I think I've figured out the reason why a restaurant in a busy traffic corridor is almost empty on a Saturday afternoon. To begin, the hostess just kind of stared at us when we walked in so I had to tell her I needed seats for two. The curt "follow me" preceded her taking us to a small booth. My husband asked if we could have a table so were weren't crammed in. She didn't respond, just picked up the menus and walked us over to a table with another blank stare. When she walked away the "your server will be with you" wasn't even tossed over her should at us, she may as well have been talking to herself. Our server, Savana, was very nice and super attentive. She was the only bright spot. Smiled the whole time and looked us in the eye while speaking. And honestly, she's the only part of this visit that earned a star at all. Now, the food...in a word: awful. I ordered the Asada Tacos and my husband had the Roast Beef Panini with a side of black bean soup. It took about 30 minutes for our food to get to us, and a couple who'd been seated 20 minutes after we walked in got their food about a minute after we did. The steak in the tacos was overcooked and rubbery, and I'm not sure how you manage to make a taco with no flavor at all, but when the only flavor you taste in a steak taco is the avocado, that's embarrassing. And the side of black beans? Well, even I can take a can of black beans, drain them and put them on a plate. No spices, no flavor...bleh. So the roast beef panini with horseradish sauce, cheese and red onions. The meat was flavorless here too. And there was no horseradish to be found...we took it apart and checked...nope, none. My husband didn't even finish it. And his side of black bean soup? Seems they kept some of the fluid from the can of black beans I'd been given, put it in a bowl, warmed it up with a few stray beans and topped it with a ton of tortilla strips. Zero flavor, spice or anything and so watery he didn't finish that either... So considering the length of time the food took and the fact that it was all flavorless when it wasn't busy, we won't be back. But I would happily steal Savana to work at my company!

Don't think "dark pubby atmosphere". Think swanky, upscale brewpub, with nicely designed seating, lighting, and decor. It's a brewpub you'd be happy to take your girlfriend or Mom to for dinner. Food is definitely at the upper end of good for a brewpub. Excellent gluten free menu! Sampled the wings, nachos, and salmon. All were delicious. Servers are young, but well trained and anxious to please. This is a really nice place for dinner with a group, that just happens to be a brewpub too.

I have patronized this place more than I would care to admit. Close to work so have been there for farewells and birthdays. The microbrews are okay, nothing I would go out of my way for to drink. The food is either hit or miss. Some dishes are palatable, most are microwaved so heavily that they come out super hot and dry. Had the fish tacos last visit and they were so dry they were difficult to swallow. Service was up to snuff, but if you want a great lunch/dinner make the drive into KOP.

Spur of the moment, let's try the "new Mckenzie's" in Berwyn and compare to our go-to Malvern mainstay. Love the decor, but who knew we should have made a reservation? We were stuck in a dining room sitting at a table that was seriously blocking the major traffic patterns of the frenetically paced servers. So, we moved. To a high top table in the bar, which was tucked away so that we were NOT gone, but we were sort of forgotten. Bottom line, service sucked, food was pretty okay, ahi tuna, pizza, cheese platter, Mediterranean salad, beers, all okay. If I had it to do over, I would have made a reservation for a table all the way in the back, or even better a table in the bar in front of the fireplace with plenty of TV and people to watch! Consensus was this new location is heavy on the Main line clientele and the corporate center crowd, which is awesome because this space has been empty for awhile, and Chuck E Cheese has been lonely! Still like Malvern better.

I really do love this place. Great food, superb beers on tap, and an extensive children's menu that my kids enjoy. The staff are friendly and accomodating. I always recommend McKenzie's to out-of-towners. Their Sunday brunch is excellent. My only reservation is with the serving staff. We've had one or two different servers who aren't attentive, left us sitting and waiting forever to get the check. Our lunch server messed up our order, but honestly, no biggie. The biggest problem I have with McKenzie's is the food runners. I know it's a casual place, but why do food runners have to auction off plates? "Uh, who had the... uh, burger?" Please have a system in place to deliver food where it belongs without having your guests have to shoot their hands up. The management could probably work on training their staff better.

Honestly, I love the place but I only go to the bar. I've never sat at a table. My wife and I go regularly and find the staff at the bar attentive and friendly. The happy hour is great and the prices are reasonable. I think the food is really good Pub Food. From lettuce wraps to flatbreads, I've been happy with portions and the value....as a matter of fact, I'm on my way there right now.... Cheers!

So, McKenzie's does brunch now? A lot of the brunch joints around here don't serve alcohol, so if you want a mimosa or bloody mary, you're outta luck. McKenzie's apparently want folks to come in for brunch cause with every brunch item, you get a complimentary mimosa, bloody mary, beer, or smoothie. Yeah! So we checked it out. Nobody knows about this yet I guess cause the restaurant was completely empty at 11am on a Sunday. Anyway, I like Mckenzie's regular menu and haven't been disappointed when I've come in the past for dinner. Their brunch menu was kinda small. It's basically just omelets, eggs benedict, french toast, and a breakfast burrito. It would be cool if they offered some items off their lunch menu as well. Everyone in my group got omelets and it came with a small side of home fries, some fruit, and texas toast. It wasn't bad, but I know there's better brunch food in the area. However, I'm certainly not going to complain about a free mimosa, and even if you wanted a second, I think they were only $3.99. Not bad.

