Kept seeing such great reviews here on Yelp and we decided we had to try this place. Hands down, this is the best BBQ I've had anywhere in PA! This place is really small. We got lucky and were able to get a seat while ordering. We ordered the beef brisket & pulled pork. Both were fantastic. The beef brisket was so tender that I couldn't get a piece onto a fork to let my companion try it. I tried it without the sauce and could have eaten the entire thing that way but the homemade sweet sauce just added so much to the flavor that we ended up buying a bottle to take home. Beef brisket is not easy to cook but they have mastered how to do it. The pulled pork was some of the best I've ever had. Full of so much flavor and melt-in-your-mouth tender. We decided to order a pound of it to take home. Ended up heating it up the next day and it was just as good. This was a key factor for me. IMHO, pulled pork doesn't reheat very well. It usually is too dry and just doesn't have the same flavor. This was not the case at all. It was just as good as the day before. If you are looking for some good BBQ in Central PA, you really should try this place. Plan on getting take out though due to such limited seating. You might get lucky and get a table but don't plan on it. The river is runs along this joint and if the weather is nice, getting an order to go and sitting along the Susquehanna River might just end up being the perfect afternoon. And you can always visit the Old Sled Factory for a trip down memory lane while you are here.

Get the sampler. Brisket and wings are the best. Wings have great smoke flavor. Brisket very tender.

We stopped here for lunch after visiting the old sled works. We order a grilled chicken sandwich and a pulled pork with coleslaw on top. Nice selection of bbq sauces which complimented the meal well. You can also buy the sauces for $3 and refills are $2.

Great BBQ I got there 45 minutes before close. I ordered a full rack of ribs, my wife and god daughter had pulled pork sandwiches. They had fries and Cole slaw I had beans and Mac and cheese. The ribs were fall off the bones tender sweet and smokey the whole way through. There was no need for any additional sauce. Flavor was all the way to the bone and all through the pulled pork sandwiches. The beans had huge chunks of meat in it and were sweet and smokey. Mac n cheese was good. Total bill 41.00 worth every dime. Seating is an issue but food is worth it.

Probably the best BBQ in the greater Harrisburg Area. The food is top notch and I have never had a bad meal there. The staff is friendly and food is served quickly. The dining room is small, but no complaints. You get to meet other people and have nice conversations. I prefer a small restaurant to keep their overhead low to ensure fair prices and longevity. The Bully sandwich is the greatest sandwich I have ever had...ever. Their sauces are superior and show each is different and wonderful. All the sides I have tried are incredible and made with care. Love Roadhawg BBQ!

This is the only BBQ place I've been to around here that does not overlook it's brisket! Very tender and delicious. People behind the counter were super friendly as well.

We eat here often! The pulled pork sandwiches are great! The sides are delicious. I especially like the slaw and baked beans, although the mac n'cheese and fries are good too. People come from all around to eat here and the place is usually busy. The food is always good.

Stop reading this review. You're wasting time that could be spent coming here and eating the very best BBQ in Pennsylvania. What's that? You think I'm a bit heavy on the hyperbole? This place was recognized by the local paper as the best of the best in the area, and the competition was pretty stiff. The fries are sinfully delicious...the beans are very sweet...the pickles are just salty enough, and the pork? Goodness, gracious, great balls of fire! You there? On the fence? Come in here. Order the Brisket. Get the hot sauce, or the mild. Order coleslaw and fries. (Arnold voice) DO IT! DO IT NOW! You'll be happy that you did. And if your experience is anything like mine, you'll be back whenever you get a BBQ craving.

Christmas is coming and a present hunting run to the Old Sled Factory is a must. Found ourselves hungry, and decided to fortify before shopping. Stopped in to Road Hawg, where the adorable gal behind the counter was sporting a plush red Santa apron and a winning smile. Ordered two sandwiches and a mess of fries to share. The pulled pork was flavorful, but a bit dry. This was remedied by a generous dousing with their yummy sauces: hot, sweet, and mild. The brisket was heaven-sent. I could eat POUNDS of it. Melts in the mouth. Prices not bad, fries respectable and they give you a slew of 'em. I'll be back. You try 'em, too, and tell them Midtown Moxie sentcha.

Amazing bbq! If you live within driving distance or are just passing through like us, you must eat here! The pulled pork, brisket, beans, and mac & cheese are phenomenal. They also have several kinds of bbq sauce. And the staff is super cool.

