Have not been here for quite some time, not sure if it's still open? Dined here at window table; the view, the atmosphere is lovely. The food was truly delicious and we felt that the waiter really got the menu and was able to tap into what we were looking for... he made suggestions that helped us to choose appetizers and entrees. I would recommend this place highly for food and for ambience. Nice for an intimate dinner for two; or with good friends.

Don't get me wrong this is a beautiful hotel and I felt very lucky to have stayed here. We had a breath taking view of the Delaware River and a cozy romantic room. However the service almost ruined it for us. We had dinner in the hotel and the food was decent but I've had more fantastic meals at that hefty price. The quality of food wasn't the issue it was our server. I have never gotten worse service in my life! She was incredibly rude to us on so many levels I don't even know where to begin. Example a: she served us soup and no spoons and when I asked her for a spoon she rolled her eyes a little and didn't come back for 10 mins! We had to ask the hostess to get us spoons. That was only the beginning of the whole mess. I left dinner feeling upset and offended. The next day we were lucky enough to get her again for breakfast!!!!! Our breakfast came out late and cold and she didn't bring syrup with the pancakes. We asked for the syrup and we heard her run into the kitchen, throw a plate down and scream "I will never do this again!!!!" She burnt my bagel. We asked for more coffee and that never arrived. I was shocked...I have never been treated like that by anyone. I'm wondering if it was because we are a young couple and she thought we be cheap tippers...I still can't figure it out. I told the manager at check out about our experience and she wasn't very apologetic. Over all the ambiance and history make it worth it to give this place a try but the service was so bad that it almost ruined our whole experience!

We took our parents to dinner for a special anniversary/birthday dinner. The evening started with excellence (because we put a comment on the OpenTable reservation stating that we had both two birthdays and one anniversary): They greeted us and said "so we hear it's a birthday and anniversary tonight!". Our parents were thrilled from the first moment. They followed that up with a card from the owner, with a small box of chocolates (and all the desserts had candles). For appetizer, we shared the crawfish and the horseradish stuffed shrimp - both excellent. for meals, we had the lamb, duck, osso bucco & fillet. The lamb and fillet were absolutely top notch. The osso bucco was wonderful as was the duck. The service was very good and the atmosphere outstanding for a special meal. We could not have been happier with our experience last night.

Not sure why this place is getting 4 stars based on our observations. I went there as part of a wedding party, so they had a captive audience. There were approx 50-60 people having a dinner. The magnanimous management gave us ONE waitress for all those people. Think about this - a wedding and one waitress. You have that many Irishmen at a wedding waiting for drinks and ONE SINGLE WAITRESS? Are you crazy??? Waiting easily 30 - 45 minutes for drinks. That really was pushing it. Another thing they did that really pissed me off was what they neglected to do, and here it is: when the dinners started coming out, the one single lone hard-working waitress was struggling to keep up, she got ZERO help so that we would have a warm meal. The manager and his lackies just wandered around seating customers outside while our server struggled. The result? Cold food served to all at my table. , OK here comes the real kick in the ass: when the time for our room reservation ended, all available help was in there to shoo us out and change the room over. When it was time to go, they were all there. Where the hell were they when they were serving cold meals? Dine at your own risk, because it is super-expensive and for that price, it should have been perfect. Maybe if you go as a couple the service is better, but I am not willing to take the chance to find out. Probably have a better time at Dilly's down the road. Fred Beans, the new owner, yes, THAT Fred Beans, had better clean up his act, or it will soon be under new management.

I dined here with friends this past January with friends for my birthday. The location is very quaint, exactly what one expects off of River Road in New Hope. It was a quiet night, with only 2 other tables occupied, so we had good, attentive service. I had lobster bisque and a caesar salad, we shared some appetizers, which I enjoyed, even if I don't recall exactly what they were at this time. My entree was the coffee lacquered duck which was very tasty. Duck can be hard to get right and I think they did an excellent job. It can be pricey, but this isn't a place you go to regularly. I would go here again.

Sunday Champagne Brunch - one word - AWFUL!!! We had family visiting from out of state - thought at this time of year it would be a lovely spot on the delaware river. The scenery was nice and the waitress very sweet and attentive, however.... To begin with the $32.50 pp brunch consisted of your choice of an appetizer (Course #1); an entree (Course #2) and dessert (Course #3). I chose the pate as my first course. It was a smooth pate and the presentation was completely unappetizing, everyone at the table (8 of us) were horrified at the resemblence of the pate to that of our family pet's you know what! My husband and daughter's 1st course were bagels and lox. A cold mini bagel and mediocre loxs. My main course was Eggs Benedict - the eggs were overcooked and the bernaise tasteless. My one daughter is a vegetarian. There were no vegetarian options for her on the menu. The waitress tried to present her with something.... a salad size plate with rice and green beans...and for this we were charged the full price. The absolute most disappointing part was the "dessert buffet." Here we are in the lovely season of autumn, you would expect homemade, seasonal delights such as apple pie, pumpkin pie, maybe pumpkin cheesecake, but NO. The desserts were inexpensive, over processed mini cupcakes, mini brownies and a couple of unappetizing white cakes. Overall it was extremely disappointing and embarassing and a complete waste of money. It's really too bad because we had been there a couple of years before and had a great brunch of assorted cheeses, breads, omelet and waffle stations and really enjoyed ourselves. We won't be going back!

Pretty good food. I had the Black Bean soup for an appetiser and it was EXTREMELY good. For lunch I had the Jamaican Jerk Chicken which was so-so. The meat was dry and it lacked in seasoning but it was still good. The service was excellent and they had good biscuits. 4/5

Dined there this past weekend. Early seating. Sort of behind the cashier station, but could see enuf of the river to feel like we had some sort of view. Still, thought it was a second class table until it got busy and then I felt like it still had a view but also some privacy. Especially as the noise level went up. To avoid repeating all the descriptions I will summarize by saying the experience was good. We liked the waiter. Good job. Efficient not over bearing. Had opinions on the menu. Really liked the cuisine. For me soup was delicious. Some sort of corn chowder as I recall. Then the scallop rolls. Silly me I thought they would be scallop infused spring roll; instead merely scallops wrapped in bacon. Tasty, but boring. Entree excellent. Sea bass in a nice sauce with crab meat and crawfish meat. I liked the mixture of flavors. We thought the lamb shank a bit over done, but took it home and enjoyed some the day after. Cheese cake was good. Coffee had good flavor. To me, what really stood out? The temperatures of the food when served. Evidence of a skilled kitchen and prompt service. Not a cheap meal, but a fair price. Generous tip for an enjoyable dinner. Cutlery and stemware clean and shiny. Of course, pictures on the foot bridge afterward nicely back lit by a setting sun. Watched an experienced float plane pilot swoop in for a touch and go on the river. Nice piece of flying. Certainly will return after not having been here for twenty years.

very romantic! great scenes overlooking the water and a great little town. We will be back for brunch that is suppose to be great. They have 8 rooms for a nice weekend get away!

Atmosphere is beautiful by the river. I would recommend asking to sit outside. The featured fish was the entree we had. It was very good. The server we had was a little dry in personality but our reservation was later in the evening so the staff may have just been tired. Overall, good food, good cocktails, and really nice dining.

We have been here for brunch and really like the staff. They accommodated us to window seating and very attentive. The menu provides alot of choices but the reason it's so great is because of the fantastic views looking the Delaware River. A most on a Saturday or Sunday.

Pleasant Sunday brunch in an attractive atmosphere overlooking the river. Service was attentive and friendly. Main course selection was varied. My strip steak and my companion's crab cake with accompanying vegetables including fresh asparagus was quite excellent. " Champagne " refills were generous. The desert selection, which is self service from a wide hot and cold selection was slightly disappointing, being overly sweet for my taste. At an inclusive $35 per head, brunch seemed a little pricey but is made up for by the river views and the ability to linger at the table without feeling any encouragement to leave. On a sunny day, a drive along the Delaware with brunch here is a soothing experience !

