The food was delicious! We looked for a restaurant on yelp. And the reviews for Benny's looked good. We were not disappointed. We had: *Fried Calamari: it was tender and cooked perfectly. Freshly cut and fried, not frozen, not rubber-bands. The sauce was seasoned well. *Shrimp Alfredo: it was also tender and cooked perfectly. The sauce was delicious and the pasta was cooked just right. *Shrimp Parmesan: Again the shrimp was tender. The sauce was a rustic sauce with chopped tomatoes and fresh basil. The tomatoes were so sweet. Loved the sauce. *Garlic Bread: on a rustic Italian loaf. And delicious! *Cannoli: as good as Little Italy in NYC!!

The service was excellent and the food was pretty good. I got the fries and pizza and I must say I greatly enjoyed both the venue, food, and service. Would come again.

Best food in Chambersburg. Good service to boot. Pizza that Italy would be proud of. Calamari is a must. Benny's specials are always a hit. Soup is always good for a fall warm up. Martha makes you feel like an old friend.

We were doing work on my dads house which was near Benny's. we had lunch there three days in a row. All our meals were great and the service was even better. Order the cheese steak. The bread is home made and very different than an average sub roll. AND they aren't greasy at all. The prices are very reasonable, and with a Burger King just next door, Benny's was the better value. Next time I go to Chambersburg ,it's Benny's all the way.

I moved to Chambersburg from Hazleton in 2004. I grew up with good mom-and-pop pizzerias. (I hate chains like pizza hut and dominoes) The first thing I wanted to do was find a new pizza place. My wife and in-laws live near Benny's and when I'd come to visit (when my wife and I were dating) we would get pizza take-out from Benny's every Sunday. After we were married, we would continue to get pizza (or subs) every Sunday. We even joked that we helped Benny build his new sign. We don't eat in as much as we take out, but the times I've eaten in the dining room have been pleasant. The staff was always nice to us and accommodating to families.

Not sure why this place is still open. My friend recommended this place as one of her favorites. I did not share that opinion. The food was overpriced. My family got pizza it was soggy and just unedible. I got a salad that was watered down and greasy. We called ahead and still had to wait, but the place was empty. We waited about 1 hr for a cheese pizza and a chef's salad. The guy that rung up the order was rude and just clueless. Will NEVER return-too many other good pizza places in the area!

I'm sorry to rain on Benny's parade, but the lunch we had there on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2010, was very disappointing. We picked Benny's because of Yelper's reviews, but now I'm wondering, did we eat at the same restaurant? For instance, it was a good fifteen minutes after we ordered that we saw our salads and bread. I read a lot about how wonderful the bread is, but this is pizza dough, baked in loaf-like pillows. Ours wasn't browned or crusty at all. Just soft, salty, and, well, bland. As for the salads, they were iceberg lettuce with hothouse tomato slices, onions and radish slices. Cold and crisp, which is good, but certainly nothing to write home about. What shocked me was the entree. It's supposed to be an Italian restaurant, so I ordered spaghetti and sausage, but what arrived in a bowl looked like more like spaghetti soup. Fat, water-logged noodles jn watery sauce. But the worst was the "sausage." What passes as sausage at Benny's are thin, pepperoni-like slices of faux sausage, bland stuff designed to be put on top of a pizza. It was not the link of Italian sausage I expected. I don't know how any self-respecting Italian restaurant could put out a dish like that and call it spaghetti and sausage, but apparenty, Benny's does. As for my wife's chicken parmigiana, she literally had to drain the water off the plate onto her salad plate before she could proceed to eat it, and she left most of the spaghetti untouched. This wasn't good food. We should have sent both dishes back, but I just couldn't do that to the young man who served us. But here, the gloves are off.

