This place is amazing. We tried it on an absolute lark and I am so glad we did! The decor was inviting and the inside is nice and clean. We sat ourselves and had our pick of some comfy booths. I had the margherita pizza and my friend had a pepperoni and cheese. Mine was excellent, with juicy tomatoes, a little oil, and fresh basil. My only complaint was that it was a tad saucy for me, but it's hard to say that because their tomato sauce is so flavorful. My friend's pepperoni was just perfect. I've never had such flavorful pepperoni. I'm usually not a fan but that pizza was absolutely packed with flavor. The service was excellent, and the prices were great for what you get, especially compared to your other options in town. OH and there's a Ms. Pac Man machine...you can't miss that!

What a conundrum in terms of writing a review and assigning stars. Brick House Pizzeria serves mostly pizza but also features pasta dishes and typical accompaniments such as salads, desserts, and drinks. The pizzeria is located on Sandy Blvd., about halfway between the Hollywood district and the Grotto. I know this part of Portland has a more specific neighborhood name but it escapes me. The service is top notch. They are extremely hospitable, it seems to have its share of regulars (which is a good sign), and everyone in the place seems to be in a good mood. I'm going to say 4.5 stars for their service. The food ordered was good. However, I felt that each of the items was just a tad overpriced and that manifested itself on the final tab. I'd be willing to go back to try something like a simple pepperoni and mushroom pizza. However, Brick House probably would not end up on my roster of Italian restaurants and pizzerias that I might frequent on a rotating basis. The location is easy to find, as is parking, and the interior is cozy and offers up a decent dose of charm. Because it is on a corner, there are a good number of booths with windows. The table seating is thus in the middle of the restaurant. Because of weighing the food over the service, as should be the case, I'd say that it is indeed good, as in "A-OK," but not enough so to make me a fan.

Great place and up to the challenge: double blindfolded taste test of slices from Otto's Pizza (which is next door) and Brick House back to back, mano a mano, crust to crust all the way to the cheese!

In looking for a new pizza place in our area I used the Yelp app to find a close place and Brick House came up. So far we have gone twice and I have to say they are worth it. The dough is thin and cooked just right (I even preferred it over Apizza Scholls...I know, right??). This is a family owned establishment. A word of caution...they serve only beer and wine but there is a bar next door (owned by the same family). I waited for my pizza and was told it was ready by the owner which was a big plus.

Good pizza and very nice inside too! I got the meat lovers. I think they all come with a basic thin crust. Also had cheese sticks, they were good. They boxed up our left over pizza for us too which was nice. Oh ya, don't wana leave out any details, i also had a garden salad it was tasty with cucumbers and tomatoes :)

Terrific wood oven pizza, artisan chef, congenial staff! Virtually all ingredients are locally sourced and top notch. My buddies tasted two pizzas and both we're magnificent. And judging by the crowds on a Tuesday night, this place is doing everything right!

I thought the pizza was great, good ingredients. I liked the crust, the salami was fantastic, house made onion rings and great service.

So good! Stopped here on a road trip to Seattle and was pleasantly surprised. The place was dead but the service was awesome and the pizza very good. Thin and crispy just the way I like it :)

My favorite neighborhood pizzeria! The pizza is superb. Whether you are ordering to-go or eating in, the pizza has always been super tasty and satisfying. The dough in the pizza has just the right amount of thinness: not too thick where it's like eating bread, but thin enough where you can still taste the ingredients. Their pizzas have the perfect proportion of sauce to dough to toppings. Brick House also makes some of the best onion rings I have ever had. When ordering, pizza is done in usually 20-25 minutes. When eating in, the time for the pizza is about the same - it usually depends on how busy they are when you're in there. Service is super friendly and cordial. They treat every new customer here like they are family, making this a neighborhood staple. The owners seem to know everyone who comes in and makes me feel very welcome. If you're looking for homely place to enjoy one the best pies in Portland, this is definitely the place to check out.

Saturday night, they didn't have ice tea, or lemonade, or basil! We wanted to try the margerita pizza, and the owner said, "oh, we dont have basil, is that ok?" Well the only friking good thing about the margerita is the basil! She couldnt have the great idea to send somebody else across the street to Safeway to get some ingredients? Anyways, new brick pizzeria is opening in the same street in a couple of days, (OTTO) so we won't be back.

4th of July evening. Sign on the door that said limited menu and limited service - come on in. It was perfect. We had a chicken garlic artichoke pizza and wedge salads. Pizza was great! Service by the owner was perfect as she ran around helping the five parties in the restaurant since she me all the help go early to enjoy the holidays. She has a great friendly and fun personality. I'd come back for sure!

Came for dinner. A fairly cute place. Not quite as clean as I like and men's room is a little sad. First customers of the day and restroom hadn't been cleaned or restocked Had 2 gluten free pizza the meat combo and the veggie. There were pretty good but spendy. $17.25 for a 10 inch gluten free. Way more than Bellagio or Mississippi Pizza. 2 small pizzas and 1 wine was $40. Too much.

We found this place via Yelp! Thank you those who rated this restaurant and let me tell you...! Amazing is the best word to describe the food here. meat lovers pizza, spaghetti with home made meat balls and onion rings that were crispy and delicious. The meat lovers pizza was perfect. Had a really crispy crust, loaded with toppings and cheese. The spaghetti was fresh and flavorful. Definitely tell it was home made. Staff was excellent and the service was top notch. Would recommend this place to everyone.

