I used to love this place. The food was great and the atmosphere was so inviting. The past couple of visits have been such a disappointment. I had to send my fish and chips back because it was so under cooked a few months ago. This past week I ordered the beef stew that was on special. I couldn't believe the mess I was served. Two cold potatoes, under cooked carrots, and a few tiny pieces of beef. On top of that they charged $23.00 for the plate. I won't be back any time soon. That dish was worth $10 tops. What kind of a kitchen would send something like that out? For that kind of money do yourself a favor and drive a little further into Collegeville or Phoenixville. I recommed Black Lab or Railroad Street and Bar...they have the most amazing grilled cheese!

Sadly I was rather disappointed. I had the spinach, roasted acorn squash and roasted pear salad. There was no taste, I mean, even the dressing was tasteless. The squash and pears were cold, not even warmed to make a better flavor and honestly, there was no taste to the dressing. My husband had the steak pizza which was good. Beers were good as usual. Busy time and felt rushed. Just don't get that salad. Try something else as I know other menu items are much better.

We had lunch here today and it was delish. I really liked the outdoor seating with picnic tables. Our server was friendly and speedy. The beer list is extensive,as expected. My fiancé was excited that they had sweet baby Jesus pnb stout. I got a pumpkin beer. I was asked if I wanted a sample first, which I appreciate. I ordered the strawberry ricotta salad and he ordered the fried catfish sandwich. We split the fries. All the food was great and the aoli for the fries was awesome. The only complaint I had is that the fries were a tad too salty for me.

We ate here because it was close to the Philadelphia premium outlets. What a nice surprise! The atmosphere was great, lots of different types of beer to try. The food was outstanding! I recommend the short ribs and polenta. We'll definitely be back.

I'm giving Craft Ale House 2 stars as a gift, and that's due to the excellent collection of beers. If you're a beer fanatic, this is your place.....IF you can put up with the down sides: Food is average at best. The menu consists of 8 (that's right - eight) entrée selections. Can't find something you're in the mood for out of 8? No problem, right, because typically places that have such a limited menu offer lots of great dinner specials, usually depending on what's available seasonally. Not so here - 1 special! So I opted for their Fresh Scallop entree. Probably would not have been that bad (a little bland), if they weren't so COLD (here's a tip to any chef who is aspiring to be better then average - when you prepare a hot dinner, serve it on a HOT PLATE. Otherwise, your hot dinner will be but luke warm in a matter of seconds. Especially seafood! Cooking 101). My wife ordered their steak, medium rare, which came out medium well (ruined) and a little bit tough. All in all, neither entrée was worth the prices they charge. Noise - they had live music.....in the dining room! Now don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of live music. I was a professional musician myself for 25 years. But I don't want to hear it in the dining room while I'm eating. IMO the BAR area is the place for music. So what you have is not only loud music in your dining room, but also 30 people trying to shout above the loud music in order to have a conversation. Not a great atmosphere for a relaxing dinner! IMO, if your place doesn't have an alternative dining area away from the live music, then you shouldn't have it. Service - our waitress was very nice, but slow. Every time I finished a beer, it was almost a 10 min wait to get another one. Granted, it was a very busy Friday night, so I actually blame the management for not having enough help on hand. And maybe a couple of the others were a little overworked too, because they had kind of a nasty attitude overall. Bottom line - not a place I would make it a point to go back to and we live only 8 min away. That's a shame for them, because my wife and I are very devoted customers when we find a place that impresses us.

This is the go-to place for my wife and I on date night. The food is consistently good; we usually order a couple of appetizers plus an order of mussels for our meal and that makes us happy. The beer selection is fantastic, with the best bottle selection around in the W. Philly burbs, and the drafts are usually equally as good, but I do wish they'd have a few more European drafts on a regular basis. There's usually a few out of the 12+ taps, but they could put on a couple more. Just my preference for Belgian and belgian style beers, that's all.

Living out in Royersford I find myself usually in the city of Conshy for dining out. However stumbled across Craft Ale House when going to Ace Hardware one day and been best thing I ever found. The place doesnt look fancy from outside but the inside is gorgeous. Dark wood and cream color walls give it the great gastropub feel. The food was AMAZING!!!! Nothing what you would think. The menu has everything from burgers, which are freshly ground when ordered, to shrimp quinoa salad with arugula. I have had both there so far and needless to say absolutely amazing. Fresh and you can taste the food. They do not put too much sauce on it. Also the burger was done exactly how I ordered; medium rare with char on outside. As for drinks they do only carry beer but have a wide selection of gluten free. This puts it at 4 for me. They should offer at least wine. I will visit till I try the whole menu and have already recommended friends to make the drive then go to outlets.

Completely infuriated. CAH happens to be one of my favorite 'local' watering holes, but after this past Saturday night, I don't think we'll ever be visiting there again. Our Saturday night started out great. We arrived at CAH around 7 and put our name in for a 45 min wait. We found one available seat on the wall adjacent to the dining area to stash our coats, purse, etc and grab a beer while we waited. And we did wait. It was about an hour until the hostess came over and seated us. We perused the menu (although being semi regulars, we knew what we wanted) and ordered more drinks. The food came out and we ate, we talked about our week, we drank, and we ate some more. Our waitress was wonderful - even convinced us to have the apple cobbler (which was delish) and coffee for dessert. By 9 o'clock, with coffee and cobbler still on the table, we were asked by someone in a CAH shirt (I can only assume it was the manager) to vacate the table because 'other people are still waiting for tables.' Never in my life have I been asked to vacate a table while I was still eating/drinking so other patrons could take my place. It's disrespectful, shows poor customer service, and is extremely humiliating.

First time here. Stopped here with a friend for lunch on a Saturday. A very good tap selection and great bottle selection. Sat outside in their patio area and it was good. Friendly and timely service. Had the spicy mussels which were good but not spectacular. I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was excellent. The pork was tender and had a good taste to it. I would have seasoned the meat a bit more. I got the roasted peppers added but didn't really notice them. For a sandwich like this, you need to stick large parts of the long hot in the roll. They also stuff the long roll with meat. I almost couldn't finish which is rare for me. The fries were fresh with a great seasoning to them. Would I come back to the place?-yes. Would I recommend others check it out?-yes.

First time here, LOVED the vast beer selection. Has beers that Wegmans/Whole Foods do not carry. Great prices for the drafts of the brews. Only ordered the french fries but was very happy with how it turned out. Friends ordered soup of the day, sandwich and cheese plate and all were happy. Smaller clean restaurant. Older crowd(not many folks in there 20's when we went on a friday night) Will be back to this amazing place.

Took client. Beer list was fun, and we sampled several. Waiter was a bit pretentious, but I've had worse. I had mussels with sand. It was gritty experience. They had a long wait list, and threw us out. As my client said, "I've been thrown out of better places." Not the experience I'm looking for when entertaining clients.

Awesome selection of local beers, friendly and prompt service. The fireplace added a nice, soothing touch to the decor. I was torn between the pot pie and the house-ground burgers, but I chose the latter. I asked for it medium well (slightly pink in the middle). I like my burgers mid well because I don't want TOO much juice making my bun all soggy. I ordered it with cajun spice. My burger, unfortunately, was beyond well done. There was not a touch of pink to be seen and the edges of the burger were charred and had to be pulled off. I didn't taste any cajun spice, so I would save yourself the 50 cents and leave it off your burger. It might have tasted okay if it were not over done, but I felt that it was certainly not worth 11 dollars, and it was nowhere near the best burger I've ever had. The fries, on the other hand, were really great. Crispy, hand-cut, and tossed with just the right amount of kosher salt. I would consider coming back to try a different item, but I don't think I'd get the burger again.

I have to agree with just about every review regarding Craft Ale House. By far, the best selections of beer for 75 miles. I would say they even rival Monks in Philly for beer selections. Second that with a very knowledgeable staff. There's dozens of beers available, they know them each and can pair your meal accordingly. Third, a simple menu. FINALLY, a chef/owner that gets it. Keep the menu small (about twenty items or so) AND DO IT WITH EXCELLENCE. A unique variety of fresh, local ingredients; savory and sweet flavors abound. Only one suggestion; I think the chef should change the menu a bit more often for his regulars. I was there 5 times over the past year (10 month span) and the menu was the same. Although there were some very good specials. I deduct no points for that, it's just a suggestion. Otherwise, the menu is always executed with perfection. As for service, you don't get much more personal. The front and back of house staff make every effort to please. On top of that, there are nights with live music, both open mic (always great participation) and professional. What a treat. The property itself is small, seats about 50-70 and can get a bit tight. They always fill up fast on the usual nights, so try to get there early. If you must wait, then wait. It's worth it. The friendly crowd and staff will keep you entertained. For beer and food lovers, Craft is a sure fire win. IF YOU ENJOYED MY REVIEW, PLEASE RATE IT AND LEAVE A COMMENT.

