Chicken wing sandwich! Awesome. Huge portions.

Food is great, pierogis and kielbasa, yum! Atmosphere is good and service has always been good when I've been there

Not impressed. Mediocre pub food at quality restaurant price. Chicken fajitas were overcooked and cold (prepared ahead of time!) other entrees were heavy and greasy. You'd think given the name they would be beer conscious, but the micro draft I ordered came in a 12oz mug at full pint cost. They even charged me .50 for a tiny cup of hot sauce, which I ordered to give the food some taste.

Went here with family last night for first time. We got there in time. We walk in and were seated right away. But as we sat there the place filled up quick. It's a pub setting so expect it to be a little loud. The decor is pleasant. The food was good. Service could have been a little better but we were taken care of. Our server didn't seem too interested in his job. Would I go back, sure I would.

Reasonable prices, delicious food, excellent beer selection! Anything slathered in their spinach and artichoke dip (flatbreads, quesadilla sandwiches, etc.) is out of this world! Staff is always friendly and it's rare that our food doesn't come out promptly.

First time at hops and barley. Friendly service. Nice beer selection. I had the eggplant parm sandwich. Very good. Husband had the Mahi Mahi sandwich. He really enjoyed it. Typical bar atmosphere. A bit loud with tv on. But we had a good experience.we sat at the bar. Didn't see the dinning room.

This is a great place to go to when you know you're really hungry, but you can't decide what to eat. The menu is big and there is a little bit of everything on it: burgers, wraps, flatbreads, salads, pasta, entrees... there's plenty to choose from. They also always have yummy soup. Their portions are massive too. Last time I got a small cheesesteak and it was anything but small. Their beer selection is pretty good too. I always tell people to go here, since there's something for everyone and I have never had a bad meal.

Great variety of food and good selection of beer. Ordered a Thai chicken pocket (special that day) and was very happy with the flavor. I had half expected it to be shredded chicken tossed with a sweet Thai chili sauce but was very happy when it was the chef's own concoction. Great fries too, crispy and hot. The service was just the way I like it, all business. The server knew the menu and was attentive to drink refills throughout the meal. She didn't try to make us laugh of pretend she was our friend, exactly the way service should be. Ambiance is strange. It is like a dark divey bar upon entering, and the restaurant area is like your grandparent's attic, a mish-mash of seemingly random, antique items. Could definitely use an upgrade to the decor.

I've been here twice so far and both times my entrees were not all that great. However, I will be back for the wings! I had medium with hot on the side and both sauces were super tasty. The wings were PERFECTLY done, too - nice and crispy. The entrees I've had before were a pasta dish and the french dip. I wouldn't recommend either. The french dip was very salty (and that is saying something because I LOVE salt) and very dry. I love that they gave you a choice of carrots and celery as a side, though. YUM. I'll be back to try another entree, and to get more of those great wings!

I often go to hops to grab a quick bite before going to a hockey game. It's cheap, but decent food. I always get the same thing, the open face sandwich with gravy fries, although I do alternate between the roast beef and turkey. I sometimes get their soups, and they're usually very good. The dining room furniture is a little shabby.. some of the chairs & booths have tears, and sometimes I get a table that's a little wobbly. The tables are covered with cheap plastic table cloths. Avoid the bathroom at all costs. I like the old photographs on the walls though. It's ok for what is it though, and the prices are cheap.

As good as it gets when it comes to bar food! I've never had a bad experience eating here. Always a great specials menu too!

Been going there since it opened many years ago....sigh.......lol. Best place in the valley for drinks and laughs. Food is great and reasonably priced so the whole family can enjoy as well in the separate dining room. If it's beer you fancy then never fear the cooler is full of just your type if it isn't on tap. Mark and James rock the weekend so stop bye and have a few too many. Enjoy!

This is my favorite local restaurant. The food is always plentiful. Ample menu fitting all tastes. Not a lot of "diet" options though. The lighting is a bit subdued, and you do need to walk through the bar to get to dining rooms. Kids are welcome! Enjoy the local crowds.