Every time we come to Portland we stop in at this pizza place! It is some of the best pizza we've ever had and it's always a stop we look forward to... We always get the Brickhouse combo. The place looks clean every time we're there- actually a little bit nicer each time we're there! The staff is friendly and the owner is amazing! You won't want to miss this place - try it out!

This restaurant is a fun and relaxing and Thana the owner makes great suggestions and is warm and inviting! I had the lasagna and it tastes so delicious and the sauce was very fresh. This place is a good price and has a great atmosphere!

Really good pizza. Crust isn't too thin or too thick. It's just right. Our server Pam was great. Even the pizza artist came out to see how we were doing. We will be coming back for sure.

Went in last Friday for the first time. Upon entering, there was this overwhelming smell of Pine Sol, eeek! I don't think " pizza" when I smell cleaning agents! The atmosphere was cute, even though it was an empty house (it was 5:30, so perhaps the rush had yet to begin). The pizza was mediocre, greasy, nothing at all to rave about. We also ordered "onion rings" which turned out to be onion straws. They didn't even bother boxing up the ranch we requested to go with. Gotta say, not a good first impression. I won't be back.

Highly recommend this place! Stopped in on the 4th of July with our high school basketball team. Service was great- everyone was so friendly and accommodating for the group! Pizza was delicious- everyone left full and happy! We will definitely go back there if we are in town!

Excellent time last night (friday) here. I called ahead to make arrangements for my junior high volleyball team, parents and siblings to have dinner. We wound up with almost 50 people. The staff was so helpful and accomodating. And, the food was amazing. We tried several different kinds of pizzas, the gluten-free, a white sauce only, and salad. It was all delicious! Thank you for a great party! P.s. loved the quaint bar in the back and all the cozy places to sit. I will definitely be back!

We had planned to go to the new pizza place on the same block but when we got there and saw how crowded and loud it was we decided to come to this place instead. I'm really glad we did it was the perfect place to come with our little one. The price was also good and the pizza tasted great. Very happy with this place.

I'm super sensitive to gluten. I've eaten here three times now and haven't been glutened. The people are great. I'm addicted to their meat lover's pie. It's just got exactly the combination of ingredients I hope for on a pizza. A lot of places do gf pizza but most can't manage to separate the cooking enough to make it safe for me. These guys seem to know what they're doing and it tastes great too!

Absolutely love this place. The staff couldn't be friendlier, and the pizza (and tri tip sandwiches) are unbelievable. Can't ask for anything better, great people great food.

The service here is on par with the pie...it's crap. With so many options in town, including the soon to open Pizzeria Otto just down the street, why waste your hard earned income on sub par pie and poor service.

I first stopped in here on Fathers Day and had the most heartfelt welcome from Thana. Having recently moved to the neighborhood I wanted to try someplace local and couldn't have picked a better place. Stopped in today with my wife and we had another great experience. So far I've had the Sausage & Mushroom pie and today we had the Canadian Bacon with Pineapple. Both we're excellent but it's the feeling you get that makes this place so special. Looking forward to trying the pulled pork BBQ, Thana's son who owns the pub next door slow cooks it in his smoker.

Love Brick House Pizza. Regular and Gluten free pizzas are very well made. Jade the homemade onion rings and we couldn't stop eating them. Everyone is so friendly and makes you feel like you've known them forever. A secret pizza gem in PDX.

Summary: good pizza, good beer price, very friendly service. It was completely dead tonight. I got there early; arrived at 5:20. In the hour I was there one other person came in to pick up an order. I enjoyed a couple pints of a local porter, a cup of sausage soup, and a house pizza (minus the fungus). The soup was a light version of minestrone with sweet sausage. Not overly flavorful, but adequate (3-stars). The pizza was good, certainly above average (3+ stars). Crispy crust, mild sauce, and light cheese. What really sold me was the friendly service (5 stars). Yes, I was the only one there, but they could have easily ignored me. They didn't. I will return.

One of the best places I've had pizza at. The owner/waitress there was so nice to my friend and I. She even remember my friend from the last time she was there (2 months ago) and asked her why it took her so long to come back. The service was great compared to service I've received at other places since moving to Portland. The pizza was absolutely fantastic. Their prices are a bit on the high end, but it was worth every penny. I'll be going back when i'm in the mood for pizza.

I had my daughter's 2nd birthday party here in February on a Sunday afternoon. It was a great experience; pizza for the kids and beer for adults! They even had toys and floor space for 18 adults and 9 kids to be active. The pizza is a phenomenal representation of original Portland flavor. You won't regret it! I found this place through a Groupon for a Paint and Wine, which was held there one night, also a fun experience!

Their pizza was excellent! We stopped by after seeing a movie at the Roseway and this place really hit the spot. Big cloves of roasted garlic, great crust, fresh tomatoes and personable service! We will definitely be back when we are in the neighborhood again.

This place is awesome!! Ridiculously good pizza!! We hadn't planned to go here, and they more than accomodated us on the 4th of July. The pizza was fantastic, my uncle from out of town said it was "excellent", and their service was the best. I'm sorry for keeping them late on a holiday, but after a long day of hiking at Multnomah Falls this place really hit the spot. Thank you!!!

