This coffee shop is a welcomed edition, and replacement of former shop, to the downtown Hillsboro shopping district. Serving up Longbottom coffee, sweets from LOCAL bakers, yummy Hawaiian style meals, and friendly service, Manaia gives customers a reason to keep coming back. The owners and their family are some of the nicest people you'll meet. The cafe is decorated beautifully, displaying work from local artists, and sporting a cool kids area near the back. I hear they have a killer breakfast burrito. I have that on my list of things to try. Finally, it is clear that the staff really cares about their customers from interaction I have had with them. Their actions and attention to details shows their dedication to making their business a success.

I had lunch there and it was as good as it gets. I consider myself an Hawaiian plate lunch specialist, and the chicken was cooked to perfection. The rice was perfect and the mac salad was really tasty. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great atmosphere, great people and great food.

I liked this place. The food was a bit spendy, but it's local so I'm ok with that. The food was good, the coffee was good. Not a bif fan of the liquid suagar though, would like to see them add Stevia.

This place is the best! As an EVERY DAY customer, I have come to love this place the same as I loved my great grandmothers kitchen on Sunday mornings growing up. From the coffee which is out of sight, to the bacon breakfast croissant, to the extremely creative, artisan, hand made drinks and the staff who treat you like family... This place is the best coffee shop in Hillsboro. Hands down. 'Nuff said.

Such a great cafe. We live 20 mins from downtown Hillsboro, so coming in for just coffee sounds ridiculous. It would be, too, except that Manaia is such a wonderful spot that it feels like a fabulous date. The staff is warm and friendly, their coffee is locally roasted and delicious, and they have a small but complete menu that has options for every dietary requirement. Things I love: - They have a kids corner (will be so helpful in about a year and a half) - Their chicken is pastured, GMO-free (really rare, especially for a small coffee-house) - Friendly, cheerful staff who seem to really enjoy working there - Well made coffee Things I don't love: - That they aren't a 2 minute walk from my house. - That they aren't open later - would be so great to have a place for coffee that's open in the evening. For photos and more, check out my review on my blog: wherethesidewalkends.com…

What a neat little find! It was HOT outside and my roller derby team was at the farmers market. I needed something to drink QUICK STYLE and was happy to find this place. Staff was friendly, put up with me not knowing what I wanted at all and made some suggestions that ended up being delicious. The place has a food menu I am curious to try for sure and with such a friendly staff, I honestly can't wait to go back.

Only In town once a month and try a new spot every time. Great choice. Had the chicken teriyaki plate, macroni and rice. Having just returned from a trip to Hawaii, it was like I never left. Fresh, non gmo and full of flavor. Rinsed it down with a cup of coconut coffee. Made my day.....Let it make yours. Stop on by. Great family run biz that cares about the food and the people.

Pretty good place to have a quick lunch. They are quick with serving food and the food was delicious. I would say even though it looked familiar (especially chicken teriyaki), it had their unique taste. I loved it.

The staff is always super friendly. The drinks are good (Longbottom Coffee). The food is really good. I usually go there for breakfast at least once a week. The prices seem at bit high, but it's really filling and they use organic eggs. Lunch plates are also really good. They marionberry scones are really good, and I usually don't like scones all that much. If you get iced coffee it's coldbrew that's been cut with water, but unlike most places it doesn't taste like watered down coffee, which is awesome. Two complaints-- 1. currently not open on Mondays, the one day I really don't want to make my breakfast at home 2. When getting the lunch plate, everything is served on a single plate, so the teriyaki sauce gets on the side, and if you get the salad, the dressing gets on your rice/ meat. Just having the side in a small bowl on the plate would really help.

Let me add another 5 star review. Manaia is a recent find for me and I'm pretty excited as it's only 2 miles from my house. I had a teriyaki chicken/umu pork plate. I added their amazing Teri sauce to the chicken and it was broke da mouth ono (translation: exceptionally good, excellent, tastes like home). Their umu pork was moist, fresh and excellent. I usually don't get restaurant pork because I don't think it's a good as mine. Manaia's is perfect. To top it off they serve brown rice as an option. Being diabetic it was a welcome option. The service was also friendly and excellent. Thank you!

