Went to Ambrosia with a group of friends for my birthday last week. What an incredible dinner. The waiter was fabulous and was very detailed in his description of the specials. I ordered the seafood pasta which was loaded with prawns, scallops and halibut, all perfectly prepared and fresh. It was refreshing to go out for a nice dinner in Eugene and have everything so wonderfully prepared and presented. Great service, great food and will be going back for another special occasion soon.

Ambrosia is a seemingly quaint place with open space. Arched windows, hardwood floors and dim lighting greet you. It is much bigger inside than it looks from outside. I had scallops for dinner and they were nicely prepared, mildly seasoned and seared. I had dinner here with my co-worker as we were traveling for work. I do t recall what he had, but commented that he was very satisfied with his meal. I had a fresh ginger and soda water drink - A nice alternative to standard soda. The waitress checked in with us, but was not overbearing. After dinner we drank beer up at the bar. There were several Oregon brews on tap. Mary, our barmaid, provided a few samples to us. Mary was great, put up with our weird Houstonian humor and told us stories /helpful info when she had a chance. The rest of the staff we saw, from management to servers, were a friendly sort. They were fun and would chat when they had time. I don't usually like to visit the same places twice when I visit a town, but I would visit here again if I had the chance.

Visiting Eugene for U of O orientation and stumbled upon this place. The food is delicious. Ordered the Salmon and Risotto special. Yum! Salmon was cooked perfectly! Son ordered the pulled pork pizza and devoured it! They have a really pretty bar. Very nice ambience. Seated quickly and service was great. Prompt and courteous. I will come back!

What a cool name: Ambrosia. Cute looking place. Crowded as heck inside & TINY tables. Servers act clueless & act like they can size me up as a bad tipper by my shoes, or something. I may not be a snazzy dresser but I do tip. I just want service if I'm going to spend TOP dollar!!!! I'm so sorry this is a one star review. I don't like to hate on anyone. I wanted to love this seemingly adorable Restaurant. I wanted a new favorite in my new town (2004 experiences). And I certainly wanted to love every dollar spent but the staff left me so disappointed. Terrible service & suprisingly mediocre food for a place called Ambrosia! Good call on the flatware in another review!!! Super LOL. BTW: I was so mad at the feeling I had that the servers (I tried this place 2x cuz I so wanted to love it) acted like I wasn't worth their time, I tipped 10%. I almost always tip 20% (more if the meal is cheap with sit down service) for fair service. I just couldn't leave without tipping, cuz it would make them that much more smug. Even if I won the lottery, I would not go back to this place.

Amazing!!! I've had their pizza which was sooo good! I loved the wood fired taste and crust was perfect. I also had to get the pan seared scallops because I love scallops and they did not disappoint. I'm still thinking about them. The sauce was perfect and creamy. Service was great and I loved the atmosphere. Great for a date night but still chill enough to not feel stuffy. I can't wait to go back.

Two years later and the same thing has happened... we arrived for our reservation a few minutes early to a nearly empty restaurant and told that we would be seated only at 5:30 on the dot and to take a seat to wait. When asked why, the hostess informed us that due to a large party (the only party in the place was about 6 people) already seated it would be terribly hard on the wait staff and kitchen to seat us before our reservation time. I struggled to make any sense of this, as a woman and her daughter who came in right after us without a reservation were immediately seated. How does making a reservation wait while seating walk-ins help the kitchen? Is there not enough kitchen staff in the first place? Why aren't the customers as important as the wait and kitchen staff? Why is there no manager or a manager who actually manages the place? When it became obvious to the hostess that we were not pleased she grudgingly seated us with a snide "You are being seated 5 minutes early!" The food itself was delicious. I had Tradizionali Penne con Salsiccia, my husband had a calzone. The wait staff was attentive throughout the meal. However, as we neared the end of dining, the wait staff bustled our plates away whilst mid-bit. My dad had to snatch his piece of pizza as the plate was being removed. First they don't want to seat us, then they want us to hurry up and leave. I just don't understand what has happened to Ambrosia, and with so many other options to choose from where the staff is actually happy to seat parties, five minutes early or not, it will be a while before we return.