Ordered the variety platter. The platter was comprised of baby back ribs, pulled pork, beef brisket, chicken wings and two sides fries and beans for this order. The brisket was the best I have had, tender, moist and flavorful. Chicken wings were prepared with the rub and expertly cooked. Pulled pork was excellent, tender with good smoked pork flavor. The baby backs were rib perfection, meaty, tender with good flavor. Sides were well done with special compliments for the beans; mixed variety of beans in an excellent sauce. Fair prices and good service. Road Hawg is first rate.

Brisket Happiness I am a BBQ guy, and I love REAL BBQ. I had heard so much about them, I thought we would give them a try, so we made the trek up to Duncannon to give them a shot. First of all, I am a bit confused why the newer BBQ joints have little to no onside seating. When we entered there were no seats open and they have seating for around 20. Outside there were about 4 picnic tables but I wasn't sitting there, it was 40 degrees outside. My thought is that any restaurant that does this, misses out on winter customers AND should probably make their business take out only and advertise as such. On to the food and service. As I said, the tiny place was packed, so after a brief wait, our order was taken. The counter girls were nice and took our order and passed it on the the kitchen. My wife and I ordered their combo platter and my daughter ordered their pulled pork sandwich. We decided to get our meal to go because there was no seats open, but, while we were waiting seats opened up and we decided to stay. In about 10 minutes our food was up and we brought it to our seats. Their portions are generous. The combo platter had 1/3 rack of baby backs, 4 dry rubbed chicken wings, a container of pulled pork, a container of brisket. You also get 2 sides, pickles and two "buns" with the combo platter. My wife opted for cole slaw and mac and cheese and I had baked beans and mac and cheese. As sides go; I liked the baked beans, they were homemade and had pulled pork in them and were slightly sweet. I also had a small bone chip in mine, which was no big deal, I pulled it out and kept going because I liked them. The mac and cheese, while tasting homemade, was kind of blah. It tasted a little cheesy and you could see the cheese in it, but it was missing that "UMPH" that makes yo want more. As for the meats I will go down from my favorite to least favorite 1) Brisket- this is what brisket should be like; moist, smoky and a little spice that accents the meat not overpowers it, 2) Ribs- Baby backs are not my favorite, but these were done right. They were just on the edge of falling off the bone and had great smoky flavor with a spicy sweet sauce I loved 3) Chicken Wings- normally I am not a fan of these and they actually tied with the ribs in my mind- they were dry rubbed with a good rub and cooked to perfection- they did not need sauce, but I tried the hot and the sweet on them anyhow- more about sauce later... 4) Pulled Pork- Well it fell short for me. I know the challenges of cooking this meat and getting it right. Holding it, well that's it's downfall. My pulled pork lacked flavor and it was mushy (overcooked). I know this was in a pan, and I know that is why it probably was the way it was, but that is life. Lastly, the "buns"- low quality hamburger buns- I think regular old Southern style white bread would have been better. I tried the cole slaw my wife got and I am not a fan, but I am a cole slaw snob. My wife picks in order: 1) brisket 2) chicken 3) pulled pork 4) ribs- she doesn't like sweet ribs. My daughter said her pork sandwich was ok but not the greatest. One thing that they say on their menu (I saw it on menupix.com ) is that they pride themselves on serving competition quality meats and homemade sides. I would say that if any of these were served at a BBQ competition, the one that would stand out is the brisket and maybe the chicken, the rest may help them up in the standings, but would not get them a call. How would I know? I am a KCBS certified BBQ Judge... All in all, I would say that I would come back as the Brisket makes me happy!

First timers. Pretty clear that the best way to appreciate Road Hawg's BBQ is in the summer, when one can eat outside, or by takeout. The inside is tiny and very busy with folks coming in and going out, and standing at the counter placing and picking up orders. I'd estimate fewer than 20 indoor seats, and half are counter stools. Not a problem for us, but not everyone would agree. Widescreen TV tuned to ESPN occupied most of one corner. I'd say this a a more traditional southern-style BBQ joint. Nothing fancy about the food, unless you count getting your "sammwiches" Pittsburgh style. We ordered the Sampler for B & me, a pulled pork sandwich and double mac (what else?) for M. You'll find the Sampler offerings set out below. The best? Wings and the brisket. Former were meaty and had a nice spicy dry rub. Some of the best I've had around here. (Thank you for not saucing the wings!) The brisket was very tender and tasted of smoke. The pulled pork, while equally tender, was unfortunately tasteless. I could have been eating almost anything. The ribs were not especially smoky tasting and were coated with a sticky sweet sauce that did nothing for me. Sides were okay. Slaw was good, but not sure if it was house made. The beans were better. The mac looked like Kraft from the package, but tasted better, a 3 out of 5 according to M. We were told that RHBBQ does "not allow BYOB" because they "don't have a permit." (What kind of permit does a place need for BYOB?!) Drink choices are fountain soda, bottles or spigot. Even the sweet tea is packaged. BBQ without beer? And in a building shared by a beer distributor! I think we'd stop for the brisket if we were in the area, but not driving to Duncannon again just for this.