Hops & Barleys really is an A-OK spot. Not great, not the best you're ever going to see, but you can get some decent bar fare here. I'm not really a local, but I attended a local college and I can tell you that Hops was one of our favorite (and regular) watering holes...we liked it enough to drive past dozens of bars much closer to home. They have a decent selection of beer, pleasant service, and a pretty good atmosphere. Their serving sizes are generous...like when the cheese steak hits the table you think to yourself "oh my god, what did I get myself into..." The food isn't always perfect, karaoke night is a nightmare (but karaoke always is...), but every now and again I do get the itch and have to cruise by Hops and fill up again.

Best place to eat and drink. Food is reasonably priced with great portions and well made. It's able to work as both a bar and a restaurant. The menu is large and I have enjoyed just about everything on it. I wouldn't recommend it as a four star fine dining experience. But if you're looking for a great place with friends to grab food and drinks when you're on a budget (like so many people around here are); it's the best.

I've been going here sporadically for years and it's always been a reliable spot - but nothing I should write home about (...wait, home is like a 5 minute drive away from this place.) A huge menu, mostly bar foods - and again, always reliable for decent food, but nothing spectacular. $6 for a shot of Patron, which is cheap as hell compared to what I pay for one in NY ($12-$16) - so that's always a +1. But they didn't have Absolute Vanilla for my drink. Womp. They've banned smoking in here, also another +1 - nothing worse than a bunch of rowdy people guzzling $2 Bud Light drafts billowing in a cloud of smoke at the bar. They have a back seating area, which is the last +1, if you care to get away from the insanely loud bar crowd and go enjoy some drinks, food and conversation. The only word I can keep thinking of about this place is 'reliable'. So that's it. Reliable.

Great food/beer selection, extremely reasonable and competetive prices, and a laid back atmosphere with plenty of parking across the street at the bank. I highly recommend trying it if you haven't been yet.

3/24/2014 Absolute worst service! Our waitress acted like we were bothering her when we asked for a refill and napkins. We had to ask for our waitress 3 times because she never came to check on us! The other waitresses around us weren't that pleasant either...its unfortunate, because the food was great...but the service was so bad I doubt we'll go back. If you do go..the French Onion soup is the BEST

Great food, great service, great portions for great prices, and a nice beer selection. Best fries I've ever had. Best French onion soup to be had anywhere. The pretzel sandwich is a highlight, and I love their basket of fried veggies, mini pirogies and potato pancakes, and quesadillas. The buffalo chicken cheese fries are also a hit. They could use some cheese sauce for a dipping option for fries and pretzel sticks. The bartenders are the best in the valley. Also, the kitchen is open till 1am daily.

Went here with my dad for lunch for our annual father/daughter day. Food was solid; I had the Philly Cheesesteak and my dad had the Black and Blue burger. My sandwich was decent. I liked the fried onions especially. My dad loved the burger, which was clearly hand made, not pressed and frozen. The fries were the real stars of the plates. Thin, crispy, and perfectly golden, they required absolutely nothing to be enjoyed. This place would be a 4, but for the computer system crashing when we tried to pay the bill. TOTALLY NOT the waitstaff's fault, but management should really handle customers when stuff like that happens. I was sent to two different ATMs to get cash. (The in-house one was inoperable because their network was down). This made us late to our destination and we missed the last tour of the day. I'd give it another shot.

Great food, great prices, great service - what's not to love?! When I still lived in the area, my friends and I would regularly stop in for a bit to eat before a night out. The decor in the dining room is dark with its wood wainscot and barely lit sconces, but it just adds to the ambiance. Everyone that works there is nothing but super friendly. They're very attentive and helpful if you have a tough time deciding on what to order from their lengthy menu. My highly recommended picks are the wing style boboli, basket of fries - with cheese and gravy of course, basket of veggies and the mini pierogis. You probably don't want to order these all at once, unless you have a party of 10 to down it or you're Takeru Kobayahi. But the food is so awesome and the prices so cheap, so what the heck - go for it! And wash it down with a Yuengling for the real deal.