Mom, Dad, meet Black Bass.... That's how this relationship is. I am so comfortable with this place that I brought my parents to celebrate a recent birthday. Outside on the patio - beautiful evening, pleasant server, what else could you want? Gazing out on the river - there is no other experience you could ask for in mid-week dining. I love places that deliver and this place does just that. Delivering is not just important - it is everything. Let just say I was very happy and the food was excellent. The patio offers a pub menu that is perfect pricing for that mid-week excursion. Love it.

First and foremost the overall atmosphere at the restaurant was very good the view even with the rain was amazing and I can't thank the host enough for seating us at a large window even though we were walk ins. . Our waitress seemed overwhelmed but was as attentive as she could be and we were treated very well. The food was very good, salads were good, my wife's entree (crab specialty) was excellent as was my pork tenderloin. Even though the food was excellent this restaurant should be cost rated at $$$$. Salad, Entree one glass of wine and a glass of ice tea came to over $100 with tip. the drink prices and food prices should be adjusted as this would be a reason we would not come back just for a spontaneous dinner.

Stayed at the Black Bass in the Raven Rock suite. Amazing room with a fabulous view. My husband and I had dinner at the restaurant tonight. I has the soft shell crab special which was fabulous, and the hubby had the red snapper which was equally as good. Our server Mary was extremely attentive and very entertaining too! Overall, a great experience. We'll be back again!!

After having eaten here a half dozen times under the new ownership, most recently two months ago, our advice is to go for the charming Bucks County ambiance - it's a wonderful place for a special evening - but do not expect much from the food, which has and continues to be very disappointing, and expensive too boot.

brunch is the best meal ever created. period. black bass offers a pre-fix ($32/person) brunch. needless to say, i was quite enthusiastic. i went here today with a girlfriend of mine for my favorite meal. it's a 3-course champagne INCLUDED affair - obviously that sweetened the deal. for first course, i had their house yogurt with berries and granola. very good. with it came a roll with whipped butter. also good. i went with the crabcake instead of my normal eggs benedict. honestly, the beurre blanc sauce was the selling point, because in the grand scheme of things, beurre blanc and hollandaise are in the same category - buttery, delicious, and coronary-inducing. the crab cake was excellent, as was the service. (ask for shirley!) the only weird thing is the way their dining room is arranged. i went to brunch with one person. so they sat us, obviously, at a two-top table. immediately adjacent to our table was a 4-top, closer to the window. honestly, i felt like we were all eating together, the tables were so close. it was almost uncomfortable, especially since the rest of the dining room wasn't full. other than the flat-out stupid seating arrangements, the meal was fantastic. highly recommended. i can't wait to go try their lunch or dinner menu - i hear fantastic things about the tavern. side note - NOT a children's place. during brunch, there was a FIRST BIRTHDAY BRUNCH. seriously?! do you honestly think your ONE YEAR OLD will appreciate crepes and eggs benedict and a champagne toast? i'm sorry, but you're idiots. go to chuck-e-cheese or giggleberry fair and do the rest of us the favor of not having to hear children screaming while we try to enjoy a nice fancy brunch. thank you.

My two Aunts, my Sister, my Husband and I had a really nice lunch here today on the last day of our trip to PA for Thanksgiving. We had a very helpfully and attentive waiter. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the building, the menu and the wine list. He highly recommended the Riesling by the glass and it was very good. The dining room has a beautiful view of the river. We understood that the Hotel and restaurant just reopened after significant renovations because of flooding on the Delaware River. The highlights of the meal were the Creole Onion Soup, the Crab cakes, the Charleston Meeting Street Crab dish. We would definitely like to go back here for a romantic dinner.

Food was quite good, but service was awful. Made specific reservation two weeks ahead. Upon arrival told table was unavailable even though they did have our reservation. Hostess was arrogant, and manager polite but totally unhelpful. One sign of a restaurant in trouble is the attitude of the waitstaff -- none of them were smiling to anyone the night we dined. What a let down, given the lovely location. With so many good, romantic restaurants in the New Hope area, we won't be going back. I have friends in the restaurant biz locally. They warned me, because they heard the same thing. I should have listened. If you go, good luck.

Arrived at 4pm. The wait for the dinner menu at 4:30pm was worth it. Our Server: Seth - was by far the best server we have ever had in any restaurant experience. He was the best! The Filet Minon was excellent. The signature crab dish was a bit rich - but very very good if you like lump crab. Lots of flavor and good sides to go with it. I have to recommend the filet mignon though - that was just outstanding. Decor is fantastic, and the views of the Delaware just great. Wine choices very good and the Cab we ordered very good. The Black and Tan at the bar could have been better - but not bad. Overall a very nice experience and we will be back soon.

We had the opportunity to eat brunch at the black bass on Sunday July 25, 2010 an were very disappointed with the food quality. We noticed that the prices increased and would gladly pay the price if the food was good....such a lovely spot, but food quality has taken a nose dive the last year. We eat out quite often hopefully the owner will not blow it!

My sister and her boyfriend just bought a new house and to celebrate a group of 8 of us came here to celebrate. BIG MISTAKE!!! the views were amazing other then that I was thoroughly dissapointed. Food was ok but way over priced for the quality. My fiancé is a high end chef in the city and couldn't believe they charged that much money for such poor quality! Not one person out of the 8 was impressed! The bread was stale and tasteless, our waitress reminded me of a diner waitress and was pushy!! Brought out menus before are all party was even there yet didn't take our drink order in the mean time... I was disappointed is an understatement! we had a almost $500 dinner and I left embarrassed I picked the place and that my friends had spent so much money on lackluster food. Everyone wa in agreeance never again!!!

WOW First time ever here last night. Two martinis at the bar were expertly prepared and the bar ambiance was just perfect for enjoying time with my wife. Then off to dinner. Apps were phenomenal, you must try the lobster and crab cocktail. We both enjoyed our fish entrees - expertly prepared and presented. Service was flawless - obviously our server was a professional. She appeared, checked on everything and disappeared on cue. What a fantastic experience. If you are looking for an excellent experience without going into the city try this place. One last shout out to the host - very professional and provided the exact accommodations that were requested. An experience that was memorable and delicious. Bartender, Host, Server, Water server - all perfect.

I was looking for a nice place for brunch to celebrate our first anniversary before we headed out on the Bucks County Wine Trail. This place couldn't have been better. Our server was fantastic and the champagne was an excellent touch. The views overlooking the Delaware and the Bulls Island foot bridge added a nice romantic touch to our delicious meal.

We attended a birthday party here for about 35 people, we had the downstairs dinning area. The appetizers were fantastic, the dinner was very good. I asked for a tour of the rooms, which have all been redone, they have 8 rooms and they all looked fantastic. This is a must stop if your in the area. The story goes that George Washington tried to stay here, but since it was loyal to the British he was not allowed, but you can.

First of all, if you truly want to go back in time and enjoy some true R&R, book a night at the hotel. It's rustic, charming, comfortable; the River Suite is spectacular! I feel as I was transported back to Revolutionary times. As for the restaurant....it was good overall, with a few mistakes. We went on a Monday night, so it was pretty much empty. The server was overly solicitous. We started with Moroccan savory baklava (ground lamb, feta, pistachios). It was very well done but needed a greater ratio of filling to pastry. The salt-and-pepper squid was a bit TOO salty and not really crispy (as advertised); however, the jalapeno dipping sauce was quite tasty. We also sampled the wild mushroom ravioli as sort of a mid-meal course; it was fabulous. Light, homemade pasta, sweet and earthy blend of mushrooms, and a smooth and smoky garlic cream sauce. From there, we moved on to the entrees. A house special crab au gratin was pretty good; hot and flavorful. The accompanying veggies were perfectly cooked. The seared scallops, however, were definitely off. They were not spoiled, but they were both rubbery and undercooked, with a very odd texture. I feel as if they could have been used as bouncing balls. The waitress took the dish away and came back to say they were going to "check the rest of the seafood in storage to make sure it was okay." I decided instead to try a crab cake; it was pretty flavorless and the mix of sauces on the plate just didn't pair well with the crab. For dessert, a pineapple jalapeno sorbet was excellent; the right level of sweetness with a nice kick for an aftertaste. Were I the waitress or hostess, I would have made the sorbet complimentary in light of the scallop situation, but I guess I think differently. The breakfast is decent. The coffee is outstanding and the omelets are fresh, if a tad overcooked. Overall, I would highly recommend the accommodations and recommend the restaurant with caveats. I would like to try the Sunday brunch.

