Pizza is average. Pasta dishes have MUCH to be desired. Service, well... Sucks. Don't take kids here if they don't want pizza - they don't seem to understand when kids want something different and, dare I say it, healthy. My son asked for pasta with a little butter and I swear it was floating in butter.

This place was recommended to me by my mom and my friend's mom. A good bang for your buck. I had the spinach salad. My Friends had the crab ravioloi and lasagne. Everything was delish!

the service was craptastic. waited 45 for food in a packed place. lady said pizza would be 45m to 1hr after we sat down..... but we didnt order pizza. waitstaff never told us our waitress WAS DOING DISHES. took an hour to get check. AN HOUR! wedding soup = good. food = above average. service = garbage. wont go back.

Went on Saturday to try it for the first time. We will definitely go back soon! We started with the garlic toast - so yummy! I had a bowl of wedding soup. It had great flavor! I had lasagna. WOW - it was fantastic! And the portion size is huge. I couldn't finish it but I did try! The hubby had an Italian hoagie and very much enjoyed it! It is small but we did not have to wait. We were there around lunch time. We will definitely visit again soon!

First, I have only had the pizza here, and only for take-out. The pizza is good - not the best I've had but better than your average pizza place. The toppings are always fresh and the crust is always crispy. I'd say the crust is a medium thickness kinda crust - not thin, but certainly not like those fake, deep dish, wanna-be-called-pizzas they make in Chicago. The place gets pretty crowded in the evenings, especially on weekends. If you're in the area, it seems like a great place to try.

Today I stopped in once again to come back to my favorite Italian restaurant. I was looking forward to eating my favorite penne pasta. Although the food was good, I was disappointed with the service. It took ten minutes to get our drinks. I went to the bathroom and it looked like it hadn't been for attended to in a week. It wasn't very clean. All in all this lowered my expectations for the next time I will come back.

Best Food ever!! I heart this place and can eat the lasagna for three meals. Also a must have is the Italian sampler.

We visited the olive and pepper I liked the clean bathroom and the chairs and table were clean as well. We ordered soup yum side salad and split lasagna dinner. Our only complaint would be that I'm guessing through the reheating of our dish our top and bottom noodel became over cooked and hard. We will however go back.

Used to be BYOB. Now it is not. You pay $8.50 for a very small portion of wine. The steak sandwich was tough. Capicolla Sandwich was ok but greasy.. I feel if they are going to be that cheap with a glass of wine, then they do not want me to go back. I will not return.

Simply the best Calzone we have ever had period!!!!. We stopped in today in the late afternoon for an early dinner. We had a Calzone and a pizza. I can say that we have traveled the world extensively and have eaten pizza everywhere we have ventured. This is the best and every once in awhile you discover something special. This place is special!!! I hesitate to post this because when the word gets out we will never be able to get a table. Its that good.

My family and I went to dinner at Olive & Peppers tonight. We waited about 15 minutes for a table, the hostess was busy but pleasant. The service was very good. We had the bruschetta, it was ok. Not great. All the other entrees were good / above average. Pasta w/ meatballs, calzone, manicotti & pizza. The red sauce was unique and flavorful. Not like the cookie cutter sauces at Bravo, Atria's or Olive Garden. The Portions were very large, a great value for the price. I would go back.

How do I post no stars?...dirty, dirty, dirty and flies. Did I mention dirty? The food was pretty good and the staff was friendly but the flies trying to get in our food was annoying.

Great Italian food! If you like Alfredo it is fantastic here! Add ons for certain meals to customize and quaint atmosphere.

Food is fantastic, they just need for space. The wait is always long for everything- a table, drinks, salad, food, check... Quality and portions make it worth the wait every time.

Excellent fine/casual dining and take out pizza. The food is fine and the atmosphere is casual. Great entrees, wine and craft beers. Their pizza is unique and stands out from chains. A take out pizza and antipasto salad makes for a great meal.

I definitely think that this is an overrated restaurant and the fact that people flock there is testimony to the complete lack of Italian restaurants in the north hills/cranberry area. The food is OK but nothing to suggest that waiting over a half an hour is worth it. One thing that really, really bothered me was the lack of bread! Who doesn't love fresh Italian bread and butter?? Its one of the best parts of the Italian dining experience in my book. They do give bread but only 1 slice per person that ordered a *meal*. And if you ask for more you get just 1 more slice! Now-I have little kids and the bread before the meal is enough to fill them a little and keep them occupied. I have never NOT been give bread for them.