If you like Craft beer and good food, look no further. Craft Ale House has a huge selection of bottled craft beers (approx 450) and around 15 beers on tap each day. If you're not sure what you like, the bartenders are there to help. They are very well-versed and knowledgeable about all the different types of beer, and can make a recommendation based on your likes or dislikes. The food there is equally good. Their burgers and fries are top notch as is the roast pork sandwich. The chicken pot pie with side salad and their personal pizzas are a close second. They usually have two or three desserts on the menu, and the bread pudding is to die for!!!! Last week we shared beignets with cafe au lait dipping sauce. Awesome sauce!!! The only negative is the size of the place. It gets really crowded on weekends, and people tend to hover over you while you're sitting at the bar. Craft Ale House is easily one of out top three places.

Great beer list, can't argue with that. The first time I ate here (a few years ago), everything was awesome across the board. I totally loved it. This past time... it was really bad. I was wanting it to be awesome, the beer was awesome, food looked awesome, but meh. The mushroom ricotta ravioli appetizer was $12 for 3 ravioli. Which would be totally fine if the ravioli was really intense and delicious. I was ready and waiting for delicious ravioli. YEARNING for delicious ravioli. The $4/pc ravioli were not delicious. The filling had zero flavor, was devoid of salt, and the ricotta was undetectible. Sauce was super lemony, which would be fine, but it was totally out of balance w/ the lame ravioli. No bueno! Smoked pulled chicken spring roll... again, no flavor, no seasoning, not a hint of salt. The chili sauce was OK I guess. Same chili sauce as on the scallops, which again, had no seasoning. Mushroom soup was tasty, totally yum. I thought the tarragon garnish was weird but maybe you'd like it. Anyway, for this bland ickiness we paid a hefty price and waited 45min. The table next to us had finished their dinner and was then asked to move to the bar/lounge no more than 15min after paying their bill to turn the table. They were pissed and I'd be, too. feh......

I have been meaning to come here for a while now. Showed up on a Friday night, you cannot make reservations here and you will not be seated until your whole party is present, and the wait was roughly 45 minutes. That was ok because we got to hang out and enjoy some of the good brews on tap. They have a great bottles list as well. They had Pumking on tap so that was a bonus. We sat outside and I immediately regretted this decision. It was quite dark and they have virtually no light outside so it is hard to see what you are eating! We started out with the crab nachos. They were pretty decent. I went with the Grouper and my wife went with the pizza. I will say this, that pizza was terrible. I would not recommend ordering it. There was like a plant of basil on there. My grouper came with a black bean cake and a crab and corn salad and was very delicious. I liked it a lot. And it was a decent sized portion. The service was good, but prices did seem a little steep to me but for the area I guess that is expected. I will definitely return, especially for the beerlist.

We have always had a great meal here. Great beer selection too. Love sitting at the bar and watching what is happening. If you have a group be sure to go early otherwise it's a long wait.

Where to start? The beer selection is out of this world, and that is just the tap rotation. The bottle selection is about 8 pages of bottled beer from around the world. Any and every style that you can think of. I had Monk's Cafe Flemish Sour. Rare style and very good. That is the type of place this is. It is beer geek heaven. If you are a BCM kind of person, you may want to pre-game before heading in. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. The place was pretty full, so the wait was about 20 minutes; however the atmosphere is cozy and inviting making the wait easy. The food selection is ranging from pub food to steak or chicken pot pie. The food was well prepared and tasty. The wait was about 15 minutes for the food. Meanwhile it is easy to slip in another craft ale. This is hands down the best beer selection in the area, and the price and the food are great complements the beer selection. I will definitely be returning to work my way through the beer menu.

Wow! Huge Beer Selection....and the food is good too. I got the Thai Curry Mussels which had a subtle spicy flavor with bell peppers. The place looked like a great bar to hang out after work. It was a Wed night and they were doing good business. Oh...and I got to sample my beer (draft) before I decided...that's what customer service is.

  • Er B.

Still very solid. I've been back a few times more recently and their menu is still quite good. Mussels are still on the menu and I don't believe the sandwiches have changed too much... I haven't ordered any entrees in any visits. Soups and salads are inventive and have seasonal ingredients. I had the pulled pork sandwich recently and could not believe the generous portion. It helped that the mister and I agreed to go halvsies on my sandwich and his burger. Bonus: the flavor was great. There is no way I could have finished the pork sandwich on my own. Oh, and always get fries with your stuff. MMMMM...the rosemary and salt combination--it knocks 'em out of the park. On a more recent visit, I did shake my head in confusion when I see people sitting at the bar drinking a bottle of wine they BYO. Sans silverware--so they didn't order food. Really? Give those seats to paying drinking customers...have your wine at home or at least sit outside! Also, if you get take out beer from CAH, you get a discount if you buy a mix-and-match 6 pack or if you buy a 4 pack of bombers. Remember that... And another eff uu to the Yelp iPhone app--it tells me when I'm sitting at the bar that I'm too far away to check in. But that has nothing to do with CAH.

Been here once or twice never had an issue. As I'm here now dinner crowd is leaving and when I asked for a table for four and said we'd be getting drinks I was told "we won't seat you." If I weren't here already I'd have left. Currently 3 open tables and nobody waiting. Those seated are only having drinks.

Beer options were great! Food was good but not great for the price. And there was a long wait for the pizza. So we didn't get it. We'll be back though.

Easy to find this place if on Ridge Pike, just down the street from Airport Road. Ample parking in front and behind the restaurant itself. I was a huge fan when I first moved to the area, but i find myself visiting less and less these days. The food menu just doesn't change that much and while I really enjoy the mussels, pork sandwich, etc... I feel like I need to go elsewhere for variety. Also, the fries have changed a bit and not for the better (at least on my last visit). 16 draft lines at CAH. The list is well balanced and they allow you to sample something before trying (a must in the craft beer business), but I find a lot of their pours are 10oz. and it can get expensive when you order up 2-3 and a meal. Almost $40 to sit at the bar for an hour is not quite how I like to spend my hard earned $. You can always find a local offering very reasonably priced, but I don't always want to drink something I can easily obtain from the brewery or brewpub itself at a craft beer bar. They are also very strict when it comes to seating. You can not grab a table if your entire party is not directly in front of them. You could have 3 people ready to order drinks and grub with your 4th a mile down the street and they will not seat you until that 4th person shows up and if it is dinner time, guess what? You will lose your table and have to wait a bit or go elsewhere. I suggest you lie and tell them you are just a party of 3 and get that table. Talk to one of the bartenders when inquiring about a beer (Brian is the man if he is still there), as I find the owners really don't know much about the beer scene, besides what is in high demand so they can be sure to mark things up accordingly. I realize this review is pretty harsh, but I have been to many of the craft beer bars in the region and I need to call it as I see fit. Their food is quite good and the selection is solid. 3 stars is all I can give this place based on the fact that I don't have the desire to go here much these days.

Right off the bat this is my first 5 star rating. The atmosphere is something out of a cozy 1800s carriage house with a fireplace. OK beer later. The food is excellent. I had the fish and chips and the bread battered tenders which were totally awesome. I recommend the BBQ sauce with that. Slightly spicy. The staff is extremely helpful and beer knowledgeable. Speaking of the beer the rotating taps are rare and superb selections. My favorite when I was there was the North Coast Old Rasputin Imperial Stout on Nitro Taps. 8.9% (Available now) Totally amazing. Very recommended for dinner, drinks or both.

Perfect spot for midweek dinner after the outlets. Really enjoyable on a Tuesday night- Bobbi Jo, our server, really knows her beer- love that! So many choices that it was hard to decide. Problem solved with samples, narrowing us down to our ultimate choices.. perfect. On to dinner- the manly man had the farmhouse mussels, while I had the fish and chips! My only tiny recommendation would be to substitute tables and chairs for the picnic tables outside. I think outdoor tables with chairs would really encourage us beer lovers to settle in for dessert!

This place is just amazing. Well worth the wait...and yes, on the weekend, YOU WILL WAIT. The sandwiches and fries...incredible. Probably some of the best fries I ever had. The beer selection, unreal. I always recommend this spot to beer advocates and foodies. They're right on the money in both areas. Also, I love the atmosphere. Very cool spot amongst friends or a date night. Heck, I've went alone and enjoyed myself. Stellar selection. Couldn't say that enough.

Interesting menu items paired with great food. The owners genuinely care about providing patrons with a nice experience and it shows. Of note: Kids are not their target audience. No kid cups, juice, or kids menu. Get a babysitter for this one and make it a date night.

