I really love going to local italian joints in NEPA and most of the time the food doesn't disappoint. Unfortunately, I wasn't wowed with Villa Foglia. The owner, Bernie, is well-known around town and is SUPER sweet and friendly. He's awesome. The food, however, just wasn't great --- and it was REALLY pricy. No one in my party enjoyed their food, ranging from traditional pasta dishes to seafood entrees. Service could also have been much friendlier. I have heard that they have great take-out for things like cheesesteaks and pizza, so perhaps this place might give you some decent (and more affordable) bites if you're eating at home.

Date night was a success! Especially dinner at Villa Foglia. The atmosphere is dated a little (love it) as it should. Service was great! Appetizer was out very fast.....salads......dinner were all served at just the right time. We love the small businesses in the valley and are not too keen on the chain restaurants. We'll be back.

So my mother and I wanted to try something new. We always go to gricos so we said let's go across the street today and go to villa foglia. We sat ourselves, and the waitress was by herself Bartending and waiting tables. She was nice but slow. There were 4 other tables at the time so I mean we were in no rush. I got clams casino for an appetizer and shrimp and scallop scampi over linguini as my entree. It took at least 30 minutes until my appetizer came out and it just was a damper on my plate. They were mush and really had no flavor I was so disappointed. However my entree was delicious. I will be back again, but I am going to skip the clams casino and make sure I do not have plans for the rest of the evening because of how long it took for the food to come out.

I have a Yelp review for Theos in Kingston and I say in the review among 4 or 5 different places in the area, one of them Villa Foglia, we don't need to go anywhere else. We went last nite; must be the 500th time we've been here- or Bernie's previous place, also in Exeter. Heck, our first date we went to Bernies and we're together almost 40 years. Are there some area Italian places as good as the Foglia? Maybe. But I think you've got to travel to Old Forge or even Dunmore to find one. Last nite my bride ordered the Chicken Siciliano. I got the Chicken Calabrese. Nothing skimpy about the portions. We took home what was left on the plates. I had mine this morning at 6am. Delicious last nite. Delicious this morning. As always. The best in consistently good Italian fare at a reasonable price? They nail it.

We decided to try this restaurant as a result of a gift we received of a restaurant.com voucher. The voucher was for $25 but you had to spend $45. No problem on creating a $45 tab. We arrived rather late, 7:30 on a weeknight. Few people were dining at that time. The atmosphere is rather dark, dingy and very dated. Vintage would be the designer term. As we don't drink alcohol, we stayed with water and iced tea. The water was heavily chlorinated, something I take particular note of. My partner and i ordered two very similar dishes of seafood over linguini. The food was average. Nothing bad to say, but nothing over the top either. Think about it - what is the cost of serving a huge bowl of pasta topped by a half dozen shrimp or scallops? The seafood served in each dish was prepared well, not overly done as can sometimes happen. All in all, food was fine, although slightly overpriced for what it was. Again, consider what a lb of pasta costs and add a few pieces of seafood., some oil, garlic or red sauce. Our biggest issue was when the bill arrived. The receipt was completely confusing. An automatic tip in the amount of $10.50 was generated and added, but there was an additional entry for a "gratuity" of the exact same amount. Therefore, on a $50 ish invoice there were two entries of $10.50 each for a total of $21.00. It was like rocket science to get the waitstaff to explain to us how this happened. It was explained that is something that their system does automatically when you use a groupon and that there are many complaints. Turns out there was only one actual charge in the amount of $10.50 automatically added as a tip. The concerning part is the receipt from the register said the gratuity was 16%... but when you added it up to the total (not counting the gift certificate) it was actually 20%. So it reads 16% yet charges 20%. This is just not good. Again, the second charge labeled as "service charge" in the amount of $10.50 was one identical and the same as the tip. It was explained that this was repeated, but only actually charged once. We were also told that they receive many complaints on how confusing this is. That being said, one would think that they would rectify this issue and the over-charge on the automatic gratuity. Personally, i resent a tip being automatically added. I don't agree with being told what to tip. A gratuity should be just that. I understand when there are large parties, it is a common practice to add in the tip, but for a party of two (2)? It was told to us that this occurs as a result of using the restaurant.com voucher. That being said, if this is customary practice, weI will no longer utilize restaurant.com , and you can be certain our "trying the Villa Foglia" as a result of restaurant.com ensures that we will not return as a repeat customer.

Excellent food best "calabrase " I have ever eaten. Simple dish with protien, fried potatoes, and peppers. Bernie cooks it perfectly no heavy daisies just extra virgin olive oil and lots of fresh garlic. Family run with a family friendliness.
