Quick stop to get a take out sandwich. Great menu and delicious turkey and avocado sandwich packaged well for the car. I would go back!

Guess what? Change isn't always a good thing. First of all, the Candlewyk use to have the best wings around. Well in plain English, they suck now. The so called 'hot' sauce is less than mild and there is barely any on the wings. They used to be coated, delicious, and messy, how wings are suppose to be. When I came here for the first time a year or two ago, I ordered a chicken cheese steak, it was great. Well I ordered a buffalo chicken steak tonight and it was awful. The chicken was in large cubes like it should be on a salad and the 'buffalo' part was just some sauce thrown on at the end. The chicken should be chipped. There was way too much cheese to the point where it was disgusting. The owners need to get around their heads that they do not own a fancy five star restaurant. No one who comes to the Candlewyk expects fancy, expensive, food. The wyck is a PUB! Burgers, cheesesteaks, sandwiches, the menu is too large as it is now, and the quality is suffering. The staff is awesome and sadly they are riding the storm as the wyck goes through a devastating patch of so called 'exciting change' Go back to the old way of things and I assure you no one will be disappointed. Just read some of your yelp and Facebook reviews and you will see I'm not the only one.

Honest review. Burgers are always burnt on one side raw on the other. Every single time. Pizza is bland and sandwiches are just OK. Wings are the best around hands down.

Had been wanting to check this place out. Stopped by for a beer and perhaps something to eat the other day after work. The Candlewyck left no impression on me whatsoever, other than its definitely not the place for me. The tap selection was mediocre. Service was mediocre. Ambiance was dreary. Wasn't feeling brave enough to try the food menu for fear that almost everything came off a freezer truck. It seems to me it's just a tired old dive bar.

Seems to be slipping - revamped menu but they are over reaching. Nachos a complete disaster (old chips, canned chese, canned salsa etc), service weird ( hit or miss) - When I commented the nachos were not to great the server said ,"Well they can't be that bad your are eating them..." WUT? Yankee Pot roast (what I got) is NOT the same as Braised Short RIb( What I ordered) - I questioned the legitimacy of the mashed potatoes - they claimed they are real... I still have my doubts. Cheesesteak Eggrolls were OK, but they were cut diagonal and left under the heat lamp a little too long,,

The more things change the worse things get. Beer selection remains solid but does not turn over fast enough. Food has gone down hill. Ordered a shrimp appetizer for 9.25 and got mine breaded frozen shrimp that had been run through the fryer and drowned in some Sysco sauce. Very poor value!

This place is about as close to a dive bar in the area that one can hope for. That is to say one only has to speak a bit of German or Middle English to order a beer at the Candlewyck. Still, when in Rome, on in this case New Hope. I ordered a Founder's, specifically an ale that the company felt compelled to attach a dirty word to that I won't repeat here. It was very good. It had a malty taste, thick mouth feel, and a finish that was clean and smoky all at once. The $5.50 they charged felt like just the right price for it. I haven't written a scathing review in a while, so maybe I subconsciously ordered something I wanted to be subpar: pizza. It turned out to be anything but. It was just a touch underdone, which I like, and reminded me of old school pizzeria pie. The selection for toppings wasn't great, but the Candlewyck is a bar and their menu seemed more focus on specialty pizza anyway. But there was just the right hint of sauce, grease, and the cheese was second to none. The two slices I ordered had little to no structural integrity, but I've never minded having to resort to a knife and fork with pizza. In this case, it elicited some giggles and looks from my fellow patrons. A word about those patrons, and the atmosphere. The Candlewyck may have been seduced by the vaping and beer snob craze that inhabits New Hope, but it's still just a bar. Eagles posters and televisions all over the walls. There was nary a hipster in sight, which I think we can all agree is a good thing. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised, and will definitely go there again.

Change is sometimes good but not the changes at the candlewyck. Stop in for a couple burgers and chicken Caesar wrap. They were mediocre at best. What ever is going on in the kitchen has turned an okay place for a quick dinner into a disappointing experience. Maybe they should just stick with selling beer to go which seems to be the only thing they have got right.