The real problem here, other than the truly dreadful pizza, is willfully rude, curt, and insensitive staff. Customers come last and seemingly pointless rules and regulations come first. No bending here on the menu either. . You get simply a quick "no can do" or "not possible" from service staff. We entered last week with a small group. We were the only ones in the place at 3:30 PM, When we pointed out our favorite seat we were told no--"that's for a larger group". I begged for the position and was told I would have to move if the place filled up. In the forty minutes I was there only one other party of thtree entered. This is an example of unthinking, by-the-books management that doesn't cut it for me.. I put up with bthe endless b.s. here because it is closer to home. When I have politely expresed my concerns I received a dumb look in return. This place cannot seem to get it right.

Went here with my coworkers to celebrate work anniversary. Decor and organization of the restaurant are pretty good; in addition, both good for small and big groups. Service was pretty consistent. Our server was very attentive and made sure that we felt comfortable. However, the downside that caused me to give a lower review was the amount of time we had to wait for our entrees to come out. It probably took at least 25-30 minutes for them to come out. The restaurant was busy at the time, but based on how big McKenzie is, it should have the manpower and cooks to serve any number of customers: both small and large number. When our food arrived, presentation was good, but it wasn't eye-popping. It didn't give me that "wow". It was Ok.

I debated between giving this place 1 or 2 stars, but I settled on two because the appetizer we ordered was decent. The service though? Awful. It was midday on a Saturday and the entire restaurant was empty, but somehow it took 35 minutes to order an appetizer and 15 for drinks. We actually had to go inside the restaurant to hunt down a manager or a server or ANYONE to help us. It was so difficult to find someone that we were considering just leaving. Our server came back and told us she "forgot" to ring in our drinks. We were her only table. Not sure how that's possible. Finally a manager came over and decided that she would comp our next round of drinks after we waited nearly 20 minutes for the first round. I appreciate the gesture but we didn't have all day to wait around for crappy service. Also, immediately upcharging for extra pitas for a three dip platter that you couldn't possibly finish with the normal amount of pitas? Not cool, McKenzie. We were so annoyed we left and went somewhere else for lunch. I know I'll never return.

I love the food here. They have so many choices. I think their beer is so so and mostly too hoppy. Try their chicken pot pie.

I've been to McKenzie's a few times now and each time I keep hoping it gets better. Mostly go there because work pays for it, otherwise I would skip the place. The food is just okay and today the server was the worst I've ever seen. Never asked us for drinks, didn't know who ordered what, the perfect example of how not to be a server. Even for free, I think I'll skip it next time around.

Dear Bill (The Restaurant Manager) The fact that you are the manager of a restaurant blows my mind. You have absolutely no customer service skills and have no idea what empathy is when it comes to having people skills. I don't know how you can be looked at as leader with the type of role model behavior you demonstrate to your peers. No onto my review... I've visited McKenzie's numerous times for the occasional beer after work and always had a pleasant experience. The bartenders have always been great with their recommendations with what is on tap and on the menu. Since I have great experiences there before I recommended to my mother to meet my family and I there for my birthday. (February 7th) My party of six showed up and your host sat all six of us in a small booth in the back of your restaurant. (Completely away from everything and everyone) My mother politely asked the waitress if we were able to be moved to a more comfortable table where we all could sit together without being on top of one another. (Your host crammed 6 adults in a 4 top booth). The waitress replied that it wasn't an option. After being seated I excused myself from the table and approached the host stand. You greeted me with a smile at first. Once you heard my concern about being moved to a more spacious table your fake facade quickly diminished. It was clear that my mom's concern with the seating was brought to your attention from your waitress as you referred to me as the gentleman with a group of 6. I asked you politely if we were able to be moved and before I could even finish my question you replied again with a hastily "NO." I questioned you about all 12 empty tables in the bar and you quickly responded with another, "NO," before I could even finish my question. I work in the field of customer service, and you did absolutely nothing to make our experience comfortable at all. You told me you couldn't do anything without even looking me in the eye. I can completely understand if the place was packed, and if there was no seating, but it was a ghost town in your restaurant. I normally would have asked to speak to YOUR manager, but it was MY birthday and I didn't want to argue, I really just wanted to spend time with my family whom I haven't seen in a while. It's a shame that you are representative of that business as you did nothing to make our visit worth while. I'm assuming you were having a bad day with how you treated me and my family. My family and I got up and left your establishment and took our dinner 5 minutes up the road to a place that was much more welcoming. It's solely because of you, and your unprofessionalism that I will never return, nor recommend anyone to attend your establishment. To top it off... Me, a customer who walked out on your service...Went out of my way to hold the door for another family who's mother was on crutches as you and your hostess' stood back and watched. The owner of this restaurant needs to seriously evaluate the people he/she has working there. If this type of "customer service" continues, I won't be surprised if the business doesn't last. I'm still blown away with how my family and I were treated.

The fish tacos were alright just a little dry as well as the rice and beans! The service was really slow and didn't make us feel any special. Two stars for the atmosphere and the fact that I had a good time regardless.