I grew up in Northeast Pa, then a couple years in State College at Penn State, Philadelphia for maybe 5 years, and now NYC... trust me I have frequented plenty of watering holes in my day and I am pretty sure Hops would be just about the best and most consistently fun bar I have been to. Unfortunately I only get to visit when I am in town visiting family for a holiday nowadays but I always try and stop by whenever I can. Hops reminds me of Cheers because everybody knows your name and there is a cast of about 10 characters / regulars that for the course of my past 10 years of sporadic visits, about half of them are generally there at any given time, they all remember you and its just good times. The bartenders Mark and James are pretty much the best you will find anywhere, and that is the biggest difference maker here. I go in there maybe once a YEAR and they somehow remember who I am and what I drink, the bar gets slammed and many times they have literally grabbed my glass out of my hand as I take the last sip to fill it back up before it even hits the bar, you rarely have to wait for a drink, they are funny guys and always make sure you have a good time. The prices are really good... It the kind of place where Piano Man or Glory Days will come on the jukebox and literally everyone will be singing along till 2:30 in the morning. One of my friends loved this place so much he went here literally every single night for something ridiculous like 150 days in a row or something! I haven't eaten here that many times but everything I have had has generally been pretty good, the waitresses are all pros and have worked there for a long time so your service is generally spot on. Hops is definitely not the flashiest or the biggest and brightest bar in the world but to me its exactly what a good bar should be, a guaranteed good time!

I love Hops! Really good comfort food at very reasonable prices. The atmosphere is great, but they have a lot of really creepy super old photos on the wall. You know the photos I'm talking about... The kind where the shutter needed to be open so long that you weren't allowed to smile. Lol. Other than that, definitely come here and eat your face off. You won't regret it.

Not much I need to say about Hops. Best bartenders and wait staff anywhere I have ever been. Great prices. And hands down some of the best food you will ever have, anywhere. Pure gold. I have never had anything there that wasn't amazing. Definitely the place I miss most back home.

Hops and Barleys is a consistent spot for average to above average bar food. The food is reasonably priced and served in very large portions. The chicken wing sandwich is always tasty and the fries are delicious. I have gone to hops just to eat the fries, loaded with salt, malt vinegar, and ketchup. In addition, there's usually a good selection of beer on tap at reasonable prices.

I live far away now, but this is the best of Northeastern Pennsylvania cuisine! The pretzel sandwich is one of the best dishes to eat! Also the battered veggies are a great appetizer or bar snack and super cheap. Kitchen's open late. Cash and carry available, if you want beer to go. The bartenders are all fun, friendly and flirtacious men with big muscles and smiles. (My favorite bartender is seriously named James Bond; he's shown me his driver's license.) This place is great for Saturday night dinner or drinks. It's one of my favorite places on earth, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for fun, complete with cheap drinks and food.

I love this place! Unfortunately, I live quite far from it. Fortunately, my friend DOES live in the area, and whenever I visit this is a place I definitely want to go there for a fun, scrumptious meal. The best part is it's become a mini tradition and, as any good tradition dictates, I always get the same thing. Baked onion soup to start (LOTS of gooey cheeze. LOVE that.) and the ole' burger/fries combo for the main event. After, . . . FULL. The atmosphere is great. . .tavern-y and coz-y. Makes for a great night out with good friends, and a five star review for good times, gooey cheeze and a burger sitting on a basket heaped with fries.

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and service and size of dining room. Check out the Mac and cheese bites, very interesting. My burger was well prepared and wife's quesadilla was tasty too. Quaint ambiance, would return.

I went here for the first time last night, because the boyfriend wanted to go! We were seated quickly. Our server was nice, attentive, and on top of it. Good beer menu. I loved my fried tortellini, and had the crispy chicken fingers. They were good with mild wing sauce on the side. Boyfriend enjoyed his steak, and the side of fries was large enough for two. No complaints - I'd go back. It was reasonably priced, and I enjoyed it.
