The meatball appetizer was microwaved and my Greek Stuffed Chicken entree was incredibly dry. I believe that their recipes are homemade and they do make everything there, however, it's not being made the day you go there and it is being reheated in a microwave. The only way to dry out meatballs that are stuffed with cheese and chicken that is stuffed with spinach and cheese is to put them in the microwave.

I contemplated writing a review since this is a busy place and we would prefer to keep it a secret. To sum this one up, the family that runs this are very personable and inviting. This IS NOT a place where you will eat or be served quickly. This is Greece and the experience is about enjoying the food and company. I think it is a culture thing that some of us are not used to. When we have been here (times), we have felt like family. The food is outstanding and the husband and wife make everything based on the table side conversations that we have had with them. Try the desserts and coffee to easily land this at a 5 star experience. This is Greek food so I say this is excellent if you love Greek food Prices are almost too little. My concern is that the prior place in this building went under and it was a renowned breakfast/lunch establishment. My fingers are crossed that this place makes it

Family owned and run this little Greek restaurant is a find in Downingtown great food great prices pleasant atmosphere and to top it off it's a BYOB. The cuisine is very authentic with the wife and husband doing the cooking in the back and their children performing the wait staff functions.

Visited yesterday for the first time and WOW! That is the Best Greek cuisine I have ever had, and I have had some great Greek food back home in NYC. The food at Grapevine is so very fresh! Family run with loving passion which shows. What a rare jewel to have right here in Downingtown! I'll be telling everyone how amazing it is and we'll be back often! xoxoxo

If Yelp had emoticons and I could use a picture of a snail, I would just sum up my experience with that. But since real words are encouraged I will say this about the service - it was very slow and kind of awkward. Don't get me wrong the server was very nice and he tried hard to offer a lot of information and suggestions but he really missed the mark in terms of communication skills, it just felt weird. The biggest plus at this place was the price. Got an appetizer, soup and two entrees for under $30. And the portion sizes weren't bad either. However, I was not blown away by the food and my expectations were much higher. I am not sure I'd go back for dinner but may try breakfast since it's so cheap.

Hands down the best Greek food I've had since being stationed on Crete in the 80's!! Completely authentic and amazingly delicious!!! My new favorite restaurant.

I went to this restaurant for the first time on Sunday, just myself and my boyfriend. It was hands down one of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. I felt comfortable and welcomed as soon as we walked in the door. The man that served us (younger guy, I didn't catch his name) made conversation and was genuinely nice, not the fake, scripted nice. It's BYOB, he offered to keep our 'extra' beer in the fridge for us. I asked for help deciding between appetizers, he recommended I go with the feta cheese saganaki. Good lord, that might have been the best thing I've ever eaten! He actually asked if we were ready for our soup/salad and entrees before bringing it out and shoving it on our faces all at once like most restaurants do these days. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. When we were done eating, they let us hang out for awhile and drink our beer, no pressure to get up and get out. The vibe at this place is so laid back. The service is great. The food is amazing. and the prices are good. I wish I could give them 10 stars instead of just 5.

What a find! Our first time to enjoy this local treasure was on a Sunday evening. We went with neighbors who have become friendly with the family who owns and runs the restaurant, because they go often to eat the wonderful Greek food. It is a byob. Parking can be a little tricky because the customers of Rita's take the parking spots for the restaurant, but you can find a parking lot across the street to use. We started with a sampler appetizer which was delicious and fun to share. We all ordered the Greek salad which also was yummy. The salad was really too large for the size of the plate. The entrees were delicious. I had the Grecian ravioli which had an amazing flavor. It was filled with feta and figs. The sauce was just right. The dessert selection was amazing so save room. We had a relaxed leisurely dinner with friends. The owner stopped often to chat. We will definitely be going back.

A great authentic and family greek place. Their octopus appetizer was great. Homemade meatballs. The burger was surprisingly good. All their sandwiches were excellent. A friendly service. When we are back in the area, a must eat place for our family.

Great experience. Wonderful staff, very friendly and appreciative of us coming to their restaurant. They took great pride in their food and how its made. They make it clear that their food is homemade and fresh and therefore takes time and quality. A true Mediterranean experience, unlike what those who have complained about the pace seemed to expect. Food was delicious. Spanakopita was excellent. First time having pastitsio. It was a great choice and excellent dish. Herb Pasta with mussels was great and definitely fresh. We will definitely be back to this great local spot in the heart of Downingtown!!

Went there on Mother's day, so it was crowded which somewhat excuses the slow service. (Yet you would think they could anticipate that and pull in a cousin or something.) We were there from 12:45 to 3:45. The server was kind of awkward at first, but attentive and sweet. That said, the food is amazing, everything we had was good. The tsatziki sauce was the best I've had. Everything really does seem to be homemade. The chicken rice soup with lemon was very good. The entrees we ordered were lobster ravioli, orzo, gyro sandwich, and pork chops. They were all good. The baklava was yummy.

