We have dined here twice and we enjoyed our meals both times. The mussels come with a delicious sauce and are definitely a must try! The bacon and brie crepe is also very good. The staff was very accommodating both times. They even gave us hot bread to soak up the sauce from the mussels.

Nice scotch selection. We really enjoyed the outdoor seating and the food. Server was very professional and personable. Crepe was delicious and surprisingly just the right amount of food. Duck confit salad was delicious.

I love this place. I took my girlfriend here for drinks on New Years Eve 2012. We came here for lunch last fall after picking up our marriage license at the courthouse. Yesterday we came in for a casual lunch for Valentine's Day because the impending weather forced us to cancel our dinner reservation in town. GET THE MUSSELS. Get the mussels if you're allergic to shellfish. It's worth the trip to the ER. The steak and eggs are a dream. I swapped out the potatoes for some sliced tomatoes bc I had already enjoyed the frites with the mussels. My wife raved about her tuna baguette. I don't think she meant to say it out loud but mid sandwich I heard her say, "I love baguettes." The wine flights are a must if you are not pregnant and the chocolate mouse was decadent. Needless to say, we will return.

After hearing raves about their mussels and hanger steak, we came for dinner last week. I had the green salad ($7 served with fresh mozzarella and diced fresh tomatoes, lightly but perfectly dressed with evoo and balsamic) and mussels mouliniere ($15) for dinner. Although they're listed as an appetizer, they are a generous portion served in a delicious silky smooth tomato white wine garlic broth that's so good I wanted to drink it like soup, but sopped it up with chewy fresh mini baguette type rolls instead. My husband loved his hanger steak, served with a medium-dark brown pan reduction gravy and crispy pommes frites. We each had a glass of wine- - selections were under $10 a glass. These 2 dishes were what I've heard are this restaurant's staples, and they didn't disappoint. I'd come back for the mussels.

The food is ok I will say that much. But the dinning experience is stressful and the staff is rude and condescending .. Do they think we are in Paris? We called ahead for a reservation ( 2wks can u believe that) . When we arrived to an empty restaurant ( only us!) we were seated at a cramped table with our neighboring table on top of us... Their hostess needs a lesson in manners . RUDE ... She said The computer was programmed and we had no choice of a different table? What ?!The restaurant is empty???? When we left the table we asked for was still empty along with others that would have been nice to have...Our waiter recognized the stupidity of the hostess and to his credit he tried to reason with the staff ... What could've been a nice time turned stressful and CRAMPED!!! Warning: when u make a reservation tell them to put in the computer u want a window seat.

My wife and I were walking down the street in Media trying to choose from the many choices of where to eat lunch. We picked La Belle Epoque and were glad we did. Everything was fresh and delicious. Service was quick and friendly. I just wish it wasn't 2 hours away from home.

Tried La Belle for lunch on a weekend with my family, and was overall a little disappointed. I was looking forward to a good crepe, but the chicken, spinach and mushroom crepe was just OK, and a little bland. What was more disappointing was that my sister (a vegan) and my nephew (allergic to dairy), really didn't have anything to choose from on the menu, and the sandwiches were apparently pre-prepared because they weren't customizable. Everything was too pricey, especially for lunch, and the service was slow and seemed careless. I don't think I'll be going back here - they are definitely not up to par with the rest of the Media State St. restaurants.

I'm a bit surprised by the reviews and rating I'm reading here, granted the ratings are thrown off a bit by the jackass who voted it a 1 star but has never actually been here. My 5 star review is not a balancing act. From my one trip to Belle, it truly deserves it. The food was outstanding! Between my girlfriend, my sister and myself we ordered 3 $5 food specials a $9 crepe, wine of course, and desert. Not expensive at all in my book. Keep in mind this may be "the burbs", but it IS State St. Just by coming to this street you will be paying higher prices. There are definitely some things on the menu that are $20-30, but you don't need to order them to have a solid meal. There is plenty for a modest budget. If you're a portion stickler go to Felini's, pay $16 for terrible Italian food and have leftovers for 3 days, but in my opinion food you can't eat in one sitting is the oldest trick in the book. If you are looking for a unique dining experience with a good wine selection, this is highly recommended. You may have to venture a little bit out of your safety net with this one. I was drawn in by the duck ravioli but never actually ordered. The one dish we ordered that, for me, was definitely far out of the norm was a shrimp ceviche. If you're unfamiliar with that, it is shrimp marinated in acidic juices, in this case lime, for a period of time. However long that is, I don't know, but the juices "cook", for lack of a better word, the shrimp. It never actually hits the heat, but the coloration and texture would make you think it did. This was just bursting with flavor. If anyone in the party is a "picky" eater there is an 8oz angus burger with fresh cut fries on the menu, although if that's what you're planning on ordering I'd say you're better off somewhere else. It's also worth mentioning that Belle is one of the few restaurants that still serve REALLY good bread as an appetizer to diners. I'm by no means a wine expert, so I suppose a wine snob might say that the wine list is just "ok", but I do enjoy drinking wine on a weekly basis and thought it was a great selection. Also the owners set the prices so that it makes more fiscal sense to order by the glass, rather than a price discount by the bottle, in order to promote experimentation of different types of wine during one dining experience. Really cool. Belle was super down to earth from my experience, not pretentious at all or overly trendy which is exactly why I walked out of Azie into this place. It was a great mix of people. A couple of media hipsters drinking beer and eating appetizers at the bar, quiet dinners at the tables in the corner and people drinking wine and eating at the bar top tables in the windows. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable and really fun to talk with. He wasn't just yelling a menu he nervously memorized before walking in that night like you get from young waiters in many restaurants. The menu flowed off this man's tongue. He was experienced and really knew and loved wine and food. My one criticism is the nutella desert crape. We did eat it all, and it was ok I guess. But come on... its nutella. As Obama has said, "You can put lipstick on a pig, but its still a pig". Take this one off the menu. 5 stars, no doubt.

