We had dinner here the other night while going through town. The atmosphere is nice-- Lots of Mexican tile and folk crafts decorate the walls, booths, tables, etc. I had carne asada, which was excellent. It was skirt steak (arrachera), as it should be, and it was very tasty. The rice and bean sides were also tasty. My dining partner had a burrito, and he really liked it. My margarita was very okay-- Tequila and sweet/sour. Not home made. Too bad. I would come back for the food and friendly (quick service). By the way, this place is directly across from the Round Up grounds.

Should have heeded the advice from previous Yelpers as they were spot on. The waitress (probably the owner's wife) seemed as though she would rather have been at the dentist... flat, unexcited, I watched her walk away from a table while the customers were still speaking to her. Service speed was fine and she did actually offer to refill our salsa. The best part about the food was the price, $5 for a lunch combo plate is great deal. Other than the rice however, everything they served was Old El Paso straight from the can. Absolutely nothing homemade, authentic, or containing character. I guess on the plus side, that makes it pretty hard to mess up. What they do do right is the decor and signage. Lots of color and well done graphics shows that they are skilled in at least one area. Proximity to schools, Pendelton Roundup, and a prominent corner location will ensure their continued mediocre existence.

I ate here at least twice while I was working in Oregon. I ate here before I started using Yelp however, I recall the carne asada here is good! Good Mexican food for a small Eastern Oregon town. The margarita I had here is what I consider "kick-ass" size!

If I could give zero stars I would. We're locals and have been here a number of times. Most of the time the service is so-so, nothing spectacular, but not bad enough for us to stop visiting. The service we experienced tonight was beyond bad. We saw our server, who had the flattest affect I've ever experienced, when we ordered and she brought our food. Our drinks were empty when she arrive with our food, but she ran from our table like we were going to light her on fire. The place was dead, so I expected her to come back and check on us. It never happened. About 10 minutes after our food arrived I finally got up to find here and request more drinks. There she was shooting the poop with the other server. She appeared mildly interested in my request and I was shocked when she actually showed up with the drinks. Never saw her the rest of our time there. $0 tip...obviously.

Staff is friendly, plenty of parking, located in a convenient location, and most of the time the food is great! The quality of the food varies dramatically. Often forgetting key ingredients and serving stale food. The restaurant is so loud. It must be the acoustics of the building. Forget calling in to order dinner, you'll have to scream to be heard, which results regularly in confusion and wrong orders. Note to management: move your phone out of the dining area!

Mazatlan seemed to be fairly clean. I asked for guacamole without tomatoes and peppers, which our waiter did serve fairly soon. The service was poor. Our waiter didn't check back until I was almost finished with my dinner. I ordered #1 (one enchilada and two tacos) Chicken. I was served two chicken enchiladas and two beef tacos. When I explained to the waiter, he said "oh", and very soon brought me chicken tacos. The table of 4 next to us complained they had been there an hour and had not received their food. They paid for their drinks and left. The food was so-so. Nothing special.

Great atmosphere! Great service. Loved the food. Drinks are amazing! We have eaten here many times and I'd have to say it's my favorite place to eat out in town.

Probably the worst mexican restaurant in town. It was super busy the night we were there, a Thursday night but the service was awful. My husband had to ask multiple times to refill his soda; servers seemed to wander around the restaurant without looking to assist anyone. The food was mediocre at best. I will not visit here again.

I have eaten here twice now. The inside decoration is awesome, makes it feel very authentic. The lime margarita was awesome, perfect temperature, salt around the edge and great flavor. The chips come out hot which is a must for a good Mexican dinner. The salsa was OK, it could be better. The fajitas on the other hand are AWESOME. The only thing i thought was interesting about the fajitas is they left the tail on the shrimp. I asked the waiter about this he said they always do that but just ask them to de-tail them next time. I would be giving this place a 5 star but there is room for improvement. The waiter was slow to refill the drinks at the table, other than that he was good. But the thing that got me was the restaurant was a little stingy on the chips. We had to ask for a refill on the chips. We had a party of 4 people and they only brought out 1 chip and 2 salsas, the chips were gone in like 3 mins lol..Then we had to wait another 5 to get more. Also i ordered a side of beans for the chips since they do not bring any out, cant remember if i got charged extra on that...

Was driving west on I-84 and looked up 'good mexican food in pendleton, oregon' on yelp. Mazatlan was the only suggestion. The reviews are accurate. Lunches were $7 or less, many $5, and very large portions. Try the chicken chimichanga. My friend said the enchilada verde sauce was not so great. Added bonus: Great interior decorating, very authentic indigenous Mexican art. Biggest letdown: Salsa was not homemade.

I've been visiting Pendleton regularly for work the past few months. I've been to Mazatlan twice. The first time was fabulous. The food was fabulous, the margaritas were spectacular. It was a 5-star experience. The second time was pretty mediocre. The margarita was warm-ish and weak. The food was just "ok". The homemade salsa that comes with the chips in the beginning are great. I'm not sure why it's been so inconsistent. I'll go back for sure.

Went in for a quick bite. The carne asada taco had a great flavor with tender beef. Chile relleno was unusual in that the chile was wrapped in like an egg omelette, but the flavor of the chile came through and was good.

Had dinner here tonight. Great food and drinks. We had the combo plate and the chicken mole, both were great. The beans are fantastic as well as the margaritas and the sangria wine. I would stop here again if I return to Pendleton.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