The Grapevine continues to prove itself worthy of serving a wide array of delicious Greek traditional fare. Hearty portions and fair prices complete the picture. This is Greek food your Greek mother made for you - at least thats how I'd imagine it. Grilled octopus that I paired with fried feta on a pita. Sublime. A huge Greek salad with gyro meat, tarmosalota on the side. Greek meatballs - with a creamy feta interior, followed by Greek "veggie" meatballs that melt in your mouth. Top all that off with a selection of Greek traditional desserts- most of which I can't pronounce but your tastebuds Won't care about that- trustme. All this wrapped up in a BYOB and a comfortable meal pace. If you have a hankering, get yourself to the Greek.

Rip off for leg of lamb entree. Do not order. Came out as 3 small pieces sliced like deli meat. And the nerve to ask for $35.00? We didnt get anything else but beware that portion sizes in this establishment are an issue. Did not have any more rice pudding left for our little one but maybe that was a good sign. Not crazy about their thick, stale and cold pita bread.

Very authentic Greek food! Everything is homemade and delicious. Portions are huge and prices are really reasonable. The place (including restroom) is impeccably clean. Owners are friendly and very interesting to speak with. Will definitely return even though we don't live all that close by.

Grapevine Cuisine is incredible! Went there for the first time last night with my fiance. We live in Downingtown and have wanted to try it for some time. He never had Greek for before and was thoroughly impressed. The service was excellent as well. We ordered the spanikopita to start. I had the moussaka for dinner which came with my soup of choice for only $11. He got the lamb gyro and also got a soup on the side. The pricing for the quality of food is great. We will be going back and telling everyone we know to try this place.

Such a cool little spot. Very authentic Greek cuisine. Service was awesome- very friendly and informative but not too much. We did the sampler dips. The feta red pepper one was amazing! As were the other five. We then also split the mixed grill entrée. The lamb melted in your mouth. Chicken kabob was great. The hot sausage is hot but loved it. We didn't get dessert BC we were catching a movie, but we'll definitely be back. Also recommend making a reservation.

My husband and I loved the food at Grapevine. We started of with the veggie balls, they were excellent. He ordered a gyro and I ordered the chicken and orzo. Both were so good. They do take a while to come out, but well worth the wait. We liked the food so much we both got dessert. I got a chocolate with almond cookies dessert (I can't remember the name of it...) that was amazing. So. So. So good. My husband got the baklava. He was not disappointed. Overall, I highly recommend this place, so long as you're not in a hurry.

Fantastic, homemade Greek food. It takes a while, but it's worth the wait. And, it's nice to have a chance to unwind and enjoy the food and your dinner companion.

My wife and I have been wanting to go to the Grapevine for several months after reading the excellent restaurant review printed in the Daily Local. The only thing we were disappointed is that we waited so long to visit this restaurant. The food is classic Greek food made with simple, fresh ingredients that results in big flavor dishes. Everything is homemade and I felt like the hands of time were turned back and I was eating dinner at my Greek Aunt (Thia) Mary's house. Eating at the vine is not just a meal but an experience. Understanding greek culture and their love, no passion for food, family and sharing with others, eat here if you want to allow yourself the pleasure of this experience. The menu features choices that will satisfy everyone's palate from vegetarian to classic greek dishes. The atmosphere is calm, relaxing and inviting. The greek way is to enjoy the experience and not to rush you out to "turn the table over" with new customers. If you are looking to go to dinner with friends and family to enjoy a meal prepared to order, enjoy the time together, and feel the greek hospitality, then this is the place for you.

Grapevine! A wonderful BYOB, that features a menu that is house made each day! Luckily for me, I stopped in during off hours, the place was dead, as it was 1pm on a Saturday. I had a great experience as the owner was my server and he was...1. adorable 2. funny and 3. informative. -Side Note- There is a a broad selection for vegetarians, awesome and uncommon in the Downingtown area. I ordered the grape leaves dinner special. $12 got me a huge portion of grape leaves, Tzaziki with warmed pita (so so good) and a traditional Greek salad which was possibly prepared by Athena herself! My meal was abundantly flavored and the portion size provided me with leftovers! This place gets super busy on the weekends and reservations are a must. Meals are prepared and cooked as they are ordered so if you're looking for a quick meal, this isn't your place. My suggestion...come armed with a few bottles of wine, friends that aren't boring, a designated driver, and wait patiently for scrumptiously authentic Greek cuisine.