I LOVED this place! My BF and I went in on a slow evening, just a couple of other people in the restaurant, and the woman owner was very friendly and engaging. We didn't have to wait at all for drinks, menus or anything. We got their bbq chicken pizza, and it was among the best pizza I've ever had. I think it's the male owner who does a lot of the pizzamaking, and boy does he know his stuff! It was absolutely, unforgettably delicious. Seems like some other people have had issues with service and poor attitude. I suppose that can be a risk especially when you go to a mom 'n' pop joint. But I had a wonderful experience there, and as soon as I have a little extra $$ in my pocket (the pizza isn't cheap, but it's worth it) I will be going back for more.

Their gluten free margarita (I know I'm spelling their version incorrectly here) is fantastic! Made quickly & fresh. Good service. I only wish the decor had been more put together and a better selection of drinks/wines. I wound up going next door while my pizza was made to have a good bourbon. Bonus, it's very close, easy to get back and forth from, and owned by the same corp. Only wish they would have offered to serve it for me because it was literally served by the same person in both places. He went between businesses in back and I went between out front. Odd. But it totally works! It was very slow and would have been a nice accommodation to have him just serve me in one location. Together these two businesses work, only wish they were under one roof.

They treat us like family and the pizza is hella good. We were let on to this little secret from a very picky, or shall I say pizza snob. Thank you because we now have delicious pizza just a neighborhood walk away! LOVE this place. Great for kids and for sports fans.

This is the best pizza in portland. If you want great pizza and a welcoming environment then this is the place for you. I always feel welcomed here, it feels like home. Can't beat the food too!!! Try it out, you won't regret it.

Decided to try this place as its one of the only pizza places in the area I had not tried. We were greeted as we came in the door and felt welcome. This place has a very home like feel. We ordered our pizza and about 10 minutes later we were told that there was a mistake on our pizza. They remade our pizza and offered a free salad while we waited. When the pizza arrived it was really good. The employees there are very friendly and made sure we were happy. Not only was a salad offered for their mistake we were give a nice discount. We will for sure be back.

walk in and there's a sign "walk in as a stranger and leave as a friend" was a very appropriate sign. Their speciality is the pizza; but I chose to order a pasta and a sandwich. Sandwich for my dinner and pasta for my next day's lunch because the next day was my road warrior day. Had the italian sausage sandwich. Okay and easy to eat. Could have used a little more sauteed onions but other than that, okay. Penne pasta with meat sauce was my road warrior meal. The upshot was it heated up great for my next day's meal. My disappointment was they were out of their italian sausage and meatball soup. Heard it was good but they were out :( The best part is one of the owners sat and struck a conversation with me, explaining what the restaurant does, etc. She would definitely make you feel at home. Seems they do a lot of weekend sports bar stuff and also, they support their local highschool and college teams. So, if you plan a weekend, be sure to check what games are on before heading there.

What a treasure to find in our neighborhood! The pizza is delish! We like to get the veggie delight w/ added roasted garlic! Yum! The only recommendation to them would be to offer a wider red wine selection and a couple more varieties of salads. Thana the owner (I think) is a doll. Sweet place. So full I can take a nap right here in my seat!

  • Cass M.

Weird interior but fantastic pizza!!! The service was superb, there was no real wait for anything, and the veggie pizza was amazing. Better then average salad for a pizza joint and a free slice of cake to boot because we were celebrating a big family accomplishment and the owner overheard us talking about it. Will be putting this place into the rotation.

Another great experience at Brick House! The Hawaiian pizza is fantastic.

  • M. H.

Best veggie pizza I've ever had and I love meat! I then asked my vegetarian friend and she agreed and said, "pickled artichokes and not canned...yum". Their meat pizza was fabulous as well. I have had a lot of great pizza (including the hard-to-get a table pizza places in this area of town) so I will be going back to BrickHouse. BrickHouse has the 3 most important thing to make great pizza: Great balance of toppings, Great tomato sauce, and crust you want to finish. note: I believe they do a lot of takeout and pizza for the bar next door so it seems that the pizza can take awhile (we called in for pick-up and they told us 45 minutes).

    (5)
  • Kate D.

Superbly friendly service. Prices were whatever...we were pretty hammered by the time we got there so the pizza man PAUL was pretty awesome and engaging. The other customers there said "this is the best pizza I've ever had" so that was exciting. They have a huge projector tv and at the time they were playing some movie from the 60s maybe early 70s no clue what it was called but it made the wait go by faster. He said 15-20 min and that baby was done in 10 I swear. Also, the womens restroom is fabulous. Dark purple walls this fancy closet that revealed a fancy changing table for your baby's butt needs. This basket with random spare hair brushes, picks, combs, lipsticks you know in case you forgot yours to primp. Little details get me excited. Owners we're super cool, we will most definitely eat it again judging by how quickly the pizza box emptied at the house it was enjoyed by all.

Great cozy neighborhood restaurant. Whether I'm with the family or meeting a group of friends, we always have a great experience. The pizza has a great crispy crust with fantastic sauce and fresh local toppings. The appetizers, salads and entrees are great . I have had some decadent chocolate deserts as well. The service is great, the owners and staff are personable, friendly and attentive.

Dinner tonight with my son. We shared a large salad and had a margarita pizza. Salad was excellent and fresh. Pizza was very good. The crust was light, crispy and the toppings were very flavorful. The sauce tasted home made. Next time I visit Portland I will be back for more pizza....

  • Alienwordz A.

