Great food! Inexpensive but wonderful. Ask for Dana as your server, then tip her well. She is the best waitress I have had in years!

We eat at The Italian Oven every once in awhile. They have a really nice menu with lots of selections. Their Italian food is great, as is their pizza. The service is usually really good, and the prices are right.

This place was actually pretty good! On the way home from viewing the leaves in the laurel highlands...side note (a wife thing...it sucks and its gonna take all Saturday.) Actually not that bad, ohiopyle was beautiful. I love SW PA. Anyhow, Arrived at about 2pm and was great immediately by a very nice waitress. This women really had a great knowledge of the menu and to be quite frank let us know about every thing we ordered. Which was fried zuchinni, a medium pepperoni pizza and a small hoagie. Everything was very tasty and quick. The price for all this was right around $26 before the tip. As quick, friendly, inexpensive and tasty as this experience was, I can recommend this place to anyone.

Let's talk positives. - You step in and instantly the smell from the kitchen invades the nostrils. A good sort of invasion (READ: opposite of bay of pigs) - Their menu is diverse and has plenty of options for both those hungry or peckish, carnivore or herbivore. Lots of staples. Delicious staples. - The food itself was great. I had the meat lasagna and loved every bit of it. Opinions from the rest of the table were similar. - Service was great! Our waiter had some massive arms. The kind that could give Popeye a sweat in arm wrestling. The kind that could carry some serious plates of food. He was courteous and accommodating when trying to understand some of our more foreign dining members. The restaurant doesn't serve root beer floats but did his best to come up with one for another of our party. Our food came out quickly. Even when the last of our party joined (20 min late) his order went in, his food came out quickly, and he was finished before I even had time to notice. - Finally, as much love as I have for Connellsville, let's be honest - this place is small. There's not much of a commercial district, and thus not much incentive for Italian Oven to really step it up; but they do! Negatives? This is harder. I suppose they could use more parking (maybe)

Great place for lunch and the food was very good (reasonably priced). As stated in other reviews, this is the only remaining Italian Oven, so the owner is frequently there. They suffer in two areas, not enough wait staff (although we didn't have problems on this particular day) and place could use a remodelling. It isn't quaint, just old and a little dirty. Work especially needs to be done in the entrance area.

ok so this place might be my parents' favorite restaurant ever, so we come here a lot. it's pretty good, it really is, but it's not the best italian place i've ever been to. maybe it's because i'm worn out of italian oven and feel like i've exhausted their menu already. but i do have some favorites (the garlic bread appetizer, fried zucchini appetizer, and red pepper ravioli) that i really love. the service is usually pretty good and the prices are pretty reasonable. it's not the cleanest place ever, but for a small italian diner in connellsville, it's not too bad.

Have been here over the years, was here most recently last week. Service was friendly and relaxed--they serve their bevs in Ball Jars which is awesome. Servings are generous with salad and good bread, and with more love than an Olive Garden...if you're here, try it.

What a fabulous surprise! We were up in Ohiopyle, rafting with some friends, and came back to our motel to clean up before getting dinner. We were at a loss about where to eat - there were quite a few restaurants back in Ohiopyle, but that was a 30 minute drive away and we were all ravenous. So we checked yelp and Italian Oven was the clear winner there. We weren't sure what to expect, but it was terrific! The portions were hearty (which was much appreciated after a day of activity!), the service was excellent, the prices are pleasingly low, and the food was top notch. Our waitress brought us the always-free herb bread plus a complimentary order of garlic bread along with our drinks. The garlic bread was not what we expected; it was more like a white pizza with garlic. It was delicious though, with a delightfully crisp crust (and not overly-cheesy or greasy at all.) All of us had pasta entrees and every one was perfectly cooked and delicious. The entrees come with a side salad, and the restaurant has a pretty awesome selection of dressings. Most of us were way too full for dessert, but a couple of troopers ordered the cheesecake. I tried a bite and wow! Such good cheesecake! It was light and fluffy, with a little bit of a citrus-y flavor. The next time we're in the area, we'll definitely be back. I am very curious about the pizza, after sampling their garlic pie, and this time, I'll save room for a piece of that cheesecake!

Ugh. I either hit them on ANOTHER off day or they have seriously declined. It really pains me to not give this place a higher rating -- I like the people who own this place. They are ALWAYS there and it always looks like they are working hard. But man, today was bad. We got there at 3 pm. Throughout the course of our time there, there were maybe 8 tables. Some where there before us, some came in after. All I can tell you is - our service was polite, but poor. My salad plate was never cleared, our drinks sat empty for 10 minutes. Nobody checked to see how the food was. Nobody brought us a check, offered dessert, or to go boxes -- it was pretty miserable. It appeared our waitress was waiting on ALL the tables -- but PLENTY of people were just standing around. In terms of the food: Pizza fries were good this time! The bread was good. The salad was ok. The calzone was pretty meh, but saved by the sauce in was served with (which was good). The pasta and greens was horrific. I can't tell you how the mac and cheese was, as they were out. Really what stands out to me was the pasta and greens it was on their special "spring menu". My noodles (which were to be linguini according to the menu, but I was give angel hair, which I don't like at all) were absolute mush. The spinach was very clearly from a box (there is no excuse for that -- it takes 2 minutes to wilt spinach and it is in season this time of year), the garlic -- there was lots of little diced pieces of garlic and yet -- nothing tasted like garlic. That pretty much only happens if you are using a pre-chopped product that is old. So, there's that. Ugh, I'm just going to stop now. I hate to say "don't come here" because even at its worst it is still probably better than any other place in Connellsville, but it's really not ok "A-ok": Also they gave us each 3 menus a person! 3! They seriously need to edit offerings and focus on quality.