Great restaurant. The service was excellent for our large party. The food was outstanding (although I would have liked to see a few more choices). Be warned that it is crowded and on the noisy side. Overall, a great place for dinner out in Eugene.

The bread and dip to start is very good. The meals are relatively standard- nothing very extraordinary. The pineapple mojito is a summer favorite- even if at not on the current drink menu.

I've been here quite a few times for lunch and dinner and it is usually pretty good; there have been times that I've gotten some lackluster service but the food is generally excellent. I tend to stick with the specials since they are usually the best options, although they have some stellar items on their everyday menu: the Insalata Pistachio is very tasty and their Crab Stuffed Mushroom appetizer is prepared very well - flavorful and tender; the cheese plate is usually a good bet as are the roasted olives. As far as entrees on their everyday menu I would go for the Lobster Ravioli or the Wild Mushroom Agnolotti although the Pan-Seared Scallops have been good as well. I will say that over the years I have had some mixed experiences here, particularly in more recent times which is why they get 3 stars. Some of my worse experiences may have been due to new staff - e.g. french onion soup coming sans bread and cheese, which makes it really just onion soup - but those things need to be caught by their trainers or the kitchen staff. They are always very gracious when errors or complaints are brought to their attention, so that is a big plus.

Ambrosia is my favorite restaurant in Eugene. Every time my parents are in town, this is our go-to place. This restaurant is also favorited by many of my friends and any time we have a special occasion, this is the first place that comes to mind. For an italian restaurant with amazing food, the prices can't be beat. The service is always top-notch and they go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and served throughout your time there. The only downside about this place is that it gets crowded, so be sure to make a reservation far in advance.

I have been coming to Ambrosia for going on 10 years now. I love love love this restaurant. It is one of my top favorites. My favorite dish to get is the fettuccine davide. Also their salads are amazing and their blue cheese is homemade and out of this world. The bread is awesome as well. The servers are awesome. I have come in a lot over the 10 years, dining in and taking food to go. Both ways of eating here the food is always amazing. My dessert favorite is the chocolate mousse. I don't drink but very rarely but their hard strawberry lemonade is bomb.

This place is great!!!!! The atmosphere is very authentic and old fashioned. Alot of character to the building. It almost looks like a museum, but in a good way! They even have there own bakery in the back, were they make there bread fresh, all pastries and desserts, and croutons. I know that they make all of there salad dressings fresh from scratch snf use alot of organic products, including the fresh spring salad mix. The soups are all made fresh daily and you can tell. There is always a fish special, s pasta special , and a steak special. It's good, fresh food!!!! And the wine list is very underrated. The wine manager really knows his stuff, and the staff is very informative about the selections as well. The desserts are very light and delightful. Even the coffee and espresso drinks are great. This is my kind of place, give it a try a few times, a great place to impress a date.

I first have to say- the wait staff are fabulous! Here's the bad news:the food is simply INEDIBLE. Awful. Disgusting. Terrible. Flavorless Sauces. Undercooked pork. Raw vegtables that taste like fish. I can't believe they charge for their food- especially those prices! It;'s too bad since the wait staff really are great and I love the room below.

I've been going to Ambrosia for many years, and the ONLY reason they don't get a five star rating from me is the lack of true wheelchair access in the restroom. One can get a small manual wheelchair into the stall, but it won't close behind the chair. Add to that, this stall is RIGHT in front of the bathroom's main door, so even if you don't have a problem peeing in front of strange women, you just might when the closest tables can see you sitting on the toilet. Bad form. Having said that, I have dined here as a couple, a family, and a large group. The food is excellent, the staff are very knowledgeable about the menu (and good wine pairings), and the ambiance is incredibly rustic and homey. I have eaten here for lunch and dinner, and the food is always very consistent.

The staff and owner lacked an important 'ingredient' when it comes to running a restaurant: people skills! The meal was average, or a tad below - not particularly good and a bit expensive for what was presented. But what really stood out is the sour personality of the operator (especially toward customers AND staff). Won't recommend or visit again!

Really cute restaurant downtown Eugene. We enjoyed the complimentary olive oil, balsamic & garlic that they served when we arrived.I ordered the special seafood pasta - they don't hold back on their portions. They kind of rushed us at the end of the meal, think they were trying to seat another party. Other than that I thought that the service was great. Great atmosphere, very cozy. I'd go there again.