From my perspective and my family's Brickhouse serves the best pizza in town, if you like a thinner crust pizza. The crust is firm and crispy, not gooey and sagging. They offer more toppings than any other pizzeria in town. Their appetizers are worth trying if you are not there for solely a pizza fix. The fried onions rings are hand cut, hand battered with hand mixed batter...it is not the toxic msg laden garbage out of a pillow case sized plastic bag delivered by a semi. The homemade meat balls are absolutely delicious, large, with a mild sauce and just the right amount of mozzarella melted on top. The salads are large and again hand prepared not out of a bag. All their ingredients are first rate. I saw the pizza chef hand slicing pepperoni from a stick of what looked like imported pepperoni. There really is something for everyone, I mean what other place offers mandarin oranges as a topping for your pizza? And you can order vegan, gluten free crust for the sensitive types. They are also very accommodating when it comes to making a pizza to your specs. On occasion we feel like pizza sans tomato sauce and the chef will brush fresh olive oil on the crust sprinkled with Italian herbs and add what we ask for from the menu and it is the best. Service is very friendly. It is a popular place and can get crowded so do not go there starving. It is NOT "miniscule" Caesar's that can produce a pizza in seven minutes but neither does it taste like LC's pizza for the masses so sometimes be prepared to wait. For us it is worth the drive from Vancouver for awesome pizza. Oh, and for those of you who have decried the decor, I won't apologize for my opinion but if that is your main complaint you obviously have not eaten at some of the most popular places in PDX. Brickhouse has a more pleasing decor than the TexMex place off of Burnside with dead animals hanging off the ceiling or a pizza joint in Old Town that has basically no decor other than brick walls and tables and chairs salvaged from what antique stores won't sell, or the pizza place on 23rd named after a state that is void of any decor, or even one of my favorite places Screen Door which has great food but did not consult a decorator. I won't apologize for being willing to pay for excellent food no matter what the setting, because I am there to eat, not have the HGTV experience. I prefer Brickhouse's clean and comfortable decor to faux haute decor that a minority may prefer. Oh and one last thing, there are numerous screens for viewing movie classics to sports to the news, just depends on what customers ask for. Again, I am there for the pizza so if a children's movie is on to entertain the children, no problema. Depending on where I choose to sit I have watched classics from Charlie Chaplin to Lawrence of Arabia, to Jaws, and Duel, they have a library of movies. If I need to watch "the game", I can sit in another booth or table and watch, everything from pro basketball to women's collegiate softball. Brickhouse aims to please and for me that is what it does and does well. Added 5/26/2013: Had the mac and cheese, roasted asparagus, meatballs and of course pizza today. The mac and cheese is second to none in PDX. Loved the mac and cheese from Screen Door and Clyde's but Brickhouse mac and cheese for me is perfection. The asparagus was perfectly seasoned, roasted with just enough of the natural crunchiness that no flavor is lost and texture is not mushy anywhere on the stalk. The meatballs bear repeating, they are the best I have ever had along with the pizza as usual.

My friend and I stopped here for a quick dinner after dropping someone off at the airport. Aside from ourselves, there were only 2 other diners in the restauant. I would agree with previous comments that the outer appearance of this establishment leaves a bit to be desired, but I did enjoy the inside decor. Not your average pizza palace. Very nicely decorated. I would also agree with previous comments that while the decor is nice, the place seems like it's trying to do too much at once. Is it a quaint pizzeria? Is it a sports bar? Is it a romantic getaway? The bathroom (ladies anyway) was nicely decorated and very clean. I was a bit creeped out by the gigantic boudoir in the room. The conspiracy theorist in me had me wondering if there were secret cameras in there, etc. I didn't like that the toilet paper was in a basket instead of attached to the wall. Germy. And... mouthwash??? Gross. There were dishes already on our table when we sat down. They had grease on them, but the table was otherwise pretty clean. We were helped immediately and drink orders were taken and promptly delivered. I am a friendly person and I don't mind people engaging me in some small talk from time to time. However, our waitress was very touchy feely and a bit overwhelming. It put a damper on our visit and would be a deciding factor for me in whether I go back or not. She actually followed the other people out the door and continued talking to them as they were leaving. We also waited a fairly long time for our food and I overheard the waitstaff telling the other table that they were out of ground beef. Really? Ok, so the food. LOVED the brick oven thin crust. That was the best part of the pizza. The toppings were adequate, but for me the sauce was off. It was more of a fresh tomato than a marinara, which is my personal preference. So, based on that fact alone, if I were to return to the Brick House, I'd choose a different sauce or try one of their other menu items which sounded delicious. Parking in the back of the restaurant was surprisingly easy for Sandy Blvd. However, we came during "off" hours so I don't know what it's like during the weekends. In conclusion, I would give Brick House a second chance, but probably not two. Worth the gander.

Bought the restaurants.com coupon to give this place a try. - total rip off don't buy it! Pizza was great! Beer selection was alight, and service was really good. Upon paying I learned they are trying to get off Restaurants.com without luck, another reason not to buy from them. We'll be back for sure!

I have tried this place on 4 separate occassions and each experience was very different. Therefore, I can conclude that consistency is not their strong suit. What has been consistent is the surly staff, that is, when the one person who seems to be the only wait-staff gets around to noticing. The decor is incoherent: Is it a sports bar? multiple televisions blasting in various locations; playland? "family room" has a huge projection screen featuring cartoons and a splash of coin-op arcade style games; or dark and dingy Round Table-style pizzeria? Food quality is also inconsistent; I've enjoyed a delicious pizza on one occassion and on a recent visit it was greasy (even though canadian bacon was the only meat), the dough was rubbery and overall rather bland. I'll stick with Pizzicatto and Flying Pie for future pizza outings.