Come for the beer! Do not come for wine or liquor (duh, I know, it's an ALEHOUSE!) because they do NOT serve it. They offer 6-8 beers on tap and have a 6-page bottle list. My husband was a big fan of the Voodoo Cowbell Imperial Oatmeal Milk Stout on nitro, which was not too sweet, very creamy and not at all bitter. Lots to choose from and most folks will find something new worth trying. Ask for a sample if you're not sure. Joint: Doesn't look like much from the road (although does it seem weird that there are so many bars near the airport?) but nicer inside. We went on MLK Day for lunch and there were plenty of tables. Bar had a reasonable crowd but was not crowded. Fireplace was great on a chilly afternoon. Staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about the beers. Flowers on the table looked a little peaked from the heat of the fireplace, but hey, they made an effort. Bathrooms are clean and recently remodeled. Eats: Food selection was limited, which is fine by me. Better than average bar food. Everything was fresh and portions were generous. Soup was sweet potato, but not sweet. Fish and chips: tasted like tempura, light and buttery, fries served with skin on. Grilled chicken sandwich sounded light but quite heavy between mayo, cheese, onion rings and bread. Came with a side of "salad" which was huge and consisted solely of peppery greens (Mizuna maybe?). Worth noting: Live music in the evenings. Call ahead or check their blogspot ( craftalehouse.blogspot.c… ). As stated on their website, they do not accept reservations and will not seat parties of more than 6.No mention of the "not asking for any substitutions" on the menu as reported in some earlier reviews. The menu did ask that you please be considerate of other guests and leave the table when you are finished. It is a small place. I don't think it's an unreasonable request. If you want to linger, hang out at the bar.

Great atmosphere and good service but the food tastes poorly. All the food looks great and I don't think they are using frozen patties but it either has no flavor or tastes strange. Fries are great, burger did not taste like beef at all, calamari had a very strange sauce and also tasted strange. Spring rolls were not like anything I every tasted before, very strange. Interesting menu but nothing I tried was remotely normal. Beer, hundreds of selections, I am sure you can find something you like. They need a new chef.

The beer choices will absolutely blow your mind!! They have a fabulous selection of draft and bottled beers and the servers will make recommendations based on what you like. You can also "sample" the beer before you commit to a larger size. The menu is small, but thoughtfully planned out and the food is quite delicious. Their risotto is fabulous and their chicken fingers are unbelievable. The restaurant is small but turnaround is quick. Not the best place to dine with the kiddies unless they have a more adventurous palate. Service is usually ok. Some (but not all) of the servers seem like pretentious beer snobs, but, I suppose, that happens when you go to "beer college." The host or hostess is usually friendly. The Craft is definitely worth your time and money.

'The Craft' is a gem of a beer mecca along the 422 corridor in Limerick. It's been a hit amongst beer lovers and foodies since the day it opened. There is often a long wait at dinner time and not just on Friday and Saturday nights. After a few frustrating occasions of long waits (without room to sit or even stand near the bar while waiting) I've come to learn that Tuesday nights are normally the least crowded night and I normally sit right down when we go then.

This place doesn't look like your typical brew-pub. When I heard the name, I assumed it would be like a Gordon Biersch, BJ's, or similar restaurant. I was surprised when I pulled up that it's a pretty small place. The bar area is right in front of you when you walk in. There is a dining area with tables, booths, etc. to the right. It's a quaint, comfortable place overall. I was passing through town on business, and wasn't drinking, but the beer menu was hard to resist. There were some great-sounding beers in the list. I got there between lunch and dinner, and I'm glad I did. I was able to order the spinach salad from the lunch menu. It was full of warm bacon chunks and mushrooms, and was just amazing. I ordered the hangar steak from the dinner menu; it was pretty good. Kinda mushy, for some reason, but cooked perfectly and served with collard greens (and more bacon!), mashed plantains, and a sweet molasses sauce. The menu didn't have a lot of selections, but I think that anyone could have found something from the choices they offered. If I'm ever in that area again, I'll definitely go back.

This was a serendipitous stop for me. I work in the area occasionally, but I normally stay at a hotel in Pottstown. This evening I was staying in Limerick, and happened to drive by Craft Ale House. I sat at the bar, since it was a Saturday and fairly crowded. I vastly prefer a small out of the way table, but I'm glad I broke my usual rule. The meal was excellent. One of the best I've had at a pub like this. It reminds me of The Dirty Truth when they first opened. The beer selection is very good, but probably hampered by Pennsylvania's ridiculous laws. I've been in many "gastro-pubs" around the country that have far better, but this one is well selected. The giant brightly lit cooler is a distraction, and another reminder of this state's odd laws. The real winner here is the food. I have never had a better bangers and mash. This one is served with a white sauce (nice change), and a wonderful slaw which provides a perfect acid snap. The three sausages are perfectly different. I had a Celebration, though I was tempted by a nice looking herbal stout. Dessert was an excellent chocolate bread pudding (fresh whipped cream!), and a glass of Three Philosophers. Great place, and I will be back.

Great beer selection & great food. The prices are reasonable but high enough to keep out the riff raff in jean shorts & tank tops. Very nice local place. I go there twice a month and it's always a great experience.

What's a pregnant woman doing at Craft Ale House? ... LOVING EVERY MINUTE! (and earning major spousal brownie points) The Hubs and I ventured out for our anniversary, CAH meeting both the criteria of being on my Yelp to-do list, and not requiring him to upgrade from his favored "jeans and button down" combo. They don't take reservations, and it was a busy Friday night, so he enjoyed a nice fall pint while we waited. CAH, take note: get a nice trivia game or something for the waiting area along with all those brewing books. We started with a cheesy spinach dip that came with toasted garlic rounds. A teensy bit salty, but otherwise amazingly tasty with lots of fresh spinach flavor. Slow roasted pork cheeks for me, and the pulled pork sammie for The Hubs followed. Both cooked perfectly and overflowing with delicious porcine goodness. His sandwich and fries went great with another pint, this time a Troeg's Troegenator. I may have had a (Dr. approved) sip or two. Finally, a piece of chocolate peanut butter pie while the Hubs mixed a mix six to take home from the extensive cooler case. I gave him a few bites... now THAT'S love ;)

I love going to the Craft Ale House. As an avid homebrewer myself, this is the perfect place for trying just about any craft beer I can think of. They have a huge bottle collection and a good sized menu on tap. The food is awesome as well. The burgers are the best I've seen in the area- better than getting a steak at a fine steak house. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about craft beers. I like going to a restaurant that I can ask "What's on tap?" and not have to wait paitently till they get past all the domestics only to learn closest thing they have to Craft Beer is Heinekin or Sam Adams Boston Lager. The bar fills up at lunch time and many of us have become regulars even if "regular" is only once a month. You can strike up a conversation with your bar neighbors and be pleasantly surprised at who you meet. The only downside to the Craft Ale House is that they will not seat you at a table until everyone arrives. So on weekends it makes it real hard when you're getting together with friends and neighbors and you're all meeting at the Ale House. Your table for 8 will have to wait to be seated until that last friend arrives which can be really annoying. so don't bother trying to save a seat for someone who's just meeting you all for drinks. But beyond that the Craft Ale House is perfect.

What a lovely find. We had a meeting in the area- when we walked in we asked to be out within an hour . The staff tried so hard to make it a lovely hour. The food came out fresh, hot and delicious. High marks for Lisa! Thank you We will return

The food is great but the beer selection on tap is better!!! Been here twice and the people at the bar were friendly and wanted to talk. The staff was awesome and each had their favorite beers. I would go back in a heartbeat if I was close to this place. Missed Pliny the elder but it is cool they had it. Keep it up, the place is awesome.

I had a fantastic experience at the craft ale house today! We came in for lunch and the place was a bit quite, not too crowded and we were seated right away. I have to say that I love the setting, the decor and the calm atmosphere!! I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich without the bun (basically grilled chicken meal) and my boyfriend got the pastrami Ruben which looked and tasted amazing. The service we received from our server, Rachel was outstanding! She was very helpful with making beer recommendation, she checked on us and our food few times and what made the service more personalized is that she said our names at the end when she gave us the checks, I thought that was just an excellent service. Craft ale house, I will be back.