Closer to a 3.5 but not quite a 4. McKenzie's offers a nice ambiance, a menu that offers something for everyone, and their own draught list. Unlike many brew pubs, McKenzie's isn't dark and dingy but instead well decorated and lit. The bar area is in a wide open space, and is next to a "lounge" section complete with working fireplace they light in the winter. There's also an outdoor patio-- it's nice as well but does sit atop a parking lot overlooking 252/202. Still it's well done and nice to have the option. The menu is fairly large but doesn't feel overwhelming. There are a number of healthier options such as salads, fish tacos, fresh grilled fish, etc. as well as your typical burgers, steaks, wings (which are quite good here), etc. There are even a few tapas options. While there are definitely a few hits on the menu, most of the food is slightly above mediocre. They seem to have changed the calamari a little while back, which I used to really like with the hot peppers, but now seems to be too much deep fry and not enough squid. The margarita flatbread was also disappointing and sliders were hit or mess (if I'm remembering correctly I loved the beef ones but was not a big fan of the pork ones). On the other hand, a few of my favorites are the caesar salad, fish tacos, and mac and cheese with shrimp. On Sundays there is a "steak out" deal which gets you a 6 oz filet, 12 oz ny strip, or 16 oz rib eye with a caesar salad, baked potato, and 16 oz beer for $21-- it's a pretty good deal. The steak is about what you would expect from a place that doesn't focus strictly on steaks but it wasn't bad either. I've always been able to find something on the draught list and have rarely been disappointed. Service is nothing to write home about but has never been horrible. There have been times where I've waited a little while to get another beer or have plates cleared. McKenzie's is definitely a solid choice for dinner or lunch and with a few tweaks to the quality of some of their menu items it could easily be a 4 star.

For the longest time I resisted coming to McKenzie, for it's a brewery chain with enough mediocre review. But pleasantly surprised, I actually liked it here. Well of course I should specify that I came during happy-hour hours. $3 pints and $5 apps?!?! The price with their decent quality, that earned them an extra star right there! I've only sat at the bar and the bartender (the one who runs the show, not the helpers) has always been friendly with nice suggestions. For beer choices we had: Route 202 Pale Ale - 3.5 star. Your average APA. Nothing special but very easy and pleasant to drink. Saison Vautour Farmhouse Ale - 3.5 star. Again, very drinkable. Average but no complains. From $5 apps menu: Retro Cheddar Bacon Skins - 3.5 star. Well balanced. Wings - 3.5 star. Your average chain restaurant wings. Not a big portion but well worth the money. Well it really could be a 3.5 star place, but coming in with negative reviews and low expectations, I actually walking out feeling better about this place. After all, nice atmosphere, enjoyable food and drinks, pleasant service, AND budget friendly, what more can we ask for? I'm definitely willing to go back and try out other items on the Happy hour menus!

  • Amber K.

I come here mostly for the bar. The Happy Hour food specials are great. I love their appetizers. The small nachos are so big, I don't know who eats the large portion. The santorini sampler (tzatkiki, hummus, and roasted artichoke parmesan dip) is so good! The bar service is hit or miss. I've had really great service, but I've also stood at the bar wondering if the bartender was ever going to get to me. Recently I came in to watch a (non Eagles) football game and they had music on instead of the sound. I asked the bartender if they could switch it and they accommodated me without a problem. Aside from happy hour... you have to come here for brunch! It's only on Sundays, but you get a TON of food and each brunch entree comes with a complimentary bloody mary, mimosa, craft beer, or fruit smoothie. Beware the bloody mary, it is spicy! I love the pollo burrito. The side of bacon is only $2.25 and it is definitely worth it! When the weather is nice, having brunch out on the patio is perfect.

Anniversary dinner. Two appetizers. The first was fontina fondue, which was so thin that to the cheese would not stick to any of the dipping items. The flat bread was so salty to be inedible. Dinner..my wife's fish was was extremely 'fragrant' and tasted a bit off. My dinner of chicken pot pie had two pieces of chicken, three potatoes, and a white sauce that was off. The only positive was that the Brandywine Wit and ESB were outstanding.

Nice environment. We always start off with the beef nachos. Great tri-colored chips. Outstanding salsa and cheese medley that makes my tastebuds sing! Tonight I went with the pulled pork sliders with the mango salsa and pub fries (comes with sweet potato fries but I sub for pub fries). Good taste and temperature. Kirsten was the waitress and she was very attentive and super friendly! A+ service from her.

My wife and I ate at the McKenzie Brew House in Berwyn today, and it'll be our last time. We should have known something was wrong with the initial phone call. Several places in the area were packed for brunch, but the hostess told us over the phone there was no wait at all. Hmmmmm.... All the basic needs were initially met because within minutes we were seated, menus were given right away, and the first round of beverages were delivered shortly thereafter. Off to a good start, right? Things started going down hill after we placed our order. We ordered off the menu, and made only one simple request. They didn't "brown" my hash browns like I had asked, and it took multiple attempts to get it right. Is browning hash browns really that hard? Each time it took longer for my waitress to return, and each time she promptly left before we could ask for anything else (ketchup, second round of beverages, the rest of our meals). This resulted in multiple unnecessary trips, and a longer meal time. At one point she completely disappeared, and we had to ask a bus boy for help. We asked for more coffee, and he looked like we asked for one of his kidneys. I guess were asking for too much? The food, drinks, and atmosphere were just OK. The staff seemed bored, and sometimes annoyed. Perhaps the large bar, crafty beer, and average prices are the main draw for this place? I recommend going to Iron Hill, Sly Fox, or anywhere else that tells you there's a wait time. This means they have customers, and it's for a reason.