A nice enough restaurant with a great view of the Delaware River. The food is good but does not justify the high price in my opinion. Drink prices can only be described as outrageous. Our two visits were fine but I felt ripped off by the prices.

Went to the Black Bass for the first time since the "pre-floods" era. Our next trip will not be as long! The food was as good as it gets, and the service was top notch. I even found the prices to be reasonable, certainly comparable to many other restaurants in the area. The newly renovated rooms are excellent - well laid out and not too crowded. We enjoyed a drink in the tavern prior to dinner, and that was an enjoyable experience as well. Our dinner consisted of two appetizers - a creol-inspired crawfish bowl - an extremely healthy portion and one that anyone from Louisiana would be proud. I had a nice broccoli/cauliflower/blue cheese soup, which was very good. For dinner, we shared a reasonably priced, and extremely healthy portion of Chateaubriand. This had an excellent grilled crust and was served in a red wine sauce, with a Bearnaise on the side. The wine menu was extensive, with reasonable prices at all ends of the spectrum. Can't wait to get back to here on a cold winter night and enjoy a lighter dinner in the rathskeller by the fireplace. All-in-all, the renovation was tastefully done, and equally excellent attention was placed on the overall experience - the service, the food, and the atmosphere. Well done!

I think one of the most important qualities in a restaurant, not far behind great food and excellent service, is consistency. Until a week ago, the last time I had visited the Black Bass was over 5 years ago. I can tell you with utmost confidence that the quality of the food and service was just as good! It's no surprise that this establishment maintains such a high regard among fine dining enthusiasts. They offer a great selection of wines, which is always a plus when eating great food. The appetizers were fantastic, I had the crab cake. Entrees were presented with meticulous detail and looked so great, you had to take a moment before diving in. We were also here for a special event, an anniversary celebration. To our surprise and without our asking, we were given the nice private dining room to the far left when you enter the dining room for our party of six. Spectacular views of the Delaware River and Lumberville foot bridge also add to the atmosphere of this historical feel restaurant. Service was friendly and knowledgable. I highly recommend if you are looking for a really nice evening out with a special someone or for a special occasion with friends or family. I have no doubt they can accommodate and exceed expectations.

The main thing that the restaurant at the Black Bass Hotel has going for it is the view - if you have a table at the window, or out on the terrace, the view of the river is quite nice. We also thought the service was good. The food, however, all seven of us agreed was pretty bland. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't that great, especially considering the inflated prices they charge for the entrees. Desserts, too, were fine, but nothing spectacular. The evening ended, however, on a down note. We were there celebrating a special occasion, and perhaps took our time. As we were gathering up our belongings to leave and waiting for half the party to return from the restrooms, the hostess came over and asked if we could transfer to the bar - apparently we overstayed our welcome. We clearly were preparing to leave, and had she waited less than five more minutes, we would have been gone. But to shoo us away in that manner, particularly in light of the fact that we had just spent a considerable sum on cocktails, appetizers, entrees, wine, and dessert, was just bad form.

Go to the Black Bass for the history, ambience, and romance with your honey. The Hotel is so beautiful to wander around in, and if you make a reservation and get a riverside table, it is just lovely. The pewter bar imported from Paris is something to see! The salad and soup course was nice, and I got a glass of Italian Pinto Grigio which was very heavy, but pretty good. I'm not a wine expert! I got the "Ginger-Encrusted Salmon." So I expected a piece of salmon, crusted all over, gently browned, looking pretty, on a bed of nice firm polenta. The cook had an accident. The crust must have come off the fish at some point. So instead of cooking another one, the cook took some raw, chopped ginger and threw it on the top of salmon. Part of the one edge was actually crusted, and rest of it was bare. The salmon tasted fine and I like chopped ginger so I ate it. But, like, do they really think we are so stupid we don't even notice?? The polenta was runny and the whole dish skewed to the side, It was a mess. But it was our anniversary and I was enjoying being with my husband and having some alone time together!! My husband had scallops and they were huge!!! The dessert we got was cheesecake. Horrible!!!!

Don't waste your time! We were there for lunch today. I ordered a medium rare burger ( "on the rare side") and my husband ordered a crab cake. 15 minutes later, a brisket sandwich and crab cocktail were brought to our table. Um, nope, not ours! 10 minutes later, a WELL-DONE burger appeared with the crab cake. I cut into it, and sent it back. 10 minutes later, a new burger appeared- also well done. I told the waitress to just bring the check. She removed the uneaten burger from the bill, but at no time did a manager appear to apologize and try to make it right. The poor waitress even mentioned that she told the manager. So now I'm at Caleb's, 10 minutes away, having a MEDIUM RARE burger. Won't make that mistake again.

Lovely place to stop and grab a drink in the afternoon after walking along the canal/river. There are high tops on the balcony where you can enjoy a drink with a great view of the river. If you want to eat here then make a reservation on the weekend as they get extremely busy. We've eaten here in the past and while it is good it's not great. Hostesses are very curt, not quite rude but definitely not friendly, server was very friendly and attentive. Martinis were well made and I had a draught bass ale .

Sunday brunch was a 2 hour plus affair - I would compare it to an Iron man competition - have you got what it takes to wait indefinitely (we broke down twice and asked our waiter when the first and second courses would arrive - all at once as it were.... so the point of a four course meal is what?) . And what was set before the famished us? A heavily sauced - where's the taste of the actual course - sugary, concrete concoction that left us for the rest of the day and night simply trying to cleanse our bodies and pallet of the entire experience

Situated along the Delaware River in bucolic Bucks County Pennsylvania the Black Bass is in the ultimate setting. Five of us visiting here for a Sunday Brunch were promptly seated on the deck with a spectacular view of the river. Our server promptly arrived to greet us and explain the four course prixe fixe menu that included unlimited champagne. Throughout our visit we found her to be professional, friendly, and efficient. We were so busy chatting among ourselves that we were not bothered that the service was a bit slow. We were thoroughly pleased by the variety of menu offerings. The crab cake was perfect, with an abundance of lump crab properly seasoned and accompanied with freshly prepared vegetables. The shrimp with grits was a delicious combination of grilled shrimp in a tomato sauce over creamy grits. The petite filet did not appear to be as described on the menu, rather it likely was a lesser cut of beef. Our consensus was that our experience here was most positive and of excellent value. We would not hesitate to recommend the Black Bass for anyone seeking a delightful dining event.

I was surprised to see the recent bad reviews for this restaurant. I have been more than 5 times in the last few years. Most recently I went for restaurant week, about 5 weeks ago. If you have never been and are curious, wait for the next one or go Mon, Tues,or Wed for their locals night(look up the menu online first to see if the options are to your liking). This current one was the best I have been to so far. 4 courses for $30 And each option is from their regular menu so you will get a good idea about what they do. I always bring older relatives here, and they love it. My best experiences here were at 2 wine dinners in 2013, some of the wines served were in the $100 range. I've never ordered from the tavern menu, but be aware that one of the recent negative reviews was referencing that menu. Perhaps there are different cooks. The building itself is a very old Inn that has been beautifully restored, situated right on the river. You can eat outside in warmer weather, and even up until some cooler weather with heaters and fire pits(they even provide blankets when it gets really chilly) If possible plan your trip so you can walk over the pedestrian bridge over to Bull's island park, before or after dining. The food is simply prepared in an American style, and relies on fresh and local ingredients. This is a place that better suits unadventurous eaters, but sometimes that is fine with me. I have always found the service to be very good.Try to arrive early for a table at the windows to best enjoy this restaurant, these are first come first seated.

