New Yorkers -- or those residents of Gotham who see their purlieu as the center of the universe - are so often accused of viewing those vast tracts of land west of the Hudson River as that area Lewis & Clark went exploring one day merely in search of more America. It is well-known, that cartographic demarcation at High Point State Park - New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania. It is as much a physical divide as it is a cultural one. But if you're westbound on I-84, having just passed Port Jervis, crossing the Delaware River into Pennsylvania, you'll immediately find yourself within the limits of Matamoras, Pennsylvania - known to many New York State residents for its legal fireworks stores. And as I recently discovered from a good friend and local resident, illegal for Pennsylvania residents to enter. Let freedom ring. However on the right about a quarter mile further north on Route 6/209, you'll come upon a terrific bar tavern called The Grill - a place that not only captures the essence of the all-American tavern "where everybody knows your name", but after a few beers and an order of The Grill's irresistable buffalo wings -- you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone sitting nearby who would appear "unfamiliar", because from the moment you sit down and one of the gracious waitstaff take your order, you'll begin to feel at home. My friend's band was playing at The Grill one Saturday night, so I had been looking forward to walking in the front door; seeing their faces; doing my best John Wayne. I couldn't help but notice however the attention to detail that seemed to find its way into every facet of the décor of this pub you could fathom - unlike so many other local public houses: The Grill is part "Don the Beachcomber" tiki bar; part country music saloon; part local rock band venue. Along with superb acoustics and a sound system designed to balance the volume of the music with the size of the crowd while enhancing the quality of the sound -- after five or six mugs of Blue Moon, you'll have little trouble kicking back and relaxing to the rhythm of some great music. But the wings...they are undoubtably the showstopper. My estimate is The Grill's wings are breaded, double-dipped in a thicker-than-average wing sauce, then grilled. Whatever the case may be, with every finger-lickin' morsel, I'm telling you The Grill is going to take your palate places it's never been before. They seem to have developed some sort of Jedi mind control all their own; you'll find yourself proselytizing their virtue to complete strangers everywhere -- from supermarket openings to connecting flights between cities -- for many years to come. The milieu at The Grill is friendly and familiar with one another locally, and the ambience is by and large easygoing. The outdoor dining area after 10 pm becomes a standing room-only porch which, with the hanging multi-colored lanterns and tabletop umbrellas, makes it the only place you would want to be in Matamoras on a summer Saturday night. If you are in the area and jonesing for a down-home, laid back good time, be sure to pay The Grill a visit. The food, beer, crowd and low prices are all well worth your night.

the good: free wifi i tried the wings based on other yelpers' reviews. they were super heavy on saucing up the wings. i wouldve preferred the sauce on the side if i knew they were smothered and covered like waffle house. the wings were nice and big, however and i'm not complaining about the sauce (the parm peppercorn were tasty), but there was just too much. locals were in comparing their hunting scores. one dude bagged a bobcat. why, i dont know. do you eat that? or do you just shoot random stuff 'cause you're carrying a rifle? i sat at the bar and the server was nice and all. they apparently have big assed beers for MNF and a lot of tvs showing the same thing. tv. I wanted hockey. no versus. :-( i'd go elsewhere next time or order takeout and sauce on the side

This is going to be easy...you like chicken wings? This is the place. A friend recommended this place and they were right. Service was good, place is clean. Bathroom was clean. Nice outdoor patio. Now why can't there be a place like this where I live??

It's worth the stop. Their wings are very good: juicy chicken, crisp on the outside, and quality sauces. Between the 8 of us, we tried a few of their burgers, a gyro, and a salad. Everything looked good, and we were extremely happy to have found a great bite to eat in what seemed like the middle of nowhere to us.

This place deserves all the credit for going the extra mile and putting in the effort. They have a big menu filled with creative options and logos of area sports teams. The place itself is decorated like a Ground Round, walls filled with sports memorabilia. Interesting side note, the Grill sports the only clean bathroom (meaning you wont vomit upon entering it ) in ALL of Matamoras, that alone makes it worth the stop. Our drinks came fast from our very sweet and thoroughly professional waitress. Next up, the wings. And with the option of being able to mix n match flavors, you're never left wondering what a peppercorn parmesan wing tastes like. We had the medium and they were great. Next up dinner. We had the turkey burger and tacos. Dinner itself was underwhelming and not what made this place fun. It was the waitstaff and the wings and the clean head. When your done with dinner walk across the street and load up on explosives at the fireworks store, but only if your not from PA.

Went there after long day rafting. Service was good but at a slower pace but they advertise that on their menu. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked amazing. I had the cod hero and it was really good. Father in law had turkey club that he really liked. Boneless and regular wings were good. Didn't order a burger but definitely will next time, they looked awesome! Decor of place is old and not that many TV's for a "sports bar" but we will definitely go back next time we are rafting.