Sometimes the website makes the restaurant look better than it is...it is ALL about expectations! Unfortunately what was represented on the site was much more than offered in person. I had a pizza and salad and they were both good food. Just nothing special in my opinion. Good service at the bar. I'd go back, just not expecting the volume of food represented on their website!

Loved it! Visited Ambrosia with my boyfriend and his family who were visiting from Los Angeles. None of us had visited Ambrosia but it turned out to be as good as I had heard. We went for a late dinner, and the staff (waiter Chad) were super friendly, and since they were out of regular bread served us a focaccia pizza that was to die for. The wine list was also great, and we enjoyed the various bottles that our waiter recommended. Although my Mushroom Ravioli was behind due to a mix up in the kitchen, but once it arrived it was completely unique and I was very happy with it. Overall good experience and our whole group loved it.

IF you want good food, and GREAT service and you find yourself in front of this place, walk across the street to cafe Zenon, they know how to make a night out enjoyable for customers, and have quality food and professional servers. Food is merely ok at Ambrosia. The pizzas were the best dishes but not impressive. The service was terrible though. I tried this place on a groupon deal, which I am thankful for, b/c I would have been super angry had I paid so much for a dinner and gotten the horrible service that I got. IF you have KIDS-- DON'T GO THERE!, not a kid friendly vibe at all. It is not what I would call a formal place in any way whatsoever, it is very casual, but I was heart broken to see my 3 year old who is very social try to engage the indifferent server. The service clearly is lacking in the restaurant from the top down, Our server (who was terrible) was the manager. So Clearly there is no room for hope. If you want good italian in Eugene, I recommend the Ox & Fin, if you dont mind spending a little extra, and Beppe and Gianni's Trattoria off 19th is awesome.

Went to Ambrosia for the first time tonight. My experience was horrible. My food was bland and on the chillier side. When asked about dessert a friend was interested in ordering a Creme Brûlée, our server respond by saying "We are all out, you can blame the 30 Japanese people in the back room for that". His comment offended multiple people in our party, some of which were part Japanese. When I spoke to the owner he shrugged it off as a misunderstanding and tool no accountability. He approached out table a few minutes later to introduce our new serve, we stated that we did not need one as we were paying and then leaving. A friend asked if he understood why we were upset, the owner became defensive and started yelling and shaking his finger at my friend before just walking away from the conversation. I will not be returning to Ambrosia ever again. I refuse to support business that allows employees to make such off handed racial remarks to customers or that has a owner that will yell at his patrons.

We waited for 2 1/2 hours before we got our food. Was told by our waitress that she would bring us bread to go with our clam appetizer, waited and waited. She never brought it, had to ask another waitress. By then our clams where cold (not to mention chewy). Ordered spagetti for our one year old to come out ASAP, got it with the rest of our food (2.5 hours later). Food was bland if not disgusting (seafood pasta). Poor service, poor food...won't be back. Do not waste $200, you literally would be better off going to Applebee's, lol!

Yew-Jean, I Love You But you're bringing me down Yew-Jean, I Love You But you're freaking me out Like a death of the heart Jesus, where do I start? ... But you're still the one pool Where I'd happily drown --LCD Soundsystem, 'New York, I Love you' (adapted for my hometown) Ambrosia is Eugene at its finest. Prime, downtown real estate. Beautiful building, dripping with history. Case in point, I was sitting on the shores of Swan Lake (NW Montana) one summer and ended up in a conversation with an 85+ year-old gentleman who used to work downtown, at the Hardware store in the Quackenbush building. At that time, both he and I had been away from Eugene for awhile...and the sparkles in our eyes as we talked about E. Broadway were real, and deeply felt. But, Ambrosia. The magic ends there for me. Please, PLEASE start sourcing better product, bring back Spaghetti Athena, and cater to a downtown lunch crowd ($10 and under specials, anyone? Anyone?). If you were in any other city/town, people would have stopped talking about you long ago. I'm sorry, I know it hurts. But I say it because I love. My last meal here a couple of weeks ago was a DEFINITE one-star affair. But, I'm leaving my rating at two-stars because I found hope on this last visit...a glimmer, a promise of some change. You see, the restaurant has started a "1st Wednesday wine tasting" (next one set for 6/1/11: ambrosiarestaurant.com/e… ). Patrons will be able to taste 10 wines, and will be fed light appetizers from 5:30 - 7pm for a mere $15 per person. Now this seems like a good direction, Ambrosia. Their wine lists here are extensive, and should be showcased. So, c'mon, friend. Keep moving in the right direction. You'll always keep your true loyal followers...but the rest of us might find reason to officially "move on," without some re-invention here.