Got a gift certificate for Christmas for this place. Today the wife and I tried it for lunch. First the bad: -the building itself sucks: too small, goofy layout. -restrooms are adequate, that's about it. But I'm not an architect, and I didn't go there for the "ambiance". As long as the food is good and there's a place for me to take a leak I could care less about the building. Now............the FOOD: It was good. It was omg good! I had the lunch special: you pick a salad, you pick a dressing, you pick a pasta, you pick a sauce. It's served with bread(and for ten bucks you can't beat it with a stick) -salad with hot bacon dressing was good. -bread was good (would've been better had it been Mancini's, but whaddya want for $10?) -cappellini with bolognese sauce was EXcellente! It was so good I am tempted to order it again on my next visit. I won't, though. The pizza that fellow diners were eating looked really good. Must.....................try.....................pizza. My wife had the salmon salad. She said it was very good. Service wasn't outstanding, but it was ok. I will definitely return. If you don't like crowds/waiting to be seated, go for lunch.

The food here is so delicious. It is worth the wait. I recommend going at lunchtime there is less of a wait. Every morning the owner goes to the south side to pick up fresh ingredients for their food. Everything is homemade and fresh. So delish! Also, the restraunt is small and intimate. Perfect for dates or getting together with friends but not necessarily best for kids. The place is a little pricey but you get what you pay for. One large calzone feed me and my friend two meals a piece. Some courses I feel are a little small for price but overall the portions are quit large!!!! PS. Try the calzones!

We recently ordered takeout from O&P and it was amazing! The pasta portion size was huge and still had a nice presentation. Will be back soon.

Tonight was a huge disappointment. Online they say they are opened until 10pm. At 8:56pm we walked in (other tables were still seated) and we were told the kitchen closes at 9am. "Okay" we said, knowing it was just a few minutes prior, but assumed a local restaurant would be happy to serve loyal patrons. Well, we were wrong. After awkwardly waiting for a seat we were told they won't serve us. Thanks for nothing. Suggestions: An establishment should not publicize that they are opened until 10pm if a guest cannot begin to enjoy service past nine. It should say opened until 9. NINE.

I had no idea this place existed even though I've driven past it repeatedly. I'm not a huge fan of Italian food as most of the places I've been to offer just variations of pasta and sauce. But I was very pleased in the variety of food they have there, especially seafood. I had the blue crab ravioli and my wife had salmon salad. The ravioli was perfect: a very simple garlic butter sauce with shaved parmesan. It was very tasty and filling, though I could have used some vegetables with it. I could have ordered the salad rather than the soup (a spicy minestrone) but the soup was great. My wife's salad was ok, nothing too exciting but good. We didn't get bread with the meal which I thought was fine. I'd rather not fill up on cheap bread before my meal. Definitely will come back. It is small and cozy, but they also can accommodate groups. I'ts very understated. You can go casual or dressy, whatever your mode is of the day. I noticed lots of families with kids there - the pizza must be good!

We had take out, It was very busy inside. If you are planning on eating there, you might want to use the call ahead seating. It puts your name on the list. You will still wait, just not as long. The only thing that was a problem for us was that we ordered garlic bread with cheese and the cheeses was stuck to the box. Everything else was good. I had the lobster ravioli, it was stuffed with lobster and the sauce was great.

Great food. It's close to home so we go here all the time. I usually get the Italian sampler. My girl gets the strozzapretti. The strozzapretti is sometimes a little Greasy but it tastes good.

Upscale pizza/hoagie restaurant with pleasing entrees and appetizers to boot! A bit heavy on the salt in most cases. Salad dressings seem gummy. But portions are extra large, so order and divide amongst the table.

I live in the housing plan behind Olives and Peppers and have been there on a nimber of times. It has a wait on the weekends but it is a very good place yo get a decent Italian meal or Pizza. My wife very much enjoys their seafood pasta that they have. All in all a bit pricey but WAY better than the chain frozen garbage they reheat at the Olive Garden.

I would have loved to rate this first experience higher but service or lack of it tainted my meal. There were only three tables occupied during our visit. We told our waiter it was our first visit but he did not offer any insight or suggestions on the menu. We decided on starters of soup and salad after we asked what the soup of the day was. Then we ordered a small calzone and a steak hoagie along with beverages. We witnesses a waitress explain the specials to a table near us, she brought bread with the salads and a bottle of water to the table for easy refills. Our waiter did not bring bread. We had to repeatedly ask for water and beverage refills. We sat waiting for a check to be delivered and longer while our leftovers were bagged. The waiter never came to pick up the check or bid us farewell. We did leave a generous tip in spite of the service. We weren't sure if we were being judged as females or if this young man needs retrained.