As a self proclaimed expert on the matter, I feel completely comfortable in saying that the spicy umu breakfast burrito at manaia is THE best breakfast burrito around. Not just Hillsboro either. I would put this burrito up against any other burrito in the land with confidence. It's also the size of a small surf board, so bring an appetite. YUM!

Love this place! The biscuits and gravy are only available on Saturdays, and they are oh-so-good. We like to stop here for breakfast before strolling the Saturday Farmer's Market. Last time we were here I tried their lavender honey latte, and I was sold on that too. Definitely a 5 star breakfast place. Can't wait to try lunch one of these days!

This place is great. The food is awesome and the employees are nice. I judge a plate lunch joint on the Mac salad and theirs is the best I've ever had hands down. Start one up in Hawaii.

Had the chance to spend some time there with my little one. What a great little place! Has a kids area in the back, excellent grub, nice selection, and authentic island-warm friendliness at the counter. Can't wait to go back!

The food that I have ordered the past couple of times is awesome. It sucks that they close before I get off of work, but now they open during the Tuesday night market hours. Had dinner with the family and the teriyaki chicken was on on point. Highly recommended by yours truly!

Love this place. Such an interesting idea. Spacious coffee shop that also serves amazing Samoan plate lunch? Man oh man that's a dream come true. I came in and found my new favorite iced chai, I had never had Longbottom products before, so ordered a chai and now it's my favorite. Then had the largest order of their plate lunch that included umu pork, ribs and grilled chicken. had rice, mac and potato salad and it was all just so delicious. I felt like I was at a summer BBQ eating some good ole home cooking. If you are out this way I would pop in for a refreshing beverage and a yummy meal. Make sure to note their hours though because their hours are limited and they close pretty early. I never thought hillsboro had that much to offer me, but pleased now this has opened up. I'll be visiting often, even if I have to drive all the way across town to get there.

This place serves Longbottom coffee which of course is awesome. They have good brunch options as well. The rice bowl is my favorite. Healthy and tastes good. The service was quite good.

This place is UNIQUE and is wonderful, too. We had breakfast, a croissant that was so flaky and wonderful, filled with egg, Tillamook cheese and bacon. I don't care for the avocado, but my hubby loved that part. He had Bob's Red Mill oatmeal and loved it. LongBottom Coffee--and I cannot WAIT to try the lunch! Family owned by a great family...with a lovely story :)

Not to be confused with those other Hawaiian food joints, this family is from American Samoa ( U.S. Territory in the South Pacific, think The Rock or Troy Polamalu ) The lunch menu is plate styled lunches with recipes from The head chef To'a ( Mama Manaia) who is also Danny's ( wife Jessica are the owners )mom. She handcrafts all the salads from scratch . The Macaroni salad is out of this world ! . It has a slight tang and sweetness and is adorned with crisp fresh shredded carrots and green onions. It is in a league of its own compared to the bland macs salads that are drowned in Mayonnaise ,salt and pepper served at other similar type joints . If your pallet prefers a more 'salty' homestyle flavor , I would recommend the potato salad. This is not your average Reeser's or grocery store deli salad. The potatoes are perfectly cooked , and the crunch of celery and creaminess of eggs blends the flavors into a spoonful of salad bliss:) For the meats you have a choice of Organic locally sourced from Ponderosa Mears marinated boneless thighs or the umu pork ( similar to a kalua style but with a more distinct smoked and juicy flavor) . They also offer short beef ribs on Mon, Wed and Friday. Although their menu is limited , what they serve is done perfectly. Quality and taste are equally superb. You can honestly taste the pride that is put into every plate they dish up , the presentation and service only adds to the truly Manaia experience. As for the breakfast the spicy bacon breakfast burrito is my favorite and I look forward to it every Saturday morning . It has simple quality ingredients including organic eggs , hand chopped pico, Tillamook cheese and the house special spicy sauce , it is honestly the best burrito I have ever had. Coffee wise , the quality in the food is just as evident in every handcrafted drink they make. My favorite is the cold brew toddy , they infuse it with coconut water and it will be my daily summertime drink! The family are super friendly people who care about what they do . They believe in support local and have been very active since their opening in the community . Their labor of love shows and I know they will be around for a long time !