I have tried Le Belle Epoque a couple of times when I wanted the full brunch experience, bloody mary and all. After being blah the first time, I figured it was fair to give them a second chance. I was right the first time, it was blah. Too expensive for a not so special omelette...though I did enjoy the bloody mary.

Great wine list, excellent menu! Beautiful decor and up-lighting and service was excellent. Our party of 4 had the sirloin, salmon, duck and sea bass special. If you're not into duck, order the salmon--it is perfect. We cleaned our dinner plates and ordered creme brulee, tiramisue and (my fav) nutella crepes. So, 2 drinks each, one appetizer, 4 entrees, 3 desserts...appx $200 not including tip. On the more pricey side but we definitely got our money's worth. I don't mind spending money for a great experience and good food!

I ate at La Belle Epoque last night. We sat outside so I cannot say anything about the inside decor except that it looked cute from the doorway. It was Dining Under the Stars Night in Media. It didnt used to be so good, a new guy bought it and the restaurant next to it (also very good- Picasso). I had the escargo(amazing!!! sauce =]), mussels, and my parents both had the steak au poivre and I had the hanger steak with shallot sauce with a side of hand cut fries. AWESOME!!, my parents loved the wine... i wouldnt know, im still underage. Our waiter was very nice, probably one of the best I've had in a while. Dessert---- YUM. THe creme brulee was fabulousss and the crepe with strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries -fresh thin jam? -- it was also very good they have a new wine bar-- they serve 3oz and 5oz glasses of wine so you can try everything

never actually been there. thwarted in many attempts. leads me to wonder how they stay in business... was thinking of checking the place out on a late saturday afternoon and they were closed. dropped by one time for a later dinner and they only serving drinks, dinner service ended at nine. it's a joke.

Great restaurant! We were in the area for Swarthmore's graduation and were a party of six. We were seated immediately even though half our group was late. The service was friendly and attentive, without being pushy. (rthank you , Wes!) Food was terrific. We kept passing plates.."here taste this" ! The creme brulee was outstanding. We'd gdefinitely go back if ever in Media again.

My husband and I had brunch on Sunday. The crepes were dry overdone and without the white cream sauce as described. We live in Media and this restaurant deserves two thumbs down. The waitress and the wine list were excellent. We both had, two glasses of wine, cup of soup and crepe for a grand total of $67.00. Never Again.......

I have eaten here before and had so-so meals, pretty much because I don't like crepes and the other offerings we tried were not wonderful. However, my husband and I went here for dinner last Friday and our experience was much different. Our waiter was very down to earth and knowledgeable about the food and also very attentive. We ordered the simple garden salad, which was wonderfully health, fresh and abundant. My husband had an amazing seafood special with all kinds of shell fish and lobster in a delicious spicy sauce we couldn't stop sopping up with our bread. And I had the duck with frites and hericot vert which I loved. We had a lovely glass of pinot each and the bill came to 78.00. We thought this was reasonable and we had a great time. Our only criticism was that our salad came out with the entrees instead of first. Also the brunch is great with wonderful omelets at a great price...

My husband and I love the brunch menu at La Belle Epoque. I get more of the lunch options. The chicken panini and belle burger are amazing. I wish the sandwiches came with fries as their fries are also really good, but you have to order those extra. My husband loves all of the omlettes (he's tried all of them). They come with side salad and cubed potatoes (which I steal since the panini doesn't come with fries). The waitstaff is all very friendly. Really a cute place.

This is a great place to eat in Media if you're there, but I wouldn't make a special trip from the city to go. The menu isn't too big, and everything is between 8 and 15 dollars. The food is delicious, and it seems somewhat authentic. I've been there twice (once for brunch with a date and once for a solo lunch). The staff is friendly and pleasant, but weren't very knowledgeable about the food or the wine. On the other hand, the service was spectacular, and my waiter was a friendly, interesting guy. I recommend trying either a crepe or a quiche with one of their interesting white wine selections like Cooralook.

My wife and I stopped in last night for a quick dinner. It was a little better than OK. My wife got one of the crepes and was happy. I got the beef stew from the specialties menu. The stew was flavorful and the perfect meal for a cold, rainy evening. But, the noodles it's served with were clumped together and a bit dry. Furthermore, I bit down twice on two large peppercorns. Am I being picky? Yes. But only to make the point that the dishes are not expertly prepared. When I think French cuisine, I think perfect execution and attention to detail. While satisfying, this meal was not stellar. I'd give the place another try, for sure. The wine selections were excellent and the service was above average. The house was clean, but not spotless.