The best dinner four of us had on a two week road trip. Every single thing was top notch. Everything from the stuffed mushrooms starter to the berry cobbler was excellent. Crab Stuffed Mushrooms, Salmon and Risotto, Pizza Ambrosia, Piadina con Rucula, Fettuccine Davide. Better than Kuleto's in S.F.

I complained about the service so the Owner called me at work to ridicule me!!! He told me that he was going to find ME on yelp and give me a bad review (?) I won't bother with this place again. You can surely find a place to eat where they won't follow up with threats.

I have had several pleasant dinners this year at Ambrosia. The waitstaff are clearly professionally trained, which is unusual for Eugene, and quite pleasant. No problem with a special request due to food allergies. Loved the halibut, well-presented and tasty. Lovely salads. My companion had an excellent filet. As Eugene area goes, very good, will send my friends.

Between the hostile male host, the bland chicken ceasar, and the happy hour $3.75 vodka that was literally 3 small sips, I give this place a very low one score and that is being generous.

We had dinner with another couple last week here. The food was good and the service was excellent. We sat in the back room, all the tables have straight backed wooded chairs without any padding. I had to tryand I had to try several different chairs until I found one that was comfortable for me to sit in. Even then after sitting on the chairs for about an hour we were not inclined to linger and talk. We all needed to get up and move about. This place was more expensive than I had anticpated, but I would go back.

My friend put together a special evening - made reservations ahead of time - invited 30 people - so our being there was no surprise. The room wasn't ready when we arrived. Ok, that happens. They seated us in a room with such high ceilings, that the noise was awful. I literally could not talk to the person across the table from me. They set up the tables in such a way, that you couldn't move to mingle. Horrible seating. I'm not sure why a restaurant would only have one server for a party of 30 - but they did. We arrived at 6 pm, got drinks by 7:00 pm. Then since we all wanted to order, I talked with the server (hard working guy) and he said he was still working on taking the drink orders. And they he would take dinner orders as soon as he was done taking drink order. So, we told everyone in our party to STOP ordering drinks, so we could give them our food orders. We finally all ordered. Most people were being served by about 8:00 pm. My dish had gone to the wrong person at the table, so they had to remake my dish I was served at 9:00 pm. Interesting how many of the sun dried tomatoes were frozen. Yes, frozen. I'm not sure why, but when the food was being served - one of the other dinners told me that her pizza was cold, and they eat it as soon as it arrived - all of a sudden a person with pepper and grated cheese showed up. And another women showed up to clear dishes. I'm just wondering where this staff was while we were trying to order... I talked with another friend who had also had a group event at this location, and she had the same experience. If you are looking for a place to have a group, of more than say, 4. Don't come to this restaurant. I'm sorry to say this, and I eat out a lot, I would never come to this restaurant to eat, again, and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Whoa Ambrosia has kicked it up about ten notches since I was last here. Great food, great service and I love the new look / logo etc. Five stars, and I'll be back!

I used to love this place but sadly it has gone a lil south as of late. We had a very spendy lunch here that was a 13 dollar tiny dish of lasagne with no other sides and was literally 4 bites of food. I like the food but I left not just hungry but still starving. I like the ambiance but things are looking very worn lately and it could use some TLC. The price does not justify what you get even for the most gourmet place on earth!

One word to describe this place: OVERRATED! My experience here was pleasant, but nothing worth going out of your way to dine. We were first told that a table for two would be a 15-min wait, but it ended being a lil over 45 min. They blamed it on the lack of servers, but that doesn't excuse the fact that you suck at estimating time. When we finally got seated, our server was awkward and there were a lot of little things that bothered me, but not worth mentioning. The food (the bread, the pastas, the drinks) was just OK, it definitely didn't impress me one bit. Next time I want to eat around the area, I'm seriously going to go across the street. I won't be choosing to ear here in the future.