So RUDE! My husband, my sister and I went here for some pizza. We thought we'd give this place a shot...I mean, who doesn't like brick oven pizza right? Well, we left before we even had a chance to see the menu! We went on a slow night - there was maybe one other table there at the time. We waited to be seated for about 5 minutes. We were finally seated. My husband went up to use the restroom and the waitress came over and took a drink order (still no menu's). My husband was sitting down as she was taking the order...but totally ignored him and never took his order. We sat for another FIFTEEN minutes - no drinks - not even water! So we left! Maybe we went on a bad night - I don't know but I won't be back.

Brickhouse has a serious identity crisis. Part movie theater and part bad '80s sheik, the decor confuses your soul. We began with the house salad, which came with iceberg lettuce, cucumber, tomato, and extra crunchy croutons. For dinner, we ordered mac & cheese and a half Margherita & Hawaiian pizza. The mac was pretty tasty with its blend of cheddar with elbow pasta. The pizza was flavorful but very oily on the bottom of the crust. The red sauce on the pizza was extra salty with no onion, garlic, or any seasoning (probably canned). Service was attentive until they got busy and they never asked if we wanted dessert. Overall a decent place but nothing to do cannonballs over.

This is the best pizza I have ever had. Time and time again, we always leave with a smile on our faces. We originally went here during our quest to find brick oven style pizza in Portland, and this is where that search ended. The owners are really fun, and super friendly! We have been here about 4 or 5 times now and the experience gets better and better. The atmosphere is very quiet and laid back; very casual. There's a big screen projector that we love to watch Blazer games on. There is also an assortment of video games, and boardgames as well if you feel like playing at your table. The pizza is consistently amazing! Our favorite pizza so far is the Rose City Hawaiian. I never would have thought to put cream cheese and mandarin oranges on a Hawaiian style pizza, but I'm sure glad they did! The Rex Reigns is also sensational. Great crispy crust, home made sauces, and perfect preparation. You can't go wrong no matter what you order. I can say with 100% confidence that we will be back time and time again, and we will recommend them to anyone who asks for good pizza!

Using a coupon drew us to Brick House Pizzeria tonight - but we'll return with or without coupons in the future. Comfortable decor and a nice alternative to the designer pizza and more chain-like pizza places. Pizza offerings were varied and reasonably priced. Also a good selection of pasta dishes, sandwiches and appetizers - and a decent variety of craft beers, domestic beers and wine. Expect to wait a little while for your pizza - it's worth the wait! Comfortable non-slick decor and friendly service. Try the Brick House - it's worthy of your support as a small, free-standing business.

Won't ever have the chance to comment on their food. After trying to eat there a few times only to be turned away because of private functions, we finally got our chance to dine there last night. My wife, daughter and I headed over, 20 minutes away from home, in order to give the place a try. We walked in to a completely empty restaurant at 7:45 PM on a Saturday and my first reaction was to leave. But we stayed and were told to sit at the largest table in the place, even though we were only a party of 3. So things started OK....until the half-crazed woman (guess she was the manager?) saw our Restaurants.com certificate. She slammed her hand on the certificate and announced that she wouldn't be taking it. She said the place was too busy with all the diners and band playing next door and with so many take-outs coming in. I thought she was kidding at first, because the place was completely empty - picture tumbleweed and the sounds of crickets. Then I saw that she was serious, She said that restaurants.com almost bankrupted her and that they have a new coupon but that she flat out wouldn't honor ours. She tried some lame excuse to say that because the UoO Ducks were playing, that it was a "special event" and she didn't have to honor the coupon. Needless to say - we stood up and left. I thanked the woman for being so incredibly rude and she said "I don't care. I'm not going to feed you for $10!" At which point I let her know that we were going to be ordering well over $60 worth of food as we planned on taking a few pies home - and I tip well too.. This woman was a completely rude to me and my family and we did absolutley nothing to her except to bring out the dreaded coupon. We will never set foot in this place again and I will encourage all of my friends to eat at places that value customers and know what customer service is. Shame on you Brick House.

I don't know if I ever would have gone into this place judging by the exterior, but we had a coupon so we decided to give it a try and I am glad we did. The pizza is fabulous! I don't know what it is that makes it so good, whether it's the way they make the sauce, or fire the pizza, but its just so good. We went there at least a dozen times in the first year or so after using that coupon. But over time we came to the conclusion that the staff is a bit strange. There is almost always a question with the bill, and sometimes odd explanations as to why (ie: we charge $1 extra for bleu cheese dressing because we have to buy this big block of roquefort that costs a fortune) and the woman who waits tables (I think maybe one of the owners) ranges depending on the day from excessively friendly to a little uncomfortable. The decor and feel of the place is nothing special. They seem to be working on it slowly because something is different every time, and since I haven't been there in a few months I can't really speak to the current atmosphere. They have pizza stands so the pizza doesn't take up the entire table, which I like. The bathroom is kind of weird... highly decorated with dark purple paint and a large-scale boudoir picture on the wall, of all things. The weird just continues with the basket of things you'd expect in someone's home bathroom like lipstick and hair spray. All in all, I went there a bunch when I first discovered it because the pizza really is fabulous, but have stopped going as much due to weird pricing discrepancies and the overall odd feeling I have gotten over time. The amazing pizza still skews my rating above average, though!