Food came out quick, bartender was great, place needs some attention b/c food is slightly above average. they serve very classic french bistro fare.

Quaint little French Cafe in Media. Stopped by for a late lunch with my sis. The place is nicely decorated inside, plants, posters on the wall, nice background music. There are lots of seats inside and a few outside. Not really a fine dining place if you are looking for that. The lunch menu consisted of salads, crepes, paninis and some soups. I had the La St. Jacques crepe, which was a crepe with pan seared scallops and a leek sauce. The scallops were excellent. Fresh and very tasty, as was the leek sauce. The crepe was just okay, a bit on the hard side, but okay. My sis had the Le Vegetarian panini, which came with portabello mushrooms, eggplant, roasted red pepper and goat cheese. She thought it was pretty good, however it would have been better if it had mozzarella cheese instead. To top things off we had the tiramisu and creme brulee for dessert. The creme brulee was great. Had a nice crunchy top, which some places neglect to do right, so I was impressed. The tiramisu was pretty good as well. Pretty nice mix of dishes that were decently priced and tasty. A nice addition to Media's growing dining scene.

I give it 3 stars for effort. I ordered a hanger steak and they forgot to season the steak! My fiancé ordered a crepe with scallops & spinach and it was ok. I love their dessert choices though, I had the frozen coffee mousse and it was like eating ice cream.

Never got a chance to sample the food, we were told no tables were available when clearly there were 8 to 10 seats set for dining as well as all but one seat at the bar were available. Do not recommend based on the rude greeting we received.

Stopped in here for brunch today a little after noon. My party of 4 was seated right away without a reservation, which was nice, considering it's a Sunday. The atmosphere of the restaurant is cute and they try and make it seem as French as possible. The menu has a large variety for brunch with options ranging from omelettes to crepes to burgers & french dips to french toast and etc. I was very impressed with the length of the menu! I ended up ordering the spinach omelette, which had spinach, roasted peppers, tomatoes, and goat cheese. It also came with roasted potatoes and a side salad. Everything on the plate was phenomenal! The omelette was cooked to perfection and had just the right ratio of each ingredient. The roasted potatoes were seasoned perfectly and the side salad was a nice touch instead of the usual toast or breakfast meat. Overall, it was a good meal and i'd come here again if i'm ever in the area. I'm only knocking it down a star because the service was kind of slow and it seemed like our waiter was struggling to manage all the tables he had. Also, I was brought hot coffee when I asked for iced, but our waiter quickly fixed it for me once I alerted him of his mistake.

  • Joe S.

It was not that good. The French onion soup was missing something, don't know what but something. The pear soup was cold and refreshing if a bit bland. The Poulet Roti was way too salty. The ratatouille was average. The Canard a la Framboise tasted rather average. The crepe suzette was the only really good item we ate. This place wasn't cheap so all in all, it's not worth the money.

Hands down, a must try if you're in Media for dinner. As a guy who doesn't necessarily dine on French food a lot, I had my reservations, but this was a A+ experience from top to bottom with some fantastic food and service, as well as a great atmosphere. This is one spot when done right, you won't be regretting in the future. Atmosphere - On the corner of State Street sits the Cafe. On a warm summer night, we entered passing by diners eating outside to eat indoors at a charming small cafe. A full bar of wines and beers, as well as velvet curtains greeted our arrival. A few adorned paintings, and some fans to keep the summer air circulating really helped us to enjoy our seat and view of the people walking own State Street. Waitstaff - Our waitress did a fantastic job throughout the meal. She made some great recommendations for the older diners in our party, as well as brought food out with other runners in a perfect timing for each plate. The runners were also very attentive in bringing extra water, drinks, and bread as needed for us to enjoy our meal. Food - The highlight of my review, the food here was no less then outstanding. With a large party, we had an option to try many foods. As a table, we went with the red mussels. To put it bluntly, these are on par with some of the best I've ever had, and I've tried mussels all over the world. Hands down, phenomenal texture and flavor, as well as an amazing sauce to dip bread in that was flawless. My compliments to the chef here. We also went with a cheese board with fresh options, and a beet salad which was great on a warm night. My meal came as a part of the price fix menu which included a chicken and dumpling soup which was very nice, a normal dinner size portion of the salmon with a maple bacon crumble and glaze which was fantastic, as well as desserts. For the table, desserts included sweet crepes which were delicious, a chocolate molten cake which was very good, and a creme brulee which two diners enjoyed very much. In a party of six, we couldn't find one bad item or meal that anyone ordered. Intangibles - Couple things to consider here, the bathrooms are a bit awkward if you need to use them, and are down a steep stairwell. They did have the ability to use a connected bar next door as well which was okay. Parties of six or more are automatically charged a gratuity, so don't let that surprise you if you decide to go. Restaurant is very small, so plan to make a reservation if you're going. Overall - La Belle Epoque is one of my new favorite restaurants to go back to in Media, and this is coming from a guy who was hesitant in the first place. Guys, this is a great date spot, and won't necessarily break the bank if you're trying to impress your date. Atmosphere, Service, and Food trifecta was top notch, and this is one of the most highly recommended places I can make on Yelp. Well done to the staff and chef, I look forward to being back very soon.

