I am never disappointed when I eat at Hershey Family Restaurant. The service is fast and friendly, and the waiter/waitress will do substitutes on your food. I had their haddock the other night and it was delicious. Their soups are great as well. I like the idea that they offer food discount cards and they also offer discounts for our troops, senior citizens, and they subtract $10 from your meal, when it's your birthday. I have seen a few one star ratings on here, and I don't understand what the complaints are really about. I am very particular about where I go and what kind of food I eat, so don't always look at the bad feedback; just go for yourself and I guarantee, you will have a wonderful dining experience awaiting you, right now! It's a local restaurant, convenient for people staying in hotels, so it's not going to be a 5 star restaurant. The portions are smaller, which is how food should be served, and the prices reflect the food size, so it's affordable. If you stay at Country Inn and Suites you get 10% off, but they don't tell you, you have to ask. We had dinner and our entrees were a hot turkey sandwich, which was real turkey and was liked. Chicken tenders for the kids which were nice and thin and they enjoyed. The chicken cordon bleu had a weird spicy sauce which wasn't good for the belly. Overall, average food, mediocre service.

This is one of those places that if you know what your gonna get and your ok with it - it gets 4 stars - but you have to like boxed pre pre pared foods and don't care about food quality - kind like a Denny's minus a point. So if you are health conscious - and want a high quality breakfast this place is not for you - if you dig Waffle House then come on in - you'll love it. ( seriously avoid anything with the dry biscuits as an ingredient)

Everything we are was good. Even better than typical diner food in the greater Harrisburg area.

Staying at La Quinta Inn, this place is at the parking lot and I had woke up to an early hungry morning. So, because of the convenience I thought i would just give it a try. I can say that the moment I walked in, the host was very friendly and promptly guided us to our seat. The place was clean and very well decorated. I ordered a phillycheese steak wrap which comes with fries but I decided to substitute that for a cup of corn chicken noodle soup. I thought, hey, it's a family road restaurant, that soup has to be grandma style delicious and that PHILLYSTEAK phenomenal, after all, this close area is famous for it. My friend ordered an omelet with home fries, toast, coffee and the same soup. Well we were extremely disappointed with the food as it all tasted frozen wholesale store bought and flavorless. My wrap tasted like Steak-Um meat and the soup was without a doubt Campbell's chicken noodle with corn and spice added. The coffee was watery and weak and the home fries were from a frozen bag. When you are very hungry you just try to eat some of it and keep on going but here we were struggling to finish it all. I'm not sure if your taste buds are as sensitive as mine but if you can hold on and drive a few blocks down, do yourself a favor a look for a better food experience and taste. This certainly is not the place for a real foodie. The food is not up to par.

My wife and I took our 9 and 11 yr old niece and nephew here for dinner as it was near the hotel. The menu is extensive and the food decent, but not great. There were very few people dining, yet s rice was not great.

We came here for breakfast and I have to say it is a great family restaurant. The food was outstanding with a very good variety and the service was wonderful.

The staff was friendly and courteous, they checked in on us frequently. I don't know what the negative reviews are all about, I went there 2 times over a 4 day stay and if they weren't closed, it would have been 3. I have nothing bad to say about this place, I wiil go out of my way to come here and I highly recommend it.

We had a great experience here. Everyone got what they wanted and was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. They do the American Diner justice.

Food was not great. I got the eggs with homefries more like french fries cut up into smaller pieces. Service was good though but there was only 4 groups so I would hope so.

Too expensive for the quality. This place is definitely riding on the coattails of its surrounding entities. What with all the hotels and Hershey Park just up the road tourists are bound to stumble in from time to time. I don't see them lasting for very long unless they make some improvements. They have this television which displays trivia and feature menu items in the form of a slideshow. Its a neat concept, BUT THE PICTURES ARE NOT OF THEIR FOOD! They are pictures found on the internet. Now maybe its because they just opened that they haven't photographed their own dishes, but if I were them I would certainly consider changing this feature as they could find themselves in hot water for false advertising. I only go here when invited, and even then its not before recommending some alternatives first.