I have just dealt with one of the biggest MORONS i can remember! Not only didn't she know the dinners but got ANNOYED & ARROGANT when questioned on what was available. Had to be connected to a gentleman who could answer BASIC questions. This place is NOT what it used to be . VERY SAD !!!!

  • Mike S.

Oh Boy! We've been "regulars" for years (my editor-in-chief wants this to read decades). The service has historically been great ..... Note the qualifier,"historically". Not too long ago- some moron.... decided to mess with a formula that worked. Today is a sad day for me and my wife. It is the last day we will keep the "Wyck" in our rotation. (To be replaced by Giovanni's - see review) Here's a news flash - forget square plates, heavy silverware, gourmet burgers..... Etc. What happened to cheese steaks wings and pizza at reasonable prices with good quality???? Where did the Nachos go guys? Lost are the meatball Parm Sandwiches. Replaced by Tostitos and Flatbreads. While I'm bitching..... What happened to the old bartenders and the local "pub" feel? Whilst I waited for the "do-over" on my pizza that was soggy, I fumed and my stomach made the noises of a hundred angry women. Alas, the do-over hath arrived...... And it is as the pizza of old - twas - crisp and well made. (Is there an "A" team and a "B" team back in the kitchen?). We are in transition here - a lesson to be learned is,"be who you are and accept yourself for your warts and all - the Wyck decided on plastic surgery and now we are all missing the warts. One last note: I haven't brashly run off and chastised the Wyck, in fact my tongue was held for several visits (ok a dozen) following the "image" change. Now that is is clear that my old comfortable friend the "Wyck" is gone I am sad - so sad - and I sit here wondering if this is progress. To Hell with progress!

Went last night. Drinks very good and fairly priced. Wife's burger very good. Ordered prime rib, the Saturday special. It was absolutely awful. Tough (I thought I was using the wrong end of the steak knife!), grisly, and over-cooked. The lights went out while we were there; maybe it's good I couldn't see this thing. As "compensation,' the server brought out a paper cup of rice pudding (a concoction of really hard rice mixed with half and half?) It was worse than the beef ... It was an altogether odd experience, but at least I finally got to taste what a shoe must be like. I still like the Wcyk, but will stay with the tried and true.

Good deli, plenty of seating and food options. I have not sat in on the bar side only on the casual take out side of the restaurant. The fried chicken is really good and always available in a display case. They have a huge selection of take out beer. (domestic, import, micro brew, and craft beer) If your a beer conosour this should be your take out spot.

Great beer selection. Good peaple at the bar. Would like to see better drink speccials and for them to BRING BACK the NACHOS.

Stopped in for dinner, not expecting much based on some of the reviews. However, the fish and chips and shepherd's pie, both specials, were very good, as was the beer (they know how to pour Guiness with a great head) and wine. We will definitely go back.

Whenever I am in Bucks County, I stop here. They have a good draft beer list, and sometimes they even have real ale (cask-conditioned, i. e. naturally carbonated). A townie joint, but the people are friendly. The bartenders are friendly too, if not super-knowledgeable about beer. Solid bar food. Next door is a bottle shop with 1000 different beers.

Best regular pizza I've had in the local area. Overall, it's alright. People love their wings, I personally think their wings are decent. Their options for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, however, far exceed any other establishment for miles.

  • Jackie T.

I really like Candlewyck...here's why: -They have great specials -Their wings are really good - I suggest coming for wing night (which I believe is 2x per week) -Their beer menu is expansive, especially for the area -The food is consistently good. I've tried several things and liked them all. -It's a local place where lots of "regulars" frequent which I love The only downfall is the service - it's slow and not super friendly, but everything else about the place is good so I'll continue to frequent Candlewyck!

Great local bar and bar food. Sandwiches are good and I like the garlic hot wings. Beers are fantastic and the selection changes. They also have a huge takeout beer selection. I have also gotten the fried chicken which is salty, flavorful and finger licking juicy. I've gone with my children and the waitstaff has always been quite nice. Try the roast beef sandwich.