From the minute you walk in the door you feel right at home. We sat at the bar & was greeted by Joanie the bartender. She was very personable & friendly! We ordered specialty drinks & nachos. These are some of the best nachos I've ever eaten! Seriously they are loaded. The portion was so huge we couldn't finish it! Will def stop in again when I'm in town!

We only went for drinks, and can't comment on the food except that it looked amazing and the comments from the crowd on a Sunday night were great. Service was fast and friendly, and the local characters made for a great night. If we hadn't had a load of food back at our motel for a midnight snack we would likely have gorged on wings. No local or any sort of craft beer, but once in a while, Yeungling works just fine, especially in a huge "Guzzler" mug. Friendly bar, even for travellers to stumble upon. Good enough!

Decent place. Whoever said it has a good craft beer menu has no clue what craft beer is. It has absolutely no craft beer. Nothing wrong with it. Decent portions. Decent quality. Good atmosphere. Best part was solid service.

Great destination for dinner with family and or friends. Just off Interstate 84 exit 53 in PA, this local bar and grill is a fantastic local restaurant that offers a wide range of options including many prepared inhouse. Tabatha was our server...she has been working there for 15 years and was both attentive and extremely pleasant. Tonight included J&J Entertainment (?) offering music bingo. Hilarious and fun. Only reasons for a 4/5 were desserts not homemade (though delicious) and bathrooms were not great. I will certainly return!

While in the area..I asked an employee of a neighborhood establishment "Where can I get a bite to eat ..close by?" He said "the grill...they have really good food"...Well I must say..we were DEFINITELY not disappointed. ..the food was top notch...the waitstaff friendly and helpful. ..and the atmosphere. ..so comfortable. ..with several different seating areas...there was something for everyone. .. I only wish I lived closer so I could dine here more often...will ABSOLUTELY stop here every time I am in the area... #NEWFAVORITEPLACETOEAT

Great sports bar atmosphere. Poor draft beer selection that never changes other than the seasonal Sam Adams :( Prices recently shot up for both food and drinks which makes me not go there often anymore. Food is good though! Especially their wings and burgers. Go for the Guzzlers over the pints, it makes more financial sense.

We went here because of the recommendations on Yelp. We were greeted in a friendly fashion. There was music playing, and the place was very cold (air conditioner was on high but it was 59 degrees outside). We arrived at 1:05 PM. The server returned at 1:25 PM to take our order which was (appetizer) pulled pork potato skins, (meal) Philly cheesesteak w/onion rings and (meal) chicken fajitas. Our appetizer arrive at 2:05 PM!!!! OMG really? yes, really. The appy was okay - not fantastic but the pulled pork was better on its own. We finally got lunch served to us at 2:25 PM. The fajitas were disgusting. No flavor whatsoever and the salsa that came with it was sour (spoiled). We kept waiting for the waitress to return to ask us how everything was but we kept waiting and waiting. People were coming and going and yet we just waited and waited. At about 2:45 she returned. I told her that I wasn't paying for the fajitas per the above and to take it off my bill. At 2:55 she returned with the bill which we paid promptly - $29.42 for one appetizer and one cheesesteak sandwich. They charged $2.50 for a soda and $1.50 for onion rings in lieu of fries which she didn't say would cost more when we ordered, and $1.00 more for mushrooms. The appy was $11.00. Crazy prices. Anyway, we finally got out of there at 3:05. Per the receipt, 3:02. TWO HOURS for the worst service we've gotten in many years. So bad in fact, we never left a tip - something I've never done. But the food was gross, service sucked and prices were outrageous. They had forgotten about us so badly that if we got up and walked out without paying no one would have noticed. TOO BAD because the waitress seemed like a sweetheart..

We came across this place randomly and it was amazing. The grape leaves are great and so is the hummus, Adnan kebab and feta spring rolls. DEF recommend for healthy eating!

Pretty typical neighborhood sports bar with standard fare: burgers, sandwiches, steaks, pasta, chicken dishes, etc. I've tried most of the things on the menu, since I lived in the area for several years, and I was never disappointed by the food. It's pretty decent, but nothing to write home about, with the exception of the wings. This place has -awesome- wings, with a wide range of flavor options to suit most any palate. I do have to knock off a couple stars for the service, though. It's very hit-or-miss; sometimes they're on their game, but sometimes they're inexplicably slow and inattentive, even when the place is empty. Overall, The Grill is a safe bet, though it helps if you have somebody to talk to while you're waiting.