Typical Diner Fare. I read the reviews and the negative ones are BS. I ordered 60 something dollars worth of take out and the food was good. I ordered the cheese fries with the chili on the side, baked salmon, meatloaf with extra mash, ham steak, 1/2 pound burger with cheese and bacon and a side salad. As I waited the staff was real friendly. I watched the TV and they showed the chef making his meatloaf. I then watched the chef come out if the kitchen with a tray of chocolate cream pie slices. So whoever typed that the pics on the TV are not from this restaurant is wrong. Also the restaurant was real clean too. I took my food and off I went. I had the chili which had plenty of beans and beef. Not spicy at all with a nice cumin flavor to it. The meatloaf was good. Two nice pieces with two heaping scoops of mash covered in gravy. I couldn't even finish the whole thing. My daughter loved the ham steak. For all that food, the price was right and it was close to our hotel which was an added bonus. One tip, this area is dry so no booze:( beyond that remember to tell them Dan sent you and Stay Hungry!

I can't with this place. I have tried it three times now, and each time was worse than the next. The first time, I ordered a grilled cheese and fries to go. It was fine. The second time, I ordered an omelet. WORST ever! It was burned and dry, just like the awful hash browns that come with it. I figured they were having a bad day, so I signed up for the birthday club to try again. The last time, my daughter and I sat in and had burgers. The food was good. The service was poor. The booth was dirty, and the server had an attitude about honoring our birthday coupons. She snatched the coupons, huffed and puffed about the bill, and overcharged me for a drink. Try Capitol Diner or Peachtree in Harrisburg, or one of the many delicious breakfast places in Hershey for a bit more money and better food/service.

Great restaurant. Have never had a bad meal here and have dined several times. Their ham loaf is amazing!! Also do yourself the favor and try the turkey dinner with the stuffing, mashed potato, and corn...you won't be disappointed. We love coming here and even as a large group have never had any issues. EVERYONE who works here is very friendly and super nice too. Cannot complain about a single thing with this restaurant.

I stopped in for the first time this morning for breakfast. I ordered my favorite selection; sausage gravy over biscuits. I like 2 eggs over easy on top of the gravy too. I sat at the bar which has seating for just 10 people, One item I noticed right away is the reach for the condiments when you sit at the bar - either my arms need to grow or the bar width is pretty deep. There is serious expanse of parking at this place, I also found that they can handle groups but there is no partition if you want privacy. The cute repeating TV displays a looped video that includes the advertisements for the restaurant; nice! Additionally the parking lot is well lit for security. The help are very courteous yet they all lacked a smile on their face. Each waitress wore an apron and each one was approachable at a moments notice. Ordered food arrived in less then 7 minutes, all items were hot and ample sized servings. additional condiments were suggested by the wait staff but I declined for the hot stuff. The food was amazingly fresh and home made. The biscuit was fluffy and not crumbly with layers that held together under the blanket of Sausage gravy. The order came with hash browns and they did not disappoint. Prices are commensurate with similar places in the industry locally to Hershey PA 17033, actually less then some places. I ordered a whoopee pie to take with me. WoW; what a difference quality baking makes! Most places make these desserts and use boxed cake mix but not this place. Man that was good the chocolate cake batter was homemade and soft and did not break into crumbles like most restaurants serve. This place also uses a whipped center for the lushness of soft cream in the middle between the caked goodness, with just a hint of peanut butter not overwhelming the consumer with over powering mushy cream filling. I applaud the baker for making such a delicate and advanced form of this PA Dutch favorite, Nice job!

Breakfast was the standard quality breakfast one would expect to receive at a harrisburg area diner. The service was a little slower then standard. The wait staff didn't seem to know what was going on. The hostess however was very nice and accommodating.

For a place that advertises the chef and owner was professionally trained in CO, Switzerland and at a school requiring ~6000 hours of instruction we were disappointed. The fries and mash potatoes were OK, the ham loaf was salty, but the Cesar salad was most disappointing coming to the table obviously wilted. The owner came after we sent it back admitting they'd missed checking it. Friendly staff. Clean. Once here is enough for us. I feel we wasted our money. In the elevator at the hotel another couple asked about dinner and I suggested they try another place.

I had a breakfast there it was good food coffee was great service excellent. This place was extremely clean I had a chance to peak inside of a kitchen and it was also very very neat and clean. So overall i had very good experience with this place and I do recommend this restaurant.