We were long time customers and watched a fun local pub go down hill at a steady pace. So-so service, cold greasy food that takes far too long, yet we still hoped things would improve. We thought the safest thing to order was the wings, which are really good, but good luck trying to get them served hot. The final straw was when several strands of hair was in our food. I miss the old Candlwyck.

review only on take out beer section: simply put, they have a great take out beer selection in the area. they have good organization and good selection between cold and warm beers. however with the boosting of 1000s beers, i need this place to be great. (haha completely unfair view here) but although they have a strong selection, they can bring in more unique beers for those who have had the majority of their selection. need a good rotation of the far reaching varieties from different breweries you do not typically find elsewhere, and a quicker restocking of beers that quickly sell out.

Do not bother going here for their "homemade" roast turkey on Tuesdays anymore....they have switched to processed turkey breast...NO taste no flavor...nothing like their old REAL roasted turkey!!

We've visited the "wyck" twice in the past two weeks. The service was good, but our food wasn't so much. We had fish and chips on Friday and I was really hoping for a light fluffy battered style fish, but it wasn't that at all. Some of the fish still had the skin on under the batter. I do have to say that the waitresses have always been nice, even when it was awfully busy and the beer selection is pretty good.

  • Pat M.

Honestly I wanted to give this a 5 stars because its a local establishment and I like to rate businesses that support our community directly, but this place has went downhill fast. Their fried chicken is absolutely amazing, but the other food in the deli and take out seems to have suffered the effects of cutting corners. The soup seems to be cut with water over the last few years, the pizza is so greasy its uneatable and the breakfast sandwiches are not what they used to be. While they do have a selection of great beers from around the world the lack of attention of the food being served has been noticed. Please bring your food back to what it used to be. It was very good when the old owner owned it.

  • Christie B.

Best take-out beer selection in the area. Also the very nice and social gentleman that works on the take-out beer side is VERY knowledgeable about all the kinds of beer they have and has consistently given me an out of this world recommendation when I haven't known what I was in the mood for. He is a "beer sommelier"!

Ate lunch there for the first time. The sausage tortellini cream soup was amazing! I cold have eaten 3 bowls. I had the cheeseburger. I always ask for medium and sometimes I get bloody and others I get no pink at all. This burger had some pink in the middle and was incredibly juicy. Cooked to perfection! And it was huge! I mean, really huge! My husband tried the honey dipped chicken. Super crispy skin and tender meat with just the right mix of salty - savory - sweet. Again, the plate was huge. 5 pieces of chicken. Even the mixed veges were yummy. Cooked but not over done with a bit of fresh garlic. The servers were pleasant and attentive and upbeat. We really loved everything about this place! We'll definitely be back!

A nice place to go, good hearty food - not quite "pub grub" but not a while linen place by any means. Sort of like an Applebees, but without the corporate buff and polish, and with a far better menu. Kind of loud and too many TV's for my tastes, but the Lasanga made me forget all about those things. Good for the kids, wonderful "kid savvy" servers make for a better overall experience than other places. Try the burgers too - really good.

One of my favorite places in bucks county. They have the best wings out there and every Tuesday and Thursday is "wing night" so wings are 25 cents! Great family owned place I was in there the other day during a storm and the power was out and the owners were still there for people to buy beer with flashlights.

The "Wic" is one of the best local places that I know of. I have been coming to this establishment since I was in high school (NOT to drink, but for the food) and every time it's been great. The service has always been good and the food has always been awesome. When I turned 21 I started going here when I was home from college, and when I graduated I started to come here for trivia on Wednesday and that is something I look forward to every week. Whenever a Philly team is playing they do specials so you can win tickets and other prizes (for 21+ patrons). They have friendly locals that come in (some are annoying) but it's always a good time. Cheap bar drinks and very moderately priced great tasting food makes this place a diamond in the rough. Although I do WISH that Yelp would update their address of the bar so I can check into it! Some doper mistakenly put 313 instead of 413...UGH!!!

