The outdoor seating is very nice. It does get pretty busy sometimes. The menu could have more selection because you look at it and #1 NO TAMALES!? And #2 most of the stuff isn't even Mexican what is this a MEXICAN restaurant or a diner? And #3 the dry tortilla chip bowl you get for your salad tastes like old feet. :s. But, the nachos are good and the gourmet fried chili chorizo taco I got was delicious and super spicy. French fries are also good too. Servers are always prompt and friendly. My recommendation would be to go down there for wing night and get the number 10 fire sauce, it'll blow your socks off!

Just had lunch here. Outdoor dining is nice and the reason for two stars instead of one. The food is mediocre at best and prices are way too high for what you get. I wouldn't go back.

The food was really good. The seafood burrito was awesome. The chips are on the thick side, i'd prefer lighter chips. The seating is reminiscent of eating in someone's basement and very loud

First time here, got $5 off for checking in on yelp .. Great start!!! Had the chips/salsa for an app. We both had the Steak with rice and Salsa sauce. Steak was cooked perfect and tasted excellent. Tried the house dressing for the salad. If was an apple cider vinaigrette. Had a pretty good taste. No room for dessert. Atmosphere was nice, service was great, food was great. We will be back for sure. It is a nice spin on Mexican.

If my only complaint about a restaurant is the paucity of parking, then it is a great restaurant, and better than the other Mexican restaurants in Hazleton. Safer too, by the look of them. This is our second trip, and this time I tried the Fajita Salad, available with steak or portobello mushrooms. The servers are very attentive, the rooms cozy, and the all important attitude very positive and welcoming.

I have to give the buckle 4 stars. I've never had a bad meal here. The salad with house dressing is delish. Ceviche is fantastic. Salsa is a little too thin for me, but hey I can't name a restaurant that doesn't need remove to improve. And I happen to really like their margarita sampler.. :)

This place is an old favorite of my family's and mine. Have been going there for years. Over the last maybe three years it's gone way downhill though. It's still a great atmosphere and the food is good, but the prices are outrageous for what you get and the service is pretty crappy (with the exception of a newer waitress, don't know her name but she's tall with glasses. She's awesome). My husband and I went a few months ago and she waited on us and the experience was great. I ordered buffalo portabellas which aren't on the menu anymore but they did make them for me, which is a big plus in their favor. I also got the seafood enchilada meal (very good also!) plus a couple margaritas (love their margaritas!). My husband got just an entree and two drinks as well. Our bill was over $85 with a tip. Outrageous for what it is. It was a shock when we saw the bill. But because I LOVE their buffalo portabellas and their buffalo shrimp, AND their margaritas, we of course went back a few weeks ago. This time the good waitress was serving the patio. But alas, we sat inside. The waitress we got was no less than horrible. Once we finished our drinks we were waiting for our food which took a while (no big deal, it's nice to sit and relax...with a DRINK!) but she never once came over to ask if we wanted another. I figured she'd ask when she served us our meals, but nope. She literally threw mine down and walked away. So I went to move and turn the plate, and burned my hand...it was scalding hot! No, "be careful, it's hot" from our fine waitress. I finally got her attention and we ordered a couple more cocktails. But she didn't once come over to see how we were doing. I'm really not nitpicky, but she was just awful. And most of their servers have been pretty bad the last say, 3-4 years. Just super slow and not very attentive. I almost feel like telling them when I go in, "don't let me have an empty glass and you'll get a huge tip". Would that motivate them? I wonder. So in conclusion I say the food at the Brass Buckle is good but the service and the prices, not so good. If you could whistle past the cost and the service, you may enjoy it.

Had a very nice time. The Brass Buckle is a small quant restaurant. The service is was fast and friendly. We had the stuffed avacado. I would have to recommend them. Very yummy. Our main course was also very good. I would have liked a little spice to the meal. So next time we go I will ask for it to be spicier.