I have been going to the Malvern location for years, but just recently tried the Berwyn restaurant for a girls night out. We split the steamed clams. Be warned, the broth is spicy, due to a generous sprinkle of red pepper flake! I then savored the creamy feta and roasted red pepper bruschetta! It was awesome, but came with what could have been an entire basil plant! I Had a side ceaser which was not bad, although a bit over dressed. I find this fairly typical of restaurants - Next time I'll order the dressing on the side. We finished with the Italian chocolate mousse with salted carmel topping - heaven in a goblet! Our waiter, John, was very patient with us... We were so busy catching up it took at least half an hour for us just to order our appetizers! He gave suggestions of his favorite items on the menu and did not try to up sell - both welcome as the menu is beyond extensive! It amazes me the chef can cook that many things so well! There were lots of large groups and the bar was packed, but out service was still attentive and pleasant to our party of two! Despite their heavy handed garnish and condiment use it was a great night! We'll go back!

Perfect place for our celebratory lunch. Girlfriends and I sat next to the cozy fireplace in the Lounge, just off the expansive bar. Our app and entrees were delicious. Service courteous and regular. Love their beer selection is made locally, on site! Would love to go back for HH or larger event. Yum!

Our company often has happy hours here. Drinks are fine - food is just average. It's bar food - wings, shipach/artichoke dip, hummus and pita, potato skins etc. Meanwhile service was OK - not great and not bad - and we got great seats at a corner of the bar. My "Ruby Red" was made with REAL grapefruit juice (I saw the bartender squeezing it), Cointreau and Grapefruit-flavored vodka. Very summer-y and refreshing. We also had a corporate lunch for 8 here - and the food was good - but not great. Soups are very salty (Crab bisque) and salads, while BIG (the small was enormous) are mostly lettuce with a few of the "premium" ingreditents (Salmon and asparagus had 2 spears of asparagus, Beet Salad had one slice of Red beet (cut in half) and One slice of golden beet (cut in half). While the beets were delicious - I would have appreciated more of them. Crab cake ($6.95 additional) was good. Grilled fish entree was the best of the lot (fluke?) with jasmine rice and green beans. I will be back with corporate events but given my own preferences I would not likely dine here on my own acccord. Drinks? Fine. Lunch/Dinner? Maybe go elsewhere. (Oh - but where???)

Went here with a friend of mine for a girls night dinner on a Saturday night. We were seated right away which was nice, in a cute little booth by the fire! We each had one of their home brewed beers; she had their wheat ale and I had the Saison Vautour which I rated a 5/5 on my Untappd app! So good! We split the tempura asparagus (amazing) and each got the Chicken Piccata which was also delicious! The chicken was lightly breaded and it was served with angel hair pasta. It could have used a tiny bit more sauce but it was so, so good. Then we split the choco taco for dessert which was equally if not more amazing. It was just a very good meal. I had never been here before and was pleasantly surprised. They also have a gluten free menu which is great! I hope to go back there soon!

The mediocre reviews for this shallow sump called a "brew house" are well deserved. There is absolutely nothing brewing here. The waitstaff have no clue how to do a proper job in the dining room. The manager on duty was oblivious to any requests that things be corrected. The decor was genesis generic without any focus. Nothing to see there. They are located in a fading strip mall close to a decades old dreary subdivision. Maybe it is the proximately to that subdivision and the lack of any real dining in the area which lands folks who don't want to drive a few miles to the excellent dining in King of Prussia and Wayne. Somehow they managed to open two more of these drecks in other locations. If you are over 23 or if you have any idea what is fit to eat this in not your scene. The menu is full of wings, burgers, pizza and soggy salads with a few entrees and the "Pub Favorites." They have complete dinners under the heading "Pub Favorites." This fat laden list is there to pack on the pounds. Meatloaf, wieners, fish and chips, and pot pie, really. We went all out and tried the lump crab cakes. The operative word here is cake. And the the chicken stir fry. The chicken was rubbery and the vegetables overcooked. I wish, I wish I could give this place less than one star

We've eaten here about 4 times and are always very disappointed with both the food and service. It's been about a year since we've been here, so we decided to try again. We won't make that mistake again. Food is average at best. The calamari was the saltiest thing we've ever eaten. The staff is apathetic. It's always a bad experience.

When I hear the term "Brew House," I automatically think BEER! When I went to McKenzie's with a friend I was less than enthusiastic! I asked the bartender to recommend something tasty. Right off TW bat he jimmied me up a Strawberry Mojito! Only one think I can say about it... D'Lish!! My Oh My!! It was perfect! I had never had a Strawberry Mojito & I have yet to have one as good. The flavor was rich & smooth. Since the first time, I have been to McKenzie's a hand full of times. I really like it. The only negative about McKenzie's in Devon/Berwyn is that the eliminated Thursday Karaoke! Other than that, I feel like a regular!

Sometimes a drink is what ya need. Met the wife here for some after work R&R. The bar was just way way too loud with many folks scoping out potential friends and having animated conversations with older friends. All in a room with all hard surfaces and music making for huge reverb and a overloud buzz. Pass on the bar drink specials and off to the dining room. Decent chain place style service not too hard on the up sell but the sales training shines through. Beer was very good, food was good - we had a nice app plate of artichoke and spinach dip, a chicken burger and baja fish tacos. We also have some deserts that were just ok - creme brulee and some forgetable thing. Competent service competent cooking not outstanding but close and not too costly. Gets the job done.