Wow. If I could just write a one word review. That would be the word. 'WOW' or 'TASTY'!! We visited for the first time last night with the family to celebrate our anniversary. This was easily, one of the best dining out meals we have had since moving to the area. We started with the Duck & Wild Mushroom Ravioli. The flavor is to be savored! Seriously. Have you ever seen Ratatouille? 'YOU DON'T JUST HORK IT DOWN!' The beer bread and honey butter was pretty good too. That you can hork. We then ordered our entrees. In no particular order: spinach, pear, & acorn squash salad with chicken, roasted pork sandwich, cassoulet, grass-fed hangar steak, two kids grilled cheese sandwiches. If I could some how channel the taste of each dish into this review - you'd walk away so full and fulfilled. So highlights: salad was fresh and the grilled pears with the chicken and other flavors combined in an AMAZING way! The roasted pork sandwich was HUGE, good, and came with great fries!! The cassoulet, oh that cassoulet. I was left feeling a bit sad that I did not order that for myself. I tasted it and it was yet another example of something NOT to hork down. It was divine and such a great dish for a cold night. The pork, duck, & andouille sausage flavors combined in sort of slow and meaningful soirée for your mouth. *mouth waters even now* ! I had the grass-fed hangar beef. It was delicious. The mashed potatoes were the richest taters I have ever had. They had hints of bleu cheese & I thought I wasn't a fan of bleu cheese. But, I am in mashed taters. The spinach and sauce added to the excitement and taste. The grilled cheese sandwiches and fries were more than kid friendly and consumed immediately - so I venture to say the taste was met with approval and I did taste the fries. Those are great fries. Then.. even though I had a homemade red velvet cake at home waiting for us... We had to ask about dessert. BOOM-- they make desserts daily so nothing is on the menu - we asked & Dessert: beignets with cafe au lait dipping sauce. And angels were singing. I think. The beignet wasn't exactly like the ones we have had in the south, but that is NOT to say they were not good. The cute little treats were sprinkled with powdered sugar and that dipping sauce is a gift from Heaven. I hope that is a staple dessert. Because when I go back, it's happening again. I wanted to buy a cup of that sauce to go. I think the waiter thought I was kidding. If you can't tell. It was a great experience, our waiter was fantastic! The other waiters looked a bit bummed - but I chalk it up to a slow night? Do yourself a favor. Go eat here. Sooner rather than later. I heart you Craft Ale House. I heart you.

The Craft Ale House is a great establishment for upscale pub fare with a European influence. With 350+ craft beers bottles and another 16 on draft there is no way to lose in terms of selection. The farmhouse mussels appetizer was quite enjoyable and the flavor combination was spot on with some leeks, bacon and blue cheese. For dinner we dined on a special the "porterhouse" pork chop. The cut was hearty and cooked properly. Plating was very nice and the chop was served with wilted arugula and a sweet potato purée. The second entree was braised short ribs with a Rosemary polenta and blackened green beans. The savory and spicy components complemented each other quite well. For desert it was a chocolate bread pudding which was tasty with some homemade whipped cream. I would consider this a great dinner for someone who takes good food seriously. There is no question I'll be back.

I've been twice with my wife (who is not a beer drinker), and we both loved it both times. The burgers are to die for, with quality ingredients that are well-cooked. The wait staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, explaining that every single ingredient in the kitchen is fresh. The first time we went, we had burgers and the cheese/charcuterie plate. The second time, we had the spinach dip and then split one of their specialty pizzas. Both times we went away incredibly pleased and raving to go back again. We plan on going for our third round next weekend. If you like modern american fare, eat here. Just do it.

One of my favorite places to eat. Geat food from an awesome hamburger to the more expensive entrees. The menu changes all the time but they always have the basic pub staples. Best selection of beer both on-tap and bottled in the area.

What the? Back in the day this was my go to spot. Great Beer and spectacular food. Went the other day and well its all changed. Food nowhere near what it used to be. Chicken tenders are nothing more than a chicken breast fried till achingly dry and cut into strips Mussels although large and plump were bathing in a THIN broth that marginally tasted of bleu cheese and bacon. This is a 50 dollar lunch with three beers. I love(d) this place but until they regain the community feel and cater to what used to be their regulars my business will have to stay firmly in my wallet.

Surprise pizza joint!! I had the blackened chicken pizza with avocado.....yum. Best crust I have had in a while.$13 My friend had the chicken pot pie and who knew that cheese may actually belong in a pot pie $10 I'll be back

Went for late lunch with my son and were very happy. Waitress was very knowledgeable and appropriately attentive. My son said the appetizer chicken tenders were the best he has ever had. A little to much breading for me but still very good with the 3 sauces. He also had the fish and chips. Fish was excellent. I am not a "burger" person but that's what I got and it is worth going back again for. I also want to try the chicken pot pie. Didn't have any beer but the options there are worth a return trip also.

Beer selection great. Bartender is inexperienced, not inviting. Here @ 5:00. No happy hour, no bar food, music barely audible...not much atmosphere. It is a Monday, so it's slow; I understand that. Had to ask for a menu @ the bar. Ordered food....hand cut fries & cheese plate. Fries were burnt & not seasoned. Cheese plate wasn't bad but lacked imagination. Bar is clean & neat & appears to be kept, so all is not lost. Will come for the beer & live music on Friday nights and leave it @ that I guess.

The Craft Ale House was the first "non-chain" restaurant that my husband and I had eaten at since we moved to the area. We went on a Friday for dinner and even though the atmosphere was upper-scale, the staff was welcoming of us bringing our infant son. There was also another family with younger children there, which made us feel better. What I really like about the atmosphere was that it seemed like a place that you could go for a causal dinner or a date night, and that their menu also reflects that: You are not limited to typical bar food. Everything we ate was delicious. The wait staff was very courteous and our server was extremely helpful on recommending some craft beers to my husband (an aspiring craft beer aficionado). The reason that I am giving them four stars is because although it is a major benefit that they have a long array of craft beers that they serve, it can make the drink order seem a little overwhelming to a newcomer.

Been going there for years but really soured after last night. First they have taken the best sandwich they had-the short-rib sandwich-off the menu. I end up ordering the pork sandwich with peppers and provolone. The sandwich itself was terrible-VERY LITTLE MEAT on the sandwich. For 11 bucks the meat should fill the roll-not come up short 2 inches on each side and from the top. The French Fries were soggy and inedible. I told the waiter about it and he seemed indifferent. You would think he would have been apologetic and taken something off the bill or offer something else. NOPE. I do not mind paying for overpriced beer BUT-the food had better be good. I will think twice about going and head to other establishments

Incredible place to come for lunch and/or dinner !! It's a great place to go with your girlfriends for lunch, or with your boyfriend for a yummy dinner. The beers are so fun to try!! They have beer I have never off and it's fun to try new things !!! The food is incredible!!!! They give good portions and you leave totally stuffed. Dinner is more expensive than lunch so I deff recommend coming in for lunch!! This place is perfect for a date .. The lighting is just right and it's exciting to choose beers together and sit in a nice relaxed environment with one another.

Too dark! Had to get my phone out to read the menu. Too loud! Had to sit next to my companion instead of across from him to be heard. Food was fresh and cooked as requested. Service was fast, friendly and experienced.

The Craft Ale is great place to enjoy some of the best craft beers in the world. Most importantly, the food is 5 stars, no kidding. I bring everybody I can to the Craft Ale house and everyone agrees it's awesome. The best Gastro Pub in Philadelphia burbs.

Always an excellent dining experience when I am here - food is outstanding and our waiter, Wayne (whose section we always get seated), was excellent as usual. The only downside was the bartenders. When we arrived on a Monday evening, roughly 8pm, the restaurant was rather empty. There were 3 patrons at the bar and a few couples at the high-tops near the entrance. The dining room was empty, therefore there was no hostess waiting to seat new arrivals which is understandable. We stood at the front entrance near the hostess stand for a good 5 minutes while waiting to be seated since there was a sign there. There was also about 4 bartenders behind the bar with nothing to do. I walked up to the bar and got the attention of a younger red headed girl and asked "Could we get a table, please?". She stared at me for a good 5 seconds before a woman popped up from behind the counter to assist us immediately (who was cleaning something, the only person behind the bar working). This girls attitude stank out loud - she had an "I don't give a f#$@" attitude. Definitely going to go back but that was annoying. The Craft Ale House is better than hiring an employee like that - go to some chain restaurant with that work ethic, sweetheart - whoever you are.

We came here for lunch and got a couple of good sandwiches. Portions were large and prices were average. As many other reviewers have said, the beer selection is very large. A nice place to stop at when you are at the outlet shoppes in Limerick.

Fantastic beer selection. Roast pork was a revelation, the best I've tasted. Burger was fresh and delicious. Fish and chips were decadent and scrumptious. Fries were on point. Dessert selections are few but pack a punch. Don't be afraid to try this wonderful place.

What a great little spot! Went here after shopping at the limerick outlets. It was a Saturday, early evening and it was definitely packed. It was a 45 min wait for a 4 person table, but man was it worth it! We were able to start a tab at the bar while we waited. Once we sat down they brought this amazing beer bread and whipped butter! I got the almond crusted trout with lentils and it was fantastic. All of the food was really delicious and you can't beat the draft and bottle selection. It was a great night! I would definitely stop here again!

HUGE beer selection, and the beers on special are very affordable. I had a $5 beer on draught that cost $18 a bottle. I had the Moroccan Lamb with Black Currant Cous Cous, which was fantastic! The lamb is served on the bone, but is so tender it just fell right off with a light touch of my fork. This was a very welcome change from the traditional American palate. The craft ale house is a great way to experience new beers, or just enjoy the high end beers you already love. It's a little pricey, but I would absolutely recommend this place for a nice evening meal.