Disappointing. Staff was rude. Food was really under seasoned and just luke warm. Boyfriend and I both had crepes. He said the crab was good. My duck crepe tasted more like a duck cheesesteak with pears and walnuts. Reviews were so good here and Open Table I was excited to try it. Won't be back.

They have really good food here. I get the cheese plate and have never been disappointed. Their specialties are delicious. I've had the Salmon and it was cooked perfectly. Their wine flights range from $10 to $12 and are a great way to try three different wines before you choose a bottle.

Went there for dinner during "Dining Under the Stars". Got seated around 6:50pm and placed our order within 10 mins. We both ordered the special which was halibut ($28) and the ribeye steak with robster mash potatoes and veggies ($33). The wife loved the halibut and the steak was awesome with the lobster mash potatoes. I asked for medium rare but it came out medium, the steak was still very good. We both had some wine and i had a beer. The bill came up to arou d $100 w/o tip. I docked 1 star cuz it took 45 mins to get our food. A waiter did update us with the food saying it was only 3 mins out but still ended up being 10 until we got it. Understood it was during "Dining Under the Stars"

Ate here for brunch a few weeks back and the place was deserted! I had French toast and my husband had the croque monsuer. The service was good, and the server was very friendly. I think the food was just ok though; tasted good but not amazingly good. After traveling to France I had really high hopes for an authentic French dining experience!

After several months this year, the restaurant seems to have changed considerably, especially when it comes to service. Usually the waitstaff is pretty decent if not great, but the past few times I've come here, the waiters have been completely unfriendly, absent, and even bored looking. Like they're getting paid for standing around talking in the back, and they're serving because there's nothing else to do. Lately, the food has also seen a drop in quality, the meats dry, salads peppered with mushy greens, and the potatoes not fully cooked. The wine is good as always, but the waitstaff really have been keeping me away lately.

Initially I did not have high hopes for La Belle Epoque - having read the menu and passed by many times - it just never appealed French food? Not my fave. Meanwhile, we went here last night and had very good service and EXCELLENT food. And the best part? One of the tastiest French 75 cocktails ($10) made to perfection. The only food downer? The French Onion Soup which had way. way toomuch rosemary - as in sticks 'n twigs of it. (Not salty though - and served in a Big bowl for $8). The best part? Both entrees- mine and DH's. He had the Duck confit crepe - which I tasted and we both loved. I had the duck with raspberry sauce - cooked to perfection (I like my duck with plenty of quack still left in it). The haricot vert and fluffy (buttery-chivey) mashed potatoes were also divine. I shall return. And I will bring our 9 year old - she loves duck, Very pleased!!! Nice place for a date night, too. Much smaller inside than I had imagined.

Really disappointing. The seared tuna was way overdone, although our waiter adamantly assured us that it was medium, though it was pretty well done, and did not even offer to replace it. He was also very curt and unfriendly toward us): We also tried the Basil Gnocchi, Escargot, and Salmon, which were all okay, nothing to note haha. The decor is also dusty, and the service subpar, seeing that I had to go get the check myself after the episode with the tuna. I would definitely recommend going to another restaurant if you are in the area!

Visited: Sunday - February 16, 2014 - 6PM The menu offered a decent variety but I chose the thirty dollar prix fixe. I ordered the soup de jour - lobster bisque. The soup was barely warmed but tasty. I ordered the Onglet a l'Echalote (hanger steak, shallot sauce, and fries). The fries were limp and clearly reheated. The hanger steak was slightly tough and overcooked. The shallot sauce was unremarkable. The choice of dessert was creme brulee or chocolate mousse. I said surprise me. The server surmised my facial expression and determined his course. The server quickly returned with a pre-made, refrigerated mousse. The mousse was tasteless. Evidently a brief pass of a torch to braise the top of a sugar-topped cream (creme brulee) was unreasonably difficult.. No one asked if I wanted coffee or tea. The service was good but, the overall experience was very disappointing.

Really like this place for something different in Media. Been here about 10 times since they opened years ago. The food is always fresh, well made and a pleasant difference in a town full of restaurants that are starting to blend together anymore. Note to owner: Please train staff to not spray Fantastic onto tables to clean them. Third time I've gotten a noseful of it while I was eating. It'll get just as clean if the busperson sprays it on the rag in another room and comes back to wipe the table. The place is just too small for cleaning solutions to become airborne. Today our serer Robert was very good. Attentive and not overbearing. He suggested the ginger cocktail as it was a "party in a glass" and it was. My friends will return for that alone. We had La Lanard( sic)- a duck, walnut and fontina crepe which was awesome served with side greens. The Eggs Benedict with side of asparagus and potatoes- Also very good. Both of us had the French Union soup which we adored.

Hard to write a review when you show up at 1:35 pm and they tell you they are closed. Their pretentiousness has finally allowed me to see the light. Last time I showed up in the middle of lunch, very slow and they wouldn't give me change for the parking meter. Too many other options to deal with their shit. If you hours are 10:00 am to 2:00 pm then you need to abide by that.