Ambrosia has been in Eugene longer than I have, I believe, and I've been here since '83 and I have always enjoyed my dinners there. I am somewhat surprised by the the one and two star reviews, and the bad service or unwillingness to correct a bad dish just doesn't seem to flow with my experiences. Having been thinking of Italian food for a couple days, my wife and I decided Ambrosia would be our destination after hiking Silver Falls! Eugene is definitely a town where dress code does not really seam to matter to most folks, and we were dusty and certainly not dressed for a special occasion, however, we were greeted and seated with in minutes of arriving. Our server, Kyle, gave us a few minutes to peruse the menu then asked if he could share the specials. He gave us detailed information on the various specials, one of which was a seafood fettuccine which sparked my interest. Now here is the reason for FIVE STARS: I asked if they would be willing to modify it and make it with Cajun spices. The response came back, "how spicy would you like it?" We then went on to discuss some wine ideas and once again Kyle was very knowledgeable on the wines. It seems these days, more often than not, the servers do not know diddly about their wines. We followed Kyle's recommendation and it was excellent, paring well with both my wife's FRESH halibut and my fettuccine. Everyone we had contact with was very pleasant, and even though we were served quicker than expected, it was not to busy. The chef's at Ambrosia are not turning out a Whopper of chicken fingers, the food is serious so maybe you have to wait a bit and if you do, I think you will find it worth the time and effort. Hat's off to a stellar dinner.

Sorry to say but this place is a disappointment. $20 meals should be cooked properly. (overdone pasta, way underdone eggplant) Ravioli should be homemade, not frozen. Blue cheese dressing had the consistency of watery bird doo. Wine tasted like it had been left out a few days too many. The server was fine, seemed to have the profession down, but was robot-like. The hostess had bad customer service skills. Otherwise, the ambiance was nice!

This was our first visit here in years, because we received a Groupon for Ambrosia as a gift. Overall it was a pleasant and tasty dinner. We were seated promptly and the host poured water for us. We then waited a little too long for a server to appear and take an order. He had been there only a week, he said, and didn't know he had a table. So now the food. To begin with we split a small Caesar salad, which was good and plenty for two, and the olive appetizer, which was different, being a small bowl of olives "roasted," i.e., served hot with some herbs. I found the olives just a bit too salty tasting in this presentation. There was also some good bread, albeit cold, with the ubiquitous olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip. A plus was a nice pile of minced garlic next to the olive oil. I still prefer butter on my bread, and I'm sure it would have been provided if I had asked, but I didn't bother. We then waited just a tad too long for our dinners to appear. My wife had the chicken fettuccine Davide, which I thought was a bit bland, but which she enjoyed very much. It was quite a large serving, with enough for her to share with me and still take some home. I had the lobster ravioli, which I found delicious (I would be interested in other pasta options using the same sauce), although the portion was about half the size of my wife's fettuccine. Another two or three raviolis in the dish would have left me feeling more satisfied with my serving. We had a little more left on our Groupon so we wanted to ordered dessert. We again waited too long for our server to reappear and take a dessert and coffee order and then a bit of wait again for the coffee and dessert to appear. The coffee was good and my wife's chocolate torte was delicious. My Crème Brule was very good, but not enough sugar had been flamed and melted, so there was only a paper thin "crust" on the top, not the nice, crackling top of a perfect Crème Brule. Another little wait for our check and for the server to return with the receipt to be signed. The Groupon was cheerfully accepted and handled correctly. So the only real negative about it all was the slow and absent server. We believe this was a management rather than server issue, because it appeared he had far too many tables to cover, and, though we can't be sure, tables both upstairs and downstairs. All through the meal the bus people were very attentive, keeping water glasses full, used dishes cleared, etc. It was the actual meal service that was lacking, but not, as I said, at the fault of the server, but of a management which was overworking him. The server was very personable, helpful and friendly when present. In any case, the slowness was not enough to ruin the meal, although it might have been a problem if we had been headed for a show that evening as others around us clearly were. We felt we got good value for the gift that had been given us and had a very nice evening. One other note, the trek to the upstairs seating area is a pretty good flight of stairs, something older diners like us note and which might be annoying to some. In regard to the menu, there are not really any simple meat or fish entrees, but these were offered in specials (grilled salmon or a filet mignon) that were a bit pricier than any of the entrees on the menu. We were happy with our pasta. We may be back for another special occasion.