This is a great Greek BYOB in Downingtown! We've been here twice - the first night, they had lost electricity in part of the restaurant but they were still able to serve us, and it made for a unique experience! The restaurant is owned and operated by a Greek family. On our second visit, we got to talk to the father for a while as it was the end of the night, and he was telling us great stories about Greece - like we were good friends... made us feel very welcomed and comfortable. As for the food - it's fresh, authentic, homemade... all the things they advertise. I have liked everything I've tried so far. If you eat meat, the mixed grill gives you a variety and it's all very tasty. They do have small staff and make the food fresh, so it takes some time. I wouldn't recommend going when you are in a rush, but it's a great place for a nice night out when you have time for a leisurely and enjoyable dinner.

Local restaurant serving fresh food with a flair. Nice selection of vegetarian entrees. The spanokopita is uniquely prepared in a spiral (think cinnamon bun style) which increases the crispness and makes for an unusual presentation. Everything is uber fresh, prepared to order and served with a smile. Pretty decor with beautiful display of island pictures on a wide wall screen. Great food, excellent prices and BYOB. Authentic, delicious and needs multiple visits to try a variety of offerings. Can't wait to return.

Best Greek restaurant in the area imo. I would choose Grapevine over Estia Taverna 19/20. Everything we've had has been great. And they have some of the more traditional items missing from many Greek places today, like delicious avgolemono soup, the best tiropita (hard to even find tiropita outside of caterers) and spanakopita I've had made to order, a delicious authentic Greek salad, and can't leave out the best part... FRESH, HOMEMADE GREEK PASTRIES EVERY DAY!!! Pastries of a quality that can't typically be found outside of Greek fairs (and Greek booths at non-Greek fairs =P), in which all the Greek women bake at home for days in order to prepare. If you eat at Grapevine, or pick up and order, DO NOT miss ordering a few =)

It was my choice to try Grapevine Cuisine for my birthday dinner. My wife and son were not sure of trying a place new to us. All of us left as fans. The summary of our experience: food exceeded expectations for taste and quality; decor is nice; service is friendly, informative and not rushed. If you are seeking a fast dining experience, do not come here. This is a place for enjoying a dinner at leisurely pace. Knowing it was BYOB, we brought a bottle of wine which our server spied as we were seated and efficiently corked while retrieving glasses. We started by sharing Saganaki and Spanikopita. Our 25 year old son who was the most reluctant to try Greek food and "hates" spinach, grabbed more than his share of both appetizers and declared they were awesome and could not wait to see how the rest of the meal would turn out. None of us were disappointed with our entree choices. We were all members of the clean plate club and feeling fully satisfied. Because it was my birthday, we took the challenge of having dessert on a full belly. So good!!! A Baklava, Coconut Revani and Kormo provided the exclamation point for our dining experience. Final thoughts - save room for dessert and embrace the measured pace of old style family eating of carefully prepared food.

Texrock My wife and I are new to the area and have starting to check out the local restaurants. We tried this place Thursday night for dinner. Great experience. The waiter was the son of the owners, friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. We had the "sides" sampler as our appetizer, baba, hummus, taramosalata, tsatsiki, and two dips we'd never had before: a potato salad texture concoction with capers called Russian Salad and a dip with hot peppers and yogurt. All were delicious. My wife had osso bucco in tomato sauce as an entree, I had pastitsio. Both were excellent. Interestingly, the pastitsio was served on a bed of tomato sauce, which worked. Both sauces were excellent but different, the sauce with the pork was more tart, perfect for the pork while the sauce bed for the pastitsio was sweeter to work with the bechamel sauce. Oh, and the avgolemono soup was very good. We'll be back.

I will start the review stating that we ordered take out and did not dine in. So maybe that is why we had a bad experience. We ordered six appetizers- two mussels, shrimp, dolmas, htipti dip and the veggie balls. Neither the hubs nor myself could get over the portion size of the shrimp and mussels, they were both paltry and totally not worth the price. Each mussel app came with 3 mussels. That is a high mark up for 3 mussels, glad we got two! The shrimp was just as pathetic, they were salad shrimp smaller than my thumbnail and there were not many, maybe a half a dozen? The veggie balls were very good, but that was about the only thing I could stomach, everything else was saturated in oil, even the grape leaves. It's a shame, I was so excited to try the place. Other reviews stated the portion sizes were generous, but maybe b/c we did take out we got hosed? Never again.

What a pleasant surprise! We saw the positive reviews on Yelp, but we still were leery. It was lunchtime and we were ready for a good meal. Small, family run Greek restaurant. We were greeted warmly by the owner's sons. Menu was explained to us. Everything is homemade. We each ordered a small Greek salad and shared the Mixed Grill for 2. Even the sausage was homemade. The accompanying grilled pita and tzatziki sauce were perfect. We will return.

Slow service but exceptional food . Ok, so we were told by our server that the pace of the meal would be slow. I thought that was charming. We ordered an app and a bowl of soup to start. Not a crumb came out (including a server) for 75 minutes.