My review is based on their food, not the restaurant itself. I have not been there yet. We had an event at the Navy Base and we had the BBQ brought in. First thing I noticed was how professional the packaging looked for the food to travel in! Plus it was a 30 minute ride in and the food was piping hot! Kudos to them. So we had pulled pork, brisket, slaw, and beans. The pulled pork was tender and most importantly, you could see the smoke ring. It was moist and very flavorful. They also included three different sauces. Any true BBQ connoisseur eats the meat first to taste the smoke and flavor, then enhances it with sauce it they so desire. The sauce I tried was good, but BBQ to me is always about the meat first. This delivered! The ribs had that great bark that you only get when you know what you are doing. Smoked just right but not overdone. Good job again. Fall off the bone tender, tasty, and again the all important smoke ring. Brisket. If you know anything about brisket, you know that if you are a novice, the brisket will be like shoe leather. Its a hunk of muscle and the toughest piece of meat to BBQ hands down. Again, prevalent smoke ring. When I picked it up, I thought to myself, "there is no way that this is as tender as it looks". Guess what? IT WAS. To impart smoke into brisket is one thing. To get it so moist and tender, well folks that takes skill! I have to say just based on the tenderness, this is the best brisket I've ever had, hands down. Just my preference, but i thought it lacked a little spice. Maybe it needed a different rub, or more of it, but it was still amazing! We also had wings. The wings are smoked and then flash fried. If you've never had wings like this, you are in for a treat. Very good flavor and tender. Not greasy at all like traditional wings. The beans were superb. Good flavor and a variety of beans with huge chunks of pork mixed in. Cole slaw was slightly crunchy and very flavorful. I don't know where these people came from and I don't care! Winner Winner, BBQ Dinner!

This is a good place hidden away down town Duncannon off Rt 11/15. You can sit inside or out, but limited seating. The portions are very good value for rmoney. I had the brisket and fresh cut fries. The sauce you help yourself, was sweet and succulent. The service was peasant. I need to get back there to try the pork and ribs, I wish they had a website so I can see if they will sell the brisket by the pound to take home. My only small compalint is the bread roll could be better, and not break apart so easily. If you are anywhere near Duncannon be sure to visit.

I wanted to see the selection of cars at the Ford dealer in Duncannon and figured this would be great for a Sunday afternoon drive with my son. At the end of town just at the intersection at Rt 11 I spotted a small BBQ place. I had promised my son we would eat at Red Rabbit, but when you find a BBQ joint by accident you have to try it. What a great find !! I had the pulled pork served "Pittsburgh Style, really Primanti Brother's style for those that know) with coleslaw, tomato and fresh cut fries on Italian Bread. This is such a great combination on a sandwich. The pork was tender and smoked just right without being overbearing. I liked the mix of tender middle pieces and burnt outside pieces together. The fries were exceptionally good. I suspect they double fry them at 2 different temperatures to ensure a tender and crisp french fry. I sampled all 3 of the homemade sauces. Offered in Sweet, Mild and Hot. The Hot was too much for me, the Mild was great and the Sweet was well, sweet. My son had a hot dog and fries, but when he tried my sandwich, he was hooked too. I gladly shared with him, it was huge !! Very reasonable prices for all the food. Brisket, Ribs, Chicken, Wings, those great fries and Mac and Cheese. I can't wait to go back to try more of the menu. Great Job !!

I had the chopped beef bbq sandwich and the wife had the pulled pork and we split a side of fries. So, so good. Perfectly cooked meat, great sauce and spongy white rolls that soaked up the sauce, but didn't get soggy. The fries were good, but nothing special. Even better, it's right of the highway. Easy on and off. Seating is limited and shared. We'll be back.