My parents took me here after a long hike in the nearby mountains. This place is little and unassuming, but it is surprisingly good! The service was very professional and the decor was nice. I didn't expect too much from the food, and I was ravenously hungry, but I was really nicely surprised. An artichoke and roasted red pepper pizza with mushrooms was about the best pizza I ever had on a thin, fresh crust. Too bad the leftovers ended up on the floormat of my car as some jerk pulled out in front of me on the way home. Oh well, just another reason to visit Benny's again soon!

I had a meatball sub and it was good (a little gooey). I started off with a mixed green salad -- nothing spectacular but it was fresh (the not so spectacular part was the packaged dressing). I would return because the pizzas looked good (despite some of the other reviews) and I would like to try them for myself. Our service was fast and efficient. The restaurant is clean and was doing some brisk busines.

Very good food I had the calamari and it was cooked perfectly. My meal was the Spaghetti your way (Garlic and Olive Oil) My waitress was very knowledgeable and very attentive. Definitely will return.

Good place to go for lunch if you're on the East side of Chambersburg. It's usually crowded, so don't expect to get in and out super quickly, but the wait is usually worth it! I've taken several work associates here, and the food has been consistently good. Nothing fancy, but solid choice for sandwiches, salads, pizza, etc.

Well, I now have a "favorite" Italian restaurant. When you drive by Benny's you wouldn't think it's anything special. But, we've been noticing, as we drive by on the way home on many occasions, the parking lot is always full. When we stopped in last night for the first time to check it out, I asked the server how long they've been opened and he said about 10 years! I was surprised, because we've lived in the area for five and have never noticed Benny's until recently. Apparently there has been a "make-over" and the name was changed from Benny's Pizza to just ole' Benny's. Also a bit of refurbishing. It appears to be housed in an old convenience store. At any rate, this is a great place to come if you want good Italian food and good service. It's small, but decorated tastefully, and very clean. Service was top notch from the greeter to the waiter, to Benny himself. I was so full when I left that I didn't think I'd need to eat again for a week! Husband got the spaghetti with meatballs and sausage. The menu lets you choose "Spaghetti Your Way" and gives choices such as with mushroom, garlic and olive oil, Alfredo and clam, clam, tomato, and the meat stuffs. He was pleased and full as well. I got the eggplant parmigiana and it was prepared precisely like I like it. The spaghetti sauce that came with my side of spaghetti was awesome. The sauce in a little different than you typical sauce. I can't put my finger on it, but I like it. Benny's also had an extensive "specials" menu and had some things I'd love to try some time. We also had an appetizer of fried calamari. I guess you could say I'm a calamari snob. I just don't want a hunk of breaded gunk, and lots of times I'm disappointed in the calamari around here. Our server said when we ordered, "this will be the best calamari you've ever eaten." My husband said, we've had some pretty good calamari, it will have to be pretty good. Well, it was positively fantastic... lightly breaded with just the right amount of flavor and a great tomato dipping sauce. I only wish there had been LOTS more of it! (The serving size was fine--I just liked it!) Our server was awesome and kept checking back to make sure we were ok. He told us he was sure we'd be back because everyone loves Benny's so. It was crowded--though he said not as crowded as usual for a Friday night.... the recession maybe? We even got to meet Benny. Prices were reasonable too! And they have carry-out. So definitely two customers will be going back to Benny's to check it out again. One word of warning: If you are headed west on route 30 to get there, it's a pretty treacherous turn as the on-coming traffic doesn't seem like it will ever let up. I recommend the back entrance off Briar Road if you are familiar with the roads around here.

I have enjoyed this restaurant over and over again for many years! The food has always been excellent. Their own baked bread for the cheesesteaks and subs is amazing! I have always had very friendly servers to take care of any requests. Definitely a place I'd recommend to everyone.

We loved Benny and Martha's restaurant. The pizza is chewy and delicious, and the lasagna was simmering in a lovely flavorful sauce. We especially enjoyed the pasta fajoli soup that was light and in a delightful broth. Also the antipasti rustica was really, really good. Yum.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