Disappointing. The modern square building is nondescript and takes away from the whole "diner" experience. That said, the dining room counter area is spacious and clean. TV screens spewing restaurant propaganda don't help the ambiance at all. Nothing that came out of the kitchen impressed me terribly. This included the mediocre and slightly burned coffee. Staff was friendly enough, but disinterested. Only one visit, but no particular reason to return unless I happened to be staying in the hotel next door and didn't have the energy to drive. And I had already lost the will to live. (PS check out the "filtered"--and therefore hidden--review by Tammy; it's pretty much right on the money)

we entered your establishment and asked a young man wearing a polo shirt not tucked in if it was ok to sit at the breakfast bar. I believe this was the manager though he never said that to me, but he said ok and we sat down. The manager then got our drink order and proceeded to get our drinks. After this it took about 15 minutes for our actual waitress to come over to us to take our order or even say hi. I ordered your Hershey breakfast feature and substituted French toast for the pancakes. I asked the waitress to please make my French toast more well done and also that i would like white toast on the side. My wife ordered lemon chicken dinner in white wine dressing with a salad. After waiting another 15 minutes our waitress was walking behind the counter have a conversation with the manager about how she forgot to make a salad for someone but couldn't remember who, then when my wife made eye contact with her she said "o my, I'm so sorry I'll be right out with your salad." And a minute later the salad was out. Then another 15 minutes passed and our food was brought out to us. Instantly my wife notice that the waitress forgot to bring out her bread for her meal and requested her bread. while she was gone I looked at my scrambled eggs and noticed that they were severely under cooked and that she had forgotten my toast as well. So when the waitress brought out my wife's bread I informed her of my eggs and my toast. She apologized for all the inconvenience and insured me that she would take care of the situations. While she was away getting my toast I decided to just eat my French toast, one bite and I realized that not only was in not well done like I had asked but it was under cooked as well. I was like pudding in my mouth. So when the waitress came back I said I'm sorry to keep doing this but my French toast was under cooked as well. So she proceeded to say sorry and took that back to the cook again. Meanwhile my wife received her food and is about to finish eating. Also on that chicken dinner, I do not believe 12.99 is a fair price for a tiny chicken breast and huge slices of tomato to fill the rest of the plate. Well finally my wife had finished her plate and my meal had just come out. Again the waitress apologized and said that everything was brand new and the cook even added more eggs. Now I have like I said worked a lot in food service and my father was a head chef at a Marriott in New Jersey. As I looked down at the eggs I realized that it was the old eggs over cooked with one new egg and the hash browns were the same as when I left them just sitting on the plate while the cook tried to fix my meal. I didn't make a big deal just sat and ate them anyway with the toast and bacon. Then when I went to try my French toast which looked more well done this time I realized was still under cooked on the inside. I didn't even bother to ask for anything more because at this point I was done. I asked that waitress for our check and she brought it over. At this time I put my credit card in the folder and began to wait for it to be cashed out. In this time I watched that manager start to make tea in front of us and proceed to take the tea pouch and rub it in to the counter to try and flatten it and another waitress through a dirty trey right in front of me and my wife. Then this other waitress tried to make desserts for another table right in front of us and when she didn't have enough room she rolled her eyes and acted as if we were taking up too much room. While all this was going on we waited about 20 minutes from when we received our check till when the manager finally grabbed it and cashed it out for us. Now I want nothing for my hardship not a comped meal or free dessert or anything like that, but your manager didn't once come over to me and express any thought that he even knew there was a problem even though he just stood in front of us the whole time. The only person who even apologized and tried to rectify the problem was the waitress. All I wanted was an acknowledgement and sorry from your manager and he seemed like he couldn't even be bothered. Your staff was incompetent and food was terrible. I have had good meals at your diner and would like to again but if things stay like this I will not be returning.

Been some time since we returned to this restaurant. Much better experience than our previous visit. Stopped by for lunch with three other people. Everyone was happy with their food. Nice waitresses with good service. Much improved over our last visit. Still recommend any party over two to avoid their booths. Knee banging bracing in them.

Interminably long wait for service. A simple breakfast took over an hour. I feel sorry for the poor overworked waitress and it was clear that someone failed to show for work but I would likely not return here. Having said that, the French toast was decent.

Stopped in to grab a bite on our way to Virginia, we were pleasantly surprised. The food was good (above average), the staff was very friendly and the place was immaculate. Liked it so much that we also stopped on our way home from Virginia.

What a relief to have a good lunch after dealing with Shoneys yesterday! I got chicken fingers and mashed potatoes from an adorable waiter named Matt. The food was really good, basic diner fare but not loaded with salt. They were playing Jamaican music which was odd and fun. Oh, and on the menu they had macaroni and cheese on the veggie of the day list. The only reason I give it 4 stars and not 5 was that the presentation of the desserts was not appetizing. It's not okay to show off chocolate cake on a styrofoam plate under Saran Wrap. The hostess was also not very polite or friendly. With all these terrible restaurants you can get trapped in on a road trip, this is a definite safe spot to get grub.

