Ding Ho saved my life! I'm not kidding! After five days without a hot meal on the Cycle Oregon tour (I'm vegan - I ate out of my ice chest) -- I took advantage of the layover day to go find some fresh, hot food. I called first to find out if they had tofu and was told "yes!" This place is in kind of a weird space -- a bit dingy and worn down, with red duct tape holding together the cracked vinyl on the seats in the booths, and very well worn carpet. However -- NB -- the place smells GOOD! It did not have any mildewy or bleachy or pine-sol-y smells. It just smelled like good food cooking. Service was fantastic, friendly and warm. I got my lunch so fast, lots of fresh veggies and tofu. All good and delicious. I returned several hours later for an early dinner -- and the hostess/server was talking with her grandmother and handing her a "to go" order. "I'll come visit you soon, grandma!" After looking over the menu, my server said "No celery this time?" I said "that would be great!" She told me that they don't pre mix their vegetables, they are all fresh each time -- so they can customize anything. And while I waited for my dinner, I could hear her greeting people by name, ordering up their "usual" and taking very personally customized orders at tables all through the restaurant. It's a very family oriented restaurant -- I felt like I was eating in someone's family home -- and I felt very welcome. Somewhat Americanized Chinese food but with all fresh veggies and incredibly reasonable prices -- and excellent service! Highly recommended!

I'm a Chinese food freak. I love the stuff regardless how bad it is for me :) Ding Ho is by far the best Chinese food I've ever had. I've lived in many locations and visited 100s more while always trying all Chinese restaurants. This takes the cake. Every time... *Except while ordering take out* My only complaint is that it's in Madres!!!! Whyyyy is this amazing food in such a weird and inconvenient location??! Open a new location (and nicer looking) in Bend or Portland!!!

Great food, great prices fast and friendly service. Great portion sizes, wonderful flavor. Would have liked it if my server were able to speak better english so I could have ordered my food differently. We were full after a plate of bbq pork and potstickers. Took our food back to the hotel and ate later! Very tasty!

I came into this place thinking it would be good. It was decent. I had a small bowl of egg flower soup, dinner combo of pork chow mein with the wet noodles, crab shooters (crab cream wrapped in a wonton and fried) and sweet and sour chicken. I received my food in no time. It was hot and ready to eat. The egg flower soup had a bit to desire. It was runny and tasted bland. The crab shooters could have used more of the crab meat. The sweet and sour chicken was fine and the chow mein had too much bamboo shoots in it. Overall it was an okay experience. The place can use a facelift but wasn't horrible bad. Desiree was my server and had excellent customer service skills. It was a bit pricey for one person at $14. The wet noodle upgrade was $1 but I asked for teryaki sauce and was going to be an extra $2 because they make it from fresh.

Great service and good food. It's true, the crab pops are delish. Stopped here on the way from PDX to Bend. It's fast enough for a sit down extended pit stop and sure beats sitting in a McDs. Our server was wonderful. Kept our waters topped off and when she heard that it was my boys birthday the next day she even gave a him complimentary birthday treat topped off with a candle. A very kind gesture. 3 stars due to the building being an old A&W. Its clean and comfortable but you do have to go outside to use the restrooms and there were no paper towels but I guess I had plenty of time to shake my hands dry while returning to my table. All in all I would return and would recommend Ding Ho as a stop for traveling families passing through.

I've been coming here for years, it's really great. As with all chinese food places, there are specialties that they do well making. I recommend an appetizer of crab pops (the best I've had anywhere, I've tried finding better). Their pork or almond chow mein is great, sweet n' sour chicken or pork is very good here as well. My favorite, a slight spicy yet sweet dish called sesame beef, is really good. This place is now run by family members of the previous owners (sadly they had to move to PDX, great people though) but the new owners are great as well. Nothing has really changed. If you're trying to spot this place, it's an old A&W drive in painted purple along the main road.

Very friendly and warm staff, consistently high quality food with fresh ingredients, and generous portions. Standard American style Chinese food. If the bathrooms didn't require one to exit the building I would consider 4 stars. The Ding Ho Chicken is addictive.

You get a lot of food that isn't terrible. I give this restaurant another shot once a year or so but I'm always underwhelmed. The food doesn't seem freshly made--for example, the vegetables are overcooked. It's similar to the quality that you get from the Chinese buffet at Safeway--edible, not great. That being said, this is one of the busiest restaurants in Madras so your mileage may vary.