We held our first annual board of directors Christmas Dinner at the Black Bass Hotel. It was wonderful! From cocktails and appetizers in the Lantern Room to dinner and dessert in the cozy private dining room overlooking the Delaware river. Everything was perfect. Our assigned waitress, Vicky, was attentive and professional. Kate, who booked the room for us, was so helpful and accommodating. Thank you, BBH!! Merry Christmas!

You come to the Black Bass for the whole experience. The food is delicious, nothing crazy, but enjoyable. The four stars comes from how absolutely adorable, charming, quaint, and cozy this hotel/restaurant are at any time. I happened to come in most recently on a quiet night, and it started snowing. With the beautiful river view at night with a great meal, great wine and a Christmas-vibe already in November, I left very pleased. The staff was also friendly and welcoming. I had a salmon that was on special with some mushroom soup to start. Both were nice size portions for the price range being a bit on the higher side, but again. The restaurant is worth a drive up to Lumberville for an experience.

We dined on the terrace at the Black Bass on a beautiful evening last week. As noted in many reviews, the setting is magnificent. Our misfortune was that they were clearly understaffed and overwhelmed that evening which greatly detracted from our dining experience. At various points in the meal we had to direct the server, not acceptable for this kind of restaurant. We had to ask for the wine and drink menus; for extra plates to share a salad, fresh black pepper, water refills and for bread on the table. The bread oversight was particularly annoying since the server apologized for the very long wait for our entrees and the bread would have made it more comfortable for us. Many of the specials were not available at 7:30 ish! But, the fish and seafood that we ordered were well prepared and extremely fresh. I think that the greater insult here is when the restaurant is having that type an evening, it shouldn't impact on its guests and the manager needs to take care of the patrons by acknowledging the deficit and offering some sort of comp. We paid full price and didn't receive a full price experience!

We went for brunch on Sunday ,11:30 reservation, and were greeted well by the hostess. We were seated immediately at the window.(party of 2) 4 course brunch with 3 courses of choice an bottomless champagne. We asked for OJ with champagne and it was complimentary. Jill was our server, she was friendly and made us feel comfortable. We reviewed menu and asked asked for recommendations. We were not disappointed. I had the Shrimp. and grits which were spicy and flavorful. They were cooked perfectly. (first time eating grits) My date had the eggs benedict also cooked perfectly. All four courses were delicious. We walked out looking to explore full and very happy. $35 per person was a great deal. We will definitely be back.

Went for the Xmas Eve fixed price 4 course dinner. Started with an Old Fashioned - pretty strong drink! Went with shrimp bisque, scallops, their signature crab dish, and finally the sorbet for dessert. The crab was incredibly rich, but oh so good. Imagine cream of crab soup, a ton of seafood added to it, then baked. Our server was incredibly polite, but the kitchen seemed a little off with their timing. I can't wait to go again in 356 more days!

The restaurant is beautiful and full of history dating back to the revolutionary war. The food was ok. I ordered steak that was over done and accompanied by a sauce that was pretty weak. I Requested medium rare and it came out med well. My wife ordered a lobster noodle dish with chili oil. The pasta was great and the chili oil was a nice touch however the shrimp was so overdone that is was rubbery and tough...really tough. I would not think that on a sat night and at over $35 and entree that a high end restaurant like this would fail on base skills. We will probably give it another shot in a few months because it was excellent on earlier visits. Hit or miss I'm afraid.

Made a reservation for an occasion weeks in advance but when I arrived I was informed that 'opentable' does not get the preferred seating which would be the space overlooking the river...and most people's reason to dine there. I've been using open table for years and that's a first. But don't reserve online but phone in your reservation. And be specific. And good luck. The waitstaff were fabulous. The atmosphere, in the stone room, not overlooking the river, was lovely too. Great bar and you could eat there although I wouldn't. But great place for a drink. The food is very good. I would return and is lovely for a special occasion.

lovely venue, historic inn with great river views, most certainly didn't have act together on Memorial Day, staff struggling mightily with everything from seating guests to service, not a good experience at all

This is now my favorite restaurant in the Delaware River Valley, maybe even a tiny bit more than the Lovin' Oven. Lovin' Oven's wealthy hippie vibe and awesome brunch/lunch menu are still hard to beat, Black Bass' ambiance, location, and architecture has the Lovin' Oven beat. View/ambiance: If you're taking our your in-laws to impress them, this is the place. They've even built a new deck out onto the river, where you can enjoy the views of the river along with a lovely foot bridge to Bull's Island recreational area that sits between PA and NJ. The building alone is worth a meal here, with foot-thick walls, the most extraordinary table in the bar (you must check out the bar even if you're there for brunch), and hints of history all through the building. . Food: No hippie sprouts here a la Lovin' Oven, but a very well done, well rounded American with nice French and Italian touches. Cassoulet could have been a bit more assertive in its seasoning, but still lovely with a rich duck confit and sausage. Crab cake could have been a bit more...lumpy (more claw meat here in this version), but the pool of fresh tomato basil sauce that surrounded the cake saved it from being ordinary. The gnocchi was a revelation, though, pan fried, then served with spinach, white beans, and a pile of pine nuts. Simple ingredients, but perfectly cooked and presented. Definitely coming back, especially as the weather finally warms and we can enjoy the fresh air on the porch - I'm thinking their $35 prix fixe Sunday Champagne brunch!

The Black Bass Hotel is simply a cut above anything in the Doylestown/New Hope area for several reasons - 1. The food is tremendous. Everything is prepared with the greatest of attention to detail and the presentation is beautiful. 2. The service is outstanding and attentive in every single way 3. The rustic elegant décor and ambiance is unrivaled, especially with their riverfront location. 4. The wine selection is outstanding. If it were up to me, every time I go out to dinner with my wife, we'd go to the Black Bass.

Four of us dined in the downstairs tavern last night. Later, we had drinks in the upstairs tavern. From start to finish, the evening was ideal. Karen, our server and barmaid, was on top of her game. She could not have been more accommodating to our requests. The wine list was very good and the food was delicious. Two of us had the chateaubriand and two of us had prime rib sliders. Both selections were of the highest quality, tasty and well presented. At the upstairs bar, the bartender was so friendly and the cocktails perfect. The only reason, this review is not a five-star is because the downstairs tavern was a bit chilly. It was a very cold night which explains it but a little more heat would have been nice.

We were impressed with a very solid meal recently at the Black Bass. The restaurant itself used to be nearly falling into the Delaware River but thanks to a major investment by Jack Thompson (of the Thompson Automotive group of dealerships in nearby Doylestown PA) the building has been amazingly renovated and secured from sliding into the river. The salmon dish was very fresh and tasty! For that matter everything we ate was superb! We will be back!

My husband and I had an excellent experience eating at the Black Bass Inn. I had a salad with grilled calamari that melted in my mouth. And for an entree, I had the halibut which was cooked to perfection. It had a caper/raisin sauce that I was a bit nervous about but it turned out to be great. My husband had the pork chop which was moist and tender. The portions were very generous and service on point. The drinks were also delicious and plentiful while the view was priceless. We will be back!

Today's visit to the restaurant for lunch was pretty disappointing. We had requested a table by the window and were pretty much scolded by Zoe the receptionist that the food is the same wherever we sit. From there it went down hill as the entire staff (save one -our waitress) began to get ready for large party - maybe a wedding. We were sat right up against what can only be described as chaos. Moving dressers, moving large chairs that don't fit in the room.... Yelling over our table about silver wear. Spilling large vases of water, we were sneezing from either dust or table spray, they were yelling at each other about tablecloths... It was unbelievable. I get it's a big deal to have a wedding there and it's nice to see all the effort but it was a little shocking how oblivious they were about the existing customers sharing the space. The view is pretty, our waitress was nice and apologetic about her co-workers but it was a bummer of a lunch. I don't remember the food at all.

Nice, charming ambiance with a great view of the Delaware river. Food was good but our server, Eric, was devoid of any personality. I would try this place again and hope to get a different waiter. Menu is American and you can't really get any substitutions or ask for any changes. I wanted to order the fillet mignon so I asked the waiter if the chef would make it without the black pepper, since the menu said it was au poivre, but the chef could not accommodate the request, at least this is what the waiter said. Who in their right mind would ruin a beautiful cut of meat such as fillet mignon with a nasty crust of black pepper?!? I ended up getting the lamb stew, which was ok and a little tough and dry. I would like to give them another try.