Best BBQ in PA. The meats are fantastic and if you have a chance buy the sauces. The smoked wings are the best I ever had. Please make the detour if you are in the area and try this place. It reminds me so much of being in the south, especially on a cold PA day.

The Pork BBQ was banging and so were the baked beans! I will be back! Their air conditioning was not sufficient so it does get stuffy and and warm. There is little seating in doors but they have seating outside as well. This is a must if you are a BBQ Lova!

Holy brisket gods!!! This place deserves five full stars and more. We tried the brisket as other reviewers were raving about it, and boy were they right! I have only ever had one better piece of brisket in my life and that is in Austin TX! This www crazy moist, succulent, and didn't even need the good house sauces (tho they are delish). We got the wings which were also great but frankly unless you are Hindu there is no reason any one in your party should skip brisket!

Love!! Menu is simple. They know what they know and they cook it well! Meat is moist and flavorful. Sandwiches are flavorful and honest. No hiding behind a bunch of ingredients. This is the real deal. People who work there don't really make eye contact. Not mean, they have enough friends and just want you to order. Get The Bully. Fab!!!

Oh. My. G-d. I am so happy I visited this place. I had heard several recommendations to come here if you're the type looking for authentic BBQ. Where to begin? The brisket? The wings? Or maybe the location? I don't know! Okay, so I'll start with the location. The location is right off of US 11/15. I got lost a few times getting there, and with darkness fast approaching, I really didn't want to get lost for good. Fortunately, I did find it, and I was happy I did, because when I went in (parking is limited, warning), I walked out probably heavier than I was when I had gotten there. Its a rather small place, only about 15-20 seats, with a counter you order, and then you wait until they call your name. Not quite knowing what to order (and being really hungry), I ordered the sampler (staff accommodated by giving me 6 extra wings to make up for the fact they sold out of ribs). This was to be a big mistake. More on that in a bit. While you'd think it'd be loud and crazy (it'll remind you of a biker bar) it wasn't. It had one big screen TV, and a lot of people watching around it. No bells, no whistles, just some sporadic cheering when something good happened. Not a problem, sometimes that's just the way the restaurant wants it. Now, onto the food. The food portions I got were HUGE. This was not a sampler, this was short of the whole restaurant. I didn't know what to start first? Brisket? Pork? Wings? or maybe go with my sides? (Mac 'n' cheese, french fries, and pickles). Definitely not the roll, since last thing I needed was to fill up on bread. So I tried the brisket first, since that apparently is the rave of the place. AMAZING! It is very tender and melts in your mouth. It was a half pound, but you would never know it. It goes down real easy, and has awesome flavor. For anyone who is a vegetarian, knows a vegetarian, or has children who don't like meat, feed them some of this, and they'll quickly change their mind. If I come here again, I already know what I'm getting... Then, I tried the pork. I tried to get them to replace it with BBQ beef, but they wouldn't. So I took a few small bites. It was very average. Not a fan, put it to the side and went back to work on my lovely brisket. It didn't take long before it was all gone. I then moved on to the sides. Mac n cheese first. It's actually kind of good. Not terrible, not wow, but pretty good. The way its supposed to be. I then moved on to eat a few fries. Very good fries, but they really have a seasoning that I could get in other BBQ joints, so I won't rave about them as much as I raved about the brisket, but the fries were pretty good. I lastly tried the wings. Now these wings aren't your B-Dubs (Buffalo Wild Wings) run-of-the-mill wings, these are smoked to perfection, and need napkins not for the sauce, but for the smoke. First off, they were very hot when I touched them, so I needed some time for them to cool off a little, but it wasn't long. Afterwards, I was in heaven. These were perfect seasoned and smoked to exact flavoring. I got about 6 of them before I couldn't finish. I was stuffed. I couldn't eat anything else except for 2 rolls, then I was down for the count. Food defeated me, for once. I really didn't want to bring any of it back with me to where I was staying, so I had to toss the leftovers, but I didn't want to walk out without buying a memento, so I got myself a t-shirt of the place to remind me of my stay, which was, of course, delicious. In short, next time, now that I know what's on the menu, I would get a pound of brisket and that'd be it. Nothing else. Oh, and this place is only open 4 days a week (Thu-Sun), but the food runs out quickly, so if you really want some good eats, order ahead, or go early!