I had the most awful customer service experience tonight, thanks to restaurant manager Bill. Last night and tonight, my husband and I ordered takeout from Mckenzie's. Both nights, we were told it would take 20 minutes, but instead it took 40. No one apologized for this. Tonight, when my husband got home, I realized I was given the wrong dressing for my salad. I called and asked to speak with the store manager. Bill was put on the phone. When I told him about my experience, he said "Do you want to come back to get the right dressing?" Again, no apology for the bad experience. I told Bill I didn't want to come back because I'm not feeling well. His reaction was "Well then what do you want me to do?" I told Bill I wanted him to credit my card for the price of the salad. Bill gruffly put me on hold. After being on hold for 10 minutes, I called back and asked to speak to Bill again. I was told that BILL HAD LEFT! He put me on hold and then left. This shouldn't surprise me that much as I had a similar experience with Bill a couple of years ago. I had ordered the Big Island Mahi salad, and the piece of mahi on the salad was really small (I ordered this salad all the time, so I know what the normal portion looks like). When I pointed it out to the server, he sent Bill over. Bill proceeded to argue with me, insisting that all portions are weighed out every morning on a scale, and there's no chance the mahi wasn't the exact size it's supposed to be. He was so rude and argumentative. I can't believe the owner of the restaurant allows Bill to keep his job there! That aside, I will say that my husband and I eat at Mckenzie's at least once a week, and the food is really good. This complaint is purely about the takeout service and Bill's complete lack of customer service abilities.

McKenzie's is a solid choice for a quick bite out with friends or a fast dinner with the family. The beers and food are great! I've been here for lunch, dinner and late-night to watch games at the bar. The best thing on the menu is their appetizers. I am particularly fond of the potato skins. They are made fresh to order and consist of REAL ingredients. The bar area is huge and has plenty of televisions to take in a good game. Service can be hit or miss but I think that is anywhere these days. Overall, it's a good, solid choice for a beer or bite to eat in the KOP or Devon/Berwyn area.

I can only comment on the lunch food. It really depends on what you get. The roast beef sandwich is sliced too think to comfortably bite through, but the salads and flatbreads are good. The service can be very slow. This is a problem if you only have an hour for lunch. Go early, because it gets worse the more crowded it gets.

I stopped here with my brother on our way down to Delaware. The parking lot was under construction and from the outside it looked like nothing special. However, the inside looks like it is new and renovated with lots of space. The McKenzie beers were pretty decent -- not the best I've ever had -- but the food and service was excellent. Burger's cooked to perfection and slathered with enough chipotle sauce. Only complaint was the acoustics of the place. They had a guy playing guitar and singing. While he was actually pretty good, the tall cavernous ceilings made it reverberate throughout the whole place and had to almost shout for my brother to hear me talking just across the table.

Food is decent but nothing that will knock your socks off. This is an 'eye of the beholder' type of place. I'm not a craft/microbrew person, but I enjoy their microbrew selection. The setup is decent although the bar atmosphere can be on the loudish side. All in all, a good happy hour spot.

This place is not far from work so I've been here on several occasions for lunch. I really like the decor of the place and the bar area is huge! On a busy day, it can get fairly loud in there, making it a bit difficult for conversations. They have a great menu selection and I've never had a bad meal here. I've had the pizzas, fish, and salads and they've all been delicious. Service has always been quick and friendly. The only negative I have with the place is the lack of nutritional data. They do not post this info on their website. While they do flag certain items on their menu as being healthy, I would still prefer to see the actual nutritional data. I always ding a restaurant for not providing this information. Aside from that though, I always enjoy coming here and will certainly be back. I can't comment on the alcohol as I'm always here during lunch!

If this place was closer, I could see myself going here pretty frequently. Think, Iron Hill but with better food, better service, and a better bar. We arrived early for a business lunch and were sat right away. Our server was nice enough but was really intense about taking our order - only 2/5 of us had our menus closed and he was standing within 3 feet the entire time and came over and wanted to take the whole table's order...luckily we were pretty much ready but I definitely don't consider 2 menus out of 5 as a "hey, come take our order" sign. Anyway. I got the roast beef and white cheddar sandwich - it was REALLY good - only qualm was that there was some gristle in it. I was at a business lunch so couldn't start pulling out the chunks so had to suffer through the swallows so that kind of sucked. I am willing to forgive due to how good the sandwich was that was non-gristle. Came with potato salad instead of fries and it was great! Nice big portion of red bliss potato salad with a very light mayo dressing. Pickle, too, which we all know makes Pregger Megger happy. The brown gravy it was served with tasted like it was out of a can - and not the classy, glass container, like a bottom shelf store brand brown gravy. I'm not knocking it, but for almost $10, you should PROBABLY have better tasting gravy. Didn't drink the beer for obvious reasons, but got my husband a growler for $12.99 of the Oatmeal Stout. I've drank enough Oatmeal Stout's to be able to sniff out a good one and this was seems like it has great promise - and for $12.99? Even if it is medium, that's a great deal. So, in closing, the atmosphere is very nice (played 90's rock - Candlebox, Duran Duran...I was in heaven), high ceilings, clean bathrooms, lovely decor, the food was quite good, the beer selection looked very decent, and the service was pretty good (and who knows, I might just not like hoverers, and he might have been just fine...) Check this place out, even if for a beer and snack, you'll probably have a nice time! Oh, and I got the growler at the bar and the tender was SUCH A SWEETIE PIE. THANKS SWEETIE PIE BAR TENDER FROM TUESDAY AROUND 1:30! **I forgot to add - their coffee is THE TITS!!!** Love, Meg PS - they have no place to put your coat.