I wanted to love this place, I REALLY did, but unfortunately, we weren't given then chance. We went in on a busy Friday night. We were told the wait would be 5 minutes. I am not opposed to waiting at all, but 20 minutes later, we were still sitting there and a party of 2 as well as another party of 4, all of which came in after us, had been seated. My husband went up there and the hostess was nothing short of rude telling us we would be seated next with quite the hotty totty attitude.. I will wait for good food, but don't tell me 5 minutes when it's really over 20 minutes then act like we are bothering you! She spent more time playing with her hair than she did "hostessing". We left and went to Beppe and Gianni's. Go there, the people at Ambrosia are rude!

Nice looking place. The menu offers great promise (though "fine dining" and "pizza" is an odd combo). I've eaten there a few times, the experience has ranged from OK to truly awful. "Truly awful" was waiting (I'm not kidding) two hours for our meal and then getting burned food. Pointed that out to the waiter, she apologized and offered us free coffee. Free coffee?!?!?!? C'mon, Denny's does better than that. We dropped $150 for three people's dinner, it sucked, and you offered us a 50 cent cup of coffee....should have comped the entire meal. Is there ANY good food in Eugene? Maybe I'm a big city snob, but really, is there?

Tonight was suppose to be a Birthday dinner for my wife. We visit Ambrosia about twice a year and the service and food Was always top notch. But something has changed. Last year the owner or manager said they always have the filet minion and proceeded to explain the meat coming from Rattlesnake ranch, etc. Melts in your mouth. Tonight I was told that the specials always change? (been getting the filets for years) So I ordered the scallops and my wife the lamb. We received very under cooked vegetables and my spaghetti was like cheap pasta no seasoning nothing. And then the scallops - what a waste of some very nice scallop meats. No flavor and the sauce was non existent. I could not eat any of it and had it returned. The 2 saving graces was the chef agreeing with me and the lamb was very good. It had just the right amount of mint to have it linger gently after each bite. And I can not blame the waiter - why else would I tip 25%. But for me, not being charged for the meal that I could not eat, was not offer enough to warrant a return. So sadly, along with our numerous recommendations for this place, we will not be returning. Sad

I give Ambrosia 4 stars because I've only been once and want an excuse to go a second time and confirm its holiness. The atmosphere is great, they have about a million different types of wine, and the food is both delectable and reasonably priced. The menu is Italian. You know, pasta, calzones, pizza, and fair share of seafood. I ordered Halibut that was seared and served over pasta with sauteed vegetables on the side. Makes me hungry even thinking about it again. If you live in Eugene and haven't been here yet, go already! If you are just passing through Eugene and want a nice place to pick up pasta, or just grab a glass of wine, I can't suggest a more centrally located and aesthetically pleasing venue.

Having had consistently excellent food and service at Ambrosia's since 1997, I can't believe I always forget it's there: It is an odd location, squeezed between the Greyhound station and seedy bars, and the business area that shuts down at 5PM ... but it's also the one great choice in this area, in the early dinner hours. The fifth star is because the atmosphere and service make it such a welcoming place, regardless of the time of day, the budget, or what you're wearing when you walk in. I've been here in heels as part of a company holiday party, and in dusty sweaty jeans & ballcap after a nasty day of travel, and never feel out of place or am made to feel out of place by differences in service. Here, the Eugene "we'll take you as you are" thing really shines. I've not only never had a bad meal at Ambrosia's, but have never had a meal that didn't make me go "WOW" ... whether it's spending under $10 per person on calzones, salads, or happy hour lasagna ... or spending above $30 per person for a seafood specialty with wine and dessert. The ambience is unique and delightful, with mixed-up antique tables and chairs, warm lighting, and classy jazz music. Loud, raucous parties can be had in their rooms for big groups, without the intimately chatting couple in the front even knowing a party room exists. The wait staff understands service, and a friend and I were shocked to have a server remember what we drank on our second visit, 2 months after our first visit. Small things like offering freshly ground parmesean, yet grating it into a little cup (so you can dose your own, and not have somebody leaning over people awkwardly), or asking "do you want me to take your plate" instead of "are you finished" do not go unnoticed.