2.5 stars because the beer, chicken fingers, French fries and mussels are good. However, the burgers and most of the food items are not good. This place has a VERY long wait to be seated, they do not utilize the space and the food is not worth the wait. If u want beer this place is great. If you want great chicken fingers- come here. The food is generally just not good- I've been here too many times and the food has gotten worse each time. However the chicken fingers are amazing. The chicken fingers are worth a 20- 30 min wait. And you can get lost in the awesome BEER selection. You can NOT get alcohol and wine here. (I've never asked for wine so I may be wrong but I've never seen anyone drink any here). I've been to the place at least 20 times And it is definitely getting worse each time. But it could be great if they got a new chef and utilized the space. I really want to like this place but tonight might have been my last visit. I shared Ahi tuna w noodles and it was covered in pink peppercorns and it is not nice getting multiple of those in your mouth. I can't get the awful peppercorn taste out of my mouth. We had to send back Mac and cheese bc it was fishy and watery. Further, the waitress even agreed that they always take back the ahi Tuna dish w a lot of left over peppercorns. Maybe the manAgement should do something about that- it's gross to have a mouth full of pink peppercorns and it is pointless to have a garnish that is hardly edible. Finally, DON'T GeT a burger here- horrible. They can't cook a burger medium rare and it is chewy. Very disappointed w the food here. Final opinion: come here for beer, chicken fingers, mussels and French fries- NOTHINg ELSE!!! And be ready to wait at least an hour for a seat. And if I was repetitive, it was bc of the beer!!!

If you want a fantastic selection of beer and great ambiance you could give this place another star. The food service is friendly, robotic and slow. We ordered fish and chips and a grilled chicken sandwich. It took 42 minutes to arrive. The fish and chips was good. I could have done with a little less grease. The sandwich sadly was bad - most likely spoiled. My wife sent it back with her appetite basically killed. Fries were average - serviceable and definitely not well done as requested. I think if we ever come back it will be for drinks.

In town for work, and found this gem thanks to yelp. The food was spectacular; some of the best that I've had. They offered a very extensive list of beers, on drought and in bottle that compliments the entrees. Wayne, the server, was on top of his game and made sure that myself and my coworker was content.

I've been here twice and loved it both times. The servers were incredibly helpful and friendly, but non intrusive. The restaurant was busy enough that we had to wait for a table both times, but we were able to sit by the fire so I didn't mind. The beer selections on tap or in the fridges were a great mix of regions and flavors. And the food. The food was amazing. The first time, we got too much food. We ate the cheese plate (which had a variety of good but different cheeses that change regularly), and although it was tasty enough that neither of us regretted our choices, we couldn't finish our burgers. I judge basically any ale house/pub/brewery by their burgers, and by that measurement, Craft passes with flying colors. I'll be honest, recently I'd been bored with burgers. They were my default order when there wasn't anything else that jumped out to me at a restaurant, but I had so many they ended up mostly tasting bland and a little dry. Craft Ale House's were a revelation and reminded me why I love burgers in the first place. The second time we just had their artichoke dip and split one of their pizzas. The pizza itself was delicious both that night, and when we heated it up for lunch the next day. I didn't love it quite as much as the burgers, but it was still a delicious dinner, so I'm not going to complain. In fact the only complaint I might have is that the salads weren't anything special (I'll probably forget about being healthy and opt for the fries next time). I was incredibly glad to discover Craft Ale House and I look forward to going back.

Easily one my favorite beer destinations ! I find myself becoming more and more narrow minded when it comes to the type of beers that I enjoy. Without fail, one of the employees there, usually Bobby Jo or Savannah, will broaden my horizons a bit, and turn me on to something that I have yet to try. I find the service to be exceptional and friendly with a strong emphasis on the detail it takes to not only serving craft beer the correct way, but to an ALWAYS delightful dining experience. I've seen the servers and bartenders help navigate customers who are a bit bewildered by the wide variety of beer, down the proper avenue towards something they may enjoy and then pair a delicious meal with said beer. It's a rather small place, so your best bet is to go just before the crowd arrives around the 5 PM hour on weekends.

I absolutely love Craft Ale house! Everyone I know loves this place, and I wanted to let everyone know who reads reviews , that they should not hesitate to come here! The service is very friendly and efficient. The beer selection out of this world, and the food is superb! It's small and quaint, very nice atmosphere, acoustic music on the weekends, and worth your wait for a table. Nice fireplace to sit by while you wait as well:) Great job Craft Ale house! P.S. Best burgers and fries ever, as well as main dish options, that change all the time! Fresh, made to order food. Delicious!

As gastropubs go, Craft Ale House is a notable destination in the Philly area, but it has it's strong and weak points. Strong: ~Truly epic beers selection, one of the best in the Philly area, with several 100's to choose from by the bottle/can (as of today, 394!), and 16 on tap, all of which are worth drinking and many being beers I've never heard of. On tap now, one of my all-time favorites: New Holland (MI) Dragon's Milk Bourbon barrel-aged stout (we also got a 10% six-pack discount on $6.50/bottle to take home). In general, the servers seem knowledgeable about beer (not that I'm a particularly good judge, being more of a wine geek). But I did find it odd that the above beer seemed to be miss-described on the tap list (confused with the oak barrel version, which I'm pretty sure is different and which our server was able to confirm when we asked him to inquire). ~Excellent Moules-Frites...OK, they don't call them that, but definitely get the "SPICY MONK" steamed mussels (Belgian dark ale, andouille sausage, caramelized onions, pimento cheese) and a side of rosemary garlic hand-cut fries...it isn't Brugge, but pretty darn good for Limerick PA. My only suggestion would be to also do a more classic Moules-Frites, with less inventive ingredients (I'm less enamored of the other versions on the menu). Sometimes sticking with a classic is best. Weak: ~The food is decent, and as noted above the mussels/fries are excellent. But whenever I order anything else off the menu, I always tend to feel a bit let down. Not that the food isn't tasty, but it alwasy sounds so much better than it actually turns out to be. Case in point: the special of shrimp étouffée we had for lunch yesterday, which came out decidedly lukewarm and with no discernible cajun spices at all...meh. My steak sandwich (photo) was good, but nothing that I'd drive out of the way for. The food just doesn't live up to the amazing beer selection. If they could just kick the food up a couple more notches, this would be a truly great destination. ETC: A pleasant, cozy environment, with a nice long bar, wood tables, and a small lounge with couches. Sometime they have live music, but I've never been there for that. Apparently it can get very crowded, with a wait to get seated, but we always go early or late. Free Wi-Fi. Easy parking in the lot out front, no tables for more than 6 people, no reservations, and closed Sundays. Conclusion: Worth driving to if you are a real beer geek, but just stick with the Moules-Frites on the menu. If you are a local, of course you are going to TOTALLY LOVE Craft Ale House, because there isn't much else of this caliber in the area. 4 stars on the back of an epic beer selection, good service, nice environment, and decent food. But if they could get in some Heady Topper, I'd raise it to 5 stars. Cilantro!

Went in on a Saturday night, a bit after 8. Had a 15 minute wait, not too bad. The bar is kinda bland, as is the decor. There's booth seating mainly. We got seated by the refrigerators in a corner/end booth table, kinda facing the folks next to us... Little bit awkward. It was also kind of chilly, so we kept our jackets on. The wife doesn't drink beer, and we didn't know it was a BYO for wine. It was too late to run and grab a bottle of vino, so she had soda. That was a downer, but our fault for not finding out before going. We each had the pub burger. They were OK-- nothing earth shattering, but good. Don't think I'd go back for dinner as prices were pretty high for the specialty items on the menu, considering the atmosphere was dull. I might stop snd have a quick beer with a beer drinking friend, though. Nice selection of beers you've never heard of, as well a decent tap selection.

This is, by any measure, my favorite place to go for great beer. The food is outstanding as well. A true gem! Gary and his wife are great hosts and do a great job making you feel at home in this place. I believe they support mostly local food and brew, but don't be deceived; local brew and food, combined with their attention to detail and good taste makes this place a must-visit. Craft Ale House is located in Limerick, PA right on Ridge Pike. In fact, I think that if you go another 3 miles north from there (west?) you'll reach the end of Ridge pike... They rotate their taps regularly, every time with a different beer. There's an outstanding variety of beers to choose from for take-out as well as on-tap. For my wife and I, sitting at the bar is the way to go if you want to meet people and get a feel for the places we visit. At the Craft Ale House that is THE place to be. Ten minutes there and you will feel like you are part of a great bunch of people. Most of them either know their beer and menu or have heard about them. My last visit there was a few weeks ago when my wife had a lot in her agenda and I did not. I spent the afternoon making my trek through Lansdale, Skipack and Limerick with the Craft Ale House the highlight of my crawl. Conscious of the fact that I was driving I gave myself about 2 hours to sample a few brews at the CAH. During my stay I heard about 3 or 4 orders going out for the a black bean soup and decided to try it... Don't let my dad know for he makes a great black bean soup... but the one at the CAH blew me away! The bartenders (and I bet the waiters and waitresses as well) really knew their beer. As I was trying to decide which beer to drink next the bartender asked me about my tastes, and based on those she pulled out some samples for me pointing at one sample in particular which I left for last. She read me perfectly. The last sample was indeed the one I liked the most. Impressed by her knowledge of beers I asked her about it. She told me that everyone in the restaurant is trained regularly on the beers being served. The only drawback? It is a drive. If you are coming from Philly or even the burbs, keep in mind that there will be a lot of driving involved. Drink responsibly! craftalehouse.com

We enjoyed lunch here post outlet shopping, courtesy of a "craft beer" search via Yelp. The bottled beer list is impressive, including 4 Russian River selections (though, none a hophead would be interested in: the Belgian, brown, golden, and I forget the fourth). The Spinach Dip appetizer was good, but the toast points way too crunchy (so hard most were left uneaten). It would have been much better served w/the same grilled bread that accompanied the mussels. My husband's steak sandwich had the same issue. I enjoyed the Funky Farmhouse mussels and our companions both enjoyed the Baked Potato Soup. This is a nice place, but the atmosphere is a little stuffy for our liking. I'd rather eat lunch the same distance in the other direction at the Railroad St Bar and Grille (w/a similar beer selection). Service was fine, though beer delivery was a bit slow. I'd prefer eating at the bar here, as opposed to a table.