Came again on a Saturday night, this time around 5pm and the place was reasonably busy. However there was only one employee tending to tables and service was really slow as a result. It took nearly an hour to get the pizza after we ordered, and we never got any drink refills. Had to get up and ask for pepper/parm after craning our necks for a few minutes to try and get attention didn't work. The pizza was really good, though. Definitely just as good as last time. I went to play in the arcade and they rearranged the room to accomodate some more tables and got rid of some games. Notably Ms. PacMan (WTF!). Too bad. I might come back, but probably only if I get a good deal on a restaraunt.com coupon like I did this time.

Went last night due to a coupon from Restaurants.com . Totally friendly staff. The lady that was working was so nice, treated us like family. The decor is kind of whacky, and toward the end of the meal the place started smelling like old socks, not sure why...smelly cheese from the kitchen? Ick. There are toys for the kids but I drenched my son in sanitizer when it was time to eat, they didn't look very clean. We got some kind of meat lovers pizza and it was good, we liked the thin crust, but not outstanding. We got an order of onion rings as an appetizer though and those were amazing. Thin onion straws battered just right, and just enough grease to make them evil and delicious. We would come back just for the folks that work there, but would hope for a better pizza next time.

I've been here twice, but am honestly a bit surprised that I gave it a second chance after the first bad experience. The first time I went in with my boyfriend at the time.... we were looking forward to seeing the new business where our favorite Thai place used to be. Ordered some beers, food took ages, but we were patient and it wasn't SO long it was obnoxious. HOWEVER when the food DID get to us it was charcoal on the bottom. Literally burned beyond being edible. The older couple sitting behind us overheard our conversation and remarked to us that their's was the same. We compared slices.... yep, completely black and charcoal. We told our server, and showed her, completely expecting her to agree and apologize and perhaps *gasp* even get us a new pizza we could actually eat. She informed us that "that's the way brick oven pizza IS." in a very rude tone. My boyfriend remarked that he used to work in a brick oven pizza place, and a carcinogenic charcoal bottom is not at ALL the way it is "supposed to be". She simply disagreed and walked away. No offer for an edible pizza, nothing. We ended up paying almost thirty bucks, didn't even eat more than a few bites.. and left vowing never to return. Alas, when my mother was in town a few months ago, we decided to give it another shot as we were on our way to a concert and pizza sounded good. Service was still pretty lackluster, but the pizza was pretty good. Greasy, but lots of toppings, and *gasp* NOT a charcoal crust!! Still pretty overpriced I think... but I guess that's what ya get when ya support the little guy. Overall... meh. This place is inconsistent.. and I'm not excited to return and pay a lot for what may or may not be good pizza, and get lackluster service. Sorry Brick House... but you're just meh.

I've never left a negative review for any business but I'm going to have to make an exception here because of the owner/waitress' behavior. This isn't a review of the food because it was just fine (we were returning customers). This is more about the fact that we brought friends to Brickhouse because we'd eaten there before and liked it and the lady serving us (I believe she and her husband own the place) wrecked our evening when something rubbed her the wrong way. I saw it mentioned in other reviews that this woman is quite talkative and touchy-feely. I don't have a problem with that. It kind of makes it feel like you are in their home. She was nice with the kids as well. However, at the end of the meal I pulled out a certificate from Restaurant.com and she totally freaked out. At first I thought maybe it was because I didn't mention that I had the certificate before we ordered but that wasn't it at all. She looked at it and started yelling about how she wasn't going to take it, it was Sunday night (not sure what that was about) and she just wouldn't honor it. She had been so outgoing throughout the meal that I thought she might be kidding. I looked at my wife and our friends to see if this was a joke but they all had shocked looks on their faces as well. I looked back at her and said, "Really?" She replied, "No! I'm not taking it! When is it from?" I explained that I bought it last summer but forgot to bring it with me when we had eaten there before. I told her that I just looked up what Restaurant.com certificates I'd purchased but hadn't used and we decided to come here. She said, "Thank you for coming in but I'm not going to take it." She cleared some things from the table and when she came back I tried one more time because the her behavior was so crazy. I said, "So, you're really not going to take it?" Very loudly she snaps, "No! There is no way!" I was shocked. I have never had anyone react to a gift certificate/groupon/discount/coupon in this way before. And I wasn't going to get into a yelling argument in front of the little kids over a certificate I bought pretty cheaply. She told us that when they signed up with Restaurant.com they were flooded with people redeeming certificates and it hurt business and drove them nuts, so they stopped using the service. I understand that they had a bad experience but I, as the customer, should never know this. I came in there with a discount certificate they where responsible for and they refused to honor it. Not only that but she refused to honor it in an obnoxious, over-the-top way. It really seemed as though she was trying to make me feel stupid for trying to use it. The pizza at Brickhouse is good but there are plenty of other pizza places around. I hope the extra $25 I had to pull out (because she wouldn't take the certificate) was worth losing an ongoing customer. I can't speak for our friends but I know we will never be back and we will no longer recommend them (which we have done many times in the past). Just bad business. We would have spent hundreds of dollars there over time. I should mention that after that huge scene we are getting ready to leave and she (owner/waitress) hands me a gift card and says, "Here's $5 for the next time you come in." Really?! I couldn't believe that after all that (and me being out $25 in cash) she thought she could get me to come back to spend more money in her establishment with a $5 gift card.