I have been here many times over the years and today was first in a few years. I enjoyed the food previously, but times have changed for the worse. Chips and salsa were descent. Service was good. Food was really awful. I had what the menu called a burrito. I have had way better frozen burritos from the grocery store. This burrito was a small tortilla with some crumbled chicken and cheese. It was cold with no taste. I think it came with black beans and rice, which looked and tasted more like rice-a-roni. The wine selection and margaritas are below average. I'm not really sure what my wife had. I would not venture a taste. Overall this was a real disappointment.

Well this was my first time and last time eating here. Not sure who thought of carrots in the salsa but truly disgusting. Also my quesadilla came with olives in it and lettuce added. It was so stuffed they couldn't even cut it into slices. I ended up having to return it to have the olives removed and forced to eat it like a gigantic fried taco. The sangria I ordered was overpriced and nothing but a Shirley temple with wine added. Not sure what everyone is raving about Mexican in the valley but I personally will wait till I'm in philly.

I've been at the Brass Buckle several times. Always great service and fantastic food. One of my favorite appetizers, Buffalo Buckle chips & Blue Cheese. The variety of the menu is great! Great atmosphere, great prices. There's something for everyone's taste. If you haven't been there yet, you need to try it!!!! Sami D.

I lived in California for many years and of course you can't compare mexican food from there to here, but I have had good mexican food here in PA, I won't name names, I'm not for free advertisement. I don't know where to start, hum, the food took forever, the "house dressing" is salsa and italian dressing, which i didn't like, the fajitas where greasy and with no rice or beans, the carne asada didn't have flavor, on and on.. I want to give it a second chance but I see that I'm not alone here when I say don't waste your money.

Dear Mike H. The reason why this is a supposed favorite is because it was voted that way by the owner him/herself!!! I can make better Mexican food than that at home, and I'm not even a cook!!! I threw my food away at the 2nd chew, I don't remember the last time I had such an experience at a restaurant! Their enchilada sauce tasted like a watered down version of Chef Boyardee sauce. This is the 3rd website I've written a review on about this joke of a restaurant. I've never gone through so much work to put the word out there, believe me, just read my reviews on other restaurants!!! I'm mad that I'm forced to award them ONE star!!!!

We eat at the Brass Buckle 3-4 times per month and the food is fantastic. We have eaten at various Mexican Restaurants throughout the United States and the Brass Buckle is one of our favorites. My personal favorite is the Sirloin Combo but I substitute a beef burrito for the beef enchilada. The nachos grande and seafood nachos are an excellent choice as an appetizer. We had my sons christening party and my parents anniversary party in the upstairs dining room and they did great job with a large and diverse guest list. If you are looking for great food, a cozy atmosphere and good times the Brass Buckle is the place to go.

The restaurant appears to be in the basement of a house, however it is clean and nicely decorated. Food seemed pricey for what you end up getting. It was good, but more americanized mexican than I was expecting. Employees were friendly. Should have worn a sweater, the air conditioner was on and it is quite chilly!

Well I read the previous review so I was a little wary. And I'm from California, so I have had pretty good Mexican food, and I had set my expectations for Conygham, PA. But even so... The server was perfectly nice. We went with kids that were 2, 5, and 7 and they really were able to accommodate them quite well. They ended up having spaghetti and essentially chicken nuggets with curly fries. The spaghetti actually looked pretty good, being prepared with angel hair pasta. The service was pretty slow, I mean it was not very full but seemed to take forever for the food to come out. Anyways, back to us. We had their drink specialty which was a margarita with sangria which we were assured you could not get anywhere else. There is probably for a reason for that, it was OK but nothing special. The chips that we got with guac were pretty good actually, though the guac was nothing special. I got the carne asada with a salad (having been frightened by the previous review of the fajitas). The salad was actually reasonable (I mean if you overlook the iceberg lettuce, but this is small town PA). The house dressing was quite nice, a sort of combination salsa and italian dressing. The most scary part for me though was the entrée, it reminded me of that weird red-sauced spanish rice you got from a box, served with a nicely cooked steak (they asked how I wanted it cooked) smothered with a, well I don't know how to describe it, some sort of sauce. It does not resemble any other carne asada I have never had. And there were a couple pretty oily flour tortillas. It was just barely OK. The best part was the meat itself. But after I had that I could not wait to get out of there. I appreciate funky places and odd interpretations of foreign food found in small towns. I think of of the strengths of the places is it's quite a local hangout with a crowd of regulars. The decor is also pretty amazingly funky, and I have heard that coming in October leading up to Halloween is something special. I might actually go back if I find myself in Conyngham again, but I will not expect anything Mexican. I actually had the leftover spaghetti and meatballs that the kids got and it was pretty good.

