Something about diners, particularly ones with history or apparent-history, draws in the public regardless of food quality. I've seen this "diner nostalgia" all over the country: there's a collective memory of some place where we all used to gather and have fun, and of course it's still amazing. Not only must we eat there, but we must return repeatedly and gush about it to everyone we know. Famous Hot Weiner, amazing you are not. I thought my meal was just below average, although my wife's dislike was much greater. It tasted plasticy and bland, like everything had been purchased from the "cheap meat" bin at the supermarket. Recommendations? Fix the food. There's a trick done here with the preparation of the hot dogs that makes their meal unique, but I didn't think it was particularly amazing. The sides were of lesser quality. You need a creative chef that's willing to experiment with richer and higher quality components to the meals.

Well this place has a long time in the market I could say historical meaning had. Very clean, hot dog ok. Clean and friendly staff

Hanover staple! Im not a hotdog fan so I go for the fries and chili. They have chicken sandwiches and burgers but all are shaped like a hotdog and come on a hotdog bun. The burgers are dry and don't have much flavor until you cover them in chili. The service is fast even when it is packed. Im giving it a 3 stars cause the chili is its saving grace. It also has history, its been around for as long as I could remember.

One thing I like about this place is thick skin hot dogs but the dog tasted bland, just thick skin I like... Chili is horrible, it doesn't taste like chili, more of watery tomato sauce with cheap ground beef. The hamburgers are horrible. The place is very small, a baby stroller will block everyone because there is no place to put away. Famous? It is either folks have no taste buds or they are lying to get you to stop by.

Battle of the hot dogs Famous cheese weiner w/ chili. $2.74 Famous fries w/ chili. $2.74 Slightly stale bun. Chili a tad bland and watery. Compared to Texas Hot Weiner Lunch, fries slightly better tasting, staff a little more professional all around, though slightly more expensive. A little smaller portions of fries. This place is just Awful. The hotdogs are so bland that personally I would rather go to a convenience store and get one. Somehow the chili onions and hotdog (with a gross thick skin) all taste watered down. The "Shake" is just stirred up soft serve that is lacking in flavor as well. Our server was so pregnant she was about to pop, and wanted nothing to do with us. She spoke so softly you couldn't hear her, and never checked on us. Despite 5 employees standing behind the counter I could not get the attention of any of them or our server and had to walk up and ask for a refill. You would think that with all of the "extra help" the place would be clean but it was the opposite! Bad food, bad service, bad standards.

I use to love the place food is awesome...Great place to catch up over awesome pancakes or hot weiner..Plain and simple what made me forsake the broadway location is the mother daughter waitress team there in the mornings, ignorant is doesn't even describe there attitude toward the customers.Do I expect cart wheels and rainbows no but I haven't set foot in the broadway location as long as they are there I go to the dart drive one instead..i have tried and tried to get the daughter fired, complained, wrote letters and shes still there bringing the place down

I didn't like this hot dog. I couldn't eat all of it. Very tough skin. The onions smelled awful too and I love onions. The fries are good though!

This establishment is just a Mediocre place. The meal consisted of a rubbery, bland hot dog. The chili was mediocre, and the bun was too dense. Each bite consisted of too much bread with bland hot dog. The place is still popular more because of its history in the community, not because it has a good weiner. And "famous fries" that come out of a frozen bag from cisco aren't famous. If you are in Hanover, PA you could try it, but don't go out of your way for this place.

Good dog! Loaded with chili, chopped onion and mustard grilled to crispy perfection. All you can ask for a "famous hot weiner" . In the weiner business since 1923 for good reason, and cold beer available.

At first, you snicker at the name if you are not from this town as I did, then the townies will stare at you blankly like they just don't get what is purely comical about the name "Famous Hot Wiener". In fact, they might get a little rowdy thinking that you are insulting their long standing hot dog institution, but I giggle with nothing but love for the love on a bun that place pumps out. They have some kind of crack in the food here because hot dogs shouldn't taste this good. They split and grill them, then make them disappear under a 2" slab of chili, cheese and onions (or whatever you ask for really). So great. Wash one down with a frosty beer and an order of gravy fries and you just might give yourself a heart attack from grease overload, but its pretty damn tasty even if you reek like body oder when you leave from the onions.

I'm not exactly sure what makes Hanover, PA's hot dog stands so famous. I ordered a Famous Chili Dog and got a soggy, bland tasting, mediocre, bulk packaged, store bought hot dog. To make things worse, my fries were extremely soggy. Don't be fooled by the nostalgia and a name, there's nothing special about this place.
