The Bowers Hotel...what a cute place. I am really happy to be able provide a review. The building is old and the parking area behind is near a railroad track. I loved that! The atmosphere, so cute with interesting history. The saloon is a bit small but nice. The bar had approximately 12 seats but they also have four or five high tops in the room. We sat at one of the high tops because the bar was full when we got there. They have a few tv's throughout the bar. The ladies bathroom could use to be updated but it certainly is horrible. The dining room area seemed a little underwhelming. That said there were a lot of people dining so people must like it. My husband and I prefer cozy pub areas. Our bartender greeted us immediately. Even though his bar was full he came right over, said hello, cleaned our table, set the table, and brought our drinks. That was a great start. He was very attentive. If you've read any of my other reviews, you will notice the theme...great service is so super important to me. This place did not disappoint. We ordered Jim Beam and Diets doubles, they were definitely stiff pours which was perfect. My husband ordered the Prime Rib Haus (beef sandwich) with hand cut fries. He cleaned his plate. That said, he said that could've given him more au jus. No problem there, he could've asked for more if he needed it. He also mentioned that he felt the beef had a bit of a frozen taste. The reason he thought that is because they only make prime rib Friday and Saturday. He didn't think he got the fresh prime rib, perhaps it was last weekend's frozen leftover. He would order something different next time. I ordered the Filet Mignon burger. I really enjoyed my burger. The caramelized onions and mushrooms were yummy. The burger was cooked perfectly. The hand cut fries were very good. My only issue was they were called peppercorn Parmesan fries. I assumed they would have peppercorn Parmesan sprinkled on them. They actually had a peppercorn Parmesan dressing drizzled over them. I would get regular fries next time. So...overall we had a very nice experience. We will definitely be back. I would recommend checking them out. Thank you Bowers Hotel for a lovely evening!

This has been out favorite place to eat for years now. I can't decide if the steak night is the best or the Sunday brunch. The prices on special days are off the hook cheap! Sunday brunch buffet with made to order omelette sand eggs benefit and house made desserts is only ....(are you sitting down?) $12.95! Steak night Thursday is NY strip or ribeye with two sides is....(still sitting?) $10.95! The regular menu is awesome. The Bowers punch from the bar signature drink is awesome. The staff is wonderful and attentive! Great place for any meal.

We stopped for lunch and ordered 3 appetizers and a salad to split. The chipotle BBQ wings were very good ( we considered the Thai suicide wings, the waitress was kind enough to let us taste the sauce first.... Lip numbing hot). The calamari was excellent but the tuna sashimi was our favorite, perfectly prepared and a decedent sauce! We will be back

This was our weekly visit for Thursday steak night! $10.95 for certified angus steak ; your choice of ribeye or NY strip and two sides ! Best steak in all of Berks County. The home made desserts are to die for! Tues is open mic night at the bar and they have some really talented patrons. Did I mention that the service is great too!

This review is for the Thanksgiving buffet: My family and I came here last year and had a delicious meal. There was a wide variety of salads on the cold table, a lot of choices for vegetables and sides, and real turkey, dark and white meat. We came back this year and it was a huge disappointment. There were slices of processed turkey. The cold table consisted of one pasta salad and lettuce and dressings. When we went through the buffet there were 3 rolls in the bread basket and very small portions of vegetables in the chafing dishes; there was a long line of people behind us. The cranberry sauce was more like a glaze you'd put on ham. Compared to last year, the desserts were almost non-existent...and what was there wasn't very good. I heard that the restaurant has a new chef. They should try to get the old one back. We will not be returning.

First time here on a Sat. night to see the James Supra Blues Band, which was totally awesome!! The restaurant itself is in a large, old farmhouse with multiple rooms to dine in. We were in a large high-ceiling room to see the band. Decor is old. Very casual setting. All walks of life visited the bar area including motorcycle riders, and people who just stepped off the tractor. Everyone had fun. We had the (recommended) prime rib and the (don't quote me on this flavor name) cajun blue cheese? wings. Everything was delicious. Wings were crisp on the outside with great flavor, not spicy. A man we were with highly recommended the fries and they did look tasty as he gobbled them up. The prime rib was flavorful and tender, cooked perfectly medium rare. Ladies with us had a salad they enjoyed that looked very fresh. For a super busy, noisy, crowded Saturday night, i would say the food and service was decent. I would come back to hear a band again. I recommend wings, fries, and prime rib.

Just had dinner there with my wife. The food was ok, prices were good, but the service was very poor. Had to wait the longest time to get our food. My wife never did get her salad. Will not be going back there anytime soon.

Went there for lunch yesterday. I'm very picky when it comes to food - healthful vegetarian is my way - and I was very pleased with my meal. Great veggie burger, excellent fries, NICE people... it was just fine. Made my day! Owner Bonnie was friendly & chatted with us for quite a while. It is a beautiful old building. We'd been there several times over the years & this latest incarnation is the best!

We've been here a couple times and had better expectations of the place. Both times were on a Saturday afternoon and we ate and drank in the bar. The first time the bartender was excellent and we just had some appetizers. Reasonable beer selection, good appetizers, friendly service, so far, so good. The second time was a total waste of time and money. The 'paninis' we ordered were the worst I've ever had. They consisted of limp roasted vegetables between two pieces of thick, plain, dry toast with raw tomatoes, unmelted cheese, and no trace of the pesto as listed. The whole thing just thrown under the broiler for two seconds. Worse yet was the service. The waitress/bartender totally missed my request for a beer and we noticed that she mucked up the order at the table next to us as well (not to mention that they were seated before us and their food came out well past ours). She was friendly but quite honestly, rather clueless. She grabbed my wife's glass off the table and refilled it without even asking if she wanted another all the while ignoring my wife's request for a different beverage. I was trying to be fair in justifying less than good service as there were a couple large parties in there at the same time. However, there was plenty of staff and the whole party at the bar was ordering a minimal food and leisurely drinks. They weren't being 'slammed' with service orders. After observing other patrons around us having the same experience of mixed up orders, lousy food, and poor service....there really was no excuse. We had hoped for better but won't be back for a long, long, time.

Mexican night had some amazing food and that's from a girl born and raised in Arizona! Service was great and my overall experience was one I would share with others. Can't wait to go back :-)

Unimpressed. We came here for dinner because of all the clamoring. We won't be back. The broken crab salad was tasty. The sheperds pie was bland. The appetizers were mediocre at best. The service was slow but it apparently varies by the server. Another couple was seated at the same as us and they were finished eating before our meals even arrived. If you want to look at an interesting building, visit the Bowers Hotel. If you want good food and service, DON'T.

Had the pleasure of dining with my neighbors and was impressed with both the selection available and at very reasonable prices. It's not the Taj Mahal, but hey, if you need the Taj, then head to India. I'll head back.

I often have to be in the area on business and I so wanted the reopened Bowers Hotel to be good. Food was bland (I was with someone and we ordered different entrees). I will not go back.