Stayed there the night after we were married. I asked if we could have dessert sent to the room because we were exhausted. They gave no problem and were so nice. The room was very clean, cute balcony, amazing view, and huge tub! Will come back!

Part of our weekend visit to Pennsylvania included a Sunday drive through the beautiful country roads between Yardley and Lumberville where we stopped for brunch at the Black Bass Hotel (without reservations). Situated on the toe path next to the Delaware River Black Bass offers a scenic, rustic, charming environment to have champagne and a 3 course brunch. As of March 2013 your only option for brunch was the Prefix menu at $35 which included 4 courses. For the first course it was an Apple Crepe, Bagel n Lox, or a liver and salmon pâté. The Lox and Crepe were both very good to start, the salmon pâté spread was okay (people could use more bread), and the liver pâté was just not for my palette. Second course was just a fruit parfait which was rather elementary. That was your only option for a second course but I'd suggest checking with your waiter to see if you could pick something else. For entrees we had a burger, steak and eggs, Shrimp and Grits, and some sort of Egg Hash dish. For steak temp I asked for Medium Rare / Medium or Chef Recommended Temperate, I got Rare, however it has a nice sear on it so it seemed okay, but probably more rare for anyone's liking. The burger was a boring choice on my wife's part but it was good, the Shrimp and grits were excellent, I didn't know I liked grits. The mystery egg and hash I didn't try but it was a disappointment at the table. Desserts were all pretty delicious but no one could finish after all the food we had ate. Overall for the money I must say we were well fed and well taken care of. Our waitress Shirley was attentive, and delightful to be served by. I'm not sure I'd make this a routine stop but if in the area I'd certainly recommend trying it. The ingredients may be a little different than what you're accustomed to so keep an open mind and therefore I think a miss or two is still a great success.

We were disappointed to find that the seating overlooking the river was unavailable to us as we did not specify when the reservation was made. Even after telling them it was our anniversary. We were seated next to a couple where the woman was hacking throughout her entire dinner. Our table was over loose planks in the floor. Every time someone walked near my chair, I felt like I was sitting through an earthquake. When the unpleasant couple left, the bus boy cleared the table and proceeded to spray cleaner several times over the area, leaving us breathing in fumes while we were eating. While the waiter was great, the food was just good, and even when I brought this all to the attention of the hostess in charge, it was a lame "so sorry." No special dessert as promised either. Not impressed with all the hype over this place and would not bother to go back.

Had two good experiences here over the years. The location on the river can't be beat and the dining room is overflowing with a sense of regality. The food itself is a bit overpriced, but you definitely get a high-quality meal here. The brunch is to die for. Come here for any special occasion and you won't be let down.

I have never written a review before, but I feel compelled to do so after we had dinner last night. Parking was convenient and we were quickly led to our table. This is where the experience changed. Our waitress seemed angry that we were seated in her section. She was bordering on nasty all night. Our salads were great. My dinner entrée was bland at best. They served my Bass (tasted ok, but lacking spice), which was supposed to be their specialty, with a scoop of cold, unseasoned white rice!. The waitress mixed up the desserts. The service was slow, water not refilled, bread not brought out until the main meal all contributed to a bland evening. It was worth less than half of our bill. I will not go back.

I recently went to the Black Bass to attend their 5th year party last night. Typically, we come to the BB for special events, as it can be pricey, but they advertised locally regarding a $50 per couple dinner for their 5th anniversary, so I called to make a reservation, Little did I know this was a "Cattle call" for food- with people arriving all at once and not enough tables for one to sit down to even eat the food. I was really taken off guard as I had NO idea it would be this bad- finger food buffet with limited seating. It totally took the "class" out of the place and gave it that "Grand Buffet" feel. Sorry, I won't be coming back for any events again let alone dinner, as I thought this was poorly planned and executed- the staff were doing their best to keep up- but they were out numbered too.

The best and worst found here! We made reservations for my daughters graduation, choosing the Black Bass as the celebratory venue. We requested a riverside table (which was open) but were seated in a "nook". We waited a bit (longer than usual) for our waiter to come. When Erik arrived, he seemed rather distracted. He took our drink order. After serving our drinks, he took our dinner order. The food arrived 30 minutes later. My entree' was not presented but served to me several minutes later by another waitperson. Each entree' was DELICIOUS (the good) and the bus person asked how we liked our meal as she cleared our table. Erik NEVER checked with us, walked by our table with beverages for his other tables, and only attended to us when we asked a busser set to get our bill. A HUGELY disappointing night for what was to be a special occasion at an expensive restaurant. This was probably the worst waitstaff experienced in a decade!

Visited Black Bass recently with my fiance to have a nice dinner and try the food. We were more interested in eating here because we were considering this place as a possible wedding venue. Black Bass is a beautiful old inn located right next to the Delaware River and I can see why many couples would choose this location for a wedding. After we were seated for dinner, we ordered our food and drinks and waited and waited and waited. The kitchen was very slow that evening and it took about an hour for our food to arrive. I ordered the New York strip medium rare and my fiance ordered the Charleston Meeting Street crab; their signature dish according to the menu. My steak was pretty good but I wasn't blown away. My finace didn't really enjoy her crab too much. Both dishes are what I would call an old school method of preperation. Almost like if you visited this restaurant in the 1980's it would have been prepared and tasted exactly the same way. For the price of an entree and the amount of time we had to wait I don't think this place is worth it. The server was very nice and the manager did visit our table apologizing for the wait. We were comped a desert and a couple drinks which was nice but again the food was just not what we were looking for. I think we'll mark this place off our list and check out other locations. We visited this location for a tour last month and we were told we couldn't try the food if we booked with them and now I can see why. Considering food costs are a majority of what you pay for when booking a wedding then we'll skip this place for sure. FYI, Black Bass is listed at 3 dollar signs but each entrée is around 30 to start . This place won't break the bank but it's fairly pricey and should be listed at a 4.

The bf and I went to New Hope for two reasons, it was my birthday-ish and New Hope/Lambertville was having their restaurant week. I chose this even though it was off the beaten path. Typically we stay at a B&B and walk everywhere, but the menu looked too good to pass up. The drive from NH to the restaurant was beautiful. We followed the Delaware to Lumberville. As we pulled in we noticed many fancy cars. a Bentley for goodness sakes. We walked into and there was a lot of nice woodwork. One thing to note, if you are looking for a trendy/hipster place, this is not it. You might find a lot of people who've had hip replacements. I immediately felt out of place in my little black dress, but we got a drink at the bar and then a few minutes later our seat by the window overlooking the Delaware, very romantical. I started with the Wild Cream of Mushroom Soup. It lacked a little salt, but I added a smidge and it was perfect. Bf ordered the Baby Spinach salad. He's not a big salad fan, so I ate most of it. The goat cheese was creamy and the toasted pine nuts added a great crunch and flavor. For my main entree I have the Oven Roasted Sea Bass that was topped with a gumbo sauce. It had crawfish and lump crab meat. It was serve with veggies and rice. The Sea Bass was cooked perfectly and the gumbo sauce had the right amount of kick. I was disappointed that the rice was overcooked so I didn't eat much of it, it was pretty clumpy. Bf order their signature dish, the Charlestown Meeting Crab. It was pretty huge chunks of crab swimming in a divine cheese sauce. It was amazing, but reminded me of a very fancy crab dip. It was served with saffron rice and veggies. For dessert I had the creme brulee, my favorite dessert. Bf orders an berry pie. Pie is not really my thing, so I didn't try it. Overall, the meal was good. I would've have been disappointed if I paid full price for the meal. It didn't seem worth the 35-40 per plate price tag. The service was so-so, our server didn't seem to want to be there and wasn't around much. I'm guessing she realized we were not locals and kind of gave up on us. It didn't ruin our evening by any means. The meal was good. I'm not sure I would go back, but I'm glad we went.

