Healthy Meal suggestions for Cracker Barrel

Very average Cracker Barrel, but cannot handle massive holiday rushes. I went here on a holiday last year and half the food arrived cold - and it took forever. On any other night, it's a very typical CB, though!

Great people, decent food at a reasonable price. Portions are just the right size to fill ya up, but not too much. Coffee was always refilled - can't say enough about good attitude of all the employees. Nice little store to browse with a selection of CDS if you're in the mood for some tunes.

This is the cleanest Cracker Barrel I have ever been to. This place is spotless! The bathrooms smelled like a cool summer rain. Food great and the service was with a smile as well. Good job guys!

Should have tried the breakfast but I wasn't in the taste mood. The lunch was barely passable. The Mac and cheese was runny. The turnip greens overcooked. The fried okra was overbreaded. In fact, you could harks find the bite sized bits okra in the batter, which was under seasoned. Bu contrast, the grilled trout was flavorful and cooked to perfection; the biscuits were excellent. Next time I'll go for the breakfast.

I suppose to a point, if you've been one Cracker Barrel be it in Florida, Virginia or in Pennsylvania then you've been to them all. You know the drill: 1. Walk into faux Southern gift shop that wants to look like some kind of grandmother's attic/yard sale/low country-esque road side store except that instead of being filled with antiques and heirlooms it's filled with overpriced useless crap from China. 2. Menu that's far from creative but can be decent when it's executed properly. 3. The strange policy where you don't pay the server but instead have to walk it back out to the gift shop where the registers are. (I guess CB as a chain doesn't get stiffed a lot of else they would change this but it just seems ripe for a ton of walkouts.) With that said I've been here twice within the last three months and both times were surprisingly good. As others have mentioned, if this place ever has a slow time I have yet to see it. Both times, once for dinner on a Sunday and the other for lunch on a Tuesday, we were able to get a table right away but were sandwiched in between larger groups. It was awkward but it beat waiting for a table. The menu items overall are not worth mentioning because with one exception little is outstanding. The breakfast stuff could be had at any Friendly's, Denny's, Perkins or small town diner for comparable cost or less and with comparable quality or better. On the lunch menu the one surprising bright spot was the Apple Cider BBQ Chicken Breast. The chunks of gala apple along with the BBQ sauce were very, very good and the piece of chicken was perfectly grilled. Sure it's on the "healthy" menu but what the hell, good stuff is good stuff. I never seek out Cracker Barrel but if your on a highway driving in the middle of nowhere chances are at the next exit/interchange one will be there and while they are not five star cuisine it more than fits the bill to get you back on the road in a hurry.

No, no and no. I normally love Cracker Barrel but our waitress was horrible. Never came to ask us how our food was and took 15 minutes to come out to our table! I'm sure I'll be back again, but I was really put off this time.

This place was amazing! A bit pricy for some, but definitely worth it. Food is very tasty and always leaving full to busting after one serving of my meal. Staff is absolutely friendly and the food tastes fresh. Definitely better than frackville's crackerbarrel!

there is not a thing that cracker barrel sells that is not good. it is hard to decide what to get when I go to one because everything is so good. the roast beef is so tender you can cut it with a fork. the biscuits are really good. the pancakes are amazing. the catfish is good both ways they make it as well as the trout. the chicken and dumplings are excellent. the blackberry cobbler is by far the best desert. they have e excellent thick cut bacon, make sure to order it well done. sweet tea is really good. service is always good. never a problem with any cracker barrel I have been to.

One of my favorites. Whenever I don't know where to go for cheap quality sit down food, I go to Cracker Barrel. I can't get enough of those biscuits and gravy . Rarely ever have any issues at all. About 1/15 visits might have a slow waitress and that's it. If they ever have the blackberry cobbler, it is to die for good. It's always so hard to decide wether or not I want to eat breakfast or dinner because they both are so good. But whatever you do, don't eat the biscuits without asking for a free side of sawmill gravy for the biscuits. You won't regret it.

Been to many Cracker barrels from NY to Florida. This one is by far the worst. Food is great. No problem with the kitchen, it's the servers who are terrible. Waitress Marlene obviously failed charm school. I frequently find a restaurant this bad to be a reflection of poor or incompetent management. I know with a waitress like Marlene, management has had to deal with other complaints and chose to ignore them. I think I will contact corporate for their input. Remember... the food is still great, the service stinks.