What a great new place! Super nice folks who obviously take a lot of pride in what they do. We loved everything we had. We shared a plate of the pork and chicken with Mac salad. Huge portions and super tasty! We took some pineapple cake home which was amazing too. Also loved the island reggae music! Yelp has incorrect hours. Correct hours are: Monday and Wednesday - Friday 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM Tuesday 7:30 AM - 8:00 PM Saturday 8:00 - 2:30 PM Sunday - CLOSED \nnn/

Amazing food, I had the carb bowl with umu pulled pork. Pork was spot on delicious! My daughter had the beef shirt ribs with rice also a tasty dish. Mighty Leaf Tea from Cali is delicious and Longbottom Coffee.

Momma Manaia (her real name is Toa) makes some oh so delicious food!! Chicken (with spicy sauce) and the Mac salad is my fav!! I love that their chicken is free range and GMO free!!

Been here many times and usually have the Ata ("smiling") Umu Pork with potato salad. Not normally a fan of pulled pork, but the Umu is prepared exceptionally well. Tried the sweet Teriyaki Hawaiian ribs served medallion style and was very satisfied. Before leaving, we spooned up some Tillamook ice cream affogato with Longbottom espresso. Everyone who works here is friendly, and I'm always met with smiling faces... Can't say enough positive comments about the staff

Nice peeps.... good service.... I come here once a week usually just for coffee which is organic. They have homemade and locally made pastries but i haven't tried any yet. I get the large breakfast buritto with pork on the regular. It's big, and has simple quality ingredients - egg, cheese, pork, etc...i have also tried the breakfast bagle which was good too. Everything taste homemade. the mixed plate with ribs &umu(kalua stylish) pork, mac/potato salad. I have to say for the price, quality, taste, and location this as best as they come on this side of town. Very limited menu but the quality of food is definetily way better than average, portion sizes are decent and the prices are reasonable. I was born and raised in Hawaii all my life and have eaten tons of plate lunches in my life and can say with certainty that if your looking for a good plate lunch place this will be the best you'll find on the west side. It's about time down town gets plate lunch place and a good one too.

Came here on the basis of the other Yelp reviews. I had the umu pork breakfast burrito, and it is easily hands down the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. I was initially doubtful about how the flavor combination would work but the whole burrito worked really well together! Best part of it was it comes in two sizes so you can get a small one if you don't want the calorie overload, although it was do good I wished I got the big one.

Great spot for breakfast and coffee. I ordered the Breakfast Burrito not spicy with Umu (aka smoked shredded pork) in a bowl as a GF option with no flour tortilla. It was topped with a house made creamy green salsa and pico de gallo. It was so tasty and full of flavor, it filled me for a good portion of the morning. My friend ordered their bowl of oatmeal with fresh fruits and nuts which was also tasty and huge portion for their adult serving- she didn't even finish it. I'd definitely want to come back here for either their breakfast and lunch items.

This place is nearby my work. The food is outstanding from their breakfast/brunch options to their hawaiian lunch specials. I have had my fair share of hawaiian BBQ and I can definitely say that this place is the BEST I've had!!! The meat is tender, flavorful, and delicious! The salads both potato and macaroni are very good and the portion sizes are awesome! The staff is very friendly and the inside is cozy. Definitely recommend this place!! One of my favorites now.

Nice place and friendly people. The coffee is above the norm for the area and the pork is amazing. They even have some limited gluten free options. Just wish I knew how to pronounce the name, lol. I hate destroying the name every time I try to refer them to someone.

It pains me to write this review as being a plate lunch girl, I had high hopes for this place. I ordered the Ata plate which my friend and I shared the ribs and chicken. The meat was so tough on both we could barely cut it with a knife. It tasted like it had been sitting a long time but seeing the guy grilling as we walked up I'm thinking that's not the case? On to the Mac salad, boy do I love me some Mac salad, but this Mac salad was a bit to sweet and a bit too dry for my liking. I'm sorry Manaia maybe it was just an off day.

Great new casual breakfast and lunch place in DT Hillsboro. Danny and his wife own the place and his Mom's the executive chef, basing the food on her American Samoan roots. YUM!!!!!

  • John M.