A nice place to go for lunch or dinner, as long as you can wait or get there before the crowd. The dinner room is very very small and intimate which I really like. There are not many restaurants I have been to with such a small dinner room, but it makes you feel very cozy. They have pasta specials which are inexpensive for a good lunch meal. I have tried their Alfredo, meatballs, and pepperoni pizza which were all delicious. All their sauces taste very fresh and homemade, and anything I have ordered from here has come out quickly, be it lunch or dinner. Working in Gibsonia there are not many restaurant choices so this is a good change from the chain restaurants in the area. The parking lot is super small and very awkward shaped so be careful of that!

Maybe our expectations were a tad bit too high. We stopped by on a late Saturday afternoon. The joint wasn't at all crowded, but somehow we were stuck with a table that partially blocked the entrance to the very small dining room and my bf was stuck in the corner next to a portable ac unit. Service was very efficient and friendly. They have a nice wine list, we got beer and ice tea. They only had 1 bottle of the beer BJ selected, so for his second round he had to pick something different. I loved the flavor of the tea. Very good. We were disappointed to find that they have no lunch menu or smaller sized portions. So, if you want manicotti or lasagna, you have to order a dinner portion. Most people in the restaurant were eating hoogies. Also, they were out of lasagna at 2:30 in the afternoon. BJ ordered the blue crab ravioli. He thought it was a nice dish, but not impressive. I ordered a margherita pizza. It had a nice smokey flavor. Loved the crust. But for some reason, the inner section of the pizza was really damp and totally soggy. We might give them another shot, but we are not anxious to return.

I've been anxious to try this restaurant, as I have heard so many great things. Unfortunately, the service and ridiculous policies made it less enjoyable. My two daughters were not interested in the kids' meals ($5-$6) and opted to split an adult meal instead ($18). When we ordered, our server informed that there would be a $5 split charge. For kids, really? We've eaten at lots of restaurants and they have split lots of meals. (By the way, if you do the math, we would have spent more on the adult meal than 2 kids meals). Plus, server wasn't particularly kind about it. We ended up with pizza, calzone and salad. The large calzone came with small bowl of sauce. Of course when we asked for more, she told us it was an additional $2.50. Of course it is. The food was good but not worth prices and I was unimpressed with the service.

Very good veal and chicken piccata. Only complaint is it needs AIR Conditioning. The wait staff is literally sweating in the food along winbthe patrons. The ceiling fans are useless.

What an amazing little place. I've had the pleasure of eating here on a couple of occasions and I've never been disappointed. The portion sizes are great and the food is excellent. Service is ok but not 5 star. The price is a little high but for the quality of food, it is well worth it in my book. Go and enjoy!

Last night was our second trip to Olives and Peppers and once again, it was delicious! I recommend getting there early as the dining room is very small and they run out of certain items - like the lasagna and manicotti. Last night, I got there too late for the manicotti, so I tried the 4-cheese ravioili. The ravioli were large and stuffed full of creamy cheese and topped with marinara sauce. I really love the marinara - it's so simple and fresh-tasting. I'm guessing crushed tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, and basil make up the sauce...and it's perfect! We also had the toasted garlic bread - a half loaf of Italian bread smothered in butter and garic and toasted and served with a side of the marinara sauce. The homemade cannoli is a must try. Don't be in a rush if you come for dinner - the wait could be long as the dining room is small and service is rather slow. ETA - We have recently tried the pizza and it's amazing! The crust tastes homemade and the sauce is fresh just like mentioned above. Their margherita pizza is fantastic and probably the best I've had in the area.

The food was pretty good - but make sure you get there early enough so you can enjoy your dinner. We got there an 9PM on a Friday night (they close at 10) and were rushed through our meal. We really felt like we were pushed out the door.

    (3)
  • Jamie M.

The food was wonderful! I was delighted and will be back many more times! The only reason I gave four stars was their staff. We arrived around 7 and they seemed to rush us through our meal, even though there was no one waiting to be seated. Though we did feel rushed, we will definitely be back for the delicious food!

Olives and Peppers is simply delicious. Much to my disappointment, word of how great this restaurant is has gotten out and it's hard to go there and not have a wait. They have a very, very small dining room so if you get here after 6:30, you're in for a fairly long wait. I can assure you that it's well worth it though (or you could opt for take-out or even buy their pasta sauce.) The bruschetta is the best I've ever had and I simply can't say no to it even though I know the meals are huge, and I'll never be able to finish everything. Mmmm, leftovers. I've ordered the four-cheese ravioli, the lobster ravioli and the blue crab ravioli (can you see the trend?) They also have nightly specials which I've tried and enjoyed and serve a variety of wines and beers. The service always seems a little slow because the restaurant is so crowded. The only time they've disappointed me is that the last time I went for dinner, they brought my Mom the normal lasagna versus the nightly special, a vegetable lasagna, that she had ordered. Despite the waitress admitting it was a kitchen mix-up, they talked her into keeping what she didn't order because it would take a long time to get her the other lasagna and when we got the bill, they didn't comp her bill or offer her a free dessert to make up for the error.