Diner-grade food. A local establishment where the food is as doldrum as the company. My ceasar was a joke. Go for the beer and karaoke, don't go for the food.

There's a very special place in my heart for the crummy ole 'WYCK. First of all - they served me drinks when I was about 15/16 years old - but that was many years ago - I won't say HOW many. So a star for the underage mem'ries. It's also the place I had my first ever Rob Roy. You can get all the old school cocktails here - and beers on tap and in bottles. The food is surprisingly good and safe. They used to serve a tasty cheese ravioli - but that was a long time ago - not sure if they still do. But man, that Rob Roy - what was I thinking????

I have been eating here for the past twenty five years on and off. Good food, ok service with Very friendly staff. The daily specials are well worth it. They used to gave awesome wing specials now the price has doubeled. So it us just good now Vs awesome. They now serve Sunday breakfast., we will be trying it out this weekend. Enjoy

This is a can't miss place. Been here 7 times and had 7 different foods and not 1 complaint. If you need good food and good beer, this is your place. Tons of regular beer choices and many you can't find elsewhere.

Every time I go to visit my Grandfather, we almost always go there for dinner. Over the years a few things have changed. The menu seems to be a little smaller than before, but most of the things that they have removed are the low sales items. So as much as I hate to see these go, I do completely understand this move. They have added plenty of nice flat screen TV's (This was done a while ago). Plus one of the best things that I have seen change over the years is their extensive list of micro beers. It seems to be constantly changing and growing. In the past month we visited twice. The first time was the day after Christmas, which was a Monday. Apparently on Mondays they usually have only 2 servers on, due to it normally being slow. Well, slow it was not, and the two servers were extremely busy. We sat down at the table, our server came over and took our orders. Now the service was slow, which I can handle. I've been in the weeds before. The one thing I didn't care for was the server's sour attitude about the whole thing. But like I said, I have been in the weeds before and bad nights happen. Plus, the food was great, with the exception of my Sprite kinda' tasting like Lysol. So it warranted another visit. My second visit was much better. The food was excellent as always. After my last visit I decided against the Sprite. I tried the birch beer instead, which I loved. The service was fast, but there was one thing that still bothered me. The server was the same as before, grumpy and snippy. A little more friendly, but not that much. I mean come on now. You are in the service industry. And people want to be treated nice. Will I go back? Yes, because the food is good and my family likes it. But if I was a first time visitor I doubt I would come back. As always Stay peckish my friends

The beer selection is excellent. My suggestion is to go on a Monday or Thursday for wing night. There is a bartender that some obnoxious regular refers to as "barkeep" who really knows his beers.

This little dive bar/ restaurant has grown on me. Don't let its appearance fool you, there's some decent food here. I highly recommend the 25 cent wing night. (I used to come here when it was 15 cent wing night!) The wings come in BBQ, hot and "insanity." You might giggle the first time you hear the name, until you try them. If you're getting the insanity, might as well do as my good friend 'milk boy' does and grab yourself a cold glass of Vitamin D for a chaser. Other notables are the Black and Blue burgers, giant-sized Chef Salad, and $2.50 heaping plate of cheese fries. You can most often find bar flies, groups of local old heads, soccer hooligans and the local community sport's team hanging out here. It's a fun place to catch a game and not be stared at when you laugh yourself silly. Obviously it's laid back so don't hesitate to let loose and blow off a long day's work here. Highly recommend.