I am giving 4 stars for the Pineapple cake. The teriyakii chicken, rice and mac salad was serviceable. Chicken had been cooked ahead (not to order),and mac salad was too sweet. But Grandma's pineapple cake was worth the trip. Delightfully moist and flavorful. Hats off the grandma.

  • Kathy M.

I had the breakfast pork burrito. It was large and a good value. The flavor however was only average. The pork was moist but little flavor, no seasoning was used and did not have the Hawaiian smoked flavor I was hoping for. No seasoning was used in the potatoes or the eggs. I would expect a Hawaiian place to have the BBQ sauce not just hot sauce to flavor it up. They don't serve lunch on Saturday, which I don't get since other restaurants in the area stay open after the street market closes. So I will never be able to try their lunch items, which is ashame that I have judge this place based on one item, that is why I gave them three stars. To sum it up: fresh, prepared well, good value, but lacking in island flavor, just bland.

What a great start to my day. I woke up very tired and sore from the week. My wife had a herd time waking me up. She said lets go to Mania's. I'm like great idea. So we went and I ordered the Breakfast burrito and spicy with bacon. It was very good. Fresh and tasty with just the right amount of heat. I also had a caramel Macchiato. Yummy!! My wife got the croissant and son got the same as me. We also split a cinnamon roll. Very good. The service is wonderful and they are so friendly. :-)

It's hard to write a good review for some places these days. However in the Manaia's case it is very well deserving of my 5 star rating. I came to the place roughly a week after it opened. I was very curious as i poked inside. However instead of a typical "Hello how may I take your order". I'm instead greeted traditionally in Hawaii. Everyone has a wonderful smile and such a great sense of kindness. I asked about their menu and were more then happy to explain it to me. As i got the run down on everything. I was quite curious about their Umu pork. They offered me a sample of their pork. Both with and without their signature teriyaki sauce. Allow me the honor of breaking down the experience. I only said one thing to them and I quote this "You just broke my taste buds with how good this was" I am a man of few words at time. So i pick what i say carefully. I was very serious about my comment. The Umu pork was so tender that the meat just melted like butter in the mouth. Followed by the sample of the pork with the sauce. The sauce is not too sweet or too salty. It's perfectly made with love and respect. I respect places like this. They go out of their way to ensure you have a good experience. One such time happened to me. I came in ready and raring to go for some Umu pork. Much to my dismay i came in a little bit late and missed the important time window to get some. However their man who runs the grills came up and suggested i try the ribs. I humbly agreed and waited for my meal. Here is the major kicker that made me truly give this place my undying respect. When they were preparing my order. They informed me that they ran out of ribs. To make up for this they also gave me a helping of their teriyaki chicken on my plate. I was simply thrilled. The chicken was tender and the ribs were delicious. I mostly come for their sticky rice as well. It's soft but not too soft (i'm a sushi fanatic. So quality sticky rice is important). The rice is always just right and perfect for all their meals. I always have my meals served with their signature tropical salad. All in all this place deserves a lot of love. If you ever find yourself in need of a quick plate of food. Come here and order up! I'd recommend their $11 plate. You get a lot of food and is worth every penny. -edit- I apologize for this quick edit. But i just remembered something that is very important. In regards to my statements. Each instance of accounted interaction at Manaia. Each was roughly 2-3 months apart. I've not had a meal there in over 2 months now. So i believe that can tell you the quality of their service. It takes a special something too have something remembered for so long. Manaia has that special something.

What a great gem in the heart of Hillsboro! I went in for a long lunch with my fiancé and was very happy with the service and food. The lunch plate was a perfect size for me. The unu pork was so delicious. The sides that came on the plate just added to the quality. This a perfect representation of a high quality locally owned business that set it's sites on service and nailed it!