So we were wrong about it going up to 5 stars...We've been back a few more times and the food just never gets better. It's so close to being really good, but it never makes it, falling flat. However, they deserve 5 stars for the beer selection. It's really the best place near us to buy craft beer.

I love craft beer and this place is THE place to go if you are into trying all different kinds. As other reviewers have noted they do have a few policies. The place is small, so they don't do reservations and they won't seat more than 6 people. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Our waitress helped my husband choose from the booklet (seriously, it is about 10 pages printed in small print front and back) something adventurous yet tasty. The food in my opinion was just ok. Both my mom and my husband got the pork sandwich. It didn't really have much flavor. Neither did the fish and chips. So I can't say the food is bad, just bland. I'm interested in trying their seasonal entrees. It just wasn't an entree kind of night for us. We will definitely be back. Next time without my 10 month old. It is noisy enough for you to have a baby there who is fussy and not bother other people. Their high chairs suck though. The safety strap is pointless as it is secured by velcro. The bathroom is a one-seater. I didn't use it, but I doubt that there would be enough room for a changing table in there.

Went to check out this place just after its 1 month anniversary. It is a small, cozy place who's ambiance reminds me a bit of the drafting room in Exton. The bar was full on this Saturday afternoon while the tables were about 1/2 full. The obvious draw is the beer, but the food is not bad as illustrated by the Fire Roasted Tomato Soup, Burger and Braised Short Rib Sandwich we ordered. The burger had a nice smoky crust on it but was served a little beyond the "medium" we had ordered. The hand cut fries and short rib sandwich was awesome. I noticed people at the bar ordering buckets of fries. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable, but the kitchen seemed a bit slow. They let you sample any of the beer you want, which was great help in narrowing down my choices from their superb list. Also took advantage of their 20% discount on carry out 6 pack. They are closed on Sundays but I hope they open for brunch soon...we could use a place like the Drafting Room or Classic Diner in the area. Normally would have given 4 - 4.5 stars, but gave them 5 for bringing good beer and food to a neighborhood where it is lacking.

Inviting and cozy. I went to long without visiting this place. The food is high quality. I had the roast pork sandwich. I have to say it was probably to best roast pork sandwich I have ever had. On another visit, I had the short rib sandwich-also very good. The waitstaff is very friendly and helpful. I am not a beer drinker, but is you are, this is the place for you. One of the best if not best restaurant in the area.

My birthday was on Saturday, and as is typical for my January 8th birthday, winter weather interfered with my original plans for the day. Needing to stay local, my boyfriend and I searched Yelp for a lunch spot and agreed that we wanted to try Craft Ale House. While I don't agree with the reviewer who said it looks like an 1800s carriage house - we found the setting much more modern - Craft Ale House was a lovely spot for a snowy afternoon. The gas fireplace was a particularly nice touch. One of my favorite details was the books they had on the coffee table by the fireplace; we really enjoyed reading from Pennsylvania Breweries while we waited for our food. The menu here is somewhat limited, but it seems like what they do, they do well. According to our server, they make everything themselves with the exception of the rolls and the (yummy, spicy) mustard. My burger was perfectly cooked, juicy, and flavorful - the best burger I've had in quite some time. My boyfriend had the short rib sandwich, which was also tasty. The fries were terrific with vinegar and a bit more salt. We were both stuffed and unable to finish all of our fries. The beer list was terrific. The beer menu provides descriptions for each and that they're willing to give samples; I like being adventurous with beers and trying new ones, but it's a bummer when you get stuck with a pint you hate. Our server was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I really appreciated that she went back to the kitchen to find out the brand of the mustard for me; she brought the name back written down on a slip of paper. Really, our experience here was quite positive, and I hope we'll go back sometime, even if it is a little out of the way. Saturday afternoon seemed like a great time to visit; they had plenty of space free so that we could linger over our beers and enjoy our meals.

This is definitely what Limerick needs, a nice, casual pub. It's not overbearing, but is a bit on the trendier side. It helps that they have an extensive list of beers to choose from, making it a place where everyone can be happy. Or make it so that people have a hard time deciding. The food is decent. I wouldn't say that it's over the top, nor would I label it as "SPF" aka, standard pub fare, which is just my way of saying blase pub food that I could get at any chain restaurant. They seem like they actually put effort into making it a notch above SPF. It's always hopping, so I would say either go earlier to get a seat and then keep your waitress happy with a large tip so she doesn't get impatient and try to kick you out, or go later so that you don't feel as if you're rushed. I would say that this place definitely appeals to the more upper echelon of the LimerickRoyerstuckyCollegeville crowd.

Good place for craft beer and they have different beers on tap each week. The food here is good as well. One of the best places to go in the Limerick area.

We flew into Heritage Field Airport just to eat here upon another pilot's recommendation. Although the menu was limited for a picky eater such as myself, we did not fly away disappointed. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals; the pork belly and the roast pork sandwich come highly recommended. A pleasant surprise was the live Irish band playing in the front. We will definably be back again.

This place has figured out that you don't have to overextend yourself. They know they have a kickass beer selection and a few good food dishes (to fill the time between beers). They do both super well. Their beer menu (and selection for rotating taps) is bloody impressive. The prices are respectable too for so many rare brews. As for the food, nothing jawdropping, but it's consistently good (unlike Sly Fox). Would definitely recommend. Come early on weekends, we've been confronted with large waits recently (I guess popularity is on the rise).

Gotta say I was truly disappointed with our trip to Craft Ale House. Upon reading all of the glowing reviews on Yelp I figured we couldn't go wrong. We had my best friend and his girlfriend up from Philly and wanted to hit up a new place for some great food and drinks. So here we go... Walked in around 7 on a Friday night to find the place packed to the brim, which I typically take as a good sign. We also were expecting this based on reviews. We found a couple bar stools, ordered some great beers, and had fun catching up during the 45 minute wait. Which was exactly the wait the hostess had told us when we arrived. Upon being seated our waitress took a order for another round of drinks. Our waitress was never rude, though seemed to be rushed and put out whenever we ordered something. Like I said, the place was packed, so I can understand her being rushed. On to the food. As we ordered some apps and our dinners we were all very hungry. When the food came out it looked great and we dug in. Much quietness fell over the table as we ate. Much to my dismay the food was not going over well. Here is the rundown of our grub: Apps: Buttermilk Chicken Tenders-looked great, tasted like a spoonful of salt. They were home made chunks of white meat chicken battered a buttermilk coating. Great concept, too much salt. If we were not all so hungry we would not have eaten them. Parmesan Fries-fresh cut fries that tasted as though they were fried in a deep fryer of salt. After the salt tenders, these we did not eat. Dinners: Burgers: Hand crafted, pretty decent, but not fantastic burgers. They also came with parmesan fries. I was able to eat my burger, my buddy was unable to get it down. Pirogies: My wife ordered these as her dinner, though they are an app. She ate them and found them without taste and greasy. Scallops: My buddy's girlfriend, who is super nice, ordered the scallops dinner. They looked pretty good and had about eight decent sized scallops. She ate all but one scallop, so she may have found the best dinner of the night. Craft Ale does have extensive options for beers on tap, with a great selection of seasonal beers. They also have a large and meticulously organized selection of bottled beers. I would absolutely stop in Craft Ale all the time to pick up beer if I live nearby.