I recently dined here with a group of my girlfriends for a birthday dinner. It was one of the greatest birthday dinners ever! We started at the bar with a few glasses of wine. There is a great wine list and the bartender was very knowledgeable. We moved to a table for dinner. The waitress was great and friendly. We each ordered a different dish so we could try everything. And EVERYTHING was awesome. We had scallops, duck, steak, and salmon and every single thing was perfect! The salmon was a standout. We ordered another bottle of wine and dessert. We split the creme brûlée and a chocolate lava cake. Both were delicious. When we were trying to figure out whether to order more drinks we asked when they closed. They told us 9 and laughed because it was 9:45!!! We apologized and asked for the check. They told us it wasn't a problem and told us to take our time. We never felt rushed. It really was an amazing night. Thank you!

I've been here for brunch a few times. The food is quite good. It's a great place for breakfast if you're looking for something more upscape than a diner. On the down side, seating is limited.

We were here with two toddlers during brunch on Sunday. The food was outstanding and the server we had was more than accomodating. I ended up taking my son outside to walk around while we waited for our food. When we returned, I was greeted by an onion omelette and my son had a beautiful fruit salad. I would absolutely come back for a date night with my husband. It is lovely and the food was great!

Had dinner here last night and was extremely disappointed. Price was high for a mediocre restaurant in Media. Crepes were heavy and looked more like a panini than a light and fluffy crepe. I will say the escargot and wine was good. I would come back for a drink, the decor was lovely, but the food? Definitely not!

If you are looking for a quick meal, this is not the place. It's often crowded and even when it is not, it takes quite some time to get your food but if you are looking for the most amazing Moules Frites (yes mussel and fries) this is the place! I have yet to find anywhere that can match this dish and it's one of my favorites.

My fiancée and I have been regular patrons to this restaurant for three years now. The first meal the two of us had together after getting engaged was at La Belle Époque. We go there so often that one of the waiters always stops us to talk when we walk our dog in Media. Last Friday, we decided to go there after both of us having rough weeks. The restaurant was empty and we ask to be seated at our favorite table by the curtain separating the kitchen/bussing area from the dining room. In between our appetizers and entrees the two of us heard the wait staff making fun of my last name in a very nasty way. When I asked what was so funny one of the waiters (same one who always stops us to talk and the same one who frequently receives 20-25% from us) lied through his teeth and said that they weren't talking about me. Since both of us clearly heard this, it wasn't a case of me just imagining things. The food has usually been good here, if not a little over priced. But we have always gone for the familial feeling we got while dining here. Needless to say we are very disappointed and upset. I'm writing this review because despite repeated attempts, the owner will not return my calls. I am not looking for a comp because chances are that I won't feel comfortable going back again, but he should at least educate his wait staff not to ridicule patrons when they think they aren't being heard.

This is my new favorite restaurant! I thought the staff was very attentive and friendly. And if you're into nouveau French cuisine this is definitely the place for you. There aren't many dishes with the typical over the top creamy base you normally get with French food - this is something different. Definitely worth trying!

Been here a few times and have found that the best thing to get here are the mussels and fries. The crepes are just meh. The dinner/lunch entrees we got were good too but I can't remember what we got because all I can remember is how fantastic the mussels were. They are so good, our 3 year old goes bonkers over them. The dining area is a bit cramped and the bathrooms are downstairs in a completely unheated area. Unless you're in the Media area, I wouldn't go out of my way to seek this restaurant out but if you're in town and you're itching for mussels and beer, this is the place to go

This is a Media gem - perfect for a quiet dinner or just a glass of wine. I could give it four or five stars, but I'll go with 4 for now. A few of the big wins: mussels and fries, beef bourguignon, and their fish...especially le poisson japonais, a striped bass dish to write home about again and again. Desserts range from good to great. To top it off, the place is typically not too busy, particularly on weeknights. On balance, I have to say this is the the #1 restaurant in Media. Basically, when my wife and I are debating where to have a nice meal in the western suburbs, it usually ends up being either Belle Epoque or La Porta.

My mom and I had lunch at La Belle Epoque this weekend, and I foresee us coming here many, many times in the future. We called a few days ahead of time and made reservations for Saturday at noon. The bistro was small but cute- we loved the decor. There was an area of tables in the back of the room, and most of them were occupied. We instead decided to sit at a high top table in the front of the restaurant, near the bar. It was quiet and the perfect table- we also got to people watch through the front window :-). Our waiter was awesome. He came over and asked took our drink order, and suggested mimosas ($8 each). My mom and I love mimosas, so we went for it! They were a bit small, but incredibly tasty- and the perfect ratio of bubbly to OJ. My mom ordered the cream of tomato soup (the soup of the day, $5) and the crepe called "La Provencale"- it had olives, plum tomatoes, spinach, onions, goat cheese & pesto sauce ($11). I ordered the onion soup ($6) and the croque-monsieur with french fries ($8). Our soup came out in a few minutes, and they were both amazing. The cream of tomato was so light and tasty and interesting, and unlike any other cream of tomato soup I've had before. I could say the exact same thing about the onion soup- when it first came I was surprised, it didn't look very traditional- however, it tasted amazing. My mom and I were trying to guess all the herbs used in it, and I would definitely order it the next time I come. Both of our bowls were quickly emptied. Two thumbs up. Our entrees came right after. Their crepes are made with buckwheat flower, and I can't think of a single negative thing to say about the crepe- even the side salad was interesting and tasty. My mom had trouble finishing her whole plate, so I helped out a bit at the end! My croque-monsieur was authentic, and it transported me to a cafe in Paris. I always order a croque-monsieur, both at French restaurants here and in France, and this was one of the best I've ever had. The french fries were addictive, and I couldn't stop eating them! As we were eating, my mom and I kept talking about how good everything was. Overall, lunch was awesome. The food was amazing and not expensive, the service was great, the decor was cute, and the meal was very relaxing. We'll definitely be back quite frequently in the future!