Truly, one of the worst experiences in several years!! Horrible! Server started off not having any knowledge of the menu. She appeared with about 15, 8x10 sheets of paper with her notes. I thought I was being served a subpoena. Even armed with a book load of papers, she had to run back to the kitchen to answer the most simple questions. (is the duck served on the bone?) In the middle of taking our order, she realized they were out of salmon, so she ran to each table to tell them. When I asked why she took off in the middle of taking our order, she said she is very busy and we need to be more understanding! Ha! I got up to speak to the manager at that point. You can't make this stuff up. He was either drunk or stoned. He could hardly get the words out. He told me not to be concerned, he would come over and "take care of everything". It turns out, "taking care of everything" meant reprimanding the server and sending her back to the table. Said manager then walked by our table trying to avoid us. I said,"did you really send back the same idiot?" I then asked for the check after having drinks and appetizers. We moved on to the Carversville Inn and had a wonderful dinner with a great server. Shame, because the ambiance is beautiful at Black Bass, but we won't return until they go out of business and re-open, which shouldn't take very long.

The Black Bass is what I'd call a "high potential" restaurant. Some great components, but so bad in service that the location can't live up to it. The restaurant is excellent in terms of ambiance and the quality of their menu items. Avoid the "Local Night" specials menu if you eat here Monday-Wednesday. I need to qualify the service component, which lost the Black Bass 1 star from this review. The staff is not very welcoming and I've had better wait service at diners (no offense to diners). I'm not one for lists, but if I'm going to complain, I'll point out exactly what was wrong so the business can improve: - Left the table for a refill of my soft drink and never returned with drink (I received no refills) - Reaching across the dinner plate to refill water - Infrequent table visits, inattentive, infrequent offers for refills - Unfriendly attitude - Poor communication - Did not check on the quality of entrees after servicing - Poorly served food, forcefully placing plates on table in front of customer - Left table empty for 25 minutes (time was clocked) after dinner between clearing plates and serving desert, with no visits to communicate - No offer for coffee or espresso with desert order The service was so bad, that we would disqualify this place from future visits based simply on the fear we would have the same server (I have a policy of not mentioning names for poor or average service, only exceptional servers are named in my reviews). From a business perspective, the server is the face to the customer and a representative of the business. Either the server is ill equipped or trained to appropriately serve the customer or is apathetic about their job and their employer. Whatever the reason may be, it is unacceptable. On a positive note, the dining room has a fantastic view of the Delaware river and an excellent look and feel, the time and investment to fix the Black Bass were well done. From a food perspective, my girlfriend had the Horseradish Stuffed Shrimp as an appetizer. I also sampled it, and I have to say, it tastes incredible. Every flavor between the shrimp, bacon and horseradish compliment each other perfectly. The shrimp is cleaned the entire way to the edge of the tail, a fancy detail for the appetizer. I had the Boston Bibb Salad, which was very good with its combination of citrus, cheese and almonds. The goat cheese is a highlight of the salad. For entrees, my girlfriend had the duck and it was cooked perfectly and tasted excellent. From the "Locals Night" menu, I had the Sautéed Shrimp with Fresh Fettuccini. The dish was lackluster, the flavor of the pasta and the shrimp outweighed the tomato cream sauce. The sauce was nearly flavorless, which made the plate closer to plain noodles. I wouldn't recommend the dish. For dessert, I had the Black and White cheesecake. It was delicious, layered with devils food cake and a solid combination of flavor. Based on this experience, we would not return. There's a high chance you'll like the food, but an equal probability you'll hate the experience.

We have been going to the BB for years. We have brought many out of town, local friends & family there. Many a special occasion dinners there. We have had dinner, lunch and brunch there. Never a bad meal, never a bad experience. We really missed them when they closed for while. The renovations are OK. We miss the ambiance of the "old" place. The prices are exactly right for the service, quality of the food and location. This is a must in the area. And we will continue to return and sing their praises.

People eat with their eyes and it does not matter if the food tastes good, if it doesn't look good there is a big problem. And the Black Bass has a big problem. All I can imagine is that the day we went the regular chef called out sick and the dishwasher, who happened to take a 'Food Styling's 101' class at TGI Fridays many years ago, was pressed into service at the last minute. When we moved to Pennsylvania in 1993 and discovered the Black Bass it quickly became our favorite special place, so much so that we got married there in 1999. Friends and relatives still mention the delicious food they had that day and how magical our wedding was. We went back every year for our anniversary and were never disappointed with the food. We had stopped in to see the renovation last summer but last week was the first time we actually ate there since it reopened. They did a beautiful job of retaining the feel of the place while upgrading what needed to be upgraded. (though a nostalgic part of me of course misses the uneven floors, the tiny ladies room and dusty British memorabilia they had scattered about everywhere!). I ordered the Molasses Rum and Pepper Painted Salmon and received my plate of food with dismay. The salmon was smeared with an unfortunate slimy, sweetish extremely unappealing "paint" that I quickly scraped off. It came with a sweet potato pancake that was hidden under the salmon and I am sure it was hiding because it was embarrassed by how soggy it was. The banana salsa looked like it was regurgitated by a Mexican clown and since bananas don't last long once cut my salsa steadily disintegrated to a soupy goop as I ate my meal. The pancake and bananas were both liberally sprinkled with red and green peppers that looked quite festive in a "Chi Chi's a la 1987" way but the sharp taste of green peppers did not go well with the sweetness of the banana nor the sweet "paint" on the salmon. Hubby went for the special - a cassoulet of lamb and duck that was served in a confusing shallow dish with the meat in an alarming, fussy clock pattern, Trying to make it look "fancy" took away from the core of what it's supposed to be - a hearty, rustic stew served in a bowl or casserole dish. The parsley scattered on the rim of the plate was almost unbearably offensive. This all said I will admit that the food was mostly well cooked and tasty. Usually if a place is bad it's the opposite of this situation - the food looks good but tastes like crap. Here the food looked pretty awful but the salmon was moist and tasty , the soggy sweet potato pancake was well seasoned and the beans in the cassoulet were deliciously spiced. The biscuits were actively bad though, with no redeeming qualities, simply warm tasteless wads. Am I being incredibly picky? Yes and that is because 1) I know how excellent their food was in the past and 2) when you are paying top $ these details really matter. I am extremely dubious now about the claim on their website that the same executive chef they had 12 years ago is still working there...?? This was definitely not the delicious, perfectly executed food we used to have there. As far as other dining variables - the food took a looooooooog time to get to the table - the waitress was great - the view out to the Delaware is amazing. We will no doubt give this place another shot, we have too much history with it not to but I am sad to say I am not expecting much.

What a great find! It is historical, quaint and the food was amazing for dinner. We went for my birthday and the restaurant even surprised us with a little box of chocolates to take back to our B & B. I would definitely go back. Ask for a seat with a view of the bridge so pretty and the fire pits were cozy too.

Back in the 2000s this was the premier places to eat, superb food at a tad above moderate prices. Then sometime at the end 2010 they had a change of management and everything stared sliding down except for the price which is 4 $$$$ rather than the 3 suggested on Yelp or Open table.com Zagat says $54 a plate average. A bit high indeed for a place with same food rating as Fountain Side Cafe in Horsham, PA. Decor was very good. Service was there lowest mark. If you weigh just ambiance and scenery it would be hard to beat. A lovely place to go in the spring or summer for that reason. The food is nothing spectacular and the attire is always dressy. What I call a status restaurant more than a gourmet one.

I came here for the Sunday brunch a couple weeks ago ( 4 courses and unlimited champagne for 35 bucks!!) The view was breathtaking and the restaurant is really charming; The food and service were lacking a bit however. While the staff was extremely friendly they moved very slow. Bussers would walk by empty plates and not take them, severs were very slow to take drink orders, get dessert menus, etc. To pay almost 40 dollars a person for brunch I want top notch service, meaning I want my plate cleared before the next course comes out, which didn't happen. The food could have been a little better as well. I ordered the eggs Benedict and the hollandaise sauce was dried up on the eggs like it sat for a while. I also tried the ham under the egg by itself and it was so horrible I had to spit it out. No flavor and the texture was rubber. With all this being said the place is charming and the staff is sweet. For fine dining prices I want fine dining service and food. A couple little tweeks and it can be that.