Waiter - mike N. great service & very personable last night as we dinned early around 5pm. Sat upstairs overlooking the bar. Not the most up to date decor or menu, but good enough for hungry travelers. Surprised the bill came in at $83 but the items we ordered totaled correctly. Would likely not return for the price. Halibut special was $28; Scampi $20; beet salad $10; crab mushrooms $11; local wine glass $8.50; beer on tap $4. Ended up being our most expensive meal in an 8day trip.

I love the ambiance of this restaurant. Located in downtown Eugene- you find yourself entering a very classy and hip establishment. Two levels of seating- my favorite being upstairs or up at the front of the restaurant- where you overlook Broadway St. Italian cuisine is what you'll find on Ambrosia's menu. Ambrosia offers a very social atmosphere and is definitely a great place to gather and celebrate with friends over dinner and drinks. Dinner plates range between $13-30. Drinks are standard. They also offer a lunch menu. When your done with dinner- you can always walk to one of the dance clubs nearby- nothing too fabulous- but a fun night with friends in Eugene.

Italian not really, let's just say not classic, good though. Sea food pasta was good. Grilled tuna was ok, over cooked and a bit dry. Sides were meager and uninspiring. Overall meal was fine, but kind of pricy for what you get, which is nothing special. Extra star for the location, easy parking and really fun interior.

Great restaurant. Simple, good, great menu selection. Service is good, atmosphere is nice and quiet. One of Eugene's only nicer restaurants next to Adam's place which has now been downgraded to Adam's Sustainable Table and the fancy aspect has been taken away, leaving Ambrosia at 5 stars. Had almost everything on the menu and am not disappointed with anything.

I went Friday night 9/10/10 with friends for a birthday. The service was poor. There was stuff floating in our fresh water. They changed it out 4 times. After the first time you would think you would look before setting it on the table. After having it changed the 3rd time most of the table opted out. The food was just ok but everything else was sub standard. When the bill came. There was 5 couples and the woman couldnt figure out how to seperate our credit cards. Charged us for the same thing a few times. It was a nightmare. Wont be back.

Ambrosia is Eugene's best restaurant. I have had everything on the menu, and nothing will let you down. As an experienced Eugene restaurant-goer, I found myself enjoying a tasty meal here 2-3 times per week. It is comfort food at a good price.

I had my first "official" drink here when I turned 21, so I have a fond memory of the place in that respect. It proved to be a wise choice. They have house infused vodka's that are pretty tasty. They also have quite a good wine list. I would recommend the place for some classy drinking. Their food is just ok though, so go get drunk.

We came to this restaurant with some friends from California and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The waiter we had was excellent! They have an excellent wine list - we tried at least 6 of them! The only reason it didn't get 5 stars in my opinion is that the food didn't blow me away. It was great, but for the price I was expecting amazing. But it is a beautiful setting and I would recommend to anyone.

Great Italian food and reasonably priced in my opinion. The atmosphere was nice and quiet. The service was fast. My husband had pork with plum sauce and it was really good. I wish I would've ordered that instead --even though mine was really good as well.

The setting is great: cool old downtown building (and there aren't many of those left in Eugene--better get there while you can!) , exposed brick, grand old bar. I always get annoyed first, because you never--and I mean never--can walk in and just get seated, even if there is no one else there. I've watched, and it's true. It's like some badge of honor--or strain of sadism-- that they can keep you sitting there on the hard benches, even when there is no evident reason for the delay. Service is often slow, and less than enthusiastic. (Actually, the one time I got stellar service was when Zenon would not honor my call ahead for a late evening group a few years ago. I told the host at Ambrosia how hacked off I was over it, and they took us in, seated us immediately, and treated us like royalty. Badmouth Zenon if you want a better than average Ambrosia experience.) Then there's the flatwear. Something in me resists when I order a $26 entree and am expected to eat it with a fork that feels like the flimsy stuff I ate with in my junior high cafeteria. The pizza's pretty good, and there is some kind of incongruous Thai shrimp salad on the lunch menu that I have enjoyed, but more often than not the seafood dinner special is some utterly tasteless halibut dish or other, and they're not giving it away.