The Candlewyck is the type of place you can come as you are, for a brew or a burger. We are always greeted by the waitresses and bartender. It reminds me of the bar in Cheers. DO NOT come in here expecting white table clothes, attitude and frou-frou, chi-chi food. No organic goat cheese or curried tofu on the menu, at least not the last time I checked. It's good, old-fashioned American casual fare: burgers, brew, fries. The sandwiches are very good, very generous. Amazing selections of beers. They do have daily home-style specials which vary with the day and are always the same, Expect generous portions. I hope that never changes. Some things in life should stay the same, and those daily specials are one of them!! On the blackboard are some specials also, they are usually good. The prime rib is just right. I was disappointed in some soups, but that is darn minor compared to the rest. Atmosphere is very casual, no need to dress up. No attitude here. That's nice for a change. . Did I say the place is affordable, too? Nice to be able to get a generous, no-nonsense meal with drinks for two people for about 25 dollars for the entire bill. As of late, slight "upgrades", and changes seem to be happening to the menu. The prices have gone up a bit, too, but it is still affordable. They are moving slowly, but there is no need to change the Wyck. I hope the owners don't try to Yuppie-fy the place, we don't need another "upscale", "improved" venue around here. We need a place just like the Wyck, just like it is. And after you stop in for a bite to eat, you will agree.

I used to enjoy eating at this place, used to is the key word. The last time I dinned there they were nickeling and dimming you to death for basic things that should of been included with your meal. I ordered mozzarella sticks and was told it was 50 cent extra for marinara sauce. Really? When my roast beef sandwich came there was no horseradish so I asked for some and was tools that was also 50 cent extra, I mean common, these are basic things that should be included with the meal. If your that hard up for extra money, build it into your price. Your done I will never eat or drink at your place again.

Local place, has been good in the past. The service and surly attitude just leaves you scratching your head. If you want a local place with good food and decent prices in the area, try Pineville or Wycombe Grill.

They Candlewyck is a great little place to grab a bite to eat. Their lunch menu is plentiful, and delicious too! The people who work inside are very friendly and welcoming. They've got a huge selection of beer too! The Candlewyck is one of those places that you just love going to.

The location is pretty dismal, wedged between a couple of large intersections, and the building looks creepy and a bit run down. For a queer kid, I always thought it was the kind of place where a kind patron would take me out back and hate-crime/beat the queer out of me. But it isn't like that! I know now! On a whim, I stopped in seeking good beer (not easy to find in the boonies), having noticed a chimay sign in their window. As it turns out, they have the largest selection of beer in Buck's County. I left with a few of my favorites and a few great suggestions from the salesperson, and I plan on stopping in again soon. Sure, it doesn't really compare to the shops in Philly, but when you need a good beer and your stranded out in the backwoods, its best to make your way to the Candlewyck!

one word - underrated. i must have passed this place a million times before i moved to south jersey. i recently moved back to the area and decided since i now live 5 minutes away, i have to try it. we went here with friends over the weekend. first off, this place is owned by the same people that own the new britain inn, which is also unexpectedly good. i ordered the breaded flounder. the giant portion of fish (3 filets!) came with two heaping sides. i went with the mac-n-cheese and coleslaw. i wolfed down the mac like it was my job. the fish was perfectly fried. tasty cole slaw too. (i'm picky about that.) all in all, we were definitely surprised by the gianormous portions, better than expected quality, and friendly atmosphere. i'm happy to say i'm going to be stopping in at my new old local pub more often!

Time to write a new review. Food average, the shitty bartendress I complained about a few years back is gone, FINALLY. Jeez, did she have pictures of the owner involved in something that might be embarrassing? Was in there the first weekend of January 2013, and the little blonde bimbo airhead twit "look at me I'm so cute" cheerleader tending bar charged me $6.50 or a 12-oz bottle of Budweiser's finest ROLLING ROCK. No shit, $6.50 for a fucking Rock. Whoops? Did I just say that? Goddam right I did. wouldn't mind paying that for a good micro brew, but Rock? We used Rock to mop the floor of the Rathskeller at Penn State. But try ordering a draft and see how much head you get on top of your beer. I'm done with this place FOR GOOD. And that's a real shame because it's the closest bar to my house. I'm pretty screwed I guess, because when I go the other way, I pass the Pineville Tavern and that's no prom winner, either. This new owner at the "Wyck" seems to have a real knack for picking lousy bartenders. When they have a good one, it is REALLY rare. So if you're looking for good service and a bartender that can think, even when the bar is crowded, go somewhere else. I do it all the time now!! Screw the Candlewyck.