Living in New York City, it is easy for me to find restaurants that are made with love, that have both quality and quantity. In the suburbs of PA? Not so much. I had always been a fan of Craft Ale House with they first opened, though they only served micro brews then. Upon hearing that they started serving lunch and dinner a while back, I had to go check it out. Could this be my future go-to restaurant when I am in the area? Quite possibly so... Buttermilk Tenders This was the star of the night. Too modest to call itself tenders, this was more like hardy fried chicken and undoubtedly one of the best of I have ever eaten. The breading was thick crunchy, spicy and bursting with flavor. The chicken was moist and juicy- so much so that some jumped out at me. Though the sauce was delicious, it was almost not necessary. With 7 or 8 pieces per order, this was big enough for 2 people. The fries? Best ones in PA. Soft with tough and resistant outer skin. A sprinkling of kosher salt and it was the perfect bar snack. F.Y.I If you can't decide on a beer, they are happy to give you little shot sized tastings. After 4 or 5 shot tasting, they only charge $1.00 for each additional taste. A great (and economical) way for trying different types of beer. Check out my full review and pictures on my blog! :)

We have frequented CAH since they opened a little over a year ago. CAH is a refreshing change to the multitude of chain restaurants that have recently infiltrated our area. If you are looking to enjoy unique food and a superb beer list than CAH is the place to go. There is always different beers on tap, they even change as you're there dining and kegs get kicked. The menu has the standard staples of burgers and muscles but they also add seasonal favorites as well. I have not had a meal there that didn't satisfy. The only downfall to CAH is seating. If you go Thursday -Saturday expect to wait. But be sure to have a drink at the bar while you do so as dinner is well worth it!

Excellent beer selection and solid food. I was impressed by some of the seasonal Belgian brews they had on tap. My shortrib entree was good, definitely not your typical barfood. The service was friendly and attentive.

If you want to try good beer and not the standard macrobrew swill, this is the place to go. The beers are constantly changing, you hardly see the same thing two days in a row. There is also a great bottle selection, and a discount if you mix a six pack to go. The food is always good, the burger is in one of my top three (as are the fries). They have a great head chef here who really knows his stuff. The only problem with Craft is seating. If you hit a busy time you are going to wait for a table (sometimes up to an hour). The wait is worth it, and while you wait for a table you can always go up the the bar and start trying out beers.

Wow! The beer coolers rival a boutique beer store with such an extensive selection that it takes 7 pages to list them all. Add to that an impressive variety on tap and a creative menu with fresh ingredients, and you have the perfect pub. There was a 20 minute wait at 6:00 on a Saturday... just enough time for a drink at the bar and to get a feel for how great this place is. Cozy, friendly, just right all around. If only they were closer to Philly.

Beer pubs are not usually geared toward tv-hating, wine-swilling vegans, I realize. Someone on Facebook mentioned this place in a discussion of beer, I think, so I made a mental note to drive out to Limerick sometime when we had a hankering for good beer. It's about a half hour from Reading but not hard to find. The first thing we noticed was good music: Talking Heads, Love & Rockets, Erasure, Coldplay... NOT hippie music. And there is only one tv over the bar. I know they have live music on weekends, when I hear it gets extremely crowded. Why can't Reading have more places like this? The closest we have is Canal St and Union Jack's. On a Thursday night, the parking lot was full, so we parked at the hardware store behind it. A former deli in an unassuming building, Craft Ale House has a modern warm decor in black and wood, candles on the tables, and a fireplace area scattered with beer books. CAH gets the balance right: elegant without being snobby, comfortable without being divey. I would suggest turning down the lights a bit, but that is about my only complaint. The crowd was mostly GenX. Draft beers have an incredible changing selection and are priced from $4.50 to $5.50 except for a few. The owner clearly loves hops and Belgian styles, which are well represented. We worried that we would not be able to get much to eat and so sat in the bar. But the mushroom soup is a wonderful creamy puree with no cream or butter, the apple endive fennel salad was excellent, and their fries are dusted with rosemary and garlic. Vegetarians can enjoy a sweet potato ravioli and a few other things. Omnivores: the burgers must be good, because almost everyone ordered one. The service was professional, warm, and attentive, both from our server and the bartender (maybe the owner?), who advised us on beers when we shopped at the back for a mixed 6-pack to take home. If you buy 6, there is a 20% discount. There are many wine-sized bottles of beer too, so we will grab some of those next time.

Terrific beer selection and half my family think the farmhouse mussels are the best around. Gets REALLY crowded many evenings, especially weekends, but with the beverage selection the long wait is almost enjoyable.

Farmhouse mussels are AMAZING. Beer selection is awesome as well. I did find the owners to be less than friendly on more than one ocassion, but the wait staff and awesome food make up for it! Definitely check this place out!

I've been frequently visiting this place ever since it opened and I love it. Always a great selection of beer on tap, and a large selection of takeout beer, usually with some new bottles that I've never had before. Gary and Melissa are awesome owners. Great team of bartenders there. Nice decor. Wish I lived at this place.

Pretty good! The atmosphere is really cool, they even had a band playing when we went for dinner, which was awesome. The food wasn't bad, and the staff was prompt and helpful. I only had water, but my husband said the beer was fantastic.

Overall, a pretty good meal and experience at CAH. We found it and tried it based on a zip code search here on Yelp. Service: Very nice; thorough and pleasant. Attentive server with a cheerful demeanor. Atmosphere: Also good. Adequate & appropriate lighting, nice alternative music [Psych Furs; English Beat] which wasn't intrusive. Food: Good. She had Buttermilk Tenders [listed as an appetizer, but ordered as a meal]; I had Fish & Chips. The Buttermilk Tenders, which I tried, were a bit dry on the inside. The Fish & Chips were heavy on the chips, light on the fish [3 small filets]. On the plus side, the server offered malt vinegar, which is the perfect complement to this meal. The fries were delicious. The cod filets were done very nicely; crispy and not heavy at all. I just wish there were more of them. Nitpick: A $0.50 charge added to the bill when my wife asked for extra dipping sauce for her Buttermilk Tenders. That, and the aforementioned smallish portion of Fish in the Fish & Chips entree. Drink: I had a very tasty IPA microbrew. $5 for a pint. Not bad. Overall: Recommended. We will certainly be back, since I think that there are other entrees, and other microbrews, worth checking out.

Another wonderful adventure had two ipa's and my wife had woo moo chocolate stout she said yum. The cheese plate great and our main meal great. But the wait was very long for a table . Several tables with no guest seated and the management was blaming the kitchen causing the long wait . An poor excuse to give to guests and several parties walked out. Beside that hiccup, the food was great and as always i be back in a few weeks.

First visit to the Craft Ale House was brought on because I wanted to get my hands on a bottle of Wookie Jack. We drove about an hour to get there just after they opened on a saturday afternoon. Great bottle collection, and a ton of 22s. Also some very hard to get craft beers on tap. Very satisfied with that. The menu looked great and I ordered the braised beef rib sandwich. It was huge and delicious, and at around 10 bucks it was a steal. It also came with some great fresh cut fries if I remember correctly. The girl tending bar was somewhat attentive and seemed to be wrapped up with some of her friends sitting at the end of the bar. When I had some questions about certain beers she seemed short and annoyed by my inquiries. We will definitly be returning here, hoping their will be another bar tender behind the bar.

This would have been 5 stars except the first 2 beers my husband picked, they were out of. But the waitress was very nice about giving him samples of other beers to try before he ordered a whole pint. But...5 stars for the food and I have 3 words for you - SHORT RIB SANDWICH. Amazing!

Sampled many beers last week, when I went in for the first time. The manager, Gary, and my server Steven were quite helpful and eager to make my experience the best ever for a local pub. I went back yesterday and loaded my bierwagen, I mean pickup truck, with lots of different bottled brews for a party that I threw. I would have filled my growlers with their draft brews, but they are not set up to do that yet. I would have preferred to have done that, but the bottled selections did offer more of a choice for our guests. (Made points with the in-laws, that's for sure.) A partial list, but some of my favs that I tried were: WEYERBACHER DELTA FOUNDERS BACKWOODS BASTARD (complex and bourbonesque) AVERY ALE TO THE CHIEF (incredible) BRECKENRIDGE AVALANCHE ALE TROEGS MAD ELF VICTORY OLD HORIZONTAL BARLEYWINE Even though the curry inspired liquid my perfectly tender mussles were steamed in had some bitterness, I gave the place five stars because they are obviously still working out a few details, and were quite responsive when I pointed this out. Obviously the main reason one would visit here is the beer, but they really want to make the food special so that they develop a loyal clientele. (Have since tried the chicken pot pie and the steak; great). Check out their blog at: craftalehouse.blogspot.c… It is in Limerick, right next to the Ace Hardware. (It was formerly a deli and opened around the first of the New Year.)

There are a few reasons I have four stars instead of 5. Although the food is some of the best bar food I have EVER had, the bar is too crowded and it is a long wait. The beer selection is great however the draft list is too local and there is a lot to be desired. Only 4 out of 14? taps I wanted to try or liked. Not to sell them short, the bottle selection is the best from here to Norristown. (Capone's) I just prefer beer on draft. Added points for having HOPSLAM!

