Great little bakery. The one of MacArthur is larger but this one has nicer employees. It's a little hard to find unless you know where to look (the awning obscures the sign a bit) but totally worth it. Just finished a fresh Apple turnover that was perfect. Prices, btw, amazing.

Tasty treats! If working in Allentown I will stop by to pick up goodies for the office staff. They're always delighted when they see the Egypt Star box coming through the door.

This is where my family goes for bread when we want good neo-French bread like those we had in Vietnam. Made fresh everyday - reasonable prices - and it smells heavenly the minute you walk in the door! Wegman's might have good bread but Egypt Star is still my hands down favorite! Not sure what they're called in English but the French name for them is "flute" - looks like a big fat baguette :). The smell of this place always takes me back to Vietnam growing up smelling the fresh baked bread every morning, as well as takes me back to my 4am drunken walks home in Lyon where the bakers rise before the sun and the bread almost burn your fingers it's so fresh, hot from the oven.

The vanilla iced donuts at Egypt star (now just made on Sundays) are THE best donuts in the country. I have travelled far and wide and haven't had one that even came close to them. Buy more than one, you won't regret it. Their cakes and breads were a staple in our family for birthdays and Sunday dinners growing up, and are perfect for any occasion. A visit there is impossible to leave without cookies, cakes or breads. And if it's a Sunday, donuts.