My date turned out to be a complete schmo, but the pizza saved the evening. Crispy but not crunchy, thin but not emaciated, drippy but not greasy ... this is GOOD pizza. I complain about Portland pizza all the time, and this place may just have made me shut my big mouth. It appears they're still working out some of the kinks of a new restaurant (the owner appears to be the only server, and she is sometimes ... otherwise involved), but all in all, this place is a hit with me and a definite recommendation!

I finally decided to give Brick House another chance. It's not totally fair to judge a place based on once experience, though it would have nailed the coffin shut had my most recent experience not been great. It was very quiet when we went, which was not necessarily a bad thing. The staff was very helpful and friendly, while not being too over-attentive. We ordered a small side of onion rings as an appetizer... wow! I'd go back just for them. Light and crispy, fresh. Some of the best I've ever had. If only Brick House made calamari, it'd be squidly-delicious. Sort of like giving the finger to squid-famous Thien Hong across the street. So maybe it's a good thing they stay away from the squid market. Keep your neighbors happy. On to the pie: some of the best pizza I've had in Portland. New York style, one size fits all, but definitely big enough we couldn't finish it. A nicely flat (but not too) crust with (pinch me), homemade tomato sauce. It actually tasted like fresh tomatoes and herbs. Great toppings, good quality without being over- or under-whelming. Overall, a great experience. On one hand, I like that the menu does not offer any "specialty" or pre-arranged pizzas, so you have to create you own. On the other hand, it'd be nice to see some suggested combinations. I'm glad I gave it another try, because I'll be going back. Especially since Brick House has great pizza for the same cost as a small crappy pizza (coughdominoescough).

I've been anticipating the opening of this place for awhile, driving up Sandy with my one eye swung out the car window to assess any new developments. Because there just isn't any good pizza in my area. So seeing a place with a wood-fired oven approaching seemed too good to be true. Imagine my delight when that one-swung-eye caught the open signs in the window. Still incredulous I stopped and pulled the e-brake in the middle of the street and hopped out of my car. He called it a "soft opening." I guess that means work-in-progress. So the place was comfortable. Unfinished, but not a mess or anything like that. Still a room undone, and no (gasp) beer -yet-. The menu is small, the pizzas are not huge. 14" with homemade dough. Their bizarre (visionary?) pricing model starts the pizza at $12, to which you can add toppings, but you end up paying $15 (or more) no matter what. I guess that ensures that you get enough toppings. The pizza came out, and looked delicious. Lightly charred in places. Firm, chewy crust, medium-thickness. More California than Brooklyn. Light on the sauce. We got half pep, half garlic and basil, plus tomatoes on the whole thing. Everything tasted fresh. A great buy for $15. Overall, it was a really good pizza. They were friendly. We'll start it with 4 stars to give room to grow into as they finish their vision. I'll definitely be back. UPDATE: I've been back several times. The onion rings and meatball sub are both delicious. The pizza is still good. Lunch buffet felt non-committal, so be wary, but go for it if you're in the mood.

Finally! Real pizza comes to Roseway!! We went to Brick House Pizzeria on a Saturday night for Dinner. Food We had a green salad with blue cheese dressing and a 14 inch thin crust pizza with, red sauce, pepperoni and fresh mozzarella. The salad was very good, with the dressing served on the side. The pizza was also very good, served just out of the oven. The dough is handmade, individually hand spun, and backed in (what else) a firebrick oven. We ate the whole thing. Also on the menu were sandwiches and pasta dishes. Environment The restaurant had both booths and tables and lot of space. The decor had a very warm inviting vibe. Music from one of the local radio stations played rock and roll. Bar They do have a variety of bottled beer, wine and cocktails Service Our waitress, who I believe is one of the owners, was very attentive. Overall Recommendation This would be a good place to bring the family or your friends. Being right on Sandy, it is convenient for people who live in North East or even those who live in East Vancouver and want to break up their commute. It is also a couple of blocks south of the #33 Fremont.

They make a great Gluten-free pizza! I will definitely order pizza from them again. Very pleasant sports bar, mid-west family feel. The owners are very nice and accommodating. Great place to relax, drink a beer, and watch the game or even a movie on their HUGE screen.

I think this place is still sort of forming their identity, but so far I like the direction in which they are headed. I've been here twice now. Both times with a Restaurant.com coupon. I don't normally "double coupon" places but I accidentally purchased two. The owner waited on us both times. Warning: she does NOT have an inside voice. I'm not put off by this because everyone in my family is damn loud, but I can see where it could be overwhelming. However, she is super friendly and attentive. The pizza is really good. Crispy without hurting and the sauce is a bit sweet. We had a pepperoni the second time which surpassed the margharita we had the first. The onion rings are awesome and the cheesy garlic bread was quite good as well. I think they'll get their bearings with the decor/environment soon. It seems like they want to keep it family friendly with video games and board games, but make it a nice hang out for the grown ups as well. There have been several groups of families in when we've gone and they kids are able to entertain themselves without being disruptive or annoying. Kid friendly isn't a concern for us, but for those of you in possession of spawn, this would be a good option for you. Go forth and consume pizza.

Waited forever to eat here, finally stopped in as it is in our neighborhood. First off the pizza was mediocre with the crust looking and tasting as if was from a frozen package. There was no evidence of it being baked in a brick oven. Salad was lackluster. Service was abrupt and not accommodating. Decor is haphazard and dreary with Lawrence of Arabia playing on two screens, one huge one dominating the main dining area, the other in the small bar. Overpriced for level of food, service and wine quality.