I've been here two times for lunch. The quality of the food is very good, but I must say that the portions on my chicken dish the last time were quite paltry. The description said it was accompanied by a red bliss potato which turned out to be 2 small slices of said potato. The people who were with me asked if I ordered this dish as an appetizer! Service was friendly and quick. It has a very pleasant atmosphere as well.

I was in the area for work and ended up coming here four nights in a row. The food is awesome-I particularly loved the buffalo chicken pizza and the BBQ chicken quesadilla. The rolls are made in house and AMAZING. spinach and artichoke dip is also great as well. Only negative were their french fries...for something so easy it was disheartening they were not good. The beers are pretty good, I stuck with the IPA most of the time and liked it, but it wasn't amazing. They have great happy hour specials on drinks and apps and during the week at 9 they have karaoke, quizzo and music trivia. Great atmosphere! Also the service is great, Christina is one of the best waitresses I've ever had!

Definitely a different feel to this place compared to the one in Malvern. This is more for adults as the decor feels more date friendly than the Malvern one where I feel like college kids hang out. However, the night I went for dinner there were a ton of families. I was surrounded by little kids or babies. Yikes. I don't get why someone would bring their kids to a brewery. Keep them home!!! I did enjoy the food. So much was sampled. The quesadillas weren't wrapped but had two tortillas sandwiching the steak. The spinach artichoke dip was delicious. The sliders both steak and burger were awesome. I know this place also offers some different beers from the Malvern location so definitely worth trying out.

My husband and I stopped here yesterday, and everything was good! The service was attentive, food was good, and dessert to die for! We shared the Jameson fontina fondue and cheeseburger sliders. These 2 things had minor details that brought the visit from 5 stars to 4 stars. The fondue was good, but I would preferred it to be a thicker consistency, and it came to our seats not hot, just warm. The sliders were good, but my husband noticed that the rolls were hard, like they weren't fresh. We had the apple spring rolls for dessert, and these were delicious! It was like almost like eating apple pie, and the vanilla ice cream served with them was the perfect touch.

(Devon location) Lunch time here is better than dinner. More room to sit - more laid back style...and some better pricing options. Food has always been very good. And the variety is solid. I think you could even complain that some of the meals have too many toppings/ingredients. Service is acceptable. Pricing is acceptable. Overall I would definitely go out of my way to go here especially if I had a business lunch because I know exactly what I would be getting!

We've been to McKenzie's in Malvern and enjoyed it, so decided to try the closer-to-us Berwyn location. I wasn't impressed. I'm not sure if it is because the place is larger than the Malvern restaurant, but the quality of the food was lacking. The clam chowder was so salty it was barely edible and the lettuce in my salad was wilted. The tomatoes almost tasted frozen. I don't like sending things back (horror stories) but I won't be eating there again. The fries and the Belgian Wit beer were both very good, and my husband liked his blue cheese and carmelized onion burger. If you are going to this location, I'd recommend a burger and fries and a seat at the oversized (and pretty cool-looking) bar. However, if you can go to the Malvern location, it's a better value and better meal.

I love this place. I have both sat in to dine and ordered out. Either way it is an easy experience. They have the best pizzas. The flavor is so good. You could just get the cheese pizza and it is delicious. If you go, you must get the crab artichoke dip. I have never had better. It's enough to share with several people. I have no real complaints about this place. Any time I have eaten in the waiter we would have has always been professional and attentive. If you just want to go somewhere to get some drinks after work, this is also a good place to go for that. Nice atmosphere. good food. The only problem I have is sometimes when you order take out the food is NOT consistent. Sometimes it's really good and sometimes it's off. Example- If you order a burger, order it well done. They seem to have a problem cooking food at the right temperature. It seems to always be under cooked. I order from here several times a month so I know this to be true . I still love the place. If your not happy with something and you let them know then they will try to make it right with you.

Here on business and it's near hotel so we figured what the heck...let's slum it for the night. But have to tell you... Very good beer and very good food and a nice restaurant overall...we've been back three times...the Wit wheat beer is very good so is the Summer Sangria. I've had grilled Mahi (excellent) and Baha fish tacos ( good but not memorable enough to order again) and just had Coconut Shrimp stir fry (yummy!) , interior is very nicely done however if you eat in the bar when it's busy be prepared to not be able to hear yourself think (lots of hard surfaces).. Choose the dining room of you want to have a conversation. My co-workers tried the ahi tuna (excellent) sliders and the jambalaya....haven't had a bad dish yet.Service has been very good and consistent so we can't complain. We're going back to try more.... Like this place a lot.