I live and work in Media, so I've experienced almost every restaurant in town. There are lots of excellent choices, but for me, La Belle Epoque stands out. They have the best coffee (La Colombe), the best burger, and absolutely the most wonderfully French fries in town. Often I'll choose a quiche or omelette for lunch; the portions are generous, the vegetables very fresh, and the cheeses are several steps above. Recently, I've been addicted to the mussels, which are large and tender. And I have to say, the attentive waiters and waitresses with real French accents adds a lovely spice to the meal.

This is a cool wine bar in Media. I love the wine flights for a reasonable price. The beet salad was out of this world good. Greens were crisp and fresh. Beets were cut thin and tastey. The Goat Cheese Mouse was outstanding and rememberable. The Crepe was ok. We order the La Traditionelle (Ham, egg & Swiss cheese) it was more of a breakfast wrap than what I had hoped... crepe croque monsieur. They were out of mussels - next time I'm going to try that.

My fiancee and I stopped here for a late night dinner and were very pleasantly suprised. I had a specialty beef stew and my fiancee went for a salmon plate. Both were excellent, and in portions such that we had lunch the next day. Equally as impressive was the service. The waitress and barkeep were both extremely polite and very friendly; the service was prompt to the point that they anticipated our needs before we realized them ourselves. We were one of three groups at the time, so there was minimal noise and relaxed atmosphere. The presenation of the establishment was largely enjoyable, all in keeping with what I assume a trendy french cafe would look like. The menu presents itself particularly well, with excellent flair and graphics. It is on the pricy side, but the experieince was far more than I was expecting. Well done.

Romantic French place on the corner, playing Edith Piaf and such. Refreshing and large choice of wines by the glass, many French as you would expect -- and they have Orangina soda by the bottle! Nothing much plant-based on the menu, but it is a quiet spot for relaxing during the day, and you can sit outside. Beautiful glassware is always a plus. And it's a small thing, but their stone coasters with their logo are very nice too. Wonder what this place is like on the weekend.

When you walk in the lights are dimmed and the drinks are very well made. I recommend having a Shirley temple. The waiters are very thoughtful. And the music they play is nice. It's usually not that crowded which is very nice also. When you're having an early dinner I recommend this restaurant. I also recommend the hanger steak. The duck is remarkably tasty. And the green beans are remarkable themselves. Décor There is a wall of corks right next to the kitchen. And there is a shelf of wine bottles. There are French posters on the wall. Another thing I like is the waiters are dressed nicely. PEACE OUT

I stopped at La Belle Eqoque with my mom on a Thursday evening for our weekly "date night". It was a beautiful day and around 6:30-7:00 it was still sunny so we asked to be seated outside. We ordered the cheese, dried fruit, and chocolate plate to start, which was not very large, but perfect sharing size for two people. I ordered the mussels and my mom had the scallop crepe. Both were very delicious, but as my waiter told me, the mussels we're to DIE for! Whatever the sauce is that they cook them in, kind of reminds me of a vodka sauce, is the best part. They give you extra bread to soak it up. Sooo good!

When I moved to the area, I was excited to try this place out. The service wasn't very friendly (our server seemed annoyed to serve us for no apparent reason). We started with the escargot which was the worst I've ever had. I was happy there was salt on the table because I had to add a ton. My husband had the hanger steak and I had the beef bourguignon. The beef bourguignon was overwhelmed with rosemary and the hanger steak was just okay. The side of spinach was oily and flavorless. Altogether, I do not recommend unless you're going for a glass of wine.

I was torn between 4 and 5 stars, but I gave 'em the benefit. The food was excellent, the decor and service were OK, but come for the food. That's the most important thing, right? There was a group of 6 people, three couples, and we all loved everything they brought out. If you're looking for creative, fusion stuff, this isn't the place. If what you crave is standard French bistro fare, done well - this is your spot. The escargot were fantastic, the mussels sublime, the duck, salty, crispy, sweet - oh my goodness. Even the green beans in butter were delicious. Lastly, the creme brulee was as advertised - fantastic. The wine list is pretty solid to pair up with your food choices. All in all, we had a memorable dinner. We will definitely go back.