I have never written a Yelp review before but since Yelp is where I found this restaurant recommended and my experience was such a disaster, I felt it warranted my writing an opposing review. Other than the location to our hotel (We are staying at a nice, new hotel next door) there is NOTHING we experienced that would make it worth coming to this restaurant! Our evening there was almost comical as it started with five people running around frantically to set up a table for our party of six (when there were two large corner booths available in the pretty empty restaurant). We then sat down to plastic encased silverware/napkin rolls (hint to restaurant: even if they start that way for sterilization reasons, your patrons are not meant to see the plastic wrapper!). We ordered a variety of meals off of the rather large, varied menu - bringing to mind the fact that when you offer too many options you may end up unable to do anything well. Our warm rolls & butter, which were brought late to our table, were half the amount needed, with Promise spread(no butter option), barely warm and stale. Food (which looked nothing like the pictures in the menu) was for the most part bland and tasteless (even their potato chips had no flavor - how do you ruin a chip??) with the only items worth eating being a cup of chili, a quesadilla and the tater tots my son shared with the table - quite disappointing for the price we paid! We do NOT recommend this restaurant at all... In fact, my stomach and pocketbook are still hurting from the experience... (just realized I posted this on my daughter's account so I cut and pasted it onto my own when I got home from vacation...)

Good solid breakfast. Very nice and clean diner. Prices about what you would expect for breakfast. My wife had a breakfast wrap and I had an egg white garden omelet. Both were very good. Service was great.

Stopped here with the family for lunch on our way to Gettysburg. I had a london broil steak sandwich with mushrooms. The morsels of beef were tasty and tender. Hubby had scrambled eggs with home fries and he says those were the best eggs he ever had -- very fluffy and the home fries were slightly burnt just the way he liked them. Coffee was decent, slightly watery. Waitress was superb -- attentive with a wry sense of humor. The restaurant looks new, but it appears well-runned. Great place to stop for some comfort food, right off the highway.

The food was just ok, mostly tastes like it was right off the back of the Sysco truck. The value is horrendous. My wife and I went there for lunch and she got a half a grilled cheese (yes, a half. I have no idea what they do with the other half) and a cup of soup for $8. No chips or fries, that was extra. There are so many better options in the area, there is just no need to go back. We gave it a try, but there won't be a return visit.

My family has been coming to Hersey Park for the last 10 years we have experience all kinds of Restaurants but none more home like and comfortable then this. We spent the last 4 days in Hershey and come to this restaurant for Breakfast and Dinner on each of these days. The food is great the service outstanding. Special Kudos to our waitress Megan. Her wonderful personality and attention to details cannot be matched in any 5 star restaurant. Scott the exec chef and owner came out to greet us on our second night to thank us for coming back the second night. I noticed that this restaurant is not only frequented by the tourist trade but the locals as well. Thank you. This restaurant just added the cherry to our happy vacation Sundae. You can't help but fall in love with this place.

For all you folks traveling on I-81, stop here!!!!! The food we had for dinner was terrific. It was prepared quickly and served with a smile. The tuna melt was wonderful, as was the vegetable soup. We were just passing through, but I would return if I lived around here.

Really bad waitress service. Walked in a waited 15 minutes before anyone approached us. If the place was busy, I would understand, but our waitress was sitting down at counter and acted surprised that we didn't even get our drinks. Place in general is very plain and well hidden behind hotel. Food was not great either...pass this place up for another...oh wait...the best was the check.....no total on bill...guess I should have asked if it was free or more than likely, the staff can't add.

This restaurant has the best food....friendly staff.....been to the restaurant quite a few times. .... Tonight I had a chicken cheese steak...and my husband had a turkey dinner....The turkey isn't that pressed turkey that you get in a lot of restaurants....it's real turkey slices....mashed potatoes and filling - all homemade....not that boxed garbage. Our server was Brad....an excellent server....Would recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a good restaurant.

Basic diner food. I got a Philly burger and a turkey club. Both were served with cole slaw and chips. The food and space is nothing to write home about but the price and staff were both great. I would eat here again.

iI agree with gaz. Should be called a diner. Food below average and the place itself is boring to look at. I would pass on lunch and dinner. I can not comment on the breakfast. Staff was okay but confused. Pass and try something else.