  • Lorianne R.

We went for lunch on my birthday on a Sunday afternoon. At first I thought it was slightly odd how much the owner/server/host stressed that homemade food takes time and it could be a while, but we were in no rush. We ordered the grape leaves with a side of tzatziki and both were phenomenal! Probably the best I've ever had. For entrees I had the Greek Salad with Chicken Souvlaki (charred to perfection) and my husband had the beef and lamb Gyro Sandwich with fries. Everything was great...no complaints! Fries seem like a simple food but they were cooked to a perfect crisp. I also thought that while it certainly wasn't "fast food", it came out in a reasonable amount of time and they probably overstressed the wait. Don't come in a rush but if you're there to enjoy a meal out come to relax. I can't wait to go back and try the Grilled Octopus next time!

Sorry but didn't even get a chance to see the menu! We walked in early on a Friday night only two tables were occupied the waitress talking to the table by the door. We didn't get any greeting as we stood by the door, the waitress didn't even turn around to acknowledge us. Then she left to go to the kitchen leaving us stranding at the door! Ok so decided to seat ourselves but no one came out to greet us so after a few minutes we got up and left. Service was questionable before but now non existent on this night. Please hire more non family members to help run the business!

Amazing!! : Newly opened Greek spot in Downingtown It doesn't look like much from the outside, awkward parking, in an off beat section of town. Family run and tiny. Large screen TV playing scenes from Greece ;) To-go window in the foyer. Split level seating. But...the food was great! Better that great. Everything is homemade, even the rice in the dolmas ($4.50, serving of 5). We ordered pork Souvlaki ($8.50 served with FF) and Spanikopita ($7.50 served with soup or salad), Babaganoush ($3.50), and Galactoboureko ($3.50 this is a homemade dessert involving pudding and phyllo). I probably botched the spelling on everything, but don't let it dissuade you from giving this place a try. It's BYOB, which is always refreshing. Lets be honest, we know what we like in the wine department. The Spanikopita is spiral shaped which was pretty unique! Also the eggplant spread was super garlicky, and almost tasted like there was feta in it. Wow. My fiancé gobbled down his Souvlaki, before I could sample the Tzaziki...but...he proclaimed it good after I got salty at him for not sharing!! In summary, it's a quiet place with linen tablecloths that serves delicious home made Greek food that won't even remotely break the bank. We went on a nasty rainy Thursday and there were 3 other tables. read less

After reading the reviews on Yelp we decided to try this restaurant. Being vegetarian makes it hard to find somewhere to eat with more than 2 options. This is a family owned business. The son who waited on us was very helpful. He started off by explaining everything is made fresh and a majority made to order. With this said he mentioned sometimes it can take a bit longer to receive our food, more so when they are busy. I had read this but the food options and freshness of the food outweighed this by 10 fold! I was so pleased we gave this place a shot. The service was excellent and friendly. You could tell they took pride in their food. Every meal comes with soup or salad. We started with a white bean soup which was vegetable based. It was flavorful and hearty but not too much so that you couldn't enjoy your main course. My girlfriend and I shared our entrees. The spanakopita was wonderful. Light and fluffy with the right amount of filling. I appreciated the way it was made unlike others I have tried as it came out in a spiral twist. Enough to share. I had one of the specials, goat cheese and artichoke stuffed ravioli with a fresh marinara sauce. There was a nice balance of goat cheese and it wasn't overpowering. If I had made this I would have added either some Greek olives or additional artichokes to the sauce to add a bit more flavor. Towards the end of our meal they really started to get busy and it did take a bit longer to get dessert and our check but we were prepared based on the introduction. The baklava was pretty good. I wasn't to keen on the syrup used as I prefer honey but overall it was well done. Overall I would give this restaurant an A and definitely go back. The freshness of the food and options were great. I am pleased with the cost as it is hard to eat out anymore without spending an arm and leg. This was a fabulous value.

Great food, great atmosphere, great family. The family takes care of you personally and we had a great dinner conversation with the owner about Greece. Food was very good and we'll definitely be back.

This place has great food but the staff are pretty awkward. Last time they were almost full (had a couple open tables) and they didn't seem to want more people to come in. They sat us after warning us that the food would be a little while, which was fine, but the whole time it just seemed like they were trying to get us to eat somewhere else. When we got the food it was delicious, it was just a strange experience to get there.

My grandson wanted Greek food so we decided to give it a try. Being a picky eater we were a little hesitant as to his liking it. He loved it, said he would eat there everyday. My daughter, husband and I agreed wholeheartedly. Had the best dolmodes ever. We all loved our main courses. Looking forward to our next visit in a week for some fresh fish. We live in NJ but we would jump in the car for a lunch here anytime.