I cannot believe this is considered a Mexican restaurant. It's more like a "Mexican inspired" American restaurant. There is not one Mexican working there. The food was awful and maybe its because I was expecting "Mexican". I had chicken tacos. The chicken was grilled and cubed. Not shredded in sauce like I'm used to. The tortilla was stuffed with lettuce, cheese, and some kind of topping (salsa I think). I'm almost positive I tasted pickles. I agree with Mike H. The only reason it could have been rated a favorite is because there aren't many restaurants around this area.

Can not believe that I'm the first to rate this restaurant since supposedly this has been the local Mexican favorite for several years. It's apparent that the folks in PA don't get out of the area much if this is one of the "top" favorites. Hmmm or maybe it was the fact that I was a party of one in a plaid flannel shirt, jeans and work-boots. No wait I'm in PA. Anyway, this was simply okay. The atmosphere was better than the food. The dining area is basically in the basement of an old house with the kitchen upstairs. It was rather interesting watching the "cook" run the food down and the orders back up. Probably why it took FOREVER to get my food, let alone the three years it took to get my order. Had the chicken fajita which is served with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, home made salsa, sour cream, guacamole and two tortillas folded on a plate. The chicken is grilled and then cut into strips and added to grilled onions and peppers. The whole thing was somewhat swimming in oil and didn't have much fajita flavor/seasoning. It wasn't the worst nor the best, basic middle road. Guess it's PA sense of Mexican. No rice, no beans came with the fajita. There was a dinner salad that came with the dinner. An interesting concept. You had a choice of high calorie dressings, no low-cal food here in this section of the US. The salad was also topped with the homemade salsa, which I guess was the way to add tomatoes. I only wish that they hadn't put the entire core of the lettuce into the bowl, I really don't like the rabbit chewing on white lettuce core. Other than that, the salad was tasty and I was able to get the Italian off to the side. Not sure if it was home made, either way it was separating and was basically veggie oil with a hint of seasoning. I ordered guacamole and chips as an appetizer and was interested to find out that both items were ala carte separately. Mexican without the usual chips & salsa at the table?? Again, guess it's a PA thing. The guac appeared to be homemade, it was fair. I personally think my wife makes guacamole 1000x better. Oh well, the joys of travel. On a positive side, the beer was cold and tasty. Bottom line, I really won't put this place on my "return list" and really don't see how this place has been voted a "favorite". But, then again, this is Hazleton, PA where the dining options are rather limited and narrow, unless you're the king or queen of fast-food.

great place to hang out in a group or go with someone special for a relaxing night. Gary is a great chef!!! I don't know what these other people are talking about!!! I am not a fan of facebook and do not have an account, I wish the specials were posted in the Standard Speaker instead of me having to call!

horrible. we came in at 1 pm on saturday. only one party of four was there and yet super slow service. it took us 20 min to get a salad that was half lettuce, half cheese. another 25 - 30 min and our entrees came out. tell me, what kind of quesadilla comes with a salad inside. it looked likethe house salad i just had inside a wrap, somewhat folded in half. ok... not what i expected. and chicken asada? try, bland chicken cubes. salsa came on the side. very dismaying to see chopped carrots inside. and it was all cold. no excuse for the slowww service. it's all edible... just set your expectations, it's sure not on par with a taco bell. if you have to go, id recommend the corona.

Being from California this was okay. But still very delicious. I had the beef and cheese enchiladas. I wish they had steak but beef was okay. I would reccommend that they'd serve black beans instead of refried. It's more authentic and all the Mexican restaurants in Cali do that. If I had to compare this restaurant to my favourite restaurant in Cali, it would be up to par but for this area it was pretty yummy.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