I really wanted to like La Belle Epoque. I read some of the bad reviews before going and thought people were just being overly picky. Boy was I wrong, and I wish I had listened to those reviews and gone elsewhere! My husband, brother, sister-in-law, and I dined here last Friday (6/22/12). We went to La Belle Epoque to try out a new (to us) place and to celebrate my husband's promotion that we'd just found out about. We had a 7:30 reservation, and our experience at the restaurant was miserable from beginning to end. I don't ever plan to return to this restaurant, and I would tell anyone who asks me about it the same--that's how bad our experience was. And in my 29 years of life, I think I can only say that about 1 other restaurant and it was a lousy chain restaurant, which is what I've come to expect from such establishments. Let me begin with the good: I love the decor in the restaurant. The hostess was friendly, and we didn't have to wait for our table. The escargot was delicious! My brother was very happy with his entree, duck a l'orange. That's it. Now the bad. We ordered some appetizers to share: escargot and the cheese plate. First of all, they charge $12 for six tiny pieces of cheese that couldn't have added up to more than 1/4 of a pound of cheese total--that's highway robbery, and the waitress should have warned us about how small the plate is, since we made it clear we planned to share it between 4 people. She did not. Secondly, when the plate was brought to our table, the expediter did not tell us any of the names of the cheeses. So I asked and she grabbed someone else to come explain the cheese plate to us. This person (I think it was the manager) described the cheeses but still didn't tell us the cheese names, even after I explicitly asked (I can only presume she didn't know either). We ordered drinks (wine) and entrees at the same time we placed our appetizer order, and then the waiting began. We had arrived at 7:30, and while the appetizers were brought promptly, we waited for our entrees for 50 minutes, which is unacceptable (they arrived around 8:45). Our waitress did stop by at one point to say, "Your entrees should be ready soon," which I suppose was her version of an apology, however, even after that, we waited another 15 minutes. My husband and I ordered the lamb chops, his medium, mine medium rare. Both of our plates came out well done. I sent mine back, but he kept his because he doesn't mind overcooked meat (even though to me, his still wasn't cooked to the standard he'd requested, and we told the waitress that). My sister-in-law ordered the flounder, and she found 4 pin bones in it, one of which she almost swallowed. My brother ordered the duck a l'orange, and he loved it and had no complaints about it. At one point the waitress did stop by to apologize about my lamb and refill 2 water glasses on our table, but she skipped mine which I'd passed over to be filled because it was empty. I had to flag her down to get her to refill it. After about 15 minutes, she brought out my fresh plate of lamb chops which were cooked just as I'd requested, medium rare. This time, however, the sauce and the french fries were inedibly salty. My husband and brother both tried them and said the same thing. I didn't, however, have the heart to send it back again, so I just picked at the meat and left the fries on the plate. I expected, with all the trouble we'd had (though, in fairness, my sister-in-law did not alert the waitress to the bones she'd found), that we'd get comped for something, like not being charged for the wine or 10% off our bill or something--but, we got nothing. Instead we paid almost $200 (including tip) for one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life. And because I don't feel that it's fair to penalize waitstaff for problems in the kitchen, which were our most serious complaints, we still tipped our waitress pretty well in spite of some of the problems with her service, but we left the restaurant all saying, "We would never go back to that place." One final note, I contacted the manager via email to tell her in detail about our experience and see how she would have handled it the night of, and this is the response I got: "Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry to hear of your bad experience. I will take your experience into account for the future." Basically a form email and terrible customer service!

The brunch is awesome. (Including the coffee!) Every time we go, we have a great time. The bar is small and intimate. Tom and Dan (the two barkeeps we have met thus far) are friendly, know quite a bit about wine and make great cocktails. Dining at a table has a very different feel. The servers let us be and we never felt rushed. This is a place where you can come in, relax and spend some quality time with friends and family.

I was looking for a place to sit by myself in Media . . . for some reason, every place thought it was a brilliant idea to play really loud music on Sunday afternoon. So, I stumbled upon La Belle Epoque because its sound was the least offensive on the street. What a great find!! The wine list is terrific. The staff was lovely. It was the perfect place to go solo . . . or I must imagine would also be perfect for a date. Definitely stop by.

Still the same old, same old. Overpriced, underseasoned. Haute prices, bas cuisine. The decor is still Parisian, the food still not worth the trip. Go to Parc or Bibou downtown if you are craving reasonably priced French food. If you must get French food in Media, go to the French-Thai place across the street. At least it's cheaper (if still not very good). As I always say: getting high end food in Delaware County is almost impossible (outside of Masamoto in Glen Mills, of course).

This place is as uneven as the Badlands of South Dakota. You can go there and have a pleasant meal with some decent wine at a not-ridiculous-if-slightly-high price, and you can go there and have a really terrible meal with some overpriced plonk. You can manage the unevenness a little bit by knowing what to avoid and what to prefer. The hanger steak: it's safe and quite good, rib-eye also decent. Pork chop: decent. The escargot: good. Onion soup: normal, not great or bad. The crepes: surprisingly bad for a place that advertises them as a speciality: they're leaden. Fish: mostly bad. (Mussels taste the way they should, but they'll plate both those that opened and those that didn't, which is a serious no-no.) Most of the "specialities" (various French classics): usually bad but occasionally you'll catch a decent batch of something. Wine list? Again, for a place where that's supposed to be a basic part of their schtick, surprisingly weak. Especially weak in really decent lower-end drinkable bistro-level red wines, of which there are just tons and tons out there these days. I wish this place was better than it was. But if you're careful, you can have a decent enough meal here.

