the pies. The "hostess" was too lazy sitting at the counter to seat us so she yelled for a busy waitress seat us. Plus she was too busy talking on the phone to even ask us how our meal was when we were paying the bill we seemed to be an inconvenience to her. I felt bad for the waitress who was so nice and apologized for the poor quality of food. We made sure the waitress got a good tip since she probably doesn't made much money in a dump like this. You couldn't pay me to eat there again.

We stopped here on a Friday night. There were very few customers in there when we arrived. We got seated and ordered our meals. As we waited for our food, many other people came in and were seated. About 15 minutes after we ordered our food, a group was seated at the table next to us. They proceeded to place their orders. They had 3 adults and 6 children. Another 10 - 15 minutes passed and the table next to us as well as many others in the room who had come in long after us, were being served their food. We had yet to get ours. My husband decided he didn't want to wait any longer. We paid for our drinks and left. the staff did not seem concerned at all that we were unsatisfied. Spend your money somewhere else.

Loved the honey-stung fried chicken, crispy fries and generous portions! Don't even think about sharing the apple pie, you'll definitely want a serving all to yourself :)

I used to work at this place. The whole restaurant is extremely dirty, kitchen included. Barely any of the food is fresh or home made like they claim it to be. Nothing is properly sanitized and the owners treat most of their non Greek staff like crap. Many people complained about hair in their food. I'm sorry, but don't waste your money.

I can tell you this about this place. The customer service is the PITS. These people need training. I have to tell you also, I ordered from this menu and the food was absolutely terrible, and besides that, they offered me something else and a Free coffee. Look, Do yourself and whoever your re traveling with....Stay out of this Place...There is other places around to eat...!

Family of four, every single meal was horrible. So bad that I don't even consider it cooking. I couldn't eat my meal. We also spent most of our time watching the waitress running around for no reason, in a mostly empty restaurant, while ignoring us. Never again.

Three of us drove to Morgantown for the apple dumplings. This restaurant was a decent size, and has ample parking. In the front, there's a diner and a gift-shop type area. We sat in the dining room, which was decorated with regional and religious paraphernalia. Their menu has a lot of choices: appetizers, soups, salads, burgers (broiled), items from the griddle, hot and cold sammiches, choice meats, seafood, poultry, Pennsylvania Dutch favorites, Italian specialities (including pasta). Hungry? They have a selection of beverages, vegetables/sides, breakfast choices, and dessert and ice cream treats. To start, we shared onion rings and chicken fingers. I went for a cup of their homemade chicken corn soup, too - a first for me! For my entree, I had their Windmill Burger ($6), a patty topped with bacon and cheddar cheese, with lettuce, tomato, and mayo on a sesame bun. On the side I had cole slaw and French fries. The whole package worked (tender and enjoyable), and I washed my burger down with a thick chocolate milkshake. (FYI, My fellow diner got a tuna melt sandwich ($5.50) which had melted swiss and american cheeses on grilled rye bread. I forget what diner #3 had...) For dessert, we shared an order of their famous apple dumpling dessert - an apple wrapped in dough and baked, with ice cream. Of course, it was pure, sweet indulgence. Worth a trip if you're in the area!

I'm going to buck the trend from other reviews by giving the Windmill four stars. Admittedly, my meals at the Windmill are seasoned with nostalgia. As a kid, I remember stopping here with my family while traveling to Lancaster County and having the best blueberry pancakes. I've dreamed about them to this day. But I base my review on more recent experiences. First, the chicken corn soup is simply delicious. House-made and hearty, the husband and I can't get the spoon in our mouths fast enough. The Windmill also has at least three types of house-made salad dressing (and oh, what a difference a house-made dressing makes to a salad!). We're not big meat eaters, so we usually go for the omelettes, pancakes, or a selection of their yummy side dishes (highlights: pickled eggs, Penna Dutch filling, with, again, house-made gravy). I've even had a fairly decent bowl of spaghetti marinara at the Windmill. And the pies and desserts (again, house-made) are a real treat. Yes, the vegetable side dishes are canned or frozen. Yes, I once ventured to try the broiled fish, and it was little better than what you'd get at a diner. But you take your chances at a restaurant where the average entree price is between $5 and $10. In a market where many restaurants are peddling mediocre food at high prices, the Windmill is offering fairly good food at very low prices. And as other reviewers have mentioned, the service is consistently warm and attentive. That is not to be underrated. For these reasons, I remain a fan.

The Windmill Family Restaurant is a mid-level family restaurant with a Pennsylvania Dutch Theme. Food at the Windmill is a mix of traditional American and Pennsylvania Dutch. Quality varies: Some items are quite good, while others are only so-so. Service is friendly and accommodating, and the dining room is typical for this type of restaurant.

This has an easy to find location from the Turnpike and has extensive menu, but that is where it ends. The food was nothing to write home to mom about and the service took forever. Having been born and raised in the area, I was looking for some great "comfort food". What I got instead was not at all comforting (and lets not even talk about the misspelled menu).

Maybe this used to be the place to go, but I certainly couldn't recommend it. Some local friends took me for breakfast saying, "don't even other wit lunch or dinner.". Well let me add breakfast to the list, my omelette was average to below average. The water tasted awful. It seems more like a gift store than a nice restaurant. There are plenty of places down the hill that would make better use of your money. Service was friendly if slow.