This is a beautiful restaurant with a great view of the river. We went last night, a Tuesday, with our friends and had a great meal. I liked Shirley, our server. We shared two appetizer portions of the squid between the four of us and it was tender and excellent. My husband had the filet and it was cooked perfectly and tender. I had the best meal I have had in a long time - a whole Bronzino with romesco sauce and fried crayfish. Shirley expertly cut up the fish for me and it was so outstanding. The side of vegetables were the least appealing - overcooked baby potatoes with haricot vert. With drinks, two appetizers, and $30+ entrees, it's not exactly an inexpensive proposition but worth it for a special dinner option.

Review your bill before paying. We dined with a party of six. They added a 20% gratuity based on the bill and tax. They then had another receipt line for tip. Food was good, but the management is a bit deceitful. Their wine prices are marked up about 175%. You can get a better deal and meal without getting gouged. Don't think I will be heading their way again.

I ate here three years ago on Valentine's Day and had one of the greatest meals of my life. In fact, I told the waitress that I wanted to give the chef a hug. Well, although we are local, it took three years to get back and I was eager for another night of culinary ecstasy. Tonight we took the simple route of fish and chips, a burger, and calamari for an appetizer. The calamari would have been good if you like things fried at a low temperature so that they come out soggy, and the salt content would have been fine if I was a white-tailed deer on a salt lick in January. I mean, come on guys, frying is an art that needs to be taught. The chef of this kitchen has obviously put people in charge without the proper training. The fish and chips were another delight--soggy, dry, and tasteless. I mean this was below the level of hake fillets or the dreaded tilapia sold at Costco. The burger that my girlfriend had was good but it was served on a Frisbee size roll with a Swedish meatball burger patty. Once again, amateur stuff that a first year line cook shouldn't tolerate--and the tomato, just don't serve them if the alternative is a gas ripened piece of cardboard. If it aint in season--don't serve it. The staff was wonderful and we did not complain about anything. I would give this one more shot, but I think the chef of three years ago has migrated elsewhere, or developed a serious case of dementia.

Years ago my wife and I had dinner at the Black Bass for our anniversary with fond memories. We thought we would give it a try for Valentine's day. What a mistake! It was a priced fixed menu, which was fine. With an inexpensive bottle of wine the total for 2 was $250 with tip. Again, that was expected. Unfortunately although the ambiance was great, the food was mediocre at best. The service as adequate up unitl they asked us to hurry up and leave because somebody wanted our table. MInd you we sat down at 7:40PM and this was at 9:45pm, so we were not hogging the table. As a matte of fact we had paid the bill and were about to put our coats on when the waitier came over to us. Upon leaving we informed the waiter, and manager that we thought it was rude, poor service and had never experienced somthing like this before, we were told that they routinely ask folks to free up tables so others can sit. We will never go back and neither should you!

went for an early valentine lunch on 2/12. we go every 6 months for the experience. nice environment, beautiful property. the kitchen could not get a BURGER order right, despite THREE tries. Here's my wildly complex order: "Burger medium no onions...." my wife ate her (so/so) sandwich alone, and 40 minutes later, I went to Wawa for a $4 sandwich. very disappointing. despite my knowing the owners, the management was less-than-concerned about the dismal experience. "sorry." Wow, scratch that beautiful building off the list of preferred restaurants. you are only as good as the weakest links in the chain. cooks, managers are essential.... we will tell 100 locals to "pass" on the Bass.

Such a beautiful setting and historic building. Yet I did not have a great time. I think they have a problem with parties. I watched the hip luxury vehicles pull into the parking lot on a Saturday late afternoon. It looks like the clientele are trendy and affluent locals. And a party for 50 strangers didn't excite the staff. Look at the available menus. They will pass appetizers but you only get to choose three or for a premium four. Haven't they heard that variety is....... anyway, of the three I did not eat the two seafood pieces, and was stuck with several pieces of chicken poblano quesadilla. It was either that or go hungry for another hour. A quick and trendy salad of field greens which I don't prefer. Then, finally, a basket of assorted dinner rolls. I did not get one of the two plain French rolls with sesame seeds. I had a choice of multi-grains or a sweetish, rye roll. I asked for some plain rolls. Entrees started to come out but never another roll. My chicken pasta was a very good lunch portion. I could have eaten two more. My wife and daughter ordered very rare filet mignon which were delivered medium well. My daughter was too hungry to send her's back and she ate. Our waitress never showed up again during entrée. I asked another waitress, she said she would be right back, but never returned either. Finally, while the dishes were being cleared, I got to tell my waitress the meat was overcooked. One waitress, overhearing, said, "Good luck getting mid-rare out of our kitchen". Coffee was on the table when the dinner re-fire finally arrived. And nobody came with coffee re-fills either. So the scene was beautiful. The food was good when you could get what you wanted. The service ruined the experience. It was just the sort of place I look for, but I scratched them off my list.

Stopped in on a lazy Sunday afternoon for brunch. What should have been a nice break after a walk along the river turned quite stressful. The restaurant was basically empty, but still took our waitress a good 20 minutes to come take our order. At that point we said we were in a hurry, only to get her moving. She could be one of the worst waitresses we've had in awhile. During our hour and a half there she NEVER offered coffee, checked if we needed anything or needed to know how our meal was, etc. The food was good, but with that kind of service for that price ($35 pp for brunch) I expected a cup of coffee and a decent server.

The atmosphere and ambiance of Black Bass Hotel really can't be beat. History and delicious food come together here for a great dining experience. The panoramic windows offer a gorgeous view of the river. Outside they have a fire pit and cozy little chairs so you can enjoy the great food & drinks while enjoying the scenery as well. I especially enjoyed the bar which was decorated in royal family memorabilia dating way back. My meal definitely ranked as one of the best I have ever had in my life. I had a fish special (swordfish I think?) while everyone else at my table opted for steaks. The steak was cooked with a variety of spices & a creamy corn sauce...it looked delicious. My fellow diners all concured that it was the best steak they have ever had. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive. She even had the chef custom prepare a steak for my dad. The apps and dessert were as equally fabulous as the entrees. Since Black Bass is elegant and pricey, I would recommend it for a special celebration dinner. Definitely not your average restaurant.

We had a reservation for 4 and the hostess put us at a table for 2 in the corner stuffed with 4 place settings. The wide metal legs in the middle of a 2 top table made it incredibly uncomfortable for two of us as we had to sit back from the table. There were tables for 4 available but the hostess (blondish hair/white dress) would not seat us at any of them. The wine glasses were left on the table throughout the meal. Even though we were ordering drinks, none of us were drinking wine. Service in general was extremely inattentive - we always had to flag down staff for service. We had empty water glasses for most of the meal. The food was mediocre/bad - very heavy and stodgy. Even the bread was dense supermarket quality/not fresh/seemed like it had been microwaved in an attempt to warm the staleness out slightly. This place has a good location, but is poorly managed, with an overambitious menu for its kitchen skill level. I will never be back unless they do a complete reboot with new management, new tables without the truss legs, improved hiring/training of staff, a fresher/lighter menu with local ingredients, and a smaller menu (half the current menu is dedicated to 'gluten free' dishes when only 1/150 people are gluten intolerant).