A couple of friends and I dropped by this lovely place for lunch after biking about 60 miles. Even though we were in our biking clothes, they were super friendly. The food was delicious. For an app, we ordered the Bruschetta which was fresh and tasty; we devoured it in no time. I ordered a meat trio with a red sauce which was great. My friends order the vegetable and chicken dish which came highly recommended from the waitress. They loved it and didn't leave a scrap on their plates. That staff was so kind and they even filled all 6 of out water bottles with cold water before we left. This place is a short ride away from the bike trail and I'd highly recommend coming here for a nice lunch. There is no bike rack so we place our bikes in front of a window which was in our line of sight.

The Stromboli is the bomb.com !! But those jars of old veggies they have for decor are nasty :(

The booth we we're seated in was quite dirty from the people before us, no one made an attempt to clean it off. A glance under the table revealed a plethora of salad and other various food items which was rather disgusting. The spaghetti and especially the sauce were a bit on the watery side. I did however enjoy the bread sticks, but I couldn't imagine ever wanting to come back.

Highly recommended by a local. Did not disappoint! We had portobello and a meat lasagna. Portobello filled with large slices of mushroom and a white sauce. Meat one had meat sauce and a huge meatball. Fresh salad. Good bread. Homemade soups.

Great food and service! The waiter was quick with answers about how the food was prepared. They were very accommodating to my food allergies. Only 4 stars because the decor is a little worn around the edges. Everyone's food was delicious. My dad raved about the Tiramisu!

You have found one of the Last authentic Italian Oven restaurants! Owned and operated independently by the Miller family this restaurant has every example of pride in excellence. From the minute you walk in the door you become family. This is an establishment built on service, and decorated by charm. Something is to be said for family owned restaurants in that they lend an atmosphere unobtainable in large corporate franchises. My suggestion is the house special steak... I get it every time for a reason. The salads here are fantastic and are included with all dinner entrees... Just make sure to ask for Andrew and tell him Ryan sent you!

Oh Italian Oven. What a delight. There used to be several of these restaurants in the area, but sadly, business declined and this is the last good one left. There are a few others in western PA, but the menus are different and they all suck compared to the REAL Italian Oven, I've checked. So do your duty to Connellsvillians who have limited restaurant choices and keep this gem alive. There are many great things about this restaurant, I shall list them: 1. You can draw on the tables! Well, you can draw on the paper covering the tables. Makes any wait time go by super fast. Crayons are provided. The waitresses are very considerate and ask if it's okay before putting your plate on top of your masterpiece. 2. The staff is very friendly and service is consistently good. 3. THE BREAD. When you order an entree, you get an Italian loaf for the table and my goodness is it incredible. And they'll keep it coming if you ask nicely. 4. The food is excellent. My all time favorite is the Roasted Red Pepper Sausage Ravioli. It's all I get anymore although I've tried much of the menu. It's the dish I always come back to. The creamy roasted red pepper sauce to that dish is the most amazing thing ever. You can get sausage or cheese ravioli, but either one will make you happy. It's all about the sauce. I also highly recommend their pizza if you like a thin crust. It's crunchy and delicious, with an interesting cornmeal coating on the bottom. Also notable is the fried zucchini appetizer. It's not at all greasy, the breading is delicious, and it comes with a horseradish sauce and a chunky marinara. Sprinkle with a little parm cheese and dig in, you're in for a treat. 5. There's a window in the back of the restaurant that looks right into the kitchen area near where they have the brick ovens. Send your kids over to put their hand on the glass, and as soon as a kitchen worker sees them, they'll come over to the glass to trace their hand with a marker and write their name in the handprint. It's really cute. However, they don't like doing it for adults. Lol. So there are a few great reasons to support a small town institution that puts out some amazing Italian. It's not too fancy, but if you're looking for a good dinner, Italian Oven won't disappoint!

Had dinner Saturday with friends. I have never had a bad experience here. Food is always good. Had the pasta with chicken and vegetables with the marinara sauce. There was plenty for dinner the next day. The warm bread is very good. My friend had the lasagna which was also very good. We were too full for dessert but next time we are going to try the tiramisu. Parking is the only bad thing when it is busy.

Ravioli was delicious. Don't overfill on the bread. Skip the salad. Go straight to the ravioli.

Would recommend The Italian Oven to anyone eating in Connellsville and if you have a choice, ask for Tony to be your server; he made our experience memorable. We are from the center of good Italian food, New Jersey, and we asked the owner of the B n' B where we were staying for a recommendation. We were not disappointed with his suggestion, in fact, we were delighted! My sausage-stuffed raviolis had a nice spice to them that melded well with the red pepper sauce. My wife was very happy with her "Fresh as a Breeze" a penne with tomatoes, mozzarella and basil dish. The highlight of this dining experience was recommended by Tony; fried zucchini. I am not crazy about zucchini, but this was absolutely delicious! Seriously, it was tender, tasty and titillating to the tongue. I would return to The Italian Oven just for a large order of this wonderful, very lightly breaded, fried zucchini.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