Just like everyone said. Came here with my family on Sat. around 5 pm. No hostess at the door for about 20 minutes while all the waiters definitely see us and 2 other parties at the door. After 30 minutes we were seated. We were ignored for another 30 minutes until we decided to giggle every time the waitress passed by as it was getting kinda funny that we kept getting ignored. We got our food after more than an hour and 20 minutes. The food was at best described as OK. Pizza was undercooked with raw dough, my sandwich was OK and my wife's liver dish looked as appetizing as a piece of meat thrown on a plate with potatoes on the side. Should have listened to the other reviewers.

We just came back from a family trip over the Memorial Day Weekend to Lancaster county and I felt this review must be written the very first thing in the morning. We stopped for dinner at the Windmill Family Restaurant and were really really dissapointed. We were attracted by how cute the place looked from outside. Well, with the first step inside we became suspicios, but decided to give it a try anyway as everyone was tired and hungry. The place stinks with mildew, the food is the worst one can imagine. If I had to turn the clock and had I known how dissapointing it would be, I would have gone to any other place as it is hard to imagine anything can be worse than this. Their special chicken vegetable stir fry was salty and not fully cooked, even the rice was from a prepacked box. The spaghetti (how can you go wrong on this one???) were not fully cooked and the marinara sause was cold. Chicken parm (classic, right?, guess no) was hard as a stone covered with some rotten melted cheese. Please, please, please stay away from the place. We could not eat the food they served and left frustrated and hungry still.

It takes a lot for me to actually give one star to a restaurant, but this one unfortunately deserved it. The food was downright bad. I ordered the roast turkey special, with sounded delicious, with cranberry sauce, stuffing, and, you'd never guess, turkey. But when I got my meal, the turkey lunch meat lathered in cold gravy was less than appetizing, with an insultingly tiny (we're talking 1 oz. or less here) plastic contained of cranberry sauce. The stuffing was drenched in gravy as well and was the best thing I had, but the stomache that I endured for the next three hours was quite unpleasant. The place itself wasn't all the bad, the service was attentive and it was a cute setup, but when I go out to eat, I judge a place on the food first and foremost, and the Windmill was lacking.

I went here with my sister and brother in law after we went to Mast Farm to go to the corn maze. After hours of walking around--we were starved. So we asked a worker whats a good place to eat at and they reccomended this place. It was nice on the outside, kinda country looking, had a country feel, a huge windmill was outside, with little knick knacks out front, when we went in we saw some people just standing around waiting to be seated, as the employees were just standing around talking and not paying customers any mind. I hate that about restaurants, like your getting paid to serve us--customers, so do your job!! So that was a bad thing, we finally got noticed and were shown to our table. There was barely any other customers in there, i dont know if it was close to closing time, or what but the place was desserted--thats not always a good sign!! So we sat down and loked through the menu, they had a wide range of different foods to choose from. I was really hungry and was interested in trying the homemade Dutch country meals. I ordered the baked ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and chicken. I just wanted the ham but the waitress said it comes with the chicken to which was a shocker---cause thats a lot of food on one plate, and you even get a salad to start off. So the order was placed and it came out in a timely fashion. It looked and smelled so delicious and to my surprise it was very yummy. The baked ham had a orange raisain glaze on it which was incredible!! So Delicious! the Mash tastes like my mommas homemade mash and the stuffing was also home made! it was so good. the chicken on the other hand, looked really dry, and over cooked. but overall it was a nice meal. Then on to dessert---my favorite part!! I got a dessert with it and chose Apple Pie, im not a big fan of apple pie but the other choice was bread pudding and i dont like that. SO i decided to also order a small vanilla icecream so I would put it on top of my pie. The pie tasted homemade and was delicious!!! I loved it!!! with the vanilla icecream on top made it so delicious. i was licking the plate... i would try this place again, it just needs to redo the inside of the place and maybe update it, to get with the times,. and have better servers who wanna help customers. but overall it was good.

I stopped at the Windmill restaurant with my family for dinner while we were on a road trip. Like others, I had heard nothing about the place but decided to try it based on the "family restaurant" ambience of the exterior. The bottom line is that the food was just okay for most of us and horrible for my choice. I ordered the meat loaf and simply couln't put a second forkful into my mouth. Thankfully, my wife shared her steak tips with me (on the specials menu that night), and they were actually decent. My kids got pasta which was okay and a turkey dinner with stuffing and mashed potatoes, which was also okay.

We like to take state road 10 from Baltimore to Reading,PA in order to see Amish farmers plowing and mowing their fields. This restaurant is a family run operation that began as an ice cream stand several decades ago. Be sure to ask which deserts were "made locally" because the home made Amish pies vary with the season. The apple dumplings are always good. Haven't had a bad meal here in 40 years.

Well, I can't believe this place actually had people that enjoyed it. I guess if you use lots of salt, eat frozen and canned foods, this is your restaurant. Not so clean either, but the waitress was sweet. My recomendation, if you enjoy good food, don't go!!!

Really normal PA Dutch food. Sort of a local diner feel to it, but decent food for a reasonable price. I wouldn't travel out of my way to eat here, but if you are hungry in Morgantown it's a safe bet.