We stopped here because my wife always liked this chain while I thought it was just so-so. Having said that, I liked my meal and wife liked hers. Nothing overly fancy with bells and whistles but just a plain old fashioned home cooked meal. Waitress Jennifer was very nice and the atmosphere was pretty decent. Would prefer that CB had a policy of having the waitress/waiter take the bill and return with the change....you have to go to the gift shop to pay but oh well. Otherwise, a decent meal, decent price, beyond pleasant waitress, nice experience.

Solid food for the road. Making the trip from PA to NY, this'll hold you all the way home. Chicken fried steak isn't amazing but the grilled chicken is tender, juicy and the perfect portion size. Don't fall for the overpriced vintage candy though! And make sure to try out the rocking chairs before you go.

We frequent Cracker Barrel, wherever we travel. (Mostly within the Northeast area). We have stopped at this location twice now, and both times have had the same issue. We get the same meal each time we come here (we hate changing it up), and he always has the "Country Boy" breakfast. This comes with steak, eggs, biscuits and gravy & 3 sides. Each time at this location, they cannot cook his steak properly. He requests Medium Rare. I understand sometimes things come out a little over cooked, and he can get Medium. Each time we have come here, it has been Medium Well, and have to return it. While we are waiting for the re-fire, his food gets cold. Luckily, the new steak was cooked perfect and it was a nicer steak, but I just don't understand why cooking steak is an issue, especially if its a common food item that people order. It seemed like both times other tables were having issues as well: the manager came out a lot at tonight's service. Other than that, we love Cracker Barrel. All the food is great, and I love the country store. It's way over priced, but I enjoy looking and often buy a few of the candies (Modjeskas are my favorite!!) The staff was very pleasant. Always a winner!

Good place to stop when driving. Quick and easy comfort food. Surprising amour of vegetarian options (veg dinner plate & breakfast all day) Had the French toast which was very good, served with hot syrup which was a nice touch. Food came out quickly which was nice since it was just a break from driving. Friend has eggs, sausage, and biscuits which were all good. Perfect for a break instead of going to a rest stop Nd having fast food.

The food touches each other on the plate!!!! In some of the other cracker barrels I've been to, they separate each dish and sides with various small plates/bowls. Regardless, still delicious!

I grew up in PA, so anytime I'm back in the area I can't resist me some Cracker Barrel deliciousness. This one happens to be in very close proximity to Cabela's. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Not all of it will blow you away, but everything I've had is solid. Make sure you get at least some amount of gravy...sawmill or beef...mashed potatoes optional (but encouraged). Also, the cole slaw and the raspberry lemonade. The best part? I could barely walk I was so full and we walked out with a $32 bill for 3 people.

My preferred way to end all vacations. Cracker Barrel! Sunday warning : They're all ALWAYS BUSY as heck on Sundays. You've been warned.. Of course the gift shop (trap) is a great time waster.

We went out to eat before seeing the local school musical. I love the rocking chairs outside (though they're obviously for sale) it was nice to have somewhere to sit (and even play a game of checkers) while waiting. The gift shop is cute with a huge variety of items, though higher priced than I'm willing to spend. It's very clean, including the bathrooms. The employees are friendly, even when walking past one to go to our table, they'd smile and say hello. Our waitress was Jodie and she was personable and knowledgeable of the food. On the menu, there is a "healthy" section with calorie counts, which was helpful for me. I ordered the catfish, broccoli and green beans. The catfish was very good and normally when you order vegetables at a restaurant, they're either undercooked, overcooked or underseasoned, however these were delicious. The broccoli was cooked just right and had excellent seasoning without it being overseasoned. The green beans might have been slightly overcooked but I enjoyed them and, again, were seasoned wonderfully. They also bring homemade cornbread and biscuits while you wait (which didn't help my calorie counting.) The cornbread was very good, but wasn't as sweet as I prefer my cornbread to be. Simply a matter of personal preference. Excellent food and service which made for an enjoyable time with family. Thank you!

Driving across the country. I stopped at Cracker Barrel for breakfast. The breakfast was perfect and out server Michael couldn't have been more welcoming!