Their Singapore noodles are fantastic, just the right amount of curry. Portions are huge and the price is low. One of the best locally owned restaurants in town.

It's not the worst I've had, but bad enough I wouldn't come back. When you are a traveler, a place has one chance to impress you, and unfortunately for Ding Ho, it was a no go for my family and I. Looking back, we were tired from driving, hungry, and it was getting late so we stopped here thinking it was our last chance to eat before the long and empty highway to Burns and onward to Nevada. The first odd sign is, the bathrooms are outside, like an old gas station... which is what we thought it was, looking at the reviews it was an A&W. For the women's, the bathroom itself wasn't too terribly bad, there was just no soap or paper towels left, which had me wondering, how they wash their hands.... I know they probably do it at a sink in the kitchen... I hope. My dad said the men's was not pretty though. The menu is standard Oregon Chinese, again, the amazing (ly plain in my opinion) sub gum, was again on the menu. They had different things on the noodles side, a Shanghai and Cantonese noodles, unfortunately for me, I couldn't remember exactly what the Cantonese region was known for from my Yelp 168 Event earlier this year, Shanghai I thought was spicy peppery dishes so I opted on the Cantonese with a just a hint of spice from the server. My dad, for once, chinese'd out, went to the American side and had a cheeseburger with "everything"... which turned out was just cheese and meat. My mom, surprisingly didn't do sub gum here, but something else, and it was just decent. My Cantonese noodles (the most expensive dish) came with bbq pork and shrimp, possibly chicken, I don't remember now, but while I love bean sprouts (Can only have them cooked these days anyways, so the crunch is what I miss), was more bean sprouts than anything else, even noodles. I ate it, and didn't get sick, but again, my desperation clouded my judgment a little, as the following week a recall was made on bean sprouts for salmonella... I dodged a bullet. The bbq pork was definitely the winning attribute in the dish, and the shrimp seemed undercooked, so I didn't eat them. I ordered a bowl of egg flower and my dad opted for some of the shrimp egg rolls, they were the bigger kind that we find in other places than Nevada, he is obsessed with finding pork egg rolls, which seem to not exist except when he makes them. But these seemed mostly cabbage, and a tiny bit of shrimp. The egg flower was honestly, gross. Crappy, bad chunks of chicken and a buttload of water chesnuts, which I absolutely despise. It didn't have any corn starch to thicken it so it was bland chicken flavored water, with water chestnuts. Unlike Gee's in Prineville, Ding Ho is on our radar, but as a NON STOP restaurant... the reviews say this place is great, but it was dirty, extremely run down as every booth was taped up, and the food was just meh. It was rocking though, but I honestly didn't see why.

We had a great dinner here with lots of veggies! Booths are now repaired and recovered!

We are vegetarians that were pleasantly surprised. The menu doesn't look very veggie friendly but they have tofu (not listed on menu) and made us Kung pao tofu and Szechuan tofu. Both had lots of veggies and awesome tofu. The waitress was a sweetheart, ice tea was cold. Yeah bathrooms are outside, who cares. Asian rap was playing, it was all the ambiance we needed. A good veggie choice in madras, especially if your tired of Mexican food.

This is, in my humble opinion, the best chinese food in Central Oregon. Don't let the outside appearance or location fool you; the service and food are always great and we visit several times per year. We order an appetizer combo as soon as we walk in and then order a meal to share. Enough food to satisfy both of us and typically about $25 with tip

Driving from Seattle to Bend we needed a stop for lunch. We had our dog with us so needed a place we could park in the shade. This was the first (and only) place we saw w/ shade so Chinese it was! I thought the chow mein was very good. It had all the usual suspects but I was pleasantly surprised that it was about a 50/50 bean sprout/noodle ratio. I don't consider chow mein a serving of "vegetable" but this was. The BBQ pork was not overcooked at it usually is. The fried rice was rather boring. It was supposed to be pork fried rice but there was no pork except for tiny little ground up bits and also no vegetables, just a tiny bit of egg. The prawns were not properly deveined. Other reviewers are correct - the bathrooms are out back and they are AWFUL. The service was AWESOME. These young guys bust their butts. They were so polite and speedy...honestly....they were the high point of the meal. Beer selection sucks. I mean really sucks. The "best" beer I could get was a Michelob. OMG. Fast and friendly service, totally acceptable on a road trip in a small town.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