Pure Filth! One thing I hate is a dirty restaurant, and up until I noticed the absolutely disgusting metal side drops at the tables, I was fine with McKenzie's Brew House...Granted the service was extremely slow and the food was okay, but upon seeing the filth spotting the wall directly next to my arm...which had been touching said wall moments before, I was able to ignore the average food and service. I don't understand how a restaurant can get away with this type of disgraceful filth. How hard is it to spray some windex? Seriously..take a look at those metal dividers you have up. See all that scum???? That is what was touching me while I was eating I take hygiene incredibly serious in a restaurant, and if the help can't bother to clean the common areas of a restaurant where patrons will be coming in contact, I can only begin to imagine the horrors in the kitchen. i will never go back again.

I used to really love this place. The food was very good to excellent and the beer was great. But the last couple of times here the service has been so bad it ruined the experience. I stopped in for a quick dinner at the bar tonight and apparently I'm invisible. And when I finally got someone's attention they acted like they were doing me a favor. This may be my last visit. What a shame.

I had dinner at McKenzie earlier this week. Walking in the door, the sound system was so loud that I actually said to the hostess "I'm sorry but I've changed my mind; this is too noisy." She replied that she could seat me somewhere quiet. And she tried, but the volume just went up several times over the course of my dinner. The food was okay (the carne tacos) and the server was attentive, but my meal was ruined by the thumpa, thumpa, thumpa base from the sound system in the bar. I won't be going back.

Location - the Berwyn, PA McKenzie's Brewhouse ad reservations but that didnt mean anything. Receptionist was highly abrasive in her speech. She said I didn't reserve early enough as I had just made it at noon and barked at me that I had to wait. She was rude and condescending but obviously "in charge" as the manager could do nothing to get her to speak in any other many to customers. The customers are treated as if she were herding cats and they were a nuisance to her.She is the most disrespectful hostess I've ever encountered. Staff is untrained and confused. Atmosphere is loud, and chaotic. Horrible experience - food just so-so. Never again! Go some place else if you want a pleasant reception and atmosphere with good food - it's not at McKenzie's in Devon.Reservations are accepted but not honored. I wrote a letter to the owner and received absolutely no response so it looks like he really doesn't care when his patrons are rudely treated. It kills me when I drive by and see the parking lot is full - why do you accept such treatment from an owner who doesn't care about his customers. Here is the letter I wrote to the owner detailing the problems which he totally ignored: Dear Mr. Mangan, Last night, we celebrated our son's 30th birthday at your new restaurant in Devon. I made reservations for 7:00 p.m. for 6 people. When we arrived at 7:00, I told Valerie, your hostess that we had reservations. I expected that a table would be held open for us. Instead, I was greeted with the rudest reception I have ever experienced. She said, "Yeah, well I got plenty of people with reservations ahead of you - I got 6 here 7 there. You'll have to wait "and handed me a responder. I said "We have a reservation". She said, "When did you make it?" I said, "Noon". "She said, "Well, you just made it today, that's not early enough". She was the brashest person I have ever met in a service industry. She is in her 20's but clearly in charge. It was as if she were herding cats and all these customers were such a nuisance to her. There were several women behind her who said absolutely nothing and looked helpless. Obviously, if you come into this restaurant, this is how you can expect to be treated. The atmosphere is disorganized and chaotic - your people at front seem at a loss as to what to do which may be why Valerie feels it is her job to take over. I asked to speak to the manager. Susie also seemed confused as to what to do about Valerie's rudeness or our reservations. She seemed afraid of Valerie. We just had to wait. I didn't want to leave the restaurant - it was a Sat. night and I'm sure another place would have caused a wait as well. When we finally were given a table, I told Valerie how rude she was. Her response was, "Yeah well my name is Valerie and the owner's name is Bill-go tell him or if you want, go tell Susie again." I asked to speak with you but of course you never came over to our table. I'm sure you've invested thousands of dollars into this restaurant. You should spend some time and money in choosing and training people who have more of a service attitude. People will come to your restaurant when it's new, just to see and experience a new place. But, when the reception is a verbal beat down and they are treated as if it were thousands of people being evacuated from a building, they will stop coming. With so many restaurants opening up and quickly failing, more attention should be taken by your management to make it a pleasant, welcoming place. I didn't want to ruin my son's birthday celebration. The way I respond is by never returning to the restaurant. Last night, you lost 6 customers. I wonder if you care

We've eaten here several times since its opening several months ago. Overall, I would say the food is better than the Malvern location which we have eaten at many times over the years. The service at the Devon location leaves a bit to be desired. The runners bring the food out hot, so that is not a problem, but you often go 10-15 minutes without even seeing your server. This has happened on several occasions with different servers so it may be that they are still working out the kinks at the new location. For bar food, I give it 4 stars, as I think they do a nice job. Service, well....2 stars at best.

Decided to try the place after tasting their beer at the Doylestown Beerfest last week and really liking it. The place was not very crowded on Sunday so the service was very good and we actually spent some time talking to the waiter Dave who has worked there since the place opened. We wanted to try a few different beers and the waiter kindly gave us a taste of the two we were not sure we would like. We tried pints of three (3) different beers and all were quite good (the Oatmeal Stout, IPA and Pale Ale). For an app my GF wanted to try the Asian Lettuce Wraps which it turns out you have to wrap yourself. They were OK. For dinner GF had Baja Fish Tacos (3 to an order) which she enjoyed, but they're not as good as those at Jose Pistolas (downtown Philly 15th St.). I had the Shrimp & Crab Mac 'n Cheese and it was very good. In fact it was so good that GF wants to back so she can have it for herself. So yes we are going back the next week or so. P.S. Deserts are not listed on the online menu but there are a few choices. We enjoyed the bread pudding with ice-cream, tasty and plenty for the two of us. We'll try something chocolate next time.