  • Amy S.

This place is very cozy and nice inside. I liked the feel of the small restaurant. Since it's family-owned and small you might have to wait a while for a seat, but I think it's worth it because it's not THAT long. My friend and I split the mushroom ravioli and a medium size pizza. The ravioli was really good. Usually, I don't like white sauce too much because it's too much, but it was really good and went well with the mushrooms. I think it was a good idea to split this dish because it was too much and I don't think I would've been able to finish it myself because it's too much for me.. I think I want to try a marinara sauce dish next time. We got the Rossa pizza. (Garlic, olive oil, tomato sauce, baby leaf spinach, portabella mushrooms, fire roasted tomatoes, red onion, no cheese.) I normally don't like pizza without cheese, but this one wasn't bad. It was very fresh tasting and if you sprinkle on the cheese, it helps with the no-cheese part of the pizza. Also this pizza made me feel very healthy lol.

Prices are a little high but the portions are HUGE. i had the lasagna which was like $16 - at first I had second thoughts until it came out and was 3.5lbs. It was delicious. My sister-in-law had a spinach stromboli (the 1/2 size) which was enough for 4 people. My wife had the ravioli which was not quite as large. Wine was cheap - $30/bottle. Overall, a very good place - which they had 1/2 sizes for a cheaper price. Dinner for 2 with wine, no appetizer or dessert was $70. We will definitely be back. A word of warning - we went there for dinner at 5:30 PM w/o a reservation - a table for 4 took about 40 minutes. The dining room can seat maybe about 40 people total.

  • Rachael B.

Food: average. Waitstaff: Below average. The food wasn't that great, but not bad either. The pizza was pretty okay...not enough cheese. Service needs a reality check. They sloppily slammed my mom's soup on the table, causing it to spill over. When asked about a menu item, our waitress seemed annoyed and uninterested. Every time she left the table, we all looked at each other in disbelief. A sour attitude doesn't get you far in the service industry...be professional, geeze.

Our 3rd visit to O & P was very disappointing. Our wedding soup was lukewarm & the bread served was stale. The chicken parmesan was also lukewarm, not appealing at all. The cheese was not even melted on the chicken. Not good at all.

This was my third time to Olives and Peppers. This time I went with three male coworkers. Two of ordered spicy Diablo mussels. The mussels were not spicy but still good. Serving was large. I had the salad with homemade Italian dressing?? I never had thick homemade Italian but will take the waitresses word that it was homemade. The reason I gave it a two was that when my male coworker asked for a box she took his food and boxed it for him. When I asked to have mine to go as well, she went to the back and tossed a container to me. I felt that this was rude and unprofessional. Management did not seem to care when I later brought it to their attention. I am HUGE on customer service and will not be returning there anytime soon.

Awesome little spot for great Italian food. They only do call ahead in weekends, which is a bummer, and the place is small, so expect a long wait. It's well worth it though. Great beer and wine selection. Amazing food, all home cooked and delicious. Some of the best Italian I've had. Very reasonably priced. I definitely recommend it, though I think next time I'll get it to go, to avoid the long wait and no reservations.

  • Joe S.

Good food but seems like a lot of "msg" if you know what I mean. Maybe it's all the oil and butter. Pricey alcohol, save your money it's way over priced, your in Gibsonia not Manhattan. Service is hit or miss, sometimes nice, sometimes rude. Small place so the wait is long and there isn't a good waiting area. Reco ordering ahead of time and do take out.

    (2)
  • Kristopher P.

As far as the food, it's VERY GOOD. We had a great meal and enjoyed it very much. Service was great and we didn't wait long for it to arrive at the table. The reason for the low rating is the wait time. We went twice (once take out and once dine in). For the dine in, we waited for an hour and were seated at a tall table top (like in a bar) right across from the bathroom. Not exactly what I wanted for an hour wait. We had many people standing outside the bathroom around our table waiting to use the restrooms. The second time, we ordered a pizza to go. They said an hour. I showed up 15 minutes early and waited another 45 minutes at the restaurant. Again, it was so packed I had to wait outside for my pizza. Very surprised about this one. I will say that both times were on weekends during the 5-7 time frame which is the busiest part of the night for them obviously, but it's a very small restaurant with a small waiting area so be prepared for a wait.