Sweet and petite are two adjectives that come to mind when thinking back on meals at La Belle Epoque. The small corner restaurant is decorated in a casual French Provencal style, with exposed wine racks, warm wood and giant Toulouse Lautrec prints. It's not very original, aesthetically, but not too shabby for the suburbs. The food is the thing that keeps my Media relations coming back -- brunch is especially nice, with a range of breakfast-y egg dishes, generously filled crepes, salads, even a hearty burger. I especially liked my La Savoyarde crepe filled with raclette cheese (medium-hard Swiss cow's milk), roasted potatoes, prosciutto and reduced leek sauce. It was a bit salty -- the prosciutto, I'd wager -- but I'm into that. Service is charming and attentive; the staff even remembers that my parents drink Diet Coke and club soda and serve it to them as soon as they sit down! A lovely neighborhood restaurant that always delivers a tasty meal.

This place is more like a 2.5 for me, a rating largely driven by the quality-to-price ratio. It's not that the food was so bad; it's just that I resent having paid so much for it. We ordered the mussels in garlic tomato sauce to start with, and they were definitely tasty, although I get frustrated when some of my shellfish are bad (i.e. didn't open when cooked) and are still left on the plate. Shouldn't happen in general, and especially when we're paying so much for the dish. My mom ordered a goat cheese salad that was fine but sort of unexciting (hard to make goat cheese unexciting, but then there wasn't much cheese), and then both she and I got a mushroom-based dinner crepe. And I swear, the thing had absolutely zero flavor. I don't know quite how they managed it. My dad got another vegetarian dinner crepe, and I don't quite remember the ingredients, other than that they included tomatoes, onions, and significantly more, you know, taste, than the mushroom one. Still nothing to write home about, though; I could have whipped up something just as good in my dorm kitchen. I will say, though, that our waitress was impeccably attentive and nice, so I do feel a little twinge of guilt in concluding that we were wholly unimpressed.

I went on a date here and I have to say I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Our waiter (I'm sorry, I don't remember his name!) was very happy to discuss wine in order to help me pick a glass. It was perfect. It was quiet but not too quiet. I will say the food was... only ok. Not mind blowing, but delicious. Would recommend to a friend!

I've been here a few times and have always loved it, this time was no different. I really enjoy their wine list and wine-flight options based on color. I'm also in love with their crepes, I have yet to have a bad one. Dinner was finished off with the creme brulee which was delicious and perfectly proportioned to compliment the dinner without leaving you uncomfortably stuffed. I would recommend La Belle Epoque to anyone looking for delicious fare and a great wine list in the Media area.

I was looking for good French cooking in Delaware County, but not uptight, jackets required, overpriced French cooking. I had just about given up hope until I dined at La Belle Epoque in Media. Once again, I had to go to Media to find the best this county has to offer! The escargots was in a very simple garlic and olive oil sauce. They were well seasoned and not too chewy. My entree was a trout that was teeming with flavor, was cooked perfectly, had a crispiness on the outside and was very flaky and fork tender in the middle. It was prepared almondine style with haricot verts that had the essential snap to them as well as being very chewable (whatever that means). The server was impressed with my ability to pronounce the actual French names on the menu (I practiced them several times before ordering, I must admit), and the service itself was very prompt and friendly. Its a small cafe so I can imagine a wait if it got really busy. The restaurant is very cozy because of its size, welcoming. They offer fresh bread service at your table, the rolls are very tasty as well. For the food you are gettting, the price is very reasonable. The menu, atmosphere, and overall vibe I get from this place is very New York Balthazar, but without the price tag and the annoying New Yorkers (JK?)

My fiance and I ducked into this place this morning for breakfast/brunch since the power was out in most of Media, which prevented us from going to the Court Diner. When we walked in it looked like the sort of place that could get really snotty and pretentious really fast on a weekend night, but the menu looked OK so we bit. I had the goat cheese and mushroom omelette and ohmygod it had to be the best omelette I've ever had. It came with a small side salad of mixed greans and roasted potatoes, and I think it was a really good deal for $6.95. The omelette was bursting with goat cheese and plump mushrooms-- I didn't want it to end. Also... the coffee? I have no idea what it was, and I don't know what your favorite purveyor of coffee is, but it kicked the pants off of Wawa, Dunkin Donuts, and Starbucks combined. I may be a coffee yokel-- I don't drink it that often, but this stuff made me sit up straight. REALLY good. So, I can't speak to what this place is like after dark, but it seems to be a pretty good bet for Saturday brunch.

Thank you!

We have dined here twice and we enjoyed our meals both times. The mussels come with a delicious sauce and are definitely a must try! The bacon and brie crepe is also very good. The staff was very accommodating both times. They even gave us hot bread to soak up the sauce from the mussels.

I've been here for brunch a few times. The food is quite good. It's a great place for breakfast if you're looking for something more upscape than a diner. On the down side, seating is limited.

I can't figure out why there are bad reviews. Come here for brunch-their savory crepes are incredible. It's also a great date spot, as its ambience is more romantic than others in Media.

PEACE OUT

We have dined here twice and we enjoyed our meals both times. The mussels come with a delicious sauce and are definitely a must try! The bacon and brie crepe is also very good. The staff was very accommodating both times. They even gave us hot bread to soak up the sauce from the mussels.

Sooo good!

Thank you!

PEACE OUT