Let me tell you something. I NEVER give a 5 but WOW. This place lived up to the reviews. Packed house, great service great food and reasonable price. Now, I only ordered a salad, chicken fingers, and a thai entre but they were all VERY unique, home made, not processed and the special sauce for the wings.........OMG!!!! Amazing!! Will go back again and again

The Grill is the true deffinition of an American Bar and Grill. It's the kind of place Norm Peterson and Cliffy Clavin would call home if they lived in Matamoras. Whatever you are, Thirsty, Hungry, bored, in a dancing mood, or just want to watch the game, the Grill can help. Their food is wonderful. Large selection on the menu from lights snacks to full corse prime rib meals. Cold beer and tons of other spirits make the bar a great place for an adult beverage. If your into watching sports there are TV's in every corner of the place. And the sound system makes you fell like your in the action. There isn't to many nights that there isn't something going on there. Walk in the door and feel like your part of the crowd.

Great place for a baseball game and some drinks. Owner waited on us and offered a 10 percent discount since we were staying at the Hampton down the street. I'm in this part of the world 4 times a year so I will make The Grill a regular watering hole. Loved it!

Wings: They're delicious here. The rest of the food, eh. Beer: Domestic drafts are cheap: $4 for a 24 oz. Beautiful. Scene: Local. And it depends on the night. Weekend nights might be jukebox, might be DJ, might be a band. The verdict: come for a game or for wing night. If you're here on the weekend at night, it's a good spot to have a few beers and hang out with the locals.

What a great surprise! We were in the middle of the road trip from hell and were staying at the local Hampton Inn (awesome hotel, by the way). They recommended The Grill Lucky for us, it was Redneck Night (really??). Yes, we were a little nervous but hunger won out. We were seated immediately and given the menu. If you're looking for a nice glass of wine, well, let's face it, you're not going to Redneck Night anywhere. The vodka tonic was great and my husband enjoyed his beer. Dinner was awesome! My husband had an incredible pasta dish and I had the meatball sub. What an awesome meal! The food was tasty and plentiful. The service was friendly and spot-on. We would go here again and again! The kids loved dessert and had I not been so full, I would have ordered my own (two pages of dessert options!). If you're staying at the Hampton Inn, let them know and you'll get 10% off your meal. Not that it's really needed - The Grill is a great value for the obscene amount of food they serve!

It's nice that they have almost all the popular styles in their menu. Italian, Greek, American, Mexican etc. all pretty good taste, large portion, good quality food. The wings are really good, my favorite one is the Garlic-teriyaki flavor. Friendly people, and location is convenient, opens late, great place to hangout after work!

This place has more bad than good, when I first walked in, it took about 3 waiters passing by to finally get seated. The place seems to out of date in terms of decoration, there's just to much clutter on the walls and more. As for the waiters some looked like they knew how to do there jobs, while others did not. The one I had was ok, she spoke very fast and didn't even let me talk. The one plus is that the waiters all have good manors, but lack good waiter skills. The atmosphere in the place seem friendly and kinda not open for new customers, so bit hostile for new comers. The food here was straight up pre-made, nothing seemed really, everything just seemed fake. As for a proportions on the plate, for a big eat it's great, but for the normal person, it seem like too much. Overall just ok, everything needs to be reexamined, and I wonder if the place would pass a health inspection.

My experience was split... The wings are awesome! The cajun rub and the spicy BBQ were delicious. My friend ordered a NY Strip steak that was very underwhelming. The beer is well priced and the 24oz option was appreciated as I didn't need to order a second beer. Service was acceptable but nothing stellar. I would come again for the wings and beer ... That's it

the best wings I've ever had. We originally discovered this place by accident while kayaking up in Port Jervis, and now we drive up from NYC just for the wings. They're *that* good.

My family and I decided to stop in one night for a quick meal. My first impression was positive - a one (wo)man band singing and popcorn was delivered to the table; which won my 4 year old boy over. We tried the wings, which was suggested by another family member who stopped in once before. They were delish. Nice and crispy and the choices of sauce require their own menu. Our service was over the top. Ask for Tammy. She continued to check on our table, especially with our two little ones (4 and 2). Thursday nights are Prime Rib night. YUMMY! That was our 2nd time there. We will be back and we will ask for Tammy ;)

My husband and I stopped here after dropping off our kids at camp up the river with the intention of watching the world cup final. We were relieved to be able to watch the game...we had worried that only baseball would be shown on the local TVs. We shared a very hearty plate of nachos and enjoyed a couple of beers (my husband liked the 24 oz. option). The waitstaff, especially the bartender, were friendly and helpful. The prices were affordable, and the location was easy to access on our roadtrip home. I will keep this spot in mind for future trips through the area.