Love, love, love this place. Hillsboro is just SCREAMING for good, non-chain dining options and Manaia Coffee House (which I will describe as MCH in the rest of the review) fits the bill to a "T". Despite the fact that there is another Hawaiian restaurant within a few blocks, MCH manages to tick boxes that the other place can't. Somehow, their food separates and distinguishes itself from the competitor in a way that I can appreciate. It's a bit difficult to find. The Yelp map above is exactly correct, though. It's on the northeast corner of 2nd and Main in downtown Hillsboro. Of the few times I've been there, right during lunch, I've always found parking right on Main itself, on either side of the street. If you're going to make MCH a lunch destination, I recommend getting there a bit early. It can get busy fast. The store itself is eclectic. It's... a long and narrow room, with plenty of seating. They can accommodate parties on the larger side, too; I'd say upwards of 20 can sit and eat comfortably at their longer tables. They've got taller seats and a bar style table at their big windows in front, too, which is pretty cool. I've only had their plate-style lunches. You can pick from anywhere between 1 meat and side to 3 meats and sides. Initially, I tried a 2 meat/side combo and it was too much food for a single sitting. NBD, because it's easily refrigerated and reheated, but just be armed with that knowledge while ordering. The meat choices are few, but they're dang good: chicken, ribs or pork. The chicken is pretty standard teriyaki, but it's a home run for me. The ribs are kinda bite-sized, bone in teriyaki and also quite good. Their "Umu" pork is pretty much Kalua style, and I know people love the stuff, but I've never been a fan. I am IN LOVE with their mac salad. It's the sweetest mac salad I've ever had, and certainly not on the side of traditional Hawaiian mac. The green onions in the mac provide a nice bite that cuts through the sweetness, and it's just that good. I've only had a bite of their potato salad, and it was quite good too. At the end of the counter they've got bottles of their teriyaki and a "spicy sauce", which as near as I can tell is some kind of sriracha/mayo combination. I like to fill a plastic ramekin with it and use it conservatively on both the chicken and rice. The folks who run/own the place are super friendly. I wish them continued success in an area that needs choices like the Manaia Coffee House!

Don't try other Hawaiian food joints...you are wasting your money and your taste buds! I had the spicy umu pork breakfast burrito; it was cooked perfectly and spiced just to my liking. The pork was tender and it was plated quite nicely as well. I am so pleased to see a great, local, family-owned business doing so well in Hillsboro, and the prices cannot be beat. Plus, how many Hawaiian places serve high-quality coffee (Longbottom), affordable and delicious Hawaiian food, have fast and friendly service, AND have free Wi-Fi and comfortable seating? Not any that I am aware of :)

My friend and I had the half portion plate for lunch. I had the pork and she had the chicken. Both of us had the mac salad. Absolutely awesome. I will be back and soon. I am fighting the urge to go back again today. I am sad they are not open for dinner take-out.

A little island of joy. Good on a cold November day when I want to feel cozy. I had the raspberry mocha and my gal pal had a dirty chai. I'm super ecstatic that there's a quality local coffee shop near my house where there's ample room to chill out and sip down some warmth.

Love this place! Their coffee is delicious. I love a good mocha and theirs are the best - Ill drink Starbucks, but if given the option... I'll take Manaia any day. Their chocolate is smooth vs. Starbucks being kind of chalky. They make their own whip cream, so ask for the chocolate if you're a chocolate lover like me! They have great treats of all sorts to eat and I often eat lunch there. Ata plate with chicken and lots of spicy sauce!

AWESOME! Just had breakfast with my hubby and had an amazing potato bagel with umu pork, egg, cheese, avocado and so much more. Their coffee was terrific and they offer almond milk as one of their milk substitutes. I plan on coming back to try their lunch. My hubby said it is terrific too. Jessica and her staff are friendly and attentive. Had a great time.

Wow, I love this place. A friend and I were in the area hungry for lunch, stopped in and had the tropic spinach entree with chicken and was blown away with the portion. There was so much chicken, I had to take half of it home. It was so juicy and tender. The salad had organic spinach, cucumbers, strawberries, pineapple, feta and walnuts. The coffee is very smooth and the homemade cake is so moist. It is a yellow cake with mandarin and apple sauce in it and the frosting has pineapple in it. It is not sweet, just yummy and perfect with their coffee. The staff is so friendly and they want you to enjoy your food and come back. You can tell they care about their customers. I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys good food. We are so happy we came in.