Great pizza! Locally crafted pepperoni, got a chance to talk to the owners, who seem very passionate about their ingredients. Piles of fresh cut wood outside, and a blazing pizza oven ensure quality. Highly recommend! Tangy sauce, crunchy thin crust. Excellent prices, and locally owned/operated business -- can't beat it!

Absolutely love this place. The pizza is great, the best in NE, the restaurant is family friendly so the kids have fun too, and it is a local family run business. The couple that runs this place are kind honest people. I highly recommend coming here and adding some garlic cheese bread to go with your pizza!

I liked this place alot. It was dead when we went, which is never a good sign, but the owner was there and very friendly. She brought us a peice of some specialty experimental pizza she was working on while we waited for ours- very nice. Good beers on tap. The pizza crust is the best in town- thin but not paper thin, chewy and crunchy, very well done. A little on the greasy side but it's pizza, what do you expect?

Nothing to special about the place itself but the food was good. Comfortable atmosphere and great for families judging from all the board games they had ready for the customers to use. Would be nice if they had a larger beer selection.

Went there for the first time this weekend. The place was empty when we showed up , and the appearance of the place is a little confusing. It seems to not know whether it wants to be a family restaurant or a bar. Pulp Fiction was playing on the flat-screen above our heads, which would have been awesome if I wouldn't have been there with my parents! It might not be the coolest decor, but should be good during football season and Blazer games. The Pizza was awesome!! We got one BBQ chicken and one Combo. The crust, sauce, toppings were all excellent. I've been eating leftovers the last two days and each slice re-affirms how good this pie is! I'm super stoked to live so close to this place.

We ended up at the restaurant because I had a coupon - otherwise it's a little far North for me. The place is huge, the service was super friendly and when we ordered a super high-maintenance pizza, we didn't get any crap. The pizza was fantastic and I look forward to going again.

We love Brick House Pizza and the great people who run it. We always have fun there while we relax in the beautiful but casual decor. We like to bring friends from out of town there, and they always love whatever they order. I always order the super tasty pizza, but, oh, you've got to try the sausage soup...like no other! The menu changed a couple of months ago so that one can easily select from several different sauces, cheeses, and toppings for your pizza.

since moving to Oregon almost 10 years ago from New York, my mom and I haven't been able to find a decent pizza. Well last week we finally found some at Brick House!!!!! They don't over-do the toppings, and have delicious crust.. not too thin, not too thick, and certainly not too greasy. The sausage is sweet, as opposed to most places around here which serve their pizzas with spicy sausage.. it was INCREDIBLE!!!! We ordered two nights in a row!! This hands down is my favorite pizza place in Portland. Even leftover and cold this pizza trumps all others!!

The food was good, but good food isn't hard enough to come by to ever try this place again!! In many industries, the main thing that will set you apart is service. The folks at Brick House obviously don't care. Their service is sloppy and disorganized at best and the owner/manager was downright rude. I will never go back.

We finally checked out this new pizzeria and it was great! The service was very friendly, the pizza was very tasty, and the prices were great. We really liked the fresh toppings and the crust that is not too thick or too thin--nice and crispy. The only thing it is lacking is more customers, so go check it out!

I am giving them four stars for their pizza, if I could it would be four and a half. I brought some pizza home last night for a small get together and everyone enjoyed it. I am very excited to have a great local brick oven pizza joint in neighborhood. The pizza was also good size and reasonably price, I would say 14" and less than $14 each. I am looking forward to taking a table and enjoying a pint along with some delicious pizza.

My dad and I swung in here randomly on a Sunday morning. It was the day after Xmas, and the place was almost empty. We took them up on their breakfast specials and multiple coffee refills. They had some deal with a carafe of coffee to which you could help yourself. It was good stuff. Clearly freshly ground and brewed, fairly high end. As for the food, it tasted fantastic! I got a special Eggs Benedict with sausage, onions, mushrooms, and, I think, spinach. Delicious! My dad had a more standard eggs and french toast, and he loved them. Generally, he's a pretty tough critic of breakfast foods. The service was warm and friendly, and I know I'll be back to try the pizza. They also had all the NFL games on. They tuned the big screen and the sound to the KC Chiefs game, and I was in heaven.

So, after having had three tasty pizzas here in the past, we convinced some friends to come out and try out their advertised lunch buffet. They seemed to be having a hard time opening - the tables and chairs were in disarray when we arrived at 11:30, and they didn't have any pizzas out. We picked at the salad fixings for a while, then, after about a half hour, they finally put out a pizza - half Hawaiian with mushrooms and half cheese. The four of us finished that off quickly, and then waited another half hour for another. We ate that one as well, then eventually had to leave, since we'd been there for well over an hour. It would have been faster and cheaper to just order two pizzas. I mean, there obviously is no market for a lunch buffet (we were the only customers in the restaurant for the 90 minutes we were there) and I understand not wanting to make pizzas no one is going to eat, but it seems like they're not entirely clear on the "buffet" experience. All of which I could probably overlook if the pizzas were remotely as good as they have been in the past. I don't know if he was racing to get them made, or the oven was just not hot yet, or they've changed the recipe, or what, but these were nothing like the pizzas we've gotten from Brick House in the past. The crust was soft and undercooked. The cheese was very cheddar-filled and overwhelming (and, again, a little undercooked). Massively disappointing. So disappointing that I probably won't be going back again, no matter how good the food as been in the past.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