By far my favorite Italian place in the area. You must try it, you will love it. From the pizza to the calzones to the fabulous, huge meatballs to the flat bread - everything is great. Casual dining. Friendly staff.

I hate to dis a (relatively) new local restaurant, because we get so few. However, I had heard great things about Olives & Peppers, so I took the family. I will start with the good: the Wedding soup and canolis were above average, the calzone and the crab ravioli was excellent. The serving sizes for the lasagne and calzone were huge, if that is how you rate good. Now, the bad. The building sucks. It is not "cozy and nice." It is an small, odd, unfinished room with negative ambiance, especially the two "Barstool-type" tables right in front of the restrooms. Five of our party of 7 were uncomfortably cold. My lasagne was room temperature before I could eat a quarter of it. I asked our server if the air conditioner could be turned down, and she said "No, we can't control it," and implied that nobody in the building could. The pizza crust was both good and bad; tasty but soggy in the middle. The flavor of the plain cheese pizza was just so-so. The marinara/pizza sauce used a little too much of some spice, maybe cilantro? For what its worth, the menu covers are pretty gross and could be replaced. Kid's menu has 3 items, all italian, and there are no half-portions. The service was ok, friendly and attentive enough, but forgot small requests for paper napkins and another basket of bread. The big problem is they weren't "rocking it," to get people seated. With a party of 7, we needed 2 tables to clear. After the 2nd party leisurely finished, they longingly waited 5-7 minutes for the server to ask if they wanted the check. Then, they waited 4-5 minutes after putting the credit card in the check folder until the server returned. I waited 50 minutes for the table and 10 of it was right there [arrived Sunday 5:45pm]. After we were seated, there were empty tables waiting a long time to be cleaned while other people waited. I wish them success, but I don't know how it will happen in that building.

After reading the reviews we decided to go early so we wouldn't have to wait. We went about 3:00 on a Friday. There was only one other person in the restaurant and they were waiting for a take out order. The place is very small but it's clean. Although both of our soup spoons were dirty, their wedding soup was very good. I went to order the lasagna and the waitress told us how huge it was; so we decided to split one. Our waitress wasn't kidding it was huge. The only problem was, that we could barley cut it in half even with a serrated butter knife The top and especially the bottom noodles were so hard we we ended up making a mess on the table trying to saw it in half. On a positive note, the part of it that was edible was very good. It seems to me that it was reheated either too hot or too long. I guess I wouldn't know how to reheat a large piece of lasagna 3 inches thick myself. By the time we were done eating the small dinning room was almost full. Everybody was talking about how good the calzones and pizzas were. I can't wait to go back and try both of those.

  • D K.

Wow what a find in Gibsonia! the Calzones are HUGE! The small is big enough to feed two people. I have never had crust like this on a calzone, its crispy, sweet, and provides an excellent pocket for the goodies on the inside. I ordered the steak calzone and it ranks up there with some of the best calzones I've tried. The pizza is also delicious with plenty of variety. If you happen to be up near the butler border give it a whirl and you wont be disappointed.

The food at Olives and Peppers is simply amazing. Everything I've had was perfect. They have a decent wine selection and great beer choices. Only thing I would change is that it was really cold in the restaurant the last time I went (May) and that it could be a tad bit bigger. Although it being so small gives it a great atmosphere and is worth the wait.

  • T B.

Like another reviewer stated, I hate to write a bad review of a local place...but I'm doing so in hopes that they read these and care enough to change. Ordered the Alfredo and Caprese salad. Caprese salad is $10 and nowhere near worth it. Tomatoes tasted soggy and ancient. Very little balsamic. Very little mozzarella (both in size and amount). Not worth it. Alfredo was ok. Hard to mess up Alfredo, though. Atmosphere is weird; bad lighting and not much character. Some high top tables which is odd. Service is good. Drink prices are decent. Pasta portions are gigantic so they are very worth the money.

We stopped by for dinner last night and it was amazing!!! We started off with Foccaccia Ala Salsiccia, which was very good, as usual!! Then for our entries: I had these wonderful Butternut Squash Ravioli's.....sooooo good and Nick had Linguini with White Clam Sauce, one of his favs!!! It would be great if they could have Chicken and Fish dishes!! The only thing we wished would change, would be more seating and parking. Other than that, wonderful dinner!!!

This is home cooking. The pizza is delicious. This is not pizza shop pizza. You will get hearty portions of toppings like fresh sausage and whole olives. There's a wait usually at the door and for pick up, but it's worth the wait.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