We had dinner there last night and overall it was very positive. My husband ordered the broccoli cheddar chicken and I ordered the lemon pepper grilled rainbow trout. Mine came with three sides (I chose the sweet potato, rice pilaf & cole slaw) and my husband's came with two sides. We were also each given a buttermilk biscuit and a corn muffin, as per usual at Cracker Barrel. We took dessert for later (pumpkin custard). Everything was very tasty, but the dessert was *heavenly*. The bill was $26.75, not including tax and tip. The young woman who brought out our food was very sweet and the cashiers were very friendly. The only negative was our server, as she was quite perfunctory. Also; I'd noticed on the menu that if you ordered a beverage (my husband ordered iced tea) and you ordered dessert, you got a free refill to take with you. We told our server that my husband would indeed like a free iced tea to go, and she flatly denied there was such an offer on the menu. We insisted that she bring the menu and we showed her - and even though she then complied, she didn't apologize for her previous comment.

A tired old joke: A vegan asks what there is to eat for him at the Cracker Barrel. He is told to enjoy his fine glass of ice water. There is apparently meat in everything. I ordered a side dish of veggies -- they came flecked with bits of ham. The idea of forcing you to enter through a giftshop, to eat at a diner, is a funny marketing trick no one seems to mind, and I admit to eyeing the chotzkes.

Always there for me whenever I'm on the road. Good old Southern cuisine with traditional country decor and friendly service. Certainly beats eating fast food.

We have been taken 78 West back to Baltimore for a while now, we always get fast food for lunch, however recently we decided to try Cracker Barrel, the food and service were amazing, been there 3 times already, Friday is the best as they have the Clam Chowder and Salad special, most of everything is very good and fresh like home cooking.

Being at Cracker Barrel was such a surreal experience! Two outsiders (an Indian guy with a white girl who has a French accent) enter this southern restaurant and attempt at reading the menu: not very successful. Dumplins? Are those like the amazing chinese dumplings we have in so many great spots in NYC? Biscuits? Are those the same as the French buiscuits? (cookies) Grits?? Needless to say, we had lots of questions. The boyfriend ended up with chicken with rice (he loved it) and I had some kind of sampler. The plate was huge, I mean HUGE. It had ham (barely touched it), dumplins (now I know what they are, and they are good!), meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and mac n' cheese. Anyway, I could not even half the plate, but I loved the mashed potatoes, while the mac n' cheese was too rich. Overall, we were impressed with southern cooking. The dinner was a 4-star rating, but I am giving this place in Hamburg, PA, a 5-star review because of the staff. When we entered the restaurant originally, my boyfriend's iPhone was dead and mine was dying. Since we still needed the GPS to get home, we REALLY needed to charge the phones. Needless to say, most New Yorkers don't have cars, and when we rented ours for a few days, we didn't realize we needed a special charger for our phones (go ahead, call us dumb, because we are!) We asked the hostess if any of the staff had a charger for the phone. She said she would inquire about it. Within a few minutes, our waitress told us that her co-worker had a car charger and they did not need to turn the car on to charge the phone. Here's the special thing about that co-worker: her shift was over, but she decided to stay until we were done eating to give time for my iPhone to charge. Really? How could she be so nice?! I've never met a waitress like that in Manhattan. They were so friendly, we immediately thought of quitting our investment bank jobs and move to Pennsylvania! Ah, so good!

Very pleasant staff, food is good for a chain restaurant, low price, overall... Great!

This popular chain is always a pleasure, even if the menu is anything but low cal. I do appreciate that when we go and there are large crowds waiting (especially on Sunday afternoons) the wait time is rarely as long as we are told to expect. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Gift store items, if rather kitchy and "country saccharin sweet" are relatively competitive in price. I might be interested in going more than once every couple of months (we are a 30 minute drive away) if there was a greater selection of lower cal/sal/fat items in the menu. For the outdoors fans, the location is just down the street from "Cabela's", the hunting, fishing, outdoors mega-store.

Food is ok, but staff was very rude. I felt rushed and not very important from the moment I walked in. Manager helped save the experience a little bit for me, but both the waitress and hostess were extremely moody. Maybe I just picked a bad day to go in?

Comfort food! Our waitress was very friendly and our food came out in a timely matter. The open-face roast beef sandwich was very surprisingly good.

What can I say, It's Cracker Barrel, Breakfast was hot service was ok. I am not a fan really since the chain makes it abundanly clear they do not care for Gay people. I had to eat and I wasn't driving so Cracker Barrel it was. Otherwise I would just skip it.