I admit, I came here on Saturday because I'd read a rave review regarding the biscuits & gravy. The review was justified. I will also admit that breakfast burritos have never held any appeal to me until that day. While I gorged myself on the biscuits & gravy, my mom got a pork breakfast burrito. Since I am pretty sure Mom had never tried one before, I was curious what she would think of it; she kept saying she couldn't believe how good it was. She let me try it, & now I look forward to going back to get one of my own. The pork was flavorful , the hash brown potatoes & eggs complimented it nicely & the mild pico de gallo reminded me that I was actually eating a burrito-not just pork, eggs & potatoes in a flour tortilla. Normally you can't get my son to touch ANYTHING that has tomatoes in it, but I soon found my competition for the leftovers of Mom's burrito. Because the farmer's market was going on, the place was busy when we showed up, but I was very impressed with how quickly our food was made. Definitely coming back & looking forward to trying things on their lunch menu.

Food was really low quality. My husband and I ordered the chicken teriyaki. The food looked awesome at first, but the one thing I noticed was that the portions were not even at all. I got a lot of chicken whereas my husband did not. The potato salad that I got was ok. It was more liked mashed potato salad, so I was not impressed. I could not finish my food, because there was cartridge in my meat, so it grossed me out. The chicken was cheap meat, and for $8 a plate, I was expecting it to be a lot better. The only thing enjoyable was the white rice, but hey who could mess that up. We also ordered coffee, and not with much surprise, we were disappointed. My husband ordered an iced coffee, and it tasted like it was coffee poured over ice. It was not even close to Starbucks at all. I ordered some blended drink with peanut butter, coffee and chocolate. The few sips were ok, but the peanut butter became overpowering, and the taste of the coffee was not great. I read reviews of people raving of this place, and our experience was not wonderful at all. The atmosphere wasn't that great, and the food quality was low. It was just another place in Hillsboro, OR that we will not return to.

I recently moved to the area and was looking for a good lunch spot; Manaia had great ratings, so we decided to try it out. First off, you'll notice it has near universal five star reviews. We noticed that, too, and let me tell you - this little place completely deserves it. We've been a couple of times now and tried a variety of dishes, and they just keep getting better and better. The food: Everything is made there, fresh, by the family that owns the place. When you walk in, it seems like a quaint little coffee house (after all, that's part of their name), but they serve food as well. This odd mish-mashing is absolutely amazing. The chicken is so tender and flavorful and is served with wonderful, sticky jasmine rice and sauteed veggies. Depending on the day, the vegetables will be different (cabbage, mushrooms, carrots, etc., all crisp - not soggy!). You also get your choice of homemade potato or macaroni salad. Now, the potato salad was delicious, don't get me wrong...but that mac salad is something to write home about. It's very lightly dressed and is slightly tangy - you'll find yourself wanting another whole scoop of it. Their pulled pork isn't to be confused with Southern style; this is islander fair, so it's slightly sweeter, and served on a bun with a big slice of pineapple. In short, it's heavenly. My husband, who smokes his own pork for pulling, said it was better than any he'd had in entire South (where we moved here from). As for their coffees and drinks, you simply can't go wrong. The coldbrew is great, but my personal favorite is their chai - they have a lovely, sweeter blend that has a hint of spice, so it's not cloying. Really, really wonderful. Lastly, if you're there and they have the chocolate chip cookies...do yourself a favor: buy one. Or two. Or all of them. They're chocolate chip, orange, and sea salt cookies. In short, these are the absolute best chocolate cookies you will ever have. I bought one for a lark one afternoon and have kept buying them ever since. In short: what an awesome place. VERY reasonable prices, great portions (they give you a selection of food, so you won't find yourself overwhelmed with too much of one thing), delicious drinks, a great atmosphere, and a warm, friendly staff. If you're in the area, you have to stop by.

Ordered 8 breakfast burritos and had them cut in half for my office's monthly meeting on Tuesday. We got at least one of each and everyone raved about them. One co-worker said it was the best breakfast they'd ever had at the office. Plus we were able to get the entire office fed (and they were full) for under $65

Went here for breakfast and I got the umu pork breakfast sandwich on a biscuit. I was so delicious. I literally was not expecting much but they blew me out of the water. I really enjoyed this place and want them to open a location in SF closer to me. Also the burrito was a huge piece of deliciousness. I got an Alpine berry spritzer and it was so refreshing considering it was going to be so hot that day. Comfy seats, children's corner for the kidos, and the food came out really fast. Chill spot to just hang and enjoy some great food.
