Was back in town for some business, and was looking for a light dinner and some wifi before an hour trek back to my hotel. Panera hits the spot. When I lived on the other side of Trexler Park, we'd visit here frequently. Yes, the food is not 'healthy', but it certainly sits lighter than a burger and fries. If you want healthy food, I'd suggest going to a grocery store and making your own meals. Like every Panera / St Louis Bread Co., the menu ranges across a variety of sandwiches, soups, and salads. And, like every Panera, the baked goods are awesome. I typically find the staff to be pleasant and prompt. Tonight was no exception. Great ambiance. Saw a number of small groups gathered for various reasons - book club, chess match, catching up, etc. Comfortable.

I live in Florida. Learning of a sudden death in my family in Allentown, I called Panera's after 5pm on the off chance that they might be able to deliver food that very night. Richard Hart was incredibly helpful. Not only did he assure me that the food would be delivered, he made all the sandwiches himself and he delivered the entire very large order. He was thoughtful enough to go to a nearby store and buy a condolence card for me with my personal message. Richard even called me to let me know that he delivered the order. My family was amazed that Richard would personally deliver my order for their dinner. I can not recommend or thank Richard enough for accommodating me in a very bad situation. The food was great but the man behind the counter was unfriendly/ unhelpful. Our salads did not have dressing and we asked for butter- both requests he was not nice about accomodating

Whatever points Panera earns for atmosphere (cozy, fireside, free Wi-Fi) it loses on the food. Which is a shame, because I can bike here from my house. It's not that the food here is bad - it's fairly mediocre, but not bad by any means - it's that they pass it off as healthy. Trust me, it's not. Take the Frontega Chicken sandwich (my personal favorite). For a half sandwich, you get: 400 calories, 4.5 grams of sat fat, 50mg cholesterol, and an appalling 1070mg sodium. Double that for a whole sandwich, and the damage is just as bad for a soup/salad combo. This is a 'reasonable' menu item - others are worse. I don't normally take healthy options into a lot of consideration when writing my Yelp reviews, but Panera gives off too much of a healthy vibe to be ignored. Is the nearby Five Guys any better on the health front? Actually, yes. A little cheeseburger comes in slightly better than Panera in the 'bad for you' nutritional data. ( fiveguys.com/Images/Nutr… - WARNING PDF Link). But at least Five Guys doesn't pretend to be health food. They admit to being fast food - and that's exactly what Panera is. Too bad they don't admit it. So, not that the food is actually terrible, but don't delude yourself into thinking you're getting a healthy lunch. I gave up on Panera months ago. If I'm going to splurge, I'll go someplace more tasty. If I need a nice grilled sandwich, I'll break out the cast iron sandwich press I just bought. For menu specifics, see the nutrition guide: panerabread.com/pdf/nutr… (WARNING: PDF link) Note: As Panera is a chain, my take applies to all locations, since the menu is the same everywhere.