I ate supper here the other evening - lobster ravioli, Caesar salad, and a toffee carmel pudding cake for dessert. Tonight I'm having the Four Seasons pizza and Caesar salad as take out. The pizza consisted of two slices each of artichoke hearts, mushrooms, pepperoni, and prosciutto. This was delicious with ample ingredients on each slice, which was small in size. Tonight's Caesar salad had large pieces of romaine lettuce, which were awkward to eat because I didn't have a knife with which to cut them into smaller pieces. I'll write now of the previous supper, which I ate at the restaurant, sitting outside. The lobster ravioli was bland, and I thought the pasta encasing the lobster was thicker than it needed to be. There could have been more lobster, too. All in all, I wouldn't order it again. The Caesar salad was delicious - bite-sized pieces of crisp lettuce tossed with dressing and cheese and croutons. The dessert was an interesting choice to offer as it's English in origin amid Italian cuisine. The toffee imparted an unusual flavor.

I loved my meal. That's honestly all I remember from my visit. It's like the girl's name you can't remember but you remember her having a nice swoon to her walk. Ya dig? That halibut... that sauce. What sauce you say? Lemon, dill, shallot, white wine sauce. Perfectly grilled halibut on a bed of greens and tasty risotto. Appetizer is fresh bread with garlic and olive oil. I loved my meal. That's really all I know. The layout was a little awkward, some tables really close, some 6 person tables next to 2 person tables, creates contravaling noise levels throughout the floor. I feel like having a more romantic and quiet section for 2-4 people, and then some more loud tables in another section for groups is a better option. Staff was good, you can always tell when the staff really loves food and cooking because our server definitely didn't play the halibut and that sauce up to what it should be. Saying "it's popular and I like it" doesn't do justice to a wonderful dish.

Food took way too long. Pear salad ok, tasty. Froze my a__ off waiting for a calzone. It has been an hour and a half and we have not had it served to us. Finally! We got our calzone, almost two hours. Waiter was embarrassed and said it was on him. Good thing. We ordered the chicken pesto calzone and we got a cheese and some mushrooms No chicken and the crust was not cooked. The best thing in the restaurant was our waiter Eric. Somebody please steal him..

I joined 16 family members for a pre-wedding party - we were rambunctious and loud (think Italians who hadn't seen each other in awhile). We were given the upstairs table and were served so graciously with such good food, that Ambrosia gets high marks in my book! The next time I'm in Eugene, I'll go back for a normal eating experience, and know I'll really enjoy it! Thank you Ambrosia!

I've lived in Eugene just over a year, and I'm sad I've never been here before. I spent two years stationed in Alaska and I'm always hesitant about ordering fish after catching it myself and having it same day, I was wrong. I got the halibut covered in a blackberry sauce with rice and veggies and holy shit was it delicious. Comboed with a glass of Sailor Jerry I'll certainly be coming back!!!

Just showed up at 8:45 on a Wednesday and was told they were closed even though they are all in there "working" with people sitting outside eating. Maybe you shouldn't say you're open until 9pm if you're a liar?

I must admit, prior to this year I thought that Ambrosia had all but disappeared off the map. To me Ambrosia seemed antiquated, dusty, but I decided to give it another go one day with a friend of mine. You must give it to whoever decorated the place because the whole dramatic velvet drapery, and fringed lampshades really do lend to the mysterious ways this restaurant moves. The employees are the ones who really changed my view of this place. Their familiarity and genuine connections with their patrons are a rarity in any restaurant business, much less one that's seems to be struggling with relevancy. My favorite place in most establishments, is the bar. You really get to know the restaurant by the bar, I feel. You hear, feel, and see all the goings on of the restaurant from that one high seat at the bar. I always sit at the bar at Ambrosia, I chat with the bartenders, servers while eating a pound of clams, shallots, garlic and herbs in a white wine butter sauce, sipping on a cloud nine as I take in the going on's of the night. Here's my advice: come in with an open mind, listen and taste with all five senses and enjoy yourself at Ambrosia.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