Long ago and far away, in the predeluvian 1990s, my then-fiancee and I discovered the Black Bass, nestled along the now increasingly unruly Delaware River in tiny Lumberville, Pennsylvania and not far from the trendy town of New Hope. The Black Bass was our monthly go-to Sunday brunch place. The old Bass had the look and feel of a colonial outpost -- one of those taverns redolent with spies that you find described in the novels of Graham Greene and John Le Carré. It was a magnet for British ex-pats, some of whom had bona fide intelligence credentials. One Sunday we sat next to a dapper gentleman with an Oxbridge accent who carried on near simultaneous conversations in several languages, among them Russian and Turkish. The pre-flood Bass had the ambience of a smuggler's cove. Part of its charm lay in its slightly frayed, shabby genteel atmosphere. The floorboards creaked and the upper diningroom overlooking the river sloped like the windward deck of a pirate ship. Sometimes it felt like you were going to slide off and into the water -- especially after a particularly prolonged champagne brunch. The food was consistently excellent, if predictable, bruncheon faire. The omelettes were made to order by one of the Bass's several talented chefs, but the lines were long and the old eighteenth-century rooms and hallways too small and too narrow to accommodate the back up. Queues of people with empty plates and enormous appetites stood patiently and watched the waters of the Delaware drift by as one succulent breakfast after another was delivered from two, and only two, steaming pans. Waiting was part of the brunch buffet culture at the Bass. You expected it, and no one was in a hurry to see you to the door. Those were long, lazy and delightful afternoons. Through the early 'oughts the Bass experienced several damaging floods. One owner after another tried to rescue this Bucks County institution from extinction, only to run up against insurmountable financial or physical obstacles. The Bass was shuttered in 2008 and put up for auction. Just when all seemed lost, Jack Thompson -- a prominent Dolyestown auto dealer -- purchased the place in March of 2008 and vowed to restore it to its former quality and prominence. Thank you, Mr. Thompson. Today my family and I booked our Easter brunch at the revived Black Bass and enjoyed it immensely. Gone are the singing, slanted floorboards, impossibly small bathroom, and too-close layout. The new design skillfully maintains the feel of the old Bass while keeping the atmosphere fresh. While we miss the sound of caged songbirds serenading us from the front office (a trademark of the Bass as we once knew and loved it), the new Black Bass is quite commendable. Today's Sunday brunch was a holiday prixe fixe meal with multiple courses. They've eliminated buffet-style service, offering a broad enough array of menu entrees to appeal to anyone. The only self-serve, all-you-can-eat component of the Bass experience remains the signature dessert table -- a tad too dairy for some of us but quite pleasing nonetheless (the correctly tangy key lime tartlets were superb). We began the meal with an inexpensive but serviceable champagne, a very tasty tray of breads (including a very satisfying herbal spoon bread and savory cheese buns) and excellent appetizers. My perfectly ripened melon and good prosciutto arrived at the table drizzled with a crème fraiche and basil sauce that was noteworthy. Today's roast was a Chateaubriand in a flavorful mushroom demi-glace that was slightly too salty but complex enough to make up for the bite. My wife was fortunate enough to have a perfectly grilled and encrusted piece delivered to her place that was seared to perfection. Our harried but very friendly waitress forgot to put my entree order in and served my cut of meat rare rather than medium well, as ordered, but the meal was so good that I was in a forgiving mood and enjoyed it nonetheless. The vegetables were well prepared and pleasingly presented. Our side dishes of nicely seasoned mashed potato pancakes complemented the Chateaubriand well. The food at the newly restored Black Bass is excellent and we know that the table service will catch up soon enough. While there will never be anything quite like the old Bass, the new establishment owned by Mr. Thompson more than compensates for the bouts of nostalgia that washed over us as we watched the Delaware flow under the Bull Island foot bridge and past the expansive new windows. No one around us recalled coups past; the elegaic songs of caged birds were notably absent. But the new Bass is just as good as the old Bass, and in some ways much improved. Bravo.

I dined here last night and the food was exceptional. The service left much to be desired - best guess was this resulted from short staffing the outdoor patio and possible inexperience of the server. The atmosphere if you can get a seat outside overlooking the Delaware River on a comfortably warm humid night is probably unlike anything else you'll find in the area. I'm impressed with the history of the property, but I am a sucker for suck things being a Bostonian. Here's the rundown on the grub: - Salt and Peppered Crispy Squid with shallot, garlic and sweet pepper cracklings (A) - very good and probably the best appetizer on the menu -Butter Poached Maine Lobster with Jumbo Shrimp mascarpone enriched risotto and saffron vanilla sauce (A) - the Risotto was the most exceptional thing I tasted last night, but this entire dish is a must order for the table -Grilled Lamb Chop with Rosemary Jalapeno Mint Sauce with warm apple compote and scalloped potatoes (A-) Perfectly done lamb with an interested take on scalloped potatoes -Caribbean Spice Rubbed Pork Chop with black bean pancake and tropical fruit salsa (B+) - solid, but probably not my first choice -Black Bass Flourless Chocolate Cake - (B+) I thought it was ok, but the rest of the table was impressed - table was also impressed by the strawberry shortcake (not my thing) I heard mixed reviews on the Filet and positive reviews on the Ravioli, but tried neither. Easily a 5 star experience if you get great service and sit outside. BTW - excellent martinis.

Since I'm a Thai fan, I tried the Thai mussels app special and the barbecued chicken and both were very good. The view and location are great and the river view deck is on the eastern side of this historic building so it's shaded on hot summer afternoons and early evenings. The inside seems well maintained and like a first class country inn. The downstairs bar looks cozy and like a great place for cold weather gatherings. Service is good but can be a little slow and inexperienced.

My partner and I stayed at the hotel for two nights. The location is perfect. You are a pleasant, easy drive away from New Hope and Lambertville, and you are right on the river. There is a pedestrian bridge right next to the hotel that takes you to Bull Recreation Island for kayaking, caoneing, hiking, and swimming. You are also right on the tow path for walking and biking. The little village of Lumberville is quaint. There is a general store across the street from the Black Bass that serves breakfast and lunch. We had omelets there both mornings as we woke up too late for breakfast at the hotel. The coffee at the general store is also excellent. We stayed in the Village Suite. The room and bathroom were lovely. Everything is new and very clean and spacious. The bed, pillows, and linens were luxurious. I liked staying in a small inn as opposed to an overwhelming hotel. We got to peek into the other rooms as well and they all are of the same caliber-- the River Suite in particular is gorgeous and has amazing river views. We will definitely stay here in the future. The price and amenities are on point for this area. We used to stay at the Woolverton Inn in Stockton, NJ, but it's gotten ridiculously expensive (over $300 on a weekday for the same kind of room you get at the Black Bass). Now, some things of note: 1) The Village Suite and some of the other rooms do face the road. There is road noise, but it is minimal. River Road is a country road and so it was only really noticeable during the day. I suspect that the rooms facing the river do not have an issue with this. But if you are sensitive to noise, this is something to consider. 2) Another noise issue is the restaurant downstairs. This is an old building and the walls are not sound proof. You will hear other people going into their rooms upstairs and there is some noise from diners between the hours of 5-10pm. This did not bother us, as it is something I expect from an inn that has a restaurant. By the time we were ready to go to bed, it was quiet. But again, if you are sensitive to noise or are very private, this may not be the place for you. We dined at the restaurant for dinner one evening. We had a table by the large windows and the view was spectacular. Service was friendly and prompt. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. The food was good, though not particularly memorable. I thought the prices were way too expensive for the quality of the meal. My partner and I shared an appetizer, and we both ordered the macadamia nut encrusted mahi-mahi. I ordered a seltzer water. Before adding in the tip, the total was $87. I live in Baltimore, so I am used to city prices, but this seemed outrageous to be based on the amount of food we ordered and the quality of the meal. It was good, but nothing special. I would say next time we will skip the restaurant. The Sergeantsville Inn, about 10 minutes away in New Jersey, has a much more inventive menu and is less expensive. I would also suggest Lily's On the Canal in Lambertville or No. 9 Restaurant (also in Lambertville) as other options to consider. Overall, a very pleasant stay. We loved the hotel and look forward to spending more time there. I would love to stay in the River Suite and also Baxter's Retreat (a cottage across the road from the inn). If I were to eat at the Black Bass again, I would try the Tavern instead.

When you make an 8:00 reservation it's not pleasant to be seated at 9. Hostess said she'd do something nice.... Not. Seems like the Inn of Broken Promises. Waitress mailed it in and seemed bored to be there. Food was ok but nothing to get excited about. As my old friend said, "never expect a good meal from a place with a view". So true.