I visited McKenzie's for lunch and my opinion of the place is favorable overall. I had a wonderful sandwich of housemade lamb sausage and tzatziki sauce and it was great! The sauce was laid on thick, just the way I like it, and the sausage was like taking bites of a lamb chop. VERY flavorful, but there were some cartilage chunks that I had to spit out. Worth it though, since it was housemade. The chips that came with it were all right and the pickle was no good-- the brine was not at all good. I tried a bite of the chicken pita and it was really fresh and tasty (also with that tzatziki sauce). The service was overall friendly and knowledgeable, too.

Works for me. Pretty good food and good beer selection with a nice atmosphere both inside and outside. Bar has A TON of TVs and a really cozy seating area by one end with a fireplace. Very nice. We go there once a month or so for dinner and sometimes after work. Chicken Tacos are kind of tasteless though, avoid those.

This is your typical modern fairly nice, large, has TV sets, popular, in a mall brew pub. The easiest way to compare it is to Iron Hill or Rock Bottom. All are chains. McKenzie's is on a par with Rock Bottom or perhaps slightly lower, and it is quite a bit lower than Iron Hill. McKenzie's beer is ok, but not as good as Iron Hill, and their selection isn't as wide. McKenzie's food isn't as good either but it's better than most bars. I was here twice in a week and drank their IPA, which is ok but lacking in that hoppy bitterness that characterizes the best IPA's. I had some light bites, pizza, vegetable crudités, etc. Nothing to write home about, but decent. The service here is top-notch, the bartenders are busy and they really hustle. I like that.

I waited three weeks to make this post, to see if I still felt the same way. I've always had fine experiences and enjoyed the food and atmosphere at Mckenzies. The other night I couldn't have been more disappointed in the service. Actually, I think it's the worst service I've ever had. The hostesses could barely muster smile and then when she walked us over to our less than desirable noisy bar table and we has to be moved to the dining room she replied, "well, I guess. There's like a private party in there..." We said never mind. Our server was even worse! He came over to take our order before we were ready, and then after that we had to flag him down after several minutes just to take her appetizer order. Getting him to take our dinner order was a chore as well. The food was good, but overshadowed by this abysmal service experience. After we finished our meal, we sat with our dirty plates for about 10 mins as we watched our server count his tip money from across the room. He was in the middle of the bar -- Appalling! We had two or three busboys and they were equally rude, all but one. He actually smiled and spoke to us. Train your staff! That's all I can say...

Service: For the first time in a long time in a restaurant, we had a server who didn't just walk up to the table and start talking without regard to our conversation. Joe gets a 5. Food: I had Mediterranean salad, which was a little bland. Nice variety of entree salads. My salad gets a 3. Ambience: booth for two under skylight at sunset. Quiet enough except for occasional shriek from an infant. Beats the high decibel drone from the room with the bar. Cloth napkins. I hate it when i get used to the light level in a room and then at some unexpected moment someone adjusts t sharply down. Combined with the sun having gone down this is a sharp drop in light. If the light had diminished because of the sun having switched jobs with the moon, that would have been gradual. How about investing in a SLOW automatic dimmer if you think that improves the exprience? Ambience gets a 3.

We had a great meal here last night. Our server was helpful with both beer selection and food suggestions. The beer was particularly good. I had the Multigrain Saison, which was a treat. The food was well-cooked and quite enjoyable. The cedar plank salmon was flavorful and my husband's chicken sandwich w buffalo sauce and sharp provolone was perfect. We sat in the bar area and it was spacious and beautiful. Despite the distance from our house, we will be returning.

We used to love McKenzie's but the past five or so times we've been there everything has really gone down hill. The service has always been okay, but it concerns me that every time I'm there the front of the house staff seems to all be white and everyone in the kitchen is non-white. Surely that didn't happen by accident... Also the food has been actually BAD lately. The pita from the chicken pita is always stale. Everything on the chicken pita comes mixed together (yuck) so you can't see that the single ingredients are actually fresh and beautiful. Mixing everything up also causes the tzatziki to make the chicken COLD (like out of the refrigerator cold...). Seriously? No one wants a COLD chicken pita... Also what's up with not seasoning the chicken at all? We've had many other sub-par dishes here, but it will suffice to say that we won't be going back until they bring back the blackened chicken pizza because that is what everyone in our group loved about this restaurant...

If you are going to this location, I'd recommend a burger and fries and a seat at the oversized (and pretty cool-looking) bar. However, if you can go to the Malvern location, it's a better value and better meal.

Honestly, I love the place but I only go to the bar. I've never sat at a table. My wife and I go regularly and find the staff at the bar attentive and friendly.

The west Chester location is fantastic but this location is not even close. The service is always slow and the food is just OK. They need better management and hire smart and friendlier people.

Meh. Poor service and the food is nothing special. Very loud with the music -- makes it impossible to talk.

Yum!

I love the food here. They have so many choices. I think their beer is so so and mostly too hoppy. Try their chicken pot pie.