If you want a Miller Light, Bud Light, or some other cheap, no tasting, crap beer then don't waste your time here. If you are looking for a specific craft beer or something new to try as well as have an amazing meal, then go to Craft Ale House. Their beers on tap is constant changing with new beers and don't even get me started on hundreds of bottles they have. I have never been to a restaurant whose entire staff knows as much about craft beer as this one does. Anytime I have a question they have an answer or a suggestion. The menu is great and it seems they are always having different tastings with different beers. The best part is: you can get your craft beers to go (buy 6 regular bottles or 4 of the big boys and get a discount).

Incredible selection of beer; draft and bottle, great atmosphere and good food. The Harissa chili sauced buttermilk chicken tenders and the garlic-rosemary fries are two favorites I can recommend. Hard to believe this cozy little place with fireplace and old church pew seats was once the Limerick Deli!

I love this place. I really like west coast beers and they always have what I am in the mood for. Their food is spectacular. The mussels, burgers...pretty much everything is good. Very knowledgable bartenders as well. I really appreciate having a little gem like this outside the city. Not to mention this spot is perfect for a 19th hole.

After a 45 min wait for a table on Saturday night, we were told that they were out of french fries, perogies, fish and chips and pulled pork! An already small menu managed to get worse. A side salad then accompanied my burger, if you want to call it that, was a few pieces of lettuce! Oh ya, and thats all that was on my burger,1 piece of lettuce. No tomatoes, no onions, nothing! --and it was only 7:00pm, still had a line of people waiting. The owner (i assume was him) was walking around and chatting with friends at the bar, rather than running to the grocery store to buy POTATOES AND TOMATOES! Well, at least the beer was good.

Great place that opened up within the past few years near where I grew up. The explosion of craft brew bars around Philly is amazing and this is a great example. A fantastic selection of bottle beers and always something interesting to try on tap. Good atmosphere and the food is tasty. Not quite 5 stars but pretty damn close.

Well, we've found this a convenient spot to grab a bite during the weekdays as some have mentioned it's small. On subsequent visits I've learned a thing or two. The burgers are inconsistant so if you don't want pink order well done. I even sent one back and the same burger still came out fairly pink, the wait staff is not all that, up and down service. Though it's not horrible. Now the good stuff, order the Scallops entre' it is the cats meow and the best thing on the menu. I still believe they are built on a salt mine, all other dishes are ruined by over salting. It's about the food people! The scallops seem to avoid the added salt for some reason and I have to laugh when peeps around us are ording anything else. They just don't know.

This place is great - a gastropub in Limerick - who would have thought it was possible! Seriously though, the food has always been just as good as the beer. They stay true to who/what they are which is what makes it worth the wait (and there always is one). It is a nice casual place, live music, only good for well-behaved kids over 6 or 7 who are adventurous eaters (no kids menu but my 7 year old has been eating here for a few years because he is beyond adventurous). I wouldn't pay attention to some of the less than positive reviews, I think there may be some local feud going on.

  • Mike T.

I would give the Craft Ale House 5 stars for their fantastic variety of beer selections (with a 4-5 page listing of them all on your table), 3 stars for their food due to the saltiness of most of the dishes., and 4 stars for atmosphere/background music/nice waitstaff. If your into beer like I am into food, then you will love this place. There are soo many beers on their selection list that someone with great beer knowledge would have assisted me alot in choosing something other than my Brooklyn Lager choice. We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday and we got there just before it got crowded. We were a party of 6, and they accomodated by putting 2 tables together. It is definitely a location for couples up to a 4 some in the main dining area, but if you plan on going with 6 or more be prepared to wait for enough space. But I would suggest, if going on a Friday/Saturday night that you be prepared to have a couple of beers at the bar and relax. We had a couple of appetizers: the tator tots and the spinach dip. The tator tots were small/dainty and about 8-10 of them. The spinach dip was tasty but soo salty. The cheeseburger was good; a little greasy but I would rather have it a little greasy then dry. It was a bit salty as well, but not as salty as the spinach dip. The hand made fries were cooked perfectly, but the salt was heavy handed on them as well. The fish and chips was like another yelper stated: heavy on the fries and light on the fish. There were 5 smaller sized pieces of fish. I understand the concept: it is a craft ale house and the highlight of the evening is the beer. For the beer, they definitely get 5 stars. But I have to take away1 star for the food if there was less salt.

Isn't it weird that all these reviews are very lengthy and very well written? None of them are negative which is weird because people generally post negative reviews on these sites. Regardless, we ate there and the food wasn't very good at all. The beer selection was great however. Oh, and it is ridiculously expensive. We won't be back.

Just had dinner there with the ball and chain. Wanted food and needed it now. Didn't feel like driving all over the place. Luckily, I remembered this place recently opened and was right down the street. Well, I'm glad we stopped in. The decor is really nice. They have a fireplace with a sofa and chairs which looked comfy. Was a little dark inside, but it fit this place perfectly. They have a pretty big selection of beers. About 15 on tap IIRC, and then another 3 sheets (no pun intended) of beers you can buy by the bottle. Another plus, is you can create your own 6 pack and get a 20% discount on the beers you choose. SCORE!! To top this all off, it's the first place in the area I live in that serves my favorite beer....Arrogant Bastard Ale by the Stone Brewing Co. So right off the bat after seeing that, I'm happy. I order a Stone Ruination IPA and set to ordering dinner. Not a whole lot of people there. About 8 or so dining, and another dozen at the bar. Which is fine by me. Was able to have a conversation (not that I pay attention, but I fein interest) and not have to shout over people. We ordered the Mac & Cheese, Chicken Pot pie with salad, a Pub Burger w/fries and for dessert chocolate bread pudding. The mac & cheese was great. At $8 they could've given a little more, but honestly it was so good I didn't care. Would probably pass on this the next time we go but it was really good. She devoured her salad, arugula with what seemed to be a raspberry vinagrette, but I could be wrong, and the poor pot pie was decimated in about 10min. So I think she liked it. My burger was cooked exactly how I asked. Medium. I'm always surprised when I ask for medium and get a med. well to well done burger. This was nice, thick and juicy which is the way burgers were intended to be. The fries had a garlic/rosemary seasoning on em which was also excellent. Our dessert, the bread pudding, was also good however not the best part of the meal. All in all, it was a great dinner and a great experience. Our server was very attentive, prompt and helpful on the meal and beer suggestions. It's pretty close to the Outlets so if you stop by there definitely make sure you stop in here for a bite. Worth every penny (which BTW our bill was only $38, not bad at all for the amount of food we got!!!) I can already feel my wallet getting lighter since I know I'll be back many, many, many, many times!!

Looks are deceiving. It doesn't look like much from the outside. It's located right next to a hardware store. I've been there three times. Once for beer, and the other two times just for beer and food. The beer selection is excellent and the food is just fantastic. We're gonna bring our friends to have a taste; I hope the quality is consistent since sometimes it could be really packed. Oh, they have live music often.

My husband and I have been frequent diners at Craft Ale House since their opening. Having worked in Philadelphia for 10 years I was always disappointed with the low number (and quality) of restaurants in the area. We could not have been more delighted to have a new restaurant of this caliber so close to home! The menu can satisfy whatever you're looking for, whether it be bar fare, light fare or fine dining. From the burger to the skate wing and everything in between quality, freshness and originality are a part of every item they serve. And the beer selection.....what can I say, it's always changing, and I look forward to trying everything, although I know it would be impossible. The staff is friendly, courteous and well versed in beer. I ask for pairings when I order my food and I have never been disappointed with their suggestions. We have referred numerous people to Craft Ale and they have all become frequent patrons. We enjoy making a "night of it" at Craft Ale House, enjoying good food, great beer and music. They have open mic on Tuesdays and other live music on the weekends. All of this and a great meal that doesn't break the bank!

This is not the kind of restaurant we'd expect in Limerick, PA -- and it's a pleasant surprise! The restaurant features an amazing selection of bottled and draft beer at relatively reasonable prices, given the lack of competition in Suburban Philly! The food was outstanding -- I had the herbed ravioli, undoubtedly handmade, and really delicious. Others in my group ordered the special sirloin of the night, a hamburger, and a pulled pork sandwich. Everyone loved it -- although the steak eater thought the price ($25) was entirely too high. The rest of us ($8-12 range) were very happy! Service was great... highly recommend!

Seems to be mismanaged severely. Having been here 3 times now, the RUDE hostess/owner/manager has been consistently bad. However, since she is the owner there is no way to complain about her to anyone. The idea is good, great beer selection, however the execution is poor. The other night, with a group of 7 we were told that even though there were 2 tables next to each other and open, they would not seat us. At this point we had been waiting an hour and half. We watched as 12 tables were seated with people who arrived after us. Then, when we were seated, after a 2 hour wait, we were scolded by the waitress, that we were being rude to the hostess. If we weren't starving we would have left. We were then told that the kitchen was backed up because they were understaffed. This was a special beer event, meant to bring in extra business, and they didn't staff enough. Every time we go here, there is a problem. save your time and money, go somewhere else.
